20 Best Women’S Daypack For Hiking (2023 Updated)

I own a Sirrus 36 and in need of a new smaller pack as my old non-Osprey pack started to give me back and shoulder pain now that I’m getting older lol I was hesitant to buy this new Tempest at first after reading lots of reviews about the issue with hydration bladder compatibility.

Yet, I decided to go for it anyway as my husband has an older Telon 22, which isn’t much different in size, and he has never had any issues with it. I’m 5’6” & 130 lbs and the M/L size fits great on my back.

I haven’t used it on longer hikes (6hrs+) yet, but I can see myself carrying this pack all day and still feel great. I also love that it comes with the external reservoir sleeve (something I wish my Sirrus had) as it allows more space in the main compartment.

The reservoir sleeve is compatible with my 1. 5-2L HydroPack soft bladder, but it’s much easier to insert when using the Osprey bladder as the Osprey one comes with a backerplate. My 3L Osprey (when full) fits well inside the sleeve – no struggles, just need to properly adjust the two straps near the sleeve before inserting it.

The hip belt also fits my iPhone 11 and that’s all I need for easy access to my phone camera and map. However, too bad I didn’t find the “easy-access” expandable stretch mesh pocket on the left shoulder strap to be easy or useful for phone storage.

Overall great pack, great buy! All-time favorite!.

Originally, I bought an Ariel 65, but realized that pack is overkill for someone that is only 5’3 and 100lbs. I’m not going to carry that much weight at any given time. Then I bought an Aura AG 50, which is smaller capacity, but the sizing was strange and the hip belts felt stiff.

The Tempest 40 seems carry almost the same amount of items as those other bag and can handle my somewhat bulkier sleeping bag due to the opening in bottom being much larger than the pre-mentioned bags.

The Tempest straps aren’t as heavily pads as the others, but it’s a very comfortable bag. Just for reference, I bought the M/L due to having a 17” inch torso and even though I’m very thin, the hip belts adjusted perfectly to my small waist.

The other two bags limiting in this aspect. The Aura fit great to my torso, but had a huge hip belt that I couldn’t use. So if you like comfortable, reasonable sized, packs that accommodate longer torsos (especially if you are thin with a longer torso), this might be the perfect bag for you.

I love it and plan on taking it on an extended backpacking trip in California later this year. Also, I’m excited to see if this bag might pass as a carry-on since it’s only 40L.

I got my Osprey Tempest 20 in 2020 as a brand new hiker. I had no idea what I needed and ultimately just went with something that had some good reviews and felt ok at the store. 2 years later and I am still in love with this backpack for all of my dayhiking trips.

Whether its full to brim with all I need including water, snacks, first aid, jacket, and more or mostly empty with just a little water and a light jacket in case I get cold – it is always comfortable to wear.

I am surprised to read so many negative reviews about the water reservoir section. Maybe its because I got the Osprey hydraulic reservoir so its made to fit Osprey bags, but I fit my 2 liter in full of water just fine (no more awkwardly then loading a full reservoir into any other hiking backpack I’ve seen or used).

All in all, I love this bag. It has served me as a total newbie and grown with me as both my hikes (and my needs) have changed. p. s. if you are a new hiker, I highly recommend having someone at REI or a local outfitter help you adjust the straps the first time and teach you.

This backpack can be adjusted to lots of heights and overall fits but may be difficult to do if you’ve never done it on your own before.

I bought this pack for long day hikes, and I’m very pleased with it! I got it to use instead of a school/office/laptop backpack. I was surprised at how much better it works for hiking! The key is that it has a waist strap that takes weight off of your shoulders and puts it on your hips instead, so you can go farther without your shoulders getting sore.

I have a 30″ waist and I can still get a good fit with the waist strap. It’s very adjustable so that it fits well and feels stable even when climbing up boulders with a full pack. It’s comfortable even after a long day on the trail – my feet get sore before my shoulders do.

The back panel allows for good air circulation so my back doesn’t get all sweaty. It feels very well constructed and durable. This will fit everything I need to go 18+ miles in a day. A typical load for me is 5 liters of water in bottles, a lunch bag, snacks, a small camera bag, and extra layers of clothes.

The outside loops for trekking poles and sunglasses are also useful. I like the side pouches for water bottles, but when I’m using both, it makes the bottom of the pack feel a bit narrow. I haven’t had issues fitting all my things in, but it feels taller than it does wide.

The front pouch expands and is great for carrying layers. For travelling, the back water bladder section can also fit a 15. 6″ laptop snugly. It will fit under a seat on an airplane if not packed too full.

I would definitely buy this pack again, but if I had to get a new one, I would probably get one with the water bladder included because carrying lots of water bottles can feel bulky at times. The only part I don’t like is the top handle because it’s thin.

If it was twice as thick it would make it easier to use. Also, it would be great if it included a luggage tag, because I don’t want to lose it! I would definitely recommend this pack and Gregory as a brand!.

FIT This pack has been great for day hikes and even trail running when I need to pack more. Even when running, this pack can cinch down so there is very little bounce. The waist belt is ultra secure and comfortable.

This is one of the few small day-sized packs I’ve seen with adjustable shoulder strap heights with velcro and I think it really improves the overall fit. FEATURES The zipper loops are easy to grab even with gloves on and I like the quick-stuff exterior pocket for jackets.

The ice ax/trekking pole loops are handy. The two side pockets for water bottles/bear spray are reachable without taking your pack off (yay!). ONLY SLIGHT NEGATIVES The only reasons I give this pack a 4 star rather than a 5 (and really it’s more of a 4.

5) is that the waist pockets are too small to hold modern giant cell phones and I can’t seem to find an easily accessible option for it and the emergency whistle on the front clasp is relatively quiet.

The other reason is I (just aesthetically) did not like the grey and teal color options and wished there was a high-vis or more reflective option.

I bought this to replace a cheap hydration pack I bought years ago on Amazon. I’ve only taken it out once so far, and it was great! I like the teal color and the pops of yellow-green (I tend to like bright colors).

More importantly, it had a great fit! The adjustments were intuitive, and I barely noticed the 3L Gregory bladder I used. I don’t like that I had to buy the bladder separately, but that’s a minor complaint.

Gregory bladders snap in place; there may be compatibility issues with other bladders. This pack has plenty of storage for a day hike. I easily fit a rain jacket, hat, phone, keys, wallet, and bug spray.

I like the smaller pocket at the top and the stretchy pocket at the rear for organization. My iPhone easily fit in the hip pockets. Larger phones might be a tight fit. The hip pockets were a little far back for me, but still reachable.

May or may not be an issue depending on body type (this pack also comes in plus size). I couldn’t get larger water bottles in the side pockets, but I suspect user error since nobody else seems to have that problem.

This was the best ventilated pack at my local REI, but my back still got sweaty. I think I just need to accept that my back will always be sweaty here in the famously hot and humid American Southeast.

Overall, I’m very happy with my purchase!.

First time I ever bought a technical pack specifically for hiking and apparently, I picked a good one. I’ve always used Camelbaks, and while I’ve integrated some of their features into my Mira, namely the hydrolock (as I can disconnect the mouthpiece and plug my filter in without having to open the reservoir compartment, plus the cover stays on better), and the magnetic tube trap (I prefer my mouthpiece stowed on the shoulder strap, and Osprey’s doesn’t stay put in that position).

