This is a very good packaged soup. I have fixed it several times. However I recommend that the onion be caramelized, i. e. not used with RAW sliced onion. Most recipes for French Onion soup call for caramelized onion, it makes the soup much richer and reduces raw onion taste.

Why the manufactures do not include this in their instruction is puzzling. Other factors which can be taken into consideration is using a quart of Beef Stock plus 2 or 3 cups of water, bringing it to the 7 cups of liquid recommended.

I also add 1 or 2 ozs of cream sherry. Be aware that this packaged dry soup is VERY salty. Not good if you have hypertension. By increasing the amount of liquid the sodium can be diluted.

First of all – this is SO EASY to make – your friends will think you slow cooked this for days !! I used 2 (sliced-thin) large Vidalia onions -sauted them in 2 TBSP of butter until fully cooked; then I stirred in 2 TBSP of flour to the onions & cooked a few more minutes.

Instead of using 7 cups of water – I adjusted by using 2 cups of beef boullion and then 5 cups of water. I added the Cugino’s soup mix and simmered for about 45 minutes. I toasted VERY THINLY sliced French Bread.

Once soup was done- ladled it into bowls put toasted bread in each bowl and then put a slice of provolone cheese ( You can use – Mozzarella, Swiss, etc). The I put bowls on baking sheet under the broiler until cheese was bubbly.

My family and friends are blown away with how great this tastes. Wal-Mart has the lowest price overall and free pickup at their stores! I just bought 7 more packages- some to keep and some to give to family as gifts.

Well I first saw this on an end cap at Walmart in person at the store. There were two kinds available and since I love Onion soup thought I would pick one of these up. Well it came out great. Very tasty and did not seem to be overly salty like some of the other packaged soups, who I won’t name.

Husband even liked it, I was surprised at that. So I bought a 3 pack online and its great to have in the house and on a chilly and rainy day.

Over the years I’ve used Lipton Onion Soup and Dip Mix for many different things. Yes, you can make a wonderful onion soup dip mix but you can also put it on chicken breasts that you cook on the stove.

Just take a frozen chicken breast put it in a pan with a drop of olive oil then put the Lipton onion soup mix on top and let it cook with lid on @ 10 min. , turn it over and put the onion soup mix on the other side of the chicken, lid back on for @ 10 more min.

and your done with juicy chicken breasts that don’t take a lot of time but taste like you’ve cooked them longer than 20 min. So, by the time you get rice ready and a green ready, dinner is done. Dinner in @ 20 min.

I also use it on veggies while cooking them sometimes.

Good. Simple. Seasoned well. Can’t complain. I mean I add home made bread crumbs. And so much cheese. As a simple dinner. And it is really good. I know some people like to add a brandy. Sometimes will heating it uo I will add a splash a red wine.

I think this has a good flavor. We really like French onion dip so I used this in Greek yogurt as a first try. I think the flavor is the same as a brand name French onion soup mix but without the chunks.

This makes the best onion mushroom dip! Just add one envelope to a container of sour cream (16 ounce) and mix. That’s all. Dip your vegetables or favorite chips or whatever you’d like into it for a great treat! You will become addicted! Try something new, spread it on your sandwich instead of mustard or mayo.

I have never made it as just a soup yet, I will let you know how it tastes when that day comes.
