20 Best Waterproof Pants For Women (2023 Updated)

Bought those at the store in Courtenay upon their recommendations and I absolutely love them. May not be as waterproof as some thick GTX for heavy downpour pour “west coast style” but for all season hiking they are fantastic; Lightweight, very comfortable to wear even for running.

Will be a nice extra layer in the evening but so breathable that you never overheat when exercising. And fit in the daypack for the extra layer 3just in case” along with the emergency bivy. Perfect over leggings, shorts or by themselves (may be sticking to the skin though).

Bought these for hiking in Alaska. Thankfully only had to wear them a couple of times, but they were amazing. I’m a solid medium in just about everything (5’8″ 135lbs) and ordered a large to fit over my regular hiking pants.

The large was, well, large, and I probably could have gotten away with ordering a medium for wearing them over top my hiking pants, but the drawstring waist made them stay up perfectly. Waterproof, tear resistant, breathable, perfect.

Really pleased with this purchase. Might recommend ordering true to size unless you plan on wearing them over bulky baselayers.

I’ve had the pants now for about a month and have had them out in various conditions, from light rain to a proper downpour. They are very comfortable, and do a great job breathing during higher levels of physical activity.

The stretch fabric is great, so much so that you can easily forget you have rain pants on. The only reason I didn’t give 5 stars is that there is a slight issue with the DWR in an are about the size of a Loonie above the thigh pocket.

For some reason, there seems to be a lack of any DWR whatsoever there, and they wet-out almost immediately. They aren’t leaking though, but it does completely saturate which is odd as the rest of the pants shed water better than most other 2.

5L garments I’ve had.

I did a ton of research before purchasing these pants a year ago. The worst part about hunting is getting cold. These pants are so warm! I do use 2-3 layers when hunting. Base layer and then sometimes jeans then insulated pants.

I don’t notice that they are loud as others stated. They do have some Velcro on them that can be loud obviously but it’s in spots you don’t normally mess with in the stand. The pockets are handy but the cargo pockets are kinda small (too snug for my range finder to come in and out of easily and not deep enough to keep my phone).

When I purchased these a year ago I was around 125 lbs and got a small. They fit perfect with layers. I’ve had a baby since then and am closer to 145 now and the smalls still fit with one layer underneath but very snug.

I would definitely say size up if you want to layer.

I ordered size large based on the information on the size guide. They were actually too big everywhere but the waist. The waist is adjustable so that worked well but they were way long and baggy. I’m going to send them back for medium as they are pretty comfortable and feel like they would be nice and warm.

I just hope they fit better in the legs because extra room and the legs it’s just going to lower for cold air. They sort of reminded me of camo snow pants.

These outdoors pants are amazing! And defiantly waterproof! I’ve only wore them once so far, as soon as rifle seasoned opened up. It was cold and raining but I was so warm thanks to these insulated pants.

They are a bit long, but with books on you’d never know! Going on a hunting trip up north soon! Can’t wait to wear them up there!!.

If you don’t have muscular glutes, these pants are for you! I ordered these and was so excited to get a great pair lightweight rain pants for hiking. These are absolutely that. They’re lightweight, easy to pull on over boots, and I really liked the zippers up the legs.

I’m rating them 3 stars because they did not fit me at all. Judging by the size guide, I ordered an XL. The pants were enormous – giant waist, super baggy legs, and several inches too long to wear. I returned them for an L.

The L was excellent in the length and the legs but was crazy tight across my butt.

Good rain pant. Lacking features such as pockets, but given the light weight nature of the product, very effective. Purchased for a multiday bikepacking trip, I chose them for the size and weight and truthfully because many other options I was considering were sold out.

While not cycling specific, I found then suitable on the bike with a strap to bring in the extra fabric around my calves. Very comfortable to walk in and around camp. Super water resistant if not 100% waterproof in my experience.

I am a 6ft. tall woman who decided to order the Men’s PreCip Eco Pants Long instead of the women’s PreCip Eco Pants Long as I thought the men’s style may have a longer rise. I wear a misses size 12 -14 bottoms and wear a men’s size medium most times depending on the brand and style sometimes will wear a men’s large bottom.

