20 Best Water Packs For Running (2023 Updated)

The Trailrunner 2 is fantastic! This was my first time using a hydration pack- always wanted to try one for my hikes, and the Trailrunner 2 did not disappoint! Super comfortable- you forget it’s even there.

Very user-friendly, and has lots of straps/velcro/adjustable parts to make sure it’s a perfect fit and doesn’t get in the way of whatever adventure you’re on! I used it every day for a 3 week road trip where I hiked 10-15 miles/day, and now I can’t imagine hiking without it! Durable, lightweight, and easy to use.

If you don’t need the extra pockets/storage in some of the other hydration pack models, then Trailrunner 2 is the one for you!.

My friend has recently started hiking and is figuring out the ‘gear’ she does or doesn’t need. She liked having water with her but hated carrying a water bottle, so I bought her a Trailrunner Backpack having heard good things about it in the past.

She absolutely LOVES it. She said it’s super lightweight, so it doesn’t hurt to carry long distances and keeps her hydrated while still keeping her hands free. It’s become a go-to pack for all her hiking and running adventures and I was so happy she loved her gift! Added bonus, the bladder comes with the pack so you don’t have to make multiple purchases.

Love this hydration pack! It is perfect for day hikes, bike rides, and short adventures. It holds a sufficient amount of water and isn’t too heavy. It is comfortable to wear and easy to adjust! trailrunner10.

I was a big fan of the previous version of this vest but couldn’t get the old sizing to work for me. XS/SM was too small and S/M was too big, and I’m pretty average-sized at 34A. Osprey did away with mixed sizing and the super chafy side strap adjusters, and the M in this current version is a great fit.

Also, the zippered pocket on the left side now holds my phone a little lower, so the pressure is off of my chest. Other than these excellent refinements, the rest of the vest is mostly the same. It has many useful pockets that have reasonable depths and flex.

The pocket for the reservoir is separate from another large backpack compartment in front of it. The back sits much higher than most vests, so it feels cooler. I also really appreciate the “floaty” feel.

I ran for a while in a Salomon vest, and yes, they do not bounce or chafe, but they accomplish that by having tons of contact with your body which in the end I didn’t like. And I do like that the Osprey Dyna is snug enough to be secure, but the arm holes, collar area, and bottom of the vest sit away from the body.

It could just be a personal sensory thing, but it feels much better. I highly recommend this hydration pack. Definitely a joy to wear.

Great system as it is a hydration pack with lots of capacity that also lets you carry odds and ends for a day hike. Very good accessibility while on the move. The vest shape is a great fit and works equally well on trail running and longer day hikes, rock climbing, snow shoeing, etc… so comfortable I forget it’s there.

Breathes very well even for a very sweaty person (my case). So worth the price for the quality design and so many little helpful features: 1) hip pockets and cargo areas have ample space. 2) secure front mesh pockets and microscopic comfort adjustments, that you think are seldom necessary, but so helpful on long days! 3) The material is very lightweight yet sturdy.

If it falls upside down, nothing will fall from it. 4) There’s also a tethered whistle and elastic lassos hidden inside. 5) The chest clips can be a bit of an issue in the beginning, but they are easy to clip on the fly, secure, simple to adjust and have quick release.

This is a fantastic combo utility pack that, once learned to properly operate, will outperform expectations. Highly recommend. Thank you Osprey!.

Overall, I think the backpack itself is great! I typically purchase unisex backpacks and find them to not fit perfectly. The fit of this backpack is amazing. It’s great for shorter day hikes. It actually fit a lot more than I originally anticipated.

In addition to the reservoir, I had multiple snacks, a 32 oz hydroflask, sunglasses and a few other small items. It felt surprisingly light, likely due to the good fit. The only issue I have with this relates to the reservoir.

I was under the impression that the reservoir would be exactly the same as other osprey hydraulic lt reservoirs. As far as I’m aware it is incredibly similar, however this reservoir does not include the quick disconnect shown on all the other images I see of this reservoir online.

It is a bit of pain to have to have to take the reservoir tube out of the pack after every use. I realize that you can purchase the quick disconnect separately, but the description on the website led me to believe that it would include this feature.

Overall, I still really enjoy the pack.

