20 Best Winter Tires For Wrx (2023 Updated)

On a Cadillac SRX4 these have been the worst winter tires I’ve ran in 17 years driving. I drive around 30k km per winter in the worst conditions imaginable as an oilfield worker, so I know a good set of tires.

Bought these for my wife’s vehicle based on positive reviews. The other reviewers are obviously driving in mild conditions at best. These tires are junk. Got a flat from gravel on a highway in the first week, rock penetrated the tire.

They don’t evacuate slush at all, the tread blocks are too tight to evacuate snow or grip in loose snow/slush, and they are terrible on ice, both starting and stopping. They are so bad that after only one winter we are running them all summer to wear them out so we can buy a better tire for this coming winter.

My wife drove my truck with Toyo Open Country CT’s on it all winter instead because she hated these tires on her CUV so much. Save yourself the money and buy anything but Goodyear or Michelin winter tires.

Absolutely garbage tires.

Got these babies as recommendation of my Mazda dealer. I cannot compare this to anything else as I haven’t driven on any other winter tires. But they do their job pretty well. Starts on ice as well or better than AWD cars beside me, stops on ice twice faster than cheap all season tires.

On the snow feels like on the asphalt. In general pretty confident ride in very bad conditions. Drove it through mountain passes, snow storms, pure ice, fast highways for 3 years and very happy with how they perform.

There is still about 80% tread left after 50000 – 60000 km on them. One negative thing – compare to mine all season OEM these guys are pretty LAUD. But they are also pretty grippy :D.

When I see people sliding all over the place, I think they’re simply not prepared. If they had a set of these on their car, they wouldn’t be sliding! Braking performance is the biggest gain you will notice with this, but acceleration from a complete stop is much easier on all frozen surfaces as well.

So far since I have installed these on my fwd 2008 cobalt, we have had freezing rain that glazed the road, and several snow storms. Driving on those road with these tires is still something you need to be cautious of, but these will provide much more confidence.

Fantastic tires. My only other winter tire I have ever owned was Hankook winter iPike’s (I have owned many sets on various vehicles) and overall they are superior to these goodyears, but these are much less expensive and are a good compromise.

I recommend them.

I bought a set of these for a RWD Ford Ranger. The noticeable stability that these tires bring is second to none. I chosen not to stud the tires and had no problems at all going through any winter condition.

It felt like my RWD ranger was a 4×4. The high amount of Sipes and snow groove technology is really evident in the tire. These tires hug the road and I have noticed big difference in shortened braking distance.

I would put them up against a Michelin tire any day of the week. You cannot go wrong with having these tires on your vehicle.

This is my first pair of snow tires, and so far they’ve been worth every penny after 500 miles of dry highway, snowy highway, and a mixture of plowed and unplowed backroads. They look and feel and drive like light-truck tires, and that’s not at all bad.

A little road noise is noticeable on the highway, but the peace of mind is preferable to a harder tire that might be more quiet. I’ve tested them in a Top 10 all-time snowstorm in Duluth, MN (post Thanksgiving 2019, 24 inches in 24 hours), and they did very well maintaining traction during turns, starting, stopping, and tracking straight in several inches of snow.

The roads were really horrible even after a day of plowing, but the tires made everything stress free even while the plows struggled to keep up. When it came time to actually break free from the snowbank where my driveway used to be, I don’t know if I would have made it out without these tires.

They did spin a little, but instead of spinning, heating up, and smoking like regular all-seasons, they instead sucked the snow into the tread, hooked up, and got me going with 6–8 inches of snow underneath my vehicle (and thus directly behind the front wheels).

I have no AWD. The tires did all the work. The difference in winter performance over regular, all-seasons is noticeable, to me at least. The FWD vans I have driven generally do well in snow, but often feel sketchy/out of control due to their harder rubber tires.

This is the biggest difference I notice about the Evolutions, and really all snow tires—the softer rubber plus the tread really do work. On the interstate, they tend to start to howl a little above 65 mph.

I don’t notice the noise as much at 45–55 mph on county roads where I normally drive. If I had to drive hundreds of highway miles on dry pavement every week for work, for example, I’d probably chance it with softer all-seasons.

But since I use the interstate sparingly, I’m all in for the winter rubber. It remains to be seen how well they wear. I hope to get two or three winters out of them, November to March, but we’ll see.

I have purchased several pairs of these tires for winter driving. They do a great job in snow. They are not a long lasting tire. Longevity is not why you buy these tires. Ideally you should have an extra sets of wheels to put these tires on and run them for the winter season and then remove them to store for next year.

