20 Best Window Air Conditioner For Large Room (2023 Updated)

This AC unit was purchased through Home Depot and shipped UPS. The packaging was completely in tact and the product was in pristine condition. Installation requires only a few simple tools that anyone capable of installing the unit properly would certainly already own.

If you are not at least a little handy, get a helper who is. I have installed several units on old wooden sash windows and this one in an older aluminum frame window from the seventies. Sometimes you do have to make adjustments for a product installation.

Not a big deal to install, but follow the included installation instructions and get a helper. I believe it is possible for one person to install, but one slip with sweaty hands or forearms or a sticky window and it could be a very bad day.

The last thing you want is to have the unit fall out of the window and crash to the ground. Be sure to follow the install instructions in sequence. If you use the included filler panels, they need to go on the unit before the whole unit is placed in the opening.

I did read the instructions beforehand and knew this was necessary, but chose to quick-fit the unit without these in the way to see where the unit would sit and exactly where it would go first. My wife noticed right away when I called her back in the room to help with the final installation.

She said,”I guess these should have been installed first. ” I had to laugh. She was right. This is a nice unit. The controls are intuitive and the buttons on the unit and remote are large enough, clearly marked and provide good feedback.

I wish the temperature controls were on the remote as well as the main unit. Everything else you really need is on the remote. It cools great! I do wish the low setting was a little lower. I’m sure the fan would be a tad quieter and the low fan speed is more than plenty for the small office it is in.

I would recommend this unit.

Bought this unit for our bedroom. Having read horror stories about loud units, units dying after one season, smelly units, I thought paying $250 and the decent reviews might save me from these problems.

Well, it died after only a year and a half, and was only covered for 1 year. Fan/blower seems to have just up and died out of nowhere. Now the unit just emits a buzzing sound and doesn’t move air at all.

Regularly maintained, cleaned filter every few weeks. Only ran overnight in the bedroom after dark, so minimal use. Disappointing, would’ve gone with a cheaper unit if I knew it wouldn’t even last 2 years.

Add to it that it was fairly noisy, and seems to have an issue with developing ‘funk’ smell pretty regularly despite a clear and properly tilted drain pan, and I would recommend avoiding this unit despite the relatively positive reviews.

The ‘smart’ features on it are painful to set up and cumbersome to manage as well. Each temperature/mode change has to get its own entry, and if you ever need to disable the schedule for any reason (cooler day, traveling, etc.

) it completely wipes out all of your entries, and has to be re-programmed from scratch, which for me meant re-adding a dozen of these lines one at a time, waiting for the machine to ‘receive’ the schedule entry and update, before allowing you to enter another.

I would’ve given it 4 stars had it lasted more than 18 months, and I assume that’s where it got most of its reviews from.

I purchased this model through Best Buy on June 15th 2022. While it was on, it was lovely. Gave out cool air readily and it was relatively quiet. But on July 19th 2022, the A/C unit suddenly stopped working.

It would beep intermittently and display “88” with all the buttons lit up. After looking up this error online, I realized that there were other customers with the same experience. There were a lot of reviews on this model stating the customer reported their A/C gave out after a few weeks, months or even a year after purchase.

I tried to call GE’s customer support line the next day, right at opening time, but couldn’t get through. I ended up sending an email with my concerns. I received an email back 2 days later stating the unit is too small to service, but I can return the unit to the vendor if it’s within 90 days of the original purchase date.

If it’s been more than 90 days, GE will send a rebate check for the amount of purchase of another GE model A/C unit. Of course, I had to jump through major hoops to get Best Buy to accept my return/exchange.

This experience has lead me to never purchase another GE model appliance. Why would GE continue to sell a faulty A/C unit if there are numerous complaints that it stops working after a short amount of time? This A/C unit lasted me a littler over a month.

That is unacceptable.

