20 Best Waterproof Socks For Kayaking (2023 Updated)

After a morning on the bike in driving rain my trainers were sodden and my feet were sloshing around inside them. However, thanks to the Crosspoint WP Sock my feet were still dry and warm, and only needed the dirt brushing off the outside to be ready for their next use.

Unlike my trainers. The socks had done as they promised and were totally waterproof, so all the misery of cold wet feet just didn’t happen.

I bought my waterproof socks for outdoor circuit training (“bootcamp”) in the winter months in Germany, because I didn’t want to buy or own an extra pair of sports shoes. These socks did the job admirably inside my normal running shoes! Warm and dry feet, and no excess of heat at all.

Partner is a walker. Partner walks in the Atmospheric Rivers plaguing the Pacific North West these days. Keeps her feet warm dry and comfy. They are as good as every other review says… 5+ stars!

As a UK mountain biker, keeping feet dry is paramount. Sealskins are the go to brand, but are twice the price. These have kept my feet warm and dry (inside Adidas Goretex Trail runners) all winter riding and I use them at work window cleaning.

The only problem with them is if you do get water inside (running down legs into top of sock) the water will stay in! I was so impressed I bought another pair for my son. No sock is 100% waterproof except a plastic bag maybe? Water will eventually seep in if water gets into your boots, but it takes many hours.

Since I ride only 2 or 3 hrs at a time, this is not a concern. They say not to dry on radiator. I admit I have turned them inside out and dried them out on a warm (not hot) radiator, and have not seen a marked difference in function.

For a cycling sock these sure seem a bit thick. My other cycling socks are paper thin, but still supportive and durable and I was expecting this same fit and finish by an “ultralite” sock, but that’s not the truth of it.

I guess these can’t be thinner than the waterproofing will allow. For a cycling sock you don’t really need that much padding, so I can’t think it would be due to anything else than the waterproofing.

If your shoes already fit “just right”, then these socks might cause them to feel a bit tight.

Bought a pair of these f2 years ago for playing golf through the winter months. Kept my feet bone dry so ordered another pair. Big toe has just cut through one sock so ordering another pair today. Wish I had bought these years ago instead of wasting money on so called waterproof golf shoes which dont work cos the water runs down the trousers onto the sock and into the shoes!.

I got this for my dad for Christmas and he told me he stopped using the gloves because it is not waterproof. He said he wore it while biking in light rain over the holiday and his hands were not dry.

They were frozen and wet. Extremely disappointed, I really wanted to avoid ordering from sites like Amazon and support smaller businesses. Since I have to pay for return shipping, I’m not sure it’s even worth it to return them.

I bought these for my husband. The XL is too small for him so I’m wearing them with liners. I normally wear a woman’s lg. We are ranchers who feed cows in the snow and cold all winter and are always looking for warm gloves.

Wish your sizing was better.

I work outside all night, and it’s usually in the teens (Fahrenheit) or lower during the winter. Sometimes even during the Spring and Fall, especially if it rains. These gloves help a lot, and I’ll recommend them to anyone who works outside.

I expected these to feel like other waterproof socks, like neoprene booties. They feel very similar to regular socks though and super comfortable. Ive tested them at home and they are indeed waterproof but i havent worn them out and about yet.

I am leaving a 4 instead of 5 starts because the top of these dont have anything lining them that may prevent water from entering through the top, hopefully they will just be tight enough. I wear a size 8.

5 in womens and bought a size large so they would be looser, and it fits how i wanted them to. Not tight on the toes, still tighter on the calf. Loving them so far.

I bought these to wear when playing golf in UK winter weather as golf shoes where starting to let in and couldn’t afford the expense of new golf shoes. The socks look good , strange at first when you put your feet in them as the inner lining is thick , feels a bit like putting bare feet in a wellington boot but you very quickly get used to it.

First time I worn them the weather was awful, torrential rain so a very first good test. The results where excellent feet remained dry even after 4 hrs of constant rain and the fact that I knew my golf shoes where both wet inside and out.

Worth mentioning when you finish and go to remove socks the outer layer looks like its wet but don’t worry that natural as the outer layer is cotton, its the inner layer that protects your feet and my feet where bone dry so overall really pleased.

