20 Best Wood For Bed Slats (2023 Updated)

This is not a BOARD. It’s misleading. It doesn’t even have a flat cardboard inside it (shine a flashlight behind it and it’ll go through the other side. It literally just 4 thin slats (2″) of wood with a cross beam on a frame covered in cloth.

Very flimsy and won’t give you or your bed any support. Don’t waste your money on this. Two sets of plywood cut in size is half the price and function much better than this. If you’re looking for a support for memory foam bed to sit on top of a wooden slats foundation, this is not the answer.

Honestly I don’t even know what can this product be used for. Even a spring matrassess will sag on this board.

My mattress had gotten soft so I bought a topper. That worked for a while but I realized it still wasn’t firm enough. I decided I needed something firm like a board to put between the topper and the mattress.

I saw this product and decided to give it a try. At first I thought it was just a frame with slats covered by material and wouldn’t provide the support I needed but I was wrong, it provided good support for a person weighing 300 lbs.

The only problem is the slats can hit you in a wrong spot. I’m going to try a new topper that’s a little thicker to see if that resolves the issue.

I’m very happy with this purchase. I needed a new foundation for a new, smaller mattress and I wanted the bed to be lower than a traditional box spring would allow. This Item looked sturdy but I was skeptical about assembly and having a foundation with gaps between the support bars.

I finally decided to give it a try. I’m a 50 yr old woman with lupus, fibro and RA. The assembly of the bunkie board was easy peasy, It took more time dragging it from my front porch, up the stairs and opening the packaging than it did to put together.

The bunkie board fit my standard ‘hollywood style’ bed frame perfectly. The height of the bed is now 20 inches, 8 inches lower than my previous bed. Its perfect, no more climbing and my feet touch the floor when sitting on the edge of the bed.

Very sturdy, no squeaks. I made one alteration. I cut down the cardboard box my new hybrid ‘bed in the box’ came in and placed it over the bunkie board bars for peace of mind and support of the mattress.

If there’s any slipping of the mattress_ a no slip pad used for area rugs will work just fine. **note: A traditional box spring (no springs) is made of simple pine boards with a cardboard top and a pretty fabric overlay_ which is why I thought of adding a cardboard layer.

Would I recommend this product?. Yes. Would I purchase again?. Yes, and I did for another family member. I’m very pleased.

This thing is great. No cloth parts like a box spring that a cat can tear into lol. It’s sturdy af, and it lowered my mattress a few inches, making it easier to get into. It was delivered a little bent, but nothing a pair of channellocks couldn’t handle.

My mattress doesn’t sag anymore either. I’m super happy about this item!.

The Zinus Queen Quick lock Bunkie Board was very easy to assemble! They give you the tools. Very solid! Learned this from a review on other site – add weather stripping to the side after placing on frame so it doesn’t move.

Can also use zip ties for extra sturdiness. This is the best one we’ve seen!!.

Great frame, very sturdy and love the simple design. Have had it a month so far and with the tall heavy mattress I have it’s worked well so far. The included pads for the feet I think help resist movement and were great for my floor.

Assembly much easier with two people but likely feasible for one – think it took us maybe 30 mins to put together.

High quality product including the packing and the instructions are wonderfully simple. I was able to put it together in no time. Plus with the Velcro, dowels, and sticky tape on the slats, I know this mattress ain’t going nowhere.

Such ingenious design. I would not have imagined I’d be so excited about a bed frame before!.

I feel bad writing the very first poor review but the quality control leaves a lot to be desired. All 4 boards had issues in that the stain was not applied evenly and lots of areas have dried out making it look awful.

This is unacceptable. I liked the color but it had to be returned. Also, it is advertised as all wood so it is technically wood but it’s glued wood boards and you can clearly see it’s not like one long board which is one piece, what I expected it to be when they said real wood.

Ended up ordering another product instead. Walmart was great about allowing me to either return to the store or sending to my house to be picked up.

(Review for heavy duty queen slats) This is a perfect bunkie board/ slats replacement for specific bed frames. Other reviewers did not do their homework on what they needed for their particular frames.

These heavy duty slats were perfect for my needs and fit my bed frame exactly as needed. Both the length and width as described were correct, which I measured to be sure of the fit before ordering. If you have a bed frame which came with similar slats or bunkie board, these will probably work, but measure to be sure.

If you know what you are ordering, these are an excellent replacement. The purpose for my purchase was to replace ‘sprung’ slats which came with my Ikea platform bed. I do not like the feel of sprung slats, so these were great.

