20 Best Wireless Remote Light Switch (2023 Updated)

I used the Philips Lighting Control for a set of outdoor string lights on my back patio. I placed the Wireless remote right outside the back door and the Outlet is about 10 feet away. Before having the Philips Lighting Control and Wireless Remote we had to plug and unplug whenever we wanted our lights on.

Having a remote to turn on the lights has been very convenient. Install was very simple. Plug your lights into the Outlet, screw the wireless remote wall mount to the wall with the included hardware, and you are set.

Very convenient and no need to wire a new outlet. The Wireless remote on the wall looks very nice and looks as if you spent time and money doing electrical work.

I used this switch instead of hiring electrician to install a switch to run LED strips above my kitchen cabinets. There was an existing outlet that was on the upper side of my cabinets that I used for switching control of LED strips above my cabinets on and off.

It was a easy install with the directions that were included with the package and all is well so far. I imagine that the battery in the switch will last quite some time as it is the same type of battery that my car remote uses and that one lasts quite awhile.

The switch and outlet seem to be good quality when holding them in my hand and it is working great so far and I am satisfied with how this remote switch is working.

Good product for what it is, especially if you don’t already have a switch that controls a socket. It’s great for a light and has an added feature a remote control. You can be in the next room and turn on the light before you even get in there or if you forgot to shut it off just hit the remote.

A lot of homes don’t have switched ceiling lights so this is a cheap alternative to light a room. Works great and would recommend it.

This switch is super handy for so many different reasons. We riged it to work a ceiling light that has no switch but it could be used for anything. Christmas tree, turning on hard to reach devices, outdoor lights.

It works from super far away too. Be warned though, the switch is just for looks. The whole thing is just a button.

Bought 2 of these switches for 2 different applications ,was going to use one in kitchen for counter lights and the other one in walk in closet in master bedroom but come to find out they both work on the same frequency which makes it impossible to use as intended.

This should have been explained in the product description, I would not have bought 2 of the same kind, costs more to return the one than its worth.

Simple to setup. Simply plug and press ON or OFF the desired button (1, 2 or 3) to pair the plug with the remote. Two plugs can fit in a wall socket and I have not tried it but it says you can reset it by holding down the side button for several seconds, which is nice.

I use it with electronic devices to save energy. Because of its small size, I think it consumes less power than the bulky type. Its price is also reasonable. I bought the 3 plug and 1 remote, which appears to be priced reasonably.

The remote battery is activated at setup, so it starts fresh and it is a silver metal, so it should last longer. it is a compact and reliable energy saving solution. They also have a telephone number if you have questions or need help.

Finally, I saw a warning about cancer and reproductive harm, but it is FCC approved so I assume it is just a legal protection for the company.

We purchased this item and received it on time. Easy to install, however the instructions do not specify that after plugging it in, no need to plug the appliance, in order to pair it with the remote control you need to press the button once until the light is ON and then when is ON you need to press again and hold it for a couple seconds until the light start blinking and then you can pair it.

Hooked two receivers up to wall sconces that plugged onto the wall, And the other to plugin bar that the bed lamps were plugged into and the remote controls all of them now. Very good investment.

Remote operated wall switch showed up ok but after a week of very minimal use it stopped working. I replaced the battery in the remote part but it still doesnt work. That’s a shame cause I actually liked it and thought it would work but I guess I have to buy from ebay now.

Worked good out of the box. Solved our problem. Well worth the price

To address other complaints below: 1. There are numerous 3rd party adapters which allow you to put this switch in a standard decora wall plate…a simple Amazon search will reveal multiple options, I use them all the time.

2. I too would LOVE to see this switch in any kind of black…I frequently design and build dark rooms and the only other hue comparable switch available in the US that come in black or any other colors are the runless wireless clock switches which I hate and they don’t work half of the time.

3. Biggest complaint about these switches and the current situation with HUE period is that they’re constantly sold out of everything I need (basically these switches and the GU10 bulbs) and usually with months long lead times.