Just purchased this vest from the Osprey-Amazon store. Took it on an 11km trail hike last weekend and it performed great. Another reviewer said the water sloshes around – sure, if you don’t vent the air of the bladder before you go running.

The 2. 5 litre reservoir is a welcome inclusion and will come in very handy on long hikes with minimal water sources. The bladder is easy to get in and out. The multiple zippered pockets are appreciated.

Snacks on the hip. Garmin mini on the should. Extra things like gloves, gloves, beenie, ext on the lower outside. The open pockets on the shoulder straps will accommodate my Salomo 500ml soft flasks.

While I haven’t had to pack my poles, I’m usually using them on the climbs and steep descents, I can see how they’d be easily mounted. There’s an outer mesh cover that stretches over quite a lot for easy access.

I had my GoreTex jacket, first-aid kit, and gaiters safely secured in there. The main bag is perfect for all that you’d need in a long day hike. and, if you pack right, minimal, and light, you could get away with a 2-day fastpacking trip.

I’m 5′ 11″, athletic build, with a 48″ chest. The M/L fits really well. The vest is easy to put on, the chest straps are adjustable and sinch up quite comfortably, as does the waist belt (a bit narrow but whatever).

After 4 hours of hiking in the backcountry, the part of the vest that touches my back was damp. Expected. Happy to say it fits perfectly in a large laundry bag and washed well. So while I’ve only got 11km into this vest, I’m anticipating many kms of fun.

The construction looks solid and materials are light. This vest compliments my other Salomon 8 & 12 litre vest. I’m super happy with the purchase.

I really wanted to love this pack. The sale price is great considering the bladder pack you get with it. It has good storage with accessible pockets. I also really likes the chest strap system. My biggest issue is with how the pack feels when you’ve got the bladder and flasks filled and in place.

The bladder pack and flasks push against your back and chest in an uncomfortable way. I believe it’s due to the material choice on the pack which makes the bladder and flasks push more towards your body rather than outwards.

I know it’s unavoidable to have some push back towards your body, especially if you have a full bladder pack and your pack stuffed with gear. However, I have a Salomon ADV skin 12 and a REI Swiftland pack.

Neither of these are uncomfortable to wear when fully loaded. For those who dont use bladders in the first place, i’d still avoid this pack since the chest flask pockets are not comfortable either when using 500ml flasks.

I purchased a hydration pack last August and have been very happy with it until today. It leaks at the insertion point from the straw to the bladder. On inspection, the O ring is loosened and deformed.

As a matter of maintenance, I disconnect the straw and allow it to dry completely with each use to avoid mold growth and have been successful. But I noticed it getting progressively difficult to remove and seat properly and now it leaks regardless of placement of the straw.

Now it leaks whenever placed in the connection. Can I repair this with a replacement O ring or must it be replaced completely? Is it still under warranty – as it has been less than a year? I’ve loved the design of the pack with this one exception.

Hopefully you’ll be able to help me navigate this problem.

It’s the recommended size for my Nathan Vaporhowe 4L vest and as such, fits perfectly. Sliding the plastic top open and closed is sticky but it doesn’t leak because it’s tight (it’s also new so that will slide easier in time).

It came with a strong plastic smell/taste but a 24-hr baking soda/lemon juice soak made a signifcant difference. Adding a Nuun tab to my water since has helped with any residual taste, which improves with every fill (I’ve been using it for two weeks).

The hose was too long for me so I cut about 10 inches off at the bladder. Reattaching the hose was a tight squeeze, but I did it and it doesn’t leak. All in all, I recommend this bladder.

Disappointed in the new 1. 5L bladder. The old 1. 5 liter bladder had a quick release valve, to easily remove the hose for easy cleaning. The new bladder does not have a quick release valve although the bladder itself says “periodically lubricate O-ring for plug-n-play” – there is no O-ring/plug-n-play.

The hose is not easily removed/inserted from/to the bladder. Very disappointed this has gone backwards in usefulness. The 2. 0L bladder does have the quick release valve, wish it continued in the smaller version.

I used a Mountain Vest 3. 0 for many years and loved it, I would have never replaced it until I had a nasty bike crash and really tore it up. Now enter the Mountain Vest 5. 0, a vastly inferior product, here are my observations after many frustrating runs with the 5.

