Best Western On Amazon Prime (2025 Updated)

Sixteen episodes are all we have of what critics call the best ever, a western series produced, written, & directed by the great Sam Peckinpaw. Brian Keith starred as a wandering cowboy, his only companion a large scruffy dog, who righted wrongs & thrilled the ladies.

Great actors flocked the series & a chance to work with Peckinpaw. The critics loved the pilot & first episodes. Sponsors lined up. What went wrong?? NBC placed the series opposite “The Flintstones” & refused to move it.

Rerun networks don’t show such short series, so we don’t get to see it, like “Dirty Sally”, a spinoff of Gunsmoke lasting 13 episodes on CBS for similar reasons. Anybody who has copies if this series, please make them available!!! If you see a copy of The Westerner, Buy it while you can!!.

Brian Keith was an excellent actor for that era and I remember watching this as a boy but it wasnt on long and thats a tragedy. ! But Im so glad to get these few episodes. entertaining and engaging for sure.

just wish that they would have kept up the show.

Brian Keith is a good actor, but the plots leave something to be desired. They are bland. The westerner drifts in and out of different situations usually all causing him some problems. Each episode ends suddenly before you expect that it should.

I do not recommend the series.

The James Stewart movie is definitely the best of the four. The other three are more like B movies with A movie actors. With the star level actors and the great supporting actors the other three movies should have been great but they were only OK.

I like the genre so I am still entertained and thus satisfied with my purchase.

The movies “Laramie” and “Mountain Men” were very good. But my taste for the art and appreciation of the stories couldn’t approve of the other two. Nonetheless, it was a fair deal.

Westerns are my nephew’s favorite type of movies. This was a gift and the delivery was timely by Best Buy.

What a real steal. You can’t beat this deal. An awesome action packed western dvd set. It Features some of the best cowboys. Randolph Scott, Joel McCrea, Audie Murphy, Alan Ladd, Macdonald Carey,and Maureen O’Hara are my favorite western stars.

I enjoyed every movie. I highly recommend this product. You will enjoy it.

A Great Collection of Movies-Highly Recommended for all Western Fans

Being the audie Murphy fan that lm I couldn’t resist paying the extra double eagles for this collection and even though l already had one of the titles from a previous set. I enjoyed the purchase. The films are all high quality prints and and definitely less bothersome than buying the titles individually.

Took off a star because the original trailers were not included.

I am a tremendous fan of Audie Murphy and I admit some films are better than others. This collection is quite good and I enjoyed them all. I like his other collection as well.

This cd is a perfect addition to any western movie collection. The movie is in wonderful condition and is virtually new.

If youre (A) a Tom Selleck fan, and (B) a western movie fan, then youll sure cotton to this triple movie collection. As far as this ol country boy is concerned, Mr. Selleck is one of the VERY BEST on screen cowboys since John Wayne.

Tom Selleck movies are full of good humour, plenty of cowboy justice, and all delivered without constant cussin and taking Gods name in vain. I really like Sam Elliots acting too, but his movies remind me more of Clint Eastwoods – too blasted much unnecessary foul language.

John Wayne didnt need to cuss The Lord constantly in order to be the the BIGGEST western star in history – niether does Tom Selleck. Sincerely, Pastor Charles.

Three good movies with Tom Selleck. Hes such a good actor. I think Crossfire Trail was my favorite of the 3 movies, but the other two, Monty Walsh and Last Stand at Saber River were entertaining, too.

These movies are the West! They’re about honest, good, principled men. For me, there only a few Western hero’s, John Wayne, Clint Eastwood, Sam Elliot, and Tom Selleck. I think Tom’s in good company, and his movies are right up there with the Best of the West.

John Wayne was my favorite movie actor since I was a little boy. “The Big Trail / The Comancheros / North To Alaska / The Undefeated” that he played the movies with adventure, comedy, romantic, and suspenseful.

All four movies are very good quality with sound and picture with The Fox Westerns. John Wayne played a lot of Western movies.

