20 Best Whiskey For Irish Coffee (2023 Updated)

I don’t drink often but when I do, it needs to be something flavourful and not too sweet. I like options that are versatile and can be enjoyed mixed or straight with ice. The Jameson Cold Brew Whiskey hits all these points.

It has a great smoothness to it and is really good straight or mixed in with some chocolate milk. This also goes excellently over ice cream, in hot chocolate, coffee or mixed in with some Coke or Dr Pepper.

The coffee notes are complementary to the Whiskey but not overwhelming. The Whiskey still has the stage of this show.

So I bought this last year thinking it sounded interesting, thinking it was probably just a gimmick. I threw it over ice just to get a taste of it and holy cow! I was completely blown away! It’s smooth, bold, and the coffee flavors bring to mind a well made and strong Irish coffee.

The best endorsement I can think of is that my Dad likes it!! The man who doesn’t go for weird new alcohol. As soon as it got harder to find, since it is seasonal, I bought as much as I could even going two hours away to find it! I’m stoked that it’s back!! Try it, you won’t be disappointed!.

I started drinking Jameson Whiskey a few years ago after a recommendation from a family member. I have an extensive Irish heritage and favor the Irish whiskeys over others. Jameson has been my favorite and since trying the Jameson Cold Brew I have found my new favorite drink! I love my coffee and this blend has just enough flavor with the coffee to make it an excellent drink.

I mix Jameson Cold Brew with Diet Coke for a refreshing pick me up.

I am enjoying this. Different from your usual Irish. It has the typical enjoyable sweetness of an Irish. Pear skin is the dominant note. I saw that in another review and it definitely presents itself.

Maple syrup, french toast, cinnamon toast crunch, that general thing. That it is sherried is apparent. I got this on discount, but $37 would be fair. The bottle is a keeper. Makes a unique Mule base.

I like it a lot with a splash of Perrier. You probably won’t like it if what you expect is high class, but bang-for-buck, this competes.

This whiskey is an absolute ticket to a wonderful experience. The packaging is what made me buy it, but to be honest, when I asked for the price I was surprised because it’s a young single malt and not a blend, and the price was really good in comparison to other single malts in the market.

When I tried it, I was surprised by the hints of cherry wood and malt, delicious smooth flavor (let it breathe for a couple of minutes with a small block or ball of ice for optimal results). Honestly, I liked it so much that is now a permanent addition to my bar, great malty flavor, and quality in an amazing presentation (I like skulls) and you can’t beat the introductory price to the market.

Try it at least once and see for yourself, of course, it will not beat a Glenn or a Balvenie, but those are way more expensive and the quality in all honesty is not that far from there. I hope they make another edition a little older in age, but this one is great as a young single malt.

I bought this based on a recommendation from a friend. I usually drink rye or bourbon when I drink whiskey, the only time I ever drank Irish Whisky was when someone would order pickleback shots and it was usually Jameson.

But, this brand was recommended and has a very approachable price point of around $30. This is very smooth and I would not mix this with anything. I had one neat, one with a few drops of water, then one with a giant ice cube.

It is good every way I tried it but going forward I’ll probably only drink neat or with a few drops of water. I let some other friends try it and everyone liked it. It doesn’t have that strong of a whiskey burn on the finish.

If you are looking for a drinkable Irish Whisky with a good price, give this a try.

I see a lot of negative reviews and thought I would share my perception. So, I was a fan of Connor and when I saw the ads for Proper 12, I was intrigued. I really like it. I mainly drink whiskey and at home, I choose Proper 12 more often than others on my whiskey list.

Others that I like are Jameson, Elijah Craig, Templeton, and Monkey Shoulder. My only complaint is that I am not able to find it at restaurants and nightclubs or casinos that I visit. Either in Scottsdale AZ or on the Vegas Strip.

So who ever the distributor is, get your head out of wherever it is and get this whiskey in more places besides the grocery stores.

This is the only review I’ve ever written regarding Irish whiskey, but I thought I’d add my voice to the seemingly growing throng of people who feel ripped off with this one. Irish whiskey is usually a safe bet, they’re generally all drinkable.

