This is definitely the best sounding practice amp I’ve ever used. The gain channel has several different levels of gain, all sound great. Anywhere from a slightly crunchy overdrive sound to sizzling distortion.

I’ve never had an amp this size handle metal tones so well. The clean channel handles distortion pedals well and maintains the tone of the amp, and if you wanna add a little something extra, putting an overdrive in front of the dirty channel really pushes the mids through.

All very impressive for an 8 inch speaker. The big downside to this amp. is that its deceptively loud. At bedroom volume, it sounds kinda like a shoebox. but bump the volume knob even just a little bit and the full, rich tone punches you in the face, far too loud for playing in an apartment at 10pm.

Kinda defeats the point of buying a small practice amp. The clean channel is even louder than the dirty channel. I’m not knocking off any stars from my review for this however, because it has a headphone jack that actually imitates the speaker response quite well.

So if you wanna play this amp late at night, plug in some headphones or you’ll wake up the neighbors. The only practice amp I’ve ever liked more was the old marshall valvestate, and those are hard to find these days, so this little amp fills that void well.

Absolutely amazing amp. Warm, sustaining cleans that make your playing feel alive. Really responsive, beautiful resonant, the notes seem to sing. It has a bark, though, the dynamic range is huge and when you hit it it hits you back, it’s an amp that can be always teetering on too loud, and which is really exciting to play.

The tremolo is amazing, best tremolo you’ll have had, and the reverb is just great. Real surprise is the power scaling. In 15watt mode, it’s still really powerful. The 1 and 2 watt modes are different tonally but in a great way: they darken slightly, which it is possible to compensate for by adjusting the eq, but both bedroom modes have an amazing chewy, quality, they become a little boxier, but retain all that expression.

If you turn the volume you get a this chewy, midrange-y slightly over driven sound that is so addictive. These two modes make it feel like a compressed, juicy version of the 15/30 watt modes, which are from the same stable but it almost feels like it make this amp into two different amps.

You can get the over driven thing via the 15/30watt modes too, but in that your got a much more open slightly scooped tonality, but still have these unbelievably beautiful mids. For me, playing a tele through this made feel like when you pick up an acoustic, a really good one, that gives you exactly and everything you need.

The only caveat is that it isn’t the quietest amp in terms of noise floor. It’s all valve, literally. So there’s is a noise floor to contend with wide open. BUT the powerscaling options get rid of it, and if you are using this live neither you nor your audience will hear it or care.

It’s so alive that the noise to signal ratio makes the whole thing moot. It’s the amp I’ve always wanted. Also unbelievable service from PMT.

Had read good reviews so decided to give Rockville a try. This amp is bad to the bone. It has amazed me for the sheer output of this thing. Top notch build quality and is very sharp looking especially with power supplied to it bc the logo lights up blue.

Wire connections at amp are very hefty and sturdy and sized accordingly for the better amp wiring kits out there. I bought amp and the Rockville branded wiring kit and am super pleased with everything.

Its a great amp for a low to mid range amp. True the price is a little steep, but there is value in the product. The power and speaker hook ups are all Allen keys, which they send both of the sizes with the amp.

It also can be paired with another amp and made as the slave or master. The bass EQ is the best feature, since it has the built in crossover, it eliminates 95% of the voices and hits the super low bass notes without overheating.

It should be paired with a dual sub box, because it is rather long. But running 0 gauge wires to it is a breeze. I love Rockville amps, and this is my 3rd one. Great quality and not a huge cost.

My son installed my db12 in his Audi Q7 with 12 inch subs. He is rocking hard. You can heard him coming from down the street. As he drives by you can feel the vibration from his truck. The db12 is a beast.

I would recommend this amp to anyone looking for one. Now of course I have to buy another one because my son refuses to give it back to me. His previous amp was a boss 1500 which now rests in the garage.

This little thing sounds amazing! its extremely detailed and clear while still offering a ton of bass with the right enclosure. I went with the Tapered Quarter-Wave Tube dimensions from http://www. mh-audio.

nl/ and while these are not the greatest approach, it worked incredibly well for a first iteration. My only caution is that you will run out of xmax well before its rated power. Keep the volume reasonable and this will serve you well.