As a western film collector I was intrigued when I saw this set. Knew the name Tim Holt but never recalled seeing him in a film. He’s a good looking chap, with lots of curly hair, a better than average actor in films with pretty good production values.

Half way through the set and enjoying the films for what they are – “B westerns” – some with pretty interesting story lines. Someone once said B westerns didn’t die out – they just moved to TV. And I see that in these films.

These Tim Holt films could have been part of his own TV series much like Roy, Gene, or Hoppy. These are good natured films to be enjoyed by anyone who like their action under the open sky, and more often than not, on horseback.

And speaking of horseback – that is one handsome animal Tim rides in all the westerns viewed so far.

Surprised by the quick release of Vol 2 and Vol 3 is rumoured to be out by Christmas!! This batch has two features from the 1943 season with Cliff Edwards as Tim Holt’s side-kick. Then the set turns to the post World War II Holt RKO westerns with Richard Martin as ‘Chito Rafferty’, a character Martin originated in another WAC RKO, “Bombardier”, 1943.

Great outdoor photography in these movies. Look for young starlets, Nan Leslie, Martha Hyer, Carol Hughes, Marjorie Lord, Jeff Donnell, and Jacqueline White, along with baddies like Reed Hadley, Tom Tyler and Robert Bray (the Park Ranger from Lassie TV series).

I am curious to see if the Archive will release the first three RKO post-war Holt’s, which had Zane Grey based stories and have already had public domain type releases from Lion’s Gate.

A great collection of classic cowboy movies with a star of his era just as entertaining as Tex Ritter.

I don’t know why most people hate Wild Wild West. First of all Will Smith as James West his role is funny and enjoyable to watch along with the hilarious Kevin Kline and Salma Hayek they all do an amazing job.

And as for Kenneth Branagh as Dr. Loveless does a great job as a villain. Overall it’s a great movie to watch on Saturday or Sunday morning or afternoon.

Will Smith gets blasted and laughed at over starring in this movie but for those of us who actually like this movie the Blu-Ray version definitely improves in color and sharpness over the DVD version.

I love this movie, even though many don’t. Really pleased to find someone still selling it on blu-ray. Rapid delivery and perfect condition. The decent extras were a bonus!

If you have never watched a western, the Sacketts is a great way to be introduced to the genre! Conagher and Catlow were a fun set to watch, too. Want to see a strong female in a L’amour western? Watch Conagher.

Want a fun western where the lines are blurrred between right and wrong? Watch Catlow. Lovely grassland and North American desert environment scenery in all of these. Great actors, too!.

I have had this on VHS for 20 years or better. The DVD has several clips that are not on the DVD. All of which make for a better movie. The fact that 30 years ago I was a dead ringer for one of the characters has no bearing on this review.

It simply an exceptionally good movie.

Six great movies: Destry Rides Again, The Far Country, Wichester 73, Night Passage, Bend of the river, Tha rare breedfind the movies listed anywhere, so hope this helps. James Stewart always delivers.

The first two movies were fine, but the third one stopped in numerous places. Just cannot seem to get decent dvd’s. Seems they always stop or skip. Great price so is it worth the effort to take it to a store or send it back and pay postage.

Like the films so far, but the discs just skip, very frustrating.

I love to watch the James Stewarts collection of western movies. He is one of the best. Ill be looking for some more western collection.

Because of my nostalgic recollections of Randolph Scott western movies of the 1950’s, I decided to purchase this DVD, collection of four such films. They are “Colt 45” 1950), “Fort Worth” (1951), “Tall Man Riding” (1955), and “Ride the High Country” (1962).

Of these, my favorite was “Tall Man Riding. ” Although they were ranked rather highly by others, I personally found them to be average westerns for the most part. In my opinion, they don’t compare to such great Hollywood westerns as “The Oxbow Incident” (1940), “My Darling Clementine” (1947), and “High Noon” (1952).

It’s interesting to note that “Ride the High Country” (1962) was both Randolph Scott’s and Joel McCrae’s last film.

