20 Best Waterproof Shoes For Travel (2023 Updated)

Have put about 80 miles on these in mostly wet conditions including heavy rain for hours, slushy snow, and standing in about 2″ of water for 5-10 minutes. Feet have stayed 100% dry. Obviously it’s a shoe so there is a limit in what you can walk through and be dry, but these combined with rain pants or gaiters are all you need for most situations to avoid soggy feet.

My main critique for waterproof footwear is once they do get soaked through, they often take a significant amount of time to dry, but these still haven’t soaked through so I can’t speak to that yet. Owned the previous Konseal in synthetic and wore them until they were completely falling apart at the seams (about 2 years), but still loved them dearly.

Hoping this version will hold up better over time, no signs of cracking or delamination anywhere so far. I think I prefer the old tread pattern but that’s just me, the vibram is still amazingly grippy.

Haven’t used this pair on rock much yet, but the first version was absolutely fantastic for technical scrambles. Assuming these will perform similarly. All while not being out of place at work or going out in the city.

Expensive; yes. But as with most things Arc’teryx, you get what you pay for. Toe box is generous. Usually wear 10. 5-11 size but 10. 5 allows me to wear thick wool socks without being cramped. Because of the long lacing system it’s just as comfortable with thin socks as well.

Highly recommend for just about anything.

Love these shoes. Very comfortable, good on the trail, good on wet/slippery pavement, easy on-off for air travel, not too heavy. Comfortable, stylish enough to wear out with jeans without looking like “outdoorsy” shoes.

These are the shoes I’ve been looking for– versatile enough for the entirety of my short trips where I might be going urban, out on rough paths (gravel, dirt), doing a light hike, out for dinner, etc.

Neither hiking shoes nor city shoes would cover that whole range, but these approach shoes do. After a half dozen trips and multiple hundred hours on my feet, they still look just as good as new (I do wipe them off after trail use).

No obvious signs of wear. Unlike my Arcteryx FL Low GTX (which are also a quite comfortable hiking shoe), these Konseal don’t look beat-up and creased despite my logging MORE hours in them. Generally I prefer non-gore-tex shoes for general wear (even for hiking unless it’s wet-season), since GTX versions inevitably get swampy inside.

If you’re wearing them on AND off-trail like me, you’re going to end up with smelly GTX shoes. These are my favorite shoes at the moment, and I’m trying to rationalize buying a second pair. I wear them on every excursion and trip, and around town at home too.

This shoe fits and feels great! It is true to size and feels very comfortable on the trail and walking over boulders. The grip is great and makes one feel secure with one’s footing. The material is very breathable and the color is great.

The toe area can take a hit and will not hurt one’s toes. The insole also feels very comfortable, I wore the shoe all day and my soles did not feel tired or blistered, it keeps one’s feet relaxed all day long.

The only concern is the laces, I do have to double knot, or else they come undone after extended walking, but once’s tied the shoe fits perfectly and feels secure. I did not worry about it coming loose and possibly injuring my ankle.

I’m Overall is a great shoe to use as an approach shoe and can also serve as a hiking shoe.

I received the xcursion fusions as a replacement for the original xcursions (which i liked but the soles came unglued when they were only 8 months old. ) I wasn’t sure I was going to like the xcursion fusions after reading a few reviews, but living in the Pacific Northwest I like having a waterproof boot option for winter.

Ive been wearing them for a few months now, we’ve had a lot of rain. They are definitely waterproof, I’ve worn them outside all day long in the pouring rain and my feet have remained dry. One review complained that the xcursion fusions toe box wasn’t as wide as the original.

I went up a half size like recommended and they fit like my original pair. I measured the upper width of the toe box, and they are exactly the same width as my altras. My feet are wide across the ball of the foot so I get the men’s.

Xcursion fusions, though still lightweight and flexible are built much more like a hiking boot, than a hightop tennis shoe like the original xcursion was. They have great ankle protection which some people like, and is handy in certain conditions.

I live and work in the woods, in my experience no brand of trail runners hold up well doing homestead chores, certain chores require a bit more foot protection, and the fusions are filling that niche nicely, along with using them as winter hiking boots.

I hike a few trails regularly, where a section of the trail is chunky gravel for three or four miles, which sometimes leaves my feet feeling a bit sore in my other minimalist shoes. Tho one can feel the contour of the ground in the fusions, and the sole is still quite flexible, I’m finding the thicker treads prevent my feet from feeling sore after hiking on miles of gravel.

The tread offers especially great stability on loose down hill trail surfaces. Wet surfaces are so so. A common complaint about Altras, is how the upper material allows the foot to slip sideways on slanted trails (no matter how you tie them.

