20 Best Women’S Winter Hiking Pants (2023 Updated)

I am between sizes right now (4-6). I have a lot of leg and butt muscle and most hiking pants tend to bind in that area. I read the reviews and people said these run small and I figured, perfect! a larger sized 4 :).

So those are a bit short on me actually but that seems the norm in all these hiking pants. When not bloated, the waist is comfortable or a bit (comfortably) loose. If I’ve eaten a big meal, it’s tight on the belly but I can still move around without strain on the snaps.

The nice thing is the legs/hip/butt. These don’t sag in the crotch while binding in the butt and I can get my knee high enough without any tug that I know steep steps will be no problem. I can do front/side kicks without any binding.

I like that they roll into a shorter version and they are nicely water resistant. Since I won’t be eating a heavy meal before hiking, the waist should not be a problem. I honestly hike in yoga pants usually, but I bought these for chillier weather and when doing some off-trail snag-prone ‘bushwackin’.

But these might become my new go-tos. Colombia’s big miss here is the waist. They should have added a little elastic in one side and allowed for ladies “moon time” bloat. If your weight is heavy in legs, I recommend err on the side of 1up size.

If your heavy in the middle, thin in butt/thighs, these might not be ideal for you.

I have been trying out multiple hiking pants for a few years and finally found these which I love. I tried on multiple brands at the store and had issues with different pants’ waist being too baggy, the crotch seam length being absolutely tiny, or no room for muscular thighs.

These pants are the perfect fit. They have a little bit of stretch, great waistband, and a long enough crotch seam length that you don’t have a wedgie going down the trail. I find the material is very flattering (doesn’t make a ton of noise but is still thin for breathability) and mostly durable.

I’ve had them for over a year and have used them on many casual city walks, road trips, car camping trips, and backpacking trips. I’ve slid down granite in them accidentally but the only hole I put in them was from sitting on a log with a pointy branch (more of a fluke coincidence).

The length is perfect for me at 5’4″ when I have thick hiking shoes on (otherwise they do hit the ground) and the pockets fit my iphone 12 mini pretty well (it looks a little funny but it doesn’t infringe movement or feel like it’s going to fall out).

I wish Columbia would make these in black as I could then buy a pair for field work and city travel.

My third pair of these pants! Perfect for hot weather, or when needing quick-dry fabric, a bit of “give” to the pants, etc. My previous pair were purchased in “regular” length, and OK if wearing shoes/boots and/or if hems rolled up and secured with the hidden tabs, but a hair long for barefoot or thin sandals.

So THIS time, I ordered in “short”, and length is perfect. ;D Still long enough for boots/shoes and not too long for sandals/barefoot. The fabric is smooth and comfortable on the skin but seems durable enough for general hiking and camping, wading in creeks etc.

The dark charcoal gray color is ideal for multi-purpose use, not as “intense” as black, and a hint more “dressy” than tan. Perfect for outdoor entertainment venues, bird watching, hiking, travel, you name it! 😀 I purchased this, and previous pair a size up from previous pair, as I wanted something a bit less form-hugging for being in public areas, although there was adequate range of motion to smaller size due to stretch.

True to size if you like form-fitting.

Like many people, I was a huge fan of the original Cirque pants. I owned three pairs and hiked hundreds and hundreds of miles in them. A hole would appear, and I would patch it up. Another hole, another patch.

Anything I could do to keep them going. Finally, the end finally arrived for them. I purchased a couple pairs of Cirque II while my original Cirque pants still had some life in them. I just assumed they would fit like the original, so I didn’t even try them on until after the warranty period.

(My mistake, obviously. ) I wore a Large in the original, but the Large in the Cirque II was soooo large that I was cinching up the waistband as far as possible and hoping no one noticed how long the pant legs were.

As I said, past the warranty period, so I was stuck with pants that I really couldn’t wear. After checking several other possibilities at the local outdoor store, I decided to bite the bullet and buy the Cirque again, but this time in a Medium.

The leg length on the M is almost exactly that of the Cirque I Large, and the waist will work, assuming I don’t put on too many pounds. I’m not going to harp on the sizing issues of the Cirque II, since others have done so already, but it is kind of irksome that the sizing changed so drastically from I to II.

As for functionality, most of what I loved about the Cirque I still applies. It’s lighter weight, but still hefty enough for the brush I experience when hiking. Also appears to be thin enough that the pant will dry fairly quickly (important here in the wet Pacific Northwest).