I have about five amps and 11 guitars that I use. some are more high end and expensive amps and guitars and some are cheap and basic gear. As far as portable amps, I also have a Fender Champ 20 and an Orange Crush 12.

Similar to the Orange Crush 12, this amp only has basic controls. Which is actually not a bad thing. Very easy to operate. In my opinion, this sounds better than the Fender Champ 20 a bit and is easier to use.

The Champ 20 has some settings you can change. But, nothing really useful in my opinion. The Frontman has very basic settings and it also has a clean and overdrive channel that you can select. It has a pretty good level of sound and is perfect for practice.

You are not be able to add a bunch of effect with this amp to match a complex sound. For that, you will definitely need pedals (delay, etc). But, for a small portable amp, this does a wonderful job. I keep this amp and a basic squire guitar in my office and sometimes when I want to take a break, I play a little.

Even with no one in the office, i never turn it up more than 4 on the volume knob. I think for a portable compact practice amp, this is one of the best at the price point.

Im really disappointed with this amp. I know its not supposed to be super loud because its only 10 W, but I was hoping that the sound quality would be better. The sound reproduction frequencies are all mid range.

Sounds like cardboard. Color is grey. Bass and treble tones are all but nonexistent. The eq is useless because speaker cannot reproduce bass and treble frequencies. The sound is very cheap and does not give a representation of the Fender vibe whatsoever.

You are better off just playing your guitar with no amplifier at all rather than using this, because it make a good guitar sound bad. I equate the sound to that of an a. m. transistor radio. Its really bad.

I actually read some of the favorable reviews on this amplifier before I bought it, and Im seriously starting to think that none of those reviews are actually real. There are better practice amps with better fidelity out there, and I would avoid this one if your ear demands quality sound.

I pretty much decided not to buy this but there was such a good deal I bit. I already had the boss cable for this so I really didn’t pay much. The sound is thin, really lacking any type of bass. I have bookshelf speakers the same size as this that put out tons of bottom end so I wasn’t sure if that was going to be a problem with this.

It’s mostly just screeching treble. Playing with the EQ can help a little bit but there’s only so much a speaker and box this size can do. I found a couple sounds on the brown channel that don’t sound too terrible.

If you’re actually going to put batteries in this and take it in the woods or to the beach or someplace where there’s no power source, it might be something to consider. But if this is just an extra amp for a man cave or a spare room or especially as a first practice amp you’re sooo much better off just buying an 8-in 15-20ish watt practice amp for about the same price after you buy the cable.

In comparison, this thing sounds and feels like a toy.

Unbelievable. This is NOT my Vox AC30, and nor is it my 100W Katana. However, for a package that is powered by batteries and can, quite literally, fit into the palm of your hand, the Katana Mini is simply fantastic.

The amp models are brilliant and the delay (reverb) function is an excellent feature. On “clean” settings the volume of the amp is perfectly adequate and will fill a room with no issues, and on the “crunch” and “brown” settings, the amp was more than loud enough to fill a large room at 2/3 volume.

Whilst I personally think that this is not quite enough for an advanced/intermediate players sole amplifier, I would completely agree that for a beginner, they would need no more than this. Having tried options from Yamaha and other brands, this is firmly my favourite battery powered micro amplifier for any level of guitarist and equipment, the tone is simply that good! The best way I can describe it is this – when I first plugged my PRS McCarty 594 into it, I was vaguely aware that I wasn’t playing through my Vox.

However, after five minutes or so, I had completely forgotten this wasn’t a “real” amp, and had to keep looking down at the tiny box on the floor to believe it! Well done, Boss!.

This is truly an amazing product, the build quality exceeds all expectations, the sound that comes out of this little guy leaves the user in disbelief. Spark stands out from similar products precisely because of the fantastic decision not to install the components in an ordinary plastic box.

I have a suggestion for the future. Consider installing a physical button that could be used to disconnect the battery in an emergency without opening the device. Sometimes when saving a preset from the cloud or from the phone to the hardware position, the device freezes completely.

There is no way out of this situation except to disconnect the battery. If there was a possibility to separate the power supply from the board it would solve the problem. The problem can probably be solved in a new update if the cause of the preset recording breaking and blocking the device is found.