) The Xcursion Fusions I’m happy to say, don’t do that at all. I’m partial to truly minimalist barefoot shoes for hiking, but Im finding i do like the xcursion fusions boots, both for hiking, and working during the rainy season, and consider them a good compromise between a lightweight hiking boot, and a minimalist trail runner.

I’ve been looking for a zero-drop, waterproof hiking boot for ages now, after my podiatrist suggested I make the switch to zero-drop running shoes — with Superfeet green insoles — last year (I have flat feet/collapsed arches, serious bunions, AND a narrow heel, so it’s hard to find hiking boots that fit well and work with and not against my feet).

Some zero-drop shoes don’t have enough height, after removing the original insoles and replacing them with high-arch inserts, which can aggravate my bunions something terrible. It makes the toe box feel too tight tin general.

But these didn’t have that problem — at all. Based on the reviews, I ordered a half-size larger than I usually do in hiking boots. I’m glad I did, because the toe box was roomy but not TOO roomy — like, add a pair of socks and some elevation, and you realize it’s not too roomy at all — and immediately comfortable, right out of the box.

No awkward pressure, no tightness, and (best part here) SO light and flexible to walk in. I decided to test them out over two wet weekends, in two different terrains: the first, on a flat, but slick/mossy boardwalk, and some light gravel; and the second, on rocky, uneven, wet, and occasionally muddy/snowy trail.

I’m talking lots of wet rocks, with occasional streams of inch-deep water. I was mostly looking for traction and waterproofing issues, which other reviews have mentioned; ironically, the only time I slipped was while walking on the mossy boardwalk, but I figured it would have happened in my Keens, too.

I was super pleased with how these performed on the way up to Lake 22. Normally, after a five-mile hike like that, I’d have more of an ache in my arches/around the outside of my toes. Not so with these! They carried me up and over and down a ton of wet rocks, along with some compacted snow.

Not only did I feel like there was adequate traction, I also felt like there was enough of a “barefoot” feel without feeling literally every crevice of every rock, root, or branch on the trail. I think these would actually make a good transition-to-zero-drop boot.

And while I haven’t tested these yet in a steady downpour, the pair I received at least performed well in overcast conditions with lots of standing water on the trail and wet rocks/roots. If you’re on the fence like I was, I recommend giving these a try! I think they’d make great long-distance hiking boots, too, and might even be a good option for backpackers.

I bought these boots as a lighter and more breathable alternative to the Xcursion Fusion boots that I could wear for casual and blend into trail and range/training usage. These are comfortable boots out of the box and require very minimal break in and are quick to dry when wet.

The speed laces are a very nice touch although the lace themselves could care to be a bit longer. The chevron pattern sole offers ample grip in town and on the trail and the mid height ankle coverage prevents dirt and debris from getting into the boot.

The insole is just a simple flat foam insert. There are a few things I do have to dislike though. The sole of one boot was peeling on one side shortly after I got them, which I prompted to address with some shoe adhesives.

To this day the separated part is still there but they are still wearable. The next issue is the sole. While I appreciate the zero drop and the ability to feel the ground I think these could afford to be a couple millimeters thicker, and especially enlarge and deepen the chevron patterns.

Basically I think the sole could be redesigned to last longer in some way whether it is a change in thickness, sole texture pattern, or a material change or use two materials for the sole to increase the longevity especially at the forefoot area.

Maybe that’s asking too much. Overall great boots for all around usage. I’ve owned these for about 10 months wearing them most days of each week and they still have life in them, although in its current condition I would be a bit hesitant to be wearing them on trails with soft top soil and organic matter or loose fine sediments.

When new, the so wehst shallow chevron texture is not deep enough to provide a solid grip on soft surfaces but it’s ample and acceptable than something like the Xero Denver boots. Most of the time I had Qore insoles which helped with the padding and breathability considerably, as I do hike on harsh hard volcanic rocks as well.

I have worn out 3 pair of Oboz Sawtooth boots, which takes some doing. They were comfortable and lasted beyond my expectation, so I was prepared to like the Sapphire. (Sawtooth was out of stock in my size at the time I ordered.

) I am a little disappointed. They are not comfortable. There are pressure points where the tongue folds at the top of the foot. The heel cup is lower than the Sawtooth and puts pressure on my achilles tendon causing blisters.

Maybe the problem is the size, but I have lost the original packaging and am unable to return as per REI policy. Hopefully after a longer break in period they will become more comfortable. I do like the new, improved shoelaces, though! They don’t come untied as you walk the way the old round ones did!.

I bought these in spring 2020 and have been pleased with them after using them for hiking and heavy work. They had better arch support than any other shoes I’ve tried and they are a touch narrower than MerrIlls and Keens– which is a very good thing for me.

They are unlikely to be as good of a fit for folks with wide feet unless there are wide sizes. Some of the stitching on the nubuck leather by the toe is coming apart now, which is disappointing after a bit over a year.

