20 Best Whole House Filter For Well Water (2023 Updated)

My family, but especially me, have a serious issue with chlorine in our drinking water. We bought this unit and it’s TRUE to its claim. We get severe headaches from chlorine and the water here in Talbott contains a lot of it.

So much that you can smell it as soon as you turn on the tap. After the professionals plumber installed the unit and flushed the system the chlorine was GONE! We drink right out of the tap and shower and there is NO chlorine.

The water even tastes great! And what else is great is, other than maintaining the small sediment filter attached monthly, the AO Smith filter does NOT need any maintenance for 6 years. We hope it lives up to the 6 years.

IF it does then we will be buying another unit from AO Smith. Thank you A. O. Smith for making such a fine filtration system.

Worked great for a year. At the one year mark, carbon started to blow out of it and started clogging my post filter every three days. Supposed to last 60 months according to their advertisements, only lasted 12.

For $300 and only lasting a year, I would rather buy the two packs of carbon filter cartridges and change them every two months when I change my pre and post filters. And yes, when installed it was flushed exactly as the instruction manual stated it needs to be.

Tried calling AO Smith and emailing their customer support, got no answer at all, so I decided to write this review to bring it to the attention of others.

I bought and installed this a couple months and it worked amazing. We have city water so it wasn’t too bad but we had terrible tasting and smelling water. It was so bad that our skin was overly dry. I wanted to wait to write a review to see how it would be down the road and I couldn’t be happier.

All the water throughout the house tastes like bottled water. Our clothes even feel cleaner and softer and there is no loss in water pressure even with 2 people showering at the same time.

I have a well water system and the water quality was not that great. After getting it tested I purchased this filter system to improve the water and what a difference it has made. They offer many types of filters so make sure to test your water to ensure you are purchasing the correct ones for your system.

Our water was not very hard but the taste was awful due the sulphur content. During install I did over-tighten the filters which caused the gaskets to break. After contacting ISpring support Brian was able to assist me very promptly and send me new gaskets for the filters.

Their customer support is awesome.

My wife and I recently moved into our first home and immediately could tell we had very hard water. If the hot water ran long enough we could even smell the chlorine. We installed this and immediately noticed a difference.

Forehead is no longer flakey after a shower, hair feels softer and no more bad smell from hot water. Big time shoutout to Brian who followed up with me after the purchase to make sure I was properly registered for the warranty coverage!.

We installed this filter on coming water line prior to water heater and water softener. I will do a water test again to see how improvement water quality. The system work perfectly and I already installed a second set of filter in another house.

There is small leak at three cut out ball valves’ handles. Tighten down the stems that fixed the leak but one is not. It possibly need to repack it. I will contact technical group for advise.

I had this AP902 whole house filter installed when we were plumbing my house. It works great. I have since replaced the filter with AP910R cartridge several times. The change takes about 15 minutes and is very easy if you have the filter plumbed as Aqua-Pure suggests.

A great filter, and lasts for over a year depending on the size of your family. Price spread over a year is less than $8. 50 per month.

The GE Smart Whole House Water Filtration System, is beauty and function. The setup is easy and straight forward with quick connect fittings for PEX and copper. For galvanized, you may want to contact a plumber.

It has a rotating pivot head that allows for flexibility in install with vertical or horizontal configurations. It filters the main water supply at the point of entry. It is recommended to replace the filter about every 3 months or 20 thousand gallons.

It filters down to 5 micron and reduces sediment and chlorine taste and smell. There are other filters that can remove lead etc allowing you to adjust the system to your needs. Now for the smart stuff! It has an APP and is WIFI enabled.

It has alerts for a running faucet (great for when we forget to turn off the faucet our cat has been using), plumbing leaks, potential freezes and filter change alerts which is amazing!.

Installed this filter and immediately noticed that the 30 micron filter was capturing red sediment in my water. Gross! Installation wasn’t hard, it essentially mounts to the wall and comes with 1” to 3/4” PEX fittings to drop down to the 3/4” diameter piping required by the unit.