They seem to wear pretty fast and they may not be useful for the following winter if you leave them on all year.

The tires are much better than what i had on pre snow however it is to early to judge how they would perform in winter. I had the most horrible experience changing them though. Took me 3. 5 hours and another hour to get the lug nuts that carling branch did not have.

When i finally got back my van one hubcap was sitting proud of the rim they told me thats how it came. They took it back in and tried to convince me that it came so. I wash my ban every week and know for a fact it was not like that.

One of the tec guys told me it’s just plastic. You competition replaced 4 tires on our other car in 24 min. Just saying !.

The problem with this tire is the poor rubber flexibility in temperatures below -10C, the rubber gets so stiff it gets very poor grip even on dry pavement. I also have some Toyo and Michelin winter tires and the rubber on those is still quite flexible in low temps.

So these WinterCommand become quite scary by -12C, still decent grip in fresh snow, but skating festival on anything else.

Solidly four stars. These tires are significantly better than the more than double the price winter tires we purchased previously. My only issue is that they’re still a little slippy when starting from stopped on icy conditions.

Generally though, I feel like they’re really gripping the ground and I feel secure when driving in winter conditions.

Great tires for the money and I believe underrated and or overlooked by many. The tread groove directional pattern is excellent on both snow and ice. This tire is slightly narrower through the road contact mid section thus allowing greater transfer of weight to the road surface.

It is the opposite to summer requirements as a narrower tire provides better surface grip. This is a snow tire not a mud and snow or 4 season hybrid which is ok in the city but a mess in a country setting.

All channels including the ice channels go to the base of the tread not like some tires where the grooves stop halfway. The soft rubber compound stays flexible at low temperatures and this tire I find is much lighter that a lot of other snow tires I have had, It is also an attractive tire once mounted on a rim unlike some bulky versions.

It also rides quiet on the road on my older f-150 fx4. Love this tire and recommend it to anyone on a budget looking for a great snow tire.

Purchased 4 Winterforce tires. Have had extremely good luck with these in the past. Since mounting them on the vehicle, my vehicle was in the shop 3 times with what we thought were alignment issues – in addition, the performance in the snow didn’t compare to Blizzaks or Arctic’s I have on my other vehicles.

We decided to switch back to the previous tires and it drove straight as an arrow. In compliance with their policy, since they were mounted and had roughly 100 miles on them, I understand I could not return them; however I would have liked to purchase another set from Priority.

I could not get a reply from Customer Service about if there would be any assistance or discount in another purchase. Don’t waste your time with wholesale, support a local shop where if there is an issue with your tires, the warranty is hassle free and you’ll have support.

The tread on these tires makes me think I can go through any type of snow, slush, rain or hail. The tread is deep and the tires look awesome. I have not put them on my car yet, because I have a smaller set of Firestone Winter force on my car.

These tires must wait till next year but if they are as good as the 16 inch Firestone snows I have on there now—I will be super happy. The shipping of your tires to me “WAS SUPER QUICK”. Thank you muchly!!!!!!!.

I have these tires on our 2014 Volkswagen Jetta GLI (225/45R17 94T) and I love them! Even in the low to the ground and front wheel drive Jetta, I constantly pass stuck SUV’s and trucks in snowstorms.

Amazing grip in snow, ice and slush. I always feel in control. They ride well and they are quiet enough. I’m really impressed with these tires, they are now part of my recommendations!.

Came on a 2WD 91 Ranger I bought in 2007. I live in the country and often need a little extra traction. These have given me great traction on snow, mud and ice. I’ve had good tire wear. I’ll be buying new ipikes when I’m ready to replace them.

I have used Hankook iPike snow tires for many years now and have never had an issue with them. They have incredible performance in all road conditions and wear quite well. I have recommended them to many friends and family members who were all also very impressed with them.

I drive pretty spiritedly and I average about 30-35k miles per set and run them year round without rotating them. They can be studded, but I have never had the need for it as they grip very well without.

I live in upstate NY in the Finger Lakes region and don’t have enough ice roads to warrant studs, these tires simply grip well enough without. I drive a 2000 Saturn LS1. Also these tires are rated for a heavier load, so they would be good for a light truck or SUV.

This is the toughest four ply tire I have ever owned and I have purchased over a dozen of these tires in the last few years. Quiet ride and the traction year around is superb. I keep these tires on all the year around here in Montana where roads punish all tires all the time and these tires are just plain tough.

Mud, rocks, snow, ice and it makes no difference to these made of iron four ply tires. Handling like any other passenger tire, but do they ever prove themselves all the time. They say “Winter” on them, but just leave the studs off and get the biggest bang for your buck with these amazing goodyear tires.