I did buy one of Osprey’s 3l bladders and an insulation kit for it, and that thing is amazing at keeping my water cool, none of that initial hot shot of water as I pull a drink. I did remove the belt and sternum strap as I dislike those.

Even without them, it fits me like a glove, and the load is very stable and off my back, yet not pulling me backwards. The straps on the shoulder straps are nice for my compass pouch, and while I thought them being angled was going to be a nuisance, it actually helped make a cross-body reach for it feel more ergonomic.

I haven’t had it out in rain yet, so I can’t speak yet to its rain cover’s water resitance and utility, though I bag everything anyway. I don’t use trekking poles and don’t plan to ever use the stow loop on the shoulder strap, but I also don’t see any way to remove it without cutting it off, so I guess it’s staying on so I don’t void the warranty.

The little pockets on the hip belt are SO useful, I see now why people love them. Others say it’s heavy but I guess I’m just used to heavy packs, which I guess is par for buying cheap ones so far. I carried this on a couple of long dayhikes, one 7 hours and the other 13 hours.

I can only think of two downfalls. First, the zippers sometimes snag, especially the hip pockets, I find myself having adopted a two-hand cross-body technique just to close them. Second, I’ve just always been nervous about mesh pockets, they always feel like I’ll break them.

Bought this for resort skiing in Winter Park. It worked great though I opted not to use the hydration pack since I couldn’t get an insulating sleeve for the hose AND the bite valve. It’s a little thick for resort skiing especially if you put large Gatoraid bottles in it(they push you way forward on the chairs) otherwise it worked flawlessly.

The day we went they hydration pack would probably have been fine since it was around 30 but I didn’t want to cary 2. 5 liters of water if I couldn’t drink it due to a frozen valve. Plan to use this for day hikes and mountain biking, maybe commuting but there’s not a great place for a laptop, it’ll fit in the main compartment but isn’t padded, would also fit in the hydration compartment but wouldn’t trust the electronics with the water in case of leak.

There is also a reflective strip on the back that you could attach a bike light for even more visibility. Love the Sunglasses compartment and the side zipper compartment with a pouch. The Trampoline back is great too.

I do wish there was a small sleeve on the shoulder straps for holding sunglasses (or reading glasses in my case 🙂 and it even fit a pair of goggles) with easier access, but very happy with the pack overall.

I like the disconnect tube so you can remove the bladder w/out having to unthread the mouth piece and tube. but it isn’c clear how you are suppose to clean the tube attached to the bladder as you can’t get a tube cleaner dow thru the attachment without pulling out the inserts at either end.

Flushing with hot water would be the only option and not sure how well it’ll dry. I think though, this is an oversite flaw with almost every maker of hydration bottles, they never consider the ease of cleanup and mold prevention especially with the mouth pieces (at least those with valves).

This is my favorite mid-size pack. I’ve taken it on a couple 8-12 mile hikes and it’s absolutely fantastic. For me, the fit and comfort are unmatched. I’ve loaded it with close to 8 liters of water (for testing) and the overall sensation was just “pressure”.

There were no hot spots or zones of discomfort. The ‘trampoline’ style mesh dispersed the weight incredibly well. I couldn’t believe I had all that water in there (plus some loose articles of clothing).

Beyond the amazing fit/comfort the pack has some great features including the elastic/magnetic sternum strap. I really liked this as the elastic allowed some stretch as well as the magnetic clip being very quick to attach/unattach.

The attachment is a latch and isn’t a fastex type buckle. It’s really nice as it automatically hooks in with the help of the magnet. It has a very usable ‘main’ compartment that’s great for holding larger items.

The personal compartment is somewhat small but it can easily carry keys, wallet and maybe some other loose kit. The the exterior pocket at the top is pretty meager. This is the biggest distractor is how small the top zipper external pocket is.

I feel it’s good for carrying 1 cliff bar or a role of quarters. The side “nalgene bottle” pockets are interesting as they’re exposed on the sides as well as the top. Overall the dimensions are mostly good and nothing is a deal breaker but I would’ve liked different sizes/volumes on some of the zippered pockets.

Another feature I love is the addition of trekking pole loops. I’m a huge fan of these as it’s so much faster to be able to stow them under my arm than to have to take my pack off and cinch them down on the very back of the pack as what you see on other designs.

The great thing is that there’s an elastic attachment that’s there for single pole or an axe. The pack is really versatile. There are a few other great amenities like having including a hydration bladder (2.

5L) and a rain cover. The hip pads are also great. They’re actually functional in helping carry the weight. The pockets are not too small and easily carry a couple of energy bars as well as M&M’s/jerky/etc.

It’s 24L so it’s not small but there’s no requirement to load it to the max. I’ve used this on several hikes and it’s my go-to pack. It’s INSANELY comfortable (for me) and the features are really useful and well-thought out.

I had the opportunity to try out this backpack recently and it worked extremely well. Being xs/s it is only 52L not 55L that I wanted but held everything for 4 days. It is well made and should be long wearing I think.

It is adjustable for a good fit and feels good on loaded up. It has access to the sides for reaching your water bottles with the pack on or accommodes a water bladder. A place for your poles on the front and numerous daisy chain loops throughout for attachment points.

Compression straps to tighten everything down. Best decision I made getting this pack. A bit pricy and no daypack but that is ok. The only thing is I wish the side pockets were a bit bigger to accommodate my iPhone 8+.

This pack exceeded my expectations. I love how adjustable it is. My only complaint is the color. The black one is very clearly gray, not black. I’m still giving 5 stars because I love everything else about it and it’s not that big of a deal.

If the color is very important to you, consider checking it out in person or find another photo.

Our first packaging trip, and it was perfect! I tried on a few different packs, and this one was by far the most comfortable. Though it was uncomfortable under the straps at times, as I suspect they all would have been considering the weight I was carrying, I did not have any pains or soreness after removing the pack.

Alsp, lots of pockets for organization and places to attach items to the outside of the pack.

I have an osprey ariel 65 and was looking to downsize to the renn and save about a pound. Renn was nice, and I was willing to cut back on all the bells and whistles that the Ariel affords. But when I loaded the Renn up with 30-35 lbs.

, it quickly became evident that the Renn wasn’t going to cut it. This pack tops out around that weight and it showed. Pack didn’t ride comfortably with that weight, shoulder straps pulled down and the hip belt, though situated well on my hips tranfserred pressure to the tops of my pelvis.

I think if you are really traveling light, under 30 pounds this pack could work well. I will keep my Ariel 65 for my bigger treks with heavier loads. The Ariel 65 is highly adjustable, supremely comfortable and will carry the heaviest loads.

I believe the Renan’s sweet spot is around 25 lbs. of gear. Anything more I would go with the beefier and better structured Ariel 65.

I was excited for this pack, but after using it for a weekend backpacking trip, I am returning it. The shoulder straps are very painful, bruised my clavicles, and made it difficult for me to take heavier breaths as I was hiking.

The waist belt bruised my hips. And the hard bottom of the frame also dug into the back of my hips. Overall, the pack was extremely uncomfortable for me. My boyfriend traded packs with me on the hike back out and he agreed that it was very uncomfortable.

The top storage compartment is not very convenient either. Some of my items kept falling out when I would stop to open the pack and get something out/put something back in. Could definitely use some more pockets, even though they had small ones on the waist/belt straps.

The mesh on the back for breathability is so-so. While I could tell that there was a little more air flow, I was still very sweaty as my shirt was still sticking to me between my skin and the mesh. Overall, I’m disappointed that this pack didn’t work out, especially since I’ve heard such great things about Osprey products.

