20 Best Winter Jackets For Extreme Cold Women’S (2023 Updated)

This is a comfortable all-purpose coat. The omni-heat is not as warm as down, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing. I can walk to the store, unzip when I arrive, and not overheat or feel overstuffed like I would with a down parka.

This winter (coldest day so far 16F) the coat has been warm enough over just a T-shirt while walking. That’s a pleasantly light feeling. Some reviewers complain that the sleeves are rather long. Not a problem for me as I have long arms.

I like the cuff snaps. When cinched the cuffs can go inside gauntlet gloves, and when uncinched, short gloves can go under the sleeves. Either way, the sleeves do not gap if I raise my arms. The armholes would be snug on me over a thick sweater, so a little more space there or preferably pit zips would be a nice addition.

The chest pocket on the outside is roomy for my phone, and I like being able to access it without opening the coat. Things don’t fall out of the upright lower pockets as they can with slanted pockets.

So, lots of good points, but some design critiques for the hood. Two inches more space at the back would make it a lot better. Right now if I cinch it, it puts tension on the back of the coat, which is annoying.

The lining does keep my ears warm. The hood’s fur strip tends to gap between the buttons – snaps at 1″ intervals might work better. And, this is a very minor nitpick, was it really necessary to put orange Velcro on the back of the olive coat’s hood? The other colors don’t have contrasting Velcro.

All in all though, a nice warm coat for winter weather and I’m a fan of omni-heat.

When my zipper broke on my trusty old winter coat it took FOR. EV. ER to find just the right one to replace it and this is IT! It runs true to size and is a slim, flattering cut, but not overly fitted, so I can wear my normal size with a sweatshirt underneath without feeling like I’m going to bust the seams.

It’s long enough to keep my behind out of the wind and is quite warm without being heavy or bulky. The heft of it is just right to feel like good quality without being overly burdensome and the lining is so silky smooth it goes on like buttah – no fabric sticking on fabric when you put it on.

I love the big pockets that actually have room for things AND close to keep them secure. One of my favorite features of this guy is actually the hood because the perfect hood is hard to find! It’s not too big or small and the faux fur trim is removable, which I love because I’m not normally a fur girl.

And I discovered that if you have the faux fur trim attached you can flip it forward for extra wind protection. It has a double zipper, so you can unzip the bottom and it’s long enough to need that for sitting or taking long strides, but the double zipper is the only thing I’ve had a bit of an issue with on this coat.

Sometimes it’s a bit sticky and takes a bit of effort to get both zippers on far enough to work. Otherwise it has been perfect for a cold, Midwest winter. Personally I find it a bit too warm if the outdoor temps are above freezing and I have a hard time shelling out $200 for any article of clothing, but lucky for me I got a wicked deal on it and I’m loving it!.

I cannot vouch for the performance of this jacket for warmth as I do not plan on keeping it. I do own several other omni-heat products, and I would say they are great for retaining warmth without the bulk, and more breathable than my Columbia jacket with just regular lining.

It is roomer than the usual sizing, in my opinion. I think this is great because I think it is expected that you can buy your usual size in a winter jacket, but be able to fit at least a heavy sweater inside and still be able to move! I wish this jacket had pockets from the side that is easier to slide hands in (and line them with flannel), but I did like that there are large pockets that are secured with snaps.

I also liked the length of the jacket. Having a jacket that covers the bum and top of the thighs really makes a difference in a cold prairie winter! What ruined the jacket for me was the removable faux fur trim for the hood.

It sticks, out at the ends and you have no way of tightening the hood around your face. The faux fur was really cheap and came flattened and I don’t think the material is going to be “fluffable” and is thin to start with.

In this case, it would’ve been better to have no fur trim, and just have a string or cord that allows you to tighten the hood around your face. I also disliked that it went on sale for $30 less just a few days after I bought it! Also Columbia – I’ve put in my return info on your website correctly multiple times and it doesn’t recognize my order.

I’m pretty chapped about that, because now I have to phone, but couldn’t because for some reason, Nov 25 is a closure date for the company. Grr.

I bought this jacket for myself while it was on sale. It’s great! Super warm and cozy! The materials are smooth and comfortable, and the fit is stylish. It’ll look great with casual looks, but I think it’ll also go well for slightly dressier occasions because of the classic looking style.

The zipper pulls move effortlessly. I haven’t tried them with gloves on yet, but they’re not too fiddly without gloves, so I expect them to do well. My only complaint is the sleeves. I have very long arms and torso, and it’s very difficult to find jackets that fall at my wrist and below my hips.

My preference is for sleeves to come down on my hands a little, which makes finding a comfortable jacket even harder. I thought if I ordered a Tall, that’s the sleeves would come down onto my hands a bit, but they don’t.

They still come down right at the wrist, which is great compared to regular jackets, but I guess I was looking at the pictures for this jacket too much and expected it to land like the sleeves on the green jacket does in the pictures Eddie Bauer lists.

The torso fits great though, and the sleeves aren’t a big enough issue to me to return it, but just keep in mind that the sleeves don’t come down passed the wrists even in the tall. Otherwise I’m sorry happy with this jacket and I’m looking forward to the many tears of use I’ll get out of it!.

As other reviewers have said, this coat is SO heavy & thick! It’s just way too cumbersome. I live in Chicago, so I need a warm coat, but warmth & heaviness don’t have to go hand in hand. Another thing I hate about this coat is that the hood is enormous! Trust me, I am very picky about hoods & one thing that really bothers me is when a hood is too small.

I’ve returned coats for this reason alone, so I was looking for a hood that provided adequate coverage, but this on is just way too big. It actually comes down over my eyes when I have it up (& this is without the fur attached).

The sherpa lining inside the coat makes it too warm for most days (the same reason I had to return the Lodge Cascadian) – and I am always cold. I also think the sleeves are a tad too short & the cuffs are too loose around my wrists.

As others have said, the zipper is not smooth & does get caught on the fabric. And for some reason, the pull thing on the zipper is really big. That’s not a big deal, but it’s just another thing that bugs me.

The pockets are fleece lined, which is nice, and they are decent enough, but I still feel like they could be a bit bigger. I am 5’4, 125 lbs. , got the small & it fits well. It hits just above my knees.

I’m returning this one & will be on the hunt again for something warm but much lighter & with a normal size hood.

This really is a beautiful coat-I purchased at reduced cost (why I rated 5 stars for value). I purchased for a trip to the northern climes this winter. Wanted a longer coat than my ski jacket. I like that it wasn’t a shiny material (purchased Atlantic color) like other down coats.

I usually wear a Large, but sized up as I find EB jackets are often too narrow at the hips. The style of this coat is very slimming. I was just not a fan of the hood. Loved the look with the fur trim, but goodness it is huge no matter how I adjusted it (tab on back, pulls on side).