That’s the only thing I would change on the spark, everything else is without any objection. I gave it a lower rating for value for money because unfortunately, in addition to the high price, I paid an additional $70 for tax and shipping.

I installed this amp on my seafox bay boat along with two skar 8 inch coaxials and I am blown away, I am using a fusion headunit, these two speakers on this amp are incredible. It far exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend these items to anyone looking to do a audio upgrade on their boat, I have been using skar audio products for years now in all my personal vehicles which is the reason I chose them for this install.

Sound is just as good as Jl audio without the crazy price tag that comes with the JL name. I have found skars products to be great and work excellent even many years after install. I had some issues before about 4 years back with one of my amps and they where very quick to get the issue fixed and send me a brand new one right out but that was years ago and the only issue I’ve ever had with this brand.

10/10 would recommend to anyone wanting a excellent stereo system to rival JL for a fraction of the cost!.

Skar doesn’t make any junk. My amps work very well and make very clean power. The wattages are not overrated like cheap amplifiers. That’s what I like about them most of all. They’re not trying to sell you garbage.

Their speakers are top-notch as well. Packages came very fast. No complaints whatsoever.

Amplifier performs well; however, with less than a year of use the body and switches of the “marine” amplifier are starting to rust. Disappointed with the “marine” quality. I have a Massive Audio marine amp mounted right next to the Skar which has been in the environment longer and it shows no signs of rust or wear.

Both units are in a sealed compartment with little moisture and the boat has never seen salt water.

This amp has more power than I could ever use! Unless I want the cops to show up, of course. I had a deal drop in my lap I couldn’t refuse. I picked up a pair of JBL PRX425’s and the Crown XTi 4002 was the recommended amp.

Extreme overkill, being I’m not a DJ or musician. I’m just using it for a stereo. Take my advice though and hook up a laptop to this baby. Using the front panel controls is lacking and clunky. Download Band Manager and get lost in tweaking everything from EQ, Crossover, Bridged Mode, Save Venue settings and a whole lot more! I’m extremely happy with the clean power from this amp.

If you have the cash to spend, you won’t be disappointed! Once you hook this bad boy up, get ready. This amp is also 3200 watts (1600 X 2 channels).

Great value for power and processing. Turn the fan settings up in each preset for pro sound use. I have 2 racks of these now and enjoy the power and light weight.

Sound: The sound of a Marshall in all flavors. (JCM, Plexi, and more) Pristine Marshall Clean to Face Melting Overdrive, and everything in between. I love having a Gain control for the clean channel.

I have a TSL head, which will now be my back up head, and love the gain for the clean channel on it. There are those moments when a bit of gain when you’re playing clean, is needed, to accentuate a riff or a phrase.

Plus, having three stages of gain per channel and being able to dial in the gain amount for each stage is a godsend. Those of us, who play through a Marshall, understand and know, there is, absolutely, nothing that sounds like a Marshall, and for all intent and purpose, Rock and Roll was built with Marshall.

Features: For me. one of the most useful features is the 3 stages of gain within each channel, and as I mentioned above, being able to dial in the amount of gain. Yes, I have a thorough pedalboard, and a fine selection of OD/Distortion Pedals, but as with most things, there’s a time and place for use.

I like the direct out line, as I have a solid recording facility in my home, but, at the same time, I’m more apt to mic the amp. Control layout is great, logical, and easily used. Ease of Use: As with most Marshalls, at least the Tube amps, it’s as easy to get great sound, by just turning it on, playing through it.

But, the JVM 410 has much more in it. In my experience, every amp has a “sweet” spot setting for each of the channels. The JVM 410 has, effectively, 12 channels, given the 4 ‘actual’ channels and the 3 stages within each channel, so finding the sweet spot within each “stage”, will take a minute to find the “sweet” spots.

Quality: It’s Marshall Quality. I will, over time, I’m sure, find out the best tubes to use, when the need to replace tubes arrives. Value: Since there isn’t anything comparable to a JVM 410, one can’t really compare.

But I felt the price is justified and of decent value. Manufacturer Support: I’ve only dealt with zZounds and they’re fabulous. The Wow Factor: Obviously, it’s a thing of beauty, but the real WOW is it’s voice in all stages and form.

