20 Best Waterproof For Leather Boots (2023 Updated)

Excellent stuff, although the applicator is inefficient. The sponge applicator tears away from the plastic underlay so is useless. I use a cloth but almost invariably end up using my hands to massage it into my son’s huge workboots.

I team it with Neatsfoot oil after wire brushing the boots free of mud, stones, cement; use that first and then an hour later, apply the Nikwax. This formula works very well, never found a better routine or products.

I used to use Sno-Seal many years ago, and tried some other products when MEC stopped carrying it. All of them were sub-par, and made me long for a tub of Sno-Seal and a trusty rag. I tried the spray-on Nikwax, and was again not impressed.

This was my next option, and I seem to have finally found my new go-to waterproofing product. It goes on easily, but before I’d even finished my 2nd boot, the foam applicator had fallen off. Some poor design there.

I just grabbed a rag ad kept going, and my first trip into slushy snow proved the value of this stuff. Having proven itself on my hiking boots, I just now finished treating some casual leather ankle-boots to wear while plodding through rain and wet snow around town.

It obviously darkened the leather, but in a very appealing way. The only way to make this better would be to put it in a shoe polish style tin, a glass jar, or some other non-plastic tub. It certainly doesn’t need to be squeezable since the applicator is useless.

Are you listening, Nikwax?! A no-plastic option would be awesome!.

Went on to some leather gloves easily. I’m not sure why this is in such a liquid format as compared to something like snoseal? The Nikwax I got in a sachet with my ski gloves was much thicker/pastier than the tube.

I used this tube of Nikwax mainly to make sure I had good coverage. Haven’t tried it out at the snow yet.

Super easy to use. Product has easy to follow directions for use, but they are a little small due to the size of the bottle. Start with clean shoes or boots. Pick a well ventilated area, preferably outside when the temperature is above 50 degrees.

Resist the urge to shake the bottle, as this will cause bubbles on your boots as you spray them. Spray boots evenly, all over until they’re damp but not soaking wet. Dry for 24 hours before you get the boots/ shoes wet.

Always a good idea to test a small area to make sure the product doesn’t discolor your footwear. My light brown leather boots did not get much darker at all. My boots are now ready for sloppy, wet, winter weather!.

This stuff is the best! I got it last year for my Bearpaw boots. Now this year they come pre-treated with “Never Wet”! The only down side to “Never Wet for boots and shoes” is that you have to buy it online.

I think for that reason alot of people go to the store looking for it and the only one available to buy at stores is the industrial pack with two aerosol cans. This is NOT, I repeat, This is NOT for shoes or boots! That’s why they ruin your shoes or boots and leaves a chalky film.

Hopefully we will see this version in stores soon so this mistake will not happen any more.

I was skeptical that the water repellent treatment I applied would be as effective as the factory finish that came with my daughter’s seuede boots. I was wrong. Extremely hydrophobic (water beads right off)! Nice that it doesn’t rely on aerosols as well.

Having been a hunter for over 25 years, I’ve worn and treated alot of boots. The Kenetrek boot wax is one of the best I have used. It absorbs in well, does a great job or waterproofing, softens the leather a little, but doesn’t make it fragile or less tough.

The one possible down side for some people will be that it does darken the leather a bit. After a thorough drying and buffing, it ends up a few shades darker than original. Enough product in the can to treat at least 10-12 pairs of boots.

It doesn’t take much of this stuff to work. No stiff or sticky feel to the boots afterwards, like alot of other waxes have. Overall, just a GREAT boot wax.

I purchased this boot wax because it was recommended by the manufacturer, Kennetrex. It was easy to apply and soaked into the boot material easily after allowing the boots to sit overnight. It has added that nice layer of extra waterproof protection for the tough work in elk country.

I will look forward to reporting on the duration of waterproofing before needing to reapply. Typically, this is something I do before the beginning of every hunting season.

Your boots are the bomb. Love my Kenetrek boots. Never in my life have I had such a comfortable boots.i have both huide boots summer and winter. You’ll have my business the rest of my life.

Giving 3 stars for now since I have only used it once on two pairs of nubuck. The instructions say to spray 2 inches away, which seemed awfully close. I did it anyway, and sure enough was getting a milky mess running all over my boots and shoes.

