20 Best Wood For Painted Cabinets (2023 Updated)

I got two of these pantries. They arrived well packaged and without any damage or defects. All the parts were well labeled and assembly was very straightforward and easy. I took off one star because it’s listed as being a “cherry” finish, but it’s much more like a honey finish in my opinion – not really reddish, like I would expect of a true cherry finish.

I actually prefer a cherry finish and don’t care for a honey finish, so this was somewhat disappointing, but otherwise, the pantries are just what I was looking for.

Awesome for the price! It went together very well and looks beautiful. It’s a nice size, but not too big and doesn’t take up too much floor real estate. My only complaint is that they put sticky labels on the backboard of the cabinet that are extremely difficult to peel off and peel off the finish when you attempt to remove them.

It’s very visible in the cabinet, but will be easily touched up with some white paint. Other than that, I love this piece. Great deal!.

This buffet was easy to assemble and it looks good and sturdy. My only complaint is that one of the handles, on one end, did not have the inside ridges for the screw to secure into. It’s just a hollow hole inside the handle so it does absolutely nothing for the screw – can’t tighten it.

It’s loose. I tried pouring superglue to the inside of the screw hole, but it didn’t help much.

It took a little time to put together, but it’s a solid once its set up. I’m getting a lot of compliments on it, too! I wish it were a little deeper, maybe a little taller. But it definitely fits my needs and is a very useful piece- for storage as well as display items.

I’m very happy with this choice- not only as a buffet, but also how it fits in the room and works with other furniture.

It arrives in 2 boxes. There are a lot of pieces, but they are all clearly marked and the instructions were easy to follow. It takes a while to assemble just because of the size of the cabinet, but it was not difficult to assemble and it is very sturdy.

Love the clean look of it. Nice quality for the price. Highly recommend.

Overall satisfied despite small perfections. Like others said, took several hours to ensemble, even for two people. It’s not super complicated but just a lot of steps. Need to pay attention to detail such as orientation of parts and we’ve made some mistakes.

The glass doors are not very good quality.

Pretty difficult to put together (I’d definitely say 2 people are needed) but it turned out perfect for my space. Some pieces (like the knobs on the doors) are a little cheap looking for such an expensive piece, but I liked the a lot of the pieces had an almost countertop-like feel, pretty sturdy.

The cabinets look great! Exactly like the picture, and it fit perfectly in the space where I wanted it. The only thing keeping me from giving a five-star rating is that one of the cabinets smelled strongly of turpentine when I opened the package.

The smell did dissipate after a couple of days, but it was very off-putting at first. The other cabinet had a slight turpentine smell, but not nearly as strong as the other one.

I love it! But I originally purchased this with hopes that it would be ready for the holidays. When it arrived before Christmas i was so happy. until i got home where I found my husband fighting to put it together as a surprise for me.

When I asked if I could help, he shooed me away. Next thing I heard was the door opening and the unit being thrown our our side door into the trash. Yup, I was upset! After a huge fight, i emailed Wayfair’s customer service through Walmart.

They were awesome and immediately checked inventory and arranged to send me out a new one. I am happy to say that the hubby and I put it together today and it is exactly what I wanted. and it was much easier with two people.

these are exactly what I wanted. the doors are glass like. easy close. gorgeous. my contractor complimented me on them saying they were well made and easy to install. I bought 4 to complete an upper cabinet wall and I got them on sale.

I am so glad I did. they look beautiful!.

Appearance was great. Quality was okay. Equivalent to what you would expect for the price point. We used this in a “she shed” and it was just right for that application

We love our new cabinets! We replaced 50 year old cabinets in our cottage – Very well made and Rachel was such a pleasure to work with. Hubby installed himself. The photo is a pic of the upper cabinets only.

We didn’t realize we were getting soft-close doors & drawers – bonus! We have since installed the bottom cabinets. Amazing quality!.

Very disappointed that the sides of this piece were not wood but something better than cardboard! Also the front door joins are roughly cut. The shelves had imperfections as well. My piece in addition had a sliver of the wood ready to chip off.

It could have been a very beautiful piece even if it cost a little more!.

The front and rear of the cabinet are fairly sturdy, but the side walls are made of 1/8 inch flexible material, which you side into grooves. The bottom shelf is made of the same material, and installed the same way.

I would be wary of putting anything that’s not very light on it. The other 2 shelves are OK. I don’t understand why they didn’t include a third sturdy shelf. (I might move one of the 2 shelves to the bottom.

) I paid close to $100 for the cabinet. Based on the above, I think it’s only worth half of what I paid. Additionally, when I opened the box, the items had a smell of paint. Most of the smell is gone, now.

On the plus side, it was easy yo put together.

The only big problem with the cabinet is that one of the front doors sags about 1/4 inch lower than the other door. It is very noticeable, since I put the cab. in a prominent place. The doors aren’t adjustable (the front piece comes assembled, and the hinges for the doors are INSIDE the permanently fixed cross boards on the front.

There is some gapping in places around the cabinet where cross boards meet panels, but it’s not very noticeable and would be easy to calk/wood fill if it bothers someone. It took me about 2 hours to put it together by myself, but I’m slow with such things.

All the parts were there, and the predrilled holes matched (warning: it seemed at first that a couple of the holes didn’t line up so that the screws wouldn’t go in straight, but I kept putting the screws in several times until finally the screw went in straight.

) I was impressed with the packaging, the fact that all the pieces were there and organized in little bags, and there were excellent picture instructions. It is a sturdy cabinet and quite attractive.

The doors close to magnets, and they work very well. The white paint is even, though I plan to paint it another color. I should’ve taken the advice of other posters & gotten something else for the prominent place I have put this in, because of the front doors not lining up.