I’m coming from PVC, so I did have to get a few extra PVC to PEX fittings, but no big deal. I’m not sure how much I’ll use the connected features, but the ability to monitor water usage is really cool, I probably will appreciate that! Very much looking forward to trying out the other “intermediate” and “advanced” filter cartridges as well to see what kind of nasty junk I can filter out (we are on a well).

Got this for my sister-in-law. She lives in a mobile home. The mobile home park is a good park and well maintained. But they provide well water and they treat the water themselves. Hence we notice that the water can taste and look different from week to week.

The system was pretty easy to setup, but I did have to go to the hardware store to find different adapters to get the water lines to fit. (This was more of a me issue I think). It has only been a few weeks in use and so far so good.

I am excited to see how it does for an extended period of time.

We have a well and a lot of sediment that ends up in our pipes. I put this filter in the garage and hooked up a spin-down/sediment filter in-line before this filter to catch the larger stuff first (currently using a 100 micron filter).

The results are amazing! Normally, filling up the bath tub would show the orange tint of the water, and would leave a brownish ring around the tub after it is drained. now, the water is crystal clear! I haven’t noticed any reduction in water pressure at all either.

so far, I’m 100% happy with this filter! My wife is hopeful that her hair color treatments will last a little longer too – time will tell.

This is the best whole house filter I have used. It gets most of the orange rust color out and makes the taste much better. However, my well water is so bad I have another smaller filter in front of this to catch most of the rust sediment first.

I can go six months on this filter. It does not drop water pressure much either. I would give it a 5 star if it took all the orange rust out. Keep in mind, I have pretty bad water.

I am a licensed plumber in NJ and put this filter in my own home (city water) and liked it so much I have sold three other units, one being my friend who also has city water and due to construction on the water mains near his home kept getting sediment.

The filter worked instantly. Also another good perk to this filter is that it also takes care of scale, all three homes I installed it on have tankless water heaters or combi systems this helps with the annual maintenance on these systems in which the scale can damage the systems.

The only thing I would recommend is check the amount of GPM you use if you have a larger home and you have this on your irrigation or out side hose bibs it will cut your flow down drastically inside of your home.

I’ve gone through 4 of these over 20 years. The tend to eventually start leaking and get to the point where no amount of adjusting the screws, etc. , will make it stop leaking. So when that happens, I replace it, and the easiest thing to do is replace it with the same one.

Had one previously and it started leaking from the cap. Must have been screwing on the bottom to tight and cracked it. Replaced it with same. No problem now. Always used 2 filters, but it is nice to know you can order just 1 larger filter.

I’ve had this system installed since June and it does everything it was advertised to do! I had about. 79ppm iron, among other things, and it’s all gone now. Before I bought this system, I was using those 4.

5″x20″ cartridge iron filters but they exhausted within a month due to my iron range. At 80-100 dollars a piece, I decided it would be more cost effective in the long run to go with a system like this, and based on its performance, that will certainly be true.

I do still use a 4. 5″x20″ cartridge filter for sediment before the springwell system to protect it and the tank head from the bigger sediment from my well. I also recently installed the springwell chemical injection system before this filter to handle iron bacteria I had in my well.

I have a new construction house and I didn’t want any of that setting itself up in my plumbing so I turned to Springwell after having such a good experience with this filter. Similarly, I am very happy with the chemical injection system.

It comes with very high quality components and the price is competitive. I priced out the pieces individually myself and couldn’t really beat springwell’s price. On top of all of this, their sales people and techs are very quick to respond to questions and concerns.

Springwell came highly recommended by a friend, so I contacted them. I ended up purchasing the largest system for our house which included the 1M gallon water filtration plus the salt based water softener.

The system was around $2500 and arrived to my new house within days of purchasing. The instructions were clear that I need to soak the filter for 48 hours to activate the carbon, then rinse. So I did that and called a buddy for installation (used to work for Rainsoft).

He installed the system and tested the water. Said the softener was doing what it was supposed to do, and he did a chlorine and contaminate test, and was satisfied. After he left, I read through the book and saw where it said to regenerate the system, so I went to manually start the cycle and water sprayed from everywhere on the softener head.