I am a Randolph Scott fan. I have always enjoyed watching his movies and here I can watch 4 movies for the price of one. His movies always have great actors and a good story behind it and that’s what makes it so entertaining.

I was very pleased with the Randolph Scott collection. As western enthusiast, it was nice to get four good westerns on (2) DVDs featuring Randolph Scott. The product was better than anticipated and just as good as sets ordered at much higher prices.

This is the DVD set for any lover of westerns. All the westerns have some of the best actors and actresses in the business! These westerns take you on a journey through the 60’s to the present! You can see a good Western stands the test of time! All you need is a good story and great acting! All these movies have that and a lot more! You will enjoy watching them over and over again! What is also nice is there are two movies to each DVD, so this saves on your storage space.

There all in one DVD case! If you do not get this DVD six pack, you will be sorry!.

Great selection of Westerns. All in widescreen, especially ‘Geronimo’ which is very hard to find in widescreen. Says closed captioned, but my discs did not have any subtitles. 6 movies on 3 discs, stacked one on top of the other.

Excellent, first movie was Yuma, maybe vintage last seen was 50 years ago. Nice library addition for prosperity.

This is the BEST of all the Western Collections. The box alone is iconic and the disks have little badges for labels. Almost every western you loved is in there. I’ve bought this collection four times for friends and family and they love it.

The set was perfect other than it had 3 discs in the set that had some TV shows that had defective recordings. There was no way I could watch all the shows in that set and try to get a replacement from the manufacturer thru Walmart with-in the 90 day Walmart return period.

But, I feel the set was a bargain anyway because the quality and quantity of TV shows in the remaining set was superb otherwise.

contains TV shows that I never saw even when they were new or even knew existed. Some by todays’ standards have dreadful acting and plots but by and large entertaining.

This are some of Audie Murphy’s great movies. There are others that are just as good, but I really love these movies. And I love to watch Audie Murphy in his movies. He died way to young.

The Dvd’s are in perfect condition, i am very pleased with them, Audie Murphy has been one of my favourites for a long time.

Enjoyable early movies about the West. So far, we’ve enjoyed 4 of the 6 movies. I’m expecting the last 2 will be as good! If you like 50’s, 60’s westerns this is a wonderful DVD set.

I love Jimmy Stewart, Rank him right with John Wayne, Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope. There has never been anything to dislike regarding Jimmy. Could not turn down the 6 CD Package. The sorry note I have , si that I should have had them sooner.

DVD was recorded very well. Fits screen and has good sound. Stewart’s acting is classic – one of the best.

Gave it as a gift and it was very well received. She is losing her sight and likes the old westerns. She says they are easier to see.

I am not very impressed with this set. There are to many Autry shows on here. I won’t buy another collection like this. They lead you on with a couple of big movies and the rest are oldies. I will spend the extra money and buy individual movies instead of having several DVD’s that I wont even watch.

The description of this set is very vague and now I know why.

I gave this movie pack as a gift to our local veteran that only has dvd’s to watch. It’s his generation, so I’m sure he will enjoy them all.

These movies were attention getting keeping my interest and focus during each one. The scenery in all of them is impressive and there is a repeat of the same scenery in some. The drama is always active and free of boredom.

However tense the story may be there will be an exciting victory in the end. The way the lead actor is able to board a horse from time to time is amazing. Great appreciation should be expressed to those who have made these movies available at a remarkable price.

I expected 25 western movies. Example, Superdome is not a western. Also some are part of a series, not movies.

great box set of some of the best John Wayne films if you love him your love these. Ithink that they never age if you remember them first time they can be watched time and time again One of the best ones for me is big jack I just think that when he helps the sheep farmer whos about to be hung and the cattle man asks who are you and he says John Mcclintock he says I thought you were dead and he says hardly you cant beat one liners like that.

The price of the box set was worth the money also was well happy with the speed that it got to me. I could go on about all the films as I love them all ,but that would be left to you each as inderviduals.