The actual slats span the entire width of the mattress, are sturdy and wider than the ones I’m replacing, and have less than 3 inches of space between slats, which is required to stay in warranty by some mattress manufacturers.

The box that is ships in will be heavier/larger than most packages (as expected), so you may need assistance with unboxing and ‘installing’ on your bed frame.

This is the best thing I could have gotten myself! I have fibromyalgia and a bad left hip and, my foam mattress is fine, it was the metal platform that was killing me. Having princess and the pea syndrome, I could feel EVERY bar and spring through the mattress even though it’s 8 inches thick.

I thought I’d either have to buy another platform and maybe even a thicker mattress. Not so! This Bunkie board solved all the problems and for an excellent price. It works perfect with my platform. In fact I actually got 7 hours sleep last night! So much better than my usual 4-5.

Bought a bed at ikea with the storage and bought the wood pallets from them worse thing ever. Within 15 minutes they started falling. I got on Amazon right away and this mattress support is amazing. My mattress is a gel memory foam so it’s very flimsy this holds it up so well.

I am also pregnant and sleep so comfortable so happy I decided to buy it and try it out. I am a plus size female and my nephew also loves to jump on the bed so this thing is very sturdy. If you need something to withhold under the mattress try it for sure.

Fits perfect on the bed platform no extra spaces I got a queen.

It was exactly as described and very sturdy. Very fast delivery and I would recommend. The only problem was, it wasn’t clear instructions. They left out a part on the instructions and I had to go online to see why the legs wouldn’t go together well.

After I saw the online instructions, it was easy to put together. They should add on the instructions that came with it that important part. Hence the 4 stars instead of 5. Again, very sturdy!!.

The worst product I’ve ever purchased!! Did not come with all items listed on the instruction sheet. Instructions vague and give little to no example. Leg extenders to not have threads to secure both ends, very unsafe.

Missing an entire set if thread glides. Couldn’t be more disappointed.

I have a high bed so I needed to use the long glides with the extenders. However they keep falling off because the pole for the support does not fit into the extender. As such I’m very concerned that the weight of the foundation and mattress will eventually cause the support to buckle in the middle.

Worked exactly as expected. Purchased to lower my moms queen-sized bed removed the box spring, rolled out the slats on the bed frame, and placed the mattress on top. Perfect.

Meh. A little too narrow for our bed. Not the greatest or sturdiest quality but I made it work. I’d recommend an actual box spring over this.

I purchased this product to provide additional support to my sofa couch sleeper bed. I had replaced my old thin mattress with a foam mattress. The foam mattress was very squishy and needed additional support so that my guests didn’t feel the metal bars of the pull out bed.

This product was the perfect answer! It also stores very easily inside the couch. I just leave it underneath the mattress. I highly recommend this product to anyone wanting to increase the comfort of their pull out sofa bed!.

We had specific height parameters we needed to fit between for our bed height and the space we wanted under the bed for storage. I chatted several times with Stafano, who was both friendly and helpful.

The frame arrived quickly. It is definetly not finished furniture, but a structural frame. We bolted it together quickly and easily. Our new mattress hadn’t arrived yet, so we put our old box spring/mattress on the new frame and what an amazing difference the frame made.

We hadn’t realized that our 40+ year old frame was in such bad shape and had such an impact on our mattress and sleeping patterns. However, I ordered 8″ legs from another source, since I wanted my storage under the bed and the 5″ legs from LUMA were too short.

When our new hybrid mattress arrived a week later, we installed our 8″ legs and put the new mattress on the frame, and about collapsed the whole thing. four of the nine legs were slanted and both side frames were racked.

The whole bed felt wobbly and unstable. My husband (who is a designer and has built houses) decided the problem was only one fastening point at the head/foot and the side frames, allowing the frame to “twist” with the weight of the mattress.

We took the bed apart and removed the legs, put the frame back on the floor with the new mattress. on it. My husband bought some 1x3s and additional nuts/bolts and installed them as cross members to hold the side frames stable.

We re-installed the 8″ legs. It is solid and stable, not quite as solid as when it was on the floor, but still very solid. I am unaware of my husband moving or getting out of bed, thus my sleep has improved.

I do like the removable cover that I can launder a couple of times per year. And My underbed storage works great. Thank you.

My wife and I recently purchased this foundation for a new king bed. This arrived promptly and was well packaged. Nothing was damaged, all hardware was included, and all the wood was solid and in good shape.

