20 Best Uv Resistant Spray Paint (2023 Updated)

I read a good review on this to use in a fairy garden. You use Outdoor Mod-Podge on your little house, fairy, or whatever. Then you spray it with this to keep everything from fading in the sun. Be sure to get matte rather than glossy.

You may have trouble finding it. Krylon must be having production or shipping issues. I have not tried it yet, so this is secondhand knowledge. The guy specializes in fairy gardens. Krylon also makes a UV spray for artificial flowers.

I believe it says floral on it. Sometimes it is with the spray paint. Other stores have it with the flowers. I use it on the water resistant flowers that Michael’s sells for cemetery decoration.

I believe this is a solvent based spray, it contains ketone(s) (I’m not a chemist). So always, as with anything, test this product on small sample before coating a precious object or artwork. Krylon makes a variety of spray based top coats, some are meant for specific things like coating drawings or photographs–be mindful that these specifications are useful to you.

If you use this particular product, do it outdoors or in a properly ventilated (spray booth or the likes) room. Always wear a respirator. Let the object you sprayed off-gas in ventilation or outside for at least an hour.

It is likely to smell for up to 24hrs–and this stuff smells like poison. That sweet smell is the ketone, and yes it’s terrible for you. All of this said, when used properly, this product will produce a near bullet proof finish that protects against scratching and supposedly will not yellow.

I have objects that have been coated for a few years and seem to be holding true to that claim. If you are looking for a more conservation friendly “varnish” use Golden spray varnish or the likes. This has no indication that is it engineered to be conservation friendly.

The Krylon brand has been around a long time. Over the years they have diversified their paint from can only paints to spray paint, spray primer, as well as a multitude of extra ordinary spray products.

You can choose from matte, gloss, mirror finish, frosted glass look, clear finishes that act as a protector for the painted product and this, my favorite UV-Resistant Clear Acrylic Coating. I used this on my galvanized container for the front porch.

There is not a lot of sun where it is placed. Someone may have a front door that gets sun most of the day, this spray will give added protection to a wreath hanging on their front door.

Krylon has changed the push button design. And it doesn’t work well at all. I used to love this spray. I have used it for years. I have bought 8 cans over the last few months and NONE of them sprayed for longer than 5 seconds.

I cleaned the push button according to krylons instructions. Does it work? Sometimes but you still only get 5 second spray out of it before you have to clean again and hope it works another 5 seconds at the most.

I am a bit tired of having to drop the push button in acetone and hope for the best. Krylon needs to go back to the original push button on top…. you know…the design that works…. Until then I will use something else.

I hate it because I really love this stuff and have used it for almost 20 years. Why they changed to a faulty design is beyond me. But when people post a review about a faulty can, it is not just one can.

It is every can I purchase. So I am definitely done with it until Krylon fixes the push button design. This review is not on Walmart, it is on the Krylon company.

Great product. Used on the glass of a frame to tone down extreme reflection and glare. Use common sense when spraying. I sprayed it a foot or two away from the glass with a sweeping motion, did this a couple of times and it is perfect, I can now see the photo through the glass from any angle with very minimal reflection.

Like with any spray paint type product, if you spray too close, or too long, you will end up with foggy uneven clouds. I highly recommend this product and would even use it on a painting to tone down the sheen.

The GOOD: I have used Krylon spray paints for 30 years and always found them to be fast-drying, no runs, drips or errors, as their old ads use to say, so I trusted this for use on plastic auto trim. The BAD: HORRIBLE paint! I would swear it was Rust-Oleum with the associated bad attributes, easily runs, causing drips and laps.

Super light coating, still has drips and runs. Wait more than 30 minutes to add more coats, and the previous coat will wrinkle! Old Krylon never did this, but this all-surface Krylon paint is nothing like that.

The UGLY: That would be the finish you end up with! I have sprayed all kinds of surfaces using Krylon conventional paints for decades, including painting outdoor lighting fixtures in direct sun by day, and heated by the lamp at night, lasting for years with an excellent enduring finish.

Not this all-surface paint! Couldn’t get a good first light coat, and additional coats wrinkled the base coat. Very disappointed, and tossing out the rest of the can! Will never buy this again!.