My waist is 34in. at an 11in. front rise and my hips are 41in. Because I plan on wearing a heavier weight pant under these PreCip Eco Pants Long I ordered the Men’s PreCip Eco Pants Long in men’s size large and found trying them on that the size large for my purpose will be a good fit though they do look baggy-ish that is okay it is not for fashion but instead for freedom of movement and protection.

On the other hand if I were to only wear per se a pair of active leggings or running pants under the PreCip Eco Pants Long I would have ordered a size medium in the Men’s PreCip Eco Pants Long and feel the size medium would have fit okay for my measurements.

I would suggest that Marmot have a longer tie for the inside waistband there is only about 2. 8 in. on each end of inside tie and if you are only cinching an inch or less at your waist it will be difficult to tie a knotted bow to hold the waistband in place.

I would also suggest the ankle leg snap go from the back to the front versus the front to the back because it is ergonomically awkward to reach in that position to snap and unsnap. In addition the ankle leg opening snap itself is close to the edge of the finished garment and it makes it difficult to grip at the snap to snap and unsnap.

My husband and I are planning on bikepacking the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route (GDMBR) next year, the world’s longest unpaved cycling route. My 10 year old PreCip’s had started delaminating, so I definitely needed new, lightweight rain pants but ones that could also add a little warmth, if needed.

The requirements for bikepacking include everything being very lightweight yet with a fair degree of durability. I looked at a lot of ultralight rain pants but didn’t like the lack of features: I want pockets and zippers that allow the pants to go over shoes, and a good elastic waist.

I weighed my old PreCips and was concerned about their 8. 55 oz weight—that’s a lot for bikepacking for a 5’3″ lightweight like myself. In the end, though, features, durability, and the extra warmth they can provide won out, and I ordered them (size S).

Glad I did. The pockets are just as roomy as my previous ones; the fit is the same; the leg zippers generous; and bonus, the weight is lower (7. 2 oz!). Yeah, not a lot of lost weight but significant to me, and with all the important and useful features.

I’ve always found my PreCips comfortable for cycling, and their waterproof quality never failed me. I expect the same with these. (BTW, I’ve noted the fit as running a little large, which requires some clarification.

The waist fits fine. The butt and legs are generously cut, which makes them look a little balloon-y, but they provide moving room. The length is long but not excessively so, but they do cover my shoes a little.

I’m short but have quite long legs.

These are a solid choice for many. Like nearly every garment, this one has a range of usefulness. It’s not for mountaineering and it’s not perfect for cycling. It is however perfect for taking 3 season backpacking for as long as you like.

These were under $100 and have seen many seasons dawn and watched the sun set on just as many. You can hardly beat the features. Grippy cuff, long long long side zips for getting in and out with ease and they are just solid color.

No ski-slope day glo for these understated workhorses. They don’t need attention, they have work to do and do it well they do.

Living in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, we frequently experience serious winter weather. I love the outdoors and won’t be hampered by a little cold and snow. I wear these rain pants over leggings and go out hiking or walking in very frigid temperatures.

The pants block the wind and the snow. I am never cold or wet no matter what. They run true to Columbia’s size chart. The pants are very light weight with a featherweight lining and mesh. I never use the adjustable draw string in the waistband but it’s there if you need it.

I like that you can tighten up the bottom of the pant leg with the adjustable Velcro strap enclosure. If you need to stash some cash, there is a small inner pocket just below the waistband in the front.

If you want to stay warm in the winter, here you go! Columbia, don’t ever stop making these pants!.

I wanted to love these, but right out of the gate the legs from knee-down are way too long (I am 5’4”) and loose and from knee-up way too tight. Usually Columbia’s sizing charts work for me; this time I ordered a size up from what was recommended based on my measurements hoping for a little extra space for better hip movement and a better ability to layer.

Even at the larger size, these pants were so tight through the hips and thighs I was afraid to sit down for fear of splitting the seams. The fit significantly restricted mobility and would be impossible to layer over even a thin pair of leggings.

No way could I have even gotten the recommended size on. I will sadly be returning these and looking elsewhere for a waterproof pant.

Thank you Columbia for bringing back wind pants. I’ve been searching high and low for these pants. If you are like me and hate wearing leggings for walking or running these are the pants we all wore in the 80’s and 90’s.