I have worn the shoes pretty hard, though, so I’m seriously considering getting the same pair again and trying to re-stitch the old pair. I hope that using the old pair for heavy work and other non-hiking activities will keep a new pair lasting longer.

I wear them when I do grounds work at historic sites because I need something non-slip and somewhat protective. They did well on a difficult, Rocky trail with some unbridged water crossings in the smokey mountains.

I resorted to using them in the water because they helped on the very slippery rocks in a swift current. They got soaked because I was in knee-high water, But kept my feet dry when crossing some little mountain spring runs.

I was afraid of getting blisters when they got wet, but didn’t have any problems with that. I wouldn’t want to hike a whole trail with wet feet but am glad that it might be possible if needed.

Today’s one-size-fits all industry standards like small/medium/large and up to extra larges just do not work in clothes or in footwear, yet they persist. So many sneakers of mine are just too long in size 9 or too short in an 8-and-a-half, that I am really happy to have found this shoe to fit my slightly narrower “medium” width size 9 feet.

The support is excellent for indoor concrete floors with industrial carpeting. I’m looking forward to flying to CA this summer and walking in the mountains there. The water resistant soles & uppers with the wide, aerating tongue are perfect for the damp eastern PA climate here at home, too.

My local LL Bean store was key to finding the perfect fit for me, and customer service was excellent.

This is a truly stylish sneaker-like hiking boot that combines fashion with purposeful application. I was hesitant to buy these at first after reading the reviews about poor quality material and the boots falling apart.

But realized all of the negative reviews I read regarded the Gardenia White option. I prefer spruce green anyway since I love colors, so decided to give it a go because of the big sale event at Dick’s.

Worst case, just return them. After hearing folks advise to size up, I did just that. Here are my measurements: – 5’7 height, 143 lbs, normally a size 7. 5 – 8. 5 in shoes. 8 in sneakers. Size 8. 5 was out of stock so the 9.

5 was closest to size. I took the risk and am glad I did! 9. 5 fits PERFECTLY. I feel that these shoes are ideally snug on my feet and I’m confident the snug factor will help my feet avoid hiking injuries.

This is one of those rare instances where sizing up by 1. 5 will do you good. Grab a pair for 80 bucks, can’t go wrong with a reputable shoe like North Face.

I bought these about a month ago to prepare for a trip to Oregon that was full of hiking. 22 miles in 3 days over some intense trails and boy did these shoes do the job. I am a novice hiker and this was the first official pair of hiking boots/shoes I have owned.

I only ended up with one blister on my big toe but it did not hurt and I did not even notice until I took the shoes off. I did size up a whole size. I typically wear a 9 and I got a 10 and they fit perfectly (i have wider feet).

The soles around the toes did chip away a bit but I was not upset about it due to the condition of the trails I was on it was expected. My feet also stayed dry I did walk through some water, my shoes were never fully submerged but the water did come up over the soles momentarily.

I will definitely buy these again once the ones I have now are done for. (side note I wore hiking specific socks one day and my feet moved around a lot but the other two days I just wore some tall socks from old navy and my feet didn’t move around at all).

I’m glad I listened to the reviews and ordered half a size up. This is my first pair of hiking boots, but from what I’ve read about fit, they should have toe room, and the 8. 5 does for me. I’m a size 8 in most shoes, including Asics Nimbus runners, if that helps.

My feet are average width. I’ve worn these boots twice so far, on pavement around town and on trails, even ground and off the beaten path with roots and stones, some hills. The soles are very comfy, the sturdy openings dig into the front of my legs a bit, but only sometimes.

I may need to wear thicker socks. No blisters or scuffs! I love the fossil colour combo and retro vibe.

I’ve had a tough time finding hiking shoes that work for me with the specifications I want. These hit the mark! I prefer trail running shoes as I like light weight and I wanted to love the Salomons but they are just to narrow for me.

These North Face are pretty light but have a tough sole which helps on rocky terrain. They also have really good grip which is something I wanted, as well as toe cap protection. After stubbing my toes a few times in my Brooks trail running shoes I wanted something just slightly tougher that would protect my toes.

They are comfortable as well. I literally went through about 7-8 different shoes until I picked these.

I initially bought a pair of the shoes because they were half off, it was when quarantine started and everything was closed. I ordered 10 pairs of shoes with plans to return everything but one solid pair.

I thought I’d be sticking with the Danners or the Solomons, and while those shoes were nice, the insoles that come with just don’t work with my feet, they have a raised lip on the inside with a second layer that I couldn’t get used to.

The North Face 111’s are no frills but just solid. At any price point there isn’t a low hiker I’d rather have more. While advertised as a trail running shoe I use it almost exclusively for trails, most fairly technical in all weather.

