20 Best Wood For Cooking Pizza (2023 Updated)

I have owned and operated a pizzaria for over 20 years. I finally wanted to be able to make one from home. This oven is perfect. For what I need. Not over the top but we’ll constructed. I love it and you will too.

Buy it if you can afford it as it is an expensive purchase but it works beautifully. As advertised, pizza in one minute. We are super happy with it.

Beautifully smooth after a couple of generous applications of mineral oil and a good buffing! Bought 2 of these and waited a few weeks after seasoning before using them. With a good dusting of flour, the raw pizzas slid off nicely into the oven.

The wood is too thick to slide back under a cooked pizza to remove from the oven, but that’s no bother since I use a pair of tongs to grab the front edge and slide the pizza onto a thin perforated pan to cool before slicing.

I’ve also used the pizza peels to hold hot quesadillas for cutting and serving. Very happy with this purchase!.

This made my life so much easier! No worrying about burnt fingers or flopping and ripping the pizza out of the oven! Can?t wait to try the pizza stone and paddle on the grill!

Lightweight, very nice looking to set out or hang. Not real think, nice beveled edge. I put a food safe mineral oil on it, really bought out the natural beauty-Love it!

The American Metalcraft 2616 is an wonderful quality made wooden pizza peel that is the perfect size for use with small home sized ovens. It’s a single solid piece of wood, light weight and smooth surfaced.

A light coat of Emmet’s Elixir Wood Conditioner, also bought from WebstaurantStore, and its set to launch pizzas or even act as a serving board. I should note however that whatever wood its made of isn’t very “thirsty” and didn’t absorb too much oil and thus likely won’t absorb spilled sauce, grease, etc as easily so this aids in cleanup.

Big enough for any normal sized pizza with a short handle that is perfect for small or home kitchens, the small handle also necessary for its dual role as a serving board. The price is pretty great for a wood board of its size.

All in all, a great wooden peel for a great price.

These are the best pizza peels on the market. I have tried purchasing other brands that cost less to see if they would compare, and they do not. Much better to spend the extra money for a better product.

I do tend to go through these a lot but we have a high volume of pizzas getting pulled with this peel so I always have extra because they will wear down if you use it the amount that my restaurant does.

The long handle peel is great for launching pizza in our wood fired oven. It does a great job and is very sturdy!! The best part is the dough doesn’t stick to the paddle when putting it in the oven! Quality peel! Recommended for all pizzerias.

this is a really nice peel. I had an aluminum one with a fold down handle. Light weight. But I have glass top stove stove and I was always afraid of scratching that with the metal when putting the pizza on top of stove.

Also when the hot pizza hit that aluminum it would tweak and I’d almost loose that pizza off the side. This peel wont scratch my stove top, wont tweak when it hit the pizza heat. Its the perfect size.

I was worried the handle would be to big as I have smaller hands. Nope its perfect. I was also afraid it may be to long for my short arms. Nope its perfect. Glad I went ahead and purchased even though I was unsure.

Very impressed with the quality of this peel. its strong and sturdy. Perfectly balanced. Works awesome in my outdoor pizza oven and looks great in the kitchen when not in use. I plan to use it for a cheese and cracker snack board during the holidays too.

I recently bought a new house and installed an outdoor pizza oven. I so need this badly. This was great because it was not sticking on my bread. It makes sliding under the pizza very easy!

This thing is great for pizzas. I already have a pellet grill, so makes sense to use a pellet pizza oven. It requires about 10-12 minutes heat up, and then fill with more pellets. I turned my pizza more frequently because the temp gauge was reading over 900 degrees.

Turned out great. I did my first with a defrosted frozen pizza from local grocery store. Table is sat on only raised 2 degrees from the ambient temp.

I really like this oven. I have actually only used it a couple of times and there is a bit of a learning curve as to regulating the temperature. I have made 8 pizza so far and 5 of them have come out well and the other 3 not so well because the temperature got too low.

When the temperature is where it should be it works great. Right. I know after a few more times I will probably have it dialed in and I will be making great pizzas all the time.

Gets to temp in 15 min and works as advertised. Draw back is that you need to pull the hopper back to refill the pellets as their is no direct way without doing this. It works but would be much better if this could be done.

Can’t beat the price though compared to other comparable ovens.