The pants are very slimming and have the classic boot cut that does not drag. Also, there is a Velcro strap if you prefer the bottom tighter. I love these pants and would love to see them in a classic navy and a gunmetal grey.

I ordered an extra small, and most likely will buy more!.

The seem good quality, and I like the fact that, when folded, and zip up to form their own packaway bag. I’ve had waterproof trousers with a separate draw-string bag, but these can easily blow away on a windy hillside.

My husband is happy with the fit.

I bought these to wear over cycling shorts as I was planning a 14 cycle trip. I wore them a few days and they were great! However I was somewhat surprised that instead of a pocket on one side there was a slit, which gaped when I was sitting on my bike!! Luckily I noticed this before I set off so I sewed it up.

Not sure why it was there. ??? Maybe it wouldn’t matter if you were walking in them. Anyway, hence 4 rather than 5 stars.

Purchased these waterproof bottoms as a quick and easy solution to keeping dry when it rains. Did not want to be in waterproof pants all day and these lightweight over trousers fit the bill in keeping you fully dry in the heavier of showers.

Easy to fit over your pants.

I rely on the quality, simplicity of design and effectiveness of the HH rain pants to keep me dry during inclement weather. I have owned two previous pairs but recently, was unable to get a pair that fit.

The medium size was enormous while the size small crotch inseam didn’t allow enough room for comfort or movement. I may order the medium again and although they are big, I like the pant itself.

I bought these for a tundra trekking. We were expecting a mix of heavy rain, strong winds, snow, ice and on top of that: Walking in 2 ft of water-filled moss. Well, we got exactly what we expected. Add to this walking through dense bushes in areas where there was no trail and surely no man had ever walked, there was a big challenge in sight for the Loke pants.

Starting the first morning of these 5 days of hiking, I wore these all day and evening long and not a moment did I think to take them away. They are perfectly waterproof, that was made clearly walking up a stream for 5 hours our first day.

Their ability to block wind was also much appreciated, as Tundra is devoid of trees we were exposed to continuous, blasting winds. These pants are breathable, at least partly. 2. 5 ply isn’t 3 ply and the absence of side zips was dearly missed during high output activities where my inner pants would be soaked by perspiration.

While these look frail and weak, they are surprisingly tough. Bushes, rocks, branches. Many times I looked down expecting to find these ripped apart but they sustained the trip well. They may not be bullet proof but for the price, you Need these pants.

I was trying to avoid having to buy snow pants since I’m new to the very cold winters here in Alaska but figured I could save money and hassle by buying these pants to put over my clothes etc. but it was just a waste and since I also bought a jacket for my daughter and paid double what I would have because I didn’t want to take chances and found the jacket although pretty and Easy pack was a waste too, now I’m not sure what type of clothing this brand is for.

Maybe mild unpredictable weather. Either way although pretty items I don’t trust.

The pockets are large. Thats hard to find in womens pants. The front cargos can hold a large phone and the front pockets are also large and deep, larger than the cargos. Large rear pockets too. Good movement for hiking or skiing, not sure about biking but at this price point, that would be insane.

The belt is a bit tough to adjust, but the flip side is that it stays where you set it. The buckle is super easy and low profile. The waistline is also lower profile for a winter pant. Theses are good touches.

Not sjre how they will hold uo as i have yet to take them into the wild. At 57 and 145 lbs. , I am between ML. The M fits well but a little bit binding at the very top of the thigh. It would take a very high step or full pedal stroke to notice.

The L gives me room for a diaper, which I dont need. I guess Ill just have to shed the extra 20lbs. , hoping the pants will help.

Love these pants but they have a design flaw when hiking in sand, leaves or snow. There is a toggle pull on the inside leg at the ankle. A cord loop at this location would normally trip you when it catches the hooks of the opposite hiking boot.

Luckily a small pocket is provided to enclose the toggle and cord loop. Unfortunately, the pocket is also a collector of sand, snow and anything else you’re hiking through. And, actually the loop sticks out anywaysbecause the pocket is too shallow and needs Velcro or snaps to keep it shut.

Or do like me and simply sew the pocket shut. Other than that love the price, fabric, warmth and fit.

I wore these to play golf on very, very chilly and windy New England day. They worked. I was comfortable. Initially I ordered a large but found there was little room to layer. I replaced the large with an XL and while the pants are slightly baggy around the knees, I wasnt looking for style, just function.