0. Phone Zip Pocket – Spacious and easy to access on the 3. 0, with the 5. 0 I can barely fit an iPhone mini in a very small case, and the pocket is positioned such that you really need to remove the pack to get the phone in and out.

Pockets in front of the bottle pocket – large pocket each side great for putting gloves and hats in and out while running on the 3. 0, each of these pockets was vertically divided into two on the 5. 0 such that it is hard to fit gloves and hats.

Waist strap/suspension – adjustable straps stored in two large zippered pockets on the 3. 0 which were great to also store things in, on the 5. 0 no pockets with the new “string” based adjustment system.

Back pockets/hydration bladder storage – one large and two small zippered pockets on the 3. 0, one large with small internal zippered pockets on the 5. 0. Body bottles/retention system – My only complaint with the 3.

0 was that the body bottles would fall down into the bottle pockets or bend over and try to fall out forward as they emptied, I solved this problem with a little gadget I made myself which held the bottes securely in place but it was a bit of a pain to remove the bottles to refill them.

On the 5. 0 the new bottle design with retention system works fine, but the hard upper portion of the bottles digs painfully into your ribs as the bottles empty. Bottom line, don’t buy the 5. 0, it is terrible in comparison to the 3.

0, I will be shopping other brands if I can’t find a seamstress repair my 3. 0.

Replaced Ultra 4. 0 Vest after 3+ years of many ultras, including 100s, and long runs/days in the mountains. 4. 0 was great, 5. 0 is better. Appreciate the larger lower front pockets over the 4. 0. The cinch system is simpler and larger.

Improved position of smaller zippered packet in back. Plenty of room for required gear for 100s and self-supported all day runs. I use bottles, no bladder, and they stay put. Often use poles and they stow well.

I’m a little slower getting the new front straps on and off than the old ones, but probably will get better.

Webbing snapped and removed itself 4 hours into a hundred mile race, only my 4th long run in this thing. So yep, everything fell out. Had to stop, rethread it and tie it at the break. Quite surprising considering my older UD vest still has the same webbing despite being over a decade old and all the zips being seized up ! So.

be warned. Besides that, the pockets all feel a bit small. Annoyingly, have to unpack nearby pockets to get bottles in and vice versa. The fit is on the only real improvement, and a good one. No more neck rash.

I used the CAMELBAK Chase Bike Vest with the 1. 5 L bladder on three trips totaling sixty miles, all on rail trails. I have used hydration bladders in my day pack and backpack when hiking and backpacking but have resisted cycling with one because I thought I would not like the feel of it on my back.

The CAMELBAK Chase Bike Vest convinced me otherwise. Even with the 1. 5 liter filled, my wallet in a pack back pocket and keys in a pack front pocket, I barely noticed I had it on. Sipping from the tube was easy, much easier than reaching down for a water bottle.

As a bonus, there was no misaligning the water bottle when trying to put it back and having to stop to pick it up when it fell to the ground! The only downside was hearing a barely discernable sloshing sound coming from the bladder after I had been drinking from it.

Even though the drinking tube is equipped with a shut off to keep the tube from leaking, I kept the valve open while cycling because it was much easier to drink from. It did not leak while I was cycling.

The shut off valve is a nice feature for preventing leaks when transporting the pack. The bladder is easily removed from the pack for filling and cleaning, and the detachable hose means that the hose does not need to be removed form the pack when cleaning or filling the bladder.

The fill lid is large enough to make filling and cleaning easy. The CAMELBAK Chase Bike Vest comes in one unisex size but with side and sternum straps is very adjustable. It rode comfortably high on my back and allowed access to my jersey back pockets.

With a couple front pockets on the vest, however, I didn’t have anything in my jersey back pockets! The CAMELBAK Chase Bike Vest seems well designed and built to last with more pockets than I have yet needed or used.

I got an opportunity to really test out this vest in different settings over the last week. I know it’s a bike vest, and I did test it during some mountain biking, but I also used it for some long runs/hikes (~15-20 miles).

For both biking and running, I really liked the features this pack offers – (1) the clips to hold the hydration hose in place are great; (2) the left chest pocket is large enough to comfortably hold my Samsung Note; (3) the other 3 stretch front pockets can hold a good amount of food/gels/salt caps/etc even when a phone is in the phone pocket; and (4) there are several pockets (and a sub-pocket) in the back that offer the ability to really organize gear/food/whatever, which I don’t typically see on packs this size, and there was ample room for me to go out on the trail for 6-7 hours carrying a rain jacket, food, and all the other necessities for the day.