For snow I stick with my mids but for everything else these are great. My feet run warm and in the summer the worked really well. Truly waterproof, though being a low shoe 2. 5″ is about where water comes over the side.

The synthetic material I prefer to leather, which I wasn’t planning on. I like how quick they dry. they can be soaked in the evening and dry in the morning with no special treatment, hard to say that with leather.

REI is great with their return policy, I’ll never buy anywhere else for shoes. I have about 500 miles of trail hiking on the shoes plus daily wear and tear on concrete, which is what actually eats up the tread.

I lost 70 pounds while using these shoes.

Live in Oregon, needed a decent waterproof winter boot, for everyday running around town or play, preferably warm enough to handle a few snow days. The snow seems to be done this winter so I haven’t checked them out in that element but these definitely work in rain, waterproof and grip well.

I wish these were a bit warmer which is why I didn’t give 5 stars, that and the part above the ankle is a bit stiff. But, these do feel like a tennis shoe, light, comfortable enough for long day wear despite my arthritic toes and these look really cool – even in this teal surprisingly.

I got that color because it was on clearance and thought they’d be loud but no! It’s darker than the picture. I wear a size 9 and after reading reviews, bought size 9 Wide. Fits fine with room for a thicker sock.

For the price, I think you really get a great bang for your buck.

My goddaughter in New York recommended these boots after reading very good reviews about them knowing I was struggling to choose new ones. The actual boot is very comfortable and fits well. I was told by a podiatrist to always buy a size larger in a trainer and walking boot so I purchased a 5 although my normal shoe size is 4.

On my second wearing I got a blister on my ankle above my heal, I have very sensitive feet so wasn’t surprised, the ankle cuffs are a little hard. I did however read a review that advised wearers to watch a YouTube video on how to tie laces properly on walking boots.

I found a Trekkit video and was amazed at how differently they advise how to tie laces than I tie mine. I’m waiting for my blister to heal before trying this technique but I’m confident that it will make a big difference.

Overall I think the boots are comfortable, subject to more breaking in, they look good and seem to be waterproof as I walked in puddles without a problem. 10 out of 10 after a few more wears I’m confident.

These shoes have become one of my favorite pairs for general walking in variable weather conditions. I had intended to purchase another brand of shoes, but found they were out of stock. I saw these RedHead X4 Adventure shoes in the store, and decided to give them a try.

Initially, I wondered if I had made a mistake with this selection. However, replacing the insoles with another brand has made a significant improvement in fit and comfort. I am very happy with these shoes now.

I wear them for walking exercise, and in all weather conditions. I would recommend consideration of these shoes.

I got these for Christmas 3 years ago. Probably the best shoe I have ever worn. They are extremely comfortable and that is saying something for my hard to fit feet. Also, they can be worn in both casual and dress situations as they look great for both.

The traction is excellent and are super lightweight as I have also worn them to put out trail cameras in our hunting woods. Your feet will stay pretty dry as well. Wouldn’t call them totally waterproof but that it just because of the low heel.

I will probably get the same shoe again in another year. Don’t pass this shoe up!!.

I bought many pairs over the past 15 years because they are a great shoe. I wear a size 15. And the leadership at Corporate decided to discontinue sizes larger than 14D. Am I the only longtime Cabelas customer that was dissed by this corporate decision!? Corporate can you explain? Not selling enough size 15s!!?? Hurting your bottom line!!?? So sick of corporate greed and quantitative (not qualitative ) decisions.

I love these boots. They fit perfect, are lightweight and are great in all weather. However, I don’t find them easy to put on and do up. They don’t have traditional laces but rather an elastic cord that laces up the front of the boot, around your ankle and then tightens at the back of the boot.

You then have to snap the end of the cord to the boot. It just takes longer and is more awkward than traditional laces. Once you’ve got them on you’ll look terrific.

These were the only black canvas boots I could find online that weren’t in the style/price range of walking boots. They’re nice and comfortable, but since it’s ASOS treat it with the same sort of care you always would – i.

e. they sent me the wrong size which wasn’t a big deal because they still fit (ordered 6, received 7). Overall very nice shoes. Very flat so not good support but lots of room for whatever insoles you may wear.

If you want a very comfortable boot, with a little swagger you cant go wrong with out a pair of Palladium’s. You can walk all day, they are very light and very comfortable. The material is like the material you find on a umbrella so slightly water proof.

The soles are made from a rubber mold. I am looking for another color now. I already had the black.

It does well what it sets out to do: speed hiking on flat-ish trails. The sole is high (almost platform-like), with tapered front — this makes it “roll off” as you walk, propelling you forward. Quite a nice feeling actually.

Haven’t tested the water proof-ness of it, but don’t doubt it with Gore-Tex. The reason it got four stars is because the high sole makes it prone to rolling on its side on bumpy terrain. I didn’t find it super uncomfortable, but it was noticeable enough.