But I’m grateful that I took it on a shorter trip to test it out first. If you decide to purchase this pack, I recommend first trying it on a shorter outing to make sure it works for you.

There are great things about the bag, however it could be so much better. First I’m 5’8″ 145 llbs, hip belt was extremely uncomfortable, and I was at the top of the height adjustment, if you are taller find another pack.

Only 2 day hike with 37llbs of gear and my shoulders and hips are wrecked. The placement of the hydro bladder make it impossible to refill on the fly; also very difficult to insert the hose. In the end I ditched using the bladder.

Nice pockets for large water bottles, but you can not remove and replace while hiking. It would have been nice if maybe there was a spot to clip water bottle to. I put on belt, but it wasn’t ideal. Side pockets on hip belt fantastic! They fit plenty.

I wanted a pack that didn’t have a lot of extra pockets which is why I liked this bag. Top hood should be adjustable, if you have it loaded and need into interior of pack you have to unload the top so you can close again, super inconvenient.

My sleeping bag is bulkier than I like, I tried to make as small as I could with compression sack and fit into interior of bag which took up half bag, but my tent with rain fly and floor fit great into bottom area where most would put sleeping bag and made packing up really fast.

I love the color, the capacity, the durability/ruggedness, the price point. Just seems it was so easy to have been so much better.

I just got back from 9 days in Thailand and needed a bag that would hold everything PLUS be carry-on approved. This bag held everything down tight and I had my laptop inside the computer compartment.

Loved all the extras you don’t notice until you get the bag. Security features are awesome and I wonder who thought of them because they rock. This bag is has super clean lines when everything is cinched down and made it super easy putting in overhead plane bins, bus bins, on ferry’s and carrying on my back when riding a moped.

The ability to hide the waist straps is really good. When traveling I saw so many other travelers with waist straps that just hang free. Why is this an issue? When stopping at bathrooms, for example, they put their bags on the floor and the straps are resting on really gross bathroom floors; in Thailand some of the toilets are just holes in the floor and a bucket of water to “flush.

” My bag straps where neatly tucked away. The top hard case is such an amazing feature and the hidden water bottle compartment. My girlfriend had a similar Northface bag and she keeps bugging me to buy her one of these.

Only thing I would change is something I read in another persons review; I’d change the orientation of the top hard safety compartment’s zipper. When the bag is laying flat, say on a bed, and the straps for the bag are on the bottom side, if one opens the hard case anything loose will fall out.

It’s not a big issue at all though. I also bought travel cubes and that made a huge difference. Twice I was stopped by TSA and they searched my bag; travel cubes made it SO easy to put everything back and get on my way! Long story short, do not hesitate to purchase this bag! I never leave reviews but felt this bag deserved it.

I am a minimalist and after some research in the 40L/carry on backpack category decided to try the landmark. The good news is that the bag does a good job on the main areas. The main compartment is big and deep, organization is minimal and other features are well built: For instance the straps can be hidden but without having the big, cover and zipper that other bags have.

Also, the bag does not have a real frame, which makes it lighter, but still holds together very well. However I ended up returning it. The safe compartment did not work for me. It’s too small and can not carry everything I need handy on a long trip.

Also, very annoyingly, it opens forwards, to the other side than the main zipper, so everytime you want to access it you need to finish packing, or at least close the main compartment if you don’t want things to fall.

To prevent some of that, the safe compartment has a net and a zipper that just makes it harder to use. Also while I like the design I found the front is crested and does not look as great as it could, in fact the pack looks funny if it’s not completely full.

I bought this bag for my trip to india and I wanted to keep both carryon and personal item on my back because I have a baby strapped on my front. The amount of stuff you can carry in this pack is just amazing.

The little pack will fit two full size nalgene water bottles on sides. It also has. proper laptop sleeve. This bag is super packable. Larger bag pack on the top , i kept like 4 sunglasses without cover.

They were well protected. reatbackpack for life.

The XS/SM fits my 15″ torso great on the Small setting! It differs from the Deva not only in capacity but in suspension style. Its back is certainly more breathable and torso length more customizable.

However, what you gain in breathability you lose in lumbar support. The mesh FreeFloat backing is reminiscent of the osprey’s anti-gravity system with less of the “hip clamping” belt. My back does appreciate the increased support of the Deva’s Response A3 backing over the Jade, so much so that I’ve opted to carry my 60L Deva over my 38L Jade.

The added weight is worth it for the amount of support my back gets from it. I’ve taken this pack everywhere, from the Grand Canyon to New Zealand to the Antarctic Ice! I purchased it hoping it could double as a travel carry-on/hiking pack.

It’s certainly a great hiking companion but not the best travel bag. The straps, the brain, the compartments – they were all quite cumbersome on 15-hour flights, 1-day layovers and endless unpacking/repacking of adventures.

I’m excited to try Gregory’s Proxy 45L travel pack for my next flight. The Jade 38L capacity is a great size for ultralight backpacking or fully loaded day hiking. Things I’ve Learned: 1. No matter what bag you’re wearing, you DONT want your heavy stuff below OR above the pack’s frame.

You want to arrange heavy items against the middle of the frame in order for the weight to transfer to your hips via the hipbelt. Use lighter stuff around the heavy stuff and cinch down your side straps to hold things in place.

2. You fit the pack, the pack doesn’t fit you. A wiser, more experienced backpacker taught me this. You must tell the pack where you want it to fit you. In order to do that, you have to adjust what feels like endless straps at times, but it’s well worth it when you find your sweet spot.

I suggest a bottom-up process starting with the hipbelt (buckled snuggly at the belly button,) shoulder straps brought JUST to tension, sternum strap comfortably strapped, and finally the load lifters for a final shift of the weight onto the hips.

If your feeling the weight in your shoulders/upper back try playing with the tension of your shoulder straps and load lifters. I’ll often loosen my shoulder straps to drop the weight down on my hips and then bring the load lifters forward to balance the load.

3. Readjust each time you put your pack on. Yup, things are constantly changing from where we feel the tension in our body to how the pack’s weight is sitting on our body.

I’ve used my Zulu 30 for a dozen hikes now, and while I like the way it carries, I am frustrated by several issues. Overall the value is good, but I wouldn’t buy it again for my purposes. Firstly, the pack is heavy for its size in 2023.

2. 7lb for 30L. I understand it’s a consumer-line budget pack, but there are numerous companies that offer full-suspension 30L packs sub 26oz. Premium packs (Zpacks Arcs) are 18oz for 50L! Of course, different spending class, but it’s notable that Gregory still is choosing heavy, bulky fabrics instead of using their company size to scale lighter-weight production.

Also, the exterior pockets are all poorly designed. The rear mesh pocket is “tight”, and has little flexibility when the pack is fully loaded. Sure you can stuff some socks in it, but is lacks 3D flex – why not have chosen a quality Lycra mesh? Frustrating.

The water bottle pockets are classically difficult to access while wearing, and don’t hold thin/tall bottles (1L smartbottles for instance) very well. Better off using a shorter/squattier bottle like an Essentia.

7L, especially if you’re doing any technical work. Anyway, overall the pack is fine, and it carries weight well. The suspension is “overbuilt” for a 30L pack. it’s pretty hard to get enough weight in this little pack to use the suspension well.

