20 Best Wood For Knife Throwing (2023 Updated)

The image does not do this justice. The live edges are amazing. Its perfect for what I needed it for ( building a floating end table in my small home) back to the edges. they are real bark. it was even flaking a bit upon removable from the extra tight plastic packaging lol very real.

My husband will love it which is great because it may distract him from my inexperienced carpentry skills Ha! great piece. Great price. Very happy customer.

Great bargain, very large amount of useable assorted pieces. Perfect for quick prototype modeling or many other creative uses. Good way to buy balsa. Nice to have all these different sizes.

The wood was a good quality. Pieces were smaller than I anticipated so I had to lay them aside and use them for a different project. Delivery took awhile but when they arrived, all pieces were packed very securely with no damage.

I purchased this blade for my Bosch Axial Glide miter saw and it works great. This blade is far superior to the blade that came with my Bosch. The Bosch blade worked alright but has more tearout on most boards.

This Freud LU91R012 is designed for cross cutting and you can see the difference in the quality of the cut. This blade is perfect for miter saws and radial arm saws where cross cutting is the purpose.

After more than a year this blade is still going strong in my hobby woodshop. I will definately purchase more Freud blades.

Five stars for these blades. I use these blades to cut partially green lumber down to more usable lengths before air drying. Fine water mist helps keep blades clean. Best blades we have used. Roger M.

i’M REDOING A JUNK DOLLHOUSE i PICKED UP THAT’S PUT TOGETHER WRONG & MISSING EVERYTHING. buying the wood pieces in the local craft stores was getting really Expensive. Buying through Dick BLick was cheaper by far & balsa is much easier to work with.

Chip carving with the Basswood blocks will give them a good start to learning to carve. It’s easy with the straight grain basswood and the results are satisfying. I can’t wait to see what they come up with.

They’re small pieces, so storing them is easy. Largest pieces are about 4″x1″x1. 5″. Basswood takes more effort to work than balsa but holds detail without as much splintering which is a worthy tradeoff in my opinion.

I turned the block on its side, drilled a small hole in the middle, painted it, decorated it with inspirational or religious sayings, glued a cardholder pick in the hole then Mod Podged it.

Turned out great and all of my friends\ family members loved them! I must have made at least 18 of them and they all went fast!.

First off, my family and I love this game. It’s fun for all of us, even it if does require a bit more reminding for the kids to stay behind of the throwing line when we are throwing (I guess that’s a good introduction to bow safety, ha).

The stars and axes are light enough for kids to use–even our two-year-old was having a ball. The older kids enjoyed it, and we adults had a lot of fun, also! The only real downside to this is, it’s not quite as sturdy as we think it needs to be.

It’s not exactly a “gentle” play toy, so we figured it would be a bit more hearty–there have already been a bristle (I don’t know what else to call it. peg?) knocked out from the target, and the foam on some of the axes and stars is already lifting or holding indentions or warps.

As fat as set up, it’s pretty simple and straight forward. Not a ton of pieces and the instructions make it clear. But, while simple, setting it up and taking it down can become a drag if you don’t have somewhere to store it that would allow you to leave it up.

not a huge issue, but if there was a way to have telescoping legs or something, it would be a lot more efficient for families like us who use it often, but don’t really have a place to keep it set up.

All in all, it is and will still be great for family fun, but I’d recommend a stronger version if your primary participants will be adults.

Quarantine has been rough on our family. We’re typically pretty active, but have been trying to avoid public places. There’s only so many activities you can do at home without getting bored. This axe & throwing star target set has completely changed the game for us.

It’s so much fun!!!! It was pretty easy to put together. I did have a bit of trouble with the bottom connectors in the back and the instructions didn’t really help me there. Once we got over that hurdle, it was game on.

I have a pretty competitive family and this is perfect for us. Even though it seems like it’s just a fun game, it’s also a great way to get a little physical fitness squeezed into your day. It’s a super fun way to get some sunshine outside, but can also be played indoors.

