20 Best Wood For Indoor Furniture (2023 Updated)

What a find! I live in a very small apartment and needed a small table to use for dining. The coffee table wasn’t working for me. I hated eating bending over most of the time because of table height or having to hold my plate.

I took a chance on this table and hit the lottery! It is perfect in everyway and now I can actually enjoy dining again in a upright position. I can have the two drop leaf’s down or up. Still a great space saver.

Plus, I got mine unfinished because I can finish it however I want to match my decor. I love this table and would recommend it to anyone.

I consider myself to be a moderately to strongly critical person when it comes to my purchases. This purchase didn’t only make me happy and satisfy what I was looking for. It went well beyond that to the point of being totally thrilled.

That is rare!! This table is beautiful, very well constructed and surpasses any expectations I had for it! I would definitely buy again. Not only was the product GREAT, but Zoro delivered in faster than expected time and the product was very well packaged!!.

This dresser looks great in the pictures, but I cannot say how it looks in real life just yet, because after three hours trying to get this thing put together I had to call it a night. If you do not have a power drill and a hammer, do not bother with this dresser.

Even with these things at my disposal, it is extremely slow going. None of the holes for the screws are pre-drilled on the wood you are drilling into, so you are literally drilling a screw into a flat piece of wood, which I cannot imagine how hard it would be to do with a regular screwdriver.

The feet were the worst part as they provide the world’s dinkiest Allen wrench to screw a bolt into a hole that has not been pre-threaded. It is just frustrating for a company to make furniture that is supposedly easy enough to put together at home and it not be easy at all.

I’m sure it will look great when it’s done but jeez louise.

THIS dresser took me on a freaking journey. When it arrived, I decided I would be brave and attempt to carry it up to my second floor apartment by myself. It was the most physically challenging thing I have done in my life and I ended up taking it up in pieces.

THEN putting it together was a whole second saga of struggle. There are no pilot holes, and this means it takes A LOT of force to screw into the wood. I had to take breaks just so my muscles could recover.

Then, one of the pieces was slightly split, and so I ordered wood glue and had to wait for that to come in. I glued the piece and continued on. When I was finally done, I inevitably had dented the drawers a bit while building them.

I learned you can put a wet towel down and iron the dents out and it worked decently well! Added even more complexity to the project. Overall, this dresser took me 8 hours to assemble all on my own. I ordered this and the nightstand and ultimately spent three days after work putting it together.

It is the most challenging piece of furniture I have ever built, but it is also my favorite piece of furniture I’ve built. I made sure to put each piece together well and I don’t find any issues with the drawers and it is overall a nice quality piece of solid wood furniture for the cheapest price I have come across.

If you plan to buy this dresser, expect to dedicate your time to putting it together. But in the end, you really do have a nice piece of furniture for a great price. And a sore back.

I’m good at building things, and this is easy if you’re experienced but nothing could have prepared me for a 6 hour building session. Very time consuming. I actually thought I was going crazy after 3 hours even with power tools THEN I said you know what, let me read the reviews….

I have been looking for the right table for my dining room. Something that is eye catching and beautiful in color. This table is all that and more to me! This two door console table was very easy to build.

The instructions were easy to follow and I had no issue. The size is perfect and I’m able to place my accent pieces on top with room to spare. Inside the doors are empty but I plan on adding things to really make it my own.

The color is a dark navy almost grey and I absolutely love it. It’s very modern and adds so much to my space. I constantly get compliments from guest about how nice this table is. It’s perfect and I’m so in love with it! I highly recommend!.

I received the Morgan Two Door Console Table in a grey/blue shade. LOVE THIS TABLE. I didn’t know I wanted let alone need a console table. The color is rich and compliments home décor easily. Very easy to assemble, packaging kept the condition of the table from getting scratched or dented.

Placed the table in the entry way by the front door. Perfect home addition. Great height to toss down keys, always find your shades or store away mail.

Great dresser. I love this thing so much I’m ordering another. This one will go into my living room. easy to put together. And as a female at 66years old, having no problems putting it together, I doubt anyone else will.

This a high quality bookcase. The wood is so nice, I decided not to paint it, but look for the simplest way to preserve the surface looking as natural as possible. It’s very heavy. The opposite of cardboard.

It doesn’t take up much space, but should hold a good number of books. I like that you can adjust the height on a couple of shelves. It’ll be great for the guest room I’m setting up for my grandchildren.

It’s not so hard to assemble, but it was a bit tricky to line up the pegs when putting on the second side. I suggest you don’t tighten the bolts all the way till both sides are on. To finish it off properly, it’s best to use a power drill.