Concerned, I let it sit for five minutes before I dabbed off all the excess (which was most of it). I later learned that this is actually the proper way of applying this stuff. The next day I wore one of the pairs in rain and while they didn’t soak through, they also didn’t bead up and shed water that nicely… I’ll have to give it another try to make sure it wasn’t user error.

I prefer this spray version over the dauber version as I find it’s easier to put a few light coats quickly rather than smear on a thick coat. I use tis spay on my boots that have cordura fabric (a very coarse synthetic fabric) and leather with a Gore-Tex lining and it keeps the water beading off and the boot breathable.

I just wished it lasted a bit longer and that they sold it in larger formats. Overall great stuff and it keeps me from over oiling my boots which would make them too soft to support my ankles. Love it for regular hiking but mostly for winter as it keeps the salty puddle water out of the leather of my 500$ Danners.

Easier to use than the version where you have to wet the boots first. Creates a good water repellant coating that visibly repelled water as we crossed multiple streams on our most recent mutiday backpacking trip.

No bad smell. Recommended!.

Just got a new (2nd) pair of these boots, and I have to say I am left disappointed. The leather on the tongues of the new boots are significantly thinner and more flimsy than on my earlier pair, which caused one of the boots’ tongue to have ugly folds/bends right out of the box.

As a utilitarian work boot, I’d probably still recommend them, but as a fashionable piece of clothing, I have to say the new pair I got really irritate me with how creased and folded they came from the factory.

They aren’t getting 1 or 2 stars either, because it looks like the rest of the boots stayed the same, and I am trying to be fair. A bent tongue might not justify 2 nicks in the score for everybody, but for someone who uses the boot as a fashionable piece of clothing, it does for me.

Too bad that out of all of Timberland’s products, they think it’s ok to step down in quality in not only their most well-known and beloved boot, but the “premium” version of it at that. Why not just increase the price slightly, instead of staining the meaning of the word “premium”? If anybody can use the info: My ~1-1.

5 year old pair came in a dark grey shoebox, while my new pair came in a white/orange box.

I’m giving these a 5 star rating based on their comfort (without requiring breaking in) and their looks. They are very light and flexible too – they’re comfier than slippers. I’m a UK10 but had to return the first pair I bought because they were too small.

The toe end is quite narrow and I could tell they were going to cause problems. Fortunately there are free returns and a half size up fitted perfectly, so I would recommend going a half size up from your normal size.

The lace eyelets have questionable placement for the second from top row. If you use these eyelets then the laces are difficult to remove so I don’t run the laces through those holes. Whilst on the subject of the laces, I’ve ordered some navy laces elsewhere as I’m not keen on the colour of the standard ones, though this is personal taste.

Factor in some nubuck protector spray and you are good to go – I recommend Saphir Super Invulner.

Bloomingdale’s was the only legit seller of black timberland premium boots in size 9. Sold out every else or people price gauging. I was still nervous about ordering online because timberland boots are well known for not fitting the same as regular shoes/sneakers.

MY SPECIFIC NOTE: I went to a Macy’s to try on Timbs. I was able to try a size 8. 5, which was way too small, and a size 9. 5, which was too big. Therefore, I was able to make an educated guess that size 9 would be my size.

If I hadn’t done that, I may very well have ordered the wrong size. Despite being nervous that maybe size 9 wouldn’t fit well, I cant stress enough that it’s a PERFECT fit, and very comfortable! I’m so excited to take these out!!! Also, despite my order being in “processing” for many days, Bloomingdale’s customer service was super helpful in updating me when I would call to ask about my order.

I’ve always used Mink Oil on my boots and since it lasts forever I hadn’t bought any in over a decade. This is great stuff – perfect protection for my leather boots. I use it on old work boots to freshen them up and on new boots to keep they supple and waterproof and looking good.

When I was a kid, growing up in the country, we all kept our hunting and winter boots well saturated with mink oil. This particular product works just like what I had in the 1970’s. Two thumbs up!

For me it is important as to how it will penetrate the leather. There is an orange color y a white color. I don’t like the orange at all. The white is much better. This product is the white & I am very pleased with it.