I couldn’t figure out where the water was coming from! I called Springwell and described the issue. They next day aired a part, which was easy enough for me to replace, but once again, water sprayed.

I was transferred to the Vice President. Having dealt with SO MANY companies in my life that tried to wiggle and get out of providing customer service, I was immediately defensive. All that changed when I talked to Chris.

He told me they would do whatever it took to correct the situation. He overnighted me the whole electronic head under warranty, and offered to pay for whatever water damage had taken place at the outlet when water sprayed into it tripping the GFCI (I initially thought it burned the outlet, which I found out wasn’t the case).

He told me he would pay parts and labor on everything and that his only concern was making our system work the way it was supposed to. When the head arrived, I installed it myself with a wrench and a screwdriver; very straight forward.

It works like a charm now and has for 3 weeks. Overall, I am very satisfied with this company; they have earned my business and my praise.

Our lifesource water system was ~11 years old and the family had been noticing a taste to our water for a while, I had done tons research and comparisons and frankly the springwell CF+ was cheaper and I could replace the carbon myself in 10 years where with lifesource it would again be another system in 10+ years.

Springwell was ~$1600 lifesource ~$3500. No brainer. About 10 days later my CF+ system arrived from Florida (I am in California), I will say the directions for me were pretty straight forward and I figured I would install using PVC, got the adapters and fittings and installed the unit after 3 days of soaking, the water tasted like the PVC adhesive, not happy.

So next morning (kicking myself because I should have used copper anyway) went and got copper fittings and adapters. The setup was already laid out since I had installed prior with PVC so installation went fairly well, as well as someone who doesn’t normally work with sweating copper but has done it before can go.

Unit installed turned the taps on in the house and let it run for a few minutes and water tasted fantastic. We are on city water so its decent in the first place it just has lots of chlorine in it and we don’t like that taste.

We are VERY HAPPY with the SpringWell CF+ purchase and will recommend this to our neighbors, only thing I would suggest is to install with copper or PEX from the start its just worth it. Installation tips for the CF+: Use Copper 1-1/2″ copper fittings use allot of Blue Monster ptfe teflon (really good stuff) tape to prevent leaking from the head units.

(I think I wrapped each fitting around 20 wraps) Install 2 or 3 copper unions, this makes tightening a fitting or working on the system so much easier when you can just un-connect the unit via these unions, not cheap, but very worth it! Be careful when using copper mpt fitting into head unit or filter, copper if over-tightened / over-inserted can and will break plastic.

Our water had a iron smell and was on the rusty side leaving stains on our toilets and sinks. After we installed the Culligan Sediment Filter it was a major improvement. We truly enjoy out well water now and being very inexpensive it saved us on having to install a water softener.

I bought this to use with my camper. There is a camp ground I go to that gets a brown tinge in the water, they say it’s safe but I don’t want sediment in my water lines or hot water heater, and I always use bottled water for drinking and cooking.

This did a little better job than the smaller filters designed for RV use, but it is a bit large taking up storage space. You also have to come up with a way to keep it upright which I have done. No issues with leaks from the fittings myself.

Works as it should, will not be as brittle like the clear one. A must have for outside use.

This filter is well made and of high quality material construction. It works well in a high flow whole house installation such as I have. The sump is clear allowing easy observation of the condition of the filter element.

The metal bracket is very rugged and supports the housing without bending. I have two issues to mention. 1. The timer for filter replacement has a magnet on the back which is too weak to allow it to stay put on a vertical metal surface.

It slides right off. Plan on locating it on the horizontal pat of the bracket or another convenient location close by the filter. 2. The o-ring that seals the sump to the manifold has swelled so it no longer fits in its recess prior to reassembly after element replacement and this is only 15 months after initial installation.

Bought this model because it has a clear housing and it was available locally. I used four wraps of teflon tape on the 1” adaptor instead of the 2 1/2 that was writen in the Installation Guide, No Leaks ! This has been installed for three days (8/18/22) so I cant speak for longevity.

I could live without the battery operated timer, it’s not hard to write down the date plus thats why I went with a clear housing.