It is quintessential Marshall sound. Overall: In a nutshell, you couldn’t want more in and from an Amp. Granted, it’s Marshall’s flagship and for obvious reasons. I have waited a very, very long time to acquire a JVM 410, I’ve watched the demo videos over and over and over again, and when done, then thinking, one day.

Well, that day has come. The head sits atop my 1960 speaker stack.

I purchased this to power my Klipsch RF7 iii tower speakers. Though targeted to sound reinforcement/PA use, there is growing interest in this Class D amplifier in the “audiophile” community. The price can’t be beat compared to similarly power-rated amplifiers.

After almost a month with this amp, I am really impressed. While the face and “wings” that project laterally outside the usual width of most 17 inch wide home stereo equipment will push some away, this is partially addressed by options to reduce visual impact by turning off the front face lighting.

The rest of the unit is compact and light, especially compared to comparable AB amplifiers. The connection options are adequate for the home user. The center speaker connect inserts require some ingenuity (twist a screw into the center and pull plug, wine cork style) to remove for banana plug connectivity.

There are very useful dials on the front face for power balancing adjustments and crossover options are accessed by digital controls. How about the sound? I have a mix of old (1980s) and current stereo equipment.

My frame of reference is a mint Denon POA-1500 amplifier (150w/channel, 1986 vintage) and newer Parasound 2125 V2 amplifier, also about 150w/channel. For the same volume setting, the Crown puts out more volume and fills the room more than either comparison amps – no secret with the power rating.

The bass is very satisfying – tight and controlled even at high volumes. The mid range is similarly satisfying, if a bit “clinical” and not “tube” like. The highs are very good at low to normal volume but can be just a bit edgy at higher volumes.

This is no doubt emphasized through my Klipsch speakers, known for brighter highs. Compensation is easy with a small treble tweak at the preamplifier. Overall, this is REALLY a good amplifier and a nice option to keep in my stereo rack to complement my other stereo equipment.

Let me start off by saying Im a total kicker guy. I have a 10 crt 2ohm dual voice coil in a crew cab Silverado and wanted an amp to really push my speaker to its limits. I figured since the amp is 400 watts rms at 1 ohm and my speaker is 400 watts rms capable at 1 ohm, that this would be the perfect fit.

However, I was disappointed with the bass and power this amp provided. It doesnt have the punch or the deep bass that I know the speaker has. Ive had a system in my vehicle since I was 16 ( now 46) and Ive installed them all, so I know what Im doing and didnt wire anything wrong or not tune it right.

I wired it with 4 gauge, so it has plenty of juice. I should have went to the cxa 800. 1 I guess. This is the very first kicker product I have ever been disappointed in, and Ive had kickers in my vehicles for over 25 years.

Still a kicker fan, but if you are looking to push a 10 at one ohm I would go to the next amp up. I love you kicker, but not happy with this amp. Just my opinion.

The amplifier has exceeded my expectations with it’s delivery of low end frequencies and over all performance. My friends and neighbors had commented on the awesome sound of my new HD system that augments the amazing low end with this amplifier.

The ten inch sub woofer really brings out the full low end frequency response that comes from this kicker amplifier.

Overall: Bias your amp as soon as you get it otherwise the amp is underwhelming out of the box. Set the bias correctly even and the amp sounds the best. The stock ruby tubes are actually pretty good out of the box, I did swap the stock tubes for Tung-sols and it definitely gave alot more sound to the amp that i perfered.

(You can mix and match the power tubes to different types than just the stock 6l6, i find the 6l6 the best for this amp, but el34 are good as well depending on what flavor you want)I use this amp primarily for studio use and it kills 5150 type of amps in versatility.

You can get a plethora of different sounds. This amp does not need a overdrive but it can handle boosts and or overdrives very well. My favorite feature is the gain shaping options to really dial in the distortion character and the boost function is great for adding in a little more saturation focused on the higher mids.

The clean channel is not over looked and delivers the goods. This amp isn’t for everyone some perfer 5150 sounds, this gives you a hot rodded Marshall sounds met with Mesa type sounds and it’s own 5150 type of sounds (but not exactly close but in the ballpark of 5150 style amps).