Saw reviews of LG AC’s in Consumer Reports, so I took the plunge when I saw one at Home Depot. It replaced a 30 year-old Westinghouse unit in the bedroom. It is light and easy to install, and the controls are easy to use.

The AC is not as quiet as I thought it would be. The energy saving mode turns the unit on in two stages – fan only, then the compressor kicks in, which is nice, but it turns off with kind of a thump, waking me up.

That’s in addition to the grinding mechanical sound it makes while it’s cooling. I work nights and the fact that SUNLIGHT actually leaks through the unit was surprising, as well as a lot more street noise than I am used to.

I don’t know if the temp setting is calibrated properly. We set it at 72 and it feels much warmer than that. Setting it at 69-70 feels better. So, not too happy with this thing, but not unhappy enough to pull it out and replace it with another unit.

I’ve been buying LGs for a while now and this 8000 BTU AC is awesome. I just got a 15,000 BTU and this 8,000 BTU when my central air went out. I live in South Florida so AC is mandatory. Both are great units and cool extremely quickly.

I LOVE THE DEHUMIDIFIER FEATURE!! It pulls the humidity out of the air and drops the teml faster. Both units are extremely quiet, and are easy to install. They are great backups to have if my air goes out again or I may just keep these on instead, saving about $80 a month with these vs my central air.

I bought this specifically because the control pad is on the right hand side of the unit. Most window air conditioners have the control pad on the left. There are two very good reasons I needed this feature.

1 – The unit is located in a window in the left corner of my kitchen, so it is much easier to reach the control pad on the right. (I tend to misplace the remote, so I don’t always have it available. ) 2 – On units with the control pad on the right (such as this one), the internal HORIZONTAL fan rotates clockwise, therefore the air blows out of the vents to the right (towards the control pad).

Since my window in in a left-hand corner, this blows the air into the room, rather than into the wall to the left of it. Window A/Cs with the control pad on the left do just the opposite. The HORIZONTAL fan rotates “counter”-clockwise and blows the air to the left.

So with a window A/C you can adjust the plastic vents all you want, but the main air flow direction is always dependent on which way the internal horizontal fan rotates. Portable (non-window) A/Cs have a VERTICAL fan that rotates directly towards you, so the air blows straight out, instead of to one side or the other.

4 stars instead of 5 is for two reasons: 1 – The filter cover rattles and I had to put tape on it to stop the noise. 2 – Every time the unit is powered on, it starts in Energy Saver mode. So since I like it in Cool mode, I have to change it to COOL every single time I power it on.

It does however keep the previous temperature degree setting though. Aside from that, this unit pumps out good air flow and the thermostat keeps the temperature at the indicated value. Compared to my other window units, High and Medium fan speeds are similar to each other and both kinda loud but Low fan speed is noticeably slower and fairly quiet.

There is a noticeable soft low end hum (like a telephone pole transformer) that’s always present when unit is powered on. That noise does not change if the compressor is on or off, nor does fan speed seem to affect it, so it must be something other than the fan or compressor.

Purchased to replace an older unit. We recently decided to upgrade from a 6000 to 8000 BTU AC. The smaller unit was struggling to keep the room at a comfortable level. It’s a difficult room to cool – direct sun in the afternoon plus a large custom gaming computer is used in here many hours a day.

This new Frigidaire AC works really well and also has a few additional features & improvements. It seems to be made very well, easy to install and operates quietly. We purchased it at our local BJ’s Club.

I called today and talked to four different people at Frigidaire. I opened up my unit for a different reason and when I opened it I found a BLACK mold in the unit, It is about a year old I am very upset to see this black black mold.

Is there anything I can do for it. I tried to clean it , I couldn’t get all the places. Also the reason I opened it was to try to get the beep out of the system anytime I changed anything it would beep and wake up my wife.

I could not open the left upper metal box that had a warning on it about voltage I wanted to get to the speaker that makes the beep to shut it off. I could not open up the metal box to go to the speaker.

