20 Best Winter Clothes For Men (2023 Updated)

I just got this coat in the mail and LOVE it. I just wanted to say: a lot of reviews say this runs small (like 2 sizes too small). I don’t get it. I ordered a medium and could’ve taken a small. (I was on the measurement at the cusp between medium and small and saw reviews so went up).

The sleeves are a smidge long and it is a little roomy – so I know I could’ve taken the small. This is not a comment about the retailers: I had read other comments and erred on the size of TOO big (I was actually afraid it wouldn’t fit after reading comments that it runs 2 sizes too small).

Untrue. I mean. if you are basing 34 waist on pants that don’t fit properly, I guess maybe. Anyways. Just wanted to throw out there that this coat IS NOT “small” for its size. I’d read those comments that it runs 2 sizes too small for its size: untrue.

If you like your coat to fit (not extra long sleeves or room for air to get in) – go ahead and rely safely on the MEASURES. the comments that it is small for its size are probably being left by people who wear clothes that don’t fit them properly.

AND IT’S SUPER SOFT. I just think I could’ve taken a size smaller but rounded up b/c I’d read some comments that it runs “two sizes too small” — UNTRUE. It is true to its measures.

This is a versatile jacket that is a must have for Northern California and also great to use as a insert in colder climate. It’s light weight and waterproof, which is much needed throughout the year.

Given that it’s fairly thin, we didn’t think it was going to help us in a skiing trip. As it turned out, it was such a lifesaver. My husband wore it inside of parka that was kind of loose. The AlpineSwiss jacket did a great job of keeping all the cold air out in 0 degree temperature.

The cleaning is easy. We just throw it in regular cycle in the washer. The color doesn’t come off at all. Highly recommend.

Bought this for my husband and I love the look. I debated between ordering the L or XL and I’m glad I ordered the L. It fits true to size and the color is nice. It’s bulky and heavier than I thought, I assumed a puffer coat would be much lighter weight but realized I should have noted “coat”, not jacket.

It will be good for winter, I just wish it were lighter weight.

I recently bought this Reebok coat and like it a lot. Good fit, deep side pockets and the chest zipper pocket is not the typical little one I expected. It’s plenty big enough for my phone. I think I got a pretty nice, warm coat at a really good price.

I bought these two weeks ago in size large for men I return it cause they runs small got and extra large and hope the zipper doesn’t damage again that was the problem. Zipper cheaply made. He like the style so I bought and xl.

I purchased this jacket as a replacement to my 6-7 year old legendary Patagonia Nano Puff jacket which I owned in a women’s S. For sizing reference, I am 5’6”, with an athletic build and around 135 lb.

This jacket is a perfect replacement! The style, fit and warmth are very comparable – probably as close as I could get to my old jacket without it being the same exact thing. Of note, I opted not to re-purchase the Nano Puff due to some minor concerns with the quality (stitching seemed to come loose quite easily) as well as the fit – I didn’t like how the jacket felt under my armpits – it was too close, and the jacket itself was a bit too fitted all around so not as easy to get base layers under without feeling like a burrito.

The fit of the Expedition definitely solves these issues that I had with my Nano Puff. In a women’s S, it does not feel tight at all around my armpits, the sleeves are long enough but not too long as is the body of the jacket.

It doesn’t hang off of me like a paper bag, but also isn’t so tight that it appears fitted. There is plenty of room for a base layer underneath without feeling crowded (it goes on easily with both a Better Sweater vest AND Better Sweater long sleeve underneath at the same time!).

I had ordered the M at first – due to reviews I read here, as well as my experience with a S Nano Puff – but the M hung off of me and looked boxy. It was clearly too large. The S fit just right! I would recommend.

We will see how it holds up on the trail and daily living – but can’t comment on that yet!.

Just received this jacket, only used it for a day or so at the river. Kept me warm after dark, brushed through/got lightly caught on sticker-bushes multiple times with minimal regard for fabric fragility and I don’t see any holes.

That’s amazing for a puffy. Looks as stylish and puffy the more expensive down version, but I prefer synthetic. I LOVE the fabric is NOT SHINY nor wrinkly. This fully embraces the retro “low tech” look while using capable & modern insulation tech.

Happy to have this. Doesn’t pack QUITE as small or light as I hoped, though still impressive for synthetic. I believe the durability more than makes up for this. I added a ribbon to the main zip for easier handling.

Nice snug hood, pretty color (dandelion). I would not pay MSRP for this, but at 50% off, it’s perfect. Sheds splashes of water easily. IMO this is perfect for rainy mild climates (PNW) where the Expedition Down line is honestly overkill.

Typically Fjallraven coats are oversized for me so I size down to XS, but this I bought my usual S size and it’s perfect as a warm outer layer. I hope this lasts as long as my other Fjallraven gear… I’ll be set for life and look/feel good at all ages, haha.

