20 Best Wheels For S550 Mustang (2023 Updated)

These wheels are amazing. The gloss black finish presents a clean appearance with minimal orange peel. The concavity provided by these wheels is unbeatable. The only reason for this 3 star review is due to the add-ons you are not made aware of during purchase.

Apparently Rovos wheels need a special spacer because their hub diameter is larger then the hub on the s197. Additionally the front 20×8. 5 DO NOT CLEAR the Brembo calipers on “track-pack” mustangs with the 4 piston Brembo’s up front.

This is unacceptable when paying $365 for a wheel that clearly states FITS ALL MUSTANGS 05-14. The spacer I was provided is not ideal either, yes it gets the job done, but it is not hub centric and leaves minimal threads (7) to hold the wheel on the front hub.

Will be looking for a better solution in the future along with longer studs. Overall they are quality wheels but I would not recommend as there are better options that provide a better fit.

Ordered these to use on front of my pp1 car to match my drag setup for the rear. My 17×4. 5 fronts would not clear the brembo brakes on my new car so this was my only option to have a matching setup for the track.

Not ideal but it works for now.

They look amazing. More aggressive look and the they grab the road really well as I wrapped them in Nittos. 20×10 rear, 305. 20×8.5 in the front with 255.

I’ll start off with saying that I spent about a year off and on looking for some bronze wheels for my 2000 GMC Sonoma. The hard thing about the 2wd S-Series trucks is they need practically 0 offset and roughly 4″ backspacing.

Most the wheels I’d found had been designed with roughly +30 offset to fit modern Corvettes and Camaros, and I refuse to use spacers to make wheels like that fit. Well I’d looked at a lot of places but for some reason never thought to look at Summit, and of course the last place to look had what I wanted.

For the wheels themselves, they seem to be really good quality. This is the first wheel I’ve used with shank style lug nuts and didn’t know how to feel about them at first. But after driving with them and re-torquing the wheels after roughly 100 miles they seem to be holding like any normal lug nuts.

I highly recommend following Race Star Wheels guide line on the torque spec for the lug nuts (sold separately in sets of 10 & 20) and not just using an impact. Since these wheels are shank style they have a big washer that centers the lug nut and over torquing them can damage the lug nut, I know from experience and needed to order a second set of lug nuts because I didn’t feel comfortable reusing the five I used to test fit a wheel.

The only issue, which is purely cosmetic, is some of the center cap screws seem to not go completely flush with the center cap. Now it could just be me not tightening them all the way but it’s something I’m cautious of due to all the cracked center caps I see in my automotive work from people over tightening the bolts.

I’ll probably go back and tighten them up some more later on. The finish of the wheel is polished bronze on the outer lip and a metallic/matt bronze for everything else. Overall I’m happy with the wheels so far, they are supposed to have a 2 year finish and lifetime structural warranty so well see how they hold up over time.

First off for any application you will need need longer shank style lug nuts, you need to know these wheels require a 1. 38” shank length lug nut. The lug nut part number I used was 601-1422-10 from race star.

It came with Hubcentric rings, Lugnuts, washers, valve stems, and a socket. Very nice kit but they are open ended. I got these for my 2006 GTO and they fit bolt pattern wise but it was not a bolt on application.

I decided to upgrade my wheel studs and lug nuts with ARP studs. 2. 5” wheel studs are ideal but I went with 3. 25 so I would have some stud poking out for tach at drag racing. Due to the 7. 25” back spacing and these wheels being made for a F-body on a GTO you will need to roll or cut your inner fender lip, depending on the size tire you’re trying to stuff into you GTO I used a 26X10X15 tire, if you go 8.

5” wide I’d think you’d be fine but if that’s the case don’t get a 10” wide rim. All and all I would but these again, even with some small modification it beats the price point of the competition, looks great, and performs.

Bought these wheels and checked the radial run out, finish, backspacing. everything just like race star stated in there warranty sheet sent with every wheel. Mounted the tires and went to the track. Don’t race a lot, so when not racing I mount my Razor rims and tires to drive on street.

One day getting ready to go to the track, friend of mine helped me change out wheels to the race stars, he noticed that the lug nuts on 0ne wheel didn’t sit in far enough on one wheel. Pulled wheels and checked lug bore depth.

one wheel is a 1/4” higher than the other. Contacted race star and sent wheel to them, they sent it back and said lug bore depth and backspacing were both acceptable. you will see what I’m talking in attached pictures.

I’m a little OCD now I have a car offset lug nut. Now stuck with a what I consider a bad wheel and deal. SO DON’T TO FORGET TO CHECK THE LUG BORE.

