20 Best Waterproof Sun Shade Sail (2023 Updated)

I first looked at these types of sets two years ago, when they were £699, but they were sold out before I could acquire one. The delivery came, free of charge to the Isle of Wight, on the day we arranged.

The driver phoned me up half an hour before he came, which is really good. The guys carried the boxes onto the patio, so I could assemble it in situ. The instructions said it needed two people to assemble, but I managed it on my own easily.

The only difficulty was that I snipped the webbing holding the glass onto the table too early, which led to a few hairy seconds when I lifted the table into place. I am very pleased with the table and chairs, they look great and they are durable, you wont need to put them away during the winter (apart from the cushions).

I bought a smaller patio table and chair set 9 years ago and it has stayed outside alot of that time and still looks good. Well done, B&Q.

We have recently purchased this set for our new patio. It looks fantastic! It looks more expensive than it actually is. Very good quality. Extremely comfortable. Nice colour and lovely matching cushions.

Table large enough for 6 people. Now all we need is some sun in order to enjoy it.

We bought this furniture set last year, and it has been without fault. It is sturdy and well made, yet lightweight enough to move around. It has been outdoors all winter without a cover, and looks just the same as it did when we bought it.

The quality seems comparable to much more expensive sets I looked at.

Excellent product. I live in Orlando, Florida. I originally purchased this sail 2 years ago to help cut down the heat. Our back yard has a lot of pavement and the summmer heat is to much for the plants and us.

I now own a total of 5 sails in different colors. they hold up well. You can’t go wrong. Thanks shelter logic!.

We bought this item because we wanted shade on our new deck. We had considered buying a parasol, but opted for the ‘Heavy weight Triangle Sun Shade in Terracotta’ instead. We had a bit of trouble installing it in such a way that the sail provided us with shade over most of the deck and during most of a sunny day.

But we succeeded. This afternoon (August 28), it was sunny and we sat down in the shade of the sail. Even though it is called ‘Heavy Weight’, looking up toward the sun I realized that I could not, because the light shining through the fabric was too bright for my eyes.

In other words, the ‘Sail’ did not really provide any shade to speak of. We also heard later from a friend who had sat under one of these sails for a while, that she ended up sunburned, in spite of the shade provided by the sail.

So, we are not satisfied with this product and intend to return it to Home Depot for a full refund of the price, including taxes. Because we live about 2 1/2 hours from the nearest Home Depot (Nanaimo, BC), we do not go to town often.

When we do, we will return the undamaged item, complete with hardware, to your store.

We love this sun shade sail! It’s a great addition to our deck that is west facing. We get all the hot sun in the afternoon and it’s provided some much needed shade for us. Super easy to install. Very durable material.

This was the quality that I was hoping for. Not just the cloth but the hardware that came with it as well. We just had a series of high speed winds and rains come through AZ and this held up with no issues and provides plenty of shade otherwise.

I ordered two because I wanted to see how they went up and what the material was like. We have used similar products in the past. Love these. We will be getting more. The hardware was sturdy, the fabric is perfect and they look great.

It was a lot smaller than 12′ x 12′. My new deck is only 10′ x 10′ and this product didn’t sufficiently cover it. On the plus side, the hardware seems like it’s good quality.

Square fits and serves its intended purpose well, however, had the “tie down ropes(?)” been of sufficient strength, the sail would still be in place. I’m guessing that the breaking point on the provided rope was in the 25# category.

I have obtained some much stronger rope (550#) to use when reinstalling the sail. Had it not been for the quality of the provided rope I would have given a 5 star rating. I will not provide the information requested in #2 thru 6.

I learned about this product and found it available through Bed Bath and Beyond. A store associate helped me make contact with the manufacturer and I determined that the shade sail was exactly what I needed.

By ordering through Bed Bath and Beyond I not only saved 20% off the price but was able to significantly reduce shipping time. The product works well! Reduced direct sunlight and lowered the temperature by 10 plus degrees.

I would high recommend the Coolaroo and as always Bed Bath and Beyond goes out of their way to make every shopping experience a great one!.

We have had a deck for 11 years and seldom used it because of the sun beating down on it most of the day. The deck is 14ft x20ft and the sitting and dining area need to be covered. We didn’t want the expense of a permanent cover, such a retractable awning so I purchased a 12ftx12ft shade sail and it fits perfectly over the area we needed covered.

It also looks lovely over the area and lets in enough light for any potted flowers we have growing in that area. Very easy to install, and we plan to take it down and clean it before winter. Well made with sturdy installing devises to attach.

Box arrived & wasn’t what I was expecting- not sure what I expected but it wasn’t this. It should’ve been more clear in the listing that you need poles, steady structures to hang each corner from & the picture they advertise is NOT what it looks like.