After putting in the work with a tube swap and a bias, this amp is a monster and has plenty of gain necessary especially when it’s biased even. This amp is assembled in China, but don’t let that steer you away from it.

(Although my footswitch that came with the amp however came defective with a short in the cable where it meets the houseing and would not function without disconnecting the signal from the amp. I didn’t want to return the whole amp after falling for its sounds compared to other amps i have had in my studio.

I contacted zZounds customer service and they were able to reimburse me with a gift certificate to replace the defective footswitch, that’s awesome customer service. )I will say this amp isn’t made for everyone, especially if you perfer straight forward classic 5150 sounds (you may perfer the Randall Diavlo that costs less than this) If you want a Fortin Natas this amp is the closest you’ll get to it with a little over 1/4th of the cost.

I may contact Mike Fortin in the future in the interests of modding it personally to get it closer to the Natas in terms of transformers/chokes etc. , till then this monster of an amp delivers the goods in terms of heavy music live or in the studio.

Definitely made for someone who wants go have the options to tweak their sound and tone. I have yet to have a problem with the amp, my band mates are very impressed with quality of the sound when used at rehearsals compared to their 6505 and mesa rectifier they are used to hearing, and both my guitarists want one for themselves for live applications.

Couldn’t be happier with an amplifier.

I bought my amp used from a different store. So this doesn’t have any negative experience with Musicians Friend. When it arrived the power tubes were broken, glass was everywhere. I managed to get the store to replace the 6l6 tubes with some Ruby Red Grove Tubes.

I wasn’t impressed with the sound at all! After some experimenting with some tube combinations EL34 and KT88’s When I had my 7 string. Now I’m using 6 string exclusivly. I settled on a quad of Mullard EL34’s and haven’t looked back.

I’m running a costume pedal board with a four wire setup. This allows me to utilize both channels with multiple effects switching. On top of 4×12 cab loaded with celestions. A tube screamer in front of the gain channel makes a great metal sound! The clean channel is clear.

Versatile amp. Sounds amazing. I Love it!.

As a guy that’s owned almost every high gain head and still owns a Fortin Cali, a KSR Gemini, Diezel Herbert MK3, a Monomyth Skeleton Key, a Omega Granophyre and a Ultra Lead it holds its own. Does it sound better than those? No I wouldn’t say that but it really isn’t a bad sounding amp and is real close to the satan in terms of tone.

My biggest complaint would be it’s made in China and you can definitely tell the quality difference when it’s cracked open. Not a bad amp for the money though.

I think it will be great; I ordered 3 of these for a church installation in early Dec. 2021. One did arrive. Two are still on backorder as of June 26, 2022. As soon as the other two arrive, I can install all 3 and verify system operation because the installation of just one unit – while possible – is going to be more painful in the long run.

Not any fault of Parts Express; they have been very good at providing updates on the still-out-of-stock status. The other two are due next month. I hope… On a technical sidenote, I did need to re-configure the speaker systems in order to avoid a 2-ohm load situation.

While there should have been enough line resistance to bring the speaker system load up past 2-ohms total (per channel), I decided not to waste the power (around 30% of it!) in the wire itself with such a low impedance (high current) load.

Some power amps do carry a 2-ohm load capability (stability) rating but the GX5 does not. So watch out under 4 ohms or so.

What most dont understand about a power amplifier is by itself? And just music being feed into it? Will underestimate the power ability of an amp like this. But put the Rockville RPA-20 ( pre-amp) in between the music and this amp.

powered by two Rockville SP-9(?) subwoofers and you will knock windows out of place. I use this amp strictly for bass. Nothing more. Although you can. By a switch in the back of the unit. Bring more music spectrum with full range speakers But Paired with this sub bass system I use 2 sets of 2000 watt active PA speakers ( 2 sets for stereo) for the mid range and highs.

Now you really want to blow the roof off a building? The RPA-9 is designed to handle four 8 ohm subwoofers At one time. You double the watt output and double the bass!! My system is considered cheap by standards.

But it will perform with spectacular results if done right. Ive invested around $1,300 in sound equipment for doing amateur DJing. And the system paid for itself in two gigs. And having a blast doing it too!!.

