I like the fact that is has manual “old school” 192. 168. etc etc configuration settings. It doesn’t not require any software to install it and it can be installed with any OS, even a smart phone with wifi is fine.

Took maybe a total of one or two minutes to configure with my own password. And the price around 20-30 bucks is great. It has two extra ethernet ports for hardwiring a smart tv and a google mini. Very happy.

Highly recommend it everyone who needs a router.

We needed a WIFI extender for our house, as the kids are doing schoolwork upstairs. I read about linked routers, extenders, repeaters, etc. I’m not tech, so it was a bit confusing. This router was great and very easy to set up.

Rather than using it as a primary router, we selected the WISP option (I’m not sure what WISP means) and we extended our WIFI network in our house. Super easy set up. Super clear instructions, Super cheap price.

navigating the configuration pages was a bit tricky and I think the thing did a FW update while I was configuring my settings. But, after a few tries the configuration pages worked and I’m up and running.

It does have a noticeably better range compared to what I was running before. I’ve been using it for only a few days and I’m very happy with it so far.

It might be silly but first impressions are important and the packaging for these was very robust with tight tolerances. Just what I would expect from something in this price range. My coverage area is quite large and extends to a detached barn where my wood working studio is located.

Even with very high powered single unit devices I have trouble with coverage. Not with this system I have them spaced across my property such that I get great coverage everywhere that I need. It is sort of like cell phone towers where as you move around the system calculates which node will give you the best reception and will switch you seamlessly if you move or in the unlikely even that one drops offline.

This is fast too giving gigabit speeds. This is done by communication between the units on another radio frequency as not to take up network resources. My internet is not that fast but I do a lot of internal file sharing and moving and really appreciate the speed this gives my local network.

I checked with customer support and they said up to 3 more units can be added to the system presumably doubling the coverage area. eero 6+ works as a smart home hub so you can control supported Thread and Zigbee devices with Alexa.

Use your eero 6+ with Alexa to control lights, locks, plugs, and more. I chatted into best buy and they said this is also compatible with google home. All in all this is one of the few products I would give an extra star to if I could.

Installation was easy too.

It looks stylish, but I wish it was black so it could blend in with my black furniture. I dont like it stand out too much, with all the antennas it kinda look a bit too much. It works great and My wifi signal got better and its a good improvement from my 10 year old router.

Easy to set up.

Has the most coverage in my house of any router I have ever used. Now I no longer need an extender to get my ring doorbell to work properly.

So, let me start off by saying that I currently use a Linksys router that is about four years old in the basement of my 3 story home (including the basement). That router has been working fine since I moved into my house, but I do notice that upstairs I get a slightly weaker and slower wifi signal.

So, i decided to try a mesh system after reading a lot about them and this specific one have a lot of good reviews. Well let me tell you how disappointing the system was. The biggest benefit I see to it was that it is extremely easy to set up.

Set up took about 10 minutes and then it updated for about another 10.  The Wi-Fi signal in the office that the main hub (the puck that was acting as the main router) was extremely fast. My current router gives me about 240 mbps down and this one did give me 380mbps.

But, on every other level of the home (I placed a puck in the basement, main level and upstairs) was extremely laggy. I couldn’t even stream Hulu or Netflix without it buffering every minute. And the Apple TV is inches away from the Wi-Fi puck.

everything on the Google Home app said that all three pucks had extremely strong signal and the mesh network seemed to be working seamlessly, but that didn’t feel like the case. Anywhere in the house besides being in the office with the main router on any device was extremely laggy.

Overall this system was very disappointing and I will probably just be getting another (stronger) single router and returning this one.

We have the higher power Google mesh router system in our house, and wanted to get something for my parents’ for Christmas. They live in a brick home that is half basement (similar to mine), and the Wi-Fi range was terrible.

At our house, we had upgraded to a rockin modem / router combo and got 1/10 of the distance promised because of the building materials. The Google Mesh system changed the game, in a time when both my husband and I are on Zoom calls all day and need reliable connection.

Back to this product – tried the lower price one for my retired parents (who are also on WiFi all day, just not video calls) and they LOVE it. This is perfect for their house, and makes it so we can also work there whenever we visit.

One thing to note – when we set up our system, my husband spent hours trying to figure out why it wouldn’t connect. Nothing online addressed his issue, customer support couldn’t figure it out. He ended up flipping a switch / turning off a feature on the modem that literally nobody had addressed, just to see what happened, and it finally worked.