Other than all of that these dimmers are great the newest version build quality is significantly better, if you get the hue dynamic app then you can add up to 10 functions per button greatly increasing the amount of pre sets you can cycle through.

Signify, please get your production and supply chain issues sorted so I can keep buying your products!.

I have a house full of V1 switches. They’ve worked well for me for almost a decade. Honestly, they’re basically perfect and changed how I interact with the lights in my house. More than half of my house lights are on these switches.

This v2 redesign adds a failure point: They changed dedicated separate on and off buttons for a on/off toggle. Which means you have to see the lights to know if pushing the toggle will turn them on or off.

If you’re turning outside lights on or off, it used to be that you just hit the button of whatever you want (Irrespective of the state the lights are in) and then walk outside. Now, unfortunately, it’s a toggle, so you have to physically see the lights to know if you’re turning them on or off.

I had thought that wasn’t a big deal, but it’s surprising how often in these old New England houses it makes sense to have a lightswitch inside for an outside area, or at the top of the basement stairs, etc.

On day 2 we had a situation where my wife turned the outside lights off, then I pressed the toggle button and accidentally turned them all back on, then we walked out to the car and had to walk back in to turn them off again.

Hopefully as they build out the software we’ll have some sort of solution for an absolute on button and an absolute off button. But as is, I’m going to have to juggle some old switches into new positions, for any lights we can’t physically see from the switch.

These works perfectly for my older home without a wall switch. Many of my lights had pull switches so without hiring an electrician I was able to hook these up myself. I’m back to buy more and sadly they are out of stock.

On/Off and dimmable, just enough features to keep the remote simple. Many of the so called competitors lights found online have too many features making their remotes confusing. I use these without the hub and just the assigned bulbs work when the remote is pressed.

No need to have my phone nearby.

Lutron Caseta wireless bundle kit is awesome is an awesome kit to have in your home. You can easily turn your lights / fans on / off either through the wall plate , through your app ( that you download to configure your switches & control switches) or through Alexa, Google etc.

Great touch for your smart home. The only tricky thing for myself was the initial set up, shutting off breakers & connecting devices. As I am no smart tech genius but I got it done the rest was easy.

Just plug in the box to back of your router , configure, use app and you’re good to go. ( After turning breaker back on). This bundle also comes with EVERYTHING you’ll need to change over your wall switch , you just need your own tools.

The great thing about the Lutron Caseta wireless bundle is even if you turn on lights from pressing the wall controller ( that you switched out for your older wall switches) you can still turn off using a different method.

So if you turn on through app you can still turn off via Alexa or the wall. You can also set timers making life just a little more simpler. If you have a smart house or looking to turn your home into a smart home Lutron is a great touch.

Making small simple things in your home even easier. I would definitely recommend Lutron.

I was thinking of doing smart lights or smart switches to control the lights of my house. After watching plenty of YouTube reviews I decided to go with switches for the better value. Most of the reviews said go with Lutron as its the most reliable and smart home friendly.

After a month of use I agree that these things are among the best things I’ve bought. They work each and every time! No real lag at all. Even though these are more expensive than others its worth the investment.

I plan on buying several more even to cover more of the house and get the Lutron window blinds. If you’re thinking between smart switches and smart lights also, do yourself a favor and take the extra effort to get switches from Lutron.

I have been using some sort f remote control devices for electrical and other items since the 1970s. They were quite expensive and very bulky and would not work well through walls. The Link2Home Wireless Remote Control system works very well within my home and yard and does not have any problems connecting between walls and the siding of my home.

I have them on some of my lights and they work very well with turning them on and off. Some have stayed on for several days and the units have not seemed to heat up only slightly warm. The remotes are operating ok, only it should have come with instructions for changing out the batteries.

On the end of the remote where you pulled the tab to let the battery connect there is a slot that you could stick a small screw driver and pry out gently and you will see a 2032 button battery if you need to change it.

I have not had to change the batteries yet so I do not know how long they will last, I guess it would depend on how you used the remote. The individual (5) plug in units are a little bulky you can only get two on a single 9 outlet surge protector that is the only draw back with them and you can only put one on a wall outlet.