Like the boots. Pretty much true to size but when in doubt probably go a half size up. So far comfortable, but haven’t worn them long enough to really know how they feel if walking around for any length of time.

Love Thursdays and these are no exception. The sizing guide is always off for me. I buy the same size I wear in sneakers and that generally fits almost snug, but can still wear boot socks. As for the coloring, I didn’t expect quite as much fading from black to grey.

Makes them a little less versatile with the wardrobe, but I didn’t want to send them back.

Easily dried. Made the shoes look newer, cleaner and shinier which I didn’t expect. Went to mud and snow but it doesnt show because my boots still look fresh

But I’m really glad I did bc if done so correctly this stuff is ridiculously amazing!! It darkened our beat up boots to a gorgeous color! Which is all I kinda was going for.

My husband was interested In the waterproofing feature bc he’s a cow hoof trimmer so he washes his boots everyday after work! Not only that he stands in not so dry areas all day in the heat! He was extremely impressed by this product! We actually tried it on some old boots before risking his new ones! & surprisingly he said he could use his old pair again! A+++++ Product for us! I tried this product in my husbands fire fighter boots. They get a lot of wear and tear. These are the boots he wears to all calls that aren’t structure fires, think, vehicle accidents, medical, etc.

These boots are exposed to the elements and go through a lot. I decided these boots would be perfect to test this product on. I waited to write my review to make sure the product held up. It’s been almost two weeks and he works 24 hours every other day at the station.

My husband says the rain water just rolls off the boots and reminds him of the rain x people put in windshields. He says the water bounces off and the product repels all the water instantly. The boots also look better once the product was applied.

I think using these on work boots (or any leather type shoe) will expand their usage.

Too early still to give perfect rating. Due to a problem with previous danner boots purchased a couple years ago. They only lasted one year. One year of waterproof boots to the second year of leaking boots.

I believe possibly another waterproofing product did not do the job it was supposed to do. So using your product this year with the hopes it does the job for next years cold season of fishing for salmon and Steelhead.

So far the boots have stayed leak free now for only close to two months. As I said before still too early to rate perfect. Thank you. No photos available.

Hello Danner and good folk. I have used the waterproof protection spray immediately upon arrival of my boots. I let it dry and applied second application. While my lawn certainly has morning dew, my boots showed no evidence.

Days later I applied a third spraying. My amazing boots are comfortable and remain dry. Thank you Danner. Love my boots and love the waterproof spray. I remain happy and satisfied.

I bought this spray with a new pair of boots. I used it on two old pair. I cleaned and prepped the surface, then sprayed on. U let them set for 24 hours. The next day I walked the fog in dew covered grass.

After 30 minutes my feet were wet. The other pair of boots I wore to work. I was working in standing water and again my feet got wet. Not sure if I didn’t get spray worked into threads or what but I used almost this whole bottle on two pair of boots and still got my feet wet.

So far so good, used this on my so called waterproof hiking boots that didn’t turn out to be waterproof, was a little bummed over this. Really liked the comfort and style of the boots so took matters into my own hands and decided to waterproof them myself.

Bought the first stuff I saw in the grocery store and it was the Kiwi brand. I followed the instructions on how to apply to a “T”. Applied two coats on my boots and am really pleased with the results.

Its winter here at the moment and go sledding with my two yr old son at least a couple times a week and wear them to work. These boots see a lot of snow and salt on the daily and my feet are always dry and salt just brushes off like nothing.

These boots look great considering how hard I am on them. Will definitely be re- applying this water proofer/protector for the spring summer.

This works pretty well for waterproofing. I also partnered it with Kiwi’s leather lotion to completely restore my boots. They both worked very well and will help restore and protect your leather boots.

This (and the lotion) will change the color of your boots but it’s not bad, the new color is just from healthier leather and being protected. Some people say don’t use on white shoes and I wouldn’t, but dark brown, grey or black leather look so much better with this product.

You also will need multiple coats to work properly.

That is a decent product. You wont impregnate more than 4-5 items in one can but that is not so bad. Protects against water, rain, snow, dirt, soil and salt. Good for shoes, boots, leather jackets, bags, coats, hats, backpacks.