For this system, we had none of those issues connecting it to their modem / router combo.

After years of pain and suffering dealing with systems that are not systems … at last … one that works. We have to cover a facility and two acres … and this does the trick seamlessly. We have at last count over 3 dozen Wi-Fi devices that need fast and seamless internet.

We plugged in three Google devices on a CAT6 wired LAN with absolutely no problem to cover a 5000 SF facility with lots of solid wood walls and steel material. We also installed three outside yard units without LAN wire and two wireless gap fillers inside the house.

All 8 hooked up and are working without issue. I may be the exception but not one time have I had to do trouble shooting. It was plug and play the whole way … and I was really skeptical. The guest capability is very nice for friends that visit and additional peace of mind for us.

The units are nearly invisible with no antennas and blinking lights … the wife really likes that we can hide them away. Yes – I’m happy with my system.

IMPRESSIVE ROUTER. There are routers on the market by Netgear, Linksys and others that offer similar functionality for much more money. This Tenda unit is super easy to set up, and works exactly as described.

It’s FAST! Besides, it also looks super cool in my server rack. Oh yeah, I’m happy. For once, I didn’t have to buy a more expensive unit from another manufacturer because the less expensive one truly lived up to what it claimed to be.

This is a very straightforward router. If you want 5 GHz wifi6 and that’s all you want, that’s exactly what this router provides. Nothing fancy, which also means you’re not paying extra for features you’ll never use.

I’m specifically using this to run an Oculus Quest 2 as a wireless headset via Virtual Desktop and it works great.

This is very easy to set up and use. I was after a router which would allow me to easily identify and block devices without rebooting it. This does that and more! It has options to restrict times and websites as well as options to use as a router or Wi-Fi extender/repeater.

It also allows you to set a DNS of your choice (useful to speed up your connection and/or improve security). It has lots of other features as well (including an option to turn the lights on/off if you find them an issue).

For this price it’s a great buy!.

Full disclosure. I purchased NETGEAR Orbi 753S from Costco not Amazon, because Costco offered 1 year of Free Technical Support not NETGEAR’s 90 Day standard Technical Support contract. After Unboxing and setting up, I already had my first call into Technical Support, as the product was not plug and play like advertised.

Many devices that use 2. 4G not 5G had issues trying to connect to system. Trying to get help from Tech. Support is impossible! After long wait times on hold (30 minutes to over 1 hour) you will hit a call center based in a foreign country, so language barriers exist and are quite prevalent.

The system seems to be very quirky, as it may work for multiple days and weeks flawlessly, but then for no reason, quite working altogether or have satellites drop in and out causing your wi-fi connected devices to stop functioning properly.

The system is set up with warning lights on the router and the satellites to warn you of issues with the system, but unfortunately ghost lights do occur according to Tech. Support, and they have no solutions to fix the issue.

Costco 1 year Technical Support is not worth the paper (Box) it is written on, because after the 90 days I have spoken with multiple technicians who want to charge you on a per call basis to fix the issue, which never really seems to get resolved.

Unless you are a programmer, or no something about programming, Technical support often leads you through going to a login, and completing multiple steps (writing code) which is supposed to fix the issues, but never does.

NETGEAR is interested in the initial sale of the Orbi, and then signing you up for a service contract after the free 90 days of support that can cost anywhere from $140 to $220. That may work for you, but when you have a product that is warranted for 1 year, try getting your product repaired or replaced for free when Technical support won’t even talk to you because you have not signed up for their service contract.

This is pure extortion on NETGEARS part because they know that they have a product that will need Technical help at some point, and if you are unwilling to pay for it, you basically have a paperweight not a router with Wi-Fi extenders.

DO NOT BUY! This issue seems to be prevelant on all NETGEAR Routers and Extenders!.

I bought this system to provide wifi for our small church. We have roughly 5000 sq. ft. of space, so I purchased the 2 satellite version, but one may have been enough. I was getting pretty good coverage before plugging in the second unit.

Setup is not complicated, but it is helpful to read the instructions to understand how the system is designed. The units all look the same. The router is identifiable only by the stickers on it. Each unit has its own set of LAN ports.

By default, it comes with profiles for each of the 4 SSIDs that indicate how each might be used: Administration, employee devices, Internet of Things (IOT), and guest. The guest setup assumes you will want to obtain and agreement for terms of use before proceeding.