I did swap the 1. 5L bladder with a 1. 8L bladder to ensure I had some extra water for the day, and the pack held the larger bladder just fine. But I will note that the bladder probably needs to be a shorter and wider profile to fit properly (not one of the longer, narrower profile bladders).

As for fit, I am a bit torn. I think it fits great for biking (which is the intended purpose of this product), but I often bike and trail run. So I would prefer a vest/pack that is great for both. When running with the vest (i.

e. , bouncing around a bit more), it feels like the straps sit really wide and almost want to pull back off your shoulders. I tightened the two chest straps and the pack never actually fell off, but it still felt a little off.

I have fairly normal width shoulders, but the straps still seem to sit really wide. Because it does sit wide, my shoulders were a little more sore than I am used to after long day of trail running with some gear.

I wouldn’t say this is a deal breaker, but certainly something to consider depending on your reason for buying the vest. Overall, I think the vest has great potential. If you are buying it only for biking, I would highly recommend.

If you are thinking of also running/hiking with it, I would try it on to see how it sits on your shoulders before fully committing. The features are fantastic and the ability to organize with such a little vest is one of the best I’ve seen.

Summary: A comfortable, light weight hydration vest for those looking for a well organized minimalist carry that provides easy accessibility to drink, food, etc. while riding. I started trail riding with water bottles but found that I never drank enough on the fly, so I switched to a hydration pack.

This is great for day-long rides, but I always felt a hydration pack was a bit much for a shorter after work, or quick early morning ride. Therefore, I was excited to see that CamelBak adapted the runner’s vest for cycling use.

The vest sits high on the back and with a 1. 5 liter hydration reservoir is short enough to allow access to jersey pockets if you want to carry additional items. I love the front vest pockets. The main left side fabric pocket is zippered and large enough for a plus size phone.

The right side pockets are stretch mesh and perfect for energy bars or snacks. The hydration tube runs along the right side pocket and is well secured by two hooks. Too bad that CamelBak didn’t include a cover for the bite value as it is easy to get it dirty when the vest is off your back.

Besides the hydration reservoir pocket, the back of the vest has two zippered pockets with an open stretch stuff pocket in-between. The main pocket has a small zippered pocket inside perfect for a wallet and includes a key ring hook.

Even with the back pockets full, the stuff pocket can accommodate a wind shell. As the vest sits high on your back, don’t expect to get anything in or out of the stuff pocket while the vest is on. While the vest has better ventilation than a hydration pack, it still is going to cause a wet back on a hot day.

Which brings me to the black color. Carrying a black object on your back on a hot, sunny day is not the best idea. Carrying liquid that you want to keep cool in a black object on your back on a hot, sunny day is doubly not the best idea.

CamelBak needs to produce this pack in light gray and/or light brown. As far as the water reservoir goes, CamelBak has pros and cons like all of the reservoir brands. So far I haven’t had any of the cap leakage issues that some other CamelBak users have mentioned.

I will update my review as I use the vest more.

I bought this a few months ago and the longer I have it the less I like it. I had a different Nathan pack before this that I used for almost 10 years and I loved it so I decided to try again but am very disappointed with this purchase.

I need to have dog treats and my phone readily accessible in the front pockets when I run. Unfortunately the front pockets are not able to accommodate either. If I bend over to tie my shoe dog treats fall out of the pockets.

And only one of the pockets in the front comes even close to working for my cell phone. I have a normal sized cell phone and it bounces around so much in the pocket it is uncomfortable. My phone will sorta fit in one of the front pockets but it still bounces around enough that the side buttons get pushed and my headphones turn off.

I doubt that the pockets are durable. They are thin and flimsy. If you have no need for the front pockets the pack might work for you. If you plan on using the front pockets regularly pick a different pack.

I would have loved to exchange this for a different pack but every time I look online anything I want in my size is currently out of stock so I am stuck with it. The pack is very adjustable in size as advertised.

If you came here as concerned as I did about the pros and cons of this pack don’t worry I’m gonna go over that right now! Some context into this pack I’ve worn it about say 3-4 months using it with and without the bladder with different bottles to test it out to see what works and what doesn’t.