You can use it on a leather, suede, nubuck, fabric and textile too. You need to apply product, let it dry at least one hour and the repeat again.

I purchased this to treat my gloves. After I applied this and I let the gloves dry. The following week I packed up my gear to head to the mountains. After getting to my destination, I found that the black dye in this product was all over my bright green Burton 3L AK jacket.

Now I have black streaks all over my outerwear! Terrible stuff stay away!.

Good product, I tried it on hestra gloves and Nepal shoes. the solution is uniformly absorbed by the leather layer. No drying stains, no smell, and easy to apply. Water pearl away pretty good ! Now I had to see how long it will last before I repeat the treatment Thanks for this.

I applied this to my leather boots over a month ago, just looking for something to water proof them. It works just fine, though can scratch off and will need to be reapplied every so often. I had the hardest time applying it! Comes out uneven and difficult to control.

Took me a long time to apply this product to my boots. Changes the colour of your leather though I don’t mind that much.

Great product and easy to apply. I put on nitrile gloves and work this into the boot paying extra attention to the seams. A little of this goes a long way. So easy to use. Just be sure to shake it up the best that you can and don’t “glob” on.

Use sparingly and enjoy the end result.

Slapped this baby on with some NikWax after initially breaking my boots in and could tell it was top notch quality product giving deep life to the leather. Could tell the conditioner was much more premium than any conditioner I had used on leather boots before.

Went on a five day camp hunt in heavily wet conditions shortly after and my feet couldn’t be more dry!! Getcha some!.

Got this with my Timberlines, used it on my old Red Wings and made them new again. Great product will definitely buy more!

Very hesitate to buy it again! The sponge head applicator is the worst design, it’s so hard to squeeze the liquid out and also the plastic/sponge breaks before finishing wash the first boots. Why the manufactory use such a week sponge material?? I have to remove the broken sponge applicator and pull the cleaning gel onto my boots directly, then use my teeth brush to clean the boots.

This production need a renovation for the applicator design. Actually all Nikwax products with a sponge applicator are sucks!.

I was actually searching for something to waterproof and protect my snapback. It was pretty easy to apply even though it was the sponge, and the instructions are straight forward. I tested the hat under the tap again and the water was beading right off! I hope this helps keep my hat protected for many years! I wish there was like a UV protection as well, but not sure many of these products have that in mind as they are for mainly boots and not hats.

I’ve been using nikwax products for years , mostly for soft shells and gore tex clothing. Always great results ,delivered as promised. Nikwax footwear cleaning gel is no different. A very simple application ( follow the instruction ) and my 3 pairs of shoes look “younger”.

Tested my salomon X ultra mid winter boots in snow and water on 8 km hike. Excellent product , recommended.

I use this on my leather boots to ensure their waterproof ness. I have even used sno-seal on my wifes gotten lined leather boots! I first treat the boots by useing a hairdryer to heat the an area on the boots and then rub in sno-seal.

This ensures the sno-seal goes right into the fibres of our he leather. Then all you do is occasionally reapply a coat to the surface of the boot and then buff using a cloth. I have never had wet or damp creep into my boots since using sno-seal yet it still retains their breath ability!! A great product and would recommend it to you.

I was quite surprised when I got the shipment. It was only a 3. 5 oz container. If you looked at the can on the ad it said 7 oz. But reading the description it says 3. 5 oz. My fault I should have read the whole description.

But it won’t happen again.

Tired of waterproof sprays and don’t like rotting my stitches with dubin. I discovered sno-seal and am delighted with its ease of application, efficacy and time between reapplications, weeks rather than days with the sprays.

Be aware however that as it soaks into leather it does create a waxed finish rather than a smoother polished finish, in my opinion this seems more suitable to the purpose of a waterproofed shoe.

Good product. I’ve used this on clothing, backpacks and accessories. Since it’s a more eco friendly product it doesn’t last forever but it significantly improves breathability and waterproofness. During the wet season I usually treat my jackets and pants couple of times.

This spray does not spray on like the fine even mist of the aerosol cans. This means that you definitely need a clean soft rag to wipe off the excess and polish the waterproofing spray in. Once that is done, it does seem to provide a nice finish but definitely fussier to use than an aerosol can.