I couldnt manipulate the belt buckle and replaced the belt. Imagine tinkering with a belt buckle as you head for a pit stop at the turn. The pockets are convenient and deep enough for a couple of golf balls, tees, marker and hand warmers.

The side pocket on the right leg held my mask. A good product for a decent price.

I had high hopes for these when they arrived. They seemed sturdy and felt thick enough that you could wear them on their own and you’d be warm enough. However my excitement was short-lived. I’ve bought from Trespass before so went with a small, my usual size.

I wear a UK 10. I couldn’t get these past my mid thighs. I measured the waistband. Unstretched it was 12 inches, and stretched it measured a tiny 17 inches!!!! For a ladies size 10! Utterly ridiculous, no adult woman is that tiny.

I’ve sent them back for a return as faulty as there is surely no way all of them are cut this small. Very disappointed, I won’t be bothering to re order them in a larger size.

I love these, I had another pair my correct body size but for the job I needed them for, they eventually, 2 years later, ripped at the bum but I was crawling around on hands and knees gardening a lot! I splashed out but this time went for a size larger than my natural size, after all these go over my work trousers, and they are perfect.

Benefits are wide legs so you can pull them on over your boots then Velcro them snug plus they allow access to your trousers pockets under nether. The material is thick enough to be substantial and dry but thin enough to allow flexibility.

They keep you dry and look neat too!.

Good waterproof trousers for the price. Material is lightweight and windproof, stands up to heavy rain well. Only downside I found was that to be honest, even the size XS is too large for me and quite baggy in the legs, but not a big problem since the practical requirements in terms of staying dry without being too heavy are met.

Waistband is at least elasticated and adjustable, so even if they’re too big, they don’t fall off.

I was taught as a kid that if you keep your hands, feet and head warm, the rest of you will stay warm. Never much paid heed to my legs/butt. These pants are very warm and what a difference when sitting in one place for 3-4 hours at 30 degrees.

They are soft/flexible and quiet when walking. I believe the sizing is true to size. I wear a 34″ waist and these fit just a little loose, allowing me to tuck in heavy shirt layers. The legs are a bit too long with street shoes, but just right with large hunting boots.

Only two pockets (with zipper closures) — wish they had two more cargo pockets. Strongly recommended.

These are actually great pants but they’re wayyy bigger than expected. I normally wear a 32/30 pant and ordered the medium. I know they’re designed for wearing over clothes but I wear long underwear, a pear of somewhat thin (sweatpants like thickness) insulated pants, and a pair of briar proof Jeans (similar to sweat pant thickness with jeans over them) under them and the waist still has an extra 3-4 inches and they’re about too inches long.

Otherwise they’re good and fairly waterproof. They’re not grundéns kind of dry or anything, but I wore them tonight while sitting in a tree stand for 4 hours in probably. 05 -. 1 inch per hour rain and they kept me dry and warm.

I’m on a budget during this Covid situation. Moneys tight. Needed the upgrade this deer season to get more time out in the field. I’m a thin guy and get chilled quick. With a base layer and jeans under these pants on a snowy 20 degree day, I was able to stay in stand for 5 hrs with minimum movement.

Overall they are quiet, warm and windproof. More zip pockets would be nice, but can’t complain with the price.

Was excited when Patagonia went to 3 layer construction – more durable, more comfortable, more breathable. And at this price point you’ll be hard pressed to find anything else in three layer. I’d call them mid weight – still quite packable but not ultralight and also not super heavy for extensive deep backcountry use But again they aren’t designed with either use in mind – just a good daily driver.

Fit is good I’m 30-31 waist and went medium which is about perfect for layering and movement. Small would have felt restrictive I think. Easy on over boots with the 3/4 side zips. No waterproof zips but haven’t had any issues with leakage with the flaps.

I mostly avoid rain pants unless is a long day or rain or really coming down so these fit the bill without any extras and a reasonable cost. Again 3 layer, to me, is always the way to go and this makes it easy without breaking the bank.

Stood up very well to the horizontal rain and brutal winds in Iceland. Walked almost 8 hours in rain and wind and did not get wet. They also helped enormously with warmth and blocking the wind. Wore them with leggings underneath and never felt too hot (the air temperatures were high 40s and low 50s – this was September in Iceland).