The blue light indicates if the plug in section is working. You have to set up each remote with each outlet you intend to use with that one remote they will not connect to both remotes in my trials. I advise you to make sure you mark each outlet with a number on the outlet and corresponding number on the remote you will use to control that outlet.

I do not know how durable the outlets are but they seem to be well built. Only time will tell.

Great remote set! I’ve used multiple other types and these are the best I’ve seen. You can turn all 5 plugged-in items on and off at one time with the push of one button, or control each of the five items individually with the 5 individual on and off buttons.

Reception is excellent, goes around corners and even sends its signal flawlessly through a stone wall that is inside my house. It automatically pairs each of the five units with a button as you plug each in, but you can easily change the pairing if you like.

You plug something into these from the side so it doesn’t stick out like some others do. Included instructions are clearly written and easy to follow. I bought 2 sets and one set does not interfere with the other.

They work totally independantly from each other, even in the same room.

Needed to replace the remote for my Christmas tree lights. Found this multi-pack. Great -. It turns on my Christmas lights and the candles in the windows with one press of a button. Bought the one with 2 remotes so I turn everything on from our family room or the red room.

I needed to buy this years ago.

When I first got this, I was completely enamored and ready to buy one for every outlet. I never have to walk across a room to turn on or off a light again, muhuhaha! It’s an amazing idea, because it turns any outlet into a wall switch.

The downside — it turns on at random times without anyone touching the switch. I have our living room lamps on this, and it felt like we had a ghost–they would keep ending up on, even when we were sure we’d turned them off.

Now I’ve seen it first-hand several times. The switch will just turn on for no reason. My best guess is that it’s very sensitive to minor fluctuations in the power grid. It’s annoying, because I’ll routinely find them turned on in the middle of the night and have to walk downstairs to turn them back off.

I initially wanted to get them for our nightstand lamps, but definitely won’t with this recurring issue. Great idea, but disappointing implementation.

Does exactly what I wanted. I’m using on a lamp that has an unfortunate switch location. The switch plate has a vradle yoy mount to the wall. If you ever need the switch to be mobile, just slide out of cradle.

The switch looks like a switch you’d flip back and forth (think light switch) but each side of the button is a push to toggle switch. If you have a need, this is the one. Durable, well made, not huge and ugly like some others.

The GE wireless remote outlet with white Decora switch is a great cost effective option rather than that hiring an electrician. I should know because I am a certified journeyman electrician. Sometimes it is not cost effective and/or practical to add a switch to an electrical outlet especially if you live in an apartment or rent a home.

For example, you want to switch the lights on and off on your Christmas tree or other decorative stuff that requires 120vac. The GE can do just that and the remote can be set on a table top or mounted to the wall.

I my case it was undercabinet lighting in the kitchen that was quick and easy to just use the 120v recept that was located in the above range cabinet recept that provides power to the range vent. I would have spent a day cutting, notching, fishing wire, repairing drywall, retexturing, priming, painting, wiring of recepts and switches.

The GE made it quick and cheap to get the same result. One thing to remember is that this model comes in an “A” and “B” channel model which is important if you are wanting to switch two different items seperately or want to have remote switching of the same item from two different entry points ( a 3way type switch).

The channel letter is clearly marked on the back of the packaging but it does not have an explaination. Now you know what to look or ask for when purchasing Remote plug recept unit also has an bright blue LED indicator light to let you know your appliance has been switched on.

Plug in unit is powered by the 120 recept it is plugged into. The remote switch has a small battery that should last a while since it only requires momentary power for switching your appliance. Good luck.

The best outlet switch power plug w/remote(s) I have ever purchased. I been using power plug-ins for years. No other company can compare to Century’s. They are mini but the signal power range is unbelievable; going through several rooms and walls.

At night I can turn-off all my lights throughout the house without getting out of bed. Purchased several sets and, love the fact that even with multiple sets, the outlet’s signal do not interfere with each other.

Most definitely would recommend. Will buy this Century’s brand item as Xmas gifts.