I purchased this air conditioner recently for my small 100 sqft office space. I am not bothered by a little bit of noise, especially the white noise that most air conditioners make. The first hour or so with this little ac was quite pleasant.

The room was cold and the noise running is fairly typical. What I didn’t know was that this AC, like many modern ACs, collects water inside the base tray and has a rotating ring (slinger ring) that splashes water back onto the coils to both cool it and this evaporates out.

However, once this base tray is full of water, there is an inconsistent scraping/rustling sound that will not go away. I live in New England, so not a very humid part of the country so I attribute this to poor design on the products part, perhaps it could benefit from an overflow drain.

Additionally, knowing that LG is usually a great brand, I returned my first unit and got another, only to find the same issue, so fairly sure it isn’t a lemon. I can tune out white noise, but inconsistent interruptions are too distracting for me.

The noise was a deal breaker here, especially because it is advertised by LG as quiet, but I found that it still cooled quite well.

The thermostat must blend outside air to determine whether or not to turn on the compressor. If the room is too warm, but outside is cool, the compressor won’t turn on unless you crank the cooling way down.

If it’s warm inside and outside the system will run the compressor non-stop, eventually the room gets very very cold. but the system is oblivious and the compressor keeps running. Essentially this thing has no idea what the temperature is inside the room it’s trying to cool.

It’s does a good job cooling, but we have to constantly spin the cooling knob to keep it working properly.

Several years ago we began replacing all of our old window air conditioners. I looked around and did some comparisons and chose the 5,000 btu LG because the price was reasonable and I hoped it would be of the same quality as other LG appliances we have.

I have not been disappointed. I now have four of these units purchased over the last six years and all of them have provided reliable and constant summertime service. Though I have a few different models with different features all have been great.

I highly recommend the LG 5,000 btu window air conditioner for any room in your house.

My last GE window AC ran almost continuously for 3 years. We livid in South FL and weee using it in a back room that did not get cold enough from the central AC. To this day it is still working just fine.

Yet, we wanted a new unit that had the remote control and we chose the GE. Performance speaks louder then advertising and out last GE unit spoke loudy. We will keep the old unit as a back up for hurricane season to cool another bedroom if needed.

As a return specialist for a major home supplier (HD) I can tell you that “I rarely see this units come back, as opposed to other brands”. When I do it’s usually because the customer bought them back after short term use when there central ac is out and they are waiting for it to be repaired.

Not a nice thing to do by the way. Really great little units to have down here for hurricane season to set up a hurricane room to sleep in comfort running off a generator when the power is out for days.

So if you buy them for that central outage, keep them and store them away for that time you will need them and everyone is sold out of portables.

Got it just in time for the heat wave we were starting. Received AC on a Friday, installed it on Saturday only to find tray that holds the works was damaged. AC was making knocking noises when you turned it on.

Called LG explaining this damaged merchandise. Again this is in the midst of a heat wave. Was told by LG they will send a repair man out to take care of it. Monday morning got an email that they were still looking for a repairman.

Sent email back later that day asking what was going on. Tuesday there was still no answer. Called HomeDepot where I ordered it from, they sent for pick up of the unit and I ordered another LG AC. Damaged one was picked up the following day, new one came in on Friday, installed on Saturday but haven’t really used it yet with the cold front that came through for this week.

Sounds good and does cool. Will know more once the weekend comes with the warm humid weather.

I’ve used my LG AC for a couple weeks and I’m glad I bought it. It does the job for what I got it for and does it easily. The features it has are great and the remote is nice. The installation kit is better than what I normally see.

Easy to install and it’s solid. Before I bought it I was debating on brand, but my Son bought an LG washer and dryer a while back and they are very nice. I figured since those are such nice units the brand must be tops.

I had a 6,000btu Frigidaire AC for the last 5 years and upgraded to this 8,000btu LG AC a couple months ago during a heat spell when I needed better cooling. I cannot believe the difference this AC has made in cooling my loft that has a lot of southern sun exposure on the roof.