If not neat, fine as a mixer. It’s the reason there’s usually not a need for reviews. There just aren’t any bad ones. Well that ends with Proper Twelve. My one star rating might seem harsh, as I’ve had plenty of American whisky that is far worse, but as far as Irish? There is none below this at any price.

It burns like the most inexpensive bottom-shelf swill available and has a distinct aftertaste of isopropyl alcohol—rubbing alcohol. If you’re looking in this price point, 2 Gingers, Paddy’s as well as the popular Jameson and Bushmills are all excellent.

Avoid this Proper Twelve. Not recommended. At all.

Was supposed to be similar to my favorite double-casked sherry Whiskey (Tangle Ridge), but has too much of a bite. Not as smooth nor sweet. Have to use mixed. Not as nice on the rocks. The search continues.

Better than Jameson. Better than many single malts. Eyes closed, you’d never know it’s a blend. Your first try won’t be your last. Given the price, this becomes the new go-to. Please don’t cut this with anything—neat only!.

I really enjoyed The Busker’s blend. For it’s price, I was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the liquid. Will definitely be buying again!

To give an idea of my preference in Irish whisky, I don’t like the entry level Jameson, I do like entry level Tullamore Dew. I prefer Redbreast to Greenspot. For the price, the Irishman founder’s reserve is about the best I’ve had so far.

It’s more complex than the entry level Tullamore, and has the classic Irish flavors. Buy it before it catches on and try it.

I use this to make my homemade eggnog every year. I love it! The reason I gave it four stars is that I wouldn’t necessarily sip it straight like I would with other whiskey. It’s good, but better in eggnog.

Way better than expected! The all barley recipe (no cheap column still corn whiskey) with a mix of Single Pot Still and Single Malt (also pot still) make for a smooth and rich Irish style whiskey. For those that don’t know: Single Pot Still “is a style of Irish whiskey made by a single distillery from a mixed mash of malted and unmalted barley distilled in a pot still” It’s the unmalted barley that give Irish whisky its unique flavor.

Many of the reviewers are correct – it barely qualifies as whisk(e)y. But it is incredibly tasty. I have used The Knot to introduce non-whiskey drinkers to the genre. In particular women love the somewhat sweet, caramel character.

And you do have to be careful, at 100 proof it carries a kick. Sure, the purists among the whiskey snobs will find a number of faults but 2 fingers over a single ice cube will always bring a smile to my face.

So – armed with the knowledge that this is not Jamesons, give it a try. If you don’t like it, I’ll take the bottle off your hands. Besides, it probably has be best reading rear label that I have ever encountered.

This whiskey is a hard item to find in orange county but going through Google. I was able to find it “in stock” at Quality Liquors in San Diego. Christmas gift and I was extremely excited to get this item.

This is perhaps the best whiskey I’ve ever had. As a young whiskey drinker, this is really good compared to the big names. I would consider this a whiskey liqueur not really a whiskey but it’s still amazing! If you buy it read the back of the bottle it is hilarious.

Two weeks ago 30 minutes before closing I made a visit to my local gilbert AZ store looking specifically for some Bourbons that a recent acquaintance made to me. As I walked in I found the night manager who showed me personally to the aisle(s) where the products I was searching for were located.

Before returning to the front of the store he said had I ever tried Kavanaugh’s? I said NO, NEVER HEARD OF IT. He gave me the distinctive history of this product going back in history to the Irish Whisky Wars.

He grabbed a bottle of it and showed me where it was located. As we were approaching the check out point I asked him “is that bottle of Kavanaugh’s in your hand for me? He said, it was for him however he handed it to me and then said I will get another” He said as he was heading back to the Bourbon/Whiskey aisle, “Let me know what you think of it?” I tried it that night and it performed just like he said it would.

A good to great Whiskey for an incredible price. Thank you Total Wine!.

This spirit won’t knock your socks off. I tried it neat first and what’s hitting me is the alcohol upfront with a little bit of sweetness. When I added a little bit of ice though it actually made it better! The ice knocked down the alcohol and you get a little bit more sweetness maybe honey with vanilla.

For a $20 whiskey I’d say this is a pretty good value but that’s about it. There’s not much complexity to this whiskey but for something that’s in the more affordable range it’s not bad. I suggest adding a little ice to tone down that industrial alcohol that hit you at the beginning.