The network shows as unsecured. The password you set it taken as part of the agreement process. There does not seem to be a way to change this behavior, but it may be that I missed it. The Virtual LAN (VLAN) profiles can be changed for each SSID, and that determines the level of access each client has and whether it can see other clients on the network.

Since I did not want to use the agreement process at this time and we don’t really need a separate employee network, I applied the guest profile to the employee SSID to create the standard wifi password connection I was looking for.

The routers interface is easy enough to use, but one should be aware that when configuring the wifi profiles changes must be applied before leaving the tab for that network, and the process of saving the changes seems to take much longer than it should, apparently due to the way that the router shares it’s configuration with the satellites.

The router does have features for virtual DNS and remote management if desired, as well as facility for creating a DMZ for Internet facing servers. We have not yet put any real stress on the network, but throughput seems to be good.

I may need to update this after we’ve had more time with it, but so far it seems like a solid system. I will be considering a Netgear product the next time I need a new router for my home.

We have subscribed to Gigabit internet service for a couple of years and since my home office is the furthest distance away from the wifi router, I would struggle with much slower speeds and internet stability/connectivity issues during video calls.

I started researching mesh wifi router systems which led me to the Orbi WiFi 6 system (RBK750 series). Initially, because we live in an older home with plaster walls and other physical obstacles (i. e.

the plumbing, tile and porcelain in bathrooms all likely add some interference), the wifi mesh did help my internet reliability, but it did not help my download speeds. After two cable company visits and more research, it became clear the solution was putting a wifi mesh satellite in my home office and then using an ethernet cable to connect my laptop directly to the satellite.

Even though the signal to the satellite is still coming over the mesh wifi wirelessly, the speeds coming directly out of the satellite via the ethernet cable are VASTLY improved! Before this solution, I was averaging 100Mbps to 150Mbps and a ping of 14 to 18 (using speedtest.

net) to now averaging 500Mbps to 600Mbps and a ping of 9 to 12!! The other satellite in our system with a more direct site line to the main wifi router is averaging 800 Mbps using this same connection setup!! Now that everything is set up, it is working flawlessly and I am very happy with the results!.

Great first impression. Easy setup, and not so much as a blip in nearly three weeks of constant use. Included quick start-up guide came off as a joke, but in actuality – it was all I need to get going, from router setup, all of the way through setting up the app on my Note 4.

Instructions were a little repetitive, with the quick guide, and the on-screen display – both telling me to disconnect my modem, but that was as bad as it got, with everything else going nice and smooth.

I really liked the included wall-mounting hardware, and the snap-on stand is really just added support for the Almond + to sit comfortably on your desk. Ugly Ethernet cables are effectively hidden behind the device, and there are a couple of nice apps (clock, weather; claim beta development, but worked just fine) that add to the incentive to have the Almond + out in the open.

Looks more like a home security monitoring device than a piece of network gear. Speaking of monitoring, you can purchase separate sensors (motion detection and plugin adapters to control device on/off) for $30-40.

The ease of setup, and solid functionality will probably have me buy a sensor or two, and give that aspect of Almond + a try. Only real negative here is the cost. It’s $250 at the time of this review.

I’m not really sure whom the Almond + is marketed for. The high cost, appealing packaging, and slick device looks seem targeted towards a higher-end consumer, but there’s nothing ground breaking from a feature set standpoint that justifies the cost to me.

There are plenty of reliable routing devices for a lot less money that will get the job done just fine, but they won’t look as nice on a desk, nor will they have that easy to use/configure touch screen.

Then there is the question of brand familiarity. I’ve never heard of Almond + until now, so I have no idea of brand reliability. On the other hand, every brand was new once, so it’s tough to hold that against Securfi.

I tend to judge devices on how they deliver, and pay little attention to past reliability claims. So far – the Almond + delivers on all counts. I’m the type of person that puts a premium on reliability when it comes to network devices.

I don’t care about looks, and a lot of the extra features they include with most routers (bandwidth prioritization, USB sharing, etc. ) hold little appeal to me. Just get me out to the internet, and provide some basic protection to my network while I’m out there.

With that being said, there are a number of routers out there for around $100 that will definitely get the job done for me The Almond + gives you those basics, plus good looks, a slick looking touch screen, the ability to monitor motion detection sensors (free, outside of the sensor cost), and mobile app integration.

