20 Best Wood For Outdoor Bench (2023 Updated)

I was so excited to get this. The condition was horrible. It looks like it was an old weathered used item that was put in a box. The wood is cracked and the color is not even in areas. It is NOT worth the price.

Exactly what i needed on my front porch. IT looks just as the description said it would, mine matched the picture perfectly. Easy to assemble, no special tools needed. Took me about 1/2 hour.

easy to put together but very uncomfortable, if the backs of chairs went back more it might feel better but sitting for more then 15 minuets your back starts hurting.

I had orderedtwo of these and they arrived yesterday. Takes a little while to assemble but once put together well worth it. Very stable and really looks good. I think these were a great value so I’ve just ordered two more!.

This bench is not only really good looking but it is a solid piece of outdoor furniture. I put Teak oil all over it. The oil not only made the beautiful grain of the wood stand out but it also made this piece really weather sturdy.

I could not be happier with this bench.

I absolutely love this bench! It’s a perfect replacement for my old rotting bench for my front porch. It’s sturdy and very well built. Put it together in about 10 minutes. I did give it a light sanding and painted it with Rust-Oleum Spar to keep it looking new and protect it from the sun and rain.

I love the way it looks and the simple elegant lines.

First let me say that Plow and Hearth gets 5 stars for customer service! I bought this bench for a shady area in our garden. The design is beautiful, the size is just right for two people to sit comfortably and the price is reasonable.

The bench was very easy to put together. Unfortunately the bench was poorly packaged and one arm was gouged by the metal clamp part on the bottom of the seat. There were also several areas on the bench where the finish was rough.

I could have returned the bench, but it was exactly what I wanted and Plow and Hearth would not have another in white until August. I decided that it was a good value for the price and I could repair the damage myself, so I kept it and thought that would be the end of it.

A few days later Plow and Hearth Customer service contacted me to say that they were refunding a portion of the purchase price. The refund was unexpected but greatly appreciated. I will certainly consider Plow and Hearth for purchases in the future.

I bought this bench because of the nifty foldable arms and seat and because I like the Arts and Crafts style. The bench was fairly easy to assemble, but a key piece did not line up with a pre-drilled hole.

I have to reverse my assembly efforts and jiggle the pieces around to make it work. Not all pieces are flush with each other as a result of the misalignment. Also, the bench arrived with a gouge in one front leg panel and paint drips throughout.

Clearly, it was packed that way. Eventually, I will sand those down and repaint. If there had been better quality control at the factory, I would have given this a higher rating. Buyer beware.

This is a great little bench. We looked at several different benches, but what kept us coming back to this particular bench, was the fact that it folded up, so that we could store it during the winter time.

None of the other benches that we looked at did this. It’s also very sturdy and big enough for 2 adults to sit on it comfortably. We have it sitting out in front of our shed, at the top of the driveway, and use the bench when were waiting for a ride, or I will sit on the bench if I just want to take a little break after being out in the yard for a few hours doing yard work.

I didn’t realize that you were able to upload pictures for your review, and I think that’s a very important part of a review. So I will come back, after I’ve taken a few photos and I’ll edit my review, provided Plow and Hearth will allow me to do that.

Bench overall is nice. But I was put off by its condition, if it were not for that, I would give it 4 to 5 stars. The end of one the boards on the seat isn’t stained,. Although everything seemed to be protected in packing materials, a couple of areas are chipped at the edges for about 2 inch by an eighth to quarter inch area.

And there is an area on the right arm piece that had an drill hole mistake right next to an intentional drill hole. Lastly, there was a misaligned drill hole. The problems seem to point to poor quality control checks prior to sending the product out.

I like the overall look of the bench, and Id rather deal with touching up the few issues than the hassle of sending it back. I am annoyed enough that I wouldnt buy it again.

This is a solidly built bench that can support big adults. It was carefully wrapped to prevent damage during shipment. We had one minor problem when assembling it because one precision drilled hole was slightly off.

However, we’d recommend it be used with a cushion. I.

I was so pleased with how easy this bench was to assemble. There is nothing complicated about its assembly or the instructions. I had thought that I would hire my handy person to do this but after opening the box, I decided to give it a try and I”m really pleased that I did.

Of course, those little temporary wrenches provided can do the job, but I used better tools. I had started with the wrenches provided and it was doable, it would just take a bit longer to assemble with all those short turns of the wrench.

I was really happy with the look of the bench, especially for the price, and when they call it a two seater bench, it”s a long two seater bench. I already own a two seater bench and things can get pretty cozy with the one I own.

Overall, I”m very happy with this purchase. Can”t wait to put it in my back yard.

My home is in the middle of 1. 25 acres of gardens with chickens, and when I saw this inexpensive bench, I had to try it! And it’s perfect! Fast shipping, easy to put together, and it’s strong enough to support a human with coffee AND a flock of fowl! The color is a nice grayish, worn color that fits in with nature, and I liked it so much that I ordered a second one! ‘Nuff said!.

So, houzz has asked that I review the bench again, and it’s very nice. I had planned to keep them both outside, but the first one is still on my porch, and it may stay there!.

