20 Best Water Repellent For Windshield (2023 Updated)

I have been doing vehicle cleaning for over 40 years. I used to be knind of a “celebrity” in the neighbourhood for how often and how clean my vehicles were. My brother bought Rain-X back in theearly 80s and applied it to the windshield of his car.

It worked great even at speeds just barely above 50 km/hr. This product does a really good job of cleaning the glass but the rain repellant properties are sorely lacking. I have used another spray on cleaner, repellant that is available at Canadian Tire as well and it cleans just as good if not a bit better and the rain repellant is marginally better if at all.

I applied the Rain X and ythe next day we had a light rain going to medium hvy a while later. Even at 60 km/hr the rain did not “bad up and roll off the windshield” and the first a next wipes of the wipers left a “haze” on the windshield that while not completely blurring the vision ( it was daylight and I know that haze makes night vision dangerous especially with opposing headlights particularly the after market LEDs.

I followed the directions and the window had been clean of any remaining products or bugs etc. before I applied it. I even let it sit for a minute or two after I applied it before buffing it off TWICE and with new clothes each time.

The actual Rain X that comes in a smaller bottle works better but I was hoping to save couple steps by using this ( and the other product). By the ay the wiper blades were raised off the window and cleaned before the product was applied and for an hour after.

I am hoping that the Rain-X anti fog product works better as I plan on trying that as Fall’s changing temperatures leaves condensation on the inside of the windshield at times.

I’m constantly in search for a better to clean my cars with. Glass especially auto glass is a pain to clean. My search was over for a glass cleaner as soon as I started using invisible glass. I can’t tell you how many cases I have gone through over the years.

Not only for glass, but counter tops stainless steel appliances and just plain dusting around the house. Spritz some on a lint free towel and go to town. This is truly and very good product.

I bought my 19 oz can of Stoner Invisible Glass cleaner a few months ago. Great move on my part. What ever surface I use it on, auto mirrors, glass or even chrome, it just never streaks. Not to mention being able to clean so many items in my home.

This product is so much better than that “other” window cleaner. This window cleaner is a wonderful and easy way to clean all your glass. Frank-Tucson, AZ.

Works incredible on glass and mirrored surfaces! I typically find this in the automobile section but I use it for all my glass needs because it makes every smudge and swipe disappear! Not even that expensive.

I originally bought this for my vehicle but have ended up using it throughout my home, too. It does a wonderful job of cleaning glass and mirrors and leaves them streak free. Excellent product.

If I could give this 20 stars I would I love how well this cleans and repels dirt and it doesn’t streak even if it’s super dirty this effective glass cleaner is so efficient that you may not see where a sliding glass door is and walk through it!! I recommend it.

May have had high espectations for this. At the onset, I just want tonsay that this was used for both, a windshield as well as glass shower doors to those of you using it for the windshield- sworks well, so far it does repell rain as it mentions.

Still testing as to how long the coating lasts for. In terms of shower glass doors, does not work. May be for a few reasosns, heat from the shower being one of them, different coating material or application.

Overall comment, it is very very strong smelling. Whatever you do, please make sure you are in a well ventalated area.

I applied this and it lasted over three weeks though various weather, around 3000KM, including a couple of rainstorms and one carwash. Even at that, It would have been good for another couple of weeks I am sure, as before I reapplied, it was still 70-80% effective as when first applied to car windows.

I can’t believe I can drive through a rainstorm without wipers! Amazing increased visibility when driving! Much safer diving. A little goes a long way. I did all my SUV windows, panoramic sun roof included and used very little.

Should last me well over a year if just using for my vehicle. Took all of 10 minutes to do the vehicle, once the windows were clean. Living in a rural, dusty area full of gravel roads, I noted that dust does not coat my windows the way it would without this Rain-X.

Bugs clean off much easier also. These last two benefits mean less windshield washer fluid used and I guess less wear on my wipers. I will probably use this on some of my house windows also.