These tires have exceeded our expectaions by a mile. We had them put on last week and the same night we picked up our 2wd Chevy S10 from Walmart, we had a snow storm of a couple inches of wet slippery snow.

On our 30 minute drive home, we passed several vehicles that were going around 20 mph while we were able to go the full speed limit of 55mph without any trouble. I did put 280 lbs. of sandbags in the bed over the rear wheels but I never expected the traction to be so good on a lightweight pickup like ours.

With the previous tires, the truck would break loose from the road even in mildly damp rain conditions.

I have used both the winterforce and the winterforce 2 on my Chevy S10 for several WV winter seasons now and my S10 is 2wd. And I must say that I have no trouble getting around anywhere I need to go, interstate included.

First set of 2’s I got, I decided to get all 4 studded, but I found the front tires felt vague (steering wise) because of the studs. But I removed the studs and I loved the front tires and they handled great after that.

I can only imagine how these tires are on a AWD or 4wd. Highly recommend these tires. Saved my life on several occasions and I will continue to buy them till they come out w a WF3.

I normally use a different brand of snow tire, but time & availability dictated that I try a different tire. I put them on my 2002 Toyota Avalon and headed east into a winter storm on I-90. Between the Montana border & Missoula there was a period of over an hour where I didn’t see another vehicle going the same direction as me.

Deep snow and near white-out conditions but these tires just pushed ahead, never giving any hint of slippage. I drove them safely through the storm then onto cold & icy conditions in Wyoming & Colorado on our way to Florida.

On the return trip we encountered more winter storms on our way to California. At Donner Pass we were forced to chain up just because we didn’t have 4WD. I drove just far enough to get out of sight of the patrol station, got out & removed the chains, then headed on in much better conditions that we had driven through in Montana.

I would highly recommend this tire for deep snow as well as compact snow & ice. They have performed much better than expected.

I run these tires on all my vehicles winter and summer. Great wet traction in the rain and excellent traction in the snow. We need to get out in the winter and live in the boonies so good snow tires are a must.

In the summer, living on a dirt road means mud and these tires handle slick mud roads as well as they handle snow covered roads. I run off road in the summer getting into and out of farm fields so good traction off road is a must.

These tires are a bit noisy but not offensively. They are directional tires so they must be mounted according to the directional arrows on the sidewalls and rotated regularly. My recommendation is rotating them every oil change or 10,000 miles.

I recommend them for any type of hazardous driving, snow, rain or mud. If you have to go, these tires will get you there. The LT truck tires are rated 10 ply for heavy loading as well. I have a set (from Tire Buyer) on my wife’s SUV and with 20K miles on them, no apparent wear.

I live in Idaho and we get all types of weather. I purchased this set of FIrestones for the winter months that, sometimes, go from October to April. Four years later, they need replaced after leaving them on year after year, even through the summer months.

We probably put 25,000 miles on them over the course of four years but, remember, they are winter tires and we didn’t remove them at the end of winter. I would assume they would still have a lot of tread if we had done this.

As for winter driving, they performed very well. We never got stuck in the sometimes 8 inches of snow in our long driveway. We never slid off the icy roads, and we had roads that were straight ice a few times last winter.

I am impressed with the tires and would definitely buy again.

Pricey, but worth every penny. If you’re driving a small or mid sized car in winter weather then this is the tire for you. I have no complaints – even at this price.

In SW Missouri when the road ices even a truck in 4wd with chains can’t stay on the road. These on my Fiat worked effortlessly driving past trucks. Big sigh of relief now for medical appointments.

I actually have no idea if the tires are any good. I ordered 2,only received one. They are giving me the run around. They say it was delivered. They say they are checking into it. This happened 11/8 it is now 12/3 they said it would take 10 to 15 days to look into what happened to my other tire.

Just not good service.

****UPDATE 1/20/2020**** Finally, 5 inches of snow on top of a tenth of ice and the tires didn’t leave me stuck in my tracks. I got to take them on the express way and at 80+ these tires are very loud but whatever, that’s not what they were intended for, right? Anyways lets get back to the snow and ice which these tires were designed for, are they as good as the top dollar winter tires, not quite but for the money you can’t go wrong.

I’m extremely satisfied with my purchase now and if I only get one season out of them they are still worth it. Good Job NEXEN, you will have a repeat customer. **UPDATE 12/9/2019** So it has been a month and the road noise has pretty much gone away, still waiting for the first real snow fall and I will update when that happens but so far I am starting to feel a little better about these tires.