This bench came packaged securely and was easily assembled without any difficulties. The bench looks exactly as pictured. It has a deep rich color. It’s not too heavy an easy to move or reposition. My husband an I sat on it an felt secure ( He wt 2301bs and my wt 165).

I used 3 outdoor chair pads with ties in the back to pad the seat area instead of a long expensive seat pad and this works beautifully for added seating comfort. We put our bench by the front door area with pots of flowering annuals on either side.

so inviting. Rain beads off the bench as is for now but as time passes I do plan to rub some tung oil on it to maintain the beautiful color an help protect the wood as it ages. I am very happy with this purchase!.

I wish I could give it 5 stars, it is beautiful and fits perfectly on our new redwood deck; however, as noted with other benches by this manufacturer, the screws did not fit with the pre-drilled holes.

They were so off in alignment, I could only fit five of the eight in place and had to place wood screws of my own into holes I had to drill to put the bench together. For this price, the hole alignment should be perfect all the time and I know it is not hard to make certain the quality control is there.

Also, the bench was not level (new deck definitely is) so had to put 1/4 inch risers on two legs to make it level. That should not be the case either.

Very nice item. 2 people needed for easy assembly. Sturdy bench looks good in the garden. Quick fold up to store. Very nice piece of furniture.

This is a good sturdy product. I bought unfinished because I wanted a certain color. I am very satisfied with the way the wood took my color. The bench supports are very basic but very sturdy, exactly what I wanted at a very reasonable price.

Gorgeous live edge bench. Completed our outdoor forest snow scene just perfectly! Very sturdy, great finish, big enough for a few people to sit at the same time. Would purchase again for sure.

Bought this bench for my grandson’s new home and he just loves it. It is study and can hold two people easily. He liked the cedar stain and can’t wait to put it in his yard overlooking the Shenandoah River.

It is solidly constructed and should last a long time.

LOVE. This is the second one I bought for my porch. And they look great together. More importantly I saved over $70 buying it from Walmart over Overstock so that makes me even happier.

I purchased this will the intent of using indoors as an additional loveseat-the glider made it just that much better. It is lovely to look at and because we live in a log cabin it’s a perfect fit. Dressed it up with some pillows and a quilt and it’s now the favorite to sit on when we have visitors-even the cats love to sit on it.

Very pleased with the purchase except, I think we were missing a page of the directions but if you are slightly clever it can be finished without them.

Beautiful bench. Lovely design, rolled ends add a lot. Perfect for extra seating indoors in the colder months and out on the patio for the summer months. I bought ours to put opposite another garden bench in a corner of our patio, for a little conversation area.

Ours is a five-footer. It seems a bit light for being hardwood, but it seems very well put together. Enjoy!.

This is a nice long bench. It was exactly the size we were looking for. The finish is a weathered looking gray. Some of the slats are starting to warp a little bit, but it’s minor and the bench lives outside all year round, rain and snow.

It is light and easy to move around.

Quality is so so for outdoor use and directions are horrible even tho it’s a simple bench assembly. Bench itself are missing holes so I had to pre drill holes. Very frustrating. The only reason I didn’t return it because it’s too much of a hassle to return at Walmart and my box for the bench was already destroyed.

Bought the bench and it arrived damaged. Poor paint job with numerous scratches, drips and pieces flaking off. One leg had a one inch long hole in it. I spoke to customer service and they were great.

Hence the one star. They sent a replacement right away and to our disappointment the second one was just as bad with chipping and cracked areas of paint. Have to return it. Since these benches are built in Vietnam the quality control is obviously not there.

Anyway, will not purchase again and will look elsewhere for a bench. I am really disappointed. I thought this company would produce a better product!!!.

Honestly, i was a little worried when ordering that it would be a bit flimsy. I thought that because of the length with no center support it wouldn’t be very strong. I was wrong! This bench is heavy duty! Easy to put together and very solidly built.

We have this in our mud room, so it’s used a lot for putting boots on.

Mid-weight, easy to assemble bench. Have an existing identical bench which has survived the elements for twenty years, or more. Hopefully new purchase will be as durable.

Received bench which was a nice design but poor quality some unsightly joins in the back of the bench and marks elsewhere also some areas with not as much paint on as other areas. Decided to keep as I received a discount and will rub down and repaint.

Quality look about it. Lovely detail, and so easy to assemble. Just 4 parts and 6 screws. No need for hubby’s help, much to his relief!

It took me and one other person only about ten minutes to set up this bench. It comes with extra screws and Allen wrenches and was painless. The bench feels very sturdy and well-crafted and is a great value for the money! One thing I will say is that if you’re looking for an environmentally-conscious purchase, this product isn’t for you.

The wood used in the bench isn’t Forest Stewardship Council Certified, nor is it even clear which country the wood is sourced from (the bench itself is made in Vietnam). Also, the packaging comes with a TON of totally unnecessary and unrecyclable plastic.

If Christopher Knight used FSC certified wood and ditched all the plastic, it would for sure be five stars from me.

I bought the blue bench and within a couple of months it started chipping. I took a picture and Target would not replace or credit because there is only a 90-day warranty. I asked for credit to cover cost of paint and primer so I could repair and they wouldn’t do it.

It is a sturdy bench, but the finish is terrible and doesn’t last. It was very expensive and I am extremely disappointed. Don’t buy this.