I would really like to see Gregory leverage the experience of deep country backpackers to address some of the functionality issues. It seems like they’re a little more focused on making their line of packs “look” the same, with sleek, tight lines and pockets, rather than increasing functionality.

Also, use the bulk-buying power of a big to lighten your packs!.

In just a few weeks after purchasing, I’ve already used this bag on several day hikes and one overnight backpacking trip. The things I like: 1. I absolutely love the mesh back panel, it keeps my back super dry and way more vented than any of my other packs.

2. The shoulder straps and hip belt are very comfortable and easy to use, including the small hip pockets. 3. The included rain cover is such a nice touch 4. I like the Gregory hydration carrier system so much more than Camelbak.

The Zulu includes the very easy to use hydration system – the hanger clip with an elastic pocket to keep the bladder in and secured, the retention clip on the right shoulder strap to keep the hose secured, and the magnet that the bite valve attaches to.

Brilliant. 5. Side compression straps are routed under the side mesh pocket. 6. The mesh pocket on the front is secured with a clip rather than being free floating 7. You can access the inside of the bag from the front, makes it easy to get stuff in and out quickly.

What I don’t like: 1. I bought this bag to use for 1-2 day backpacking trips, so I needed to be able to fit water, food, layers/clothes, stove, accessories, sleeping bag and pad, and my tent. My small gripe is the lack of straps on the exterior, to lash either my tent or sleeping pad to the outside.

I actually ended up getting 2 adjustable straps sewn on the outside to fix this issue, so problem solved. Just wish it would have come with some on the outside bottom like most bigger packs come with.

2. The zippers on the hip pockets are somewhat challenging to use with one hand. Otherwise this is a stellar pack.

I was so happy to purchase this backpack because on longer hikes, my packs tend to pull down on my shoulders and exacerbate my neck problems. The pack IS good for neck and back support, but the frame is far too stiff and substantial for me to enjoy my hike comfortably.

It’s not for me, but might be OK for someone else. PROS: Superior back and neck support Decent hip pocket size Nice color CONS: – Frame is far too stiff and ever-present during the hike, makes you feel like an astronaut – Hole for hydration tube is far too small and sewn in such a way that makes it even more difficult to thread through; I didn’t mind it when preparing for the hike (I just put the hose in first before attaching to bladder) but removing a half-full bladder after my hike when I’m tired and eager to clean my gear was awful.

Water everywhere. This is a deal breaker. – Preparing hydration bladder is, in general, too much of a production. – Zipper on front pocket is unnecessary security IMO; you want that front pocket to open and easily accessible to stuff trash or wet clothes in or grab things like wipes quickly – Top pocket too small and the frame makes it difficult to get things in and out of – I miss the tiny pocket on the shoulder strap on the Tempest; handy for small snack, GPS, or GoPro – Available space for gear is deceptively small because the exaggerated arc and stiffness of the frame squeezes the main compartment to virtually nothing.

I’m sad about it, but will be returning.

I love, love this pack. I am day hiker with distances 2-10 miles. I have had back problems since childhood so for me to say this is the most comfortable pack I have ever worn is saying something. The adjustable torso length is an outstanding feature.

The various straps adjust to cause the majority of the weight to rest on your hips. Beside hiking, I used it as my purse, catch all and pool tote while traveling. I paired it with the 3 liter hydration bladder although I do wish I would have stuck with the 2 liter.

I agree with others that threading the tube through to the outside of the pack is tight but doable. I can attest the raincover performs except the hip pockets are not covered. I appreciate a whistle is integrated into the buckle.

One less item to carry. The design also helps keep your back cooler. If you are in the market for a pack, try this on for size. It is durable and well designed. Even though it is a bit pricey, being comfortable on your adventures so you can enjoy the experience is priceless.

Also, this one pack is less than the other four packs I don’t use. I just hope this pack is still available if I ever wear this one out. I was not given any compensation for this review.

I purchased a new Osprey Men’s Stratos 36 Pack since my old was had a lot of wear and tear and the belt zippers failed. I knew about Osprey guarantee, but couldn’t wait the 8 to 12 weeks to have my old pack repaired.

The new Stratos 36 has a couple of nice features one of which is the large pocket in on the back of the main compartment. My old Stratos had two pockets on top that were smaller. The main compartment on the new Stratos was only top loading, so you have to dig through everything to get to the stuff on the bottom.

The old one had a large zipper that completely opened the main compartment. A feature I really liked – no digging. No matter how I adjust the new Stratos I find I can’t get it to fit as nice as the old.

So I sent the old Stratos 36 off to Osprey to get it repaired. I received a couple of messages that they couldn’t totally repair it and offers of a new pack. Since I already had a new pack I wasn’t happy with, I asked they repair the old one as much as possible and return it.

Today it arrive and to my surprise NOTHING was done to it.

This bag is similar to the men’s version (Farpoint 40). My wife ordered the XS/S, which comes in a 38 litre version. She fines the fit nice and comfortable for her relatively short torso, although the larger size would have probably worked also.

The pack is perfect as a carry on and the backpack straps stow nicely inside a zippered pocket. The two large storage areas, plus smaller (accessible) inside zippered pocket are ample to hold a few days worth of clothes and gear.

She loves the Mistry Grey colour (much nicer than the green).

I am a 5’2″ tall, 115 lbs petite woman with a torso length of about 16. 5″ (42 cm) and the XS/S size fits me nicely. (Size of backpack depends on your torso length, not your height. ) I have the Misty Grey, which is more of an olive colour (not beige!).

I’ve had this pack for about a year now, and I have used it in 5 trips, ranging from 3 to 9 days. The 38L capacity of the XS/S size is enough to pack at least a week’s worth of clothing, as long as you are not packing lots of heavier clothes.

The U-shaped opening makes the main compartment easily accessible, while the turquoise internal colour makes it easy to find things (and it is a very nice colour). The 2 internal compression straps really helps flattening the pack.

The external compression straps are attached to a flap that goes around the zippers of the main and laptop compartments and can hide the lockable zippers for extra security (which I appreciate). The harness and hip belts are padded enough to make it comfortable for maybe a few hours of carrying the pack on your back, or just to get you from the airport to the hotel and vice versa.

The frame is wonderful as it really helps with the distribution of weight (no lower back pain for me). The zippered panel for stowing away the harness and hip belt if you need to check in the bag is one of the features that I was specifically looking for when I was deciding for a pack.

It also comes with a shoulder strap when you want to carry it duffle bag style (though for petite women, I do not recommend it for a long time if the pack is full). I use the mesh pockets outside for snacks, wet face towel, or other small things but not for water bottle.

I use a water bladder on my trips which I attached on the daisy chains of the pack. The laptop sleeve is indeed placed in the middle of the pack and is lightly padded. Osprey likely did this because the frame makes the side of the pack closest to your back uneven for a laptop.

Knowing this part of the design, I bought a different bag (Timbuk2 Classic Messenger) for my laptop for some of my trips. I did try to use the laptop compartment on my last trip – I cushioned the front of the laptop with a soft jacket, and a cardigan on the main compartment side.

To avoid unnecessary pressure points in my laptop, I packed the main compartment as flat as possible. The only reason I did not travel with this packing initially is that it pushed the weight of my backpack to almost 10lbs (I was initially worried with the weight on my back).

I did try it again on my way back home from that same trip, and it was fine. So, your laptop can be pack nicely in this backpack, just maybe add some cushion if you want and be wary of the weight. One thing that I noticed in my last trip is that the frame seems to be on the flexible side, as it looks like the lower back part of the frame expanded from my uneven packing.