I have a lot of decorative lamps and a few curio cabinets. These little remotes mean I don’t have to open glass doors or pull on delicate chains. I can turn lights on as I come into a room, or after I leave one.

They’re great at night for turning everything off, after I’m settled into bed. No tripping in the dark. Easy to set up; just plug them in. And with two remotes, I can set one at each door way. Very happy with this purchase.

With this unit, you cannot program the buttons to ANY pattern. It’s hit or miss. All 3 outlets work, but not according to your choice. I wanted each button to turn on one light. Button 1 turns on all 3 outlets.

Button 2 turns on outlet 3. Button 3 turns on outlets 2 and 3. Everything was programmed per instructions. This product is a great idea, but it just doesn’t work. I would NOT recommend buying this product.

Extremely easy to install, it took less than 5 minutes to have light. For years I’ve wanted a light switch instead of the pull chain on the light that goes up the stairs to my attic bedroom. Electricians cost a small fortune.

This product is amazing. I needed to purchase two packages because I needed a switch at the top and bottom of the stairs. Because of this I had an extra socket that I put in the ceiling fan that is in the actual room.

So now when I hit the switch and the light above the stairs comes on the fan light also comes on. No more worrying about the chain breaking or having to replace the piece that houses the chain that always seems to break after years of use.

I HATED my light above my sink that had a pull chain. So old fashioned. This worked wonderful since I had a completed backsplash and no place to really put a switch. The big button look is what I have in my house.

I stuck it with the double sided tape provided along side my outlet and you cannot tell it is not a electrical switch. VERY impressed. I’m looking to buy more in the future.

I use these all the time because my old farm house does not have light switches in the pantry and closets. I use florescent bulbs to keep the heat down but they only last about a year with very little use.

I have to replace then too often to be cost effective.

We are using this on a lamp by our bed. We have had light controls before but this one has its own holder making the remote portable. That is unique to the corded controls that have to be mounted next to the lamp.

If I need to light my way to the bed, I can easily place the remote close to the door and return it to the cradle later. It comes with hardware screws to attach the base anywhere you choose. We love this remote and it has a dimmer! You will be happy with this one if you are in the market for a lamp control/dimmer.

My father bought this for me for my room, I have 2 babies and he thought being able to dim my lights would help them sleep but still give me enough light to do stuff like read or anything like that. I love the fact that it has a remote it helps so much when I have one of the babies sleeping on me, I don’t have to move to turn the lights on or off.

In the morning I can turn on the light without getting out of bed. And in the middle of the night if a baby wakes up I can put it on dim and it won’t wake the other baby. Would definitely recommend to any parent!.

Got the opportunity to test and review the Dimable Lighting Control unit and I would have to say how handy this thing is. My husband took it upon himself to use this on the fan and have the remote thing that goes with it beside him.

No more of me complaining about having to turn it down so many times a night when he can adjust it directly by him! What a great thing to have as well for the lights when trying to get the little ones down and want to turn the lights down low!.

Bought two of these a day ago. Mounted the switches about 10ft from the plugs. 90% of the time they don’t work. Even tried replacing the batteries with high quality energizer one. No luck. You have to take the switches off the wall and get 3ft away from the plugs for the switches to work.

Get what you pay for. Junk.

I purchased two of these Westek wireless switch sets about 18 months ago. They were great. when they worked. Already two of the receivers have failed. I think Westek needs to amp up its quality control as the culprit is always the internal circuitry in the receiver.

It’s either a design flaw or, as I suspect, a subsequent failure of one of the elements of the circuit board. They seem to only be designed to last around 18 months. Not surprisingly, the warranty is 1 year.

This is NOT how you bolster consumer confidence in your products nor a model for long-term success in (any) business. Funny thing about customers. keep them happy, and they’ll keep coming back (and referring new ones).

And this simple tenet one doesn’t need a Harvard MBA to figure out.

I was really happy at first with this, and bought a second one. Then the lamp plugged into the first one quit working. And then the circuit breaker on the second one with a lamp plugged into it flipped.

Clearly the wiring in these are too cheap to operate safely.