I purchased these wheels for the front of my 1970 Challenger. Shipping was quick and they were not damaged at all. The fit was perfect, no fender rubbing or interference with the disc brakes. The finish is excellent and shows very well.

I was pleasantly surprised by these wheels, I was skeptical because of the low price. I really liked the machined finish, black insets, and the clear coat, they look really sharp. I’ve had issues with 2 piece wheels wheels in the past, but these are one piece and run straight and true.

They also come with center caps, saving about $120 over other wheels (in total cost). I haven’t had them long enough to evaluate their durability, but I am confident they will look like new for a long time.

These are the perfect wheels for my car and couldn’t be happier with them. Took 4 days longer than expected to actually arrive. Tracking showed 2 packages leaving 2 different locations and spending 3 days traveling to multiple points in California and Washington before finally heading east.

But they were well packed and arrived without defects. Had the tires mounted and balanced with minimal weights at a local shop. I’m thoroughly happy with this purchase.

I had originally ordered 4 of the Mag 500’s from a well known company that makes them back in the first week of December 2017. Got a delivery date of 2/10/18 then got a notice that delivery was pushed back to 3/30/18 then pushed back till 4/30/18 then pushed back again to 5/30/18 with no guarantee that date would be any good.

After numerous calls to the manufacturer when I could expect my wheels and never could get a straight answer I gave up and started a search and found what I was looking for at Scott Drake. Yes these are a Mustang rim but so was the Mag 500’s back in the 60’s.

I Ordered a set from Summit and had them in 3 day, best thing I ever did, quality of the wheel is much better than the ones I was looking to buy and they balanced perfect. The company I was looking to purchase from as I had purchased wheels before from them uses a very cheap Chrome that scratches very easy ( ask me how I know ).

The Scott Drake wheel is a polished machine surface then clear coated. If any one is looking for wheels for their Mopar I would check these out and Summit has them in stock and a good price.

My old chrome magnums were starting to rust and wanted to replace them. Heard good & bad things about other chrome magnum wheels, and decided to try something different. I had previously purchased another set of Legendary Wheels and was very impressed with the quality and looks, so it was an easy decision to buy another one of their wheels.

The fit & finish is top notch and the wheels were easy to balance, only requiring a minimum weight. Overall, a very nice wheel. Can’t wait to get my 15x8s for the back!.

Race Star Industries Drag Stars. 17 inch. 5×5 bolt pattern. What else needs to be said? This is an awesome “off the shelf” wheel, that isn’t a torque thrust (although there’s nothing wrong with torque thrusts) and it fits a C10 nearly perfectly.

They are a polished, non-clearcoated wheel, so they do need to be regularly cared for on a semi regular basis. These already fit hub centric on my application (1987 Chevy R10) so hub centric rings are not required.

Overall these wheels are affordable, excellent quality, show quality finish right out of the box, and they balanced with very little weight added. No bad things to say whatsoever with my experience so far.

Description clearly showed 5×4. 75. I received 5×120. Called customer service only to be told “they’ll fit your car”. Of course they’ll fit, however 5×120 is neither 5×4. 75 nor 5×120. 65. They offered to return the wheels but since it wasn’t their mistake, I’d be covering the shipping costs.

The manufacturer told me these wheels aren’t available in a 5×4. 75 bolt pattern and that I was over thinking it. Good to know my safety is top priority. Unfortunately I’ll be re-thinking future purchases with summit racing or race star wheels.

Got these on clearance for a great price. Perfect way to fit stickier tires. While they did fit with factory end links, I changed to shortened links so I don’t have to baby the car over my steep drive and other bumps.

The Race Star wheels are awesome quality well made wheels. Especially at clearance pricing they’re a great deal.

Was a little disappointed there appeared to be “brush marks” or some type of blemish in the finish. The center caps do not quite line up. I also have Race Start 15×10 rear rims that have a much nicer finish and the center caps fit nicely.

When you take a few steps back they look okay. I mounted MandH Racemaster 17×4. 5 tires. The front wheels are much lighter and the stance is incredible. Drives and brakes fine. Just give yourself extra braking room and don’t get crazy turning corners.

Overall satisfied. Might be just a bad batch, but not worth sending back.

Rims are good quality an look good also. I debated on these wheels or welds rims. The only difference I could find between the two are, weld are American made an race stars on made over seas. Also weight comparison their is 2lb each rim difference with the welds being lighter.

Price wise the race stars are half price compaired to the race stars. I was really for the American made welds than a buddy of mine said most of the cars are from over seas. With that being said I choose the race stars an used the rest of the money on new slicks.