It allows you to be able to screw the two adjustable shelves in place, but I don’t think that’s necessary.

originally ordered 2. now added a third one. Very well packaged. No damage. No missing hardware. Easy to assemble. Very solid hard wood construction. Back panel is a solid piece but the usual thin compressed product which most furniture today uses.

Good news is there are two solid wood strips to support in the back and the panel slides into grooves for more support. Hardware for assembly consists of heavy metal screws with washers. Very easy and sturdy.

Not as cheep as some shelves but doesn’t look cheep. Looks great. Hint: I started by putting the top piece flat on floor and attaching sides. Then add the bottom. Basically build upside down. Was easier for me.

The bookcase is reasonably attractive, sturdy and fairly easy to put together, although the instructions are very limited and contain no information on staining/painting. There is no website to check for further information on assembling, only a phone number (answering machine, I left a question, but never received a return call).

I was to assemble the top, bottom and stationary shelves to one side, then attach the other side. If I did it again, I would assemble as instructed, except for the top. After the shelves and bottom are attached to both sides, then turn upright and attach the top.

That way there won’t be a space the sides to the top of the case, it would look more professional. Also the screws for the backboards (which are flimsy) are self drilling. It would have been nice to note that in the instructions.

As far as finishing, I would look online for further info. I stained my island water, but didn’t use a stain prep product and the staining ended up slightly blotchy, but it still looks nice. PLUS, the only tool needed is a phillips screwdriver.

No drill needed. I will likely buy another parawood piece from IC.

Bought this coffee table about 2 years ago. I loved the overall look, color, and size. Very easy to put together and seemed like good quality. The screws on the legs are short & I wondered if they would stay in place.

Within a couple of month the legs did get wobbly, and would need some re-tightening every few weeks. That went on for a while so I ended up putting gorilla glue on them but even that wouldn’t hold them in place for long.

Another thing is the cheap paint. I decorated for a party and used scotch tape on it. After, the paint came off when I took the tape off leaving discolored marks on it. Water rings and bubbles easily damaged the top, & even wiping it clean with disinfectant wiped removes some paint/ color.

Disappointed with this purchase and would not recommend.

The quality of this coffee table was very, very low. I should have expected it for the price, but it doesn’t even resemble real wood in person. I actually laughed at how fake it looked when I opened the box.

The main part of the table is particleboard covered in a wood patterned veneer of some sort. The legs are covered with paper that is printed to look like wood grain. The paper actually started slipping around as I was screwing the legs into the main part.

I gave it away the same day I got it. On the plus side, it was packaged nicely and it felt fairly sturdy. If you can get past how ugly it is, it’s not a terrible purchase for the price.

Mid century is really in right now and for less than $100, it’s nice to get a quick update in my living room. My previous coffee table was a bit longer with a low shelf for storage but I prefer the more square look and hidden storage of this table.

It’s light enough that I can easily move it around the rug when I vacuum, too! Be careful with water marks and stains as the surface has a material that I can see peeling or bubbling off.

My wife and I were completely disappointed with the Leick furniture items we received. We purchased a set of five similar styled pieces; one Two Drawer Mission Coffee Table, one Mission End table, and three Mission Chairside End Tables.

Some arrived damaged, and all were of such poor quality that we called Hayneedle to return all of them. One of our primary observations was that looking at the bottom of the wood you could see that the wood was old, had the patina of possibly being outdoors awhile, and appeared to have been re-purposed from other projects.

In many areas underneath the tables the veneer of the wood was actually cracking, peeling away, or had been filled in with putty. In one case there were indentations and screw holes from hinges or some type of accessory unrelated to the structure of the furniture.

Several pieces of the structure of the furniture were not solid wood, but rather plywood. The varnish/staining was inconsistent, in some cases even different shades, did not cover all the wood (only the observable areas), and in one case the underside of the table top had a set of four finger prints in the varnish/stain.

Other quality issues included legs being uneven so that one of the items wobbled, on two of the items the drawers were set crooked and observably off angle, the wood and stain had blemishes, gouges, and rough marks, and on one piece of furniture the decorative wings did not fit correctly and left a gap between it and the table.

The bottom line is this furniture is poor quality, and although Leick gives the impression it’s made in the USA it’s actually made in China and looks it. The furniture we received was not worth the price or the hassle in unboxing it, putting it together, taking it apart, re-boxing it, and having to return and get a refund.

It was hard to believe the cheapest item was $194. Worth about a quarter of that. The included photographs should tell the tale.

I now have 2 of these tables, and neither of them were sent to me with the correct length of bolt. Maybe an easy fix, but I didn’t see where I needed to supply correct hardware. After we got the first one, we tried to assemble it, and it just wouldn’t get tight.