Currently I’m using an amphipod branded bottle with the left pocket and my phone in the right one and it works remarkably well! My phone does have a bit of space between the strap and pocket but that hasn’t caused any slippage or any damage.

I’ve used my pack to hold camera gear, snacks, clothing, exc and sometimes I’ve used it as a daytripper pack and it’s worked fine for when I’m out for 2-3 hours at a time! This pack is a remarkable piece of gear for $85 ( bought it at $100 ) so I’d highly recommend people give this pack a shot Pros * lots of space * compatible with other brand bottles * very lightweight without chafing * lots of adjustability with the straps * good for more muscular builds or skinnier builds *can run with this shirtless without too much chaffing ( thanks to VA summers I’ve tested this for about a dozen or so runs ) Cons * the straps do loosen over time ( can be fixed by tying a knot at the adjustment point where you don’t want it to pass ) * looseness in the front pockets may result in slippage if you’re doing more intense trails or biking * straps may annoy some people with how they hang * no built in whistle Overall this pack is very versatile and has been my go to for about 2-3 months for about give or take 400-500 miles worth of running so I’d highly recommend getting this pack for your kit!.

I spent a lot of time reading reviews and trying to find the perfect hydration vest that could go the distance comfortably. I have the Camelback Marathoner I’ve been using for 6 years and absolutely love it! I’ve kept it in great shape and even with the hundreds of miles, it still works great.

My only issue is the front pocket doesn’t fit a can of bear spray… I need a vest that can fit the spray as I run where bears are present and I need the protection. This Nathan vest looked good but definitely has some design flaws.

I filled the bladder half way and set out for my run. I was not even out of the my neighborhood when I noticed the hydration bladder rubbing at the base of my neck. There is absolutely no buffer between you and the bladder, there is only the super thin fabric.

I then noticed the tube bouncing around! The magnetic piece on the mouth part of the tube had fallen off! I turned around, threw the Nathan vest in the house and grabbed my old camelback. I may just need to find a comfortable waist belt for my bear spray.

I could not imagine running 26 miles with the Nathan vest. It was not comfortable and for serious runners, this is not a great vest. I still can’t wrap my head around the price either. The fabric felt cheap and I did not see anything special that put this vest at this price point.

The hydration tuning was better quality than my Camelback, but that was about all I saw good about it. I returned it asap.

Nathan sent me this as a replacement for my VaporHowe vest, as they said this is the new version (I’d reached out for help as my zipper was stuck on the VaporHowe and WD-40 wouldn’t even budge it). So that was awesome customer service.

Unfortunately the sizing seems to be inconsistent with that of its predecessor, the VaporHowe. In the same size in the Pinnacle, I’ve experienced bouncing and, consequently, chafing. There is no side strap to tighten, only the two front straps.

This makes a big difference unfortunately. In addition, the front bottle pockets seem to be deeper, or perhaps the thin strips that hold the straws in place are placed higher, as the straws on my bottles don’t stay where they should, and then wiggle around as I run.

I would recommend sizing down if you are transitioning from the VaporHowe. The plus is that it has a second zipper pocket (hopefully this one won’t get stuck).

light and very practical for long outings, transporting a lot of things in a small space. no awkward feeling when running.

Sauf que lors de la mise en place d’une flasque de 500ml à l’arrière, l’arrière de la ceinture descend et ballote ensuite. Si on met la flasque à l’avant, cela fonctionne bien sauf si on rajoute un téléphone dans la pochette.

Bref, la ceinture qui est prévu pour une flasque de 500 ml n’est pas assez comprimé sur la taille. Du coup, on ne sait pas trop si c’est un problème de choix de taille ou de conception. Dommage. J’ai renvoyé l’article donc je n’ai pas testé la ceinture en course.

J’ai finalement acheté une compressport (plus petite taille suivant le guide) en matière stretch sans poche zippé : parfait pour une bouteille de 500ml. A voir à l’usage en course.

I love this thing, really thoughtful design. I’ve spent about 50 miles with it. There are pouches where you want them. I can really load this thing up too. Wind shell, 2 liters of water, 6 gels, headlamp, gloves, small first aid, poles, and an extra layer, all of it! Two downsides: Somehow the flasks leak, I’m never sure where it’s coming from, it almost seems like they’re sweating.

