20 Best White Backdrop For Photography (2023 Updated)

This fabric backdrop is deceptive in all the right ways. I have a much smaller space than the 9′ width, so it’s bunched at the edges of my bar, which means the fabric has waves and creases (not to mention the pre-existing fold marks).

Plus the fabric is textured. I certainly expected these to show up, but to my delight every picture appears matte and flat and flawless. Ordered it in deep black as well. Definitely recommend.

I now have two of these backdrops. I have recently used them for a furniture product photo shoot. Folds out nicely for your photo shoot. The one thing I would recommend is a small cordless vacuum for cleaning if you are moving a lot of items on and off the the backdrop.

I was moving a lot of furniture off and on and learned that I needed something to clean from peoples shoes. In my case the furniture was coming out of a warehouse and with that brought extra dirt. Overall, its a great backdrop and I would definitely buy another one.

Also I will tell you that they are easy to clean. They can go right into the washer. Came out perfect after cleaning.

This is the second purchase I have made of a Westcott fabric backdrop. The first was a 9×12′ Chroma-key green and now this smaller 5×7 neutral gray. The material accepts a pole/rod on top and has grommets.

It is easily stretched with minimal effort and a few clamps. I use this small one over a collapsable 58×78 backdrop using a handful of binder clips. The fabric is non-reflective and a nice shade of gray.

I would purchase again.

I was skeptical but got this because of a recommendation from someone who had used it before. I always use paper backdrops and the only reason I decided to try it was because I was doing a type of shoot I’m not used to.

I see no reason for this backdrop whatsoever. I’ve got weeks worth of backdrop edit fixing in post to do now thanks to this stupid thing. There’s creases everywhere, does not photograph well. Save yourself a headache and time and just get paper.

I really don’t understand the move to X-Drop style backdrops over collapsibles. I’m a headshot photographer who’s primarily worked with collapsibles for the past 15+ years. They’re much quicker to deal set up, more simple, and have the same quality to them.

And now you can barely find them as the whole industry has downgraded itself in favor of the more complex X-Drop style. Not cool.

This is like a very large black cotton bed sheet, with a pocket for the background pole to go through. It is thin so if you had a bright light behind then this might be an issue, but shooting at a shutter speed of 1/200th it was completely black.

Using a steamer on it got the creases out in a few minutes. Great cheap background. Think I’ll be getting the white version too.

My online company went all tech on me. Get a green backdrop they said. So I did and the tech thing worked. Quality non woven fabric. Very lightweight. Perfect for what I need as it hangs well and is light enough to take down & fold away if required.

Its great value for money… but always be aware that it might tear if not treated respectfully. A lovely emerald green – just right for filming green screen.

I picked this up for fun and have been using it with different lighting and filters. I am not a photographer, but I am playing around and having fun with what I have. I always wanted a portrait backdrop screen, and now I have one.

Easy set up, and I love that I can simply wash the fabric when it gets dirty.

This paper is great, but: I wish it came in 8ft widths. It’s not very long, if the background is 10′ high, and sweeps 10′ forwards for the subject to stand on, it won’t last very long. This product triggers a heavy shipping charge.

BH has an excellent price, it’s expensive to ship with everyone because it’s heavy and oversized. My first roll gave me such a bad papercut it drew blood. Be careful when removing the plastic sleeve.

The paper is very thick. I wasn’t expecting it to be so durable. It didn’t wrinkle when models walked on it, but be careful of black marks from shoes. This paper is also heavy. If you’re using a temporary backdrop with 2 light stands and a connecting pole, make sure you’re holding a clamp (or a friend to support the paper’s weight).

This paper is so heavy that once you get it started, gravity will force this to unwind more quickly than you are ready for.

After reading about some sketchy shipping practices, I was a bit worried, but I needn’t have been. My 107 roll of Bone Seamless was packed very well, and had a very sturdy core. There was no damage to the roll at all.

It’s the perfect neutral that can be warmed or cooled easily to give a different feel. I would really love to get a better mounting system for the paper, so that’s next on my B&H shopping list. The roll wasn’t nearly as heavy as I was expecting; I was able to carry it up a flight of stairs, down a narrow hall, and into my studio space without issues.

The cardstock paper is very thick. Overall, I’m very pleased with this paper brand and will buy more!.