To increase arch support I usually replace stock insoles with Superfeet, but they didn’t fit here because there’s quite a bit of support built into the shoe. I’m using stock insoles and am quite happy.

Used in 25-degree weather and was not hot in them. So overall I recommend unless stability on rough terrain is the utmost priority.

I am a huge fan of Salewa gear, but I’m disappointed in this shoe. Shoe fit me true to size. It’s comfortable enough and was a fairly sturdy shoe. I wore it a good bit for day-to-day use to break it in, along with several runs in the neighborhood on asphalt.

The sole wore out in no time at all — a couple of months — at the strong contact points of the shoe such as the heel end and the ball of the foot. It quickly got to the point where the sole (not that aggressive to begin with) has worn to the point that the shoe is unusable for trail running or hiking.

The choice is now whether to pay to replace the sole on this $175 shoe with high quality Vibram or similar soles, or to throw the shoes away. It’s a shame an otherwise well built shoe is useless because Salway chose a low quality sole.

I’m still a giant Salewa fan and will continue to buy their gear, but not another pair of these.

I chose the Salewa Dropline Gtx because they have all the features I was looking for and were offered here at trekkinn at an unbeatable price. The package was delivered within 3 days, which made me happy (I ordered something here for the first time).

I took the shoes 1 size bigger and they fit perfectly with hiking socks. They are very light and look stylish. Now to the wearing properties: the sole is surprisingly high for an outdoor shoe at first, and I was worried that I might twist my way while walking.

The first time I was worn, I was convinced of the opposite: the shoes are super comfortable – you have the feeling of walking on clouds! And the foot is very stable in the shoe. Running in was also not necessary.

There were no pressure marks or anything else. The laces are exceptionally thin but appear to be of sturdy quality. I tested them on mud, stony and wet ground – great grip! No slipping! A very clear buy recommendation from me! For the shoe and the supplier.

Bought these to replace my old GTX model that had worn out after two years of everyday wear. For some reason the GTX (gore tex) version has been discontinued, or at least I couldn’t find them anywhere.

This model is NOT waterproof. I work as a property manager/groundskeeper, and just walking across the lawn in the morning my feet got wet from the dew. Extremely disappointing. The gtx version always kept my feet dry even if I had to step in ankle deep snow or slush during the winter.

I’m really upset that they don’t make them anymore. I gave these a “fair” rating because they are a comfortable shoe, but the “waterproof” label is a lie.

I have been wearing these for decades. Over the years, the quality has deteriorated but this years pair does seem better than the last couple I bought. The soles are not as stiff and heavy and they fit better.

But there’s still not much cushioning in the sole and the insoles are not removable so they can’t be replaced with thicker ones. I was wavering between giving them 3 stars or 4 and gave the 4 because they have improved them.

So not as good as they were when I first started buying them but definitely improved. I got the rubellite color- a beautiful purple. They fit nicely, are comfortable and water -resistant and are definitely 3 season shoes.

2 Pet Peeves: the boring colors. I miss the huge range of colors and would like to see the cherry red again and I think there used to be a nice rust color and a green color too. The other peeve is the missing loop on the back- it’s still there on the men’s version but was removed from the women’s version.

This one is a challenging one to review. PRO -light in weight (you know how lots of winter shoes are too clunky and heavy and all you want to do is walk around the neighborhood with the dog – you’re not looking for heavyweight hiking books) – the light weight of this shoe is perfect for that -I am sure this suede, like all their other shoes, will hold up and be relatively waterproof -medium padding Observation -This is the softest, lightest in weight suede I’ve ever encountered in one of their shoes.

On the one hand, I love it because it’s light in weight, doesn’t restrict my very wide fore foot BUT the fabric is so light that the back keeps pressing down. I have no doubt these will inadvertently become clogs/mules after a while.

There is absolutely NO stiffness to keep up the back of the shoe – has the rigidity of doublefaced wool fabric at most. -Also because of lack in rigidity in the back, difficult to get shoe on and off I purchased their mules and I found those perfect (but also has the lack of rigidity in the back but at least that one is easier to slip on and off).

I needed a new pair of house shoes, so I looked on Land’s End to see if there were any fun colors. I really lucked out this year with bright Raspberry Slip on Mocs. This pair seems a little lighter in weight than my others, but the color is fabulous !! I have had several pairs of these mocs and always liked them.

I need to wear custom orthotics in my shoes, so the initial fit is a bit tight, but these have already stretched just enough and they are comfortable within a week of wearing. Housetraining Rescue dogs demands quick access to shoes, so I always have a pair of Mocs near my bed for nighttime runs! I love the suede for Winter and the bottom treads are great for small snowfalls.

I have my higher Land’s End boots for the deep ones !.