If these extra features appeal to you, and you have the extra money to spend, then the Almond + might just be the router you’ve been looking for. Highly recommended – if you can stomach the expense FOLLOW UP REVIEW: More than a year later, touchscreen is now dead, and because I never linked it to a web admin account, there is no way to reset it, or access it.

Touchscreen worked momentarily as I tried to change the password, then put up gibberish key entries, and the only saving grace is that I took a picture of the screen with my phone. We now have a non-sensical password that’s over 30 characters long.

Recommendation rescinded. No thanks.

Network Setup : ISP is Comcast at 150 Mbps Equipment/computers connected to router : – Modem used is the Motorola Surfboard SB6183 – The router is located in my office on the 2nd floor and connected via LAN cables to a printer, laptop in a docking station and my gaming desktop as well as my server which hosts all family pictures and backups.

– The following equipment is connected via wireless from the router. o Two laptops, two remote desktops (located in the kids play room 30 feet away) and connected via WiFi o Three tablets, remote printer, four cell phones – all connected to router via WiFi.

o I also have a power network adapter that is connected to the router, this connects the downstairs 2 TV’s, ROCO streaming box and TIVO which is located in the master bedroom and TV room As you can see from above we in our household of four have a high internet data and streaming demand and can be very taxing on any router.

The kids watch Netflix a lot, play games on their desktops and surf on their tablets. My wife loves to stream music and we stream videos on demand in the evenings. Even with all these connected I was still able to obtain a stable and consistent WiFi connection.

What’s in the box : As you open the box the black router sits snuggly at the top, it measures a tad over 7 x 5 inches and it is less than 2 inches deep. It comes with a flat Ethernet cable, power adaptor, two brackets (wall and desk mounts) as well as some wall anchors if you wish to wall mount it.

Connect your router to the modem via Ethernet cable and also plug in the power adaptor to power up the router, then power up the modem, wait a couple a minutes for the modem to connect to your ISP and establish internet connection.

Follow the simple onscreen prompts and the router will guide you through the setup using the wizard. You have the option to use the device as a wired/WiFi router connected to your modem, as an access point connected to an existing router or as a range extender to broaden your existing wireless network’s range.

I set it up as a router connected to a Motorola SB6183 modem; setup was really easy and took less than five minutes. In addition to the 2. 4 and 5Ghz bands to set up your primary network, you can also setup two guest networks based on 2.

4 and 5 Ghz bands. On the top right of the router is a small stylus that will be very useful navigating through the onscreen menu, without it is rather hard to navigate using your finger. The Stylus slides into the side of the router body.

The device is much more than a router, it can form the hub of your home automation network managing lights and motoring motion sensors, it takes the word router to the next level for su.

I found the “three minute setup” claim to be exaggerated, but setup definitely was straightforward, and accomplished entirely on the device itself. It took me a few tries to realize that the device wouldn’t recognize my cable modem unless connected directly to it instead of through my UPS device.

A strange quirk, but I can live with it. It also took me some effort to get all my patch cables seated. Otherwise, smooth sailing. As a router, Almond+ is very good. Speeds are all within tolerances, though I did not get any “oh wow, that is faster!” surprises.

Range on the 2. 4ghz spectrum is a substantial improvement over my Netgear WNR3500. DLNA, VPN, and SMB functionality along with a pair of USB ports and good admin tools make this quite a feature-rich home router.

The device can easily function as a repeater, making it a compelling choice if you are seeking both a wireless repeater and a home automation hub. This bring us to the truly unique feature of this device, ZigBee and Z Wave.

For the unfamiliar, Zigbee and Z Wave are both low power wireless transmission standards used for household deices. There are two distinct but overlapping functionalities that Zigbee and Z Wave give you: automation and remote control.

Devices are paired with the hub (the Almond +), and then they may be controlled by the hub, or by other devices connected to the hub, such as a smartphone. This process is very straightforward. The first device I tried was a GE Wink lightbulb for an exterior light.

I wound up having to get the bulb down off of my garage and bring it near the Almond+ to get it to pair, but once paired, control via the Almond+ or the Almond Android application is seamless. The range once paired is very good.

I have positive control with a wall, 70’ of airspace, and steel shade between the bulb and the router. Automation is accomplished via the browser interface for the Almond+. The system is very elegant and will bring a smile to the face of anyone with software development experience: if/then conditionals.