We set it up at the end of the hallway one night when it was raining. We played it outside when my mom came over for a visit and she’s planning on giving this set as a Christmas gift to two different families.

She’s in her fifties and had an absolute blast with it. If you’re looking for a way to have a tremendous amount of fun at home, you will not regret buying this.

This is such a fun game! We have lots of family parties because I have a large family, we love having game stations set up. This is the perfect addition to that. The axes/stars stick in the bristles perfectly.

Everything is save as it is all plastic but the plastic is very durable! I think we will have tons of fun with this at all of our summer parties. Fun that the entire family can join in on. Such a great game!.

I thought this wood would be a softer wood. It was advertised as a wood carving wood.

We gave this to my son for his birthday and he loved it! The idea is great and I love that it gets kids outside trying something new. The plastic axes and stars have rounded edges and are safe to use.

The only thing I think needs to be improved is the target. The pieces that make up the target (what the axes and stars land on and stick to) break really easily. I’m nervous that after a few weeks of use most of the target will be gone leaving nothing to catch the axes and stars.

There was just a touch more wear than described by the seller, but not so much that I would dun him. Mention it only to help all of us remember to have realistic expectations buying sight unseen online.

Twenty-two slots may seem like a lot, but I’ve already filled up all but one with quality knives that I like, and I don’t have anything out of the ordinary. Ten-, eight-, and six-inch chefs’ knives, for instance, and seven- and five-inch santokus.

Etc. I’m not sure I could make use of more, or do with less.

The block says made in China and the knives i purchased in the “set” fit the slots poorly. This is a generic block not specifically made for the Wustoff knives i purchased. I love the knives but considering the price of this supposed set (as the block was supposed to be the 17th piece) i am very disappointed and would have expected a block actually made for the quality knives.

Shame on Crate and Barrel for passing it off as a set. I would not have purchased it that way had i known the block was made in china and not specific to wustoff.

I purchased this set to replace my Wustof knife set that is 30 years old. My old block was looking tattered and old, the handles of the knives had lot their luster, the scissors had broken over a decade ago and throughout the years, we had misplaced a couple of the knives.

So I thought I would just replace the entire set with a new one. I ended up returning it. The block was lovely. The knives, however, felt cheap and the handles felt like plastic. Compared to the set I purchased over 30 years ago (also from Crate and Barrel) , this new set paled in comparison.

Really puts meaning to the phrase “they don’t make things like they used to. ”.

Handle is very comfortable, the blade has a beautiful damascus pattern and is extremely sharp. I can’t speak on edge retention because I haven’t used it enough yet, but SG2 steel is supposed to have some of the best edge retention out there.

These knives are japanese style, so they are sharper than western knives, but have thinner steel, so they are a bit more fragile. If you handle them with care they will treat you well. I just wish miyabi sold more products for caring for the wood handle.

Birchwood is a great handle wood but it stains easily and needs to be treated to avoid absorbing food liquids. A good cutting board oil or wax goes a long way in making these types of knife last longer.

I’ve had well made, sharp knives for decades. Or at least I thought I had until I stated using my new Miyabi knife set. The craftmenship, strength and sharpness of these knives are outstanding. The handles make them easy to grip and the balanced weight make using them feel natural.

And the sharpness! Wow! You won’t be disappointed with these knives. (Note: One of the plugs that covers the rivet in the handle popped out of one knife. But it’s still functioning properly. ).

Not only is this knife set gorgeous, it’s functional, durable and by far the sharpest I’ve ever used. And the Rocking Santoku is fantastic and so easy to use – it’s as if it’s doing the job without me.

I highly recommend this knife set. It will not disappoint.

Been using for 2 months, it is as fast as korbel but lighter and smaller plate. Great control, a bit more crisp feeling and bit harder than korbel due to koto outer layer. The ST handle is comfortable for my big hand, but I would have preferred a little bit bigger.

The blade gives great feeling on all strokes, is reasonably fast for attackersif you feel outer alc blades with koto are too fast then the hadraw vk would be a great alternative. I use it with Donic pro am 2.