My dads the most handiest person ever & he helped me rig the canopy up above my new deck (he said I should get an automatic awning put in) figured I already bought this let’s give it a shot. Needless to say he rigged it w/carabiners because when it’s super windy it’s a little scary.

One windy day I went outside & one of the attachments unraveled & came off which meant that side of the canopy wasn’t attached. That’s when my dad said screw this & rigged his own contraption w/the carabiners.

Now when it gets super windy I unhook the 2 sides & role it up. Needless to say I purchased this canopy cuz I thought it would be easy to set up & nothing permanent incase I changed my mind since my trex deck is brand new!! Little did I know it was quite the adventure & install- grateful I have my dad to help me because I wouldn’t have been able to do it.

If you don’t have a solid structure to attach each of the 4 sides to it makes it difficult & you can’t tighten it like it says so it’s not a tight canopy. Needless to say I’ve been talking with the electric awning company people about my options lol.

I found these shades at a great sale price, like almost 2 for 1, and I was so very excited about using them in our yard space. Unfortunately we were unable to get the same two-sided, twisted look shown in the promotional photo’s.

If you really look at the photo’s shown, to get the twisted two-toned look, the attachment poles would have to be sky-high!!! My husband is one of those guys who can figure just about anything out, and he did go as high as possible onto our house for an attachment but he was nowhere close to getting the twist effect.

Otherwise these are well-made shades, the buckles are strong and sewn in well. Plus, we received all of the hardware needed to install, less the poles of course. I was actually about to buy the cables and length extenders but they came with the shades! The prices I was getting online for the cabling was half the price of what I paid for these shades.

I would still highly recommend these shades, especially if you can catch a sale price. Even at full-price I would purchase again, just not as quickly as I added these to my cart originally. Great purchase!.

It is a nice, thick material but it feels/looks more plastic-y than I expected. To me it doesn’t look like the pics at all. I was planning to use it on the side of the house where it would be visible and instead I used it in the back because it wasn’t a nice of a look as I wanted.

But again, ti is a very sturdy material and does block a lot of light. Just not a polished look overall.

Changed the look of the deck completely. Dropped the temp, too! First couple of days after installing the sun shade we spent about eight hour each day on the deck. It?s become our favorite place ?in? the house to be.

\n\nI installed it with turn buckles and some \nD-rings. Looks better than the rope that comes with it. Able to get it much tighter, also.

Very well made cover, but be prepared to buy a cable and mounts to secure it. The pieces of rope wont last long term. Great price for the quality of the cover!

Good item, We bought 2 and covers well and easy to install . We get a lot of sun and heat in the IE and this has been the perfect addition to our porch.

I didnt expect these to work mainly because my camera is so old and I wasnt clear on the state of its care, another fear was the film was expired but it was amazing and I absolutely adored the way the pictures came out! I would definitely recommend these!.

I found the film to be too dark outside in the sunlight. I moved the button to lighten ( overexposed) the image which was a bit better. The colours are not very good the roses I took in the picture are an orange-red when in fact they are a deep velvety red.

I love that this film is still available and in production. The colours are unique in palate and a nostalgic blast from the past. A touch expensive at around 17. 00 for eight shots but good to use. Happy experience.

These are perfect!! I have them placed on my back deck and they definitely are good for shade. The only thing I don’t like is when it rains, it comes through. I thought they were somewhat waterproof.

Other than that, I have no complaints.

Picture looked like right angle triangle…. but its not…. made it work. dimensions could be listed in discription.

Great product and great price. Was surprised at how much of a temperature difference it makes. We were able to sit on our deck again in the hot summer after many years of barely using it in the summer because it was just too hot.

This was very easy to hang, I was able to tie two ends easily to posts. For the other side, I attached to a fence with a 4-screw eyepad and used a turnbuckle (looks like a double ended-hook) to attached to that last end.

Turnbuckles are super helpful on any or all sides of a sail like this to get it tighter than you can just with a rope. The fabric is slightly plastic feeling and has a good bit of stretch, so tightening is important.

The fabric filters light but does not completely block it, so you get sun blockage without feeling like you are under a roof. That was nice for giving my patio an open feeling while still providing shade.

Economical way to get at least partial patio shade, but is not a rain shield. This sail comes with double stitched loops and polyester rope for mounting. We did not use the rope because it was impossible to tie, but used light weight chain with snap open hooks for mounting and taking down.

We put 2 eye-bolts in in the beam of the house and one in the post. Study the direction of the sun to determine best placement. Shade is only directly under the sail at high noon. As the sun goes down the shade moves beyond the sale like a sundial.

We used one 12 foot treated 4 X 4 post from Lowe’s for about $12, stuck it in a 18″ hole, filled dirt and a little gravel and let it set up over night. Post hole diggers are helpful. You don’t need to put concrete in the hole because if you ever want to move it, the plug of concrete is impossible to dig up.

This thing just may save you from skin cancer.