You add a condition (e. g. “Time is between 5pm and 11pm”), set the operator (“THEN”), and then pick an action (“GarageLight ON”). There are also home and away modes that you can program using times or occupancy sensors, or activate manually via your phone, the Almond+, or an accessory keypad.

The programming is not without some degree of learning curve, but it is straightforward enough. Overall, I am pleased with this device. If you don’t mind the premium pricepoint and find home automation attractive, this is a fine choice, as long as you are not seeking the absolute bleeding edge in terms of speed or range.

You definitely do trade some functionality for elegance here, as the LAN ports are hidden away and the absence of external antennas limit the range as compared to other top-end routers. But elegance is a good thing, and combining useful home automation with a very decent wireless router is a very elegant package, indeed.

As a consumer router with a cat6 LTE modem it is an adequate product. Both my wife and I telework for major corporations and performs to task. Because we live on a farm outside of cable and fiber internet coverage I’ve had to teach myself the ins and outs of LTE modems.

This is the first integrated router/modem I’ve used. Previously used a cat3 AC341U modem connected to a Nighthawk AC1750 using a Cradlepoint CBA750B bridge router. The detail over information available to evaluate connection quality is disappointing.

I would expect a product with older technology (cat6 modems are several years old) that purports to be capable of carrier aggregation to at least have the ability to show me what bands it sees and which it is using.

More specifically I should be able to see detected signal strength and signal quality for each band detected. Ideally there should be an advanced function to allow for band locking. I’ll be the first to admit that I was spoiled with the detail level of the Cradlepoint bridge routers interface.

But that detail level greatly aided me on several occasions to diagnose issues with my carrier provider were their issue vs being an issue with my equipment/network. Event logging being one of those things I no longer have.

We live in a area with no internet, none! So I Purchased this router because it said it worked with ATT Sim cards. It does not! Twice went to the ATT store and they activated 2 different sim cards for me and neither worked to give us a hotspot.

Finally one ATT agent attempted to set up router manually and it came up requesting a TMobile login. The app for Nighthawk is terrible! You can’t do anything on the app until you have internet connection, well what about the people who have no internet and trying to set it up?!? Frustrating! No paperwork or manual in the box, had to go back to website and look up PDF for manual to find out that you needed LTE antennas.

Oh, which you have to order 3rd party, because Netgear doesn’t sell them. Overall this was a terrible experience! Equipment didn’t work, wasn’t provided with everything needed to use with LTE only. The to top it all off and weeks of trying to get this thing to work and it didn’t, I called to return it and they tried to tell me that I only had 14 days! They did finally let me return it, but only because I told them how it says compatible with ATT and it clearly isn’t.

Why don’t you make a simple router that works for hotspots for all us rural people who don’t have WiFi of fiber.

I am SO happy that I bought this router. I pay a ridiculous amount for 200mbps internet speeds but the router provided by Spectrum was so terrible, it could not give out more than 60mbps WiFi, even if you stood next to it the highest it would go is 60-65mbps, I was on the phone with spectrum customer service DAILY for months because of slow speeds and constant connection interruptions.

Finally I had enough and went online to find a router, the Nighthawk caught my eye immediately with its sleek and stunning design, it happened to be on sale for only $70 so I bought it, and let me just say.

this was the best $70 I ever spent, this router not only looks cool but it performs better than I ever imagined to be possible. It puts out 200-300 mbps WiFi without ever slowing down or skipping a beat, and the range is incredible, my spectrum router would give off 10-20 mbps unless you were in the same room it could get up to 65mbps MAX, the nighthawk? It puts out 200 in every room of my townhouse and beyond, it reaches as far as the parking lot and the speeds DO NOT REDUCE no matter if you’re next to it or 70 feet away.

Since I have plugged the router in none of my devices have lost internet connection, not even once. None of my devices have got stuck on a loading screen, not even once. I’ve never been happier with my internet, I’ve even tried to test the nighthawks limits and turned Netflix/Hulu on All 3 of my tvs, 3 iPads, and 3 iPhones and my laptop all at once, had videos streaming on a total of 10 devices simultaneously and it did not slow down the internet at all.

This router is simply amazing, and to think it’s the smallest one of the netgear nighthawk line. I can’t even imagine the capabilities of the other nighthawk routers. Anyway to sum it up, if you have problems with connectivity, or not getting your full internet WiFi speeds, the nighthawk AC1750 will absolutely solve your problems and then some.

