20 Best Wax For Hair Styling (2023 Updated)

For all the hair products I buy. I’ve realised that Keracare is a tried and true brand for me. However, this wax stick didn’t work on my straightened natural hair (4A/4B). It didn’t stick it down, it had no hold.

It made my hair dull, sticky and attracted dust to my hair. Kind of product that makes you need to wash your hair after using it.

This styling wax stick is perfect. It smells good and it works great. It keeps my hair tamed all day long even on hot days. It can be applied directly to the hair or on the finger tips then to the hair either way this works great.

I most definitely recommend this.

I used to use KMS for hair wax for 10+ yrs until they discontinued the product. I found this product and gave it a try. And I was pleasantly surprised. It has a nice light fragrance and has great holding strength.

Definitely serves my needs and I will likely buy again. Only drawback is the bottom is a pushup instead of turn and twist so when applying too much pressure, the wax stick gets pushed down into its base.

But then all you have to do is push it back up.

The product is good, but I was a little disappointed because its qualities are very different from what is advertised. They promise a matte effect, but it leaves the hair shiny, very shiny. They promise total control over the hair, but the correction is not very strong (at least for my type of hair with thick strands).

The product resembles a type of glue and leaves the hair very heavy and gooey. Summary of the work: it looks like I applied a gel. herg. The smell is interesting, but, unlike the other TIGI products I’ve used, it is very strong, persistent and nauseating.

My hypothesis is that it is more suitable for very fine hair, where the amount of product needed is less to provide good control. To raise thick hair, I recommend TIGI Mastermind.

To say that I can’t live without the Bedhead Manipulator is a gross understatement! I have a short pixie cut and seriously love the strong hold of this molding paste! A small dime-sized amount goes a long way and once applied to hair, it’s easy-peasy to shape into any hairstyle.

I wouldn’t recommend this product for those with long, thin hair but if you have thick short hair, then give this a try!.

I love this product and the green one (a matte firmer putty). It isn’t too sticky and doesn’t weight my short thick hair down. I usually go a few days between washes and this product holds so well through those no wash days that I can just finger style in the morning without really adding any more of it.

Doesn’t make my hair dull either, like some pomades.

This product ticked all of the boxes for me. So impressive! My hair is curly on the bottom and more wavy at the crown. As a result, the top of my hair can look flat compared to the rest. Wax works gel has a terrific hold was absolute staying power.

Taking a very small amount and emulsifying on the hands gives me the ability to volumizing my roots. Excellent on fine hair. Great curl definition as well. Pleasant smell and lovely shine. The duration is remarkable.

I can wake up, brush my hair into its style and I am back in business. I have never been able to achieve that before. Too much of this is not a good thing: easy does it to avoid a slightly greasy look.

Less is more; a great bang for the buck. I really like this in combination with wax works flexible working spray.

I love this product and have been using it for years. I’m really happy as well that I can purchase this directly from your company, rather than other online sellers or at a salon. I’ve had problems with those products, whether from being too old or maybe kept in less than ideal conditions, I can’t say for sure, but it effects the wax and it becomes discolored and my hair felt heavy and dirty.

I’ve been using this product since the 90’s. This is the ONLY product that I have been able to use that makes my hair look decent! The frizz is gone, my curls are defined, and it doesn’t weigh my hair down (when used sparingly).

I noticed that it wasn’t available anymore about a year or so ago. I’m so happy to see it’s back! Thank you baby Jesus!.

Both me and my husband are very sensitive to fragrance and we have to use things with either no added fragrance or only essential oils added. I dont think I read the ingredients very well or something on this, but I researched waxes and pomades based on the reviews.

So I bought a couple of waxes for him that had high reviews and mentioned the fragrance was pretty low. I have to be the voice for those who have high sensitivities. Maybe we are the only ones, but if there are others – here you go: It definitely has a strong scent for a natural product.