If you live somewhere you get a lot of snow I would pass, its a decent tire for light snow and that’s about it. Of course if you stud the tires then I’m sure they’re amazing. A very balanced tire, had to remove all weights and out of the 4 only one required very minimum to be balanced on the wheel.

Road noise is pretty annoying, around 55 it starts humming and at 60 it sounds like a bad wheel bearing. On slush or icy roads its no better than an averagetire (unless they are studded). You if need new snow tires and are on a very tight budget then yes I would recommend them but for and extra $100 per set you can get a lot better tire.

For the price these are great tires. I normally run blizzacks during the winter. But didn’t want to spend 800 on tires as Im Going thru some stuff right not that is financially draining. Bought these instead and I like them braking and cornering isn’t as good as blizzacks but almost half the price.

Also these tires DO NOT COME WITH STUDS. which I knew that. So thats fine with me!!.

I was very skeptical at first because there was only 2 reviews …. Compared to others tires with 1,000s of reviews. I didn’t have a choice though these are the only full winter studded tires that fit my Chevy impala.

These must be new tires. But either way you will be so happy if you get these. Trust me I took the chance / risk for you lol. These do amazing in the snow.

I work in the industry so I’ve either drove or rode in a vehicle with all of main competitors. (X-Ice, Blizzack’s, ect. ) While any snow tire is 100 times better than any all-season and MOST all-weather tires in the snow; Very few of them can compete in the queitness and comfort categories when it’s just dry & cold outside instead of wet/icy & cold.

These Evo Winters are something special though! They’re more enjoyable to drive on than my current all season summer tires (Conti Tour A/S+). Granted, they won’t last as long as my summer set, I don’t really care either.

The drive is just more enjoyable. As for the other posts that you’ve read about them being noisy, I’m willing to bet they didn’t have the right people, following the best procedures, with the newest equipment available doing their installation.

For those of you not in the industry, simply ask your installer to take the time and get the road force readings AS LOW AS POSSIBLE. With Hunter equipment, it’s called 180*-matching. Basically the balancer machine measures the tire twice and then the tire is moved to be optimized on the wheel.

Usually the process costs an EXTRA $10-15/tire but when done correctly, it’s worth the money! Ask your installer and find out how out of round your assemblies are. If you paid for the extra service, they should provide you with a beginning measurement and a final measurement for each assembly.

If the measurements seem unusually high, the wheels that your new tires are mounted on may need to be replaced as well. Daily driving can bend wheels easily depending on road conditions and driving styles.

Typically for passenger rated tires on Hunter equipment, a road force measurement of 35-40 is “acceptable”. All the big manufacturers require a reading of below 20 in order to ship it on the car that they’re trying to sell to you.

Having the equipment and unlimited time, I got my set to read 7-10. The entire process took apx. 1 hour to complete by myself. Hopefully, this info helps a few of you pick out a great product and have the knowledge before installation to get the most out of your tire-buying experience! Buy these tires, pick out a REPUTABLE installer and ask about the equipment they have available before-hand.

I just bought theses tires 3 days ago and mounted them up the same night I got them. What a great tire for snow and ice ! I was driving in 6 inches of snow off road and they went any where without hesitation.

I did get mine studded and we had freezing rain following day after installing these tires and they handled great. I didn’t balance the tires and at 65 mph no vibrations no nothing. I have them on a 2 wheel drive 1500 Chevy pick up and have no doubts about getting where I have to go.

I parked my 4 whee drive pick up because with these tires on my 2 wheel drive pick up I go through more then with my 4 wheel drive !! I only have 150 miles on them but love them so far and will from now on run them ! It made my little pick up a tank ! Now I wanna get a set for my wife’s vet truck I like them so much.

Great tires. Came very quickly. Just cannot return for free if it’s the wrong size. Brand new tires purchased. Had some trouble with the tire place for the install. But that was not this sellers fault.

Just bad tire place in my area. Found another tire place to install them and they were great. My car does so well in rainy weather now with these tires. No slipping or hydroplaning. It grips the road perfectly.

The only issue would be if you needed to return. Just make sure you’ve got the right tires.

Provide an excellent ride and grip, minimal tire noise. We had some nasty ice and snow this last year, and I was never disappointed in the stability. Unfortunately, 2 of the 4 tires had an abnormal wear pattern (yes, I checked air pressure and alignment repeatedly, and rotated tires), and they were ruined after only about 25,000 miles.