I guess if you were also wearing a knit pom hat it might work, but I think your noggin would melt with a hat and this insulated hood. The lining was nice, easily to pull on over sweaters or fleece. I decided to return the coat for a few reasons: 1) the hood 2) the XL reg wasn’t the best fit for me-sleeves too long, too big across back 3) I like a 2 way zipper, but found the zipper on this coat got stuck in inner flap pulling up or down 4) it’s very heavy for a down coat.

But hey. it is called the Sun Valley Arctic Down coat for a reason. I had also ordered it XL Petite thinking it might fit better and it was now half off. But, pretty sure I’ll be returning this one too for reasons noted once I receive it.

But, if you have a need for a really stylish, really warm coat, that the giant hood is manageable for you and you are better at zipping coat on and off, go for it! You’ll look great and be toasty warm! And, if you get it on sale, you’ll be even happier you ordered it.

To meet my travel needs, I bought the EB MicroTherm 2. 0 packable down jacket with hood that I can layer under my EB Windfoil Elite hooded waterproof coat (which is surprisingly warm, packable and definitely stylish).

I can layer this coat over the down jacket and fleece topper (if needed) and still have room to move.

I have an older version of this coat purchased in 2005 or 2006. I have been looking since 2010 for newer version because mine has tears from tree twigs, but you guys had the feathers leaking issue for a few years.

I was also looking for Land’s End to fix 3 issues with the coat. 1) Make the fabric more abrasion resistant. I have tears from catching the coat on tiny tree limbs, twigs really. 2) Enable the hood to be tightened closed around our hats while wearing hats.

It seems silly for a coat rated for very cold weather that you can’t tighten the hood closed. 3) The neck gaps a little too much and let’s the cold in. 4) I loved the zipped pockets on the exterior but they were so darn hard to find.

If you could make the zipper a little bigger. I liked the black on black. I would not want a contrasting color. I also like the internal pockets with zippers. 5) Two more inches in length with the storm flap and snaps and the above changes would make this coat perfect.

The sleeve circumference I had on this 2005-6 was and continues to be close to perfect for layering a turtleneck and fleece jacket. I bought the black coat in 2x. Make the above changes to your 2022-2023 version of this coat.

Also get rid of the fake fur ruff around the hood it cheapens the coat as does the lack of storm flap and snaps for the storm flap, bring the storm flap back. In 2021 my family issued me an ultimatum get a new winter coat or they would refuse to go anywhere in publicly with me I have an older version of this coat purchased in 2005 or 2006.

Too many companies were calling parka length coats (falling at mid thigh) or short coats (falling above the knee long coats. Also, so many parkas and coats had completely eliminated the storm flap with snaps to prevent cold winds blowing through the zipper.

Not acceptable. Also I found some companies using buttons instead of snaps. No way. Finally, I decided on your competitor’s long coat, the competitor that also starts with L. !You know what sold me on it instead of yours? The storm flap with snaps over the zipper.

I wore it today 12/20/2021 for the first time in 35 Fahrenheit weather and froze. The sleeves are too tight I can’t wear my fleece jacket underneath it. The body top is also too narrow to get my fleece jacket on underneath.

The arms are also not as well insulated with down as your 2005-2006 coat. I came home after walking to do my errand and put your coat on without my fleece jacket and walked the same path as before and I was not cold.

I want to buy the same down warmth as I have with your 2005-2006 down coat just fix the issues I mentioned so I can buy your coat next year in 2023-2023. You made a great product in 2005-2006 no make it a wonderful product again.

I will continue to wear your coat but not with my family. Hopefully next year in 2023-2023. Thank you.

So, I’ll start with the disclaimer that my review and the issues I point out may just be short/ petite people problems. If that’s not you. well, I hope you still find this review helpful in SOME way.

This is a great- quality coat, as to be expected from Land’s End, I think. The bottom has zippers on each side for more flexible leg movement, the pockets have fleece to keep your hands warm and the coat itself is very warm.

I needed something for walking the dog in winter, and walking to/ from my car at work from the parking deck. However, I call it my “sleeping bag coat”: not only because it’s long, but it’s boxy and has no shape, especially at the waist.

Knowing that their clothes fit kinda “roomy” from past experiences, I ordered the XSP for sizes 2-4 (I’m 5’0″, 120 lbs) and I wear a size small/2-4 in everything else and it fits well. Anyway, even given all of this, this coat could STILL stand to be taken in 1.

5- 2 inches, and that’s with wearing thick sweaters and/ or layers underneath. I don’t like this as I personally like a tailored look and fit to all of my apparel (everybody doesn’t care about that, I understand).

I bought another one from a different company (which I’m not sure I’m allowed to name here lol), but it was half the price, half the “bulk”(so, much more lightweight), and keeps me just as warm. But it’s black, and I got the raspberry- colored one here to go with browns, tans.

colors OUTSIDE of the black/ gray family (again, that’s just me lol). I haven’t decided if I feel like going through the hassle of returning this coat or whether I’ll keep it because it costs as much to alter it as the coat itself, but moral of this long-winded story (sorry, y’all) is: if all you care about is function and not that it’ll feel a size too big? This is a winner.

Warm, sturdy, long, quality. If you care about fashion AND function?? Well. if you’re on the petite side like me, I would say size down, but I’m already talking about the smallest size available of the coat.

Sooo. I guess I don’t know what to tell you in terms of getting a size that’s the right fit. LOL! Sorry.

I bought this in late November during the black Friday sale because I wanted a long, warm, cozy coat to get me through the last few months of my pregnancy, due end of Jan, that I could also wear afterthe birth leaving the hospital and have as a long time item.

in my closet. Though I am usually a petite M, I purchased a petite XL. The petite hits my low shin, I am 5’2. This is perfect for me though some reviewers said it was too long. It’s perfectly warm with thin layers underneath and boots becaue the boots hit at the bottom of the coat.

The zippers that open from the bottom and sides make it easy to maneuver in and out of cars for example because it could be a lot of shapeless bulk otherwise. Details like the extra cuff at the sleeves make it easy to wear with gloves either under that layer or over it, removable and adjustable hood is a nice touch and the hood is heavy enough to stay put on your head and over your ears even in a strong winter breeze.

The pockets are deep, functional for carrying a wallet and warm with their “fleece” lining. I only wish there was like a snap or button at the collar in addition to the zipper for those moments when you just want the coat a little closer to your body but that could also be that I sized up.

I jokingly call this my sleeping bag coat and it’s just as cozy. Not a style I thought I would ever love but I do and I am so happy qoth the purchase. It has kept me and baby belly warm in what is turning out to be a cold new jersey winter.