I do not recommend these lights or any part of the system, and I will be returning the items I purchased. The C by GE web site paints a partial picture which while elegant and enticing does does not fully explain the negative features of the C by GE lighting products.

1. There is no support for Apple’s HomeKit. 2. The devises do not maintain a consistent connection with a network. 3. you must use the C by GE network to control your lights remotely, which I find a serious security risk.

4. your iOS device according to GE only communicates with the devices locally by Bluetooth (although I don’t believe this to be completely correct, since you can control the devises over the internet through WIFI and the GE C by GE network.

Given the state of technology that exists today, I believe these products to be far behind the technology curve. GE has chosen to confine control of these products to a proprietary network instead of giving the users the option of controlling their own security with direct local and remote connections with authorized and security controlled MAC addresses and direct network to network VPN or other secure connections to the products.

Unfortunately sales and marketing have taken precedence over security and user control, while GE has also decided to shun the Apple market.

Set up was OK and worked well initially. I had to change the battery (less than 2 years after initial use), set up again and less than 2 months later I had to change battery again. After doing so, I have tried to set up the device several times to no avail.

I have followed instructions, reset device and even green light is on but device does not turn lights on/off. I do not recommend this product.

A bit annoying to set up. You need the c by ge app to use properly; it will not let you use another app like google home to set up. Also the color switching only goes to different shades of white, I could not figure out how to make it switch RGB colors.

Quality at its finest! I have upgraded many of the switches in my home to smart switches. All of them had been TP-Link Kasa switches which I have been pleased with. I had one switch however in my dining room which didn’t have the necessary neurtal wire to use with the Kasa dimmer and was also to big for the old metal box.

I had tried replacing this switch a few times over the years, but could never get a smart switch to work. That was until I found the Lutron Caseta switch! This switch did not require a neutral wire and was much smaller in size and fit into the box easily.

Also the auto sensing line & load made setup a breeze. Once the switch was installed it took a few minutes to hook up the hub for use with Alexa. I think what made this switch even better is the wireless remote which can get mounted to the wall making it a 3-way switch! My wired switch is by the front door.

So anytime i needed to turn on the light I had to walk through the dining room to turn the light on. Now I can mount the wireless remote at the opposite end of the dining so I can turn on the lights as I enter the room.

The switch is pricey for a smart switch, but you can not beat the ease of setup and all the features it offers! I plan on buying more of these switches in the future.

I have installed Lutron caseta system for over a year and it’s working great. They are using their own connectivity protocol which appears to be very stable. I do use this system with Google Home. I have installed a combination of dimmers, switchers and pico remotes around the house.

The Pico remotes work well for creating a 3 way switch. The customer support is good, it takes about 20 minutes to get in touch with them, but they are polite, knowledgeable and will guide you through the process.

Read the instructions beforehand and the installation is going to be easy (the bridge included). I have led recessed lights that work with dimmer. In general, I had no trouble with LED bulbs from Sylvania and Philips.

I found that even the quiet labelled Philips bulbs are buzzing but Sylvania bulbs are way quieter. I have 1 LED light fixture that is not compatible with Lutron switch/dimmer because the load wasn’t large enough (I don’t remember what is the threshold but the customer service people do know).

There is a workaround using a LUT-MLC capacitor that I found on a forum, but personally, I didn’t bother.

I recently got into home automation and I wanted a long term solution, so smart bulbs we not really an option. I picked up some cheap wifi light switches. They work well and do the job, but they weren’t going to work with all of my light switches due to the house wiring.

Enter Lutron Caseta!! These switches are amazing!! They operate on a hub, so I don’t have a bunch of devices on my wifi. Just the hub. Speaking of which, the hub is small and doesn’t take a lot of electricity.

In fact, I power mine from a USB port on my wifi router. It has a modern look so it goes well on a shelf, a hutch, or an entertainment center. The switches themselves work great. They have a lighter tactile feel than I prefer, but they are of good quality.

The wiring is fairly straight forward. The best part is the optional pico remotes. For multiple switches on the same circuit, you can install the a pico remote and not have to worry about wiring issues.