So, safe winter tire, great grip, but not much wear in half of them I drive a Ram 2500 and tow trailers sometimes. Truck is lifted 2″ and has Bilstein shocks. About 20% of my driving is on a steep dirt road up to my home, the rest is highway.

I was a mechanic, and my vehicle is in great shape.

I can’t believe how wonderful these tires are for the price I live in the mountains so I do the installation on the rims by myself which is it for everybody but I will tell you that these are really nice tires for the price now I feel safe this winter.

Extreme tires for extreme conditions. Excellent traction on snow/ice. They are expensive but worth it.

i ordered this tire so it would be delivered on saturday the 4th. it is end of day wednesday december 8th and still have not received it yet!!!!!!!!!!! i had to cancel appointments to have it put on! they are not happy with me! where is it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

I give high enough praise to these tires! Put these on my 2017 Explorer Sport (20″ 255/20 R20) on Nov 22, 2018. I drive them ALL YEAR (I don’t switch to summer tires). Three years later I have put 85,000 km on the tire and there is still 3-4/32″ of tread left; but winter is upon us and it is now time for new ones (if it was summer, I could go a few more months on these tires).

The Ford factory supplied tires lasted 1. 5 yrs and 49,000 km. Excellent winter handling, no noticeable increase in road noise, excellent summer handling. If you run these all year long, you save $200 per year in tire swapping each season and hassle of storing tires.

After 3 years, I have saved $500 by not swapping tires which is 41% of the cost of new tires. So, even if you don’t get as long of tire life, it is still cheaper than buying summer and winter and swapping them each season.

This tire has the best traction of any winter tire I have ever used. It also is pretty decent on bare roads as well in terms of ride quality and noise. Doesn’t seem to negatively affect my gas mileage like others have.

Other reviews say they wear fast, but I am not putting many miles on my vehicles these days so I care more about traction than wear. So far I haven’t noticed them wearing faster than usual, but I haven’t really gone far enough to really notice.

OK, I have been driving for over 50 years and am sane, healthy and still working full time. These are the best winter tires I have ever had the pleasure of using. I have only had them about one month, but in that time I had driven in freezing rain, 30cm of unplowed snow, rain washing away the snow – then freezing and more snow.

I drive at highway speeds every day and at no time have I ever felt uncomfortable with these tires. They are used on a 2008 Ford Ranger pickup.

I had these tires on my ’95 Cougar and they were awesome I loved driving that rear wheel drive care in the snow. I just bought this set for my wife’s RWD Crown Vic. Hankook discontinued the exact size 225 60 R 16 for that car so I bought the next size up 225 70 R 16.

When changing tire sizes you have to do all 4 due to ABS / Traction control so you cannot upsize just the rears like I used to do decades ago. But Walmart wouldn’t mount them for me because they didn’t match the size listed on the door.

I checked clearances prior to ordering and knew there would be no issues. Soooo I had to take the car home put it on jack stands pull all the wheels off and truck them down to walmart where they mounted and balanced them as carry outs then I put them back on the car.

Kind of a hassle but these tires are worth it in the snow, although I run them all year long as we don’t put that many miles on that car. BTW no clearance, traction control or ABS issues were encountered.

But the speedometer is slow by about 2. 5%.

I’ve ran the M&S studded for 15yrs on my 02 Excursion towing a 30′ snowmobile trailer all over CO and WY. They didn’t last long but were the best snow tire out there. Mostly had to worry more about someone sliding into the back of you when stopping.

Bought some snow claws for the wifes expediton and they work well – not as good as the M&S’s but are better than anything else I’ve tried. They are less noisy and more round than the M&S’s. Going to try a set on my new F250 this winter and see how they roll.

Seems like the compound is harder and they will last longer but that really isn’t a factor for me.

I’ve run Cooper discoverer tires in the past and these new snow claws do not disappoint! I live in northern Vermont and see every kind of weather and I’ve had some heavy snow, light snow that leaves a glaze on the road, rain, and dry conditions to tests them out.

No issues. Much quieter than my Falken Wildpeaks. I pretty much have run every brand snow tire or severe rated tire on my Toyota trucks over the years and Cooper is always end my favorite. They are affordable and have never had an issue whether up.

towing my snowmobile trailer, out of the fire roads, traversing my friends insanely steep driveway, or cruising on a nice day in the Green Mountains. Cooper instills confidence without breaking the bank.

I bought these tires due to having the use of family cottage 400 km North of home. Driving there in the winter is unpredictable but I have made many trips this winter in different road conditions and I am very happy with these tires.

Quite and smooth enough for dry pavement and aggressive enough for snow, slush and ice. Truck hasn’t made a miss move with these tires on.