Also discovered the rain pants can be helpful during the river crossings by protecting your legs and leggings from the icy cold river water (obviously you’ll still get wet but having another barrier was helpful).

Negatives: I wish there was an XXS size. I typically wear a 0-2 in pants and was still swimming in the XS. They are incredibly baggy and not very flattering. It would also be nice if the zipper ran up the side all the way so you can get them on without taking shoes/boots off, but that’s a minor quibble.

The waist was also quite big, and it was slightly annoying trying to tie the drawstring cord standing in the cold/wet/rain/wind and you have to take off your gloves etc etc.

I am enjoying my new Torrentshell waterproof pants. My wife and I walk daily in all weather conditions, with few exceptions, so we require protective clothing to block wind and rain. I have worn other waterproof pants in the past and found them ok as well, but the Torrentshell fit well over seasonal clothing, have an elasticized adjustable waist, a generous leg length with lower leg zippers and adjustable ankle snaps.

The Torrentshell 3L pants also have 2 zippered hand pockets, that I find extremely useful, but are not supplied in most other waterproof pants. The Torrentshell 3L is simply a great waterproof pant !.

I have been looking everywhere for insulated pants that would keep me warm while out on puppy duty. I have three huskies that love the cold. The nastier the weather, the more they want to stay out in it.

I needed something to protect me from the elements while supplying warmth. I bought these last night at Bass Pro. This morning it was -2 wind chill with a 20 mph wind. A bit chilly. I wore jeans under these and had on the She outdoor insulated waterproof jacket.

I was super warm and toasty. I can’t speak for the waterproof aspect of these pants yet but I can say with certainty, you will stay warm when you wear them!.

I bought these for my wife. They are very warm. Only issue is they are too long. They have a velcro strap that is supposed to hold them, but it would be better if you were able to purchase them in different lengths.

Otherwise she is very happy with them.

I purchased the Gore-Tex rain pants for my husband as a Christmas gift. He’s an avid golfer and these are the perfect item when he’s caught on the course in a downpour! He’s thrilled with the fabric, fit and style.

And the price was very reasonable compared to other brands.

Our school has ordered these for the last couple years in the Pro-Tech material. We had them customized for the kids as well. First off, the staff especially Jay Caddle was so helpful with the ordering and artwork.

It was an easy process and no problems at all. The jackets are of the highest quality and made in the USA which is even better. These jackets will last much longer than the kids are in school with us!!! Thank you!!!.

Hiking, cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, walking. Like the full-length zippers as can access pant pockets. Lots of room for under layers.

I like overall pant; PRO: waterproof not water-resistant, great pocket options, quality construction, fairly quiet for waterproof pant, warm enough for 20 degrees and warmer. CON: For me personally the sizing doesn’t work the best.

I’m 6’0”, 34”-33” waist. I ordered a medium in hopes of having enough leg length, without too much belly room in the waist. The pants, according to service help (which she was awesome!), are made shorter to fit just below the upper ankle boot line.

For me they were too short ending above the top of my ankle boot line. I sent them back for a large, in hopes of gaining a few inches on length, but I am concerned about the waist, because even with the adjustable belt to control waist size, the waist size space is very large for the medium.

I’m hoping I’ll be able to tighten up the adjustable belt enough to fit comfortably with the additional spacing? Currently my exchange is still in transit.

Recently purchased the 3L Rain Pant in Forloh green Medium. Just used them for a full day of Kokanee fishing here in British Columbia with plenty of rain and they held up great. A few things to consider if you wish to purchase these: 1.

There are no belt loops so they use a hook and loop system on either side at the rear of the pant where belt loops would be. lots of room to adjust and they stretch in this area as well so it keeps them comfortable and allows room to alter the fit depending on the size of garment underneath.

2. Having no belt also keeps it easy to remove with the full zip on the sides. 3. sizing! I am 5′ 7″, 185 lbs and wear a 34″ waist x 30″ inseam in jeans generally. The medium in these pants fit me perfectly with plenty more room to cinch it in tighter.

The length of the pants may be an issue if you are a taller person say 6′ or taller. Zipper quality is excellent, the pants dry very quickly. I wore mine over rubber boots and jumped in the lake submerging the lower 8 inches or so of pant and they dried in no time.