These are very good quality. Look just like dress socks. Would have given 5 star, but they shrink a lot after a few washes so have to buy two sizes up! Have bought several pairs though.

I bought these socks specifically for biking in the snow. Since I wanted to wear normal shoes and not boots. Based on this idea, I have to say, the product works as advertised. My feet are always dry and this includes the bike wash after I get home.

My shoes are always wet after the wash. I only wish that I would have gotten the ‘extreme cold’ version as my feet are still a bit cold. The good news, I have enough room in the socks to wear some thin wool socks under.

I bought these socks for wet weather adventures and they are absolutely incredible. High quality material, really comfortable with form fitting elasticity as they go all the way up to your knees. The thickness at the bottom of the foot is perfect, sooo thick and did I say comfortable.

They stay up and in place also. I truly love this sock set and have put them through the ringer. I bought them at Bass Pro in Bridgeport CT probably five years ago and they show little signs of wear.

I came to the website just hoping they are still offering these and I’m excited that they are. If you are on the fence and wondering if these are good or not, buy them – they are awesome. I only saw three reviews so I want to make sure folks keep purchasing them, so I can always buy more here.

Rain, no rain – a truly great sock.

I used these with a pair of realtree marino wool boot socks in the davidson river N. C. for 3 hours standing in 50 degree water. Feet were toasty, not a drop of water. Combined with a pair of sims flyweight boots.

If you into wet wading small streams for trout. Give these a try, you just might start leaving the waders in the truck. And they have a fantastic warranty.

The socks are obviously men’s socks, but are not labeled as such. Therefore, they are a bit large. I’ll be able to use them, but I don’t love them.

Worked great when my boots flooded while sailing and my feet stayed warm!

They absolutely work! Used them in a recent kayak trip in Alaska where the water is really cold but the kayak had to be accessed by putting feet into the water. They work better than anything I’ve used in the past (neoprene socks, waterproof thick socks).

Only problem is they do run big. I also found they stay up better if cinched below the knees even tho they reach above mine.

I was looking for something to keep my feet dry when entering/exiting my canoe. Often the launches and takeouts are a bit deep or the bottom is really soft, etc. so I wanted something about knee high.

These socks keep my feet dry and fit nicely inside sandals or shoes. Now my routine is to wear these with sandals to launch the boat. take them off in the boat, and put them back on for exiting. These are a nice alternative to neoprene boots, much lighter and more packable.

These are great socks. I had bought a pair of Bridgedale waterproof socks for myself and wanted to get my husband a pair. But I saw these and never tried the brand before. Now I wish I bought these instead! They are lightweight but still feel warm.

Great color and fit (husband fits a size 13 shoe so finding socks can sometimes be tricky). They are also super soft. My husband uses them for winter/hiking. I got them specifically for our trip to iceland where I had issues with last minute snow storms and wet socks in my hiking boots.

We will use these for our ice cave tour.

My first Sealskinz purchase was a pair of these socks, that was around 2019. They are amazing. I wear them in all weather, hot or cold, inside my MX boots. The material provides a nice buffer between the hard shell of the boots and my feet.

I never receive blisters. Thats obviously a side benefit, the true benefit is that for cold riding -18C right up to any warmer temperature, the socks are in my opinion the most versatile baselayer for your feet.

In extreme cold I am typically fine, my feet will ‘feel’ the cold at speeds of 120kph inside my knee high motorcycle boots but I will be comfortable for an entire days riding. I would expect this applies to snowmobiling as well.

My feet never sweat, the socks will also stay fresh for a few days if you let them entirely dehumidify or dry out overnight. I will take two pair on long adv rides as it’s normal to do a water crossing or few during the day, my feet remain dry but the entirety of the boot and socks exterior will be soaked.

I will wash them in a sink and hang them to dry overnight or by a fire or simply lay them out in the sun at base camp while I am out riding in my backup pair. I have been meaning to try it but just haven’t yet, I am pretty sure if you walked into an icy pool of water wearing only the socks I would be confident my feet would remain dry and warm.

I have since purchased the extreme cold full head gaitor and the extreme cold fusion gloves, both of which work as promised.