I saw this online and went to purchase it at my local north face store, but they didn’t even know it existed yet, so they special ordered it just for me. When I took it out of the box, I was so excited.

They weight is AMAZING! It’s soooo warm without being ultra heavy or bulky. the aesthetic qualities of the jacket are also on point. It looks stylish but casual, with attention to detail like the little leather notches at the hood.

However, a few practical features fell short for me. The absence of welt pockets at the hips is a big miss. Sure, there are flap pockets in front, but on a cold winter’s walk, it would be very awkward to hold one’s hands in front of them like that.

Instead, the welt pockets are at the breast, which IMO is awkward. What does a person with breasts stash in those pockets without looking misshapen? Is there actually room for items once it’s filled out by the breasts themselves?? Seems like it wasn’t really thought through very well.

I also wish there were some sort of internal stash pocket for items that need safekeeping. Last but not least, I’m petite at 5’4 and 110 lbs, and I was swimming in an xs. I love that it’s spacious enough for layers, but the extra fabric around my waist/back wasn’t flattering, even for a winter jacket.

Unfortunately, because of the impracticality of the pockets, I’m considering returning this item. It may work great for others, but didn’t quite hit the mark for me.

I bought this coat about a month ago and so far, I really love this coat! I have been able to test it out in a wide range of Midwest winter weather, including cold rain, sleet, snow, wind, and temps in the teens/single digits.

It has a matte/canvas-like fabric outside that repels water and keeps out the wind. I bought the brown color and am very happy with how it looks in person. The neckline zips high so the hood stays secure, and the hood is insulated for added warmth.

The inner cords that cinch the waist is figure flattering, and a feature I was looking for in a new waterproof winter coat. Some cons: The fit was a little tighter than I anticipated for a Medium size.

I am a size 6 and typically order outerwear in a Medium to ensure enough room for layers underneath. I can still fit a sweater and zip it up fine, but it is more fitted in the arms and hip area compared to the other long winter coat I own (which is wool and more boxy).

The zipper can occasionally be a pain to get zipped up, which might just be because of the double zipper and longer coat length. Also, there are no inside pockets and the outside pockets do not have zippers, but some have snaps.

Not a big deal for me, but I know it might be for some. Overall, I am very happy with the purchase of this coat.

I bought this last year in the Regular XL. I was an 18 at the time. It didn’t close unless I really pulled it. Especially with heavier tops like a sweater. I have lost weight this year and am a big 14 or typical 16.

The XL fits me now. I still wouldn’t call it big though. All my other size 18 coats are big on me this year. I am 5’8″ 195lbs. Not a big chest, but taller build around my back. More apple shaped than hippy.

I would size up if you are slightly between sizes or even if you just want the room for heavy tops. I do like the coat this year! It is very lightweight while still being warm. The hood is a little slippery and likes to fall in my face, but I only wear it for short periods (like walking through a parking lot or something) so it is fine.

I REALLY wish the fur were removable. I just don’t think the black fur is that pretty. I have a older coat with lovely fur trim that I would like to swap, but it seems like a big sewing project to attempt the change.

So I live with it. I did brush it with a natural bristle brush to try to make it more fluffy or something, and it helped a little. I do appreciate the double zipper, but rarely use this feature. If I know I will be sitting soon, I will just use the snaps rather than fussing with the zipper and then trying to unzip it from the bottom.

I love that there are both. It isn’t waterproof, but the nylon shell does repel snow and some light rain for a short while. Overall, I really like the lightweight nature of it and that it isn’t as “puffy” as some down coats, but still is warmer than wool.

I am happy that it fits me this year!.

Good points: – This jacket is exceptionally light weight. – It’s insulated with down and warm enough for driving around / running errands on most Minnesota winter days. – It is 100% nylon both inside and out – the material is soft and slides easily over a sweater or flannel shirt.

– Size 1X is cut very generously (especially in the waist and hips) and easily allows for bulky clothes underneath. – The chevron (V-shaped) quilting is more figure flattering than straight-line / vertical quilting.

Bad points: – The sleeves are rather short and my shirt sleeves poke out from the cuffs. – There is only loose elastic in the cuffs which doesn’t keep out cold air. Many Lands’ End winter jackets have an inner knit cuff – that would improve this item a lot.

– I got this in Deep Sea Navy with a bright blue lining in the hood and jacket interior. Although I like the bright blue better than the rather boring navy, sticking to one color – like the solid Black and solid Limelight versions – would make it easier to match this jacket with a scarf and hat.

I recommend this jacket but not at full price – if I didn’t get it at a really good sale price, I would not have bought it.

I bought this as a main winter coat, as it seemed described as something that could cover a variety of winter weather. I particularly was looking for a hooded coat so I wouldn’t have to carry along a hat.

There is no way to close the hood. No tie, no toggles. Even if you can get the hood to fit well**, wind will blow in around your neck. It could potentially blow the hood off in a strong wind. Yes, they say the hood is “adjustable”.

It is! That’s usually an Additional, extra feature. That’s a toggle that’s on TOP of the head,in the back, that adjusts the size of the hood for different head sizes or if you want to wear a hat. Great bonus feature.

But it ISN”T how you close a hood! There is no way to close the hood near your neck/under your chin. I’ve got their Squall parka from two years ago, it has toggles at each side of the front of the Neck that actually tie the hood closed, like a conventional tie would.

Basically, they made this as a decorative hood. It’s not going to be functional enough. I thought I”d get something attractive and functional with that hood. It was a boon that it adjusted to head size or if you wanted to wear a hat under it.

But it’s just attractive and not functional, and I don’t know what they were thinking to put on the adjustable tab on top and not a means to close it. I’m sure they don’t’ do that with men’s outerwear.

Everything else about the jacket is nice. The Large is true to size, with room for layers underneath. There’s no internal drawstring, which I didn’t expect. It could be cut a bit more shapely (with a slight waist) but instead it’s a bit boxy.

It is one of my favourite parka from EB. The fit is just right. It leans towards slim fit side. Most parka will give me a room in belly area and it makes me look chubby. I don’t have issues with this parka.

It’s light weight. Filling power is 550 so it might not be warm enough unless you wear layers or thermal under it. I don’t usually layer at all even in winter. I’ll just wear a top that i wear all year round and rely on jacket for warmth and EB outwear does a really good job at it.

For winter, I have sun valley down. I bought this one for fall or towards the end of winter into spring. I like the eggplant color. It has a blackish shiny finish and appears darker than the photo. And it’s cute.

Quality and design is very cute. It has elastic on hood and cuffs which will prevent from cold air getting inside. There’s 2 sections of pockets inside – one slip one and one side one with zip on the left chest area.