For him, it is not so bad, but on days that he has bad sinus pressure or a headache, he cant use it. For me (and Im not the one using it) if I am having a headache (which is everyday, all day these days) this will not do.

He sometimes has to take a shower because I cannot take the smell. On other days, when my meds work like they should, it doesnt bother me. But, as Im looking for something he doesnt have to wash out because of me, I will say this product is a big thumbs down.

Im very disappointed that a so called natural product has so much fragrance in it. Please, please – if anyone from these companies read comments – take out the fragrance or make fragrance free versions, because the product itself was great.

Not sticky, it held his short hair in the style that he wanted and didnt flake or get like glue. So, if you dont mind the smell, or the dangers of the added chemicals from the fragrance – you should try it cause it works great!.

I was a little skeptical taking a shot on this without actually being able to smell it before buying it. But I read the reviews here and took a gamble. Man, did that gamble ever pay off! I have been using Murrays and Royal Crown for years.

The negative on those are that they are really greasy, hard to wash out and I don’t know what kind of chemicals are in them. Plus, I run a lot and there is nothing worse than getting sweaty greasy pomade on your face and in your eyes.

Not to mention, on hot days, the top of your head will turn into a skillet. Giovanni is all natural and smells amazing. Not tested on animals which is another plus. It holds my hair great for 5k and 10k runs and for just hanging out on windy days.

It washes out easy. I couldn’t be happier and have only been using this since my first can. Also, it isn’t that expensive. Take a look around your local store or salon and see what American Crew is charging for a similar (and inferior) product.

I gave this 3stars not because its a bad product, but because it doesn’t meet the needs that I had purchased it for and because it has silicones. I was looking for an alternative to gel for controlling my edges when i wear pony tails but this doesn’t hold well for that.

After about 2 hours my edges are out of control again. I thinks its the high humidity here that causes this but either way it doesn’t meet my needs. I think this is better for flexible styling if you want something in between a light gel and a heavy gel.

I ran out of gel and conditioner this week and so i used it on my hair while dry and it did soften my hair. It is kind of sticky so I would suggest using a small amount. It reminds me of a cross between Redkin’s Rewind and Hair Grease.

Since it has silicones I will not purchase it again, because I can just use a regular silicone gel with better results.

My hair dresser recomended I try a wax stick for unmanageable fly aways. I have very thin hair but gel only ever seems to strengthen it’s resolve to stick straight out of the side of my head. This wax stick locked my short hairs down! Huge relief.

Then I inhailed. And I gagged. It smells awful — like bad incense. I wish I could return it. I’ll prob toss it. I can’t give it to my friends since I don’t want to smell on their heads either. I need to go wash my hair now.

This stuff is seriously amazing!!!!! I’ve tried alottttt of products that just didn’t work well with my hair when straightening. I have curly hair and straighten a lot!!! This product has made my hair look less dry and less frizzy after straightening!!!!! Seriously amazing.

Don’t hesitate please buy this now! It completely worth it and worth your money. I use it to slick down my lace frontals and slicking down my own 4b hair. You will need to use some from of heat to straighten your hair before using for best results.

Of course use heat protect for your hair!.

I like this product. I have 3a/3b hair. My hair line doesn’t consist of short baby hairs. So I need a strong pomade type hold to swoop my edges. The applicator has a lot of surface area so I get quite a bit of the product on my forehead where there is no hair.

On the other hand if I’m trying to smooth back my ponytail, this applicator is perfect for covering large areas. However I can easily use my finger or small edge brush to get some of the product off the stick.

The fragrance is strong. Sort of fruity. Not a bad scent, but I wish it was dialed back some. It clashes with my perfume. About a hour or so after applying my swooped edges have turned into loose slick fly-always that look greasy.

So unfortunately it doesn’t hold up. Not a bad product, but perhaps better for just smoothing out a ponytail.

I have short to medium length hair (buzzer using size 3-5, bottom-top) which is naturally curly. I’ve been in the pattern of using dry wax to keep it under control. When I opened this product, I was surprised at the texture.