And the remotes can operate multiple circuits. So, I’m our bedroom we have 1 remote for two switches. This way, if we leave the room we do not have to go all the way to the other side to shut off the light nearest the closet.

Which was really annoying before this solution. I plan to do the same in my kitchen since the builder installed 3 different light circuits for a our small kitchen. These light switches haven’t failed me yet.

We use the Alexa app for home automation and the automation is solid. The cheap switches I installed in my garage have become unresponsive a few times, but not the Lutron switches!! The price is the biggest constraint.

These are $50-$70 a piece!! You can find deals and the initial purchase of this package deal helps, but they start to add up. Just be mindful not to order more than one package with the hub. I almost ended up with more than one hub because I wasn’t paying attention to what I was ordering.

Even with the price point, I give the Lutron Caseta switches 5 stars.

I needed to delete a chain pull switch and have a wall or counter switch for a light over a kitchen island. I installed the switch under the lip of the counter so it’s easily accessible where you need it.

This was very easy to install and pair with the switch. Instructions were adequate but a little vague in a couple of spots. But it’s basically a no-brainer if you have the least little bit understanding of house wiring.

If you don’t, you should find someone who does. Perfect for my application and I have no regrets.

Relatively easy to install. The directions are pretty basic but they do have some nice pictures that show multiple configurations. Pretty easy to figure out from there. I am using in a pretty small room so I cant speak to how well it works in a larger space.

I slipped the end of the antenna outside of the base ring of the light fixture I used to ensure a good connection to the remote. Mounted the remote to the wall where a standard switch might go using 3m sticky tape so I can move it later if need be.

This wireless light switch was very easy to install, has a great range, and a small enough to fit behind my outdoor light fixtures without modifying the housing. The switch looks nice and stylish and the overall quality was exceptional.

The instructions were thorough and helpful and the set up was easy and quick. This system made my otherwise on usable outdoor lights much easier to use. It shipped fast it was a great price. Overall I am very pleased and would recommend this product to anyone.

Brand new out of the package I expected it to actually work. Bought it for my tree and Christmas village. Remote works great for turning things on but barely ever works to turn them off. Tried 2 different plugs and can turn them on from across the room but they won’t turn off even when you’re standing right next to it and pointing the remote at the receiver.

I will be returning this item.

Work great but I bought for 2 different rooms on different floors and opposite ends of the house and they actually controlled them from the other rooms so they are useless in one room. I’m talking 100 yards and a first floor and second.

Crazy.

THESE REMOTE CONTROLS WORK GREAT===RIGHT NOW I HAVE THE THREE OF THEM CONTROLLING THREE INDOOR CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS WHICH I CAN CONTROL FORM MY RECLINER. I WOULD WITHOUT A DOUBT RECOMMENT THEM.

This is seriously the best lamp I have bought!! I have been doing nails for 13 years and for the money you cannot go wrong. it cures EVERYTHING and it cures it QUICKLY!! It does get a bit warm in temp for the client by the end of a service, if you don’t move quickly, or if they stay in for the full 60 sec each round.

I defineately would reccommend this!.

The cheap price always goes with the cheap quality. I think this one was used and the charger is not original thats why the plug is not tight. The light is just on and off. Need to hold it when using.

But anyway, polish is still dry.

It’s really bright and easily controlled. Easy to hide in a corner for real estate photography. Nice extra light to light a trail in the dark. It’s handy but I wish it came with it’s own foot and I wish it could be tilted.

Installation was easy. Wires come pre-spliced. Setup is straightforward. Just follow the instructions. My only gripe, (opinion) is the Wemo app could be simpler to use. If you want your lights to turn on and off at set times, require rules.

Each rule you input only does one thing. For example, setting your lights to come on requires one rule and turning them off requires another rule. However the app does have an easier alternative. You can simply set your time zone and have the app turn on and off during Sunrise and Sunset.

Let’s get the bad stuff out of the way. The Wemo smart light switch takes effort and patience to install. Fidgeting with electric outlets might be a daunting proposition for many. However, if you’re up for the challenge, and you follow the installation instructions diligently, the reward is worth it.