My only gripe at this point is there is no back pocket. Loved being able to slide my phone in there with the Cirque I, and I don’t see the value in taking that way, other than maybe cost savings. Overall, I do recommend the pant.

However, I also recommend trying it on first, if you can.

I think as an “all around” pant, the Cirque II are great. I love them as a winter hiking and general mountaineering pant, in the NE. Pockets are good. Protection is good. Lots of flex to aid movement up steep and awkward trails.

Falls short with the inseam though. Just a bit too long to be “perfect”. Also good but not great for crampons and ice climbing. Too much fabric hanging out down there. Definitely need to wear gators if you are working a narrow pitch.

Not an issue so much if there is plenty of room for foot placement though. I have larger legs so the roomy fit through the seat and thigh more than makes up for the baggy fit by the ankles. I will also say that that volume by the ankles fills up rather quickly with double boots on, so it’s not always in the way.

I would give them 4. 5 stars actually (maybe 4. 75) and if you have a longer natural inseam (I’m usually a 30”) or are using them for more specific trades rather than “Jack of All”, you might find them a 5 star.

Again, the roomier fit for someone like me is refreshing in this day and age and I think makes up for the other minor issues.

I was an evangelist for the original Cirque pants. They were amazing. Truly almost faultless (slightly baggy below the knee, pockets are a bit small). I LOVE my pants and I thrashed them. Multiple week long back country alpine climbing trips, weekends camping and climbing, week nights in the gym.

They were my go to, and for a long time only, outdoor pants. Finally after 7 years of abuse, two small tears and a broken zip I decided to buy another pair. I wasn’t even going to look at what else was out there, the Cirque were my pants!! That is until I read a few reviews that all mentioned that the sizing had changed and the legs were now baggy.

And they were right. For some reason OR decided to turn a rock climbing/ice climbing/alpine pant baggy. Seriously?? Why?? No one doing these activities wants baggy pants, especially given the fabric is 4 way stretch.

OR had developed the perfect pant and now they’ve just killed it stone dead. RIP Cirque you were awesome while you lasted.

These pants are *almost* perfect. I’ve worn them climbing outside many times, through canyons, on planes and on everyday walks. The wear is so minimal, and they are constructed super well. The reason this isn’t a 5 star review is because I think the sizing is a little weird.

I’m tall and so to accommodate the length I need (they hit lower calf, not ankle on me) I felt the medium was perfect. New, it was a great size for me and it’s great after a wash. However they are stretchy- super appreciated for climbing and sitting, but the waistband has no way to tighten it, so I find myself constantly pulling them up after about 2 consecutive wears or a full day of walking and wear.

I wish there was a drawstring or ties so I could cinch the waist while retaining the baggier fit in the thigh. The only other thing I would change is the size of the pockets. My phone 11 pro max is too big for the back pockets, falls out of the front pockets when I sit down, and the side zipper pocket won’t close if it’s in there.

Besides those things, these are comfortable and much tougher than they look, and I’d still overlook those things to repurchase or even get a second pair if I couldn’t find something I liked more.

Huzzah! Absolutely love them. Bought a pair for every day. Very light. Not too tight and not too loose. Can wear a pair of thin long undies underneath for athletic pursuits in winter. Have a bit of water resistance to them.

Can wash and dry super quick and take up no room in the bag. Look good and stylish and I’ve worn for “dressed up” options – out to eat, work, etc. and for all outdoor pursuits – biking, hiking, yard work, x-country skiing, beach and possibly could wear running and in the water (I hope).

I wear them in temps from 50’s, to 80’s. Hoping I can wear them at the beach (90’s+, bc they offer sun protection) and in the water for kayaking or even jumping in vs slathering on sunscreen. Would love a nice lighter grayish and light bluish, and mauve colors (but don’t want any of them to be see through) for hotter temps, and maroon/ garnet red bc I just like that color.

Would also like to see zippers on all the pockets and the hand pockets a smidge bigger to hold a phone, along with the same pant but with a zipper option on the ankle to roll up for various purposes – wading or cooling off or ease of taking off over shoes if layered.

I’m 5’7” & 145 lbs (sometimes 150) and the medium is spot on. Well done Mountain Hardware and thanks REI for carrying these!.

I bought these pants on a whim and am so glad I did. I wanted something that was a bit warmer than my regular hiking pants yet didn’t want to carry anything heavy in my pack. The pants came along on an 8 day off-trail backpacking/field research trip.

Based on how comfortable they are and that the liner adds just a hint of extra warmth, I kept these pants for evenings when my hiking/work pants were wet from the rain. It was great to change into them and have a bit of extra warmth on cold nights.