I thought this product going to be another dry wax because it says strong hold. Instead, it is the texture and feel of a lip balm. It goes on smooth, makes my hair feel soft and hold it’s shape all day.

If it gets out of place, I dampen my hands and work it back into shape. At first, I applied it to my hand and then rubbed it into my hair but now, I apply it directly to my hair. No clumps and it easily spreads for a blended result.

The ingredients look natural and it has a pleasant, clean smell.

A little goes a long way, so I recommend using a small amount and building it up if needed. I put the smoothing wax on my palms and then apply to my hair. I like this method over applying the stick directly to my hair because it gives me more control over how much product I am applying.

My hair is very thick, wavy and fine, so my hair can look very wild in it’s natural state. I typically use it to smooth my hair when I pull it back in a ponytail or bun and want to look polished. If I use too much wax, then my hair looks dirty, but when I use it sparingly, my hair looks beautiful.

This doesn’t make my hair hard or crunchy. The smell is kind of earthy to me, but the smell is ok.

The She is Bomb Collection Hair Wax Stick works great in smoothing down the edges around my head. The Wax Stick has a pleasant aroma. The wax stick goes on easy and tame your hair. The wax stick is not clumping or messy.

Great thick big stick, it will last awhile. Don’t use too much or be too heavy handed or your hair will be greasy quick! Great for leave out and tops of wigs to lay them down! Love and happy to support a small growing black business.

I like keeping my hair straight by putting gel on it. However I was never able to find a product that gave me the dry look, which is the look that I prefer. Now I can drive with all my windows down and my hair stays in place.

If you have really thick curly hair, this product takes away all frizz and is super hydrating for your curls! Honestly once you apply enough evenly to all of your hair. you shouldn’t need anymore products in your hair for a couple of days because this seriously keeps all frizz low and makes your curls come out amazing! I have used this products a few times now.

One thing I have noticed though that’s made me stop and take a break from it is that sometimes this beeswax will build up in your hair and scalp and start to make it really dry and flaky☹️! This also irritated my scalp really bad the last time I used it and made it red which made me stop using it for a little bit.

One thing you should definitely look into before buying this product is that if you have any allergies to any tree nuts or peanuts, this cream does contain MACADAMIA OIL! Be aware of that.

It’s black but it goes on sheer. I’ve made my hair greasy from piling on so much trying to cover thin edges. It does smell nice. But it’s not dense enough to cover. I guess it would be ok to do a light camouflage but I’ve no luck with trying to fill in thin spots.

Recently randomly picked this up at my beauty supply store right before doing braids on myself. Love it. I use Murray’s edge control and I was using that as wax to keep my braid parts neat and tight, but I didn’t like how the build up looked and felt soon after.

I also don’t straighten my hair before braiding, and this helped me get those waves I get when I add moisturizer as straight as possible. I also love how it smells! Gives me that fresh-out-the-hairdresser smell.

It’s my first time trying this as I don’t really put much product on my hair. But after having long hair to getting a bob haircut, I purchased this to control the natural waves of my hair. I apply after I shower, and when my hair dries, it’s nice and soft and not sticky.

Surprisingly! Unlike other mousse brands. This is by far my go to mousse. Will definitely recommend this for short wavy hair.

I consulted a hair consultant of Hair MNL (responsive and super helpful, by the way!). The product is super easy to use and WORKS. After applying, blast with your blow dryer and it will set within seconds.

No yucky sticky feeling though and it smells divine! I love love love this – never used mousse before and I’m now a believer!.

I have a love/hate relationship with this stuff! My curly haired clients absolutely love it! But only if they’re straightening or smoothing out their hair. Do not be fooled by the name of this product.

It does not relax curl. All it does is seal down the cuticle to make it EASIER and look shinier when going for a straight style. If you have straight hair to begin with, you can put a pea size amount in your hair and let it air dry or blow it out for a shiny silky look all day.

