20 Best Winter Tires For Trucks (2023 Updated)

So far these tires perform tremendously in the snow and slush. Only had them a month so we’ll see how the rest of the winter goes, but I have no doubt they will work perfectly for my needs.

Great except the black nut covers I got were too small for my vehicle. Would still order from them again any day – but will order extras elsewhere 😉

Put a set of these Pirelli Scorpions on my daughters 2017 Tacoma. This all weather tire makes for a great ride in her Urban/suburban environment. Expect only 50,000 miles for wear.

These tires are excellent! I just had to use them yesterday during the snowstorm with roads that were icy and snowy. Of course I had to be careful but my car maintained control at all times; I was able to break and turn without issues.

Bought these for my Toyota Tacoma. I commute 140 kms round trip every day from a small town in Ontario to a larger city in the GTA. Everyday I felt confident that no-matter-what the elements would throw at me these tires would do the job and get me through.

Installed, with tire pressure sensors, steelies, these were not cheap – but then how much do you value your safety? I have a friend who has put two words together and came up with Gription. These tires have it.

Just what I need for this winter (light to medium snow each year)

They were happy to take my money, but days after my order they cancelled it because they did not have the tires in stock.

I bought these tires to go on my daughter’s 2002 Chevy Impala. We don’t get a tremendous amount of show in Pierre, and what snow we do get often melts before the next snowfall. What we end up with are streets that aren’t always plowed (because of only an inch or two of snowfall) which become covered with packed and glazed snow.

It may begin to melt, but then it refreezes at night. We also have lots of hilly streets, so having tires that brake well on ice is a priority. These Winterforce tires performed well in snow, but they slid considerably on glazed snow and ice.

My daughter told me a few days ago that she slid into an intersection near our house, so being the suspicious dad who didn’t automatically believe her denial that she was not over-driving the road conditions, I took the car out to test it on the icy streets.

The Winterforce tires slid when braking and during acceleration. I took my wife’s car our to test her Bridgestone Blizzak tires with over 20k miles on them, and there was no sliding whatsoever at similar speeds.

Thankfully, the Winterforce tires were new enough to be studded. Now, $85 later, my daughter has a car that can handle icy roads. I wouldn’t recommend these tires to anyone who encounters more glazed snow and ice than they do snow.

If snow is your menace, these will do fine.

Ive had 2 pairs of these tires (13″ and 14″) and have ran them on 4 different vehicles (98 4dr stratus, 2 96 neons, and a 98 metro). They are an excellent tire for mud/snow. They are pretty soft and have an aggressive tread pattern, at least for a car tire.

These two features make them (in my opinion) unbeatable if you deal with snow of if you like to have a bit of fun in light off-road situations. Though i got great life (4 years) out of my first pair, i didnt run them year-round.

Cons: All of the things that make this tire great are also its down sides. Aggressive, deep tread means there will be a small amount of road noise at speed and you may get some wallowing up front if you take sharp turns too quickly.

The soft rubber compound means that you will get great grip, especially in summer, but you will eat them up quickly if you run them year-round, spin them a lot, or travel mostly on dry pavements. I once read that tires are like shoes; dont wear slick sandals in the snow and dont wear insulated studded boots on the beach.

Just use common sense with them. In all, i HIGHLY recommend these tires. They are extremely capable in mud and snow and have literally given me several years of dependable service.

In October 2020 we would soon need new snow tires for both of our vehicles so I started looking around at what was available. I previously had General Altimax Artic winter tires on my vehicle and even after 5 years they were still great in winter conditions but I figured it was time to replace them.

On our other vehicle we previously had Continental WinterContact SI Plus tires. My wife does more driving than me so I was not surprised these tires were wearing a bit faster but had provided excellent traction for three winter seasons.

According to Canadian Tire the Michelin X-Ice® SNOW was the top rated winter tire, just ahead of the Continental WinterContact SI Plus. (For some reason the General Altimax Artic tire had no CT rating despite having excellent customer reviews).

We purchased two sets of the Michelin tires and assumed they would be great in winter conditions. When winter weather finally hit we were shocked to find both of our AWD vehicles were sliding (fish-tailing) at the slightest sign of snow, slush, or ice on the roads.

Neither of us drive aggressively and had experienced no sliding of this type in similar conditions on our previous winter tires. These Michelin X-Ice® SNOW tires are the worst performing winter tires I have ever owned, especially considering their premium price.