They are also super easy to move around in. Kind of like leggings without the clingy look. When in my tent I could sit and move around easily without the pants binding or needing to be shifted as I changed my sitting/lying down positions.

These are definitely my end-of-day pants for any upcoming trips that promise to be chilly. As a matter of fact I think I am going to get another pair just to wear in my everyday life.

These pants are great! They fit well, and are a really nice balance between holding their shape and still having a decent amount of stretch for big step ups. Overall, just a really solid all around hiking pant that can be used in a lot of situations.

Fabric: The material is pretty light weight, but as noted in other reviews is not super breathable. They will work when it’s warm, but will be more comfortable in spring/fall. I also think they would work well for warm cross country skiing with a base layer.

They are thin enough that I did get mosquito bites through the fabric. They held up well when scrambling up talus fields, I didn’t have any abrasion or pulled fabric threads. The color is a bit of a lighter black, not a deep black.

They did hold up well in light rain and repelled water. They dried out well after the rain stopped, I didn’t feel like I was damp for the rest of my hike. For those that feel strongly about noise, they do have an audible swish when walking.

Not the worst I’ve heard, but it is noticeable. The pants wash well and look like new coming out – no residue from bug spray or mud. Fit: The pant length was good, reached the top of my shoes and protected against grasses, but didn’t drag on the ground (I would say I have average length legs for my height).

The pants lay smoothly, and didn’t feel overly tight in any area (no uncomfortable bunching or seams!). There’s a nice amount of stretch, and the pants overall fit comfortably. I did wear the pants around town before a hike, and they are pretty nondescript so depending on where you are might be doable for about town wear.

I was a bit nervous about the belt, but it wasn’t restrictive and didn’t cut into my stomach at all. It seems to hold it’s spot pretty well and hasn’t loosened up over the miles. The pocket locations are great, I really like lower thigh pocket on the one side – it’s perfect for a phone.

Activity: I find myself reaching for these pants for a lot of different trips. Backing? They worked great and held up multiple days. Scrambling? Held up really well on talus and rough rock. Potential rain/light snow? They will repel small amounts of water and won’t keep you damp.

They aren’t ideal for full sun on a really hot day as you will feel the warmth trapped in the pants, but it’s manageable. I can’t think of any physical environment that these pants wouldn’t be able to handle, and you could even do some light running on a hike if you need to get off a summit fast.

Summary: I would recommend these pants for all around hiking. They’re a great option to throw in your bag when you have variable conditions. They’re comfortable and wear well over multiple days, with no signs of wear after a few months of use.

I am on my third pair of Gamma pants, not because they have gotten worn out in anyway, but because I love them so much for cooler and cold season hiking. I first purchased two pairs onsale, two years ago, and they are near good as new.

I figured I would want two pairs of hiking pants (light grey and black) for when I am doing multiple day hikes in a row and can’t keep up with laundry. I was dreaming of getting some kind of other color and oscillated on the Jupiter color.

I couldn’t get a good sense of the shade on my computer screen, but figured, what the heck. they are arc’teryx so they are likely awesome and if not, I would return them. I have to say that if the color pinkish/purple-ish/brownish were a neutral, this would be it.

The color is like a fairly deep wine, and really plays like a fun neutral. It looks stunning with black, and I love it with grays and blues and orange. But let’s be real. Functionality needs to be there, and these pants continue to have it.

I am not one who runs cold. I have done some really cold hikes (in the teens) and snowshoing and just wore a pair of thin polyester long johns underneath and was snug as a bug in a rug. The DWR on the pants means snow does not stick and melt or clump up.

These pants BREATH, but not overly so. so on cooler shoulder season hikes, they are fantastic. The cuff synch as seen in the video is sturdy and holds the bottom of the pant leg below to knee so your legs can breath a little.

After 2 years of wear in my original pairs, they are still in perfect shape (fingers crossed). And they stay put, but are easy to release. Ok so women’s pants with pockets! These pants have got it two hip pockets and an ample yet sleek thigh pocket perfect for an easy access cell phone for taking photos, etc.

Waist band belt is perfect and never any chafing with a backpacking pack. Did I mention “durable”? I think I did, but case in point, I have done some pretty technical rock scrambled, lobbing over logs, etc.

Not a single pull in the fabric. Lastly, I am a 4-6 size in pants and I went with a 6 reg. They have just enough extra room. I haven’t tried on the 4. I am 5’3″ 130lbs athletic. These pants are a BUY BUY BUY! Trust me, they are worth it :).