I am very impressed and happy with these. Keep up the great work Forloh.

I have been on a quest for months looking for hunting pants. Tried a bunch of the men’s but they were often too tight in the hips and big everywhere else. I even tried Forloh men’s medium, my husband ended up getting them in a size large because he liked them so much! I tried some of the outdoors/mountaineering brands for rain/shell pants but they were too swishy/loud and often not made for the level of durability that I am looking for.

I had given up and was going to get by with some hand me downs from my husband that were giant but free and then Forloh comes out with Womens!!!! I am 5’7″ 155 lbs normally a size 10, 30″ waist 40″ hips and tried both the women’s medium and large.

The mediums were tight with a fleece layer underneath. I think if I lost 5 pounds and only wore base layers they would work, but I’m in interior Alaska and need the option for many layers. The larges fit great where they aren’t too baggy if I have minimal layering but they also accommodate a puffy layer underneath for the sub-zero temps I’m in right now.

Can’t comment on having them in the rain but as a shell for protection against strong winds, snow, and brambles I am loving them! Using them on a winter caribou hunt currently and am very happy with them!.

Giving four stars because I haven’t actually used them in the rain yet, but I have a lot of North Face gear so I’m certain they will be as waterproof as they say. I’m not giving five stars because like many other reviewers have said, I wish they had belt loops because they do seem as though they will sag down as worn.

For $189 I would really like to see a belt system like you put in the $70 Paramount pants (which I have several pair of. my Go To pants). That belt system is great and you can cinch the pants tight. So anyway, like the look and feel and I’m sure they perform as advertised, but I want a belt.

Height: 5’10 Weight: 165lb Size: M I bought these as my hardshell layer for mountaineering and hiking for when the weather is at its worst. I wear these on top of a base layer + softshell pants with mountaineering boots.

First, the length and waist got perfect. The zipper runs from the foot to the knee. Technically I could fully unzip it and slide it on while wearing Scarpa phantom 6000s but it’s pretty tight. I would most likely take the boots off and on while putting them on and that’s the only drawback.

However, for the price and limited use, I can justify that aspect of it. Pros: highly packable, ultra light weight, good value, quality material. Cons: zips up to the knee difficult to put on while wearing mountaineering boots I would recommend and buy again.

Good quality, lightweight packable waterproof trousers. Fantastic waterproofness, but not the most breathable thing to wear. Fine as over trousers for downpours and very windy weather but not so good as a warmer all-day just-in-case layer (not really what these are designed for, look to some of the other options).

Zips are long enough to get over boots with a popper at the bottom, but that’s about it for features. No pockets or access to pockets underneath so you need to stick your hand in the top of the trousers to fish anything you might need of pockets below.

But the minimal feature set keeps these lightweight and waterproof and that’s what they’re for. Medium a good fit for me at 6’2, 32” waist.

I wanted a pair of rain pants primarily for something light and packable that I could store in my backpack when riding my motorcycle through rain, or to have when hiking in the rain when off the bike.

These were on sale, and even though they were a women’s fit, I figured it didn’t really matter for my intentions. The first time I threw these on for riding through a few showers and puddles, they did the job perfectly.

However when I had to ride for four hours straight during an atmospheric river event, they couldn’t hold up. To be fair, this was extreme conditions that these pants likely weren’t designed for. With this said, I do question whether they’d keep one dry if hiking in a torrential downpour through narrow, bush-lined trails.

These pants are essentially an emergency shell, so my intent for this piece is more utilitarian than stylistic. I first purchased an XL pair and found them a bit too big, but considering they’re meant to be worn over other clothes I wasn’t sure.

I bought a second pair in Large in order to compare them and I actually had a really time deciding between them. Once they were on, the Large fit better: a little trimmer in the legs, not so baggy. But they were a little snugger pulling up over my hips.

Not *too* snug to fit, but it made me wary that if I put on any leg fat or muscle I might no longer fit. I have hockey legs. Ultimately I decided on keeping the Large. Motifivation to keep trim. I would consider it true to size, I’m just one of those builds whose size is somewhere in between.

As a rain shell, they certainly do the job. I live in the PNW so between hikes and camping I’m bound to have lots of opportunity to use it.