2 more zipped sides pockets although i prefer snaps for the sides. It’s a lovely jacket. Go ahead and buy.

I took a risk and bought this. I was concerned that the 550 fill would not be warm enough. I was wrong! This coat is light! Its like wearing a warm cloud. I wore this in 24° wearing with a light layer underneath and I was cozy and comfortable.

And because it hits me a few inches above my knees, it keeps more of me warm. Nice! The double directional zipper makes it comfortable to walk and bend in when out with dogs. There is elastic in the wrists to keep out drafts, nicely placed hand warmer pockets and a zipped breast pocket for my credit card holder.

Nice hood. This is so light and cozy, its become my go-to coat, and I bought two more for friends. Things to know: The material on this coat is thinner than other down coats I’ve had, making me wonder how puncture-resistant it is.

Also because of the light fabric, I don’t put anything heavy in the pockets. Credit card holder, yes. Cell phone or keys, no. Also, it would be nice if this coat had a drawstring to make the waist more fitted.

Overall, I love this coat. With care, I expect to enjoy it for years.

I have been looking for a mid length parka for a while now, and this is perfect in every way. It’s warm but not bulky. I can wear it to the gym or out to dinner. The eggplant has a charcoal tint making it even more attractive than the photos.

I’m short, so this hits me at a few inches above my knee which is exactly what I wanted. It’s enough of an A-line shape to accommodate movement and curves. Fits true to size, and I can get a sweatshirt underneath! Great buy!.

I love this coat!!! Color is dressy but the warmth of materials is totally no-nonsense, block-the-cold. Design is amazing — they truly thought of everything with this coat. Adjustable closures everywhere they should be for comprehensive coverage.

I got this coat due to the high quality of the brand and the claim of superior warmth. While this coat is great on some levels, it does not succeed at offering extreme warmth. First the pros: The Centrale has a clean, minimalist design and is very figure flattering.

The combo of down plus coreloft keeps it very lightweight which is fine if you’re looking for that. Now the cons: First, this coat is not very warm. While they use down plus coreloft to keep this parka from being drafty, it succeeds at being lightweight but fails at warmth.

Its waterproof material makes it ideal for temperatures that are wet and cool (40-50 degrees). The hood kind of flops around until you adjust the toggles well enough to get it up around your face as well.

The zipper doesn’t go all the way down to the bottom of the coat but stops about 6 inches from it and the snaps on the outside also don’t go down all the way, so cold air kind of blows up the coat. While this coat is flattering to look at, it doesn’t perform and it certainly doesn’t seem to be worth the price if you’re looking for something to stay warm in temperatures less than 35 degrees.

For me, the Patagonia Frozen Range parka is a better bet for staying warm for the cost.

I recently purchased Arcteryx Women’s Patera Parka and love the jacket overall. It’s extremely warm and keeps me cozy in the negative temperatures of NYC. It’s slick, stylish, and lightweight. I also love the soft lining inside the pockets, keeps your hands warm.

When fully zipped, keeps your neck and lower face well covered, without being very tight or suffocating. That said, a few things that I feel could be better: 1. The hood does not come up to my forehead.

So I need to wear a warm cap underneath, especially during heavy winds, rain, or snow. 2. I understand the double zipper is a useful feature, which gives you the flexibility to unzip from both ends. But in my jacket, the bottom zipper never locks and often unzips on its own.

Also, the button at the bottom is of no use as it almost always opens up. 3. I wish the material was wrinkle resistant. The jacket crumbles on the bottom half which makes it look less formal. I still love the jacket despite the above flaws and would highly recommend it.

This is a great jacket so far, with just a couple of minor quirks that keep the 5th star from being added. Context: had it for about a month and have been wearing it near every day, in temps from 0F up to 40F.

Pros: It is warm, but not so warm that entering a heated space (like getting on a train, walking in to a coffee shop) won’t cause you to immediately break down sweating. Arc’teryx makes a warmer version, but I think this is the right level of warmth for most of the midwestern winter.

The shell fabric is soft. Not at all like Arc’teryx Gore-Text shells (think crinkly, noisy). The shells are good at what they do but this softer fabric is better for what this jacket is for – walking around town in the winter.

The hood cinches down well, and is smaller than the normal Arc’teryx helmet-compatible hoods – good for casual use. Looks good, works as an overcoat over a business suit if needed. Sizing/fit – there is room for a mid-weight layer but still looks slim (some other down parkas make it look like you are the Michelin man).

I’m 6′ 2″, 200lb and bought the large. As with all Arc’teryx, love the sleeve length and no excess of materials where you don’t need them (e. g. around the waist/lower back). The zipper unzips from the bottom as well as the traditional top-down zipper, which makes it easier to e.

g. sit in the car. I like this a lot, but I think there is room for improvement here – see Cons. Neutral: The pockets don’t have insulation between your hands and the outside. This is good because it prevents cold air from running in through the pockets and lowering your core temp.

The bad is that at temps below 15F, your hands won’t stay warm in the pockets and you’ll want gloves, since it is just a layer of wind stopper between your hands and the outdoors (no down or thinsulate etc.

). I prefer emphasizing the insulation next-to-body and would rather just wear gloves when very cold, but some might be disappointed if warm, insulated pockets were expected. The color is not black (as it says on the website) but really comes across as a more textured dark gray.

I like this (and read about it in other reviews before buying) but some might be disappointed if expecting “true” black. Cons: The zipper doesn’t always work on the first try. Specifically, it can be difficult to get the bottom zipper to set properly into the track.

As a result of fumbling with it, getting it stuck, etc. I can’t shake the feeling that this is the flimsiest part of the jacket. It feels like it won’t hold and if anything on the jacket fails I think it will be the zipper first.

The hood drawstring on the back of the hood is very short, feels thin, and doesn’t seem to accomplish anything. The drawstrings on the front near the face work well so this isn’t a problem but I’m not sure what the intended functionality of the back drawstring is.

Overall I like this coat, would probably buy it again, but it isn’t quite perfect.

This is a nearly-ultralight, high-quality down hoody with some great features and a fit which may or may not fit you. Like a lot of other BD apparel, this jacket is very long both in the torso and in the arms.

That’s great if you’re tall and skinny like me, but I could see my men’s small not working well for someone significantly shorter than 5’10. So that’s the one potential issue with the jacket. The length work well for me, but I can tell it won’t work for some others.

The build quality on the Approach is fantastic. Well-stitched seams and cleverly placed baffles have so far maintained their fill level, with very few down plumes lost. The material is also great, especially for layering, because it’s very slippery allowing for easy layering either above or below other layers.