Ive since added lights to the performances a mixing board, two small input mixing boards for another $1,700. All paid for with 3 more gigs. Buy pre- mixed music and you sound like a professional DJ.

I bought this amp because of it’s subwoofer filter which lets the amp only put power into 140 Hz and lower. I thought this would be great, since it’s a bridgeable amp and I intended to use it for a single big subwoofer.

Sadly, I found that this amp even bridged is much too weak to keep up. I think it’s sad that specs aren’t as accurate as in the past. This new amp claims to be 500 watts RMS bridged with 1000 watts peak power, but it behaves like a classic 80 watts.

Anyway, it would be a good amp, if it just had more actual power.

Awesome Amplifier. Output is amazing 👏. Using it with two JBL JRX225’s running at 700 watts each channel at 4 OHMS sounds Incredible. Value and built quality you cannot compare. Little by little I’ve been leaning more towards Rockvilles products, awesome job guys!!.

A lightweight tone monster that gives you all the glassy chime a Vox can produce, at a volume level that won’t sterilize the area around you. Classy looking, and almost loud enough to gig live (but not quite – mic the speaker and you’re good to go).

With the gain at a medium level, cleans morph into dirt by rolling your guitar volume up, even with single coils.

35 years of rock and blues. I have owned many amps over the years and since I no longer gig I currently own 8 amps, all 30 watts or less, all tube. I have a great recording studio set up at home. Without a doubt, my favorite amp to record with is this Vox.

Beautiful clean tones and the BEST over driven tube sound out there IMO. I can crank this amp and my ears do not bleed. It is loud enough to keep up with a drummer so if I were to gig, I would feel fine with it.

If needed I could mic it through the PA. No need for dirt pedals with this but it does take pedals well. A close 2nd is my Fender Bassbreaker 007 combo. Between the Vox and the Bassbreaker I really don’t need any other amps but since the one with the most toys wins.

Let me start by saying I was in the market for what, in my head at least, was a pro quality, top notch amp but with low wattage. Most of the low wattage stuff I had checked out seemed almost like toys and not something fit for discriminating tastes.

They all were a compromise, too boxy, too simplistic(not enough control/versatility), or just plain boring. I just picked this amp up from Sam Ash today and I’m in love. It sounds great with every guitar I plug into it as well as with my pedals.

If you want a decent amount of gain at low volumes you’ll want an OD pedal, but otherwise between the two inputs and the hot and cool modes you can get a tone of tones out of this thing. The cleans are incredible, all that chimey Vox tone you’re looking for.

All in all, you can’t go wrong with this amp if you are looking for a small package with a big sound at reasonable volume. It’s built solid (mine had a little rattle at first but nothing a few tightened screws on the cabinet couldn’t fix) and also comes with a cover and foot switch to go between hot and cool mode.

Anywho, this thing kills it, if you want low wattage without sacrificing quality and still want a pro quality amp, this it it!.

Literally every feature you could want and it RAWKS. I would definitely recommend getting the 5 channel foot switch as well since that’s the only way to engage the built in 6db boost. The clean channel with some dirt in front of it is maybe my fav tone so far.

The reverb is pretty good but the effects loop is great for your own modulation pedals or multi fx. The crunch and distortion channels are both totally useable too. ISF is also usable, turn far right for some good Vox style vibe for example.

The head is pretty heavy but it’s built very well and has a good strap. The the option to run it in 5w mode for home or studio is awesome. Even has a headphone out. All the controls are intuitive, the layout makes sense and the pots all feel pretty decent.

I seriously love this amp, it works as it should and puts a smile on my face with some of the tones I’m getting even after just a couple of weeks. And the price is a steal. I don’t really see where the 100w version would be necessary tbh.

Blackstar made a winner with these MKII’s.

Overall: So, I have been playing guitar for 40 years, always used Marshall’s, So I did a bit of research, And found that 2 guys from the research and development team at Marshall for almost 20 years were trying to make some changes on some Marshall amps, Well Marshall said, “No”, and these 2 guys decided to leave and start their own Co.