I actually went to Total Wine to purchase a different Irish whiskey that I really love. While there, I asked a store associate there for other Irish whiskeys that he could reccomend. He pointed this one out and I was hesitant to purchase it because the price point was very low compared to other Irish whiskeys that I enjoy.

He explained that it is actually a higher quality, award winning whiskey, but that they can sell it for cheaper because they do virtually no advertising. I tried it and decided I like it more than many other Irish whiskeys that sell for far more.

Definitely a great bargain for the money.

You’ll taste the Irish size (apple taste) but end with the American size as you’ll taste the sweetness that comes from the bourbon. This is such a unique whiskey and you don’t find this quality with this reasonable price.

All my accolades go to the master distiller behind this beautiful marriage of Irish and American and that’s none other than Brian Nation. Give it a try and you’ll be thoroughly amazed!!.

I really enjoy this whiskey. It has a nice burn to it but it’s really hard to describe the flavor. You just need to try it! Normally I like jim beam, eagle rare, Buffalo trace, Elijah Craig, etc. This stuff is simply put a little different than those but very solid all around.

If you can find some, pick it up!.

I started out neat and it definitely has an Irish whiskey component. However, when an ice cube was added this is an entirely different drink. I liked it very much. Thanks

I have recently begun to enjoy whiskey Trending more towards Irish whiskeys This one is up there with the others I have tried . I am no expert by any means. But I enjoyed it and recommend.

Smooth, from the first whiff, until the last Drop

Makes a good Irish Coffee and that’s about it. Needs to be aged at least 5 more years. You can literally smell the burn. If you really do like good whiskey, then don’t waste your money. If you’re comparing to Redbreast 12 or Green Spot, McConnell’s isn’t even on the same shelf.

Before sampling this at TW I asked the rep if it was like Jameson. He said I’d throw my Jameson away if I drank this. While I have no desire to throw away perfectly good liquor I will say that this stuff is waaaaaay better.

Admittedly I’m not crazy about Irish whiskey, but this is delicious.

I found this whisky to be exceptionally smooth and flavorful. Honestly one of the few brands that tastes as good as it looks, and advertises itself to be; and it even comes in a bottle befitting of such a fine spirit.

I have been drinking Jameson for about twenty years now. Every drop has been smooth going down the throat and the beautiful taste of Ireland is on the tongue. Jameson is great any time of day or night.

Straight up, or over rocks, you will find Jameson will hold a wonderful flavor no matter how you deliver it to your mouth. The best way to enjoy Jameson is sitting in a local pub and having a good conversation with friends.

I also enjoy it alone thinking about my trips to Ireland and getting that small taste of peat smoke way back on my tongue. Hot weather, cold weather, raining or snowing is the best time to sit and savor a wee glass of Jameson.

When I read about Drumshanbo, I was intrigued. It opens with sweet spices, pears, and yellow apples, then there’s a bit of light oranges, white pepper, and sweet white wine. The legs are thin – great for the ladies, not so great for the finish.

The finish is sweet white wine, lots of white fruit (pear, yellow apples, white grapes, etc. ) with white pepper sprinkled in. Waaaay too sweet for my liking ,but if you like a sweet white wine with lots of light fruit, this may be your dram.

Drink slow, drink long, drink a variety, drink often.

While Blanton’s Original Single Barrel won’t be the best bourbon to grace your palate, it does offer a consistent pour that is hard to dislike and justifies its MSRP. The palate hits with an initial sweetness, housing notable flavors of light caramel, honey, muted vanilla, and brown sugar.

Underlying the opening flavors are leather, charred oak, and a rye spice, which bubbles to the top. The flavor combination is solid, owing to the fact that they all play together very well and demonstrate more of a “classic†bourbon flavor profile.

While the flavors are more on the subdued side likely owing to the 93 proof the bourbon sports, what is present is formidable and enjoyable.

This is quite an interesting whiskey for several reasons: it’s smooth, approachable and slightly sweet like one might expect from an Irish whiskey, yet it has that added Scottish-style single malt complexity as well.

Not as heavy or rich as many Scotch single malts, but rather somewhere between a Green Spot Irish and a Glenmorangie Scotch single malt. Nose is very fruity with not much punch at 40% ABV. Taste is pretty much what you would expect from the nose: fruity; specifically very prominent taste of cooked pear.