I’m a hobbyist woodworker so the quality of the wood used for this was very nice to see. Assembly was very straightforward. I was finished in about 15-20 minutes. The foundation was extremely sturdy and had a good amount of weight.

I view this as a positive since it makes the bed more stable. The included cover is excellent and covered the foundation easily. The material is thick and had no smell. I was really impressed with it.

Customer service was also really good. The order confirmation and shipping information was received promptly. Luma is a class act company. The biggest thing that stood out in my mind was that shortly after I placed my order, a holiday sale went into effect.

Without my even asking, Luma refunded me the difference of my purchase price and the holiday sale. I didn’t even know about the holiday sale until they contacted me to let me know they were refunding me.

We ordered this foundation along with our natural latex hybrid mattress. When the white glove delivery men brought both items to our home we all realized our king cherry rail bed had a rail down the middle so king foundation would not work.

It requires 2 twin XL foundations. After consulting with the experts at Luma, they recommended best option was buying box springs locally. So we returned the Luma foundation. Box springs were delivered a few days later from local store nearby.

Definitely wanted new foundation to support our new Luma mattress so it all worked out. The experts at Luma were very knowledgeable and helpful as to best options for our bed. If the Luma foundation had worked with our bed frame we feel it would have been perfect so highly recommend.

Very good customer service. Return was picked up next day by FedEx.

This bedframe came just in time for my 3 year old to make the transition from a toddler bed to a regular bed. And this bed is absolutely perfect! It is low enough to the floor for her to be able to crawl into it and also not too far off the ground in case she accidentally falls out of bed during the night.

Putting this frame together was pretty simple. I did get hung up on some directions but once I figured those out, it was smooth sailing. The frame is very sturdy and absolutely gorgeous. 10/10 would reccomend especially for little ones getting their first “big bed”.

I was sent Flash Furniture – belnick bed frame by the TryIt Sampling Community to assemble, use, and review. I was very impressed by how heavy and solid each piece felt when bringing out of the box. It comes with all items needed to assemble correctly.

We had it up and usable within an hour. I must say, it looks very nice in our guest room! We purchased a hybrid foam mattress for it (no box spring needed) and viola, a really nice, comfortable be for anyone.

I really like the simplicity and elegance this frame offers. I highly recommend it.

This bed frame was very simple to put together and only took roughly 30 minutes total. My husband had to drill two additional holes to make sure the wood slab inserts lined up properly which wasn’t an issue at all.

It is a very sturdy bed and would buy other products made by this brand in the future. The only downfall to this product is that it doesn’t come in additional colors.

I brought this bed for guests coming for the holidays. It’s much higher than the usual air mattress. It keep inflated. Very happy! The Bedroom Store shipped out my order promptly and in perfect condition.

I am so pleased with the Sensarest air mattress. I am 5’4″ and 140LBS and my boyfriend is 6’4 200LBS so he tends to pull me into the middle but this air mattress kept us both on our sides and slept comfortably! I love the velveteen cover and built in pump (it even has a little compartment to hold the cord in!).

Used this on my metal bed frame with a vertical center support bar. Seems to be holding my memory foam mattress and me (I’m around 200 lbs. ) just fine, no creaking or signs of strain. The boards did seem a liiittle more flexible than I’d like when I put some weight on them individually before putting my mattress on top of them, but after putting the bed back together I’ve had no problems.

The fabric covering means there’s no noise from wood rubbing on metal when I move, and the whole thing seems like it would be really easy to just roll back up and go when I need to.

This mattress is 1000% awesome. I’m severely biased towards this mattress. If you’re somewhat athletic, a gym rat, or you suffer from soreness, this is the mattress for you. The recovery of this mattress is so good it feels unfair.

I currently workout Mon, Wed, Fri each week and I feel refreshed and ready to go again after one night’s sleep. It’s insane. Moreover on rough workdays when I pull long nights even if I don’t sleep much and feel groggy I can’t deny that the mattress just feels plain great.

Basically even if you don’t get a lot of sleep, your sleep quality will be good. The mattress is constantly on my mind. It’s a love affair. It’s a really good mattress period! PS. I don’t really use the edge of my mattress all too often so I don’t have much to say about the edge support, however, the edge has never bothered me.

We bought this for our King Bear Hybrid mattress and we could not be more pleased. It is a nice color where it doesn’t bother us that it shows with our bed frame. We also love the mattress and cannot believe we were sleeping on anything else for as long as we have.