Buy this router and you will never have to deal with the stress of losing connection or waiting on loading screens. This router is simply amazing.

At the time of this review we will have used this router for ~2 months. Before this purchase we went through 3 different wireless routers in under 2 years. The Netgear Nighthawk AC1750 fared the best before the radio signal quality began to dip (this started after about one year of use).

We tested other Netgears and an Asus router but they did not perform well in our house. Our house is a tri-level with a chimney running right through the middle of the floor plan, so we needed to find a router that could effectively penetrate the mortar between floors.

Our internet source enters the house from a non-ideal location so router position cannot be changed without additional costs. After 2 months of use I can say that the TP-Link Archer AC4000 is by the far the most consistent solution for us.

Main floor level range for 2. 4 and 5GHz bands is reliable, and the 2. 4 GHz band consistently reaches corners and diagonals better than all the other routers we’ve tried. It doesn’t reach every weird angle of the house but at this price point I don’t expect it to.

In the past we’ve needed to restart the Nighthawk for the odd connectivity issues but I have not yet needed to do that, either. I don’t have number data to include with this review, but I can safely say that wireless range and signal consistency is very good.

Phones do not randomly disconnect from this router like they did with the Nighthawk. Speed has not been an issue before but it’s still good here. After 2 months of heavy use by 10+ devices, mostly wireless, I can confidently recommend this router.

Setup is easy as it was with Netgear and Asus models. The build quality is solid and the AC4000 performs as well as we need it to.

I realized that my older Linksys WNDR4000 dual-band WiFi router just wasn’t up to the task anymore. Spectrum recently increased internet download speeds to 200 Mbps in our area and I was lucky to be getting 70Mbps over WiFi.

I could only get 200 Mbps when connected to the router via Ethernet. Plus, signal coverage was somewhat spotty – noticed primarily with my Chromecast device which while behind the TV, still was nearly within line of sight of the WiFi router.

Since replacing it with the TP-Link Archer AC4000, I’m now getting a much better WiFi signal throughout the house and am able to get 200Mbps download speeds via WiFi. Router setup was also incredibly easy and I like the SmartConnect mode where all 3 WiFi bands are under the same SSID and it automatically chooses the best band for the device that’s connecting.

Haven’t had any issues with any devices not being able to connect. The phone app and web Interfaces are easy to use and straightforward. The info it provides on the MAC addresses for connected devices was useful in tracking down and figuring out what a couple of “phantom” devices were on my network.

Would highly recommend this router if you are having issues with WiFi speeds and signal strength, especially if you can get it on sale like I did.

Bought to replace an identical year-old router. Old router became unstable, and warranty process takes weeks, so this one was intended for immediate replacement. Unfortunately, after 2 days of trying, we never got the new one to work.

It seems like either a MAC Binding issue, but could be a defective new router. Oddly, after a dozen-plus reboots, the old router fixed itself. So now the new router sits unused, as we are reluctant to mess with the old one while it’s working.

TP-Link customer support has been acceptable – but not great – throughout this ordeal. That said, when they work, and if bought on sale, the AC4000 router can be a great value.

Great performing dual band router. I bought the Wise Tiger router to replace a much higher priced name brand router that I never could get to work correctly. The Wise Tiger even runs faster on the 2.

4 Ghz band than any previous router I had. The only negative I could see about this router is that it only had ventilation on the bottom of the unit. I raised the unit about an inch so it could get better ventilation.

After several weeks this router has worked better than I could have inmagined. I would buy this again in a heartbeat !.

The wireless router 1200mbps is doing an excellent job for me, and it was reasonably priced. I am using it to lengthen my reach between my iPad and my digital SOUNDCRAFT Ui 16 mix. I was amazed when I tested the range before it finally disconnected.

I walked approximately 800 down the street and my operation was setup inside the building with all doors closed.

This router solved all my distance issues. VERY high quality for a iminmal price. I even bought a spare since the price is awesome!!

The first bad sign was when it took multiple attempts to get it to connect during setup. Once I got it set up and running, everything seemed great, and it was generally showing between ~1-1. 2Gbps, though it frequently dropped to a few hundred for some unknown reason and required me to disconnect and reconnect to go back up to 1Gb+ again.