I was looking for a jacket to throw on in the cold of winter that would be minimalistic in profile but not leave me freezing, mostly to wear into the office and for quick hikes during my lunch break.

I narrowed it down to either this or the Patagonia Down Sweater. This jacket was a better fit over all, I found the Patagonia to be loose in all the wrong places. I’m 5’10, 200lbs with an athletic build and the Large fits well.

This thing stands up to the cold, too. It’s great for light activities; I’ve worn it in 10 degF weather with only a t-shirt underneath and the insulation was adequate to keep me warm. Its best feature might be the hood.

It zips high enough to cover your mouth for extra heat retention. The price point means it’s not for everyone, but if you’re willing to fork over Patagonia prices for a jacket, this is one you should really consider.

As with all Scandinavian outdoor gear, you’ll get what you pay for.

So as the first review read color is not black size is not…proper fit…anyway I returned the large got my medium and said I’d come back to review once I tried it out. Medium fit much better but, here’s the but’s… I put it on 42 degree temp one long sleeve smiths work shirt and one lightweight thermal…it was a misty night with some light drizzle it did keep me dry but was definitely NOT warm for two shirts and 42 degrees… Next try a night later this time it was 36 degrees same two shirts and a kiddie sweatshirt low and behold it still wasn’t warm as you would think and naturally with these three shirts in now medium is to…snug.

Reason I purchased this jacket to begin with is when I bought my wife’s two Columbia’s one waist length one Parker knee length she can go out in a tee shirt sometimes a sweatshirt and she’s nice and warm.

This jacket , a much newer “technology” doesn’t do that for me. We’re I’m at now. Because I always believed in Columbia products I just ordered the even more expensive Heatzone Turbo Down 1000 to see how this one goes.

The whole idea of purchasing these Omni heat, heat zone, blah blah blah is so I don’t have to wear bulky shirts underneath. I wear a beat up old no name thin “bubble” jacket poly/down fill , no special technology no special liner, I paid $20.

00 for 4 years ago use it for work overnights “outside” and the night it was 36 degrees I wore this one later when I went to work I put on the $20 cheap one and it was warmer than this Columbia. Well let’s see how the new $450 heatzone 1000 does, and, I’ll be back to review that one.

Let’s hope it does what it claims.

This jacket introduced me to the Columbia brand because of how stylish is was. I had to buy it and see because I was in need of a warm jacket. I had to buy two jackets because the first one was too small in the arms and the length.

The second one was the better size but the arms and length are better but not perfect. I’m guessing the active fit for the sizing is the reason why. The gold Omni heat infinity stands out when I don’t have the jacket all the way zipped up.

The cinched hood and hem are great to have for the wind to not get in. The front chest pocket is what I have to get used to. It’s really for something small. The side pockets keep my hands warm when outside too.

There wasn’t many reviews about the jacket when I bought it but I think if someone else were to purchase this jacket, I’d recommend going a size up because of the active fit. Overall this is a good jacket but could be a little better.

Bought on Black Friday promo. Was given as a Christmas gift. First impressions left more to be desired. I have another Columbia that is 700 fill down. It is very puffy. This one at 650 is nearly flat comparatively.

I can’t see how this one would be near as warm. I had another that was rated at 800 and it was also flatter, lighter, and not near as warm as the 700. Wish Columbia could develop a warmth rating comparison system that was accurate, across all insulation materials.

Anyway, my son says he is warm enough in it. I think he’s trying to act tough as he seems like he’s trying to keep warm while out in the cold in the jacket. Within a few weeks with light wear it started to shed feathers.

He’s 5′ 10″ and 150 lbs. Large is a bit large on him. Plenty of room for layers, which he’ll probably need. Overall would recommend a different model for Iowa winters.

I 90% love this jacket. I am typically a medium in most North Face tops, though on the Sherpa patrol tops I sized up to a large and was not sure how this jacket would fit. I bought both sizes and went with the medium.

It had plenty of room to layer something thick like a hoodie, so I would say I found this to run a little large. It seems like a unique style for a winter coat and I got the yellow color, it isn’t bright yellow if you’re worried about that.

It’s more of a bomber length so for really cold cold days something longer may be desired. I’m short so this length works for me. The outer fabric seems extremely durable, I haven’t tested the waterproofness yet but it blocks wind really well.

The face mask is a nice touch but I always forget to put it on before putting the jacket on. I wish the hood could detach but the hood is problematic for a few more reasons. Here is the 10% that I did not like: The hood.

The hood almost made this lose an entire star- I realize it isn’t a technical jacket, but who has a head that large? Sure, it is great if you want to wear a helmet under it but there is no adjustability besides the two cinches near the collar, not even like a lousy strap in the back with velcro on it to help bring the hood back so it doesn’t cover your eyes.