Otherwise, hire an electrician. The mobile application for Android is an acquired taste. The onboarding experience and the general user experience of the app leaves a lot to be desired. The app is in desperate need of usability designers and experienced Android engineers that are well versed with the Material Design guidelines from Google.

The app is slow to load and has no offline support. The state of Wemo devices is often not properly reflected in the app. Setting up rules is not intuitive and can sometimes be frustrating. And even when you do manage to set them up, rules can sometimes be unreliable and finicky.

You will certainly devote a lot of time to getting acquainted with the idiosyncrasies of the app, and the peculiarities of rules. In summary, the user experience of the mobile application is the worst aspect of the product.

In my opinion, Wemo needs to trash the current application and devote the needed resource to redesign a new one from the scratch following thebest design and engineering practices for their respective mobile platforms.

While we are at it, in addition to the mobile apps, a Web frontend should be thrown in for good measure. Right now, the mobile application is a tolerable mess. Now that that’s out of the way, let’s tackle the good stuff.

The Google Home integration is the best thing that ever happened to Wemo smart devices, including this light switch. The ability to turn your lights on or off with your voice, using colloquial natural language, is a magical experience that you’ll never get tired of.

Just link your Google Home smart speaker to your Wemo devices via the Google Home app. Optionally, assign the device a nickname and a room, and you’re off to the races. It’s a seamless one-time procedure.

And it’s worth the investment in smart speakers. By the way, Wemo also supports the Echo, the smart speaker from Amazon. Rules are the reason you should invest in home automation and smart devices, like this light switch.

So what is a rule? A rule is simply an action you can schedule. Once scheduled, the rule will automatically manage the action(s) linked to a device. For example, you can setup a rule to automatically turn on the outdoor lights at sunset and off at sunrise.

I have a rule to keep the kitchen lights on for 2 minutes when motion is sensed. Of course, you’ll need a motion sensor for this. Wemo has discontinued theirs, but you can find them on Ebay. All my Wemo devices are on a timer that automatically turns the device off.

In short, rules allow you to automate the behavior of devices with little to no input. Used judiciously, rules can cut down your energy bills. In my opinion, this is the reason you should invest in smart light switches, like this one.

For the home automation nerds, integration with IFTTT is excellent. And there is even integration with other home automation smart products like the Nest thermostat. You’ll need a reliable Internet connection, preferably broadband, and a premium wireless router (I’m partial to the mesh WiFi routers from Google) for any sort of smart device or home automation products to work optimally.

Also, don’t forget to update the firmware for the product immediately after installation. Enough rambling. Other than the mediocre mobile experience, this is a great product. So much so that I plan on eventually replacing all the light switches in my house with Wemo light switches.

I purchased two of these switches six weeks ago. Installation took approx 1 hour for both, which are housed in a 4 switch box with two of them now being WeMo. There are a few things I experienced with this product:1) You require a 3rd (neutral) wire for constant power to the switch in order to maintain the wifi connection.

Modern homes have these and are usually in the back of the electrical box tied together with a marette. A moot point for most, but still worth noting;2) The android app is buggy and took several reboots on my phone to get the switch set up and connected to wifi.

Once set up, the app has been stable and easy to use;3) The android app requires improvement as the “devices” and “rules” for those devices are on two separate tabs. Belkin needs to rework the app so that you can tap on a device and set rules within the device.

Having two tabs is confusing and requires multiple rules for one device. I should be able to set “sunrise-sunset” as one rule and implement the parameters within that one rule. Instead, I have to make two separate rules for each device – one for on, the other for off (unless its auto-off).

The GUI for the app is the weakest point of this product. Once Belkin gets enough complaints it might help point them into a more “user friendly” direction making the app more intuitive with a better layout.

These have been out a couple of years and even though I”ve used them for the past six weeks, they are working well and the wifi connection is stable with no interference issues. PC Mag did an article when they first came out that you can read as well.

The two features I like most about this product are: 1) You can set up multiple “rules” for one switch. I have these two switches set up to control our outdoor lights – one for our porch and the other for perimeter lighting.