These are expensive. I normally take a size 6/39 in Clarks or Josef Siebel footwear, and find these are on the small side. I have a regular width foot, so if you have a wide foot or a high instep these won’t be a good fit for you, or maybe you’ll need to half size up.

I like the colour, it’s a little brighter in real life. The soles have a good grip. Laces are not overly long, just right. They are very neat/good looking, with no added bulk that you get with most walking shoes.

I bought them for small walks and everyday nipping around in. I wear an average merino sock with them, not the thick walking socks, so you may need to up a half size. Haven’t tested the waterproof quality, but being goretex they should be fine.

AERIOS FL MID GTX SHOE MEN’S I’ve been wearing Arc’Teryx Apparel & Gear for over 20 years, first time purchasing their footwear. I wanted to wait until Arc’Teryx dialed their Boots & Sneakers in. The Arc’teryx Men’s Aerios FL Mid GTX are nothing but lightweight Mid Gore-Tex Sneakers, and that’s what I wanted.

These are NOT boots! These are lightweight sneakers with slight ankle protection/support that utilizes lightweight and breathable waterproof Gore-Tex. I am looking for and wearing more and more Gore-Tex Sneakers, so the more Gore-Tex to add to my footwear collection the better! It’s nice to have options depending on the season, weather, and temperature to add to my footwear quiver.

You don’t always want to have to wear your heavy hiking-boots that lacks underfoot comfort just to keep your good and expensive sneakers nice and clean and feet dry. Pros: Styling is super sleek as I like.

They come in Black, a must! OrthoLite Insoles. Cons: That I would like to see the Arc’Teryx Designers tweak. I would like to see the midsole have additional cushioning of 1-2 mm in the fore-foot, and 2-3 mm under the heel for needed added cushioning.

The Vibram Megagrip it’s not so “mega”, but that’s fine because I wanted them for every-day use in damp rainy conditions and not to be able to slip on wet tarmac. The Vibram Megagrip is not as aggressive as expected but that’s ok, it will do.

I would also like to see more needed arch support. Also I noticed on the second pair I ordered that the sole and midsole glue was slightly sloppily executed. Sizing/Fitment: I feel they run true to size.

BUT they do run a quarter size long in the fore-foot. I would like to see the length shortened by 2 mm! If you have a mid-volume foot and are in-between sizes I would recommend going down a half size.

I always need and require a performance fit, the Aerios FL Mid GTX have that but I would like to see an additional eyelet on the fore-foot like the climbing laces set-up utilized on the Acrux TR GTX Boots.

Quality: Undetermined. I don’t care about grams, ounces and weight. I care about styling, fitment, underfoot comfort, lockdown, durability, longevity, and most importantly quality! As a Creative Director & Designer I’ve always stated and recommended to corporate, if there’s footwear that’s popular why not make it in two different widths, one Performance Width which is what I need and desire, and one Wide Width to make every end-user happy.

Bought a pair of these under 6 months ago and have worn them almost daily since through a Canadian fall and winter. The good stuff follows. Love the looks, the black on black is easy to wear with any outfit.

Everything about the materials and design is very slick looking. They have been fairly waterproof for water up to about the fourth lace from the bottom. Grip has been decent on ice and wet rocks. Love the mid upper for its versatility, adds a decent amount of ankle support when properly and tightly laced up.

The outer sole seems to be holding up very well for the amount of walking I have done in them. Now the bad stuff. The fit is very narrow throughout the shoe. For me, this is most notable at distal end of the bridge of my foot.

Makes it hard to properly lace it for ankle support and not be crushing my foot over longer distances. This isn’t a huge deal breaker for me as my feet are fairly narrow, so the fit isn’t too intrusive.

But most other people would find this an issue. I have had the same issue many others have had where the inner/medial part of the upper cuff has start to split at the top lace hook. I just noticed it a day or so ago and have tried to patch it using some gear repair patches.

I am in contact with the seller on returning them. The rest of the shoe shows no signs of wear and tear, especially on the scale. However, for the price I would expect them to not have a huge design flaw like this.

Only reason I am looking for a return is that I do not think my repair will hold up over the long-term life of the shoe, something I would expect to be lengthy with the price point of these shoes. In short, these are some great looking, narrow fitting shoes that would be above average overall if there were not some major material failures 6 months into normal wear.

I’ve only worn these twice, once during a 3 mile walk in the wet and mud, across terrain. I wasn’t wearing the best socks however I found these boots really comfortable and suffered no blisters which is really typical for me when wearing new footwear.

My feet kept warm, comfy and dry. The tread worked well on muddy hills, I was able to watch others slip, whilst I didn’t. They felt quite bulky on my feet when I first put them on but I got used to them and actually felt they were really supportive.

Size fits as expected. I’m a 5. 5 but I went for a 6 and they fit fine. I like the look of these but for me the fit is the most important as I really didn’t want to waste money on boots that would be uncomfortable and leave me with wet feet, which they haven’t.