It’s not significant water loss so I don’t really worry about it but it does happen. This is a unisex vest, which fits really well. I’d size down because of that. To this point also the front clip rubs quite a bit and I’ve gotten one pretty bad sore from it.

It kind of rubs through my shirts I’m seeing wear on the shirts that I run in with. That could just be what happens when you wear running vests though.

I purchased the Distance Wind Shell, Cirque Gaiters, Distance 4 Hydration Vest, Midweight Softshell Mitts, Distance Spike Traction Device, and Raven Ice Axe. So far I have made use of every piece of gear except for the ice axe and have loved each item! The Distance Wind Shell is perfect for winter running and keeps you dry without making you sweat.

The gaiters and mitts have been pivotal for keeping my hands and feet warm. The microspikes have broadened my horizons for where I can run in the front range. And the distance 4 hydration vest is perfect for any longer distance endeavors.

I would recommend any of these items to trail runners or peak-baggers looking to up their winter/springtime activities.

The good: I really like the fit of this vest. It was easy to adjust and barely moves when I’m running. Also the pole system is rad and there are plenty of places to store your gear. The bad: The bottles dig into your chest when they are not full.

The solution is to move the bottle down to the lower pocket but I’ll just be using a Nathan bottle that is much more narrow. The other annoying thing is not having a pocket in the front that can easily fit my phone.

The zipper pockets the phone just flops around. I end up just putting it in the rear pocket. Also maybe a zippered pocket in the back to secure things like a phone/ID/keys? Overall it’s a good pack… it just needs some minor tweaks to it to make it a great pack.

Amazing pack, fits everything I need for running on the trails. Very comfortable. If your thinking about buying a backpack for trail running, buy this one.

En este tipo de camelbak he notado mejora y las molestias de espalda me han desaparecido, todo ello repartiendo el peso en la parte anterior y posterior. La parte trasera llevo el pack de herramientas, cajita de parches+vlvula de repuesto, un candado + el cable para atar la bici, botelln pequeito de cera lubrificante (para los casos de emergencia), 3 klennex, espacio para el bocata, una mancha y por supuesto agua.

En la parte delantera llevo el mvil, las llaves de casa, un par de barritas, dos sobre de sales minerales y un billete de 20 para emergencias. Lo recomiendo por versatilidad, de fcil organizacin, lo tienes a mano lo imprescindible, se ajusta muy bien al pecho y a ms tienes acceso a los bolsillos del mallot.

Lstima del precio, pero aun as es una buena inversin.

My intention to buy this hydration pack was to use it both training and races. I bought this item for: (i) Winter running where conditions may change while I am on the run and wanted to ensure I had gear with me to protect me from the elements.

(ii) The ability to race up to Marathon distance and be as self sufficient as possible. (iii) Use it for trail walks Against the above reasons, I can recommend the above product: (i) I have run 3 races so far with the pack, one of which I had a PB.

I found the pack to be light and pick in place without wobbling around while I run. It also allows your body to ventilate but bear in mind that any material obstructing your skin and the environment no matter how good it is will make you sweat.

On the other hand, on races that are on cold days (around 0-5C degrees) having the pack on will the cold wind blows is a pleasant feeling as it keeps my upper torso warm. (ii) While it is not as roomy as the 10 liter version, I found this to be a plus because it makes me thing harder what I really need to carry on a long distance race (10k and above).

What I like about it is that I can have my phone, keys, gels on the front and use the back for a rain jacket (or even an insulated jacket) if it start raining (or using the insulated jacket to keep myself warm immediately after the race without having to go to the bag drop area to get my clothes after the race.

I generally do not like using both water bottles with it because it makes me feel heavy. In races however I run without the bottles and I pick up a bottle from the stations and the pack allows me while running to securely place the bottle in the bottle pocket without issues.

(iii) It is worth mentioning that this pack performs well for trails as it does on runs.

I have a love/hate relationship with this vest. What I love: It has so much storage that is easily accessible and well thought out. I can have the thing packed to the gills, and it is still super comfortable.

It never feels like my stuff is pushing or digging into my body. At first, I didn’t think I’d like the flasks, but the straws are actually pretty convenient. What I hate: The mesh on the inside is rough.