Michelin touts the tires long tread life in their ads, saying that you can get an extra winter out of them compared to other brands. I have no doubt that this is the case but I’d rather have three seasons of excellent winter traction than four seasons of poor traction.

I wish we had went with the Generals or Continentals again. I don’t know how CT rated these Michelins as the top winter tire, They must have tested them on bare, dry roads.

This is my first set of winter tires. Have always just driven with all seasons. But felt I should really invest in a set on a Boxster with no traction control in the winter time. Tires are deceivingly good.

Creates confidence. But can be tricky and make you think you’re a better driver than you actually are. Had a couple of instances where the tail stepped out in a turn as I stepped on the gas but was able to catch it.

Also braking under cold and dry conditions was deceiving because my brain told me it would be better than all seasons cos it’s a winter tire. But I don’t think it is. But that’s on me.

With increasing gas prices, I decided to keep my car three more years so I took advantage of an end-of-winter sale and replaced my older Michelin x-ice tires with a new set. My car is hybrid-electric, so when it’s running strictly on battery, it’s very quiet.

After a month of driving, I cannot believe how much more quiet this tire is compared to the previous generation. I got a good price, a highly rated Michelin tire, and I’m set for the next three or four seasons.

The sales team was a bit of a fast-talking crew, promised a few things they did not deliver, like a Michelin rebate directly from the manufacturer, but overall, I am pleased and would recommend this tire without hesitation.

While the light truck has surprisingly limited choices in 16 inch rim size versus larger sizes, the reliability under loading and front to back treadwear is a greater concern due to it’s larger rolling resistance.

So, when I chose to buy snow tires as a pair to replace the front steering tire set, I wanted a good deep tread and strong sidewalls to avoid that really mushy almost folding inward feel at the wheel.

Even more, tire experts say putting a new set of any tires on the front give a greater thread depth in front and can result in spin around behavior because of the dynamics of misalignment of the steer wheels with skid direction, an action that may be unavoidable as an impact dodge input.

These have 3 or 4 more 32nd of an inch tread than most other snow tires to consider. The reason is that light truck drivers can pay for a new set of tires for what it costs to change all four tires every spring and fall.

In fact, my tire change service man says to expect 25,000 miles before wear-out if the new soft nano rubbers with high grip designs are used. Because the back set were another brand and more long wearing type of tire, I really wanted these as steering control tires, so that’s where I put them.

I had already broken convention by have a different brand and model and treadon steering than on back anyway. But pulling trailers a lot with up to 1000 pounds in the back hatch area of the truck absolutely mandates that kind of tire, especially pulling heavy equipment trailers and having any risk at all of fishtailing under loads.

While the 10 ply rating on these is a big sense of secure feeling, Im not sure I want them in back. Very rarely you feel the sidewall give at the wheel, but since they really are much quieter, you have to expect that I think.

Noise from rear wheels goes pretty much behind and gone anyway IMO. They do go over glare ice with almost no skidding, although nothing can do that if speed is not under 10mph or attack angle is too high or vehicle weight is too low.

Just looking at the big lobes at the edge tells a lot. Very good for skid control or avoiding getting a control loss turn into an actual side skid. Not so good for actually driving OVER snow cover or pack snow which lifts it off the surface more than narrow tires do.

If you keep a full tank of gas and have a larger engine and compensate with lower speed on snow covered surfaces, this tire is probably as good a tire as will be engineered without studs protruding from the tread blocks.

These tires are truly awesome, I know, the grand canyon is awesome, however these tires truly are the best of the best. Great traction wet or ice or snow. Will buy again if they last.

From worn tires to new tires is a noticeable improvement but no all season tire can compare in the snow. I was skeptical but with the first heavy snowfall I was blown away. Accelerating and braking maintained traction yet the turning ability on snow was the most impressive.

In a fwd car that is very prone to understeer, I turned into a packed snow parking lot that would always result in sliding straight forward with the wheels turned unless I slowed to a snails pace. Two days later in the same parking lot with the new Blizzak WS80, I turned in expecting a little slide but there was none.

I turned in again, off the pavement onto hard-packed snow, faster than I should trying to make it slide but it still followed its line. Trying to push it farther I grabbed the e-brake. With the old tires a quick grab and release of the e-brake would slide completely sideways and steering fully into it with gas was just enough to follow it back to straight.