Hopefully this continues. I’m happy with this purchase.

I have been looking for a comfortable and supportive pair of walking shoes and especially waterproof ones. These have not disappointed. Comfortable from the first wear. I’m a size 6. 5/7 and got the size 40.

They fit well but with thick walking socks they are on the slightly tighter side but have not rubbed or anything. If you like thicker socks and a bit of room then you might want to size up potentially.

Great colour in the charcoal; they look nice and not too much like traditional walking shoes. Really pleased with these though and it’s got me out and walking more which is a definite benefit. Highly recommend.

Excellent boots very happy with the product. The staff in the Galleria in Hatfield are superb too, as they were in the St Albans shop which sadly closed. However there was a confusion with the size labelling which needs to be sorted by Trespass.

We bought on line and that had only EU dimensions and we made a mistake. Luckily the shop had the right size so a swop was done. However the size description on the new pair was bizarrely different from the size on the box they came in! This may seem trivial but was unnecessarily confusing.

Of course the solution is to have both EU and UK sizes on both the internet option and the box for the boots and also the boots themselves – and the same numbers !Love Trespass nonetheless!.

I bought the Outline Goretex hiking shoes to use for short distance hiking (< 5 mi), work around the yard, and for winter commuting to work. The Outlines were a replacement for another shoe which lasted had 5-6 years.

My work is in a North East office and I wanted a waterproof winter shoe that did not scream “hiking boot” when paired with dress pants on my way to work. I was excited to find the Outlines as I thought they met all my goals.

They look great and are very comfortable. However, after a short period of use, it became apparent these shoes were not going to last. The sole material wears out quickly and the cloth covering the toes is prone to fraying on both shoes, just as a result of the wrinkle that forms when your foot flexes.

Overall, these shoes are not a good value. They are more akin to a sneaker that you would replace yearly than a hiking shoe.

I bought these shoes as a way to step into a waterproof hiking shoe. I have gone on about 7 major hikes with these shoes and have found them to be very good. Traction is good all around and amazing comfortability.

The waterproofing is decent. Here is the dilemma. If you 100% waterproof a shoe you lose the ability for the shoe to breath. Being said the Outline GORE-TEX falls right in the middle of this. Breathability is ok but not great.

Waterproofing works for any accidentally/necessary step in a major puddle or long hike through rain. If you plan on standing in the middle of a large puddle for a couple minutes they won’t exactly stay dry.

Overall they are great shoes.

I bought these Salomon hikers sight-unseen (meaning I didn’t go to a local outdoor shop, try them on and then go online for a discounted price). BEST SHOE EVER! I spend nearly all of my outdoor time in hiking boots or hiking shoes and was most pleased with these shoes.

Salomon foot products run about a half-size large so I ordered a size 6 and they fit perfectly. Normally I wear a 6. 5-7 but 6 was a perfect fit with a wider toe-box, which I need for my wide feet. Grip was perfect on rocky, tough terrain and my feet were free from pain after 4-6 miles hikes.

Highly recommended! And, yes, I bought another pair of them. Excellent shoe!.

Man schwitzt nicht drin und von außen sind sie gut wasserdicht. Jahrelang habe ich die mehr als doppelt so teure Markenvariante gekauft, dem steht dieser Schuh in nichts nach. Ganz im Gegenteil.

I am a regular user of the X Ultra mid boots, having worn out two pairs each of the X Ultra 2 and X Ultra 3. Note that this review applies to the biggest available size (UK 13. 5, EUR 49 1/3, USA 14), so it may not be fully applicable to smaller sizes.

I have also worn these boots for several months, and they are probably approaching the mid point of their useful life by looking at their soles, so I believe I can provide a good assessment. In my opinion the 4th iteration of the X Ultra is a major step backwards from the excellent previous versions.

The changes seem to be related to the significant weight reduction (488 gr per boot versus 590 for the X Ultra 3), which is noticeable. However, the cost of this weight reduction is huge: 1. There is significantly less cushioning around the ankle, and the boot is also approximately one finger lower.

I continue to notice a slight friction around the ankles on every hike, although less as time goes on. In the first few hikes I stopped several times because of this, and once I even had to put some tissue to increase the cushioning.

To me this makes no sense, as it a significant inconvenience just to lose a few grams. 2. I have to stop and tighten my laces at least twice in every hike, as otherwise the fitting becomes loose. This is new to me and had never happened before.

I ignore the reason but maybe the material has some elasticity in it. Huge inconvenience. 3. The boot seems to have much less torsion resistance than previous versions. I hike in a very stony area, and at least once every day this causes slight ankle twists when placing the boot heel on a stone.