Awesome, stylish, and protective pants! The Gamma LT pants are the pants that truly define quality! That is why I like these pants very much My experience: The color of my pants are black Sapphire. They are very eye catching and very in tune with nature! The material is very durable, including all the zippers.

The belt is also a nice addition for a better fit. I truly appreciate the 2 hand pockets, specially the zippered thigh pocket for securing important items. The laminated cuffs with the adjustable draw cords are also a nice addition.

The outdoor experience: These pants are very comfortable! They felt very nice specially after taking them out for a 3 hour intense hike with changing conditions, from warm and Sunny, to a very cool and windy day.

They did a fantastic job blocking the wind! I felt very protected wearing them. They are not waterproof, however they are excellent at repelling the water and will keep you dry! My suggestion: It is important to note that these pants do have a more relaxed fit to them.

For some that prefer to wear a thermal layer underneath for cooler day hikes, it maybe a good idea to size up! Summary: Arc’teryx did an amazing job with the Gamma LT pants! They are a fantastic all around versatile pant for most outdoor adventures, and durable enough for many years of use!.

I typically wear a size S in pants but found these to be a tad too tight around the waist because they are not high-rise. I feel that for athletic pants it is more comfortable and supportive to have high-waisted designs.

The pocket on the right side of the pants digs in (not in a painful way) and therefore looks unappealing. However, this may be be an issue just for my body type. The material itself is amazing. Very stretchy but does not lose its fit.

Good amount of space for hiking boots around the ankle. Pockets lined with mesh for breathability and strong zippers. They are super light and water repellent.

Was looking for something a bit heavier weight material for dog walks along snowy trails in Edmonton winters. I like the weight of the material, and the quality of the pant. Overall, the fit is great.

BUT, as others have pointed out, the waist size is at least one size too small. And the snap closure at the waist is very loose and weak, so they come open every time I sit down. Not entirely due to Pandemic Padding, as I have not had that problem with pants of the same size from different suppliers (Arcteryx, Icebreaker).

Probably THE most comfortable and well-fitted walking trousers I have found in a very long time. Mild ‘swooshing’ sound of the fabric – which is usually annoying – is a small price to pay for how fabulous they feel.

Plenty of freedom of movement in all directions. Didn’t come up quite as long as I was anticipating from the size guide, so went for my usual ‘regular’ length. Lightweight, cool, and splash resistant – so good for summer wear or winter layering.

Wash well and dry quickly. Will definitely want to buy again!.

I have two pairs of Scree pants that I bought about 3 years ago and I absolutely love them. I saw that these were on a steep discount so I decided to buy another pair w/out reading any of the reviews.

What a mistake. Marmot has effectively ruined what was a fantastic product by introducing unnecessary changes. The three worst changes are: – There was a zip pocket along the outside of the right leg on the previous scree model, and now that pocket is in the front of the left leg.

It’s quite possibly the worst pocket placement I’ve ever seen in a pair of pants and it renders the pocket completely useless. You literally could not put anything in that pocket without it bulging a few inches above your knee.

Aesthetics aside, it is also terribly uncomfortable to have anything at all in that pocket. It is quite literally useless. – There was a zippered back pocket on the right side in the previous model and they have decided to remove that.

Why, I have no idea. Cost savings I guess, but I use that back pocket all time on my other scree pants. Huge disappointment. – The bottom/cuffs used to be zippered and that has also changed. There is a drawstring on the model that apparently allows you to tighten the cuff, but I routinely unzipped my cuffs an inch or two on these pants to allow them to fit over boots.

Again, cost cutting at the expense of the consumer. – The Marmot name was embroidered/stitched in a thick fabric on the old model and on the new model that has been replaced with a heat stamp. It makes the pants look pretty cheap.

I have some other (less expensive) Marmot items with heat stamps and they ALWAYS start to peel away within a year or so. I expect that will happen with these pants too, making them look like a complete mess.

All in all these pants went from being one of my favorite fall/winter pants to being something I’ll only use to walk the dogs with. Totally disappointed with this new model of pants. It seems that the reasons behind the changes were to cut costs since these changes do not benefit the consumer at all.

I have loved Marmot over the past decade but repeated experiences like this lately have left me feeling pretty upset. It’s unfortunate.

I have bought scree pants for the past 8 years I’m guessing. My very first pair I thought of maybe the perfect pants. I wore them everywhere. They were perfect for winter and they were perfect for summer.

I never figured out how they could offer great installation in the winter but also remain cool in the summer but they did. Not only that they looked great and could easily pass off as a nice set of dress pants when new and if I could have ever found a way to hide the logo.