My beef with this product is that you can definitely overdo it. More than a pea size amount and you’re going to need to wash your hair. I hate to complain about needing only a tiny amount, because this stuff lasts forever, but ever since I felt the drag and sticky mess after overdoing it, I’m hesitant to use it! I haven’t been a huge fan of the Davines styling products over all because of this same problem.

Everything seems to only work with the exact concoction, air temperature, humidity, sunlight and cups of coffee.

I didn’t really like this leave in conditioner. It made my hair greasy and weighed down. I tried using it while wet, dry, and after styling. Even when only using a little bit if product I still got the same results.

If you’re someone who has medium thickness hair, this might not be the product for you.

I have to say I love his product. I love the whole line of it tho. The strong sexy hair with mango extract smells so amazing and I noticed the results after the 2nd wash. My hair feels stronger looks better and smells amazing.

I get compliments on the smell right away. I dye my hair every 6 weeks and this product is a life saver.

I want to love this product because I love every other Sexy Hair product I have tried, but I just don’t. I bought it thinking it was a spray, but its a pump. And a teeny tiny pump at that. I have a ton of hair and need to get more product out than it allows me which is really frustrating.

On a positive note though, it smells really good.

It said it had shine, but there was not any. I only used a tiny bit and made my thick coarse hair feel like I had Kindergarten paste in it. The effect was dirty and sticky hair. This was not the look I was going for at all.

I have used this illuminating pomade for many years. Loved it! Not anymore. Product was unavailable in store and on line. When it returned, I was elated and bought 4. Mistake! The smell is different, the product itself does not have the hold and stiffness it once had.

I have short hair, I like to spike the back and texturize the sides. Well, that isn’t happening any longer. Makes my hair flat. Used to receive comments on how good my hair looked. Now they ask, what are you doing different? Totally not impressed with this pomade.

I was told about this product years ago by my barber. It keeps my hair from poofing out on the side, I work outside a lot and so I needed something with good hold, but not crunchy. I have to recomb my hair several times a day and this product will allow me to comb my hair and not lose the holding power.

It does not have a strong smell to it, perfect for what I need. This was not available for awhile and I could not find anything on the same level. I tried a lot of the competition,s offerings but nothing is the same as the ION texturing wax.

I was introduced to this by my hair stylist friend who put it in after styling my hair in place of good old, traditional hair spray. I was relieved and thankful that I didn’t get the hard or crunchy feeling, but a more textured look and feel.

Doesn’t make hair greasy and really holds style in place as needed without allowing for volume and movement and shine. The smell is incredible, too.

I used this spray after curling my hair with a wand. Never used texture spray or wax before. Unfortunately this did way down the curls, had minimal hold and no volume whatsoever. It started out stickybam firm hold but after it dried it became less sticky and more manageable.

Did not like it, might just try a texturing spray next, NOT WAX!.

I’ll be the first to admit that I was a complete sucker for the gorgeous packaging but looks aside, this is actually such a great dry wax! I think others who might have had a negative experience with this maybe used too much at once.

It is very easy to go overboard with dry wax! I work in sections with this, spraying it pretty far away from my head and walk into it like I would a perfume and give it a second to dry. After I spray it everywhere I want to, I tousle my hair and add more if I need to.

This gives my shoulder length hair so much volume and texture without weighing it down even slightly. I have gotten 3rd and 4h day hair while using this product without my hair looking disgusting, and I have oily skin/hair so that is an accomplishment! Also, the scent is unbelievable!.

Nishamn wax is amazing! Its the only product that actually works in my hair and keeps my styleall day.

I love this spray so much. It gives me hair nice texture and volume and it’s easy to not overdoe. However, the smell is so overpowering that I don’t use it often. The fragrance also lasts a long time and projects a lot.

I like to wear perfume and I can’t wear perfume with this because the fragrance is so strong and does not go away. It also makes me sneeze. Maybe if I liked how it smelled it wouldn’t be a problem but it is not a scent I would ever chose to wear.