The main reason I got it was so I could connect a 5-bay USB HDD enclosure and access the drives over the network, and it worked seamlessly, and so I thought all was good. Immediately, though, I started having issues with disconnects while transferring or reading data to/from the drives.

Because of this, it took me over a week to do what should have taken a couple days, because I had to keep restarting things after they would run for hours only to fail due to a disconnect. Twice when it happened I was lucky enough to see it happen, which allowed me to go check on the router and see that it was booting up, meaning it was randomly restarting on a regular basis.

Unfortunately, this joke of a router has basically no troubleshooting capabilities built in, not even having such a basic feature as uptime to be able to see how long it’s been running and, therefore, how long ago it reset itself.

Even enabling the logs proved fruitless, since there were about six or eight lines after running for a while and rebooting again, so I can only assume it clears the logs on reboot, which obviously makes them useless.

Another issue was that it would randomly not be accessible via IP to access the Velop interface even though I could ping it and had connection to the internet and my drives, and trying a different browser didn’t help, either.

I would have been willing to chalk the issues up to a defective product and try again, but I’m sorry, I’m not going to bother with a “router” that doesn’t even have the most basic of diagnostic tools.

This thing is a pathetic joke and is just destroying Linksys’ name, though I shouldn’t be surprised since it’s now owned by Belkin. Don’t waste your time on this toy.

Years ago we had at least one other Linksys networking device – likely one of our first routers. It performed well enough that I certainly did not rule out another Linksys device when our Apple Time Capsule stopped working.

Within the past year I heard many newer routers were much easier to set up than in the past. Although I would not say this was completely “plug-n-play”, it was easier than I remember – and worked well with both Apple and non-Apple devices.

We have Amazon Echo, Google HomeMini, and even an Apple Home device. All rather seamlessly connected to the router. I liked Apple’s AirPort Utility app, so I was pleased to see Linksys had a similarly visual interface to see which devices were connected to which band (2.

4 GHz or 5. 0 GHz) of the Wi-Fi router. You can select icons to mirror the appearance of your actual devices (i. e. smartphone, TV, Echo), but not every device had a matching icon. I was surprised to see over 30 devices were connected to the router.

Some devices were not easy to identify with the identifying information in the Linksys app. This was definitely not a deal-breaker, but a little frustrating. Our internet went down for a couple of days after installing the AC1900 – not because of the Linksys device, but an ISP issue.

As with any router (and modem), we simply unplugged the network devices and plugged them back in, and we were up and running after the cable company resolved their issues. About a week after buying this router, it went on sale at Best Buy.

Within their price match parameters, Best Buy quickly matched their own price. But even at about $160, this device was worth the price, as it kept me from having to invest hundreds more for a mesh system – we live in a 1,000+ sq ft condominium.

Even the associate at Best Buy felt that would have been overkill.

IšverstiShow in original languageWe purchased the 2 pack Nest Wifi Mesh router as a replacement for our older Apple AirPort Extreme. We could never get it to function properly, eventually returning it to the store.

I’m digitally native, fairly technically competent and work in a technical field (engineer). These routers could not consistently maintain an internet signal. We have Xfinity internet. I imagine this is a very common setup in many homes using Nest routers.

We tried the router with two customer owned modems, an older Arris DOCSIS 3. 0 unit that has worked perfectly with the AirPort for about 6 years (can’t remember the last time it even needed a restart) and a brand new Arris DOCSIS 3.

1 modem. We contacted Xfinity each time before switching to be sure they were activated in their system and receiving an internet signal. The router had the same issue of not being able to obtain/maintain an internet connection with both modems.

I had to call technical support 3 separate times over the short time we had this unit. In the end, they blamed Xfinity, who in turn blamed Arris. But given that we had the same router issue with two separate Arris modems, and that each time when we reconnected our old AirPort, everything worked fine again, the variable here clearly is the Google Nest router.

The Google Home app, which controls the device, is cumbersome. It’s designed for ease of use, but this also means it’s a “black box” with minimal user control should adjustments be needed. I’m still not sure if the issue we had was hardware or software related, but in the end it doesn’t really matter as Very glad I was able to get a refund and try a router from another manufacturer.

If you do plan to purchase one of these, in addition to price shopping, be sure to pay attention to the return window the retailer you’re purchasing it from allows. We found national retailers vary from 15 days to 90 days.

If a defect doesn’t immediately present itself, in my experience, Google’s warranty isn’t where you want to be stuck, so those extra days may end up being valuable.