Not quite sure if this is supposed to happen, but it is something I will have to look at more closely. For now, I will have to make sure to pack it as flat (boxy) as possible. Those who are considering this bag should know that this is more of a hybrid bag than a true travel pack or backpacking pack.

Hence, it will have some good features from both types of packs, but it won’t really excel in things that make a travel or a backpacking pack really great. Still, I think that this pack is great and I highly recommend it, as long as you understand what it can and cannot do.

Remember: Every pack is made different, and every one has a different body. Just because a pack works for most, that does not mean it will work for everyone. And just because a pack does not work for someone, it does not mean it’s a bad pack.

Try the pack first, with weights in it, before you commit to it.

This thing is great! Easy to pull out or put away the straps when you need or don’t need them, it’s lightweight, comfortable to have on your back for some time when moving around the airports or walking around places.

It’s easy to get into and the covers which hide the zippers are a super nice feature adding to the safety of the bag. There are many compression straps creating the versatility of this bag to be a weekend or a longer trip bag.

The water bottle pockets work great to!! Stuff and go!.

Unlike other people complaining about size, features and dimensions, this pack is really all you need for a 3 season (and light 4 season if you don’t need campons/ice axe) day hike. This pack carries a load very well, which I give credit to the harness/suspension/frame design.

The only downside (hence 4 stars) is the top zippered pocket isn’t large enough to put an easily accessible first aid kit in there. My phone, emergency blanket, compass, extra candy bars, etc. all fit fine in there.

I realize a lot of people can’t be without their phones for a few hours (oh the horror), and subsequently, my Motorola Z4 fits perfectly fine in the pouches on the belt – not that I carry it there as I carry more useful items like food, a knife, headlamp, batteries for my cameras (GoPro & Fuji X100T), etc.

I guess if you use oversized garbage like Apple, then the phone won’t fit. The main compartment can be snug depending on what you carry, but I haven’t had any problem fitting in or accessing my GSI pot, stove, fuel canister,16 oz nalgene for cooking water, food, first aid kit, Grayl water filter (although the smaller Grayl will fit in the right outside mesh pocket if needed), jacket, extra shirt, gloves, hat, etc.

I also haven’t experienced anything falling out while getting things out, so I’m unsure how others are having issues with this. If you need something at the very bottom of the pack and your pack is full, then common sense would dictate you’re gonna need to remove stuff anyway.

not a big deal. Plus, you want a snug fit with your gear as the load carries closer to your back, therefore more efficient at carrying the load. and this pack really excels at this. The left side mesh pocket is tight, but I usually put my GoPro with handle mount in there, which fits it just fine, albeit a bit loose but hasn’t fallen out, and can get it in/out without having to take off the pack.

While the hole at the top of the pack for the hydration hose is tight, again, not a big deal. you stick the hose in once, and shouldn’t need to remove it unless you need to clean it, as you can detach the hose from the bladder to fill up the bladder.

Easy peasy. BTW, I’m a guy – unfortunately I have a short torso (around 15. 5″), and sadly the mens pack was a hair too long. but this pack fits like a glove. Haven’t used the larger front mesh-type pocket yet, but I imagine it would be fine for storing a lightweight jacket that got wet or something, or if you changed out your socks & sock liners and don’t want to stick them inside the main body of the pack.

Pros: Weight distribution is great and the pack is very comfortable. The hydration features work well. The pack seems durable but lightweight. Cons: The design for storage is so strange to me. All of the smaller pockets are way too small.

The outer zipper pocket is only big enough for a phone and a tube of sunscreen maybe. The inside zipper pocket barely holds my wallet and keys. The hip belt zipper pockets are too small for my phone.

The way the zippers go all the way down the sides of the main compartment makes it difficult to rummage around in the pack without dropping items and makes it so even though it’s a 24 L pack which should be plenty big for a day hike where you need snacks and layers, it feels very cramped.

There are no additional internal organizational features inside the main compartment which can make it difficult to find things. The attachment for trekking poles is positioned weirdly so they flop around.

The slit to thread the bladder hose through is tight and hard to push the nozzle through the narrow opening. I’d heard such great things about Gregory packs that I was excited to try this one but feel a bit let down.

I bought this a month ago and took it on a backpacking trip in Oregon. The support, the adjustments, and the pockets everywhere made this such a great bag! I was able to carry twice the weight my husband was because the weight distribution was so good.

The zippers are durable, so I could pack a lot of stuff without being too worried. I also was able to use the detachable day-pack for days in the city. I’m an XS/S in this pack, and I brought it as a carry-on on two large airlines, which was an added bonus.

Last year I joined climbing club but I didn’t have backpack. Therefore, I borrowed the pack from the club. It wasn’t suitable. I started to find a nice one in many stores. However, the size of packs in stores were too big.

With my dad’s help I bought this backpack on the Internet!!! I finally have it now!!!! Though I can’t go climbing recently since COVID-19, I’m still looking forward to try it in the future!!.

I haven’t taken the pack for an overnight yet but did fully load it with all my gear for several day trips for a test run. I have pain in my chest wall and ribs so having a pack that is easily adjustable is crucial to me and this pack really delivers! As a unexpected bonus I used the lid as a daypack while snowshoeing for a few days and was pretty pleased.

The Hajker Pro 30 is great! The features, comfort, and simplicity are all high quality. When riding motocross and endurance trials I almost forget I have it on. I also like the range of motion and maneuverability I have when riding or hiking.

Especially when I’m using trekking poles or needing to use my arms much. I also like the elasticity in the bands/straps that expand and contract depending on your activity which in my opinion helps me barely notice that I even have it on me.

One of the main reasons I got Hajker Pro 30 was for the waterproof features. Living in the pacific northwest where it rains a lot I wanted a bag that will keep my stuff dry and allow me to go more places and do more things without the worry of my stuff getting ruined or wet.

So the dry sack liner is an important feature I utilize almost every time I’m using the pack. I am very satisfied with my purchase and look forward to other purchases from USWE in the near future.

I was looking for a lightweight pack that can hold a lot of stuff for all day bike adventures *and* pack up small for everyday 1-3 hour rides. Although I love the weight and the white material, the overall design doesn’t cut it for me for the following reasons: 1) the bladder holster is too small for my 3L camelbak bladder.

seems small overall; 2) the padding that makes contact with your back is rough/abrasive and doesn’t feel comfortable against my back. I’m worried it would cause hot spots on long sweaty days; 3) the roll top is too cumbersome to open; 4) when the pack is full, it’s not easy to access the pockets.

I think this could be an awesome pack but it needs a redesign. As I mentioned, I love the size and weight, but I think it needs improvement when it comes to organizing things you need to access quickly, especially since opening the main compartment will never be as easy as a zippered compartment.

Love this daypack! I just got back from Alaska and I couldn’t be more impressed with my Hajker 24L. I completed numerous runs, hikes, and the Hajker fit perfect (no pack bounce/no sore shoulders due to the strap design) with just the right amount of room/pockets for a day’s adventure.

I also really appreciate that the lower side pockets/strap is removable for those shorter hikes and runs.

This is a fantastic bag! I bought this as in my big move from places like Mountain Warehouse to solid brands (“buy cheap, buy twice”). Seeing the bag advertised at a discount with someone like Jason Fox sticking up for it caught my attention.

I’m spending more and more days out in the mountains so purchased and went from there. As soon as it arrives you can just see the value compared to other bags I’ve had. The build quality, texture, features.