The vest rubs on my collarbone when I run, and the first time I used it I ended up with a raw spot because it went beyond chafing. The mesh also causes my tank top to pill, a problem I didn’t have with my non-Salomon vest.

The back isn’t as breathable as my non-Salomon vest either. By the end of a long run my back under the vest is soaked and disgusting, as if all the moisture has been trapped there. The opening/mouth of the flasks is a little on the small side, making it hard for me to pour scoops of drink mix in.

Overall, I like this vest better for long runs and races because the storage and comfort outweigh the sweaty back and having to tape up to prevent chafing. But I don’t like it enough to use it exclusively.

I bought this to replace my Ultimate Direction vest that is now too big from the weight I have lost cycling and trail running. I just took this out on a 2x loops 15 mile Dog Mountain / Auspurger trail run yesterday.

It took me a few minutes to dial in the fit but once I had the vest locked in it performed great. Yes, it does get hot with padded back but it was also a hot day in the 80’s and steep trail as that run was nearly 6,000 feet in gain.

I appreciated that extra padding at times as well. I could drink from water bottles without removing them. I like the slip pockets for Larabars, snacks, you could even stuff a lightweight windbreaker, gloves or beanie in them for easy access.

The zippered pocket was super handy for my ID, extra set of wired headphones, cell phone, key fob for car. This vest has a ton of storage space and this was just the 5. I wish I had this two weeks ago when I ran the Timberline Trail around Mt Hood.

I will test more extensively on Loowit Trail here soon around Mt St Helens. I did not have any neck chaffing as some other have mentioned.

I’ve been using the CamelBak about 3 times a week. I’m currently training for a half-marathon and I’m constantly increasing my mileage. Hydration is key – and very nice to have while I’m on the trails.

The pack does everything right. It fits snug and high on my back. It also has two pockets that I use to keep my keys, wallet, and phone secure. There’s not a lot of room, but afterall, its a minimalistic design.

Two key features I enjoy – first, the bladder lid is large and is easy to hold. It’s easy to clean and add ice cubes for extremely hot days. And it has a small paddle handle around the lid that makes it easy to hold while filling up the bladder.

Second, the bladder has a hook at the top that prevents it from sagging in the bag. After several miles, the bladder stays in place. This is a very small and simple feature, but shouldn’t be overlooked.

I’ve taken it out for 2 long runs so far of ~15 miles each. After a mile or two, you get used to carrying it, hearing the sloshing sound of the water and it didn’t weigh me down at all. Remaining well hydrated has helped me extend my training runs with relative ease.

I will probably take it every time I run over 10 miles going forward. As others have mentioned, the bladder fit is snug in it’s holder, but it’s not a major inconvenience unless you’re in rush.

Decided to go with a smaller, lighter camelbak for Old Ghost Road so purchased the xct. Really happy with the purchase, the days were hotter than hades and this was excellent for less sweat buildup compared to my other camelbak and was ideal for carrying my water, lunch in the rear pockets and snacks in the waist pockets.

Well designed nice bit of kit.

Yo adquirí el chaleco porqué quería 2l (y cierto, ya cabe pero super apretujado). Lo que mejoraría es unos bolsillos laterales que “comunican” con la espalda. Otro “pero” es que sería más agradable si las tiras delanteras fueran tipo elástico como las anteriores aonijie, lo hecho en falta.

Aunque hay que decir que el sistema actual permite apretar con solo una mano y yendo en marcha. En general un buen chaleco de hidratación en relación al precio. Lo volveria a comprar, aunque se agradecerían estas mejoras.

Y por mejorar el acceso a la parte trasera una cremellera mas larga pq no me cabe casi ni la mano ya no digo meter algun tipo de material obligatorio.

Solo son comentarios constructivos el producto esta muy logrado y es comodo pero los ultras vas muy cargado y creo que este producto en algun aspecto es mejorable.

La parte trasera permite expandirse y contraerse para adaptarse a la carga y lleva un compartimento para una bolsa de agua. Tiene enganches delanteros para bastones en una posición cómoda para ponerlos y quitarlos sobre la marcha.

Really comfortable, ventilated, and capacious vest. I wish the bottles had wide mouth openings. To fill in tailwind or other powders mid run. Hydration accessories are out of stock, but I’ve ordered then from Hydrapak.

Wide mouthed bottles and a bladder. Those cost 70% of what the best did. Would have choice if 1. 2 l bottle based carrying capacity or 2 l bladder in the back.