I have used Original Rain-X (both squeeze bottle and the trigger spray) now for over 15 years, at least, on several different cars / wiper configurations – all year-round drivers. I can honestly say this is one of the few aftermarket automotive products I would ever encourage car owners to make use of, no matter what vehicle you have (i.

e. cars, SUV’s, trucks, semi’s, etc. ). But there are some quirks you should be aware of, so that you’re not surprised. I agree with a majority of reviews that when travelling at speed, in the rain, the water just ‘flows up and off’ the windshield.

While everyone else may have their wipers on full-time, or working on high-speed, you may only need to use the intermittent setting. This stuff once saved my life when I got stuck behind a semi-rig, with no street lights, on the 401, in a rainstorm, and my wiper motor just quit.

I would not have been able to make it safely off the highway without it. Here are some points to have in mind when applying and using it. For the application: – only do this in the shade – do not do it directly in the sunlight.

In the winter months, if you can manage it, apply in a garage, with the heater blowing warm air up into the windshield in order to keep it above 4 deg. C. if possible; – I strongly recommend thoroughly cleaning all glass first – I use a full-strength solution of Simple Green, rinsed off, then a diluted solution of Windex, rinsed off and dried, and then apply Rain-X; – I suggest spraying / pouring Rain-X onto a durable cloth (i.

e. Heavy-Duty J-Cloth), and then carefully applying onto glass – I do not recommend spraying this directly onto the glass because of overspray and drips – you do not want this on anything else aside from glass; – use a hand sprayer (i.

e. a garden sprayer) to squirt clean water onto the glass after the Rain-X has had a bit of time to set – use only as much as you need to moisten the glass – do not have the water / Rain-X residue dripping down the side / back of the car (or into the cowl area); – first wipe the Rain-X residue / water down with paper towel — I prefer brown paper towel (i.

e. that which isn’t coloured white with chlorine); – then polish with a high-quality microfiber towel, OR another dry paper towel; and – do only one side-window at a time, or only a half-windshield or half-back window at a time.

Use: – from my experience, be very careful about using any kind of oil / lubricant on your wiper arms / blades when applying (or shortly after applying Rain-X). I once had a terrible issue with some kind of hazing / smearing with Rain-X, until I realized that the oil I used to lubricant & coat my wiper arms (I.

e Fluid Film) interacted with the rain and Rain-X, to cause me big problems (I now use a synthetic grease on my wiper arm springs, and use a dry graphite lube on the wiper arm mounts when changing out summer / winter blades – but not at the same time as applying Rain-X); – it shows best when travelling ‘at speed’ in the rain – water will just roll up the windshield and out of sight; – when at slow speed, you may not notice any big difference; – if you are in a situation when there isn’t much rain, but a lot of road spray, you may not notice a substantial difference (although it is there); – in the winter, it does help with removal of slush & snow (while driving); and – on one car, somehow it did enhance ‘wiper chatter’ (as one reviewer has indicated), but that went away after some driving.

I don’t have an explanation for this. My final comment has to do with glass protection. I find that if you use it regularly enough, the degree to which your windshield gets pitted over time (and subsequently hazed) seems to slow, which helps with visibility, as well as mitigating scratches on the rear window if it has a wiper assembly.

I can’t speak about the protection on side-windows, but assume the same thing is happening (i. e. cranking the windows up/down causes grit cause in the lower weather stripping to act on the glass). If you can, put multiple coats on at one time (i.

e. put on one coat, wet / dry / polish as the instructions say, then repeat). I like to put 3 coats on the windshield per application, and 2 coats on my rear window. I find this lasts longer than the amount stated by the manufacturer.

One coat on the side windows seems to last a long enough time, although I’ve never gauged it. By the way – DO NOT use this on the side mirror glass – I got a bad hazing once that had taken months to get rid of.

I would recommend this product to anybody with a car! It’s a product I always have some, and use it on not just my windshield, but my rear window, side windows, and side mirrors. Not too difficult to apply but just requires q little time and patience for proper application.