I’ve used this for a few single days, most notably Snowdon with my 5 year old in December and Scafell Pike with her again in April. Different weather conditions, plenty of room for extra kit and her stuff too.

The bag is easily adjustable, really comfortable, and just feel like it’s a part of you with no back pain. This bag will have no trouble supporting my multi-days when I get back out and do them. In the meantime, I am will be looking to buy the Archeon 30 or Talon 36 for some single day usage to support the Archeon 45 too.

The hydration pouch will fit your normal narrower camel pack water unit in, but I am looking in to the wider Osprey hydration units to spread the space a bit more. Lastly, there’s a brilliant video on YouTube by Forrester Bushcraft which goes into detail with the bag.

If you’re not placing an order by the end of that video, I’m disappointed in you!.

I was counting on Osprey to make a cute bag that also packed and traveled well to use for commuting, but this fell short. The pack does sit well on your shoulders and hikes well, but to pack it is terrible.

The back piece curves making the black hole type main compartment very cumbersome to pack. But the main reason I had to return it is the the back piece was too long and hit me in the back of the head when I tried it on my bike.

I switched to the Osprey Transporter instead and have had much better luck.

Novice hiker here — and when I say novice, I’ve been on two 4-5 hour hikes so far. Other hikes consisted of waterfall trails that were only about 30min to 1 hour. My first hike to Pinnacle Mountain, I borrowed a small inexpensive daypack that was being used for my toddler’s daycare bag.

It worked for that day, but killed my shoulders. I kept adjusting the straps, but it didn’t much good. Halfway up the trail, I was miserable and ready to toss the pack! After doing some research and deciding on a budget, I wanted to buy an Osprey pack (specifically the Hikelite 18).

I only plan to do day hikes, no through-hiking or multi-day hiking. Some of the features that caught my eye were the semi-rigid frame, the rain cover, and the option to put a bladder inside. I already had a bladder that I picked up from a bargain bin a few months back and it fit perfectly! On my second hike, up Table Rock, I had the new pack with the same amount of stuff in it.

What a world of difference! The only time my shoulders felt anything was on the way down, because I was hunching over more than when I was going up. By the end of of the day, my neck and shoulders weren’t sore at all.

The experience was much more enjoyable and I came away feeling that I definitely made a good decision in purchasing the pack. Only time will tell how well it holds up, but it seems to be made really well so that shouldn’t be an issue.

As for everything else besides comfort: The zippers work great The little scratch resistant pocket was nice to hold my phone. The straps worked great The mesh back and ventilation worked okay (my clothes were soaked from heat & humidity, so not sure what difference it would have made in a different climate.

Haven’t used the rain cover yet. The bottom of my bag got wet from the bladder condensation. I will say I half-filled the bladder, froze it overnight, then filled it the rest of the way the morning of so that part is on me.

So far, it’s a great bag for a reasonable price!.

So let me first start off by saying that the reason this bag only gets 4 stars is because of the organization. They only give you 3 zippered compartments. The main, the small on on the top maybe large enough for a phone or eye glass case then the one on the bottom for the rain guard if you should even count that.

I understand that this is a hiking bag but why not give us a large ziped compartment on the front where we can put some small things or atleast some internal zip pouch that can be used for things like passports.

The bag is easily the most comfortable personal item sized backpack I have ever used. Its light weight and the frame helps a ton for support and adds almost no weight. The waist straps are removable and leave a clean look when removed can be used for attaching some gear or hanging bottle.

I was also looking at the day light, daylight plus, day light travel, one because they attach to the larger packs and the daylight travel is larger then this bag and has the organization I crave. But there all missing this awesome frame this is why in the end I went with the hike lite.

To add some organization to the bag I purchased the Osprey UltraLight Zip Organizer and attached it to the top of the bag with some clips (See my photos). This gave me an great use of the top part of this bag and taking everything out of the front pouch that caused it to sag and not really look nice when the bag was empty.

I will mostly be using this for travel and very light hiking I can fit 2 or 3 light jackets/hoddies or one heavy jacket with this set up. I hope this is helpful to some others. I hope osprey can make a combination of this and there travel bag that is also carry on sized.

On most trips that don’t involve hiking the backpack I bring will be with me almost all the time I would rather have one with a frame over one that can attach to my backpack. Most people rarely use this feature from what I found online.

Give us a frame and pockets for our things!.

I recently hiked one of my favorite mountains and had the hikelite 18 on for the first time. Well, it was light and comfortable. I had a shirt and sweat shirt inside the pack as well as some snacks and two bottles of water in the side pouches.

That’s about all I need to go up and back. The straps were wide and padded enough, comfortable and didn’t dig into my shoulders. The airspeed mesh attached to the frame rests on my back leaving an air pocket to relieve sweat.

The small waterproof pouch was nice to put my wallet, keys and cellphone though I opted to carry that in my pants pocket. I didn’t need to use the rain cover that is located at the bottom of the pouch but I’m sure it could come in handy when it does rain.

After several months of use, I finally wanted to leave a review. I love this pack! It’s perfect for a day hike and I love the positioning of the cross body buckles tailored for women (no straps across the boobs).

It’s super comfortable and holds a good amount of stuff on a hike. Very durable – I’ve brought it hiking, airplanes, cities, raft trips and more and it’s held up perfectly. Lots of pocket space for stuff as well along with the large main pocket.

I really like that you can put a water pack in too, although not included. I’ve recommended this pack to several friends because of how much I love it!.

As others have said, the perfect bag for a day hike and very comfortable. I am here to tell you how much it can hold! Basically, if you were worried about its size, don’t. I just managed to fit the following in the main compartment of the XS size (I am 5’4, just between the XS/S and S/M sizes so went with the smaller one as it is more compact): – 13″ laptop in a sleeve – small hardcover notebook – pair of over-ear noise cancelling headphones in a case – MEC medium packing cube half full with cables (including laptop and phone bricks, battery pack, etc.

) – TRTL travel pillow (with the fixed curved frame – this is by no means a flat item!) – sunglasses case – ‘activewear’ jacket – not thick, but not a lightweight windbreaker either. There were a few bulky items so it took a little manoeuvring to get all of them in, but it zipped up nicely.

Haven’t been able to take it back country camping yet but I did backpack through Morocco with it. Never any long distances but it was easy to organize everything in the bag. I appreciate all the different compartments and pockets available.

I tried on many different bags in store at MEC and this was the bag I settled on. It’s not everything I wanted but it was my best option at the time for what I needed. I was ultimately debating between the Gregory Deva and the Osprey Aura My one thing was that when it was packed entirely full, the top part of the bag felt like I couldn’t fully stand up right because it would hit the back of my head thus forcing me into an anterior pelvic tilt (aka I felt like I had to arch my back a bit).

When the bag wasn’t entirely full, it was perfectly fine. Also, this version of the bag that is sold here I believe is the newer version of the Gregory Deva. I had purchased the bag thinking that there was a removeable lumbar support, the additional day-pack inside the bag, and the custom fit bag/rain cover as I believe the previous version of the bag had (this is what I had seen in store at MEC and when MEC didn’t have my size/colour, I bought it off Altitude thinking it was the same bag but it is not).

When I checked the official Gregory website, you can see that there are 2 Gregory Deva’s on their site — one which was on sale and one which was not at the time which lead me to believe that the one that was not on sale is the newer version which matches what you see on the Altitude site.