With these tires the same grab and release of the e-brake was almost unnoticeable. Holding the e-brake while turning barely slid but was completely manageable. In conclusion. If you like drifting in the winter put a set of these on the front and keep your old tires on the rear.

If you want the best acceleration, braking, and most stable turning in the winter get a set of 4.

CT undercut other offerors in price, therefore I was not loyal to my former tire supplier for the first time. The tires have only been used in wet conditions, not in snow yet. My initial impression is great.

It is exceptionally good at channeling large amounts of water during heavy rain even at high speeds. The only drawback I noticed so far is that it is slightly noisy when it is riding across a solid water film on the road.

I assume it is the result of the sipes channeling away the water. Much better in stopping distance and in cornering in wet conditions than my brand name used summer tires. Overall I highly recommend it.

I bought these based on my previous experience with the Blizzak WS80 and the price. These tires are smooth and VERY quiet for Winters. My biggest gripe with the WS80s was a lack of traction on wet roads — these WS90s are much better in that respect.

They are also good in deep snow, but not that compact, “ball bearing” type snow, but then I don’t know if ANY tires are great in that type of snow. However, as I did with the WS80s, I feel the tires to be a little “swishy”, with a slight side-to-side motion at times, taking away some of that comfortable, “in control” feeling.

Treadware was not great with the WS80s, but I did a lot of bare road driving before I took them off, so I’m hoping these last a little longer.

I have been a big believer in Winter Specific tires for a long time after living above 9,000′ elevation in CO for 7+ years. For the past few years I have been keeping a AT with Three Peak symbol as a lower mileage, winter set to keep them as fresh as possible for winter driving.

This year I finally moved that set (Toyo AT2 @15,000 miles) over to my summer set, and upgraded to these Cooper M+S studded tires. Toyos did ‘fine’ for the first 12K as long as it wasn’t too icy and the snow didn’t get too deep.

However, there is no comparison to the confidence you get from a true winter tire like these coopers. Had just put a set on my wife’s car and loved them, so I decided the sale on the Load E Coopers was too good to pass up.

Very pleased with the purchase. Have driven in some of the iciest conditions my truck has seen yet, (passing several vehicles that lost control on high elevation mountain pass) and these tires performed flawlessly.

Climbing Steep Snowpacked road to our house required 4×4 with the Toyos (AT) and the Firestone (AT) Also, ride quality and balance was better than I had expected. The only ‘cons’ about these are that you should expect them to wear fast if you run them all year round and in warmer temps, and that you should keep an eye on the Sipe’s packing with small gravel that may affect the life and performance of the tire.

Neither of these bother me at all, since I specifically purchased the tires to run for 3-4 months a year, to insure safe driving & Towing in the harshest conditions. #sweepstakes.

I bought my third set of these early in 2019. I wrote a review of these back in 2010 and gave them 5 stars, and now I’m giving them 4 stars. I still feel these are very good tires but the design is getting dated and there are newer designs with a bit better traction out there as well.

When they’re worn to about half or more they are not as good in deep snow, which stands to reason. But even when they’re worn they’re still good on slippery surfaces like ice, and slushy roads, except from a dead stop.

It’s easy to spin them with a little throttle application from a standstill but once you’re moving they’re fine. Keep in mind I own a half ton pickup with no weight in the back. You will notice a drop in gas mileage with them but I suppose you do with most winter tires with large lugs like these.

Tires with tight block patterns are usually better on wet and icy roads but not as good in deep snow. If you live in an area with lots of deep snow, like Norther NB, Quebec etc you will love these tires.

If you live in area that doesn’t get a lot of deep snow and a mix of rain and cold weather like some parts of NS and BC you probably wouldn’t need such an aggressive snow tire.

I really like Cooper tires in general. Excellent tires, great value. I put these on a 2018 F-150 275 65 18 and did not get them studded. The tires were very good in deep snow/slush/moderate soft pack snow.

However any surface that was close to hard pack snow or ice for sure they performed poorly – no better than the All Terrain tires I took for winter. They were also very loud tires and took a fair amount of weight to balance.

The previous winter I had the studless Yokohama Iceguard and they were significantly better overall in all aspects including noise and comfort. My two bits are either get these with studs or look for a good set of studless tires for winter.

In sub-zero temps, this tire has performed great. I can not find a situation where these tires lose control. But they’re not perfect. These are not as good as the Hakka’s, X-Ice’s, or the Blizzak’s but I doubt anyone would actually notice in real conditions.