IE the legs tighten to the center/top portion of the table via 4 hex wrench bolts, which in this case are probably at least 1/2″ too long/ Unfortunate for us, my wife kept trying to tighten the leg unit, and next I knew, I saw the bolt head coming through the side of the leg piece.

Neither of us thought to measure the bolt to make sure what was packed was correct length, you assume some things, DO NOT assume anything with this table. Called Target Customer Service, and very nice young Man said he would ship another out right away, also gave me a &15 gift cert, for the trouble.

So now we have 2, both with way too long hardware. I really don’t want another table, so I’m going to go buy the correct hardware. If rolling your own makes sense to you, buy away. I really would like to see the 2 people’s tables that raved about it.

I have trouble believing this is a fluke, that the 2 I got were so wrong, both appeared to have never been opened, and the packing is such that you or I would never figure it out to get it back together again.

So I think the manufacturer has sent the wrong hardware on their own tables. I apply no fault to Target, they have gone over the Moon to help me with this, but I feel warning others to keep looking, is a better route for me to go now.

I hope Target can get a full refund from this manufacturer for such shoddily presented merchandise though. If we accept they make junk, why should they change.

Very nice wood and color, built well and looks nice. Happy with what I bought, but I had two issues. One, the drawers were not dove tailed joints as specified on all descriptions, which was very disappointing.

Second, when assembling the double leg frame to one side of the end table top piece, the through bolt holes were not aligned with the drilled and secured bolt nuts on the opposite piece. Luckily I was able to drill two new holes and assemble as designed.

Other than that, pretty good.

it’s very beautiful and surprisingly high quality given that it’s from Target. It has heft to it, I almost needed help to lift the wood piece. I was afraid the wood top wouldn’t support the weight of my 6’2” boyfriend but it can definitely accommodate his 200 pounds! Thanks to the other reviewers for recommending this, they were right! it was super easy to put together and the design is on trend and gorgeous.

Such a great piece for the money. Found similar ones that were easily 3 and 4 times more the cost. Using at bottom of bed and will love adding a couple of pieces to stage it.

Not great for seating. Fairly front heavy and unstable if you try to sit on it. Great for decor though.

I purchased this desktop a few months ago. It is quite beautiful. However, the finish is extremely fragile. I’ve been very gentle with the desktop, and placing an item on the desk will very likely scratch the finish, and probably put a dent in the wood.

I picked up a piece of paper with my fingernail, and accidentally put a scratch in the desktop with my soft fingernail. This desktop will require refinishing within 6 moths of purchase.

I ordered a 70 inch African Mahogany solid wood desktop which came missing pieces of finish all over, dents, and cracks. It looked damaged and used. When I wrote in with pictures to inform uplift of the damage, seeking a replacement, they said the damage wasn’t covered.

I’m incredibly disappointed in both the quality of the product and the service, neither of which were worth the purchase price of over $1500.

This has been a wonderful purchase for my home office. I feel more energized and not to mention more organized than ever. The quality is first class and really makes a statement when you walk to the office with the clean lines and industrial feel.

I got 4 for a table, two are a light pine colour, one is a medium maple (?) colour and the other is a dark oak colour. I did not plan on painting them, but having a natural wood finish. Now I have to go to the store to exchange the weird coloured ones.

I”m pretty upset, I ordered in the first place since the closest Lowe”s is an hour away for me. It”s a given the customer would want matching items.

I’m actually a bit unhappy. I bought a “set of 3” legs. All were hardwood, but one didn’t match the other two. It was a lot darker. What I envisioned for my project was a blond finish. What I ended up having to do was stain all the legs dark.

The table legs were only little stubs, not as the original post and the picture, the original post was for 16 legs with a 3 diameter .

PROS: This is made from REAL wood, and it’s very nice looking. CONS: Two pieces of hardware were missing, making it difficult to complete. They are non-standard pieces, so we had to get crafty and make our own in order to make it work.

Also, the bottom arched piece (which is mostly decorative, I hope) is warped, making it impossible to constuct using this piece. We finally just left it off, which is ok. But it doesn’t look as nice as it would with it, and there is a hole in the bottom piece where it was supposed to be screwed in.

Finally, this is not easy to assemble! You have to screw into the wood itself, with no guides and no holes.

Ordered eight of these. Based on one assembled I’m happy with the product. Pretty easy assembly. Sturdy. Appearance is as pictured on website. Looks good in my room.

We bought one of these cases a few months ago and it was ok. We tried to buy a 2nd one recently to go with the original, and the 2nd one looked nothing like the first even though the description and photograph were identical.