Add a drop or two of water and it mellows out even more, tasting almost like an incredibly smooth and friendly pear-flavored single malt. Not in an overly sweet manner which might turn Scotch fans off, but in a very mellow and dry manner which is quite refreshing when coming off of heavier, richer Scotches, i.

e. an Islay or any complex non-peated single malt even. If you’re a fan of both Irish whiskey and Scotch such as myself, I think you will find something to appreciate here. This would also make a very friendly single malt introduction for friends, family and the like who are unacquainted with the richer character inherent with many traditional single malt scotches.

Overall, don’t buy this as a replacement or substitute for your favorite single malt scotch. Add this to your line-up as a nice alternative for when you want to experience something that’s light and friendly, but without being boring or lacking in character.

If I could give this bourbon 10 stars I would. It is really that darned-good! We have tried many brands over the years and while some were good, none of them were Great. Well, I can no longer say that.

Blanton’s is the smoothest, tastiest, bourbon out there. It did get some well deserved love from John Wick. After barely surviving a shoot out ninja butt-kicking at the Red Circle, he poured himself a glass of Blanton’s while being stitched up in his room at the Continental.

According to the local store owner, John Wick’s go-to drink is now being asked for by people in every age group. The bottle itself is gorgeous. The top is adorned with a old timey brass horse and rider in full stride.

The label contains a wealth of information. The dump date, barrel and rick numbers, warehouse, and bottled at proof. Then each bottle is individually numbered. When poured, the first thing we noticed was the absence of the overpowering alcohol odor that usually accompanies whiskey.

Second was the rich caramel color of the bourbon. Bottom line – If you enjoy bourbon you have to try Blanton’s.

I visited the #Teeling Distillery in Dublin and bought several varieties of their #irishwhiskey. Teeling is the first distillery to open in Dublin, #Ireland, in quite some time. They make fine whiskeys at reasonable prices.

I was happy to find most of the varieties here in the U. S. Last year, I sent bottles to colleagues and clients for St. Patrick’s Day, and they, too, offered great reviews! Smooth and hits the spot. If you like #whiskey, try Teeling!.

Was a beginner in the Irish whiskey world, when I decided I’d actually go to Ireland (ancestry geek) to figure out what’s really going on vs the world of American bourbon. This Single Grain is one of my very favorites.

It’s incredibly light, with a honey and vanilla front and very little “woody” flavor. I’m no professional connoisseur, but I’ve tried 30+ Irish whiskies in the past 3-4 years (15+ in Ireland, most you can’t buy in America) and Teeling is Top 3 of any brand I’ve tried.

You can’t go wrong with Writer’s Tears (more advanced), Tullamore, and Teelings especially this Single grain. Beginners start here and you’ll never go back to bourbons.

We have enjoyed the Jameson Black Barrel for a long time, however, a tour of the Middleton Distillery in Ireland made all the difference in the world. We gained an appreciation for how their whiskeys are made and to what lengths they go to make a superior whiskey.

Once we tried the Cooper’s Croze we were hooked! It is soooo buttery smooth – certainly, no ‘whiskey face’ here. CHECK IT OUT!!!.

The taste is very close to the description provided, but it is very subtle and falls short of what it could be. Now mind you this after me coming down from the Jameson gold reserve, which for me was a masterpiece on crafting.

This is difficult to describe but amazing. It is neck-and-neck with redbreast 12 year. Definitely worth the money.

I am not a big drinker but when I do drink I normally HATE whiskey. However, Jameson is smooth and has a way better and easier taste then any other I’ve tried. I love pairing it with sweet n sour mix, sprite, peach schnapps for a yummy green tea shot or butterscotch liquor and an orange juice chaser for breakfast shots! It’s also good alone with a ginger ale chaser.

We are a Jameson household! We love it here. this is my boyfriends favorite whiskey. we like to try different drinks but when we buy alcohol we always pick up a bottle of Jameson. Our favorite way to drink this whiskey is with some ginger ale.

a Moscow mule is great with this also. you really cant go wrong with Jameson.

I love the feeling of whisky running through my throat because it relieves my stress from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. I usually order single shot because I have gastritis and can’t really drink alcohol but I excuse myself from time to time.