I will buy these again and save 30% over the premium winter tire options. If you need to drive up a 90 degree ice wall then sure the Blizzaks might give you the best shot. But if you drive like a normal person, even in terrible (Minnesota) conditions, these tires will do more than enough.

This is my second purchase of this brand of tire. My last set lasted 60k miles winter and summer no rotation done. If rotated would have gone further. Great in heavy snow conditions.

Im glad I bought my Nexen tires, once in my Rav feels sturdy on the road. The tread is excellent and they are excellent looking as well as workable, thank you!

I needed a tire which not only is great in the snow and ice of Maine, but also for the back roads during white water season. These have been just about perfect. Coming up on 10k miles and have used them in just about every condition imaginable from snow & ice to mud and rock, on old logging trails and Interstates.

So far these are exactly what I was looking for in terms of traction and durability with extra sidewall plies. They are slightly louder than the OEM tires but otherwise superior in every way. Thought I might have to stud them given all the icy roads up here but a few bags of sand in the back of the Taco and I am good to go, even up the steeper icier roads in the hood.

Handling has been surprisingly good on dry & wet pavement as well & I have noticed no problems with traction turning or stopping. Summers on old logging roads can be treacherous with lots of old logging junk strewn on the roads.

Have torn up two OEM tires hitting rocks and metal left behind. So far, not a sign of road damage. Hoping to get some good mileage out of these and so far, no signs of wear. Perfect tire for my environment!.

I drive an E250 van for a living and after installing these winter tires i am blown away by the traction you have an icey roads and also deep snow. The design has deep treads and even LOOK like they can take on snow.

I drive 10,000 Km per month through all weather conditions over every road type imaginable, so I was looking specifically for a tire to handle icy conditions, as that is the most dangerous in my travels.

I put these on a Chevrolet Express 2500, and they were absolutely fantastic in every road condition but ice. In fact, these were about the worse tires imaginable in freezing rain and on hard pack icy snow conditions.

However, absolutely the best rain tire I have ever used. They handle deep snow well. I found they gripped slush almost too well and I really had to grip the steering wheel. I was able to get 100,000 Km with a tire rotation every month (10,000 Km) over a straight 11 month period.

I only suffered 2 nail punctures, they are tough tires.

By far the best snow tire at best price. Police sheriffs I know use these tires on squads. I have owned every snow tire manufacturer from Firestone to Michelins this tire is quieter smoother ride and wears better.

AS long as you mount them as late as you can and remove them early you will get more then one season. Make sure your alignment is good. Bad alignment is the # 2 reason you would destroy these. #1 is driving these in super hot days.

I’ve owned Blizzaks since the WS-60 (2012 or so). While the different generations have their advantages, they are all great snow tires. These were a great deal. Bought 2 sets. Mounted and awaiting winter.

Best studded tires! If you don’t drive on ice/snow roads a lot, mostly on pavement, they will wear faster than other brands. If you are on snow covered roads all season, these are the best.

I bought this tires(two) for only one reason: to safety drive for Christmas Holidays to Michigan to my daughter. In Michigan Nissan dealership informed me that metal studded tires are prohibited by Law and I can face a big fine(more then $1,000) They also presented me with an extract from document from tirebuyer.

com, certifying that metals studs are prohibited in most of the states. I would never have bought them if the seller(Walmart) informed me ahead in his on-line web page. Today I returned them to Walmart store and I hope they will be refund me the full amount of the tires.

Tires, so far, have been great in the snow and ice. I was a bit surprised that they came with only 9. 5/32 tread new, especially after adding the “snow” to the tire name. I’m hoping that the tread is durable enough to get me through at least four seasons with that.

Today, I noticed that they are definitely prone to hydroplaning in moderate to heavy rain, so be careful. I would assume that possibly a slightly deeper tread might reduce that issue. If it wasn’t for that aspect, it would have definitely been a five star rating.

Long time Michelin X-ICE winter tire owner and we bought a new set for our Honda Ridgeline and these are great tires. Recently had accumulations of snow on our roads and these tires handled it like a champ.

Going from a dead stop to safe speeds is pretty much instant with little to no wheel spin. Braking is also great and as long as you RESPECT the weather and road conditions, you shouldn’t have any issues navigating through snow build up, corners or slippery bridge and on/off ramps.

Great tires and would highly recommend these if you’re looking for a winter tire.