Excellent value. They have really reduced the temperature in the patio. Just so you know, the rope on each corner is 20 feet so you will have lots of flexibility. Also, the shape is indeed more like a sail than like a triangle.

Each of the three sides has a slight concave shape.

I ordered a 12ft. Triangle. My deck is 12 x 16. I thought this would give me a shady corner. Going for the 16 ft. Triangle next year. The 12 foot just doesn’t supply enough shade. As far as the sail itself is concerned it is well made, the corners are all reinforced, and the hardware has everything you need and they even give you some options for attachment.

even concrete anchors. Worth the money!.

Well, the shade is up after much ado. The shade is very protective and looks fine. we bought the 16 x 16 x16. not sure if we should of bought 2 smaller ones as this was a bit cumbersome to put up. We used step ladders and secured it to the house over our deck and then took the single end and secured the hardware to a tree however we used a step ladder and both my husband and I fell.

big time hurt, but Praise The Lord no broken bones. Make sure you use a proper ladder, the picture shows a step ladder but due to the heaviness of the sail, we strongly believe you should use a heavy ladder.

We like the shade but found it not such a “breeze” to put up but then again it could be our lack of ingenuity.

Over-all it is a good product and good value…However, the size description is a little misleading. We bought two 12×12’s to cover a 19 by 10 foot area. They should have been long enough with a few feet to spare in all directions, but came up short.

The measurement is from tip to tip, not fabric edge to fabric edge. According to the same logic my height would be measured from my feet to the top of my hair extended, not the top of my head. We had to buy a third 12×12 to cover the entire 19 by 10 foot area.

This is over our pool. it may even be too great of a shade! The pool is much cooler. Tight weave. Water does get through, but gets weighted. We have it at a 2 foot slant, probably should have done a greater slant to allow water to roll off.

Keeps the pool clean of debris as well.

I ordered this Coolaroo sun sail based on the fact that I already had a Coolaroo 8’x8′ roll-up sunshade that is made with high quality, heavyweight woven vinyl. The sun sail that I received failed in two major areas: 1) the way the sail is cut creates big “scallops” in the sail fabric between attachment points, resulting in significantly less sail coverage than expected.

You can sort of see this in the photos where each edge bows in toward the middle. 2) The fabric delivered was very lightweight and “cheap” in appearance. Nothing like my three Coolaroo sun shades which are 7 years old and counting.

I returned the sun sail without even installing it mostly because of the less coverage issue. On the up side, the Fixing kit seemed appropriate for the task and of good quality. Also the price and speed of delivery from BedBath&Beyond was excellent in all respects.

Our neighbors cut down all their trees, turning our backyard from a very shady backyard into a backyard that was exposed to sun all day. During Sunny days, it was too hot to be in our back yard. We saw the use of sun shades when we were in Europe in early spring this year and thought that it might help us to implement sun schades in our back yard.

Well, it was. We are fully enjoying our back yard again thanks to the sun schades. Not only that, the temperature inside the house went down at least 10 degrees during hot sunny days. We love our sun shades and would recommend them to any one trying to create a shady spot.

The sail itself is amazing, have already had one before which lasted 3 years before disintegrating. Hoping for longer wear, but we do have it up from May until October. Once your rings are fitted it’s easy to put up and take down.

On one corner we have 2 height settings to allow for rain. If left up the sail would fill with water, so we lower one end to allow the rain to drain off. Still usable lowered, as shown in pictures.

Not waterproof. This is the second replacement for previous one which was not waterproof. Was told first one was faulty and this one would be fine. Light rain shower and it leaked for all of the seams and the actual material itself.

Very misleading advertising as waterproof. It is not.

I’ve purchased several of these now and they’re great sails. They typically last about 2-3 years in my backyard, which is southwest facing and gets direct hot all-day sun. I leave them up all year, so they’re exposed to all of the elements.

I don’t know how they call this color Beige. It is a faded bright Orange color!! I don’t know how I can use this. Do not trust the color on the website. Only buy it if you like a faded bright orange color for your patio.

This sunshade is made of the most common material used, and is claimed to block over 90% of harmful UV. It is not a shady effect, however, in Florida when the sun is overhead in June. It is still quite bright under this canopy, and you’ll want your sunglasses on.

I have a similar square sail that i had used to cover patio furniture for 10 years, and worked awesome (wish I could remember the brand). I ordered 2 of these to use on the furniture, and they literally disintegrated within 6 months.

At first just the tight corners ripped, and then within 30 more days i had sheds of this material all over my yard.

I was so happy to get some shade I didn’t think it thru. the sun shade is well made and the material looks strong but, I am not about to put screws in my house and I have no trees to hang it from. I guess i should have thought about this before i ordered.

This is a nice quality shade. We had to return only because we needed a bigger one. Got same brand in a rectangle but haven’t put up yet