The foundation was VERY easy to put together. I will say I put mine together and placed the wooden planks on after moving the frame into my bedroom. It would have been a lot harder to transport if I had done it another way.

We love this foundation and bed. Both came within a very short time frame, which was even better!.

I can’t say enough good things about my Bear experience thus far! I have been sleeping on the king mattress for a month now and I have been sleeping so well! 6x a week, at 530a, I go to Crossfit so a sound night’s sleep is the most important thing to me to be able to get up early everyday and give it all I can.

Sure I have had a couple restless nights but I will chalk that up to other stressors in life. My girlfriend, who was skeptical at first, has begun to sleep better and better as well so I give that three stars alone! All in all, I expect to be keeping the mattress through it’s life expectancy but the 100-night no hassle period is extra comfort (ha) and piece of mind.

I also purchased the Bear king size foundation and absolutely LOVED the setup and the design of these pieces. Maybe I misread or didn’t see it but beware this is a split foundation. I have had terrible experiences with split foundations in the past, and had I known it was split I may not have purchased, but I do not have any regrets! Besides being split, the only other “gripe” I have is the difficulty in getting the foundation covers on each piece.

It was quite the stretch and took a bit of extra grunt to make it work but hey, if that’s my only two complains on the entire Bear experience and product usage, then who cares!.

We bought the Lonset rather than the Luroy because we already had a KS mattress so needed our mattress to sit above the boundaries of the Brimnes KS bed we also bought. Our non-european KS mattress is 3cm longer than the IKEA KS beds &, with the Lonset, sits proud of the bed surround.

which is excellent. It’s edges sit right on the exterior rim of the bed. The Luroy would have had our mattress trying to squeeze down into the bed frame. We also don’t like to compromise on our sleep.

so we went with the better quality & infinitely more springy & supportive Lonset. So that’s the practical matters dealt with. Now the purely delightful. We LOVE our new Brimnes bed with Lonset slatted base.

It’s sooooo comfortable. Even my mother collapsed onto it & said she wanted one. My husband & I are PLUS sized – hence the KS bed. The Lonset supports both of us beautifully. & we have 200kgs between us! My husband also loves the height of our new bed.

He’d always wanted a bed on a platform. but with Lonset. it’s like a bed on a platform – really high! Our 2 little fur kids are the only ones not loving the height of our new bed. However, they also love being put up onto it where they promptly crash out.

I mean, ‘work flat-out for Australia’. Coupled with the Brimnes bed, we now have the biggest & best storage beneath us – better than everywhere else we looked – on a modern white bed with clean lines.

Lonset sets this off with it’s superior comfort & height. We love it!.

Easy to assemble, very loosely attached supporting frame with screws, set out bands, threaded the slats, 1st and last slats first(love the colour coding) followed by the rest, once slats in place, tighten the 12 screws.

Had to modify the existing bed frame slightly to accomodate the frames. Very satisfied with the purchase.

These are pieces of thin veneer that one needs to pass through a series of plastic ribbons to assemble. Easy but time consuming process. The slats themselves are very flimsy and we do not feel very confident about their durability.

They do make noise on moving around in bed but not too loud. These are curved and will give your mattress a slight lift, so do bear that in mind while selecting the level at which to fix the supporting beams on the bed.

Would not have purchased these if IKEA had an option of solid timber slats. Unfortunately, these are the better ones among the available options.

This mattress without a doubt due to its’ shear weight (yes heavy mattress) and springiness is built on a heavy duty quality slab of quite firm (but not hard) latex as its foundation. Likely to last for many years.

This excluding the shell is the firm side. For lightweights that can’t get firm latex to compress enough. (probably anyone under 200lbs) might find this side initially comfortable but will most likely do a lot of tossing and turning and wake up sore unless they pad it with a thick enough (probably 3 inch) medium topper.

That’s where the other side was supposed to come in. The so called medium side in my opinion is probably a two inch layer of overly soft (not medium) foam designed to mask the firmness of the firm slab.

If you are a real light weight guessing 140 lbs or lighter this side might feel luxurious enough. At 185 the so called medium side bottoms out instantaneously and causes this latex mattress to feel identical to a futon.

Lacks springy liveliness of quality latex of which I owned before and slept on for over 15 years so I know. This mattress should of had three inches of firmer (true) medium or perhaps two inches firmer medium with only an inch of soft on the medium side.

But then at this price point you would have a true luxurious ten inch mattress and the competitors would be complaining. A lightweight who throws a feather bed substitute (polyester) topper 3 inch is going to love this mattress on either side.