It actually gets it too cold on 95 F degree days and I have to turn the temperature up on it. I absolutely love the remote and digital system, as my last one was analogue and I have my AC in a window high up in my loft where I must climb a ladder to reach it.

The remote and receptor in the machine work perfectly and I never have to struggle to get it to change its settings. It is very convenient, to say the least. I love being able to change the settings while in bed.

A note on the temperature, when I set it to 70 F degrees for example, my apartment will stay within two degrees of that for the rest of the day, even when it was 100 F outside. My last ac had the filter designed to be removed through the side, which didn’t work very well with the way the ac is installed, so I cleaned the filter rarely.

This one has the filter easily accessible through the front slot. The only things that are less than perfect about this very strong and well-designed ac would be the noises it makes. It isn’t super loud, but here’s the deal.

It’s actually quieter than my last ac when it’s just running along smoothly, though we’ve had to use tape and shims to keep some of the front parts from rattling a bit. But when the compressor kicks on, it makes a kind of loud dull thud sound occasionally, but not always.

The overall hum of the ac is a bit higher than my previous one, but I like it. The funny thing is that I’m more annoyed by the sounds it makes when I’m up doing stuff than when I’m sleeping, and I am a light sleeper and I sleep right under it.

So it’s not that loud but the change in sound when the compressor turns on catches my attention sometimes in the day when I’m working at my computer. Not a big deal, and not loud enough that I am constantly annoyed at it either, which would not work for me.

The last thing I want to mention is that I read a lot of reviews on this and others before buying, and while most reviews were positive, some amazon reviews said that they had received a lemon (their’s didn’t work, didn’t cool, rattled loudly, leaked, etc).

I recommend that you plug yours in and turn it on for a while once you get it unpackaged, and make sure that it cools well and doesn’t make too much noise for you before you go ahead and install it. We did that, and I could tell within a minute that it was sending extremely cool air out and that it was relatively quiet.

I also read an amazon review about how some of these have the compressor a little too close to a pipe inside, and an easy fix is to unscrew and open up the side panel, and secure pipe insulation around the metal pipe if yours is rattling against the compressor when it turns on.

Also, note that if you leave it on for a bit in your house while testing it, you may want to put a towel or tray under it so that if it lets out some water (as is normal with an air conditioner) that it won’t get your place wet.

One last note: We had a hard time finding out what to do about the drain plug on the bottom, with a little rubber stopper. We didn’t know if we should leave that stopper in or take it out, since there was nothing in the manual about it.

After researching online extensively we came to the conclusion that you only need to take it out if you live in a very humid climate, otherwise the vents that allow the water to escape in the back should be enough to let the water out, since there is a fan inside that flings the water through them.

If you take the stopper out in a less humid climate then you run the risk of the ac working less efficiently, because apparently it uses the water in the pan at the bottom of the inside of the ac as part of its cooling strategy.

In conclusion: This AC is awesome if you get a good one. Be prepared to try it out as soon as you get it and just return it for a new one if yours has a problem. I got mine off amazon, where I could return it if I got a bad one, and after shopping around all of the internet I got a decent price as well.

I just have had this unit for about a week now, but so far its great. It cools the room down well and seems to be doing a great job of helping to dry the air, a major plus! It was a fairly straight forward setup, I had a friend install it in the window for me and he was done in under 20 minutes.

The controls are super easy to use and with the remote even easier. I have mine set on low fan and 74 and its veryyy comfortable in my room (its aprox. 340 sq. ft). I have not set it up for the “smart controls”, and probably wont, but still kinda neat to have that option.

I will say, when the compresser is running, it is a bit on the noisy side, not loud enough to make me send it back, but still not super quiet as it was described, though when its only the fan running it is very quiet.

Over all I feel for the price and what this unit does, its a great deal so far.