As it was they quickly became my favorite pants ever and later I ordered more pairs over the years noting that there were changes to the design throughout those years. I recently picked up a new set of spray pants I don’t know the exact here but I’m guessing either 2019 or 2020 version.

It’s been a couple of years since I purchased my last pairs and I can tell you that this version doesn’t stack up. They’ve used a different material that is a lot thinner. I will not consider wearing these for doing any outside activities during the winter now.

It is much too thin though it is clearly still durable, it’s just not going to offer the same insulation properties of past seasons. That’s my primary complaint. A few smaller complaints are that they’ve removed the back wallet pocket.

I’m not sure why this was done but they need to return it. Further the used to make these with a more elastic waistband. They’ve essentially gotten rid of that and it’s nice from the perspective that it makes these pants look like a more sophisticated dress pant, but my primary use for these are outdoor activities and so while it’s nice to have these pants look nice, that’s not their primary use or function.

In shortif these pants remain the same as they are today I will not be purchasing any more of these in the future. They still have the same great fit and the same great comfort but with these changes they have made them far less useful and versatile.

I have bought many pairs of Scree pants. They have always rocked. The pairs I’ve had have always been put to the test and have never failed. However, the pairs I have come to love were all the previous version.

This new version is nowhere near the quality of its predecessor. These are poorly designed, baggy and not as sleek looking. I miss the side cargo pocket location, the zippered butt pocket, and the zippered ankles.

The design used to be so good! My new pair have begun to fall apart after a couple months whereas I have pairs of the previous version that are almost 5 years old with upwards of 1000+ days of wear that still look new.

Bring back the old design and add a cell phone pocket on the left leg and you’ll have a lifelong customer. Until then, You find me buying up whatever old stock of the previous version I can find on eBay.

I originally found these pants on sale through another retailer but in the wrong size. Despite them being too small, I loved them so much I was determined to find them in the correct size, even if full price.

They sit pretty high and are snug around the waist and bum, hence why I sized up. But they are a great length, really lightweight, and comfortable. The zips at the bottom are great for slipping them on/off over boots.

I haven’t had a chance to really exert myself in them yet, so can’t speak to breathability.

I love these hiking/camping trousers. They are so versatile for turning them into shorts when the sun comes out and great for when it rains you can zip them back on (and they are colour coded). Very breathable and they come with a built-in belt! They are hardy and won’t fail you.

until you put on a few extra pounds! Like my title says, they are not stretchy which I find quite important now I have a pair of North Face stretchy ones. The stretchy ones are super comfortable, kinda like leggings for men, and great for unexpected climbs during hikes.

These are the second pair of these pants I have bought. the first ones were purchased in 2015 and were getting a bit old so I bought these ones. The material is a bit more flexible than the previous version and they are bit shorter (perfect for me as I am 5’6” and the Small is perfect).

I use them almost everyday while walking my dog. They are wind resistant so I just need to wear a pair of jogging pants under even in the winter and I don’t get cold. Overall a great pair of pants if you are looking to something that is wind / water resistant.

I was so excited to try out these pants to have something warm and cozy to hike in. But I had a few frustrations – First, I had to exchange them and try 2 other sizes because they run very large. I usually wear a medium but this item felt like an XL.

I ended up taking a Small. Second – I was hoping for some regular pockets on the front to put my hands into if I wanted but there were not any; only a small pocket at lower thigh. The waist rise also comes up a bit taller than I like but these pants & size keep it comfortable to deal with.

And lastly, the BIGGEST issue I have is that the interior fleece pills off very easily and is very frustrating to find the pill balls on my socks, on my house floor, (down my underwear even!) and will probably be a mess once I finally wash these.

To have to pick them off my socks or vacuum an extra time in house is quite the chore! I’m sure the pill balls in my laundry won’t be fun to deal with either! I would like to return these expensive pants yet I’m in need of a ‘winter’ pair of hiking pants at the moment.

I would not recommend these pants at all.

I tried these pants on in my local Orvis store. On the plus side, they were warm and I liked the durable fabric, but they were too short for me. I agree with the other reviewer. Orvis needs to offer customers the choice of different inseams – regular, medium tall, and tall.

I LOVE Orvis sweaters and shirts, but I struggle with Orvis pants because they are often too short and too tight. Overall, I think you will really like these pants if the 30 inch inseam works for you.

I didn’t work for me.