Pros: – Easy assembly. – Heats up fast. – Gets very hot (over 900F, 500C). Cons: – Cools down fast. – Uses a lot of pellets to stay hot. – Requires a learning curve to keep the heat constant. Overall, this is a great purchase.

I can’t see buying another brand of pellet oven such as Ooni for $350 when you can get this for $150. If I was going to spend more I would be looking to get other features such as a gas heating source, larger size, longer heat retention, etc.

Made my first pies. Definitely a learning curve. Cooks FAST. I’ve learned to make pizzas as round as possible, easier to turn and cook evenly. Make sure dough is room temperature. Make smaller pies and have them lined up and ready to bake.

Use olive oil spray and cornmeal on your peel. I’ve been using a long bbq spatula and the peel to rotate during bake. Must be attentive while baking. No insert and walk away. Have everything you need ready and close by.

Does take 18 minutes to heat to proper operational temperature, but after initial heat up, ready to eat pizzas in virtually no time (minutes). Arrived well packaged. Well made and sturdy. Pizzas I’ve made so far came out great.

Great product and I’m impressed with the build quality for the price. Much better than I expected. Makes great pizza and once you learn how to maintain the heat, it works great. Just follow the instructions and you’ll be fine.

Great to remove the pizza from our new pizza oven for our outside grilling. And it serves the pizza nicely! Because it is wooden it can be placed on the plastic outside tablecloth and not worry about it melting the tablecloth.

Makes us look like professional chefs now!.

Didn’t work as intended! Dough got stuck to it even after lathering the thing with flour! The wooden edge is too thick to slide under the dough

Extremely thin! I get that it needs to be thin to transfer the pizza from the peel to the oven, but it feels like it may break at any time when I am washing it.

Perfect gift for our friends with a new pizza oven. They loved the quality, sturdiness and length & they are very happy with them. Just rec’d them Tuesday & will try them out tonight.

I don’t know how I could ever survive with these amazing tools. They make each task easy to perform. And they are very well made.

A friend recommended these utensils and they are great. Very sturdy, easy to clean and they arrived within a few days.

If you can figure out how to get it hoisted to your final stand or platform, you’ve done the hard part. Recommend lots of bodies or a good chain hoist. With trial and error have gotten to where I can get it to temp (+6 – 700F) in 30 to 45 min.

Expect that to be a bit less as the weather warms up. Internal temp moves down pretty quick with the front cover off but doesn’t seem to impact the floor temp too drastically. The only negative I have is the stainless “L” piece that you can use to separate the coals and fire from the rest of the oven.

I would like it to be a bit heavier and will probably go to a local metal shop and have something made that won’t flex with the heat. Overall this is a really good product and I am looking forward to spring and summer where we can really take advantage of the amount of cook space inside of it instead of just cooking a couple of pizzas for the two of us.

After my cure, I have baked 54 pizzas in my oven, 12 inch, using fresh dough or par baked. Unit temps quickly and is easy to hold temp, just drop a split log onto the pile when the temp drops. Using the door this temp will hold for hours, only adding minimal wood.

Cools down quickly and make a great pizza! I have wood fired all different pizzas from Breakfast, to just Cheese. Overloaded Meat Lovers or an All Veggie. Launch your pizza and only turn 1/4 turn and it’s done in one minute.

I can’t stress enough how this oven is worth every penny.

This oven is amazing! It takes about 30 min to get fire made and heat brought up to temperature. I waited 2 months after purchasing this To write. I have cooked in it now many times and really enjoy it.

The pizza that comes out is exponentially greater than a standard oven! We have had many get together a with family and friends and this is a tasty fun way to have everyone over! You can fit 4, 12 inch pizza as it claims however I find 3 to be best for the sake of being able to turn your pizzas and not mess up the others in the oven! I have gotten this oven up to 470 C but hotter isn’t always better.

I find I end up cooking my pizzas between 250-300. This oven makes a great pizza! The stand is great but was kind of a pain in the ass to assemble, some of the worst directions I have ever seen in my life.

Also don’t be fooled by it only weighing 300lbs. It’s HEAVY! Granted that being said I’m very happy that if I ever move it will go with me because it is moveable! For the price this oven is hard to beat! My wife is a chef and we own our own restaurant and we have even talked about taking this to the restaurant because it’s more than capable to handle volume!.

I bake my pizzas directly on a ceramic stone – and this peel works great for getting the pizza on and off of it. One of the advantages of a wooden pizza peel over an aluminum one is that you can slice your pizza right on it.