I replaced a window unit that was installed in 2019 which was very loud and with my having hearing aids it became so annoying, It also was not doing a very good job of conditioning the air and the controls did not work properly.

This window 8000btu unit (LW8016ER) is very quiet and removed the problem I was having with the irritable noice I heard. Also the controls are much more functional and has a few more settings the other unit did not have.

Because of the room size I probably was on the edge of needing a 10000 btu but had to select the 8000btu size because of the window size with only a few inches left on each side. With a little bit more effort it went in very nicely and conditions the air to my satisfaction.

Needless to say I’m happy with this unit.

I bought this product in September 2020. And oh my goodness, I love it. I loved it so much I told my daughter about it and she bought one too. It cools my home, and I don’t have to worry when it gets cold.

I just turn it to heater mode. I love it so much. Thinking about getting another one for my bedroom.

This thing is basically my firstborn child at this point. Yes, it’s expensive, but it’s SO worth it. It works like a charm even on the lowest setting (low + sleep mode) and it keeps my living room cool with minimal energy consumption.

I can’t get over how cheap it is in terms of electricity, it barely raised my Hydro bill. It IS a bit of a hassle to install, but you can then just forget about any heat wave for the whole summer. It’s absolutely incredible, and I will only sell it if I ever get central heating.

Otherwise it stays with me. Also, the Wifi control feels like such an unnecessary luxury, but it’s one I enjoy far too much. The power that you feel when you can just open an app and turn it on or off.

I bought this air conditioner thinking LG was a good brand and-or would at least have good customer service. NO to both. I emailed and called to ask a question about my new air conditioner and no response.

Very difficult to install. It comes in 3 pieces first you install the frame, then the unit, then tge front. Be careful of what kind of window you have had to drill a piece of wood into my window frame.

I had a 10. 000 BTU old clunker that cooked better. I wanted a new one because it was noisy. I will say this is quiet. I would have returned but it was just to heavy to do so. Has absolutely, no special features.

And dims my lights if I use the economy mode. I really advise against this product.

I live in Arizona, I purchased this unit to cool my garage during the hot summer months. After installation and when the hot weather arrived, air conditioner stopped working as soon as the outside temperatures exceeded 100 degrees.

Isn’t that special? An air conditioner that fails to function when it gets hot out! LG is trying to claim that the unit is designed this way so that it doesn’t overheat and get damaged and that this isn’t a malfunction! That is clearly an excuse so that they don’t have to refund my money.

Even their own repair person (who was here twice) said the air conditioner wasn’t designed for the hot desert heat conditions here in the Phoenix, AZ area, DON’T PURCHASE THIS A/C IF YOU LIVE IN AN AREA THAT GETS HOT!.

I bought this one as a replacement for the last one that was an LG. It made it 15 years. This one is okay until it gets hot. Even says on the Side of the unit that the compressor will cycle to keep it from being damaged from overheating.

I can live with that if it would only do that. After an hour of cycling the unit stops and gives a code for compressor over temperature. The new refrigerant goes over critical temperature and that is what causes the problem.

I contacted LG and have not had a technician respond as of yet. I would suppose going to a different refrigerant would solve the problem.

I purchased this unit on September 3rd, 2020. Install went smoothly and everything was working well. July 2021 rolls around and the unit completely STOPPED. I couldn’t turn it on, change any settings, nothing.

Either on the face of the unit or through the app. So I called GE to see what to do. They basically told me that I need to go out and purchase another unit, send them the receipt, and they will send me a check within 5-6 WEEKS.

Absolutely not. That’s ridiculous. The product was defective and STILL UNDER THE 1 YEAR WARRANTY! Anyway, I said forget that, realized I purchased an extended warranty for PC Richard, called them and they replaced it for me no charge, no hassle.

Fast forward to August 2022, my replacement GE unit stops working AGAIN- same exact problem. This time I’m TWO WEEKS out of the manufacturer’s warranty. I call GE again, they’re closed. Called my local PC Richard, they said come in well see what we can do.