This was rather disappointing knowing that Gregory made a “newer” version and decided to remove all the extra add-ons which were such a huge sell for me when I was trying on bags initially. TLDR: – Great pack for organization and comfort – Fully packed bag = awkward fit, feels like if I look up I’ll hit my head against the bag which then kind of forces me into an anterior pelvic tilt – Doesn’t come with the day pack, rain cover, and adjustable/removable lumbar support like the previous version did.

My main reason for getting this pack was to carry the heavy loads necessary when ice climbing. I am replacing a brand X ice-specific 75L bag which would sag under heavy load and then weight my shoulders, despite it being the largest size (I’m 6’3″ with a 20″ torso).

The Baltoro 65 is a great improvement in many ways. In the size large it is taller, so I have no problems with my shoulders getting loaded; even with 50 lb in it the pack fits and rides well. The waist suspension is wonderfully comfortable and grippy (doesn’t slip down); it and the shoulder straps articulate well, so I don’t feel awkward pulling when I am scrambling, reaching, or leaning.

The versatility is really well thought through. I am always preaching the principle of “unintended uses”, meaning well designed packs adapts to weird and unexpected uses (which I am always doing). This pack can manage anything: e.

g. many ways to carry ropes, tents, pack rafts, crampons, skis, poles, shovels, dogs, auto parts, or whatever. I was impressed that they thought to configure the compression strap buckles to allow different ways to use the compression straps, e.

g. crossing them across the pack instead of up the sides. This adds a lot of diversity and capability when carrying awkward things–shows they have really thought this pack through. When climbing and camping, I like having some degree of organization and the Baltoro has about the right amount.

It has a couple outside pockets for gloves, hats, rain gear, etc that I may want without digging them out under all my other gear; it has a couple pockets on the top lid that are nice for head lamps, cordettes, extra biners, toilet paper, or whatever.

Another thing I’ve learned to be wary of with heavy loads is the overhanging moment they present if the pack is deep (i. e. stands far off your back, torquing it backwards). This pack is tall and narrowish, which keeps the load close to you and over the waist suspension as much as possible.

This makes it much, much better when carrying heavy loads. I also like the various ways you can get into the bag. I am always needing something that is buried, and I hate having to dig for things. This bag allows you 3 ways in: top, front, bottom.

Ice climbing with all the snow around, I don’t like just dumping everything out. Often the belays are tiny stances on slopes and things have a way of rolling downhill or getting buried in soft snow. This pack allows me to lay it horizontal and open it up like a front loader to get at stuff real nicely without anything falling out.

While loading stuff back up at the end of the day it is nice to just stuff it all in from the top. Even the raincoat they give you for the pack gets used. I haven’t used it for the pack yet (thought it may see that service), but I do use it all the time to sit on in the snow.

Ice climbing, I need to put crampons on and adjust my boots, gaiters, etc, requiring me to sit down in the snow. I use this pack raincoat to sit on so that my butt does not get wet (its also a bit warmer).

I also use the little day pack they include which duals as a hydration sleeve. I use water bottles, so I don’t use this for a water bladder, but I really like it as a climbing pack. Ice climbing is cold, so on the way up a multipitch climb I need a belay jacket, water, snack, and tagline.

I can put all these things in that little pack, and it fits nice and high on my back, staying well out of the way of the harness and all the gear that is going on and off the harness while climbing.

I’ve tried a lot of packs, and I have a difficult time getting them to fit a short curvy body. I got this pack in an x-small from Expert Voice and customized it with medium straps from another retailer.

The combination dialed in the fit for me. I’ve used it on a 10 day trip in Colorado in the summer, and a 4 day cold and wet trip in the Smokies in the late fall as well as shorter trips. It carries well, has great pocket designs and good secure attachment points for hanging little things (my inreach mini was right where I needed it on my shoulder strap and my solar panel and solar light hung well off the lid).

I’d like deeper more stretchy side mesh pockets on both sides in addition to the bottle holder so I could carry tent poles and more gear on the outside, but overall, I’m a fan of the pocket options. The pack is a LOT lighter than the older versions and much more streamlined.

I wish the sizing was truly a 60liter, the xsmall is 54 liters and was tight with cold weather gear. I’ve fit a full ursak in it with gear without a problem. The side pockets are pretty useless for me – they’re too tiny to hold newer phones (I have a Samsung S9 and it won’t fit), and too tight for snacks, but the hood now has multiple compartments and can be easily reached when wearing the pack.

I am minimalist in most of my adventures and I was looking for a slimmer and lighter backpack that could seamlessly replace my older bulkier trekking bag. Now of course it’s not a 1 to 1 but what I gained with this one to what was lost is where the Thule wins hands down.

Light, Slim, large enough main compartment that can easily last me a full change of clothes for a week, making traveling for a month an easy task, water repellant outer layer that doesn’t seem like its going to require a standalone cover, and a rugged finish that will last for the tougher adventures I am sure.

the only downside for me, which might not be for others is the brain, it is removable, I don’t see a reason for myself to ever remove it so my concern is the way the brain is retained to the top with 2 straps and the G hook out back (3 points retention), so far it has been a lot of manipulation to readjust the position every time I removed or added something to the pack.

Not a deal-breaker but something to keep in mind. All in all a solid choice for a simple light and rugged pack.

I needed a day pack to hike with my kids when i need to carry snacks, water and rain coats for all of us. I tried first the 25l version which i thought looked even better than 35l but was a little too small.

This one looked a bit big for my needs but turns out the size is not too overwhelming. The selling points for me were the looks (i know, i’m shallow!) – i didn’t want the typical hiking backpack with huge waist belt etc.

This bag has comfortable waist belt with pockets but it’s not thick and can actually be removed when I want the bag to look less “outdoorsy”. Also i needed easy access to the inside and this bag has a side opening that works fantastic.

I also love the pocket on the shoulder strap though unfortunately it doesnt fit my Samsung note 9. The same pocket in the 25l was bigger which is disappointing. I was worried about the “funky” opening but it actually works fine and is pretty quick to open and close.

I imagine it will also come handy if i have more stuff and need to stack an extra jacket under the flap. I hiked once in a medium rain and the bag was just fine even without the rain cover. It’s also great that the bottom is completely waterproof – i wasn’t worried about placing it on wet rocks.

The downsides are really minor for me. Besides the size of the shoulder pocket, i find it a little long, which it was shorter and wider. Even though I wish there was a stir backpack size between 25l and 35l, overall i’m very happy with my purchase.

I really like the looks and it meets all my needs when hiking.

Where do I start, I use this backpack mainly for mountain biking, i am 6’4, 230 pounds and it fits me perfectly, it’s very comfortable an it has incredible airflow on the back. The organization is perfect for its size, it is very lightweight but still feels durable.

The waist straps could be slightly bigger, however it does the trick. I personally love the colour, it’s excellent for many situations, it doesn’t stand out like a sore thumb, so I can easily walk around town with it and not look really flashy like some other backpacks on the market.

All in all I highly recommend it! It has become my most used backpack and the price is excellent. Great purchase.

I’ve been searching for a pack in this size class for AGES. I need something for fast-and-(semi)light one- or two- night trips with my ultralight gear that STILL has the load carrying capacity for me to throw in 4 or 6 liters of water for those occasions when I have a dry camp in the high country, or for when I’m taking an extended day hike on a dry trail and need to carry plenty of extra water for my dog.