The packability is very good, with a well-designed packing pocket which actually ends up pretty much fully stuffed, something that’s somewhat rare in a jacket with a packing pocket. This is a lightweight jacket, not a midweight down layer, so make sure you know what you’re getting.

I think of this hoody as a slightly warmer, slightly heavier and slightly bulkier (and longer) version of the MHW Ghost Whisperer. If you’re interested in a hoody that’s well-made, with premium down fill and consistent performance, this is an absolutely great choice.

This jacket works exactly as it should. Plenty warm enough on its own for most cold days around freezing temps even when not very active. Where it really shines is when it is layered on top of a base layer or beneath a hard/waterproof shell.

I am rather short and athletically stocky (5’6 180lbs) with a 44 inch chest so sizing is always an issue for me but the medium I ordered fits fine on its own as well as with layers underneath. I wear body armor for work and It can easily stretch over it but still isn’t too baggy when worn alone.

Being so light it also fits comfortably with another layer on top of it. Sleeves are indeed a bit long but they do fit above the wrist well and easily compacts so that it doesn’t extend past your hands.

A few feathers snuck out of it at first but not anymore and I’ve never known a down jacket that hasn’t done that. Photo is with body armor and layer underneath.

Bought this to wear as a mid-layer for climbing Mt Rainier. I’m 5’8” 165lbs (unless it’s enchilada Wednesday) and I got a size medium. With my Smartwool base layer, and a light fleece, I could wear this jacket for most Rainier activities, and stay comfy warm without having to breakout the parka.

It was snug, but not at all uncomfortable or binding. After I returned home from a week on the Mountain, the jacket smelled like a boys locker room after football practice (in Texas, in August). I threw it in the washer, then dryer per instructions.

The down pretty much redistributed throughout the jacket and hasn’t lost any insulation. Based on my research versus the Patagonia Nano Puff jacket, I thought this was a great jacket at a great price.

I consistently bought my kids Patagonia coats prior to this purchase. Considering my kids’ speedy growth spurts, I couldn’t justify the costs of those coats. The sales here caught my eye and decided to trust the reviews.

I did upgrade to next day after my order had not been shipped for an entire week with standard because the company (along with many others) are having trouble with staff and deliveries. I figured I got these coats at such a good price.

I bought one for each one of my sons (13 y/o that is in 3rd percentile weight, super skinny and 25% height and my 9 y/o who is 98% in both height and weight, husky). I decided on Large for both of them (14-16) since I was limited in available sizes and colors (one orange and other in navy blue).

I thought they would be too big but was surprised that it was right for both of them. If you were to follow the size chart, this would be a tight fit. I didn’t want them to be tight in their coats (my youngest says he has enough room to play gagaball.

I think it is because I picked the bigger size and the material of the coat allows for movement). It has down feathers for insulation but the coat doesn’t look poofy at all, and the coat’s outer material looks to be water repelling.

I even tried it on to see how warm it is (it is very warm!), and I can attest that at 5′ 3″ tall and at 140lbs I could put their coats on! The faux fur on the hood is removable (my older one prefers it off and my younger loves the look of the fur).

Even my daughter who has a quality Northface winter coat wanted their coats and tried taking it for herself. I can’t attest to how long they will last and if they will easily launder, but so far we are very happy with these two coats.

If you can afford it, use next day shipping during the holidays.

I bought the Stone version, which is a lovely pale, barely there grey/white/ash color. I love the color and the fur trim is great IMO. My loves about the coat: warmth! Lots of pockets; waist can be cinched; collar stands upright easily even when unzipped, which I like and it looks great with hair up; long length; storm placket gives closure options.

Dislikes: when I cinch the waist, the elastic cord sticks out horizontal and can be seen on the exterior (I’ve tried tucking and it won’t stay in the interior pocket); unless I have it zipped, it looks kind of enormous and the hood pulls it back so the flare starts from my chest; knit wrist cuffs! Hate these with a passion because they are tight enough on me that it makes wearing my smart watch VERY uncomfortable.

Another review mentioned this and she cut out the cuffs; the sleeve length on the exterior is almost bracelet length on me, which is weird. I will be ordering a tall size to see if that works better for me.

Overall, it’s a great down coat for very cold weather.

I am a long-time purchaser of this jacket from lands end. I have purchased more than 5 of these. They have been passed down through multiple children. Last year the quality notably decreased and this year I would’ve returned it if I hadn’t gotten it at 60% off.

I will never buy another jacket from Lands’ End again. Your customers notice when you cut corners. For the quality of this jacket purchasing it at 60% off was probably about right for what it would be worth at full price.

In previous years I was able to trust the quality of Land’s End materials enough that I could let the children sled along Lake Superior with temperatures at or around zero before windchill and do winter camping.

This year’s model is of such poor quality that my daughter is wearing her sister six year old version of the same one. Which after six years of wear is a better quality than the new one I got this year.

If your kids just going to be on the playground for a half an hour it might be OK if you don’t really have winter.

I got this coat last winter because I wanted something long enough to cover my knees. This coat costs a few hundred more than Marmot’s other coats, I assumed because it is longer, but I was willing to pay for full body protection.

I am 5’8 and really want to be well covered up between my knee high boots and my coat during midwest winters. But the zipper stops short a good six inches above the bottom of the coat! It’s as if the coat is only 38 inches long, which is well above my knees.

This is not a flaw in my zipper; Marmot designed this coat to not have the zip go all the way down. Why are we paying hundreds of dollars more for extra length if functionally the coat only acts as if it is an above-the-knee coat? The cold immediately creeps right in there, especially bad when I’m sitting in my cold car in the mornings.

Why not have the zip be a two way and go all the way down so we have the option to actually be covered up? I can guess it’s to ease walking. but if I bought a long coat, it’s because I actually want a long coat.

I’m extremely angry about this because I thought finally, I’ll have a long winter coat that is technically sound (other sellers offer a long down coat, but warmth is limited). I’ve kept the coat because my family saved up to get it for me, but I’m going to have to get the zipper replaced which is going to add to the price of an already costly coat.

PLEASE redesign this coat so it actually functions like a long coat. What is the point?? In summary: get a shorter coat and save a few hundred dollars.

In searching for a winter coat it came down to either the Prospect or the Montreaux I liked that the Prospect was waterproof, the hood was easily adjustable and the zippers were heavy like you would expect on an outdoor jacket, the torso was not tight at all, and was about 4 inches longer than the Montreaux.

Negatives were it had only 3 pockets (no inside drop), and no ruff. The Prospect was warmer (800 fill compared to 700 for Montreaux) and overall fit better, plus I liked its longer length. I like the side zippers down by the hem because they make it easier to sit down without exposing yourself by unzipping the center zip.