Jameson is my go to when life leaves me to the edge of a precipice. Jameson whisky saves me! 4-star because I love Kilchoman whisky more than Jameson but it doesn’t mean the latter is anything less. They’re both life savers!.

I have been enjoying Jameson for several years. It’s wonderfully smooth over rocks. On a trip to Ireland in 2019 I was introduced to what has become my favorite cocktail – Jameson, ginger ale, and lime.

Perfect way to relax at the end of the workday or on a Saturday evening. I introduced my brother, who has been a casual Jack Daniels drinker for years, to Jameson. It is now his go to whiskey and loves the ginger ale and lime cocktail.

When he visits I have to be sure I have plenty of Jameson on hand! The Jack has been replaced and now I only use it for cooking. Thank you John Jameson for creating the perfect Irish whiskey.

I have been drinking this whiskey for about six years, and while the term “worth the price” is up to each individual, you can definitely taste the difference between Crockett Reserve and other bottles.

If you are not going to sip and savor each glass, this may not be for you. But a glass of Crockett is my treat at the end of the work week.

I am in agreement with the other reviewer, however, as I am also a bourbon lover I have to give this a solid 5 stars. When I compare this to traditional Irish Whiskey, I don’t get that distinct profile that comes with Redbreast 15/21/Cask or Teeling’s Small/Special’s, or even Power’s.

With that said, the taste profile is almost a mix of this with some vanilla and caramel, with a similar Blanton’s kind of profile to the nose and that initial tongue warming burn from a strong bourbon (which I don’t get in Irish Whiskey’s).

I for one am pleased with this product, it is hard to classify it as Irish Whiskey though, it just comes from Ireland, that said, I would have no hesitation of getting another bottle to store in the cabinet.

I love Middleton to begin with, but the Barry Crockett is superb. You get a taste of limes, mandarin orange, hints of vanilla and cinnamon, with a light pepperiness all bound up in a wonderfully smooth, yet fresh, sweetness.

The oak does come though and all this flavor lasts into the finish quite wonderfully.

My boyfriend and I met and quickly bonded over our love for Jameson! We had been together for about 2 years and I want to say went through at least 3 bottles a week between the 2 of us. Our all time favorite is the Jameson gold, which we only drink on special occasions, and our second favorite is tied between the IPA Caskmates and the Black Barrel! We had been trying to have a baby for about a year and we have pinpointed our baby girls conception a few days after fourth of July when we had started and finished a bottle of Caskmates that evening!! The hardest thing about being pregnant is the fact that I can’t drink Jameson, and I told the boyfriend that as soon as Luna is born that is the first drink I want to have!!.

I am not a fan of regular Jameson. I find Jameson thin and metallic. I generally prefer bourbon, with Woodford being a favorite. That said, I find both the Stout and the IPA caskmates to be simple but delicious Whiskies.

The IPA fills out the thin flavors of Jameson and the metallic notes are completely lost. There is a hoppy, botanical (almost gin-like) note to this bottle. I find this to be a highly enjoyable whiskey.

Maybe not a special occasion bottle (unless any whiskey signifies a celebration to you) but one I can go to time and time again. The stout is also very good but slightly less interesting for me.

There are rare moments in life when all of the ingredients come together in one harmonious blend to make a product that is both extremely tasty and cost efficient. These moments are even more rare in the world of whiskey! Jameson’s Caskmates Stout Edition is one such item.

The nose is pleasant with whiff’s of the stout coming through most noticeably. It is almost as if you are walking through the brewery and being surrounded by that scent of yeast. There is no overwhelming scent of alcohol which you find in some blends of this nature.

On the palette the taste is surprisingly smooth for a 40 proof whiskey. The buttered biscuit notes you find in much of Irish whiskey are mellowed by the stout and become more of a pancake covered in rich maple syrup! After that initial taste there is a mild dark chocolate note on the finish.

I would say the finish itself is a little short but the overall experience is very good. This is not a perfect whiskey, so Heaven still has a ways to go. But for the price, and the sheer pleasure one gets in drinking the Stout Edition, one can not go wrong! The more I drink it the better it gets.

Undeniably smooth and very enjoyable. I’ll take it neat, please! Going to have to try their other expressions.