I can’t believe how comfortable this vest is. I was skeptical about the “no bounce” technology, but it really is that good! I’m shocked at how much I can fit it in it and the access to the back storage while wearing the vest is super impressive! Couldn’t be happier!.

The only thing I would change or add is something that holds or secures a bladder in the back upper area. I have several USWE bags and they all have a Velcro or some type of attachment to hold the bladder.

When you put on the Slope Runner you immediately fell that it is built and cut differently, the vest is snug without being tight and the water bottles don’t bounce of, even when fully filled. The loops are easy to adjust on the go and the bottles, once again, are really well made and easy to put on and off.

Please note that this bottles are wider and much easier to fill in aid stations. On the down side, and it is a big down side for some runners, there is no whistle!?!?! How could Patagonia forget this? It is mandatory in some races.

Please note that I use S size in Salomon Active Vest and that the Salomon Active vest in M feels very loose. The M in Patagonia is just perfect. If in doubt I would say to size above as it has adjustment loops on the side.

What I ran with to test: 2 full water flasks (. 5L each, comes with purchase) 1. 5L bladder in back filled just past 1L line (post market) Long sleeve pants in bladder pocket Thin running jacket with hood in the back top zipped pocket Head Lamp, roll of bandage, Emergency Blanket slid in to the back tubular side sleeve Passport in dedicated cellphone zip pocket(actual cell phone(pixel2) in the back pocket of pro-strider 5′.

Fits nicely) Collapsible silicone cup (diameter of a tennis ball) in the side sleeve Preparing for a race and wasn’t 100% happy with my ultimate direction scott jurek pack. The pack moved a bit too much, would start to chafe in random spots and would stretch as my run went longer and needed frequent adjustment.

I’m 13 days out from my race and decided to gamble with this pack knowing that I might be sinking in $140 for failed late change to my gear. HOWEVER, I went on a 7mile road run, which I think is a better test than in the trails as I feel running faster with more oscillation would test the product, and it performed a lot better than the UD vest.

First, the pack in general fits higher on the body, which gives you freer movement with the arms. Whether the position it sits is the reason or not, this pack feels more fit to the body, resulting in less movement of the pack and a huge factor in liking this one more.

With what I had, the 4L was just the right amount of capacity. 8L would have been too much room and the stuff would have bounced everywhere in the extra zip pocket. I didn’t anticipate this but the plastic slide piece for the bladder digs in to your shoulder blades a bit if you clip its top to the designated clips that are inside at the top of the back pack area.

I would either get a non-top slide bladder or don’t clip it at all and just let it sit. The water actually moves less and didn’t bother me for a 7-7:30min pace run for 7 miles. I’m reading that some people are having a tough time sliding a full water flasks.

My advice would be to pull out on the second opening below where the flask goes so the bottom of it doesn’t get caught as you’re trying to slide it in from the top. Overall, fantastic. Could not have been happier with my gamble.

Would highly recommend.

Like: I like that the vest sits high and tight on the body Like: It is lightweight and breathes well Like: The quality of materials is evident Like: The design of the vest and pocket locations is MOSTLY simplistic and minimal.

Like: The flasks have wide mouths for ease of ice cubes and refilling. Quality material too, the flasks are top notch. Like: The looks of the vest. Simple grey and yellow color scheme without obnoxious logos plastered all over it.

I appreciate that. Dislike: The cell phone pocket, which is located between your body and one of the flask pockets. When you have a full flask in there, you’ll feel your cell phone digging into your ribs.

Also, the pocket is a very tight fit for a cell phone and it is not waterproof, so if your phone isn’t waterproof and you have a protective case, the phone won’t fit. Dislike: The flasks are VERY challenging to put back into the chest pockets.

More difficult than any other vest I’ve tried. Dislike: The zipper pocket at the top of back pouch will inevitably work it’s way out of the back pouch, and will both bounce around on your back while you are running and make taking stuff out/putting stuff back into the back pouch while on the move a pretty difficult task.

That back pocket needs to be affixed to the vest on all four sides, not just one. I look forward to seeing improvements made on future models. The 9 trails shorts are my favorite running shorts of all time, I love their tech t-shirts, and I can’t wait for their vests to catch up and get dialed in.