IšverstiShow in original languageHomes differ. I don’t want to suggest that competing products are intrinsically inferior to this product, but I did try out 4 different makes of mesh systems in my home and found the Google Nest AC 2200 three pack somewhat better than the competition in my home.

The mesh systems I tried were the Netgear Orbi AC 3000 two pack, the Amazon eero 6 four pack, the TP Link Deco S 4 four pack and the Google Nest. All systems were comparable in price, around $ 250, during the Cyber Monday sale window, except for the TP Link system which cost about $ 180.

I would consider these systems mid range mesh systems, not entry level ones. My yardstick was that the mesh had to deliver better speed and signal strength that my existing router and extender combination and had to be stable and consistent in speed.

What I found is that none of the four named systems, all of which claimed 5000 to 6000 square ft of coverage, actually covered my 3000 square ft L shaped home with uniform speeds across the home. I got about 160-200 MBps in one half of my home and only 50-70 MBps in the far end of the other half of the house with these mesh networks.

My subscription is 350 MBps and I get 120-160 MBps in one half and 30-50 MBps in the other half with just my router and extender. The three unit Google Nest based on the older AC 2200 standard gave me better speeds than even the four unit eero 6 mesh which is based on the newer Wi-Fi 6 standard, though the difference was not big: about 15 % better.

Speed apart, the clincher for me was that the two Google extenders in the Nest pack came with built in speakers which could be used as network connected speakers to play streaming audio. Overall, the Google Nest was better in my layout but I wish I could get a true 5000 sq ft mesh with equal speeds across my whole home.

IšverstiShow in original languageI bought this to upgrade my main node as I already had the 2017 version of the 1st gen pucks that worked fairly well. I appreciate that it’s backwards compatible with the older gen and able to use them as mesh nodes without any hassle.

My new home has several walls in between the main node and the locations that it makes to most sense to place the mesh points, so the upgraded antenna on this unit has given my older mesh points a boost.

I’m now getting close to double the speed at the ends of my house. It’s supposedly rated for 2200 sqft which would cover my whole house on its own, but I haven’t tested it out. When replacing the main node I did have to set up everything from scratch and reset the mesh points since there’s no way to transfer an existing network to the new unit.

Other than that, setup is a breeze guided by the Google Home app. My main complaints are the new plug shape and removal of USB C that the previous gen had, the lack of VLAN tagging, limited upload speeds on PPPoE mode, and limited download speeds in general (I get max ~600 Mbps from my 1 Gbps fiber, the ISP provided router got around ~850 Mbps).

If the nest WiFi points had wired backhaul and PoE to use as WAPs I might have considered purchasing them as well. If you want advanced networking features and settings this is not the system for you.

I previously had the standard router and modem from my ISP which were okay. Our household uses the internet for streaming, gaming, and sharing. Typically we will have anywhere from 7-10 devices connected.

With our previous router we were only seeing upload speeds around 20mb and download around 1mb. After updating the modem my ISPs newer model we saw a slight increase (~5%), but we were still experiencing buffering on most screens when we were all online.

I purchased the nighthawk and saw our speeds sore. We’re getting between 180 and 200mb download and 6 and 10mb upload. Every device in the house can stream now. The added benefit of the app gives you complete control over your network and allows you to see every device that has access to your home.

Dual band allows us to take advantage of the 5mhz band for all our devices that stream hd and 4k while the other band will feed our music streaming while outside. I have nothing but good things to say about this router, it was a bit spends my, but we are going on year 3 with it and it is still lighting quick and quiet as ever.

Definitely an improvement over our old routers, but they were really old (we’re talking wrt54G v4 for one of them). Old routers were dropping our phones and ipad all the time, killing our data usage on our phone plan.

New router is noticeably faster. Devices include 2 phones, ipad, roku, 2 laptops, and 2 hard-wired computers. Haven’t really had any issues so far. Set up was easy. I’m not using any really advanced features.

It is working with a VPN that I use, so that is good. I reassigned the router’s IP address when I set it up and I wasn’t sure it was going to like it at first, but it finally accepted it. The indicator lights are pretty bright.

I put some tape over them to dim them. We have a small 2 story house. The router sits in the middle of the second floor, mounted on the side of a bookshelf. (No issues with the mounting holes) Connectivity has been fine so far throughout the house.