This paper has been a great asset for our product photography. The paper is thick and not transparent at all. The only faults in my eyes were the texture can be picked up in macro photos and the paper being so thick has some intense creases if bent, and does not move easy.

But all of those complaints are very niche and I still thoroughly enjoyed this product and am ordering more colors from this company.

I purchased this set of three 5 x 12 feet backgrounds in White, Black and Grey because you essentially get the stand and traveling case free if you buy just the backgrounds separately. I wanted to take the full length pictures so I ordered the 12 feet version over the 7 feet long version because I did not want the floor to look different in the full length pictures.

If you have not read the product description carefully, these backgrounds are made out of velvety cloth. This is great for BLACK or GREY because the velvet texture will not reflect light. It make it easy for the background to go black.

The Grey may look light when you see it but due to the velvet texture when you take a picture, it does not reflect lot of light and comes dark like it is shown in the product picture. I did not like WHITE or let me say that I am having hard time having white show up as white.

As you can imagine, WHITE is also made of the same velvet cloth but for anything to show up as HIGH KEY proper white, that texture needs to reflect light and this cloth DOES NOT. You will need lot of background light to get this white background to give you a proper HIGH KEY white background.

As some of the other reviewers at this and other websites have written about this product, this cloth can easily get wrinkled and if you are looking for paper smooth background, you will not get that kind of look.

You should just go buy paper backgrounds in that case. The product picture is shown like a paper background. In reality what you will see is a background that looks like a cloth. Also the product picture shows at the top a straight line, you will not get a straight line at the top which you should not care about but still pointing out that the product picture is not a realistic representation of this product.

I love the fact that everything comes in its case and everything is very easy to pack and transport. I do not need this portability but it may be important for some of you. The fabric is very light weight and will move if you have a ceiling fan running in the room.

I am also finding that you need to use 70-200mm lens for the background to be filling your frame properly for single person portrait shots. When I try to use wide lenses like 24-70mm the background is not fully filling my frame and I have to use Photoshop to extend my background using healing and cloning tools.

This takes extra time so I am contemplating if I should get one more of this set so that I have a 10 feet wide coverage whereas right now I only have 4. 5 feet of usable width out of the 5 feet as 1/2 feet is lost in the edges not staying perfectly straight from top to bottom since this a cloth so it tends to bend inwards.

For a quick and easy backdrop, this is definitely something worth considering. I used to use the folding backdrop (I think also from Westcott) for headshots, but as soon as I needed a full-body it wouldn’t work obviously.

This sets up seriously in 1. 5-2minutes and is plenty large and stable. You could perhaps get 2 people side by side as long as you shot narrow enough, but it’s essentially made for one person, full body.

The backdrops themselves are made of a strange, almost wooly material, which seems to be non-reflective, and doesn’t show too many small folds, but will make shadows if you don’t adjust the upper arms well upon setup.

Overall for 200 bucks? Definitely worth it – especially considering how many 1st and 3rd party backdrops are available for this system!.

Several of my pro headshot friends said they have this X-Drop and love it. I put off buying it for about 2 years because I had been using one of those pop up backdrops made by a different manufacturer.

After my pop-up backdrop snapped/broke, I finally bought the X-Drop and I am SO HAPPY with it. First of all, it’s super easy to travel with — I stuck it in my suitcase when I traveled across country for a shoot.

I could not have done that w/my prior pop up back drop. Secondly, it assembles QUICKLY (I watched Westcott’s quick guide YouTube vid). Lastly, I love that the legs can be adjusted so that backdrop’s footprint is small/narrow and fits even the tightest of rooms.

Definitely recommend this great backdrop!.

I love Replica. I now have 4 pieces, and they’re all amazing. I really love photography, and during COVID, I haven’t been able to do as much as I would like to. However, I cannot tell you how fun it is to have a little mini photo studio right in your house.

Whether you’re considering Replica for a business investment or want to have some awesome backgrounds for taking pictures at home, you won’t be disappointed. I cannot wait to get more.

Would give it ZERO stars if I could. Terrible product. You have to have at least 10 people in order to unroll it without getting creases in the paper. And once you have creases it, is unusable and worthless as anything you do will have the creases.

Only buy if you have at least 10 people to unroll it and lay it out to use! Otherwise, it is a complete and utter waste of money for you.