I wish they’d make a fragrance free version.

The formula is good at holding curls but honestly the name of the product is very deceiving. This is a wax-like spray and you can’t run your fingers through your hair AT ALL. If you’re looking for a strong hold hair wax that’ll stay put, this is for you.

If you’re looking for a TOUCHABLE, yet strong spray that holds styling – this is a pass.

Nice smell. Overpriced. Does not hold my fine hair well. Tried using a little more but left residue in my hair. Needs a shot of Session spray for any proper hold. Better to use Anti Gravity followed by Night Rider.

I’m always up to try new products but this one was a waste of money for me.

I forget how I discovered this stuff but ever since it’s been a constant in my hair routine. A little goes along way so tread lightly guys! Applying it to mostly dry hair works best. When you apply it to damp hair, it doesn’t really seem to work into the hair but when applied to dry/semi dry hair its amazing.

its that effortless bed head (no pun intended) rockstar looking like you just rolled out of bed and gave no effort to your hair yet it still looks great look. hair stays in place but its still workable throughout the day.

i run my fingers through my hair constantly during the day (nervous habit) and my hair still molds and sculpts back to how i want it. the original container it came in was black with a pop up top that unscrewed i kind of prefer the old packaging better because i didn’t have to worry about losing the lid haha but in hindsight a lot of product would get caught underneath the crack of the lid so i guess this new packaging is alright i don’t know though i still feel like the packaging could use a better redesign but overall this is hands down my #1 hair product I’ve tried a lot of waxes and pomades and this is by far the best I’ve come to find.

byrd is a close second but the hold of byrd can’t really compare to bed head. i just need to find something now to give my hair a little bit of shine and a little bit of hold something to cocktail with this product would be ideal.

After reading the reviews I was hopeful. Turns out its as good as everyone says, it is extremely long lasting as you dont need to apply much for it to work, seems to resist windrain pretty well and keep the shape and doesnt have a bad smell like other hair products out there Washes out with ease when you shower too.

Really really pleased with this product and Ill definitely be reordering. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Its perfect if you want a strong hold wax that maintains texture and doesnt give you a wetgreasy look.

I bought this along with the B for Men Pure Texture Molding Paste. You can tell this is a wax once you get it in your hands. It’s tacky and makes your hands sticky but I love how it’s still lightweight and effective.

Along with the paste this product really helps bring out your layers. However, I suggest washing your hands in between using the paste and the wax because mixing the two may make them flake in your hands.

Either or both may not be good at cocktailing. You will also have to wash your hands once you’re done with the wax. My hair is coarse and thick so I may have to use more than necessary to make sure I get all of the layers in my hair and to help shape it.

The hold is pretty decent IMO. I think I may have to dip into hairspray so that my type of haircut and style really holds. This product is pliable and seems not to build-up at all. A day after using the paste and wax I brushed out my hair and no flakes whatsoever.

I naturally have a really dry scalp so not having to deal with flaking from styling products is a huge plus for me. Overall a great wax that I will never stop using!.

This is one of the better hair paste/waxes I’ve used. The label calls it a “workable wax” and at first glance its really hard white clay substance. It smells clean like a slight citrusy soap, nice and not overpowering shouldn’t interfere with any cologne one might wear.

So even though its hard at first once you scrape some on your fingertips it gets really malleable which is good using your finger tips to blend in your hair. Since I have really curly/wavy hair I comb it through my hair then fluff with my fingers.

My curls stay in control, but remain soft and natural looking. I work out doors , but neither sweat or the elements really affect the hold. Its very long lasting requiring minor touchups through an 8+hr day.

The only downside might be the price which can be $17 or more for a small tub. Still the longevity of it alone makes it worth it. I received this product for free, for testing purposes.

So I received the BEDHEAD B for Men Matte Separation Workable Wax for free for testing purposes. I had tried maybe a dozen different types of waxes as my hair has been different lengths the past few years.