I recommend applying outside of direct sunlight and in proper temperature that the company suggests. Hands down would recommend – you can notice a difference just by touching the windows before and afterwards.

I love this stuff! My family has been using it for years on all our cars. Not only does it repel rain, it fills in the really tiny pits that can accumulate over time. (It won’t help with chips or cracks.

) It does need to be reapplied every few months, depending on conditions.

So I bought an auction car to commute back and forth to work in which I drive 120 miles a day. I guess the age of the car and sitting out in the sun did something to the windows because every time it rained, the droplets seemed to stick to the window making visibility very difficult on the side windows, rear windows and side view mirrors.

After applying the product to all my windows and mirrors, the next time it rained, the droplets just rolled off the glass. While driving down the freeway, the product plus the air blowing past the window kept the glass virtually droplet free.

It also greatly increased the visibility on the front windshield and it was easy on the wiper blades, as a matter of fact, it stopped the squeaking noise my wipers used to make! I would recommend this product and am going to apply it on all my vehicles.

This product is always in my “must have” automotive supplies. It performs exactly as promoted. A good windshield cleaning before application is a must. Follow directions and if you have never used Rain-X before, you will be hooked.

Water and melted show blow away and your wipers work better as well. Love It!.

Although this product is intended for water repellency, it actually works wonders in removing hard water spots, etching and general grime and buildup that a regular glass cleaner cannot shift. The application is very easy and doesn’t take any elbow grease to get amazing results.

Just let the product do the work, dry to a haze for a few minutes and if necessary follow up with another application. The water beading effect lasts for a very long time and comparable to more expensive glass coating products.

If you spend the time prepping your windshield first, cleaning it with detergent & water, then with a clay bar (not a razor blade), then again with a professional glass cleaner (with our without ammonia) and finish with isopropyl alcohol and clean microfiber rag, you’re ready to use the Rain-X.

If you follow the directions to a T, you’ll have no smudges and won’t have to start over. Your glass will bead water better than any wax and you won’t need to use your wipers at highway speeds, no matter how much rain might be falling.

Great product if used as directed.

Super impressed with this product. My wiper motor is dying, and yes, I am going to replace it. It works and then doesn’t work, so it’s not dependable. But with rain in the forecast the next day, I thought I would give this stuff a try.

Sure enough, the rain came and I had to drive a good 20 miles on a major highway for an appointment. Obviously, while it’s raining there is water on the windshield, but the rain drops “bead” and roll off.

I was able to drive the 20 miles to my appointment and 20 miles back with no problem at all. I did turn on my wipers a few times at stoplights, (hit and miss on them working), when the wiper motor did work, the blades glided across the windshield much smoother than they did without the rain-x application.

Today, the windshield looks clean as a whistle and my vision looking through it while driving on a sunny day is clear as a bell. While I do not recommend driving in the rain with failing wipers, I do recommend this product for a clean and clear windshield and smooth operation of the wiper blades.

And yes, I am going to repair the wiper motor ASAP.

I live in south Florida and don’t need the “winterized” fluid. I really just bought the Rain-X brand because I didn’t want to buy cheap colored water. Turns out that this was a big mistake because I put half in my vehicle and half in the wife’s.

A few weeks later, this stuff had congealed at the bottom of the washer tanks, and now neither vehicle can spray washer fluid. The flow of fluid gradually decreased until there was nothing coming out and you can hear the pump motors still running.

If I had to take the vehicles in to have this repaired it would cost me at least $100 and that’s if the pumps aren’t clogged up. Even though it’s a project to remove the tanks, I will have remove/clean them, and hope everything still works.

What a nightmare for a $3 bottle of washer fluid!.

First, it does its job of cleaning my windshield. Second, I do not have to worry about seasonal temperature changes. If you live farther north, then a zero degree rating may not be sufficient. But, for Texas, I can depend on this product all year round with no worries from rare freezes — even the historic 17 degF freezes in Houston a few years ago.