I have size 7. 5 women’s feet and tried on the size small. I did not find them very comfortable – they feel restrictive. Maybe they were slightly too short, but they also don’t conform to the bend in my ankle/heel or have much give in the toebox and they are not soft.

The feeling is hard to describe but it doesn’t feel like fabric but maybe multiple layers of really densely woven synthetic sock with a non-stretchy core, and kinda sticky. I thought I would only really choose to wear them over normal socks if there was an absolute downpour, and I would still be noticing them on my feet in a sensory way.

The neon yellow color I really like, though, for cycling and visibility. I did not end up keeping them as I tried on a pair of small Dex socks also from REI with wool lining, and they were much more comfortable, foot/ankle-forming and felt almost like normal socks.

There may have been a price difference but if the difference is wanting to wear a sock versus avoiding wearing a sock I think it’s worth it. Granted, I did *not* try these in inclement weather so I can’t speak to the effectiveness of either sock.

We took waterproof socks to walk the Camino in northern Spain. April, cool weather, frequent rain — just the sort of conditions they claim to be designed for. I had a different brand; my wife had Sealskinz.

Both pairs unused, new, pristine. On the first day of soaking rain, my feet stayed dry but hers were soaked. The insides of her Sealskinz were as wet as if she had been wearing normal socks. True, her pair might have been defective, but even considering the mixed reviews here, we’ll return them and avoid Sealskinz from now onl.

They keep my feet mostly dry. On extremely wet days, or when I’m going through a lot of puddles, it struggles to keep me dry. But overall solid. I cold wet days you’ll probably want another pair of socks on under them.

Would definitely pick up again.

After 1 ride there was a hole in one of the socks. after two rides there was a matching hole in the other sock. Super disappointing as my other socks are in near perfect shape after many, many rides.

These are done and dusted after just 2.

These are very comfortable and my feet never get too hot in them. This is the second lot I’ve bought and even though there are cheaper socks around these will last a long time. I have several pairs of cycling socks and eventually they seem to get a worn in the toe area and loose their shape a bit.

But these Endura socks never had. I do only wash them in a low temperature and without a softener but whether this helps I’m not sure. Definitely recommend.

I hiked 610km on an Arctic island wearing these. I wore one or two pairs of merino wool thermal socks underneath depending on temperatures, and trail runners. The system worked perfectly for the mix of wet/swampy tundra, fast broad rivers, and ice/deep snow that I encountered.

A few times water was thigh deep long enough that the socks flooded, but like having a wetsuit they keep your feet warm if you just continue hiking and then dry them out overnight.

These are the most expensive socks I will ever buy. However, I was very satisfied with the performance of these seal skinz on the Pacific Crest Trail. They were able to manage to keep my feet dry despite wearing soaked breathable trail runners for hours while post-holing in the snow through the High Sierras and stepping through shallow snowmelt floods on the trail.

They are very nice to have while hiking in the Pacific northwest for all of the unpredictable rain, wet overgrown plants that hold rain droplets for days, and the cool weather and lack of sun that keep gear from drying.

I was able to hike in them for up to 6-8 hours before having to swap out from sweat buildup. No regrets with this gear splurge.

I ordered these after reading some good reviews. I had planned on using them for backpacking in the winter. I use trail runners, and I thought these might help keep my feet dry in those wet winter days.

I wear an 11 sized shoe, so I ordered a Large sock (appropriate for a 10 – 12 shoe). The fit was so sloppy on my feet. There was way more room in the toes and heels to the point the heel of the sock was going up past my heel up my leg.

I felt like if I was wearing these in my Altra’s my foot would be in there sloshing around inside the sock. causing blisters. So I’m returning them. These might be something I will have to try on in person if I decide to get them again.

This is a great product that I used on a short paddling trip down the Black River in Watertown NY. I noticed that the day was going to be cooler than originally expected so I chose to pick up a couple pairs of these great socks for my wife and I.

They were one of the best choices that I made. I should add that I also purchased the 1. 5mm NRS Hydro Shirt as well. While everyone on the boat was shivering due to the cooler water/outside temperature (which impacted their enjoyment of the ride) we were nice and toasty even though we were just as wet as they were.