I used this to paint a “mural” in my nursery when we were renting. Now that we own a house, I had always thought I’d paint directly on the walls. No way, this paper is almost as good as a mural straight on the wall.

I actually took the rental house mural and put it up in the new house. My husband nailed trim around it so it looks like a mural on the wall surrounded by wood trim. It’s awesome. I used watercolor – it looks great but did wrinkle a little.

In future I will do oil pastel murals and it will be awesome. The sky is the limit with this stuff if you use common, art-school sense. Highly, highly recommend for the price. Can’t beat it. If you really want to make a statement with your art, this stuff is basically large-scale-sketch-book.

The exaggerated scale of the final watercolor is just so fantastic. I can send photos if you want. The paper would be better if it were slightly thicker, as it slightly wrinkled, but you simply cannot have that for this price.

I’m still awestruck with the job it did.

I needed large paper to create a map for a school wide celebration. This paper was perfect! It’s long and thick, so it could be hung on a wall. Keep in mind that this roll is over 8 feet long, so it’s definitely a two-person job to unroll and get it ready.

I looked on various websites, and for the price and amount of paper you get, it’s definitely worth it!.

I love the flexibility with it being a pop out plus having the extension. Only need one stand and it doesn’t “potato chip” at all. The thing does come very wrinkled. But that’s what steamers are for.

They are probably heavily compressed during the long journey to you so a simple steaming and it’s all good. My only issue is on one side where the extension meets the black border. It is ripped and the fabric is very easily ripped so I will have to strengthen that somehow or some way.

This is the reason I deducted one star.

I purchased this for on location head shot sessions. It was super easy to setup and take down. I had to watch a YouTube video and practice breaking it down before using it at my session to be sure I knew what I was doing.

It’s pretty easy once you have the hang of it. If there were one thing that I’d change it would be for it to have a wrinkle resistant fabric. Other than that it’s worth every cent!.

I needed a portable white backdrop for on-location shooting that was easy to manage. For reference – I’m 5’2, not very strong, and have the wingspan of a sparrow. I can close this thing myself without assistance.

If you’ve ever closed a smaller pop up, then you can handle this – same motions, just requires a little more effort. I used it for on-location strobe-lit portraits & groups of up to 4 this past weekend.

We did a lot of jumping around and raising hell, and this backdrop worked perfectly. Easy set up, easy break down, lightweight to and from. One thing I LOVE about this one is that it has several velcro loops along the top and sides which make it very easy to attach to a backdrop stand.

I like the color, and I felt that the material was thick enough. I did not find the wrinkles to be excessive. In fact, I think it tends to wrinkle a lot less than a traditional muslin backdrop. The softness of the material and the tension of the frame help with that.

It feels about as sturdy and durable as other pop-ups I have used. Because it is white, it does get dirty easily but a steamer will help with that, and I’m sure it can be hand washed if you are really concerned.

But lets be real: Photoshop. Overall: I’m very satisfied, especially for the price. I like it more than I thought, and I plan to order it in black as well.

I’ve been using paper rolls for a long time. In an effort to get away from having to replace them so often due to scuffs, I switched to one of these backdrops for use in my rather short-ceilinged basement.

Much to my chagrin, scuffs do not wipe off as easily as the manufacturer would have you believe, and this vinyl is NOT very robust. In fact, it is more fragile than paper, is susceptible to subtle shifts in temperature, and takes some elbow grease to get even slight scuffs or shoe stains off of, despite cleaning footwear before people walk onto it.

Sad to say that I shelled out the cost and shipping on this. Not a mistake I’ll make again.

I first bought this backdrop when was branded Lastolite by Manfrotto. It was my most popular backdrop request for headshots. I had an accident and ruined it so I purchased another one, now rebranded as Manfrotto.

It looked like it was the same, but this one shows creases all over and inconsistencies in color (like stripes) all over. The old one was much smoother and easier to work with. This one creates more work when editing.

I am a huge Manfrotto fan, but I have to say I’m a little disappointed with this product.

It is better quality than the Fotodiox, but the grey side consistently produces a purple tint when lit to middle grey. You can see it a bit when lighting to white, but it’s much more noticeable at middle grey.

