20 Best Wifi Extenders For Fios (2023 Updated)

This is a very handy unit that looks great and works well. I paired the extender with a Nighthawk AX12 for full coverage of my large two-story home. The Nighthawk is downstairs at one end of the house and the extender is upstairs at the other end.

I’m using it as a range extender and not a hot spot. I have been using Netgear routers and switches for years now and the software just keeps getting better. Configuration is intuitive and as simple or complex as you like.

I used the Smart Connect feature which really simplified things but requires a little more thought if you need to directly access the extender during troubleshooting; use the provided link in the downloadable instructions and you’re home free.

The coverage is excellent and now all devices, phones, tablets, and computers have a strong signal. REALLY strong and blazing fast at 5G. The only minor issue I encountered was also mentioned in other reviews.

Even though I immediately updated the firmware during installation, for about the first two weeks it went through a period of stabilizing where it would momentarily lose connection with the Nighthawk for a few seconds each day.

It never dropped any devices and we wouldn’t have noticed had I not been nearby and noticed the uplink light turn red. However, as reported by other users, this cleared up after about two weeks and it’s been rock solid ever since.

Perhaps it was building routing tables or something like that. Finally, I’ve never had a single Netgear device fail so expect it to last until the technology is obsolete. Highly recommended!.

I have a Netgear CAX80 Cable Modem and wanted to extend my WiFi range with this device. I setup the modem first and had quite some struggles. Had to run the setup several times with the app on a Android device before it worked.

Then I added this device to the network. The first thing I realized is, that only one WiFi’s range can be extended. I have a private WiFi and a quest WiFi. I can only extend the one or the other. Also the handshake between those doesn’t work at all.

When I walk through the home while having a video call or such, the connection breaks down when the phone connects to the respective other device. For that price absolute crap! I somehow made it to the web interface of that device and found that there’re way more options like a VPN service and more that are simply not available on the app.

So the customer is shielded from taking full advantage of the products capabilities. Now I switched to Apple and wanted to setup the Nighthawk app on there. Now, however, to add the device, I have to login to the router locally with a admin password that I never set up because in the app you simply use the Netgear account to authenticate.

There’s a lot to improve though.

I connected to my Xfinity wifi without issue then a few weeks later started getting issues on the xfinity internet feed. The Xfinity tech came and ran tests and said that I can’t run the Lynksys 6500 extender as they are old technology and not compatible with the wifi6 tech that Xfinity uses.

Disconnected the linksys and my internet works again. if I turn on again I start to get connection issues after a couple of hours. I was told by xfinity I should get a mesh unit. Not an extender for wifi6.

Lynksys needs to put that info in their specs. Now I own a boat anchor.

I have used one of these for a few years now, and it always works. It is very easy to see if the original signal is strong enough because you will see a white steady light. If it turns to orange steady, it means you are a little too far from the main router, and you have to shorten the distance.

I have not used the phone app that helps with this because it is so easy just to get the white light and know it’s good. Speed is very fast, and having 4 gigabit ethernet ports in the garage without having to have dug a trench for wires makes this thing well worth it.

Linksys/Belkin is the way to go for all networking gear now. Linksys is the best (stay away from netgear stuff with all their online registration and constant automatic updates), and this device is superb.

I am online now buying another one for a friend and have set up several of these for people I know, and they are all still working.

Perhaps it isn’t the extenders fault but I bought this extender specifically for my Roku TV and it just does not work. Everything else seems to connect fine enough, but if you’re looking to connect a Roku to this, I would recommend checking out something else.

Also, very sketchy customer service. They ask for way too much information for no real reason other than “it will help future support calls go more smoothly”. Meanwhile, next time I called support they stated they had none of my information saved.

Incredibly suspect.

At first, I was really frustrated with my new AT&T Fiber connection. It would disconnect several times a day which knocked off all my VPN secure connections while trying to work from home. I called AT&T several times, had technicians out to my house at least three times, trying to find the root cause of the disconnections.

I finally read an article that said modern WiFi 6 routers will automatically attempt to reconnect with devices that have a weak signal. I thought that this might be what was knocking out my connections.

So, I did some research on Best Buy and decided on this unit as the best features at this very reasonable price point. I installed the extender about halfway between my work laptop and the fiber gateway.

No more disconnects! So the technical problem that several support people and field techs were unable to solve was simply a weak signal. I was so happy with my first extender that I bought another one just like it to help with the signal for my PS5.

I can now stream cloud-based games at full resolution! These extender units rock! I’m really happy to have made the investment to increase the reliability and speed of my network! Everything really is, now, blazing fast and rock solid.

I live in studio on a large property that’s separate from the main house which has the wifi modem/router. There’s approximately 20-30 feet between the main home and my studio. My landlord allowed me to use the wifi instead of paying for separate internet but the signal was so weak.

I was just a installation appointment away from getting my own Internet service but then decided to try this wifi extender. IT WORKS PERFECTLY. My signal is amazing and I’m able to play my PS4 online and use my phone and iPad all at the same time with no lag.

Before I’d only be able to get a strong signal on my patio. It was super easy to set up and I didn’t have to disturb my landlord at all. Now instead or paying for monthly internet service until who knows when, I paid one time for the extender and all my wifi problems are solved! 10 out of 10 would recommend!.