This is the best purchase I’ve made in a long time. I am trying to avoid going in to the gym right now, due to covid, so I walk outside a lot. On super cold days, even when I wore my warmest pants, my legs would get cold, and stay cold for hours after I got home.

With these pants, the wind does not go through them at all. I got caught in freezing rain the other day, and the moisture did not get through the pants. And they’re super soft inside too. And they look nice, so I can wear them out to run an errand as well.

I went up a size because OR cotton shrinks a lot but they were a snug fit. I might go two sizes up next time because they really shrunk a lot after the first wash. They still fit but are much shorter than when they arrived.

The flannel lining is super cute pattern that matches their shirt flannel. I love it! Very soft lining too. They are a very warm pant so they are great for cold conditions but obviously become uncomfortable once the car heater is on.

Probably will get myself another pair.

These are incredibly comfortable, sturdy, and well constructed and are quickly becoming my favorite winter pants. I’m petite 5’3″ 115 lbs and found that while the size 2 fit me well around the waist/hips, they were waaay too long and baggier than I would prefer.

I liked the look and feel of them so much (and flannel lined women’s pants are so hard to come by) that I ended up getting them hemmed and tapered by a tailor. In my eyes it was worth the extra time and money because the quality is clearly so high that I know I’ll be wearing them for years.

These are a good mid-season field pant. I’ve worn them several times in rainy, snowy, cold conditions and they continue to perform well. They fit pretty good, I’m a little short so they are kind of long, somewhat baggy -but tolerable.

Nice quality but they were too big so had to return, my fault as ordered the bigger size because I don’t like things tight, but should have stuck to normal size.

Effective waterproof comfortable trousers. Being able to buy in a short length makes the fit more stylish and comfortable

These run small and are for very skinny and tall people. I returned them , I don’t think any size would ever fit. I did not try another size.

So far, these are great pants. I have worn them twice, both times it was around +5C and I was perfectly comfy. There will be room for a base layer under them as the weather gets colder as well. Overall they fit well and look great.

Whilst providing great protection against wind and rain these pants also give freedom of movement. Just what I need on my hiking tours. The lower legs are a bit wide but does not effect comfort.

These are so cute on – very flattering and an awesome lightweight fabric! Would be great with sneakers or birks – definitely cute enough to wear out and about (not just hiking or lounging)! Buying my second pair.

Great lightweight pants, huge fan of the waist fit. I am 5’1, 100 lbs, and my only complaint is the pants are too long in the smallest size. Wish there was a shorter inseam so they fit better around the calf, but otherwise, my fave pants.

Love these. Most comfortable pants ever. Not very fashionable but light weight and easy to clean. Like wearing pjs all day

I moved to the mountains last winter and never found lined hiking pants that I really liked. I tried these on at REI and bought them immediately. They’ve been perfect. I decided to buy another pair. When I came to this site to order I saw all of the negative comments about the snap closure.

I ordered them anyway and then wore them in the house with the tags on for a number of hours to make sure the snap worked. I did! I now have 2 pairs of hiking pants that I love! They are wind resistant, snow resistant, warm, and soft.

I wear them almost every day and love them.

I walk my dog in Colorado – early am/late pm and I love the way these pants keep me warm. They are lined, warm, and provide wind protection. The jean/trouser fit is great. Many pants make you look like an Oompa Loompa like my snow pants.

These are a little pricy but I feel they will be used a ton this year and in the future. I consider this an investment in my health because I walk so much more! I’m 5’8″ and weigh160 pounds. I bought a 12 and they are perfect.

Long length too which may be an issue if you are shorter, not sure.

I love this pants for hiking and backpacking in colder areas. The pants are soft out/inside, keep me warm without wearing a baselayer underneath. The pants are form fitting and repels water. I have no issues with discomfort when hiking, bouldering or backpacking.

I wear them around town too on those chilly days. I hope Kuhl makes them in different colors.

Purchased at 12 and 14 size of these trousers to help with mine and my friends lockdown lovehandles. The trousers fit well (I’m and apple shape and my friend a pear shape) the length is perfect (I’m 5ft.

6inch). I wear them every day for walking , the material is soft and the loose fit gives me flexibility i need for walking over various terrains. I love the purple and teal colours, very vibrant. Much more enjoyable to wear than beige or grey.

I frequently get dirt on the trousers which wipes off when dry or comes out in the wash with no discolouring yet. The pockets come with ties on the zips which makes opening them easy but they are discrete unlike other walking trousers I own.