The fake fur, stylish touch but super floppy. I actually turned my ruff around, so now it’s super unstylish but a lot more functional. Minor pet peeves specific to me (Goldilocks) I like all my jackets to have two main zippers, because of the bulk of this jacket if I had a 2nd zipper to open the waist up when driving, sitting etc I think that would help it from bunching.

Arm pit zips would have been nice. I like the snaps on the storm flap, but I don’t like them for the pockets, I think zippers are easier to use for pockets and even magnets for the upper chest pockets.

Fleece lining in the hand pockets would have been a nice detail but now I’m really nit picking. All in all, a great winter jacket for New England winters!.

Love the coat. Stylish and cozy. Huge fan of the colour as most coats these days only come in standard black or dark blue. A decision point for me was that you could remove the faux fur on the hood lining.

The simplicity of the design is great—I like that there is not too many zippers to deal with (for lots of coats this can later become an issue). So far I have used down to -7 winter weather but am looking forward to this keeping warm in colder weather it has been recommended for.

I spilled coffee on the sleeve the second time I wore it but since it’s water proof I was able to easily brush off the liquids. Great coat for the cost, plus I noticed that the Altitude Sports price was about $100 cheaper than every other supplier I looked at, even the Northface website which is confusing to me.

Size runs slightly bigger than my previous Medium coat but still fits great as I don’t mind some extra coat past my waist.

I’m 5’9 and 150lb. and bought an XS. It’s perfect in the sleeves and shoulders and very slightly snug when zipped up. It is still a bit long on my frame. A small would have been massive. The sizing seems to take into account some serious layering underneath.

I needed it for a chillier than usual West Coast winter, but I never wore more than a wool base layer underneath. It was still plenty toasty in -10C and windchill. It’s a well made jacket that looks like it could withstand some serious abuse with plenty of pocket space while wearing gloves and a touch of urban styling.

The faux fur looks great and really helps keep my face warm with the hood up.

Excellent quality coat, lightweight yet warm. Nice front pockets, angled correctly so cell phone doesn’t fall out when seated. Best thing was purchasing this through Tractor Supply. I had looked at the usual larger stores but they did not have the color I wanted, but Tractor Supply did.

I got a good sale price on it, too. Unfortunately, the coat was too big and I had to return it. By the time I returned it, the price went up. But a quick call to customer service got me the right size jacket for the original sale price.

I used the ship to store option and it was great. Returning the first jacket was easy at the store. Very friendly staff, interested in helping out the customer. 5 stars for the jacket and Tractor Supply!.

Bought this for a present for my husband. I own Columbia fleece jackets, and the quality of the stitching, the zipper, the fleece is excellent. Thus, I chose this jacket for him. After I bought it, I realized that he already owned the exact same style, etc.

This one will be used when he wants to look his best and he will continue to use the other for in house or when he is doing something messy. Very well made, color is true, keeps him warm, he can wear layers underneath.

As stated in another review, the fur doesn’t look as nice in the picture. Its attached to a removable strip you can un-button from inside the collar of the jacket. (That part to me is a plus, can remove before washing.

) By no means does it look awful to me, but it looks a bit cheaper and I would have liked it if the fur were a bit thicker / sat better on the jacket as well. (Maybe I just got a bad bit o’ fur, not enough reviews to know for sure or not.

) Aside from that though, zero complaints about the jacket itself. It feels nice. It’s on the bulkier side, but it’s a parka made for colder winter weather so that is to be expected – it’s kept me warm in the northern end of the Midwest.

I have received multiple comments on how nice it looks as well, which I did not expect given the bulk of the jacket. (While on topic about the bulk of the jacket, I should throw in there that it feels pretty light for how large it is, which isn’t a bad thing imo) I’m 6’1″ at about 200 and went with a large, it’s perfect sized for me with room to wear plenty underneath if I wished to layer as well.

4/5 from me, because of the room for improvement in the quality of the fur and the pockets could have used some kind of inner lining to help protect your hands from the cold (if you’re one who walks with your hands in your pockets to keep them warm as I am often times, that may be important to note) Overall, solid purchase with zero buyers remorse ~ was searching for jackets and saw this randomly in the list without reviews but it was significantly cheaper than all the other options due to the sale.

For the sale price (at around 180 after tax at the time of my purchase and this review) I can recommend.

I have wide shoulders,jacket could have a bit more room at the shoulders, otherwise it seems to be okay.

Purchased for my 13yr old son and it is perfect for the winter. He really loves the Legend Earth colour too, something different to just another black winter coat. Both of us are really happy with it and good value too.