I do wish that center zip did go all the way to the hem, though because then it could provide more coverage when sitting. In contrast the Montreaux was a very pretty Berry Wine color; had 4 pockets (2 handwarmer, 1 interior zip, 1 interior drop).

I liked the ruff on the hood but could not see a way to adjust it so it would not fall so far forward over my face. The minuses were that it was only water-resistant and that the torso was very snug; also the zippers were very fine, like what you’d find on a skirt, and not as heavy as I’d expect for a jacket of its type.

This coat is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted something long enough to cover my knees and also something that was stuffed with a lot of down. Fill power just describes the quality of down used, but I wanted a jacket with the highest quantity of down.

I called Patagonia, the north face, and marmot to ask them the number of grams of down contained in the prospect coat and the comparable coats from the other companies. The North Face didn’t have that information available, so they were easily eliminated.

Patagonia had amazing customer service of course, but their knee length parka, the Jackson Glacier parka, only had 170 grams of down for a medium jacket. Marmot’s prospect coat had 245. 8 grams of down in their medium jacket, so it wasn’t really a contest between the two.

I purchased the prospect in an xs and it feels true to size. I’ve been really impressed with the warmth so far. I’m 5’3” and the length hits just below my knees.

Been using this jacket for a little over two months now in Yellowstone country as an oversnow vehicle guide, XC Skiing, and Ski Touring. I wear this jacket any time I’m out of the vehicle and it has kept me warm, even in single digit temps with 70mph wind and driving snow.

As with any winter clothing, layers are key. I do layer underneath it with a grid fleece and softshell vest in those conditions. When I ski tour it is my go-to when taking breaks, keeping me toasty warm when we stop at the summit.

It is very light weight. I do wish it had a hem cinch, but it isn’t something Im usually wishing for in the field. The hood cinch is great though, drawing the hood tight around the head along the line a hat usually sits.

Makes it very comfortable even when drawn tight against wind.

Me and the family walked into the store and as soon as we walked in, a customer passed me with one in orange and INSTANTLY fell in love. I said out loud “I got to get me one of these!!!” Next thing you know, my daughter surprises me with it as soon as we leave the store.

To me, for something this small, it’s the warmest outside of a n actual parka. It was 9 degrees out and I kid you not, all I wear is a tshirt with a long sleeve tshirt under this jacket. If I wear anything thicker than that I’ll overheat.

I’ve had my share of TNF jackets since the early 90’s and it doesn’t surprise me that THIS type of jacket keeps you incredibly warm because they’ve BEEN doing this since I bought my first one close to 30 years ago.

I’ve had other jackets over the years, BUT a TNF jacket is ALWAYS in the closet because that’s my NUMBER ONE BRAND!!! You DEFINITELY cannot go wrong with this one. It’s SOLID!!!.

Why did I not buy this jacket sooner? First off, the color: TEAL! I love black, but it’s so nice to have some color in my life, and blues/teals are my number one non-black choice. And it’s a good teal, a cool-based teal, not the warm with the yellow undertones that make my skin look sallow.

So three cheers for TEAL! Secondly, the fit: Perfect. I am no longer a size 6 and have the hips to prove it. Women’s clothing frequently forget that many of us have hips. 5’6″, size 10, curvy, and the large zips perfectly over my curves, both top and bottom, with room to spare.

The arms are not tight, even with a sweater on, and the jacket fits like it was made for me! Then there’s the other details, like the perfect-sized hood that’s not too small, not too large, but just right.

I have a jacket with a hood that is so huge, it covers my eyes no matter what I do. And I have a big head and lots of hair and it’s still huge! So for safety as well as looks, I am glad to have a hood that protects me but lets me see.

I also like that there is no external fur lining on the hood. While I love the look, when it rains or snows, the fur gets wet, cold, and soggy, and water drips into my eyes and on my face. Fur-trimmed hoods are for clear weather only.

Another bonus is the jacket did not arrive smelling like toxic chemicals!!! So many companies these days coat their garments with toxic finish chemicals, and it is not safe to wear the garments until they are washed once or even more, depending on how much was used.

This jacket did not smell and I felt safe trying it on. I might have even worn it without washing, but I always wash just to be safe. Which leads me to another positive: The jacket launders magnificently.

Warm/cold water wash on gentle, low dry, and it’s ready to wear! I love the pockets (yay for the inside one), and the fuzzy lining, which was thoughtfully not extended to the arms. The style is flattering, the lines are good, and thank you for the snap placket covering the front zipper, to keep out those chilly winds.

I don’t mind the “noise” others have commented on; this is what a ski/waterproof/windproof jacket sounds like. Overall, I give this jacket ten stars. I am a fan!!!.

I bought this same jacket in winter white in 2013, and have used it thoroughly. It wasn’t worn out, but it just never looked clean any longer. So I replaced it with the mallard teal color this time to keep some of the obvious dirt not so obvious.

It’s stiffer (right now) than my well-worn one, but it does seem maybe slightly larger than the first. Still, it’s large enough for sweater or sweatshirt underneath, but not too large just by itself.

I love the lack of velcro to snag anything and everything. Also, love the inside pocket for phone, etc. This hood gives more room between the body of the coat and the top of the hood than my previous jacket, so I don’t feel like I have to shrink my neck a bit to wear it comfortably.

I live where we don’t have miserable winters – only a few miserable days (or weeks) here and there, so it’s perfect for my needs. I have always loved how I can wear it when it’s only slightly cool without getting overheated, as well as when it’s cold and with enough layers I can stay plenty warm.

Please keep this as a regular selection, LLBean. I’ll be happy to come back next time for a replacement again! (And I already have the longer one of this style, too. ).

I’ve been living in Minneapolis for 6 years now commuting by bus to work and school. Winter can be torture and there have been several occasions when I thought I might die waiting for the bus–especially late at night in subzero temps.

I lived! But I’m done with torturing myself and decided to buy a coat that ACTUALLY WORKS. Being a student I thought I could find something ugly and in my budget and does the trick, so I bought and tested three different fair-priced coats all with -45 temp ratings.

They sucked. I tried them out at 20 degrees and I might as well keep the fashion coat I had been freezing my butt off in for the past 6 years. I returned them and started looking at more costly coats (you know, the ones from Canada).

I saw this 66N Jokla online and decided that it would be better than those brands, but it was out of my price range. Then BAM moose jaw had it –so I saved almost half. It still hurt my wallet to buy it, but I DO NOT REGRET IT.

I can handle 20 easy, 10 is totally fine with me, 0 and below gives me a chilly face but it won’t stop me– I’m still warm at my core. I can warn skirts with high socks at 25 degrees F because it’s long enough to cover most of my legs.