The porch light is set to “sunrise-sunset” with a 15 minute delay after sunset and 10 minute “off” before sunrise. Wemo gathers your location either by way of GPS on your phone or by entering your location manually.

It then knows the daily times for sunrise-sunset and follows that. Our perimeter lights are set to turn on and shut off at preset times AND shut off 20 minutes after being turned on – regardless if its at the switch or through the app.

2) Peace of mind: As we come and go at all hours, we would often head out and leave the lights on for hours at a time. That”s no longer an issue and we can turn our lights on as we head home or once we roll into the driveway, giving us some peace of mind that we”re not going to drive over something or slip on ice we can”t see in the dark of winter.

If you”re a night owl or shift worker and come and go at zero dark thirty – this is a handy addition to your home.

The only remote switch that I have tried that actually works. I have tried other ones and they require a battery and even with a new battery they quit working after year. This one doesn’t need a battery and has been working for three years with no problems.

I bought this to replace a similar item that had quit working and had been discontinued. This was a good replacement at a reasonable cost. I like that the remote switch does not require a 9 volt battery like the previous one.

I wish it also included a manual switch where the receiver is located, but I will just have to learn to live without that feature, It isn’t a deal breaker by any means but would be nice.

perfect for my old house. So happy with the result. If I were to say anything specific would be that it would be nice to have a casing that is more ornamental so that if would fit the decor just a bit better.

After researching and considering many options I went with the WEMO system as it overall had good reviews and is Apple HomeKit compatible. In the end I am generally satisfied in the first weeks of use though find that there are a lot of issues with the app and losing previously connected units when adding new one’s.

This seems to be a wifi and software issue that should be fixable in future firmware updates(?). In regards to the switch they work well and of course function without the app and HomeKit. I would add that a metal backplate would work better as the plastic is on the thick side for some wall plate covers and can be stripped easily if you are not careful.

Lastly, the for this switch in specific it does not work well with a motion sensing floodlight as it fails too respond to motion after the light cycles off the first time. If I set an automation to have the light turn off after this initial cycle it then works fine, but I should not have to rely on hacks like this to get proper function.

After a quick installation, I connected the switch to the wi-fi mesh and opened Alexa to set up a routine. This was not necessary with my just-installed smart dimmer; it was detected by Alexa at connection and worked flawlessly without me setting up a routine, responding to on/off/dim commands without me opening the Alexa app.

The 3-way switch appears to require a manual set up and for the first few days, didn’t respond correctly to the routines, “turn on/off master bedroom”, flickering but remaining off/on or doing the opposite of the command.

This is most likely an Alexa issue but I mention it because of the contrast with the smart dimmer which self-introduced and set up routines in Alexa without my intervention. The switch now seems to be working correctly without any further corrections.

We are a huge fan of Wemo having installed dimmers, light switch and plugs. The dimmer is particularly excellent for our front porch lights which were too bright—now, they come at 25%. The software can be a bit challenging to link more than one device to the same timer schedule.

But, now I have switches in 2 different locations in the house turning on and off at the same time. A few words: —Wall switches require the use of the white neutral wire in the back of the box. Your original switches most likely did not use this wire.

But, it’s there. These are WIFI switches and use it. —Be patient once the power comes up. The app will find them as long as they are closer. The set up can be a bit clunky for the first time—be patient—it always works.

—Make sure you are using your 2. 4GHZ WIFI network. We have a 5G and a 2. 4 for other devices. If your phone is using the 5Ghz network, you need to choose the 2. 4. If you have disabled 2. 4, you need to enable it and use it.

Once you set up the device on 2. 4, you can set your phone back to 5 and it’s all good. —The dimmer is not available with 3 way option. Understand this is more challenging—but, should be easy to accommodate WEMO.

—The light switch requires a software update that WEMO is pushing out. Very important because the switch will not turn on and off on the button. The patch fixed it. It can take a bit of time to upload firmware to the light switch.

These are, effectively, mini computers. Otherwise, WEMO, keep improving the product as you are doing.