It seemed our Internet reception in our living room was becoming worse and worse, to the point that a streamed movie would play a few seconds, buffer, play, buffer. So I did a search to learn about range extenders and found TP-Link were always listed as one of the top brands.

Of the models reviewed, the RE505X was the one my local Best Buy had in stock, so I headed off to get one. I followed the quick setup guide, connected with the app I downloaded to my phone and the extender found my WiFi just fine.

First thing I did was sit down and watch a streamed movie, not one hiccup or buffer thru out several hours of viewing. I did notice, however, the next night I was getting some buffering, so I moved the Chromecast from the 5G WiFi to the 2.

This was not an easy installation. The instructions and online manuals simply were not accurate. What was supposed to happen as I completed steps in the installation did not happen, so the choices the instructions provided were irrelevant.

I called LinkSys help operators to get instruction. My first four calls ended when I was cut-off – sometimes when I had been told I was going to be transferred to another person, sometimes simply in the middle of conversation.

Each call, including the fifth, I was asked to go through the entire installation process from scratch even though it resulted in the same exact failure every time. It was often right after this failure when I would be cut-off.

The fifth operator stuck with me and eventually – after installing updated firmware that the installation program indicated was not needed (or even available) – the unit did finally work. In the end, I spent over 3 hours on the phone to LinkSys to get this installed.

By that time I was angry and frustrated. But it does work now. I have been using my extender to reach WiFi devices at the far end of my home and it has been stable since installation almost a month ago.

So I am gradually forgetting the nightmare of installation and am basking, instead, in my ultimate success. I have not had to think about it since installation. Once WiFi devices are connected to the repeater network, it simply works completely transparent to me.

No glitches. Even after a power failure to my house, it came back up without any effort on my part – everything functioning as before the power outage. I have noticed no network slowing. Devices I am using through the extender include a large screen smart TV, a laptop used primarily for streaming video and an outside security camera.

I have no idea how competing devices might install or perform relative to this one. I can conclude that this device was a monster to install, but seems to work well once that hurdle was overcome.

What a stupid waste of time this purchase was. I bought this for the other side of the house where the Wi-fi doesn’t reach. So we had one goal in mind: extend the Wi-fi. Tried setting up via a LAN cable from our main router.

I got a signal indicating we had connected but the extender could never connect us to actual websites. Tried to reset to factory settings and use it as a standard extender. The extender doesn’t reset period.

I’ve tried tapping the reset button, holding it briefly, holding it until the green light comes back. Nothing. Useless. Returning ASAP.

Needed an extension into the warehouse kitchen and it was the cheapest and had good reviews so I purchased it. The first 2 locations in the kitchen were a bit touch and go so I moved it 2 metres into the bathroom area and no problemo.

The instructions suggest halfway between the router and the dead zone well, I put it almost on the dead zone and it still picked up the router with full bar capacity through at least 3 walls. I would have wasted my money on a pricier model.

Switched to 500mb down/up ATT fiber from Xfinity 300 mbs down/10-20 mbs up non-fiber. The only place they could install the modem/router was the top floor vs. the middle floor where we had our modem/router previously.

Because of this, we were only getting 10mbs and really bad ping in the basement where my office and the main TV is. Because of the security handshake between ATT’s router and their modem, you cannot use your own equipment without going through a bunch of shenanigans, so a mesh network was out of the picture.

Additionally, ATT charges a monthly fee to rent their extenders which also isnt a great solution. Did some research online and this unit was pretty well recommended so I gave it a shot. Quick and easy install/connection to our WiFi network.

Handles the 2ghz and 5ghz equally well and we get 90-120mbs down/up in the basement which is more than enough and better than the 50-60 down and 10 up we were getting in the basement with our prior ISP.

A month into having it and couldn’t be happier. Hasn’t dropped connection a single time. Our smart tv in the basement holds signal perfectly compared to in and out with our prior ISP.

I have two of these as well as WiFi6 router from TP-Link. The main reason I bought these units was to provide wired connections for devices that couldn’t work with the router wirelessly. And it works great! I have also tried the One-Mesh feature, but it didn’t work well for me.

Maybe my house just not big enough, but quite often my smartphone would experience problems working over WiFi as I move around the house. Laptops that that don’t move and connected to one of these devices never had issues.

But in the end I disabled One-Mesh and turned off rebroadcasting of wireless networks as I can connect to the router from any place anyway. The setup was very easy. The only thing is that it is suggested to do initial setup in the same room as router, and then you can take it to the intended location.

I really like this product. It has a lot more features than I use, but it completely solves the problems I had.

This Wi-Fi extender was very easy and simple to set up. It took us 10-15 minutes to completely set it up, not long at all. We had issues with internet at this house the first year we lived here, up until last year when we finally changed internet providers.

Even then we’ve had a bit of a lag in an area upstairs that happens to be where my husband and son play video games. This is also where our home computer is located and where my son spends his time doing schoolwork.

The extender seems to have helped quite a bit in that area, but my son says he still experiences moments of slowness from time to time while gaming. While, my husband, says he has not experienced any issues while gaming, and in fact, has noticed an improvement.

Also, make sure you plug it in where you won’t need the other plug because the extender covers the entire outlet, which I was not a fan of. Overall, we do notice the difference and things seem to be running more smoothly in those trouble spots in our home.