I am using 2 of these. I bought one at lowes and I think they were about 40 dollars. I needed better filtration so I put a second inline filter to give me better filtration to filter the sand and other things out of the water.

The first filter is a wound filter and the second is a carbon or charcoal filter. I don’t know for sure but it has black particles in it. It was about the cheapest thing that would hold standard filters.

Only four stars due to shipping, need to improve packaging, chrome covers for filters are dented in several places and come crooked on bases which you can somewhat level if you take them off and replace them on tanks.

I have yet to completely install units so not able to see results yet. Overall appearance not impressive but ok and hopefully it will make improvements to my water. The system comes very basic and you will need extensive parts to complete job, so keep in mind of location in regards to incoming water line.

Great product. It would have been nice if the company comes up with easy to assemble kits. Also the tanks by designed cannot be kept in same line. They need to come up with a byepass valve assembly that should facilitate the linear arrangment of the tanks.

This is just a minor feedback.

I installed the system myself (DIY non-contractor, moderate difficulty) which helped me to see the quality of the components esp. the connections. Within a short period of time, our city water began to look, smell and taste much better.

Dishes and fixtures are cleaner. The amount of new scale buildup has already diminished. Never expected to see so much improvement so soon.

Added this to our system to help remove some of the chlorine taste and odor Well packaged, Instructions were great except they might want to mention wear a dust mask when adding the carbon granules to the tank.

I also needed to run the regen a couple of times to get the best performance. Since then it has been great.

I wasn’t sure about this at first but it definitely holds up its description. Super easy to use. You set it up and it’s good to go. It’s used everyday and functions well. Yes I would recommend this product.

Originally bought the 3/4″ input/output port version, had to return for this 1″ input/output port version so our water pressure wouldn’t be affected. We live in the country and have a well. We use this whole house filter and a soft water conditioner and that’s all we need.

Perfect water. The built-in bypass valve makes filter changes a breeze.

I’ve bought a few of these at different places to filter the whole house water. They work great and the only problem I have had is the shut off valve gets stiff and you can’t turn it after around a year which hasn’t been a problem for me because I mounted them right next to the water valve, so I just shut off the water going to it.

Easier to install than I initially thought. well built, works well, slight drop in pressure but does not affect our lifestyle.

I bought this to filter the water going into a new hot water heater. When I removed the old water heater I found the shut-off valve to the tank was partially plugged with sediment and the tank had dirty water coming from the drain valve.

I purchased this sediment filter along with a 2.5 micron carbon filter at Lowe’s two weeks ago. Everyone in the house has commented on how good the water tastes.

A great pro of this system is the silver-infused pleated media that will allow producing water without bacteria ! other machines weren’t having that at this price ..

This filter is really the best for my needs , Flowrate rated at 7gpm that is exactly what was advised by my plumber for my need (vacation duplex in delaware ) .

Super easy maintenance with all instruction aligned on the book+ my plumber could call homvenue to ask how to do some technicals things….

The system went in with a few hiccups but once it was all in it looks great. We have not gotten throught the initial 72 hours where we can avoid putting it into bypass mode for the dishwasher and washing machine yet but when it is on there is clean water coming out after the faucet runs for a minute.

The sediment that comes out during this period is a bit unsettling considering the price we paid. On another note, the chlorine injectors is very LOUD. You can here it two rooms or more away and that is with all the interior walls of our house being filled with insulation.

It echos and is extremely annoying but without it we can’t get rid of the iron. Customer service was ZERO help by simply telling me that’s how I know it is working. Really? Thanks. NOT!! Pelican should warn people before purchase that this thing is loud.

These types of filters are basically required for all new High Efficiency Boilers. Approximately once per year they need to be changed out. The process is pretty easy, but make sure you relieve the downstream pressure before you try to release the cartridge.

If it’s pressurized, you’ll have a tough time getting the cartridge out. First close the upstream valve, then bleed out the pressure by opening a faucet, then close the downstream valve and then remove the filter cartridge.

Purchased this filter for my condo – originally built in 1998. Plumber installed it and now I have clean water flowing out of our taps and showers. We now cook with water straight out of the tap. No more store-bought filters.