I think that the hydro socks are so important to a pleasant paddling experience because the feet are in constant contact with the water. The purchase of both the socks and shirts was a bit expensive but immediately paid for itself when we put our feet in the cooler water and engaged the relentless splashing of the rapids that followed.

We stayed warm the entire trip!.

I wear a size large HydroSkin for my size 8 feet. It felt comfortable without overheating on an eight hour hike in mid 60 degree F conditions. I just wore HydroSkins next to my foot without socks in lightweight approach/mountaineering boots.

The socks were not form fitting in the ankle region and subsequently there was a little extra material bunching there(I was told this is normal by a NRS staff person). I am very blister prone and decided to experiment with these socks and did not prophylactically apply mole foam to my usual blister areas.

Although, I did apply anti-chafing balm all over my feet. I did develop a small blister to the right lateral aspect of my ankle on a steep uphill section of the hike. I don’t attribute this to the sock design, but a design flaw of my feet and other factors.

I am confident if I apply mole foam or duct tape to my feet’s problem areas before my next hike. I will not develop blisters. I am impressed witht the quality and the fit is excellent besides in my ankle region.

I look forward to using these socks on future hikes in cold weather and sloshing through wet areas.

This pair was for my wife. We kayak year round in Florida. Winter paddling can be 36 degrees when you start and 80 degrees when you finish. With launches and our skinny kayaks you get your feet wet. Water temps are nice relative to the rest of the country but 50 degrees seems cold to us.

These socks keep feet warm and comfortable in your water shoes. The bottom of the sock is smooth and does not have any pressure points. Once your feet get wet they stay warm.

Little bit small but very stretchy so not an issue. Excellent quality and good value for money compared to the competition.

Very good socks, nothing more than that. I don’t think they are amazing for the money, but I’m perfectly happy with them.

Very disappointed that these fine socks are thick (thicker than my M&S lambswool socks) and completely unsuitable for their advertised purpose. I can only just fit my Sealskinz waterproof socks over them: with the two layers on they are too thick for wearing inside a boot.

Basically these are ‘socks’, not ‘liner socks’. Interestingly the packaging calls them Solo Merino Sock whereas what I ordered was described as ‘Solo Merino Liner Sock’. Will be looking to return them as not as advertised.

Really like these socks, very comfortable to wear on long walks. They kept my feet relatively dry, only getting a little damp when walking in very large puddles!!

Living in So Cal I had no need to purchase waterproof socks, in the past. But 20 years after purchasing my first Showers Pass jacket, I bought these to keep my feet warm on cold morning rides, or hikes.

That they are breathable means they can be worn when it warms up. Turns out I wear these on road and mountain bike rides when it is a chilly Southern CA morning. The real benefit of wearing these socks is when it warms up, my feet do not sweat.

After any ride, the socks are dry, and do not need to be washed. If anything I will rinse and squeeze them out while in the shower. Showers Pass offers another product that goes beyond what it was designed for, and like their jackets run the gamut of temperature variance while on rides.

After wearing the socks for the first time in a rainy day (mind you, it was not a downpour) in Scotland at the end of the day’s hike my feet were cold and clammy. I thought and hoped it was just the wetness of the cold outer layer, but upon taking them off my feet were damp and as iIinverted the socks to feel if they were wet I was sad to find out that the socks felt moist to the touch.

My girlfriend has a pair of Sealskinz socks and wore hers the first time too – dry and warm feet for her. Besides that, mine smelt foul whereas hers did not. Another remark is that after washing, almost 12 hours later they are still not dry.

how am I supposed to use these while traveling? And onto my final gripe: the toebox is very narrow. I don’t know how anyone can find these comfortable in that area. I live a barefoot lifestyle so I wear toesocks and barefoot shoes.

The Showerspass socks squeeze my toes into a pointy mess. 2 stars because they look cool. Would not recommend.

Bought these hopping to have found the ultimate waterproof socks & gloves. I must say that i’m quite disappointed. I took them out of the box and wore them for a 30km ride in normal intensity rain. After 15km ish, my feet we’re soaked and cold, my hands not as soaked as my feet but still cold.