I have been using Rain-X since the 1970s with great success. It helps visibility in the rain, seems to help wiper blades last longer, and in winter months makes it easier to scrape off ice and snow. It is easy to apply, and lasts for many months before having to reapply it.

I bought Rain-X because it helps water on side and rear windows to bead up and roll off. I do not use it on the windshield because it causes the wipers to chatter and smear. My brother-in-law says he does not use his wipers at all when using Rain-X on his windshield.

maybe it doesn’t rain hard where he lives, but I find that unacceptable.

Receives this product with applicators loose in box leaking some light blue liquid. Seven of the twelve applicators were light blue cloth and 5 were bright white with no liquid on surface. The glass catalyst tube is not broken so I presume it is one of the chemicals leaking slightly.

The box was slightly saturated with that liquid. I don’t know if there will be enough liquid to cover my entire windshield. Understand this did not come from Walmart directly but an outside vendor. Walmart would never ship items this way.

Aquapel will cause raindrops to bead up and fly off of your windshield. You won’t know you’ve used it until it starts raining, but when it does rain you’ll be glad you took the time to apply this stuff.

Make sure to follow the directions word for word for the best results. Aquapel works so well that during most light rain storms you won’t even need to use your wipers. No kidding. And this stuff is really inexpensive, too.

If you want to be able to pretty much drive in the rain with no wipers on this is THE product to buy. Ive been using this for years on my vehicles and highly recommend it ! Application is key when putting this on your windshield so look up the instructions.

First used Rain-X original in the 1980s, great stuff however once you use the wipers the coating wears off. Have used other brands of washer fluid, usually concentrates to be diluted depending on lowest operating temperature.

Then Rain-X got smart and created washer fluid for a good price, no need to dilute, which does a great job cleaning, using a slightly soapy consistency like you wish gas station squeegee buckets had.

Trust Rain-X, they’ve spent over 40 years perfecting their products.

This is the ONLY washer fluid I use in my cars, year round. I’ve applied Rain-X Original Glass Water Repellent to the exterior glass of every car I’ve owned since the mid 1970’s. The combined effects of Rain-X Original Glass Water Repellent, Rain-X water repellency wiper blades, and this All Season Rain-X Washer Fluid, means that I can often drive in the rain without using the wipers at more than the lowest intermittent setting.

I intentionally fill the washer fluid reservoir with this Rain-X washer fluid before I take the car in for service at a dealership or local repair facility, because they try to be helpful and top off the reservoir with the ‘blue stuff’.

The ‘blue stuff’ also cleans the windshield but makes it necessary to re-apply Rain-X Original Glass Water Repellent more frequently.

I’ve been using this fluid for a few years now, I specifically like it so much because when it rains, no matter how hard, I literally don’t even need to use my wipers. The raindrops just run right off! Also it does an excellent job at cleaning and has never frozen on me.

The only drawback I can think of of this rain X washer fluid is that it’s stains my washer reservoir orange. I don’t think it would matter to 99% of retailers, but there’s always is that 1% who might.

I was almost put off by some other reviews but following the directions I cleaned the surfaces and dried them prior to applying this treatment. Although I don’t ride the m/bike in the rain often, I was caught out the other day (thanks Melbourne) and the water off my helmet and bike screen (not that you look through that unless you were laying on the tank!) beaded up and ran off beautifully- quite happy with the results.

Similarly, the PVC windshield on the boat has been almost impossible to see through when light rain/mist hit it meaning unzipping it and sticking my head out into the elements when navigating channel/ jetty.

Cleaned and dried, then applied has vastly improved the beading properties of the zip up screen on my half-cabin making boating in adverse elements more enjoyable and more importantly, safer. I say follow the directions and you can’t go wrong with brand.

I have been looking for this to use on my motorcycle windshield. Finally found it on the Walmart website. You have to order it and have it shipped to the store of your choice to pickup it up there. Can’t use the regular RainX on the plastic windshields.

With so many cycle out there, I was surprised that none of the auto parts stores carry it. I use it on both side of the windshield and it works great. You can actually see through the rain when you use it.