The manager extended the warranty for me at no cost so I could return the unit and gave me a full refund so I could buy a different brand. FANTASTIC CUSTOMER SERVICE!! Moral of the story, AVOID GE but always shop at PC Richard.

I purchased this because the design is nice and worked really hard to install it myself. It wasn’t until after I threw out the box and everything, that I realize how loud this AC is. On low fan, it’s perfectly tolerable except the unit won’t push cool air very well.

It only does well on high fan and this high fan is extremely loud. So loud that I have to have my computer volume at nearly maximum, people cannot hear me in meetings (I work from home) and I cannot even hear the environment around me when I’m home alone at night.

I recently spoke to a relative who bought the same unit and returned it because of the noise. Had I known she tried it out and returned it due to noise, I would’ve never bought mine to begin with. Now I’m stuck with this AC that turns off and on (eco mode) at night, waking me up.

I don’t think I’ve slept well for a while and the unit itself doesn’t really cool the square footage it says. My bedroom is much smaller and it still struggles on high fan. Also, the remote has no temp sensor so the black square on the center is useless and the remote is so stupid.

I don’t recommend!.

I have been a loyal Frigidaire customer. Have several products. This one was not evaporating the condensate and was not draining. Called customer service a number of times. Finally got a rep and he didn’t know a thing.

He was checking (Foreign Rep) and after a long wait he disconnected me. Tried calling a number of ties more and continually message said “No one available. ” Got frustrated when the thing was making noise constantly due to the condensate problem.

It was installed exactly as instructions stated and I have a construction background. Finally got frustrated and tried to drill a small hole to drain condensate. I hit a refrigerant line and destroyed the unit.

I was a jerk for doing it, but Frigidaire stinks now to me. Had they had actual customer service I might not have tried what I did. Very upset with them and myself! Won’t but Frigidaire anymore!.

Stops working after the first few months. This is the second unit I had to purchase within 2 years, that’s absolutely ridiculous. The first one just stopped running even when on & the second ones fan got loose within and also stops running when on every now and then like the first one.

After the first one went out (didn’t get protection on it) I learned half of my lesson and got the protection, it’s only been SIX MONTHS since I purchased it. After trying to file a claim with insurance, they tell me that the EXTRA money I paid to “INSURE” it doesn’t cover the issue I am having.

The added protection plan is clearly a ruse to take more money out of you along with product breaking down just a few months in forcing you to buy ANOTHER unit. BEYOND FURIOUS.

Bought Chill Premier to replace 20 year old Friedrich 10k BTU window unit. I’ve bought 2 Chill Premiers, 18k BTU and 24k BTU, which work well for the large area they service. This 12k BTU is used in a bedroom with high ceilings.

I looked forward to cooling comfort and quiet operation. This delivered on the cooling, but air blowing noise proved intolerable. On the lowest fan setting, air blew through vents with a volume perhaps too great for the small vent openings.

Whether automated or manual setting, the rapid air movement creates a lot of noise. This is the Bernoulli Principle. Larger vents would allow same volume of air without the strong rush. I have been brand loyal, bought 5 Friedrichs recently.

This one is the most disappointing because of the noise. I thought other reviewers were exaggerating, but they weren’t. I replaced the 12k BTU with a highly rated competitor’s model which can run at high fan speed as well as very low and get cooling and comfort as I expected.

Can now see if the competitor’s brand lasts 20 years without a problem as did the Friedrich. I only buy models that have a removable outer case. It’s much easier to mount in a window without risk of dropping the unit.

Both Friedrich and the competitor offer this feature.

We bought the Friedrich Premier AC Unit. My husband bought this AC unit last year. It barely worked for a couple months, filled with water and uncontrollably beeped and did its own thing. We’d turn it off and it would turn itself back on to keep turning on and off and uncontrollably beep.

and at times it wouldn’t let us turn it off. We were under warranty so had to take it to an inconvenient location where they took forever and gave it back with the same problems. and repeat. Fast forward to this summer because its supposedly fixed now.