Oh an the 8lb total between the wheels, I just lost 8lbs of my body weight. Lol.

Good wheels- I bought the 15 x 8 rears with the 17 x 7 fronts. Have Mickey Thompson 255 -60- 15 drag radial on the rear and Kelley Edge 225-60-17 street tires on the front. Saved about 10 pounds total on the rear and 20 pounds on the front.

My black 2013 GT gets lots of of compliments with these wheels. Had shop mount the wheels on the rims but mounted them on the car myself because those air wrenches are abusive on mag type lug nuts,. Only complaint is I wish they weren’t quite as offset and were chrome but the polished may be more chip resistant as the chrome on the lugs has started to chip somewhat.

Otherwise great set-up.

Packaging and finish were perfect. Light weight for the size. Low cost. Aggressive offset and design. Looks great on Mustangs, but I used this on my 2020 Explorer ST, as that uses the same bolt pattern and accepts similar offsets as the S550 Mustang.

Haven’t found a better quality wheel with similar aggressive design/fitment in the price range.

I recently purchased a 2018 Mustang GT 6-spd. The car is a base model, with the only modification being a set of hideous 20″ wheels, and what I can only imagine were the cheapest set of tires on the planet.

Immediately after purchasing the vehicle I started looking for replacements, and came across these wheels. I purchased 20 x 9. 5’s for the front and 20 x 10. 5’s for the rear. The fit is very flush and they look terrific on the car.

Installation took me less than an hour with a jack, jack stands, and the appropriate tools.

The pictures of these rims on the website do not come close to doing them justice. They look absolutely stunning on the car. I picked up a set of 20” rims and paired them with a set of BF Goodrich All season tires.

Put 305’s on the back and 285’s on the front. They really helped fill up the wheel wells and do not rub at all. Hats off to the customer service people at the call center, they probably spent close to 2 hours on the phone with me over about 6 phone calls to check pricing and figment.

Getting these wheels with tires mounted and balanced is a huge convenience. I bought these wheels to handle all of the added power from my supercharger, and I haven’t had too much of an issue with fishtailing.

I’ve received many compliments on these wheels. They have their own look and design which I love. They’re not the same as all the other black wheels on Mustangs out there. Part of the fun of these cars is making them look and ride how you want.

Order a set of RTR Tech Mesh Satin Charcoal Wheels. The front ones came correct. The rear 19×10. 5 came boxed as “Dark Gun Metal” instead of Satin Charcoal. They gave me a RMA and resent the wrong ones again.

The rears are bit darker shade then the front 19×9. 5’s came with set. The rear SKU seems correct so I’ve been told this is a warehouse issue. The center caps also don’t match the front 19×9. 5 as there are slight differences.

I’ll update the review after I get my third set that I have to wait another 3-5 days for. I was told they do not have accommodations in shipping speed even if it is their mistake. American Muscle is really spoiling me and my son’s Mustang build that started off so fun.

Ordered a set of these wheels been wanting them for a long time. I ordered (2) 20×9. 5 and (2) 20×10. 5 satin charcoal they come in and i had 3 20×9. 5 and one 20×10. 5 and only one was the right color.

American muscle shipped out the 2 20×10. 5 i just got them today and theyre the wrong color. Nothing against AM but this was to much of a hassle just to get the colors right so im returning them all which is unfortunate cause i really like these wheels just not enough to try to get them right a 3rd time.

I was among the first to purchase these; right from RTR. They are fairly light, look amazing and just clean up the car so well. Furthermore, they have great clearance for the brakes, and are very easy to clean compared to OEM Performance Pack wheels.

Looks fantastic!!! Wanted to try something different besides the RTR Tech 7 wheels which everyone does. Just need some supporting exterior mods and suspension work and the stang will be looking good!!!.

Bought the 20×9 for the front and 20×10 for the rears as well as 275/35-20 and 305/35-20 for the rears and they fit perfectly. Everywhere I go, everyone asks “what wheels are those?!” get a lot of compliments.

I love the fitment of these wheels, I haven’t seen many s197’s with this setup and I also went with a 255 up front and a 295 in the rear and it looks amazing.

Perfect size and backspacing for my 315x35x20 tires. Looks great, nice quality, reasonably priced, a pain in the neck to clean but they all are.

I have a set of these on the back and the 9. 5 on the front. I wrapped them in Michelin Cup 2’s. 265/35r20 in the front and 325/30r20 in the back. they fit without any modification at all. I am also lowered using the M-5300-L springs.