Pizza peel arrived ahead of schedule and in perfect condition (although it was on top of the packaging instead of surrounded by it!). The price was the best of all I looked at! I love the longer handle too.

Mine arrived in a highchair box. Took quite a while to ship and after I made a homemade pizza for guests I had over and was getting ready to use it, I noticed that it was actually warped, curving up on the sides.

Honestly, returning things through the mail is such a hassle and I had no choice but to use it at that moment so I\’m not going to bother returning it. I will probably end up buying a different one from a local store instead.

Fired up and cooked 1st pizza. Wow! Amazing. Best pizza ever. Careful though. I noticed I blistered my nose the next morning. Pizzas cooked in 90 seconds. Very hot fire. Kept looking to see when oven turns black to white.

Waited 20 minutes when it turned white. cooked first pizza dough and tossed out. The floor was @ 720F. Pizza cooked perfect. Turned a few times and took the pizza to the top of dome. loved it. Great cherry wood flavor.

We researched ovens for over a year and there was no doubt that CBO made the finest product available. We wanted our oven to be the focal point of our lakeside retreat and it exceeded our expectations.

This pizza peel is perfect! I was worried about the inexpensive price plus some negative reviews. But they are amazingly sturdy and I’m glad I didn’t waste money on a more expensive one. We got the 22 inch handle to put pizzas into a woodfired oven at home.

I’d say it’s the perfect length, you can stay a decent distance from the wood oven but also have control of where the pizza lands.

I thought this was too inexpensive to work well. I was wrong. We built a pizza oven in our gas grill using firebrick and baking steel. This pizza peel works perfectly to place the dough inside. Its lightweight and the perfect size.

If you are used to American Metalcraft pizza peels, this one will feel substantially lighter to you. But it is not less sturdy. In fact, we bought a bunch of different types of peels at the same time, and right now, 2 thick American Metalcraft pizza peels are the ones that are broken and in the garbage.

Also, we scrape the debris off of peels at night and over time, other peels end up with “wood slivers”. These peels don’t do that – they remain smooth – and we didn’t even put any oil on them to protect them.

Great price, pretty decent performance, I’d buy them again.

A five-star product if I have seen one! We have already purchased a grill from here and decided to invest in a pizza oven as well (why not?). It arrived quickly and was put to use on the very same day.

I love this little oven and it will make a great pie. I have found I needed to make a few changes to make it more versatile and perform to create my preference for pizza. I prefer a little crisper crust on the bottom which was tuff with this oven.

To solve this and create a better oven for bread I insulated the bottom to retain heat better.

I recommend getting this, especially if you want to impress your friends during a summer party. It is brilliant for pizza, but we have used it for a variety of different dishes too and they turned out amazing.

After extensive research we decided on The Torino 200 for our Grill Island setup. We have used it only about 5 times so far but have made awesome Pizza and Wings! Looking forward to cooking more dinners in this oven.

Probably the only con is that on the front, (facade) top area has soot on it that I cannot seem to get cleaned. I have used the recommended cleaning but still can’t seem to get it clean. Would highly recommend this Pizza Oven.

I waited until I had a few uses under my belt. I can say I like it more each time. A very high-end oven that is nearly perfect in my humble opinion. Pros: – Most importantly, excellent pizzas in about 90 seconds at 750 degrees – This thing is beautiful, part of the reason I purchased and added the glass door to my series 300 order – VERY high quality.

No skimping on stainless, or construction here, everything is very well engineered and manufactured – EXCELLENT heat retention. I shut it down and 12 hours later it was still 200 degrees inside. Incredible.

Cons: – Really almost nothing, except, it is REALLY heavy. 550 lbs making it difficult to assemble even for 2 people – A minor nit is that the fire bricks in the base have about 1mm too much space, leaving gaps that make pizza manipiulation slightly harder I love this thing.

I have cooked Carpacio, Strawberry-Jalapeno margaritas, and about 15 pizza’s so far. More to come. -.

Very well insulated and a good size oven for a small family. Three of us , so it’s the perfect size. My only complaint is that it was not fully assembled, which was pretty difficult for folks in their mid 60’s 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻We did it!! I think BBQ guys should make it better known that you need to assemble that cart and lift it.

It weighs well over 300 pounds. Cooks beautifully.