Avoiding this is the reason why I wear mid boots instead of regular shoes, and again seems to be the result of saving a few grams. Overall very disappointed with these boots to the point where I have looked and successfully acquired two more pairs of version 3.

I can not recommend version 4 to any one and I will certainly be very cautious when a (hopefully improved) version 5 comes out. Version 3 was an excellent product, this one is not.

Please keep in mind that I have never used the X Ultra 3’s, so my review is not biased. I am an avid backpacker and have worn many boots in my life. Also keep in mind that I had two REI employees ensure that I was purchasing the right size.

These, by far, are not only the most expensive but also the worst pair of boots that I have ever dawned upon my feet. My Adidas Terrex Swift R2’s that I loved finally died out on me and I decided to splurge on a new set of boots from a “quality” brand.

Salomon’s Ultra 3’s have great reviews, so I figured the new 4’s would be even better. This was not the case. It seems Salomon missed the mark on the skew between trail runner and hiking boot with these, making them not only useless, but actively harmful to users.

I took these on a 30 mile backpacking trip on Isle Royal and now have medical bills to pay directly because of these boots because they caused intense blistering, bruising of my feet, my toe nails are turning purple and will likely fall off, and of course I slipped multiple times on easy terrain due to lack of grip.

Here is a quick summary: Comfort: This is subjective to my feet, but these were a terrible fit. I do not have wide feet, but these run so narrow that they crushed my feet and damaged my nail beds on my long hike.

Also manufacturing quality is low as the right show had a completely different shape, ridges, and size than the left shoe causing uneven wear. The bottoms are paper thin, expect to feel every pebble under your foot.

Support: There is none. The point of a mid cut is to offer stability. These boots have a convenient cutout specifically around where your ankles end up when you are hiking downhill and need stability the most.

The bottom of the shoe is very flexible and unstable. Also the upper of the shoe is very flexible. This results in your foot warping the upper when planted on any incline, and sliding off the sole of the shoe regardless of how tight you tie them.

Grip: I have slipped total of four times in my hiking career. Three of those times were during the 30 miles I hiked with these boots on. The will slip on dry rock, wet rock, roots, dirt, and even mud.

The last eight miles of my hike I completed in my crocs because I could no longer handle the damage the boots were causing to my feet and the crocs had measurably better grip and stability. Durability: Waterproofing failed after about ten miles.

At the end of the 30 miles, noticeable snags int the stitching appeared. The lugs also seemed slightly worn which is surprising since they didn’t grip anything to begin with. Conclusion: I have no idea how it is possible to create a shoe that is tight enough in the forefoot to crush your toes but loose enough in the heel to shred your heels.

This shoe offers the lack of support and protection of a boot while also lacking the flexibility, comfort, and freedom of a trail runner. Truly the worst of both worlds. Again, I cannot imagine a foot type or activity scenario that these would be ideal for.

I’m deeply disappointed that Salomon has opted for perceived style rather than function and that their manufacturing quality has dropped so intensely. I use their products for my cross country skiing antics but will likely be swapping to a quality brand after this experience.

Overall, the shoes perform well for their intended use as light hiking boots. They’re well supported for their light weight, but not something I would use for extended backpacking. I end up doing some walking on concrete (in wet conditions) to get to many of the hikes I take these on, and they do not have sufficient padding to be comfortable on pavement.

Given that pavement is not what they’re built for, I’m not dinging them for that. Other shoes do offer better padding though. The tread on the bottom has fantastic grip, and has served me well in wet, dry, and dusty scrambling conditions.

That said, it does seem to be wearing through a bit more quickly than I’d like for a $150+ shoe. This may seem superficial, but I am really disappointed with the colors. I have wide feet. Not extremely wide, but wide enough that for Salomons, I usually need to pick up the wide-specific model.

I love the look of many Salomon shoe, but for some reason, these guys always pick the blandest ones for the wide fit! I feel like we’re being punished for having wide feet, and there ain’t a darn thing I can do about it! I think the Green Gables color on the X 4 Ultra Mid is one of the best looking hiking shoes in the game, and I actually purchased one originally.

Of course, it didn’t fit because it was far too narrow, so I was consigned to the boring black shoe bin. I’ve been wearing these shoes for three months and, overall, they perform well for light hikers.

They have fantastic grip and effective waterproofing, but durability remains an open question, and styles lost some major points (especially knowing how much Salomon is capable of). Would I buy again? Frankly, I hope not to.

I loved my X Ultra 3 Mid Wide GTX, and I’d like to see a version 5 or 4. 1 that brings better colors, more durability throughout, and specifically longer-lasting lugs/treads underfoot. The new lacing system is good, and I’d like to see it stick around.

If all that materialized (and I mean please, please bring us that Green Gables in wide!), then yes, count me in for another round after the next update. If you’re stuck with the version 4 as is, I’d skip it and come back next year.