Fortunately, my subjects haven’t been wearing purple, but this is extra work in post I don’t need. The fabric could be more opaque/reflective, too. The black side works pretty well. I feel that the Savage paper backdrop is in my future, but that’s a lot less convenient than the promise of this thing.

Pro tip: Get the magnetic holder. 100% worth it.

I bought this background three years ago and used it off and on. a few months ago I was folding it up and the steel rim snapped and came through the cloth. I went looking on the B&H site to see how much a replacement was going to cost me when I noticed that Lastolite has a lifetime warranty on the steel rim.

I contacted them and they requested a copy of the original invoice (which I was able to download from the B&H site) and a picture of the damage. It took them a few weeks but Lastolite responded and sent me a new background replacement under the warranty.

I know as photographers we all have a few pieces of Manfrotto/Lastolite equipment but I will be a loyal customer for life thanks to their excellent customer service. This is why it pays to do business with authorized dealers like B&H.

You may find what seems like a better deal on Amazon but you really don’t know who you’re dealing with and if you purchase an item from an unauthorized dealer, the manufacturer may not honor any warranty claims.

Lastolite products may cost a little more but the quality and the fact that they stand behind their products makes it worth the extra dollars.

I do corporate and professional headshots on location using the Savage wrinkle-resistant 5×9 gray background. Several people asked about passport or visa photos which require a white background. This poly material can be easily stuffed into a bag and takes up very little room and weighs very little.

So, its portable and I can change out the background easily alone or in virtually no time with my assistant helping. I just lower the cross bar with the gray background and clamp the white to the cross bar (with the gray still hung), raise the cross bar back up and snap the photo.

I have yet to use the background. In looking at it looks like decent quality. The only complaint that I have is that it is thin. I may have to have something else behind it if I use it outdoors with heavy sunlight.

Otherwise, it should work fine.

The backdrop stand is very easy to assemble. Great for a mini photoshoot or a baby shower backdrop. Recommend if you are a DIY person.

Je zou hem dan ook nooit omgedraaid uitrollen, dan is de grijze kant direct verloren zaak. Als niets het grijs aanraakt is het wel een mooie vlakke matte neutrale grijs. De aluminiumrol waar die op zit is ook erg stevig.

Takes less than 10 min to assemble. Fabric seems pretty thick but I haven’t used it in a photo shoot yet. No crinkles because the fabric is stretched out and clipped onto the frame. This beats my paper backdrop that would always get lots of crinkles when people accidentally backed into it.

Almost perfect except: I wish the bolt nuts were glued onto the 4 connectors that connect the 3 separate aluminum frames to each other (so you don’t lose the nuts) It’s an easy fix to do yourself but the manufacturer should have thought of that.

Works prefectly, takes about 10 mins to set up, then you’re all set. Material is thin enough to give you options for how you light – I often fire strobes through from behind. And it’s huge, 4m. but packs down into a moderately sized holdall which fits in the boot of my car.

Impresses the hell out of clients when I turn up with two bags, they leave the room and when they come back this thing’s up.

DO NOT buy this product without the frame. fabric only is a great product, but the way it’s designed you cannot connect it to anything and it’s basically useless. It’s impossible to find the frame only online after the fact.

they always advertise the product ion the frame but sell the fabric only. if you think you can make a frame that will fit, good luck if you’re not a tradesman!.

This Vlogger Screen is wonderful! You can use it for multiple scenarios. I use it indoors for Youtube videos, documentaries, interviews and music videos. It’s long but portable and very easy to use. All you have to do is pull up on it to open and push down to close it.

It takes me 10 seconds to open and start using my vlogger screen. It comes in a built-in case with a handle and 2 legs underneath for stability. If you’re looking for a backdrop that you can put up on a few seconds, this is a must buy!.

Looks great. Works great. Super easy to set up. Super easy to tear down. It’s a bit pricey, but I think the convenience is worth it. The way it rolls up keeps it wrinkle free, which makes evenly lighting it easier.

It’s also fairly compact when stored. It slides nicely under a bed.

Perfect! Exactly what I needed. I needed a background that I could quickly set up and put away for work meetings via webcam. I get uncomfortable when I know that people can see my bed. No regrets in buying this.

Though I will say. there’s a strong possibility of it falling down, especially on carpet. So make sure you have something place behind it so if it leans, it won’t fall!.