I could probably get away with skirts at 20 F. This thing is worth the money if you have to spend more than 15 mins outside in a polar vortex.

I bought this at the end of the 2016 cold season so I only had very limited exposure. This season (2016/2017) I’ve had the opportunity to use it substantially. The fox fur is magic as it literally seals in the heat within your head.

the pockets are more than you need. My only complaint is that I was looking for something to put over a shirt with no layering and then go outside with 15F + 20mph winds. My shoulders kept getting chilled and after investigation, i noticed that there is a seam separating from shoulder down content to rear shoulder content.

This means that there is no insulation at the top shoulder line. So I have to add some minor layering so my ‘top shoulder’ is not cold. If I had known this before, i would have kept shopping for an ultimate go out in any weather over my shirt outerwear.

For active users it’s 5 star. if you are waiting for a train to arrive and you’re on a platform, it’s sideways snow, and you have no layer, you will keep moving your arms to stay warm (Shoulders are cold) it’s a 4 star.

I know some people will say, ‘you always have to layer’. I know that. I would like to search for outerwear that contains the feathers of 10 fat geese so I don’t have to layer and i look like a balloon, so be it – would be a very warm, happy balloon.

I regularly travel to Iceland (bimonthly), home of this parka. The winter weather there outside of the city will adequately test any piece of gear–while wearing this parka you’ll forget what season it is.

There is no such thing as bad weather, just bad clothing. Pros: –gorgeous thick fox fur trim and deep hood –pockets and lots of them, inside and out –reflectors! Be seen at night! –length of coat and two way zipper –space to layer underneath –it may be nerdy but this is high Icelandic fashion Cons: –it’s a parka so it is bulky –the waist cinching straps loosen often –the front Velcro closures stick to everything and have ruined a few sweaters/scarves/pants of mine –do you REALLY need one? They’re expensive! This coat gets the most use in subzero (C) temperatures otherwise I default to something less bulky.

I love this jacket! I love the colour and the length on me is great (just under my knees and I’m 5’5). I like the zippers on the side and that the fur is detachable. The hood is a good size too, doesn’t droop over my eyes but covers my full head.

It’s comfortable and super warm, but I’ve only worn it in under -20 so far. There are a couple fly away strands I needed to cut off and the zipper can get caught sometimes on the way up since it’s such a long jacket.

I get what the other reviews are saying about a tightness in the shoulder, but the mobility is still good and it’s not tight down the arms. And it’s a bit heavier than my old (Aritzia for reference) winter jacket but nothing crazy.

Otherwise for fit, the size guide recommended a large, but I definitely could have sized down – it’s a bit bulky in the shoulders and waist area. No refunds or exchanges on sale items, so unfortunately can’t.

I bought this jacket in purple a couple of months ago. I’m always cold but this jacket keeps me super toasty and dry in the snow or rain. I get lots of compliments on it, and I like that I can remove the fur from the hood.

I’m happy I got the long jacket to keep my legs warm too, and I’m finding my feet also don’t get as cold when I wear this jacket. I would say the only inconvenience is that it’s quite puffy so I can’t wear it in the car.

I’m 5’4 and 126lbs, and the XS fits perfectly, with no need to wear a thick layer underneath because it’s so warm. This was my first noize product (my boyfriend also bought a jacket too and loved it) and I am not disappointed.

I actually just bought a second jacket so I’m hoping for the same product quality. I also love that it’s made from recycled plastic and not animal products so I feel great about my choice to purchase.

I moved from the UK to Canada almost three years ago, and have been scraping by during winter by not going outside much, layering, and using what I realize now is a thin piece of fabric shaped like a coat.

With it being the pandemic, going outside is now pretty much the only option to leaving the house this year, so I knew the time had come. A friend recommended Noize, knowing my eco-friendly vegan-at-heart self would prefer to never know warmth again over buying a product with real fur/down/made out of environmentally damaging synthetics.

And I’ve been really, really impressed so far. The first time I wore it out, I only knew it was cold thanks to the small amount of my face that was exposed and slowly becoming numb. It’s like wearing a duvet, but socially acceptable to keep on in the grocery store.

I never in my wildest dreams thought I could go out on a -10 windy day with only a short-sleeve t-shirt under my coat, but Noize rose to the challenge! While I haven’t braved a snowstorm to test it out to its maximum capacity, I did end up with quite a few flecks of a soft drink down the middle of my coat (long story) which froze into icy droplets.

I’m pleased to report that my torso on the inside had absolutely no idea anything was amiss – so definitely waterproof too! I got the Addie in forest green, and it can zip up literally from the knees to the chin.

If that seems alarming at all, there is also dual zip for opening the bottom more if you want to take bigger strides! The pockets are deep and the hood is extremely soft. If it wasn’t for my satisfied conscience (and the label), I’d have no idea the insides are made from recycled plastic.

I did a ton of research before landing on the Fjallraven Nuuk parka, and I could not be happier with my choice. I researched Patagonia, Columbia, Canada Goose, Nobis, Arcteryx – you name it. I came closest to Nobis – THIS close – but the $1100 price tag just felt ridiculous especially when I started looking at all the features on this Fjallraven parka that NONE of the Nobis parkas had.

Then I dug into what felt like a zillion reviews, emailed Fjallraven with questions, and chatted online with a Backcountry rep and bought this jacket. IT IS AMAZING. Not sure why some reviews complain about sizing because I got a Medium, which is my usual size for everything, and it fits like it was made for me.

Enough room to wear a sweater underneath but also snug enough to do the job it’s supposed to do: keep me warm and dry and comfortable. The hood adjusts perfectly. I can adjust the sleeve opening to tighten when I’m not wearing gloves and loosen when I am so the gloves slide perfectly under the sleeve hem to seal in warmth.

There are pockets galore on this jacket which I love because I hate putting stuff in my pants pockets. I carry my phone, beanie, keys, masks (now a staple in COVID times), air pods, even a small battery pack at times, and that still does’t use all of the pockets.

Yes, it’s a heavy jacket, but it’s meant to be heavy and warm. That is why I wanted it. Seattle winters are windy and wet and can get pretty cold. I’ve worn this jacket over just a sleep t-shirt to walk the dogs at 5am when it’s 12 degrees outside and let me tell you – It was like I never left my warm, cozy bed.

I went back and forth on color and opted for black because it’s pretty basic and you can wear it with everything, but honestly, I’m seriously considering buying a second one in another color (brown or green) just to have the variety.

Warm, soft, versatile, and fits like an absolute dream. And it outperforms my far more expensive Arcteryx jacket in every way. OH – one final thing – yeah, the zipper is on the opposite side because it’s a European jacket.

It takes all of 10 seconds to adjust to this. If you skip this jacket over such a tiny detail, you are missing out big time.