Love these trousers. Lightweight enough for summer walking, comfortable and water repellant enough to keep my legs dry whilst trudging around in the West Yorkshire Pennines in the rain this week. My only gripe – the fit on these is not perfect for me as they have a slight ‘saddle bag’ allowance in the thigh, ie there is room for women who accumulate their weight on their outer thighs.

On me this means the trousers are a baggy fit in that area. Otherwise very happy. Agree with other reviewers on the internet that these are a generous fit and I might be wishing I got a smaller size if I lose a couple of kilos (as hoping to do).

I’m really pleased with my Craghoppers Kiwi Pro stretch trousers in grey. Super value for money. Very comfortable, lightweight & practical for walking. Better for warmer weather. I have the heavier weight in black for winter.

I bought in the longer length as I have 33″ leg & they fit perfectly. Recommended.

To be fair, I’m comparing these against another brand that I loved & that’s no longer available. The length of the petite is good, but I find the waist is too large, even given that it’s not a true waist & sits lower (which is not my preference).

I like the pocket placements, but I find that the side leg pocket allows my smaller smartphone to turn sideways, which makes it harder to retrieve. The back pocket works ok for the phone. I find the two snaps to be annoying.

One would be easier. I think the leg bottoms are cut a bit too wide, but again, that may just be my personal preference. The wrinkles don’t seem to fall out of these very easily, and I think some corners have been cut to reduce the cost.

For instance, the waist band lining is comfortable, but I’m not sure it’s going to wear well. I wore two pair over the course of 2 weeks of hiking in various conditions, and they worked fine, they just aren’t as good as the other two pair that I love.

For years I have bought only the Comfort Trail Pants for hot summers, but for the first time this year I bought these Vista Trekking Pants because of the prettier colors. The two styles both work great for hot temps, super breathable, and they dry equally well around splashes of water.

They fit about the same (although the Vista pants don’t have the adjustable waist tabs like the Comfort Trail Pants do). The Vista pants are lighter and silkier (and quieter), but that means when you put a phone in one of the pockets, the pants sag down slightly off the waist on that side.

They launder well, no wrinkles. Overall I think I prefer my old Comfort Trail pants because of the sturdier fabric, and because I can order those in Medium Tall, whereas these Vista pants only come in one Regular length and are short on me; I may have to convert them to capris using the bottom roll tabs included for the capri option.

These pants were exactly what I wanted. The pants are good-quality. They are roomy in the legs for hiking, but do not look baggy, and they have an attractive fit-the bottom hems do not have that unattractive flare that some pants have.

The material is lightweight and very comfortable for hot days, but not cheap. There are 2 zip pockets in the back and 2 zip cargo pockets in the front, in addition to 2 pockets at the waist. Some people have complained that their phone doesn’t fit in the cargo pockets.

My iPhone SE fits easily. so judge by that. They do run a little large in the waist and there is a bit of stretch in the material. I’ve recently lost weight and ordered a size down. I’m glad I did, as the 14 still had some room, so if you are on the small end of a size, you might want to order a size down.

Quality technical pants as usual Montane. The softshell fabric is thick, so it is quite resistant. Despite this, it is quite comfortable. It has a tight cut but not very tight. I find it somewhat cold in the part of the culera and I should have some additional protection.

In any case, although it is a winter pants, it is not excessively warm and should be combined with an indoor one for low temperatures (0-5ºC). The waist could also be elastic for a better fit. Overall, it is good pants but not perfect.

These are great trousers for the man who has actual muscles on your legs and your able to get them over your hips. My advice though is to use them in the autumn/Winter as they are a little thicker than summer pants, great trousers though with plenty of pockets.

I am 168 a 75kg. S size fit me great. Maybe 2-3 cm to long so someone who is little bit toler can wear it Tried it on snow cold weather and they are perfect!

If you’re looking for a ultralightweight hiking / travel pant look no further. these are it!! These pants are a real game changer. The fabric of course is extremely light and airy and at 108gsm it is one of the lightest materials available on the market.

They are also durable and rugged for how light they are and I expect them to last for many years and through many adventures. My use case for these is spring, summer, and fall hiking for when I want pants not shorts, as well as for flights / traveling / backpacking and for both scenarios I can say they are the best pants I’ve found to date.

The incredible lightness + 4 zip pockets is what really sets these a part but absolutely worth noting the fit and cut are excellent (6’3 34w wearing size L). The pants are really well thought out and comfortable and after hours of looking and trying several others (worn Silver Ridges for years) these are a clear winner for me, especially with the more modern slim fit that these pants have.