Right now my hair is short so it was a good time to try this product. The packaging was great; nice tin can and plenty of product. It has been in the upper 90’s and into the 100’s and it held up pretty much all day.

It was matte as advertised. It did not have a sheen or was super glossy like pomades or gels. My only gripe was the weird texture dipping your fingers into the product for the first time. It was kind of tough and a weird putty/powdery feeling but a little product goes a long way.

It was not overly fragrant but had a soft smell. just enough to know you are wearing product. If I had the option to buy this again I would and I’d highly recommend it for anyone looking for that matte look with enough hold to last all day (or all night).

Y’know, these hair products are varied and it takes time and trials to find just the right product for you. This product works great for me. My hair is very fine but very dense. By that I mean each hair is silky and fine but there are tons of them.

The liquid version of this is good too but gives a firmer result. I often combine them a bit. A little, like dime-sized dollop works great on my relatively short haircut. Not very expensive and it works well for me.

Don’t get me wrong, there are a TON of awesome hair gel products on the market today. However, as a male, I find myself running into the same few issues. 1. ) Yes, I have thick, Italian hair, but, as a male, I don’t quite need “concrete hold.

” Give us some variety! 2. ) I’m often able to find a decent “hold” level, but I’d simply like to smell like something other than Floral Grace in the Spring Pastures. 3. ) To bring it all together, we simply NEED a solid degree of hold and need NOT smell like 5W-20.

(That’s a solid NASCAR Cup engine weight, making close to 900 horsepower, in case my “man-card” is in doubt.

I initially got this pomade given that I have longer hair, we all get fly always and I wanted something that wasn’t gel and hardening. It lasts long. However, after a while, it seemed to have dried out even after making sure the container was closed.

Maybe I got unlucky with the one that I’ve purchased and should give it another shot. It is a little tough to spread across your hair without leaving a white streak that you’ll have to continuously massage into your hair until it goes away.

Light smell.

I’ll start with the cons (actually con). My hair is really fine and the paste is difficult to apply. It pulls hard, but after it dries it’s easy to run your hand through the hair. I’ve been looking a lot of time for a product that has real matte finish, leave no stickiness and has a pretty nice hold.

I like my hair to be dry because I live in a country that the climate is hot most of the year so it works out perfect for me. You’ll get a high to medium hold. Again, for my short hair it works great.

The smell is nice, not the best I’ve ever smelled in that kind of products. You won’t fall off your feet, smells just nice, Not super great.

This is my fourth hair wax product, and I am going to stick with this particular brand and 60 hold strength. One of the things I love about it that there’s a good balance between flexibility of the hair while not having to worry the hair may change shape.

You can quickly style your hair until you like it and it stays that way over the full day. I find other hair waxes like American Crew’s hold will get weaker over the course of the day so my hair might droop a little (I have a comb over hair style).

Plus I find the ease to wash off the product from my hair and hands a bonus. I remember having to wash repeatedly to get the American Crew Classic smell out of my hair and it takes more effort to get it out of your hands after you’re done styling.

The Blind Barber easily washes off my hands without soap and showers are with much ease.

perfect hold for someone that is constantly running their hands through their hair. and wants to switch it up from the stronger pomades. The medium hold is just strong enough to keep the style I like but not too strong where I can’t run my hands through it.

Smell is great too!.

The container was bigger then i thought it would be, which is a good thing. It looks like it will last a long time if you don’t style your hair much. Shipping was fast. Received it within two weeks. Boyfriend loves using this product.

It makes styling your hair easier. Overall, the quality is good and shipping is pretty fast. Recommend using this producr instead of gel, but it does depend on the person.

Works fantastic with thin hair follicles to not make it seem clumpy or thinner. Adds a volumizing and textured feel without leaving a white residue even if you bump it during the day. If you use enough (I’m sparing with it because my hair is thin and light) it will hold its form throughout the day.

After trying several different brands available in New Zealand and ultimately giving them away, and an added plus is that it smells good in my opinion.