With said topper (I’m about 185 lbs) I find the firm side slightly better than tolerable and it might grow on me over time. The other side unsalvageable (in my opinion) since there is already an overly soft latex layer built in.

In summary due to the sale. I feel as though I got a decent kit foundation with a pretty and durable casing and a quality slab of latex with a soft and pretty and probably durable cover on it. quite suitable I suppose to play around with and try to make a finished comfortable bed.

The bed smelled awful!! I had a reaction to it and they wouldn’t let me return it despite only having it for three days. They didn’t offer a refund or a credit either. The email response I received said the website says it can’t be returned.

but you have to go through two different links and scroll to the bottom of the page to find that one sentence out of hundreds. The confirmation email I was sent said they accept returns on mattresses, which led me to believe I could return the boxspring/foundation.

Nothing was said about the foundation being non-returnable in the email. This company seems to be intentionally misleading customers. Also, the tag on the cotton cover said it couldn’t be washed despite the website saying it is machine washable.

Will never buy from this company again and will be sure to let everybody I know aware of this scam of a company.

We purchased this foundation in hopes that it would solve our problem of a squeaky TP foundation caused by a heavy king-sized Tempur-Pedic mattress. However, this was not the case. Once we got the Latex for Less foundation assembled, which came without instructions (although easy enough to figure out) and a couple of the predrilled holes were not wide enough for the bolts (we had to forcibly hammer the bolts further in to attach the nuts), we placed the LfL foundation and our TP mattress on the bed with high hopes.

Unfortunately, when we first sat on the side of the bed, we were greeted with loud wood cracking and squeaks from the LfL foundation. So, we are now worse off than we were before. Please be aware that there is a no return or refund policy with LfL.

We have wasted several hundred dollars.

I like this bed frame, but I don’t love this bed frame. I like this bed frame because it has that lift to where a full grown human can crawl underneath it, which means it’s great for under bed storage.

I bought storage bins as well to go underneath it, and it’s a perfect fit. So it’s taller than you would expect for sure. The reason I gave it 3 out of 5 stars was1. I’ve noticed a trend with Way-fair furniture that you get most of the right pieces, but not all the right pieces.

And this bed frame was no exception. I got screws whose threading didn’t line up, and essentially had to rig it in spots to make it work. 2. It needs more slats. Meaning, because it doesn’t have or need a box spring, your mattresses is chilling on the bed frame.

Which is great, until you realize the bed is sinking in spots. I fixed this by adding a thin piece of plywood on top of the slats to make it more stable.

I purchased this for support on a fold out sofa bed. I had to cut them down because they were bigger than the sofa mattress but that is not the fault of the product. I put this between the mattress that came with the bed and a 6 inch foam mattress on top of the boards.

Sooo comfortable and added great support. could not feel any of the bars of the fold out bed.

My puppy ripped the thin cloth covering my box spring and climbed inside it at 2 am so I needed something to stop that from happening again, hold up my mattress, and keep my puppy safe. This did the job! It fit perfect, arrived a day earlier than expected, is very affordable, and blocks my puppy from getting to the exposed part of the box spring.

I needed something to put on my metal frame platform bed under the memory foam mattress for sturdiness. The bars go width wise on my frame so i got these length wise wood slats. I tied them to the bars on either side so it doesn’t slide around.

My lower back feels better already.

I loved this! My bed frame broke the same day that I got it and I used this to add support to the frame until we can get new pieces. My bed feels completely different and I love it! It’s super sturdy and it was easy to assemble.

Purchased this because it was 1″ wider than all the others listed, needed the extra width to fit our older bedroom set. The dimensions were accurate and now we don’t have to deal with sliding bed slats!.

If your bed frame is 61″ or 62″ , this slats would be fine. My bed frame is 62″, the slats is 61″. I use screws to fix the slats. It is very sturdy. I gave 4 stars as the wood’s quality is not good as I expected.

But it is long enough to support my mattress very well.

This Bunkie Board worked out perfectly. I mistakenly thought it just folded in half, but it actually came rolled up. It was easy to add to the bedframe, and it gives the mattress without a box spring even coverage, so the mattress feels like it has a box spring under it.

It’s just lower. But my granddaughter likes it a lot.

Absolutely no problems with this price. I needed it because one of the wooden prices to the slats broke so I wanted to ensure that the bed wouldn’t sink so I purchased this to go OVER the existing slats.

It’s been over a year since I added this price and I have no problems whatsoever.