Well just let me say, This 50 Watt head, Loaded with British sound and quality, could not be better! So many different features, and options of tone is incredible! Anyone looking to buy a Marshall head for over 2k, buy one of these!! you will not be disappointed! My god it sounds incredible! For under a grand at that!!, I do use a Marshall 1960 A slant cab with it, But this Blackstar is no slouch! zZounds was amazing as always! out of the Box, perfect condition! Thank you zZounds once again!!.

As many have stated, if any amp could be a “swiss army knife” of tone, this would be it. The clean channel is fantastic, and has a lot of tone shaping ability between eq settings and changing between bright and dark reverb.

The drive channel has a lot of variance as well, and can cover tons of ground – anything from blues, classic rock, to flat out metal. Where it falls flat is the PCB assembly. Flux was still all over the board, and solder joints had voids in areas and were very poorly done.

I believe many of the reliability issues others have reported are due to the poor PCB assembly. It’s a fairly easy fix that shouldn’t cost much more than $100 by a local reputable amp guy to redo bad/cold solder joints and strip the flux off the board.

Despite this handicap, it is undoubtedly worth every penny. If you play through one and love it, don’t let this scare you away.

I use it in my small studio along with 8 other tube amps of various makes, models and wattages. I got the blond version of this on a trade. Bone stock. At first I thought I really made a bad trade (traded a Marshall DSL15 with Cannibus Rex speaker) The degree of brightness in this tone stack is over the top bright.

I turned the treble all the way down and bass all the way up. Also make sure you dial in the right degree of gain and volume and it is one of the most addicting amps I’ve ever played. It took me awhile to bond with it.

And it does like some guitars better than others. It sounds great with Fender Hot Noiseless pickups, or any other guitar with a darker sounding pickup. I’m afraid to try true single coils through it.

:-). It does take pedals very well. I’m sure I can tame the highs a bit with a preamp tube upgrade, or possible speaker upgrade. However, the stock speaker seems to be sounding better as it gets broke in.

I want to be careful not to modify this thing out of VOXdom, after all, that’s what it is supposed to be. This being my 1st VOX amp, I don’t have a reference for how a VOX is supposed to sound. I was considering selling this thing, but now am likely to keep it.

It fills a void in my amp tones that I’ve been missing.

This is a great little amp and has been my main gigging amp for the past couple years. It does a good job at keeping up with my band at smaller venues, but I usually mic it anyways. I would definitely recommend giving it a mic anywhere bigger than a small club, unless you play in a more mellow band.

I’ve always been a fan of smaller, low wattage, tube amps with minimal controls and this definitely fits the bill. I wouldn’t really recommend it for bedroom/apartment practicing because it’s still pretty loud and it sounds best when you can really push it.

It’s definitely a very bright amp, maybe a little too bright with some guitars, but there’s also mods you can do to it to change that. I plan on changing the speaker someday, just haven’t gotten around to it yet and the speaker it comes with is decent enough, just a little stale in my opinion.

It’s a pretty rugged little amp, it has spent some good miles rattling around in the back of cars/vans/trailers and i haven’t had any problems with it. Overall a great amp for anyone looking for a simple, portable, low wattage tube amp that will give them that classic Vox sound at an affordable price!.

this amp absolutely nails the classic Top Boost overdrive tone, just in a smaller package. I use this amp in church, and it’s great in that role because it’s loud enough that it allows me to hear what I play without needing a monitor (which reduces overall stage volume).

I found the stock speaker to be serviceable, but there’s plenty of room in the cabinet for a speaker upgrade, just be sure to do some measurements first. I upgraded to a Celestion G12H30, and due its wide magnet, I had to reposition the output transformer a couple of inches.

Depending on how you want to use this amp, I would recommend replacing V1 with a lower gain tube (like a 5751 or 12AU7) if your intent is to turn it into a pedal platform (especially because there is no FX loop).

I’ve also found that cranking the Volume produces a fair amount of gain as well, so if you want to tame the (characteristically VOX) fizz for recording purposes, a lower gain V1 would help in that regard too.

If mic’d up with a PA system or paired with a 2×12 cabinet, this amp could easily be used as your #1 gigging amp. but it would probably be more economical just to get a used AC30C2/CC2 or AC15C2 Twin.