Maybe I had big expectations towards these products, (in part because of how they advertise it by being both hands and feets in a river?) but they have failed quite terribly and I regret my decision to buy a 160$ pair of gloves & socks.

The quest continues to find good ”Waterproof” gloves & socks, but honestly neoprene socks might be the answer to cold temp.

Having the Lightweight WP Crew Socks, I bought these for the material difference. These are 38% Merino wool vs 81% Coolmax/16% Polyester in the Lightweight WP Crew Crosspoint Camo socks I have. So next to your foot is wool instead of Coolmax to wick.

I cannot feel the difference riding, and after riding MTB or Road both socks are dry. If you are allergic to Nylon then consider the inner layer is next to your feet, the outer layer is Nylon on both socks, Lightweight and Ulta-Light.

I don’t have allergic reaction to Nylon so cannot speak to that. What I can say is the M/L fits my shoe-size 9 feet, and they keep my feet warm on cold mornings, and how they can repel water also means they repel mud when you don’t try to rub it off with your hands ending up working it in.

So after rides you simply rinse and squeeze them out without soap, thus keeping it simple. These are quality socks that make obsolete shoe booties on the road, and also manage to go well with casual clothes I wear with my wife after a walk.

And they look and feel durable.

Used it for the first time during a 5-hour winter hill hike through snow and ice with my Tecnica Forge GTW boots. As we prodded through fields of snow, the snow got into my boots and yet I still feel dry in my shoes.

So, for what it’s advertised, the waterproofing of the socks works. What can be improved is the toebox of the socks as it was too roomy and it’s not conforming to the toes as usual fingerless socks, and thickness of forefoot.

For the 5-hour hike, the part under my toes and my toes were really in pain and felt like I was having blisters ~ which could be attributed to my boots’ footbed, my feet were swelling, the length of hike, the roominess of socks at toe box(?), the thickness of socks.

I’m usually wearing my Icebreaker / Smartwool merino socks for hiking and I don’t have issues with thickness or tightness of socks. Based on this experience, I will not wear this socks again for my hikes.

I bought these after discovering that the original Crosspoint socks are too thick to fit comfortably in my road shoes. These lead to a much better fit and are warm enough as a single layer down into the 30s for my 25 minute commute to work.

The only issue for me is that I need a wide toe box to address a neuroma and these socks are too tight across the toes with minimal flex to be pain free for much more than an hour on a regular road ride.

My feet might have to be a little wet and cold to avoid that nerve pain.

Bought these in April 2022, Great service – 9 days to get to regional Australia. It has only rained once since, wanted these socks as I cannot find a waterproof shoe to suit my situation. The socks worked well, they kept my feet dry, there was some cooling effect though which made my feet feel cool and damp, but my feet were dry when the socks were removed.

The length is great as it is long enough to be fully under the Dictus Foot Drop band I wear. Size wise, they look and feel a bit big, however, once the shoes are on and in use, they are a good fit. As good a product as the first pair of Heavy Waterproof Sealskinz socks I bought for cycling 7 years ago.

I bought these to add to my NRS dry pants that came with ankle gaskets. I use them for paddling surfski type boats where my legs and feet are in water. I loved them for as long as they lasted but after a couple years one just tore with very little tension on it while putting on the pants.

It seemed as though the material had rotted and weakened with age. I may have used them 30 or 40 times in a couple years. They were not impossible to install but not easy either. I will go back to using fabric booties from now on.

I used these dry socks to upgrade a drysuit with ankle gaskets. They were easy to install and should be a lot more comfortable than the ankle gaskets, as well as keeping my wife’s feet dry. The only downside is that they are thick enough that I need to buy a larger pair of paddle shoes for her.

I would recommend talking to someone at NRS about the appropriate size to buy. I initially bought mediums for my wife, but the small size was a better fit.

As far as latex drysocks go this product is completely satisfactory and lives up to any and all claims that NRS makes. However, the bottom line is that latex drysocks just suck in general. They rip very easy and need constant upkeep.

NEVER BUY A DRYSUIT WITH LATEX BOOTIES!!! spend the extra for GORE-TEX booties!!!!!.