It’s too much hassle to return it, so I’ll get something else for the prominent place, and move this to an out of the way place for storage. But it seems most reviewers got cabinets where the front doors line up, so maybe I was just unlucky.

It’s a sturdy, great value, and an attractive cabinet, though, for the storage space you get, esp. for the price. I’m not upset about the doors, because I’ll get a lot of good use out of it for years.

It’s only about 1/4 inch difference, so in an out of the way place, wouldn’t be noticeable. I am going to try to prop up that door, though.

I needed two pieces of walnut for a clock project. I usually don’t order my wood online but it’s a 90 minute round trip to my nearest Rockler store. I received my shipment while I was recovering from Covid and yesterday, when I finally got to open my package, one piece of walnut is a beautiful brown.

Just like you would want it. The other piece is almost white. and not in just a few places. The entire board, front, back and sides are all that color. Needless to say, I can not use the second board for my clock project.

I can’t use it for anything except a project small enough to do with just that one board. I guess what really bothers me is the fact that I ordered this wood from a woodworker’s store. not a big box store.

One would think that someone there, in the shipping department would have seen the difference and corrected it. Note to self. never ever buy lumber online again.

I used two of these boards in combination with a maple core (also from Rockler) to accent the most recent big axe handle that I made for throwing. The boards glued up effortless and I’ve thrown the axe hundreds of times already with no problems.

It’s sturdy and the walnut looks great once you add some BLO to it.

I couldn’t buy lumber from my local hardwood dealer due to covid shutdowns, so I did the next best thing and ordered 2 4/4 boards from a reputable online dealer. Price was good, shipped incredibly quickly.

When I opened the box, I found one beautiful board that is full of worm holes and has a substantial dent in it. The 2nd board would be generous to say it was 5% heartwood. May as well have bought maple.

Both boards had slight bows, but acceptable. If this was listed as flawed or subpar and priced at a discount, I would be happy, at full price, however, I am very disappointed. Looks like subpar mothers day gifts this year.

Not exactly what I thought it was going to be it doesn’t pull out far enough and the hardware isn’t very sturdy. We were able to fix it for our needs but not good for next to a wall

Assembled ok but was tight. Have tried to adjust the pull out but it still takes more effort than it should

This accent piece is exactly what I was looking for as a colorful and decorative addition to my dining room. It is solid, and well built. I would have expected to pay more than what I did for the quality of this piece.

It arrived very quickly and needed no assembly whatsoever. I am more than happy with this purchase!.

I like the authenticity and reclaimed features of this item. I’m going to use it for storing my Art materials.

I used these in a dry bar in my man cave. It looks great and the cabinets are a good quality. I had a few issues with assembly. The first was instruction detail. I have used other DIY cabinet companies and the instruction detail was far superior.

I had to take a few things back apart again. Fortunately I did not know I was suppose to use glue when I discovered your online videos. The under cabinet wine glass rack came with no instructions and it took me awhile to figure out I had to remove a piece of wood to get it to fit.

The cabinet lights also had no instructions and evidently needed some clips that did not come. I called and was told about the clips but the ones that were sent were to big. I used 3 sided tape to mount but that interferes with the shelves which then had to be notched.

The drawer hardware had only 1†screws and were not long enough for the shaker drawers. I had to go to store and get some longer ones. The miscellaneous stuff came in a beat up box that had openings on the sides of the top.

I suspect that’s were the clips went. Just some feedback. I would definitely buy again.

Cabinets look great and are really sturdy. They slide together and then are screwed in the back. Some of the joints need cleaned out but no big deal. Shipping was horrible though. 19 cabinets came on a pallet on a semi truck.

The driver had no way to unload them off the truck and get them up to the house. Has to go to a dock and load them by hand into my truck to take them home and unload them in the garage. It was a nightmare to coordinate.

My husband and I are extremely pleased with the quality of these cabinets and the ease of putting them together! The whole process of designing and getting 3-D pictures of what it would look like was so easy and stress-free.

I knew ahead of time exactly what it would look like and my husband was able to use these plans as a placement guide when he installed them. Last, I ordered and received my cabinets in less than two weeks and they were well packed with no damage.

This has been an awesome experience!.

The unit looks great in the new “kitchenette” wall in my condo renovation. The staff was very courteous and helpful. My only complaint is about the lights. They’re not up to the expected quality, and no one had real knowledge about them.

Otherwise, I would have given 5 stars.

Beautiful! And, it came in a size that is surprisingly not commonly offered.

I was so excited to get this storage cabinet to finish off my dining area. It’s even more beautiful in person. Goes with my other walnut furniture. Great dining room storage. You do have to be careful as this wood can scratch easily.

I bought some of the walnut satin wax to use on this and our Hudson media cabinet. This was a great suggestion by the delivery crew.

This piece is beautiful but I have not been pleased with its durability thus far. I am on my 3rd delivery. The first two came damaged. The first piece came damaged after a shelf was “jostling around” during delivery, and the second piece came with damage on the outside of the piece of furniture.

Both of these pieces really should be arriving flawlessly; the price is over $2000 for this piece of furniture. The quality appears “mixed”. Again, if the quality were better I would be more happy with this gorgeous piece of furniture.

We ordered this during Covid and it came right after they started delivering again. Unfortunately, it was a mess. It should have never been sent out. The back had been bashed making a hole. The front was dented from the same accident I assume.

The hinges were a mess of stain and the finish was terrible. I’ve never seen such poor quality from Room & Board. But R&B service is outstanding, a new one was ordered and delivered last week. The quality is much better and it looks fabulous in our dining area.

I love the narrow width so it doesn’t take up so much room. Yet, this cabinet has ample storage for all my china and wine glasses. Love it.