Most ultralight packs are too delicate for what I’m going to put them through and don’t won’t carry that extra water-weight comfortably, and most day packs in the 35L size class are significantly heavier than this one.

or don’t have a great frame or waist belt. This pack ticks all the boxes. It has a good frame and a great waist belt that transfers the load very efficiently, and it’s still light enough that I’m shaving a pound and a half off the other pack I was considering.

So far I’ve only taken it on two overnight trips: one night, 20 miles round trip on flat ground; and two nights up on the continental divide with 15+ mile days and around 4000 feet of elevation. I think the heaviest I had it loaded, including food and extra dog-water, was pushing 25 pounds and it carried the weight just as comfortably as my larger 46L pack.

The pack itself is light enough that my base weight is in the upper teens (an acceptable trade, in my mind, for the ability to pack that extra water when necessary). I’ve also taken it on a few short day hikes when we were more concerned about day-“glamping” with chairs and cold beverages than putting on miles and climbing mountains.

Another consideration: I’m HARD on gear, and this pack so far seems rugged enough to handle whatever I throw at it, unlike the true ultralight models I had considered. Over all, this is the perfect pack for those adventures when I need something light enough to put in some long days but still sturdy enough to carry that extra water I need to camp in those marginal places I like to frequent.

Plus, it’s a nice, sleek-looking pack that doesn’t have a lot of extra features I’m never going to use. My ONLY complaint is that I wish it had hip pockets on both sides. The modular attachments are cool and all, but honestly, I just want a plain, simple pocket.

Otherwise, it’s perfect! For reference, I’m female, 5’6″ and 140 pounds.

I have never owned a 15L pack but wanted to try one for hikes where I didn’t need to take much with me. It was so nice to find a pack that feels sturdy with great useful features, but isn’t over engineered.

I was skeptical that this would be too small but I am really happy with how it has worked out. It is a great trail companion, or personal carry on while flying. I can even drape a rain coat over top, as you would climbing rope, and cinch it down with the two side straps if I want.

The side water bottle sleeves fit a Nalgene bottle. I am most happy with how wide it opens up. Some bucket style lids just don’t open up enough, this one allows you to see everything comfortably and access it with ease.

I will say that the narrower tapering of the pack isn’t the best for fitting a laptop. I would suggest the size up (25L) if you are looking for something to use more for that intention. If you are looking for a bag that has great versatile function, is comfortable to carry, made from quality material, and fits your essentials, this is a great choice.

First of all it’s a handsome pack. That said, I’m a discerning user so all of its functionality is super important to me. In my case I am using mostly using it to haul gear to climbing crags. It carries up to 30# quite comfortably and can fit a lot for 35l.

40l, I think would be my sweet spot but the 45l version felt too big for my needs. I liked the wide range of size adjust-ability on the torso length. I can use the side straps if draping a coiled rope over the top.

It has just the right amount of pockets, though a minor quibble would be that the side and front pockets need just a little more stretch or room to make them more usable.

At first glance seems like a good backpack, but once you start using it the (lack of) details really start to show. There is absolutely NO internal organization. If you’re using this solely as a daypack and don’t care about just chucking anything in there you may fare better.

The basic structure is 1) outside mini pocket for valuable 2) main large pocket for everything 3) rear laptop pocket. The only organization is via an (included) laptop sleeve, however it is fairly bulky and adds unnecessary weight.

In addition, even holding just my keys + sunglasses+ badge, the outside mini pocket would jut out and look bad. The pack width adjustment straps are poorly designed and only add to the jutting out effect if you have literally anything in the outside pocket.

Would probably make an okay daypack, however as a commuting pack it does not get the job done nearly as well as other options.

I gave up on this pack while loading it – I didn’t feel right using it knowing that it so clearly wasn’t going to work for me. The main pocket, with the laptop sleeve, has an incredibly limited opening.

In practice, this means that it is difficult to see inside or access items. This is complicated by the fact that there is very limited organization, so you really do need to be able to see inside. I’m struggling to understand what the intended purpose of this bag is.

It cannot possibly be work / school, given the complete lack of organization. I cannot imagine it is travel – you’d have to empty it all over your seatmate to find anything. It doesn’t appear to be hiking – there is a laptop sleeve inside.

Despite loving Patagonia as a company – this falls short and is being returned unused.

I have a variety of backpacks and have been looking for a light weight, but large capacity pack. This one hits the marks! I love my highly engineered *sprey, but sometimes I don’t need all of the organization.

Without the pre-configured pockets, the Refugio allows me to organize to my own specs (with packing cubes). My favorite feature is the removable laptop sleeve – this is perfect because sometimes you need it and sometimes you don’t.

I love the flexibility a surprised that his was one of the only packs that offers that feature. Without the extra weight of over zealous organization, this easily converts to a day back. The overall size is manageable for an under the seat personal carry on.

Overall a great choice in travel/commuting backpack.

I was so psyched to receive this bag – a smaller sized back pack in a feminine print, with cool details like a bottle holder, place for an ipad-tablet-small laptop, headphones, pockets and great organization and storage.

Its everything I didnt know I needed in a day bag! I took it on a weekend trip to a casino – it allowed me to shove all my travel junk in it easily, organized, and within quick reach, I fot two days worth of clothes in it, no problem.

I took it hiking – light, feminine, water resistent, doesnt easily dirty and easy to clean if it does get a little messy. I even used it as my workk bag, schlepping it to the office with all my computer gear, water bottle, lunch, wallet, keys – it fit everything perfectly and was easy to carry.

I love the extra support straps around the chest and waist in case you do have to carry osmething more weighty on your back – you can look cute and orgnized and not destroy your spine in the process! Its just so versatile, fun, and I just love the organizational aspects of it.

Carrying a mid to large sized bag usually means a gaping abyss of stuff thrown in the bottom of a tote or backpack; this bag truly bridges the gap for me for form, function, and organization, and it can be used for so many things: Picnic? Check.

Commute? Check. Weekend getaway? Check. Hiking, outdoor day trip? Check. When you combine two great brands like Coleman and Vera Bradley, you get a winning bag that takes a beating and looks good doing it.

I love this pack for day hikes! My 3L water reservoir fits just fine, I just have to finagle the Velcro loop just a wee bit to secure it. I agree with one of the previous reviews that say the straps are a little itchy and rough to the touch, but it doesn’t bother me much at all.

I love the abundance of pockets. The side pockets are stretchy and spacious. I usually put my collapsible poles and bear spray in those pockets. Regarding the main interior, I am able to fit a jacket, the 10 essentials, a full 3 L water bladder, a sandwich and snacks with room, thermacell mosquito repellent, matador blanket, with room to spare.

I love how this pack looks in the outdoors too. Very vibrant, feminine and different from any other pack on the market. You won’t regret it!.

The material for the new daypack is fantastic. Easy to clean, resists dust-dirt, very useful for a nice day hike. The two pockets on the side can hold waterbottles or other need to reach quick items.

The inside of the daypack has a small zipper mesh pocket for keys, earbud cases, etc. In that small zipper pocket it has a key clip. There’s another larger pocket on the inside that is very convenient for small to medium sized items.

The inside is perfect sized for say hiking needs. On the outside there’s another zipper pocket. The daypack is extremely comfortable. The shoulder straps are perfect width and padding. There are clips to be able to clip the backpack around waist and chest.

The only thing I wish the daypack had that it doesn’t is an elastic band on each of the areas for excess so the strap pulls aren’t dangling.