It also helps when cleaning bugs off the windshield. The come off more easily.

I know the scent shouldn’t even be a priority, but I’ve got to say I just love how this stuff smells. Every time I spray it while driving, I can smell it in my car. It’s fresh and clean-smelling, like a new car smell.

On to the actual performance, it works amazingly for cleaning the windshield. Cuts through bugs like nothing else. I even dump some directly from the bottle onto a rag to clean my other windows. Will repurchase again and again.

Great wiper fluid that leaves a coat of Rain-X to help keep stuff from sticking in the first place. Rain will bead off allowing less use of the wipers while it’s raining. Hot summer bugs should still be rinsed while fresh – if they dry on, they’ll still need to be scrubbed.

I use this in the summer, and the antifreeze version in the winter to keep the grime down. It does have a strong odor, and is a little more expensive than the other stuff.

I stopped by the store to have my battery tested when the low wash fluid light came on. Since I had a $10 gift card from a rebate, I grabbed a jug of this stuff, and WOW!!! Before, I was using plain tap water and thought the results were okay and tap water costs nothing.

After refilling with this stuff, the windshield was completely clear after only two passes, and this stuff also includes rainx additives that make any excess fluid bead up and roll off the glass instead of streaking.

This is a huge improvement, considering that my work parking lot is rather dusty. Unless you go through like a gallon every week, this stuff is very inexpensive for the value it offers!.

I have been using this for a long time and always recommend people to buy it. It works amazingly well at repelling rain! Most of the time I don’t even need to use my windshield wipers as the rain just runs off quickly! Highly recommend this one.

I’ve never lived in a snowy country before so wonder how well it would work with frost.

I previously used Prestone version of both products, but couldn’t find them. Rain-X versions fit the bill… and work fine.

Have used RainX for years. It lasts at least a year. Usually I dont need the wipers in the rain, except downpours.

This stuff is the best on the market and when you treat your windshield, let’s say monthly, the only time you use wipers is when you’re stopped. Any wind speed greater than 15 mph blows water droplets cleanly from the surface.

I am a food delivery driver and I often work when it’s dark out and during winter it snows a lot. The day I received the Rain-X in the mail I immediately Put 1/3 of the bottle it my newly filled washer fluid tank.

I sprayed it a few times and noticed the difference right away. My windshield had been quite dirty from a snow storm the day before that I had barely scrapped off with a gas station squeegee. These was a clear line showing where the wipers has cleaned my windshield with the Rain-X vs.

the gas station squeegee around the edges that the wipers don’t get. My windshield was crystal clear while the rest of my car was dirty. I continued to spray the fluid during the night while I was out driving and it continued to snow.

I was able to see apartment building numbers more easily than ever. The only thing I’m not super confident on is that the bottle says 1/3 should last with a full bottle of windshield washer fluid. I feel like I’ve noticed a difference and that my windshield isn’t as clear the more I’ve used that initial 1/3 part.

Maybe that’s because the snow has been so heavy lately. I might try refilling or using more since it does work well, just not as long as stated maybe. Also store the bottle right side up, do not allow to lay down.

Mine fell over in the truck and leaked a little. Would recommend!.

this product is as good as it gets! it could use a little better “deicing” properties but what can you expect from a cold product spraying onto a Frozen windshield. it’s best quality is applying Rain-X on your windshield at every time you use your wiper blades that’s brilliant.

you can get you a set of Rain-X wiper blades to add to this fine product and it’s constantly putting Rain-X on your windshield and you won’t even need wiper blades sooner than later use it for a couple months and the water just beads right off.

I love walking in to Auto zone. The employees go above and beyond to help. I had bought some windshield washer fluid and needed help getting my new wiper blade on. The employee did not hesitate to help me.

The temp this morning is 17˚F. I used remote start to start my vehicle and get it warmed up. When I got inside it, I tried to use my windshield washer fluid to finish off the small amount of frost left on my windshield but I got nothing.

The wipers came on and worked but no fluid came out. Definitely a misleading branding.