They weigh basically nothing and pack down smaller than a cotton t-shirt. They dry so fast they’re essentially ready to wear straight out of the washing machine. Note these do have some stretch, but they are not overly stretchy so these are not a serious climbing or workout pant.

While I think these are the new market leader in ultralight pants a few things for Rab to consider for the future. The cumin color is great and very wearable but would like to see more color options in the future.

Would also like a version of these with a full micromesh venting strip down the sides of the legs to cement the ultralight hiking / travel pant crown (like some of the nike dri-fit pants with similar fabric weight do).

I know Rab have tried / offer on other pants but I do wonder if these could use an internal draw cord, I suppose it was decided against to give people the lightest possible option and simply let people use their own belt if needed.

Finally an internal key / car pocket on the inner waist band would be good (something discrete where you can zip or fold your keys or cards away for the day and know that they’ve not gone anywhere regardless of where you’ve put your hands etc).

Overall if you’re looking for superlight pants for traveling / hiking, that look good, are comfy, and have secure zip pockets, then you won’t regret making the purchase. Rab have done an amazing job with these and I look forward to enjoying mine for years to come.

The Incline AS are a very poor replacement for the Vectors Having purchased 2 pairs of the previous Vectors, used in all sorts of environments I think I have a good idea as to what these new Incline AS are all about.

The Vectors were excellent I mean really, really excellent and ideal for my lifestyle including general mountaineering. Up against their main competitor the Mountain Equipment Ibex, of which I also have a pair, they were far superior.

So let’s compare and contrast the old Vectors with the new incline AS. 1. Material – The fabric used in the Vectors are much heavier weight and much much more stretchy. The material used in Incline AS is much lighter has less stretch and feels very similar to the inferior MS Ibex.

In the Vector, the material in the pockets are made from the the same material as the rest of the trouser. In the Incline AS, the material is made from an inferior lightweight mesh. In practical use there is much less freedom of movement and the stretchiness of the old Vectors means it does not get so caught up on things.

The Vectors have stood up too much use and abuse and show no significant wear or damage. The fabric in the Incline, while it’s too early to say whether they are more or less durable, it certainly feel less durable.

The fabric on the legs are starting to ball up. 2. Features – Belt – The belt in the Vectors is easy to connect does not get lost in the wash (most of the time) and fits well around my waste. In the Incline AS it has a hook thing, while that feature hasn’t presented any significant issues compared to the Vectors it is still a little awkward to connect if there is still tension on the belt.

So far the belt hasn’t gotten lost in the wash. On the incline there is not enough support for the belt at the front, it needs the belts loops closer together. The Vector is perfect in this regard. Pockets – The right amount of pockets and in a useful position in both the Vectors and Incline AS.

When rock climbing the harness sits above the hip pocket allowing good access. The vectors had a section of the hip pocket partitioned off for somewhere to put your mobile phone to stop it falling sideways in the pocket.

THIS IS THE SINGLE MOST IRRITATING THING ABOUT THE INCLINE AS. THAT POCKET IS NOW GONE!! The elimination of this feature means that your phone is in the way when climbing and the feel and look of the pocket changes when the phone is sideways; it just looks silly.

In the Vectors your phone was previously really easy to access to take photos while climbing. Hem – In the Vectors there were 2 press studs to allow you to adjust the hem, very useful and worked brilliantly taking advantage of loads of stretch in the fabric; you really could get it tight around the boot.

You could walk through muddy bogs and remain dry. In the Incline AS you have an extra press stud. I suspect this is because the new material is less stretchy and you need that extra stud to make sure its tight around you boot.

In the Vector, RAB has taken and excellent design, a really excellent product and have messed it up! The Incline AS Is inferior in almost every way. It’s more expensive than the Vector but I’m sure less expensive to make.

If you are new to the Incline AS I’m sure they will do an adequate job, but it’s best to know what they could have been. RAB, please think again.

Of note I’ve only worn these a couple of times but I used the prior version (RAB Vector- which I consider near perfect hiking pant), over several seasons and many miles of hiking. Just like the Vector, the incline has great pockets, all with sturdy zippers.

The pants are a bit morestretchy and have a bit more of a trim fit compared to the prior version. The RAB website notes that the inclines has “strengthened construction “ compared to the Vector. It’s too early to comment but I thought the Vectors were quite durable given their lightweight.

The material of the Incline seems, if anything, a bit thinner so we’ll see. The old version was surprisingly windproof/ water resistant making the a good 3 season (maybe even 4 season with a light gortex shell).

These Inclines certainly held up well on a recent hike in dry but windy 30 degree weather. So far so good.