We’ve used it maybe 10 times so far and only at night. It started doing the turn on and off and beeping again at 3am. The company states this AC unit will work for 10-20 years. which is just a pathetic joke.

I am currently 8 months pregnant and really don’t need our air conditioner, of maybe a years total use, to quit working. Again, we only use it mainly at night for a small room and it constantly wakes us up with beeping and turning off and on.

on its own. We aren’t using the money saver feature, which might stop the AC when it gets to a certain temp. I really wish we could have our money back. I highly recommend this company stop selling this piece of s**t as if it were an AC unit and I highly recommend not buying this.

My first ever 1 star rating.

I had the older model of this for almost 10 years and it worked like a champ despite the grueling conditions it was subject to. I work at home on the third floor and it gets HOT up here and stays that way for two thirds if the year so the AC runs pretty much from March to November/December.

In fact, it still runs fairly well given its age and usage but I felt it was time for a new unit. Because of all this, I decided to go with another Frigidaire of the same type and boy, did I make a good decision! This AC is great! It’s fairly quiet, all things considered and cools very well.

Despite being on the third floor of an older home with a metal roof directly above the room, it has no trouble maintaining a nice 71° at all times. The WiFi is an added bonus and integrating it with Alexa and Google Home (yes, I have both) was easy and works very well.

With the addition of a temperature sensor I was even able to create routines to turn the fan up and down depending on the temperature in the room! One thing I was surprised about was the remote control being included as it wasn’t mentioned anywhere in the product description where I purchased it.

It’s nice to have the backup in case the WiFi goes down or I just don’t feel like talking to Alexa/Google. I’m also impressed by it’s energy usage which is below what my last AC used and yet manages to out perform it handily.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good, solid window AC even if they don’t want or need the WiFi aspect. I look forward to buying another Frigidaire AC in another 10 years or so!.

I have only had this unit for a few weeks but it is a game changer for me! I have a large mobile home from the 80’s ( very little insulation) with the original central ac unit in hot central Florida.

While running the mobile’s central air, I had to choose between minimal comfort and a sky high electric bill. In addition I had to constantly get up to adjust the thermostat because of the swings between hot and cold.

I monitor my electric bill via an app with the electric company and the LG ac has cut my bill by more than half while running it like I want. Plus the LG app is great! Now I see instantly all the energy stats related to the unit and I can adjust temperature while laying on the couch for perfection! The unit is so quiet too! This isn’t your Window unit from the old days, it is like a mini split but at a slightly higher window unit cost.

The LG is so adjustable and flexible! What made me purchase the unit was another review that said just buy it, now I am saying the same!.

This unit is very nice because the compressor is super quiet. There is fan noise of air moving, of course, depending on the fan speed. However when the compressor kicks in, the sound level does not ramp up.

there is no compressor hum or sudden kick on/off of the compressor. It’s a very smooth running unit. You will need time to mount it, just don’t expect to slap it in the window and walk away. Also, consider secondary support of the unit, unless you have an unusually thick window frame.

The bonus is that the heavy interior components slide-out so you can take your time properly mounting and supporting the lighter unit housing in your window. Once the mounting is done, slide the interior component back in, secure with a couple screws, and you’re ready to cool.

It cools very quickly and the fan can push the cool air for quite a distance with the fan on high. Getting the wifi set up isn’t too tedious, however, follow the directions about disabling the cellular data on your phone while connecting the unit via the thinq app to your wifi.

Once it is connected to wifi, the app interface works well. You can remotely change the fan speed, cooling functions and temperature setting. It also displays the current detected room temperature. It does integrate with Amazon Alexa, however I haven’t really figured out voice commands for it.