I’ve been using this product the past few winters. This is my 2nd bottle. Easy to apply with the pump, no aerosol spray, which is even better. Very little odour. Best to apply in a sink because it does tend to drip.

Hardly notice any colour darkening of the leather.

Just got back from hiking w my Danners for the second year in a row in the Wind River mountains for 6 days. I used the spray “lightly” beforehand due to the wear on my shoes and hoping to “waterproof “ my non waterproof shoes to the best of their ability in case of inclement weather.

Worked awesome!!! I soooo appreciate Danner and the comfort and quality of their shoes and accessories. I had called customer care ahead of time to get their advice on this and they were 100% helpful and accurate!.

Difficult to find footwear that is not synthetic; I happened upon a perfect pair of mocassin boots with support overlaying the mocassin aspect and realized I would need to have a waterproofing product which would encourage the breathe-ability of leather.

This Gel is Wonderful. Absolutely what I was searching for. And Furthermore. in part is the fact that it is made in the great USA. Unfortunately unlike the faux grassroots claim of the footwear purchased.

(Tho I do Love Them!) Especially thanks to the X3 application of this gel. Has been sold out several times. And the ones I received were not made in USA. Bummer. But you’re operating with the integrity of quality and loyalty to our great country.

Great for oil-tanned leather. Keeps it soft supple and weather protected. This brand seems to be lighter in color, so causes a little less darkening. A major work boot company has been selleing a comparable product for years, at 3 times the price.

WOW THE OIL WORKS SO MUCH BETTER THEN THAT PASTE YOU USUEALLY SEE IN STORES, GREAT PRODUCT, WORKS GREAT BOOTS ARE NICE AND DRY.

Very good product, use this all year round, on boots, shoes and leather gloves keeps leather soft/water resistant will darken lighter shades of leather double the life of cheap Harbor freight roper gloves see pictures.

Purchased to waterproof my beekeeping gloves. They are made of sheepskin and have long sleeves that come to the elbow that are made from thick cotton. Previously, I was getting stung at the point where cotton meets the leather.

Used this product with the gloves on and applied a heavy amount to gloves and sleeves. Have seen bees trying to sting at the same spot but now stinger is not coming all the way through. Seems like it worked.

Also used on some boots. Planning to use on my tent on the next camping trip. Great product.

Get a hair dryer for your own hobby’s / tool box, because this is a messy process, and wear rubber / latex free exam gloves. Put a old bathroom towel on your work table. Heat up the leather no hotter than 120F.

Apply copious amounts of this stuff and rub it in with your gloved hands. Even keep the hair dryer on low to keep the Sno Seal and the leather real warm while your rubbing the wax in. I restored my old Timex suede watch band and it turned it into a smooth oiled leather strap, real nice actually.

Restored a few old holsters after much internet research on how to, and an older gun belt. Made the leather like something you woulda had to pay 6 times what i got my new old stock stuff for here off ebay.

Keeps the leather pliable and plastic, leather needs treated or it will crack. I plan on doing my deer skin and lamb skin gloves with Sno Seal. I’m going to stick with mink oil for my boots only. But for everything else leather from now on It’s Sno Seal.

It’s worth the effort. I clean everything by wiping it down with a rag damp with plain white vinegar first and let them dry for a week before applying Sno Seal. Then i let the stuff sit for a couple days after waxing before wiping it down and polishing it up lightly with a clean rag.

Sometimes a proven product has that reputationfor a reason. A product that’s been around for over 100 years works and the proof is that it still exists.

Bought my first really good leather hiking boots for use in the western Sierra’s in 1975. The salesman convinced me to buy some SNO-SEAL , because hiking boots back then were mostly or all leather and not very waterproof.

I can’t remember the shoe brand for sure , but I do remember that SNO-SEAL won me over. Been using it ever since. Heck , I use it on all my leather knife sheaths & gun holsters. I’m ready to buy another can … pricing 7 ouncers online.

I have used this product before and I’m happy with it. Does what it has to do. Applies easily but has a strong smell. I apply it in the garage or outside. The aerosol last quite long.

Cap was broken and doesn’t spray well. Thought about returning it but it kind of works.