I just received the code today so cannot speak to its warmth or durability. But I think it’s important to say that I almost bought a size down because of reviews and even the manufacturers instructions.

I am very glad I got out the tape measure and took my measurements and then ordered the size that I originally planned to order which is my normal size of medium though I was at the lower end of it. ( 5’2”; 135lbs).

I would not call this jacket as being oversized and I definitely would not recommend sizing down. I think people feel it is big because the articulated arms and roomy shoulders make the jacket so easy to move in that people may feel it is too big.

I’m psyched that getting a backpack on and off will be easy without being constricted. And yes, the sleeves are longer than most coats, but the Velcro straps can make it stay On the wrist quite easily, and I think the long sleeves will be great to help keep my hands warm if I loosen the straps.

The biggest issue for me is that the hips on this I feel are a bit snug. That said I have a pretty muscular rear from doing lots of squats so most coats do fit me snug over the hips. I definitely could not have worn a small size.

I needed a coat to wear b. c. I chaperone my son’s ski club every week. I have braved sub zero temps on the mountain, eating dinner outside to avoid crowded lodge, chairlifts that stop half way in windchill beyond belief, and while every other part of me has been freezing the coat has kept my upper body completely protected.

I wish I could wear a full body suit of this coat. I got the Small bc reviews mentioned that it ran big. I would say it is roomy despite heavy sweater underneath, so reviews seem to be right on that point.

I am 5´8″, 135# slim upper body, wear a size 27 in most pants and S in tops. I loosen the zipper from the bottom up a bit so I can stuff the pockets without the coat constricting over my hips/thighs.

It has pockets that you can zip closed as well as easy access snap ones for gloves and tissues etc. There is a string that allows you to tighten the waist somewhat that I have not yet experimented with but I assume it will give a bit more shape for the more fashion forward, not that this is not a stylish coat – I think it looks awesome.

Overall I am very happy with this coat and foresee wearing it for years to come.

It’s comfortable and feels rather easy to move in- not bulky or restrictive. The inner lining is smooth and allows you to partially close your coat, which is a great feature for less frigid weather. The cinching at the waist coupled with the external belt on the back is a stylish touch.

The quality of the material seems great, though this must be further tested with time (I’ve had it for a week). The pockets are lined with velvety-material and are comfortable, though I would prefer that they were a bit deeper.

The degree of warmth/insulation the coat provides thus far is acceptable, though it should be noted that the outer zipper must be closed to maintain proper insulation. It gets down to -45 degrees F, so I’ll have to test the coat out further once temperatures drop more precipitously (will provide an update in a couple months for a more robust and thorough review of weather-related performance).

Hands down, 10/10 when it comes to style. It’s sleek, grand, and eye-catching in an elegant way. I look forward to enjoying and testing it further.

I want to change my review to a lower score. Originally I gave the coat three stars because the zipper was coming off. That was only a couple weeks ago. Since then my zipper has proceeded to come off even more to the point that it flaps when I walk and zipping it is near impossible.

This probably won’t happen until you use the coat in winter, when you need the coat. I was under the impression this was a high quality coat. They want to take the coat for 3-4 weeks in the middle of winter to fix it, which defeats the purpose of having a warm coat in winter.

This is only my second full winter with the coat. Every time I bend over the zipper comes off more because it is already coming off. I think by the time I can send it in(after the coldest part of winter), the zipper will be hanging off halfway up the jacket.

Maybe it will look so ridiculous, or I won’t be able to zip it at all, and I’ll stop wearing it, but it was purchased to get me through the coldest part of winter. I’ll have nothing. Very disappointed with this.

This is the only Mackage I ever owned, and the winter coat I ever owned to have a zipper come off.

What I like: The bib is awesome on this coat. Great to have the bib zipped up and leave the front open on not as cold days. There’s also a button to close the front over the bib without fully zipping it (this is a nice touch).

The pockets are fleece lined and zip up. There’s an interior pocket, which is handy to stash my mask when not in use. This coat has kept me warm on -10 Toronto days so far. What I don’t like: The big hood is nice but not entirely practical.

It does have a button to make it tighter so that it can stay on your head better. I am petite and the sleeves are really long so they bunch a bit. The coat is puffier than it looks in the pics making it bulkier than I like, but I guess you need that for the warmth.

I would have preferred a fabric material (like Nobis) over the more plastic feel of Mackage. I tried a XS and S and the XS was too tight where I could wear a S with a mid-thick sweater.

I would have given this coat 5 stars except for the previously mentioned problem that the material attracts any dust particle around and because of the size, shape and position of the outside pockets.

The two pockets sit on top of each other. The outer one has a flap which limits the opening to only 4 3/4 ” which makes it difficult to stow larger objects. The inner pocket has a 6″ opening. Since the opening to both pockets is on an angle I find that I can stow only a cell phone, keys, handkerchief and maybe a small cap.

Also the position of the pockets makes it awkward to walk with hands in a pocket. That said, I am keeping this coat because the hood is adjustable, a feature that is almost impossible to find in women’s winter coats or jackets.

I bought a size small which allows me to wear a warm jacket underneath and that keeps me comfortably warm.

The green is a dark pine. Length of arms are not too long for my petite frame. Sized up to S from XS to bundle up underneath. Double pockets are great. The hood is detachable (zipper connection) and fits snug – therefore making it challenging to wear a pom beanie underneath.

Would like the ability to cinch in the waist, but I do not mind having room underneath. Since I am short, the length is below my knees, love the dual zipper to provide extra mobility if needed.

I am so happy that REI sells this parka because Patagonia itself does not sell this Women’s version in their stores or on the web site. I love that it’s a bit more dressed up and less athletic looking than the other Patagonia offerings.

It seems very warm, but is not heavy. The medium seemed roomy and the arms were not tight on me. Surprising because I sometimes wear large in coats. I particularly appreciate the snap closure and the hood for chilly Chicago days.

The large front pockets come in handy, too.

I tested this coat out in 20 degree weather- and it did not disappoint. Very warm and also somehow lightweight. I wish the belt was thicker but I can always swap out for a different one from my closet.

Overall I’m very happy to have this for NYC cold and windy winter days. The length is great for keeping warm.

I live in the NYC area and even though our winters don’t usually get too terribly cold or snowy, this is the perfect parka for our area. Warm enough, especially when it’s windy. The deep pockets are also wonderful.

Overall, I am very pleased with the parka.

I am 5’2 130 pounds & 32D chest. I fit in the size small. It’s comfortable with room for a sweater underneath. The snaps at the side make it easy to move in, so that I can get in and out of my car without my legs feeling trapped.

Great coat with great style & features for the money.