It’s basically limited to changing the temperature setting on Alexa. So, I just use the thinQ app mostly. I am very happy with purchasing this unit over other units that may have been a few dollars cheaper, the dual inverter compressor is really quiet.

I have owned the 1517vsm for about 2 years now. At first it seemed to perform well. I cleaned the filter weekly even if the filter light wasn’t on. Then over time, it seemed like the different fan speeds seemed to slowly all be the same.

I get the same output whether I choose F1, F2 or F3. Therefore, it doesn’t move enough air to cool properly and ices over constantly even if I don’t set the temp too low. They said to clean the evaporator, which I did and no difference.

I then had it professionally done. It’s looks really clean and the tech said it was good to go. But still doesn’t cool or perform as well as an older, much smaller, much cheaper unit we have in another bigger room.

If the fan speeds were representative of the display, it might work better. Too bad as this LG cost a lot and I really wanted to like it.

Being a Floridian I have a large, 429 sqft Florida Room with insulated roof and vinyl windows. For about half the year this is awesome and if the room gets a little warm you can just open the windows but from Late May through Late September it’s just too hot and humid.

We had been looking for a good AC for this room and the LG 18,000 BTU Smart Wi-Fi Enabled Window Air Conditioner looks like it is going to fit the bill perfectly! I had tried a smaller 9,000 BTU unit and it struggles too much with the mid-summer heat but this beast of an AC doesn’t even break a sweat! Packaging/In the Box – Upon opening the box I found the AC to be very well packaged/protected, this was a concern of mine due to the size and weight of the unit itself.

Removing the unit from the box/packaging was easy with some help, I highly suggest using two people for the entire unboxing and removal as this unit does weigh over 100lbs. Included with the unit are the instructions, the AC unit itself, a remote control, two PE foam strips, the left and right curtain panels, and install hardware.

Installation/Setup – Installation was easy with the instructions being very straight-forward. I love the fact that this is a “slide in unit” which allows you to slide off the outer shell, make the installation and then slide in the unit once that process is complete.

I know most installs are done window height through a double hung window but for my application we did install at ground level in a panel on the side of the Florida room. Note this install method is not supported but worked with little modification for my needs.

This unit is Wi-Fi enabled and can be controlled via the ThinQ app and can be integrated with Google or Alexa. In my case we integrated with my Google Home setup. App install and Google integration was as easy as expected for a current smart device.

Use – The on-board controls for the unit are as expected for basically any AC and resemble those for a central AC unit. The remote control is pretty basic and includes controls for power, temperature, Fan speed, Timer and Mode.

Personally, I control the unit via Google home or the ThinQ app. In the two days we have been using the unit we have had a temperature of 93 and 91 and the LG AC has kept our Florida room to a very comfortable 74 without having to stay constantly running! My Final thoughts on the LG 18,000 BTU Smart Wi-Fi Enabled Window Air is that this is a huge winner for me and anyone wanting a smart window AC.

The ease of install, the quality of the unit itself and finally the easy Google home integration make this sheer perfection. Thank you LG!!!!.

So very happy I got this air conditioner, it works flawlessly. compared to any of the many others I have had, this one is simply the best. What I noticed first was that it takes so much of the moisture out of the air.

I am able to set it 2 degrees higher than my other older AC unit and feel so much more comfortable. The auto function is amazing, I never have to say I have to adjust it to cool, fan only or shut it off.

It does all that as the room temperature changes with no input from me. today was a great test for it, 98-degree heat index, and this unit never blinked an eye at it. It is an amazingly quiet unit, it is in my bedroom/office area.

It does not bother my sleep in the least, I never notice it running. When it starts back up when needed, it barely makes a sound, no grumbling when the condenser kicks in. Just glides into action and the same when it goes back to fan mode.

This unit is cooling a space of 220 sf that has 3 open doorways to it so the actual area is bigger as the air escapes slightly. I spend 80% of my day in this area, this unit makes for a great comfort zone.