Great looking wheels. Mounted them with 275/40-19’s, and they were about 6 lbs lighter per corner than my stock 18×8 wheels with 235’s. Note that if running the 19×9. 5 square, you will need a small spacer for clearance up front.

5mm seems to work.

Bought these as a birthday gift to myself. Been wanting to change the wheels since i bought this new to me 2017 GT. I couldnt be happier. The charcoal color looks fantastic against the Ingot Silver. AM did the install, had a couple of hiccups with it.

1 – They forgot the Activation tool in my order, was informed that will be 5-7 business days before it ships. Disappointing, not end of world. 2 – After putting the new shoes on the car, i got to last one and realized they mounted one of the tires incorrecly.

This annoyed me, cause now I need to locate a reputable shop that will not bang up my brand new spanking wheels. HOWEVER after contacting AM for a 2nd time in reference to this, there was no hesitation.

AM stated find a shop to remount and balance in my area and submit the receipt and they will reimburse me for it. All in all, very pleased with the new wheels and how they look. 275/40 in front, and because they didnt have 4 of those, I went with the 285/35 in rear.

They do come out a bit more than i would like in the rear, but I can live with it for a while. Up next Lowering Springs to close up that fender gap.

I ordered these and they were at my door In 3 days. I loaded all 4 boxes into the car and went to the tire shop to get them put on. Me and the employees there inspected them straight out of the box. They were in perfect condition and packaged very well with a blue film over the rim itself, and then two layers of foam over that.

Very happy with the speed in which they came and the condition. I had my current tires dismounted from the old rims and mounted to the new ones, balanced, and a new TPMS sensor added for less than 250$.

Quick story before my review. I was originally planning on purchasing the Gen 1 (I guess you could call them?) RTR wheels within the next few weeks. But, a few months ago, AM posted a pic of the RTR mustang on Instagram.

I fell in love with the wheels on that car. After doing a little research, I was heartbroken when I found out that they were made by HRE and ran $1,900 per wheel. So those were out of the picture at the time.

So imagine my surprise when I saw the exact same wheels on AM last Thursday night while doing my habitual browsing through the “new products” page. I immediately called AM the next day with a few questions, and placed the order soon after before the end of the day in order to get them before the stock ran out.

Well, just received them today, and it only took me a few hours to get them on my car (AM was out of the tires I wanted, so had to purchase them elsewhere and get them mounted). Right out of the box: These things are stunning! The pictures really don’t do any justice.

The pics on AM make them look mean, but in reality they are completely menacing. These definitely stand out from the crowd, as they still have the drift inspired style, all while being different enough to really differentiate themselves from the other RTR/drift-style inspired look-a-likes.

For those interested, they have an offset of 33. I purchased four of the 9. 5 and paired them with 255 and 285 Nitto INVOS. The paint itself is flawless (as would be expected from being powder coated), and it definitely looks like they are ready for the long haul (although only time will tell.

They actually do weigh 23lbs (I checked with a simple bathroom scale) which is 5lbs lighter PER WHEEL when compared to stock and the older RTR wheels! In terms of rotational mass, that is insane! I didn’t know anything about flow forming until I came across these, and I think it’s safe to say that they are probably very similar in terms of strength when compared to forged wheels.

These seem to be incredibly well built at a first glance! (again, only time will tell). Overall, everything about these wheels is fantastic. The paint (powder coating), weight, flow-formed, appearance, etc.

I couldn’t be happier with the fact that I went with these wheels over the other RTRs. The quality is that of forged wheels for a fraction of the price. Simply uploading a pic of them upon arrival in the box, as it was dark/raining (finally) by the time I got them on my Sterling Grey.

Planning on taking a good pic of them on the car soon. Thank you AM and RTR for providing us with these truly amazing wheels. My original vision for my Mustang is slowly, but surely, turning into a reality! And these wheels already made it night and day!.

You can’t go wrong with these wheels, for guys looking for less rotational mass and faster ET’s these wheels are perfect, affordable and look great! When shopping for a lightweight wheel the prices can be into the thousands, per wheel.

These 20×10. 5 weigh 24. 4lbs and cost $1,200 for the set of 4! The 20×9 are even lighter at about 23lbs a wheel! You can’t go wrong.

I purchased this wheel to replace a wheel damaged by a massive pot hole. These wheels are on my 2018 Toyota Sienna van and does it look badass. These are beautiful wheels and I constantly get compliments.

These wheels look so good on my 16 Mustang GT. Finish is perfect. Very happy with my purchase. Highly recommend.