The color was way different and the style was even different. Houzz was good about it and took it back even though the manufacturer was defiant and not customer friendly at all.

A beautiful piece overall, but some of the build was backbreaking. The Allen wrench is good for all the parts for the base, just time consuming to build the whole thing. The headboard was the worst design ever! Having to use the Allen wrench to drive WOODSCREWS into the spindles for the headboard was HORRID! I just wish the woodscrews required just a Phillips and not the Allen wrench.

I also must complain about the headboard brackets! On the instructions it shows two holes you use to put the bolts in with the allen wrench. ALAS, no holes, and we had to do a makeshift fix with some wood screws.

Again, this is such a beautiful sturdy piece of furniture, and it’s been so nice not to have a box spring! The finish is very pretty and looks fantastic in our room.

This unfinished bench was perfect for my needs as I wanted to finish it to go with my heirloom farmers table. Arrived very fast and in undamaged condition. Very happy with the quality and would recommend.

*** update***. After reading reviews from many different retailers and searching for the best price I finally pulled the trigger and purchased this coffee table. Looks like the perfect dupe for the more expensive version.

I was so excited when it was delivered, the packaging looked fine, the box was not damaged and the table was wrapped in bubble wrap. Once I got it unwrapped I quickly noticed the entire table was not only cracked in half but also the entire bottom was cracked in a circle around the base! My husband and I noticed several spots where it looks like some sort of filler was used to smooth less than desirable pieces of wood and also fill in preexisting cracks – not a good look, not good quality, and not durable – obviously.

It seems as though this table is hit or miss, you may luck out and get a good one or you could end up with what I got. They are now sold out so a replacement wasn’t an option. I will admit I am more than a little envious of the other reviewers that seem to have gotten good ones!.

This coffee table is sturdy, but hollow (sounds like a drum when you lightly knock on it). I think it is strong enough to prop your feet on (I have all boys in our home) but I wouldn’t feel confident allowing them to sit on it (at least not my 200+ lb guys).

The mango wood is not too distressed and is a warm color, which matches my Target brass side table top almost perfectly. The slats/lines in the wood are straight and even, though in certain spots you can see a little of the seams where they are glued(?) together.

The finish is smooth, but the top feels slightly curved if you run your hands over it (as sometimes natural wood feels?) – it is not noticeable enough to see warped or look uneven when things are placed on top.

The height is low (just under 12″) but it works perfectly in our living room (to prop feet on – I wanted a more elegant, multifunctioning coffee table that was basically mostly used as an ottoman). The weight is not so much that one person is unable to adjust it slightly, with square wood feet (just like raw pieces of wood about 1/2 inch thick) on a chunky jute rug.

Overall a lovely piece with the exact look I wanted and an unbeatable price. Note of caution: the table seems undamaged and arrived packaged with foam, packaging bubbles, etc. but the outside cardboard box was roughly taped and one entire side of the box looked as if it had been soaked in oil.

I was worried when I started to open it, but the table was pretty well packaged inside the box. Also, I noted someone mentioned this was available at Walmart. I checked online and the exact same table was there, but it was currently over $300, so not less expensive (as the reviewer said) but actually cost more.

I am shocked and surprised about how good this table looks. I have been lusting after the $1800 lulu & Georgia version for the last year. I figured what the heck why don’t I order this $400 table from this company I’ve never heard of and just see what happens.

Well, wow!!! Super glad I did. Shipping was less than a week which is INSANE especially during COVID. And the table is absolutely stunning. Very happy!.

Great shelf for the money but assembly was very hard and there were a few problems w the product as delivered. First of all one shelf had a scratch and one shelf had a piece breaking off. I repaired the breaking off piece w superglue (but it looks imperfect) and used a furniture staining pen to repair the scratch.

Neither defect grabs attention on the assembled unit. Also many of the pieces had white stuff on them that required wiping. At first I thought it was styrofoam but I ended up thinking it was sawdust.

Third the shelves are made of very hard wood. This makes it impossible to screw in the wood screws without drilling a hole first. This is not hard to do but I would have appreciated a heads up in the directions.

Fourth, the backing piece for the unit was approximately 1 inch too wide. I ended up disconnecting the four disconnected backing pieces. Then I fit them in place one by one to insure no gaps. When I got the final piece I put it in place and placed a pencil line to show me what needed to be cut off.

I took it to a friend with a table saw and he sawed to fit. Then I brought it back and screwed it on. After standing up the unit I restored the seams to prevent them from bowing out from each other. These many adjustments required a few hours work that I did not plan on doing.