0 on fh and Donic M2 2. 0 on bh: great combo for power spin and control.

Bought this for my husbands birthday as he loves to cook. Very impressed. Knives are excellent quality and the stay sharp holder keeps them sharp. Got his name engraved on this item and it is actually deeply carved into the wooden block, not just in a plaque.

Superb craftsmanship, I would highly recommend.

The ordering process was nice and easy, the item was sent tracked and arrived earlier than expected. There was a minor blemish on one of the knives, Farrar and Tanner couldn’t do enough to rectify the issue.

They offered to replace the whole set but I opted to just have the one knife replaced. The replacement knife was sent and received with no issues, the problem knife was returned and I was kept updated through the whole process.

I am now the proud owner of a cracking set of knives.

We bought these to match our farmhouse kitchen and they fit in perfectly. High-quality knives and block. The block has a nice rich wood look which was perfect for our kitchen. They have actually attracted a few comments on how good they look and people are surprised at the price.

This is not Blick’s fault as I’m sure Midwest Products packaged the wood. Within the 5 pack, the outer boards look great. Open it up and sandwiched in between are boards that are very notty- LOOK AT THE PICTURE.

I cannot imagine that this is an unintentional mistake.

Midwest has always sold quality wood for the modeler to use. I actually sold there products in my Hobby Shop until I retired in 2013. Someone complained about the labels but Midwest has done this on their sheet wood ever since we first purchased from them (actually from distributors).

Not difficult to work around. I cut length from the opposite end or the label can go on the hidden side of the project.

Bought 2 in March, 2021 – 1 w/ Ladies Flex for my wife, 1 Senior Flex for me. Both 9. 5 Degree, both of us found the Titleist True Fit Hosel Setting Adjustment set at C worked the best for us – controls your trajectory and distance.

Really nice feature. Right out of the box I hit mine 230 yards direct center of fairway the first 2 holes, some other ahh shots, and a great round. We are both extremely pleased. A welcomed club to our bags.

Nice trademark center spot on Titleist Face, great feel @ swing, and @ contact with the ball. We highly recommend this club!.

Have played a few rounds with the TSR2 now, and have been extremely happy after switching from the G425 Max. Dispersion has been fantastic, and it’s definitely longer off the tee. I would recommend going through a fitting to find the right head and shaft for you.

Overall I would definitely recommend this club.

The TS2 has a large stable head. Generous sweet spot. Looks great whit a classic shape and in black. You feel as if you know where the ball is going off the face. Evenflow shaft is a little heavy. Too stiff for me.

Changed shafts.

I absolutely LOVE the Schacht Boat shuttles, especially the really big ones. The larger ones will hold an entire dish towel’s worth of weft on it without having to change over to another bobbin in the middle of the towel.

These shuttles are smooth and the perfect height to glide through the shed and across the beater bar raceway without snagging up on the yarns. I really appreciate the ends and how they are slightly curved upwards which really helps prevent unnecessary snagging.

The price is high, but these end-feed shuttles make a world of difference in your selvedges. They are really worth the price. I have a small loom with a fairly small shed (22-inch Harrisville). The Schacht boat shuttles don’t work for me, the pointy nose catches warp threads.

But the end-feed shuttle works just fine in this shed. I recommend highly. Once you try one, you’ll never want to go back to a traditional boat shuttle.

I love this shuttle and the people who developed it. I started weaving with the Schacht boat shuttle, but this tops the cake and is worth every penny. The tensioning device allows me to weave at least twice as fast and up to a yard a day.

The pirn is easily wound using the same bobbin winder for my boat shuttle. The pirn occasionally needs adjusting, but with a little tweeking here or there it lines up centrally to work smoothly.

I bought this shuttle to use (mainly) when weaving with two strands on my rigid heddle loom. It works perfectly for this purpose. The slim profile glides through the warp threads easily. Winding two bobbins gives the opportunity for a doubled weft with either the same or different colors in a single pass.

Highly recommend.