This down jacket is extremely light weigh yet is very warm. I like the fact that it is not bulky so it is quite comfortable wearing while I drive. The pockets are deep and have snap closures. The exterior pocket design allows for open pockets inside the jacket, perfect to hold my headband/ear covers and/or gator.

I live in Minnesota, so a warm jacket is a must. There aren’t too many other jackets like this (wool/down) at this at this price point aside from Woolrich, and this looks much better in my opinion. I wear business professional to work, and this looks more polished in this setting, more so than Gore-Tex/outdoor style jackets.

4*, as while it is warm, it isn’t as warm as some other popular jackets in this price range (Canada Goose, Veilance Monitor Down, etc). It has done well with solely a T-shirt underneath in single 10-20 degree weather however.

I have a strong preference for winter coats using natural insulation and this is one of the only options for combination of down and wool. And it offers as wide a range of comfort as you’d hope–e. g.

, I can wear it comfortably in a heated car as well as in cool weather without having to even zip or unzip. But there are disappointments (especially considering the price). For a brand that bills itself as catering to modern lifestyles, it’s odd that there’s no good pocket for securely holding a larger phone.

And the zippers on the neck really take away from a finished look (the material that covers them always awkwardly lifts up). (There is a hoodless version of the coat without them, but unfortunately it’s only offered in a light color.

) So, overall pretty good if you’re like me and mostly going for the functionality the materials offer.

Sizing,warmth, and look is very nice. I bought this with the intent of not layering. I wear this with a dress shirt and the cut is fitted in a comfortable way. I’m 5’11, broad shoulders, and the fit was very comfortable– i can easily move my arms with ease and length on arms is good.

Size Large was my purchase.

This is in many ways the perfect three-season jacket. The style and fit are just right, it’s practical and functional. The liner is warm enough but never feels bulky. The cuffs stay where you put them and the entire jacket and the collar hold their shape well.

I wear this in all kinds of weather and it’s suitable for everything short of freezing conditions. Sizing is spot-on; I am 5’10 and 189 lbs and the Large fits me perfectly, enough room to layer a sweatshirt underneath for blustery cold days.

Like it so well I have four of them! And as a bonus you can throw it in the washing machine and let it drip dry. I’ve given them as gifts too, and the price can’t be beat!.

I bought this to replace an old, worn out Cabela’s Three Season Jacket since that jacket has been discontinued. After leaving the pick up desk, I almost turned around and returned because the package was way too light.

When I got to my car I opened it and it was the jacket that I had ordered but it was light and flimsy and nothing like the old one. I did not return it and have worn it half a dozen times and it’s OK.

It’s warm but the shell is flimsy and seems like the first blackberry bush is going to shred it. We will see.

I had been looking for a nice winter coat that was not bulky. This 3 season coat fit the bill perfectly. It was warm in our recent 14 degree days and is comfortable in 40 degree weather. Fits my hefty frame without bunching up around me in the car.

I am very satisfied.

I?m a petite adult where girls sizing is more proportionate for me. North Face sizing for adults runs small and the arms are always so tight; I like Patagonia?s girl?s sizing so much better. The arms are cut more comfortably and the width is just right.

I ordered this in size XXL and have plenty of room for thick sweatshirts and sweaters. I am very happy with this parka and am using it more than I thought I would as an everyday coat for early in the season MN winters.

The length is perfect though I have to cuff the sleeves (no big deal as I have short arms). I love the double styled pockets, it makes it more functional without adding bulk. The fleece interior certainly adds to the warmth as well.

I bought this jacket two years ago for casual, urban winter use (mainly urban commuting). I’ve been very happy with this product. I have worn it from -5C to -40C (with windchill). It’s kept me warm throughout that temperature range as long as I layer appropriately.

It’s wind and waterproof like the description says. It has plenty of pockets and the handwarmers work for me. Fit true to size for me. Same size I’ve worn with other Patagonia products. This is not a breathable jacket, but I don’t think it’s designed to be – and that’s okay.

It’s a durable winter jacket that keeps me warm going to work or running errands. It’s not the jacket I’d wear doing any kind of winter activity (although, I have worn it snowshoeing with some success) due to the lack of breathability.

I would buy this jacket again.

I tried the Northface McMurdo III before buying the Patagonia Tooley. The Northface is much more puffier, but the design is rather careless. On the Northface for example, there’s no drawstring at the bottom or hip adjustment – so if you’re out in windy conditions there’s nothing to keep you from losing the insulated warm air you’re trying to trap inside.

The Patagonia is less lofty/puffy but fits great, has a drawstring at the bottom to secure a good fit, a zippered from chest pocket, and just generally good design. Having said that, this not a -30C jacket.

And unlike the Northface McMurdo, it is shorter (down to the waist). I recommend it for the quality to those who like to wear layers.