All in all I got a great price but it took 5+ hours to assemble.

FIRST ! It arrived intact. The boxes were damaged a little, but the packing protected the contents. Next I labeled each piece based on the very detailed illustration. Read over the instructions twice with my assistant.

You will need about an 8X8 ft space for the assembly. Taking our time it assembled in about 3 hr. Since we didn’t know what we were doing we talked about each step as we went. The wooden dowels require careful tapping only because you don’t want to over work them.

You want them snuggly in place. Keeping straight what’s or which way is “UP” was a point of contention. SO DON’T GET IN A RUSH. Test fit as often as you need to. You don’t want to have to disassemble this thing, just when you think you’re done.

Nuf said. It’s heavy !!! Have “Sliders” on hand. I got mine from ACE Hardware. Boy, do they work ! $13, and worth every penny. My Daughter in Law built this, and I helped !!! Sorry she’s not for Hire.

Very sturdy bookcase. The finish is lovely and the shelves can hold substantial weight. For the price and the size this thing is fantastic. A note on assembly. It is not overly difficult, but you absolutely need two people.

Each piece is heavy on its own and it takes one person just to hold pieces for another person to attach the screws. Also, you must absolutely assemble this piece in the spot you intend to put it. Its very heavy to move once assembled.

The product arrived on time and the dimensions were exact. Unlike many wood offerings with that slightly off dimension these were spot on and the texture was smooth. Thank you. One issue I had was the cherry seemed lighter than other cherry I had from a black cherry wood on my property that i was supplementing in a project.

Maybe it would have aged to the same shade. I would buy the product again if for the entire project.

Wood is okay there are several black knot marks on one side of one of the boards. The stickers they use are very hard to remove and when they are removed it leaves a residue on the board after removing the residue I noticed the stickers had stained the wood where they were.

A light sanding does not remove the stains I still have enough good timber to do the job I bought it for but wish they would change the way the wood is labeled so as not to leave a stain.

The Board was very nice on one side. the other side had very little heartwood showing, the rest was all “sapwood”. If you what wood that needs to be see on both sides this would be a big disappointment.

I wrote Rockler and sent them a photo, two weeks ago. still know response.

Requirements: a decent amount of clear space for assembly; strong organizational skills; strong teamwork; diligence; creativity; perseverance; and patience. Biggest Takeaways:1. ) Wood is good quality and you should use an electric drill for pre-drilling holes and installing screws2.

) The top piece does not have correct bore holes for the dowels, I recommend removing a dowel if you have problems3. ) The doors are difficult to attach to the hinges, you need to open and close them while angling the door to get the hinge to pop into the pocket4.

) Nothing about this piece of furniture is soft-close; I recommend the fabric furniture feet stickers to keep things quiet5. ) The alignment is off on the doors. However, it could be fixed if I cared enough to decipher the directions on tweaking the hinges.

It looks fine. 6. ) The metal track is a nightmare to attach to the two drawers because the screws are not pointy and you will drop them 40 times trying to get a flat-tipped screw into a bore hole with a slightly smaller width.

But, it can be done !I truly believe you need an electric power drill for this one. Not only for the screws, but for pre-drilling the holes. The wood is actually decent quality so hand-turning a screwdriver was a nightmare.

You need to be super diligent putting this together. Once it is in a general box shape/shell, it wants you to use books to prop up the shell and put in the shelves and backing. I used folded towels and fluffy rugs because I did not have books that were the same thickness and it would have been wobbling everywhere.

The hinges are good quality but it is actually so difficult to attach the doors. You need to angle the door and pop the hinge into the pocket one at a time so the hinge pops into the pocket and holds the door up on its own (but still have a partner hold it up the whole time).

Other than the general high-level of difficulty of this piece, it is great. It fits hangers and clothes well, even if it looks over-filled when the doors are open. I would recommend this to two (or three) people who are up for this rewarding challenge.

Very good for self assembly furniture. Materials are of good quality. Heavy duty hinges and drawer glides. Mostly solid wood with a good finish. Pieces fit together well. I was able to assemble by myself in 3-4 hours at a leisurely pace.

No problems during assembly, but you should modify assembly steps to fit your circumstances. Some handyman experience definitely helps.

I feel that the advertisement of this product misrepresented the amount of “assembly required. ” A piece this size should be more substantial in nature. at this size/weight, construction should be sturdier than hand-turned hardware and particle board.

Assembly was time consuming, but not terribly difficult. I added some structural reinforcements, and once filled (and settled) in its final position in the room, it is an adequate piece of furniture.

I don’t suppose, however, it would survive the moving process more than once.