Restore older vehicles, ATVs, and power equipment. Much better paint than Rust-Oleum, dries much faster. Some colors do take longer, mostly due to pigment. But to any having problems, spray is hard, you have to hit your next coat very close together or it just doesn’t work! And it’s not a mixed automotive paint so it doesn’t have timed reducers or hardners, so you have to really play with it.

I always pick krylon first because I never have any problems with runs, flaws, or fisheyes, even in areas where there have been oils and debris, like engine bays of old tractors. Even sticks super well to areas like that! Most don’t.

There are a lot of times most don’t want to clean out a paint gun just for little stuff so spray is the way to go. So not a model builder talking, or some dude working on a play house, ase certified auto body tech.

Krylon is good paint, just lighter pigments need more coats to get better coverage/hiding. It has more solvents in it for faster drying which makes it just a hare thinner. Rust-Oleum covers good but has a very long dry time.

But overall not bad either, just long wait period for small things. Have krylon on my farm tractor fenders, loader, and some implements. is holding nicely with no fading and no scratching.

The 5 star reviews must be paid reviews because this stuff is STRAIGHT TRASH. It covers nothing and is super runny to top it off. My usual brand Rustoleum 2x was out of stock in Key Lime so I tried this brand.

NEVER AGAIN!! If you actually want a spray paint that does what it’s supposed to do and is a dollar cheaper go with Rustoleum 2x it covers anything and isn’t runny like this garbage brand.

Using this to spruce up sections of the plain beige dashboard layout of my old, but unique minivan. The black Hammered Metal looks amazing and has a little shimmer to it I used the silver Hammered Metal on the post and base of my outdoor patio heater and that looks great as well.

Next I’m doing some old rims.

This was an excellent choice. I used it on a lamp that was previously gold. It was solid black and shiny. I didn’t use it on my tables because I thought it would be too black so I went with their less extreme black paint which worked perfect.

I did wipe the surfaces down first with water and paper towels and let dry them primed with Rust Oleum grey primer.

I love the Rust-oleum brands of assorted paints! The brand has copy cats but for all of our outdoor painting needs we always stick with the brand that works much better than the rest. There are cheaper alternatives but none that will work as well and cover as evenly.

If you have things outside that are metal and exposed to the elements, Rust-oleum can protect them from rust and corrosion. I use the products on any and everything that we store outside. From wheelbarrows, to lawn furniture anyone can easily apply and get great results.

I have tried the paint and spray in a can and always have had great results. I like that it only needs to be done once and the metals are protected fully from rain water and snow. We dont have a lot of storage available so we always try to give our metals a coating so they last a long time even if they are left outside without cover.

We also painted our ladder racks on our work truck and some metal on our mud jeeps and its been years since they were treated with Rust-oleum and they are still holding up great. No rust has come through and they still look like they are freshly painted.

If you go to any hardware store its almost guaranteed that you will see a store brand with a claim that the product is comparable to Rust-oleum and I reccomend skipping the other brands and paying a little extra for the real deal.

I tried the store brands in the past and it never did work as well. I highly reccomend people use this if they have metals outside exposed to the elements and Im sure nobody will be dissapointed with the results they get.

It is a bit more expensive then other brands that promise the same results but I know for sure its worth spending the few dollars more to get the better product. A little goes a long way and you dont need to be a professional painter to use it.

Its easy to apply and will last for a very long time. Its highly available in hardware stores and home improvement stores. It is somewhat expensive but worth the cost.

Ive spray painted countless items(sm to lrg) in my lifetime & this was the worst experience I’ve ever had!! I always use Rustoleum. General I use Satin finish but have used gloss & several of their speciality paints (metallic, hammered, etc).

Have always had Great results with painters touch 2X Ultra Cover primer & paint in one. I prep material to be painted per instructions. Used “flat black” before & hoped the “Matte” finish paint would be about the same.

My 2 old nesting tables on my lanai needed a refresh & liked the color of the “Ultra Matte”-” Deep Teal”(great price too) for the table tops & used Slate matte color for the legs. First application on legs went fine with No issues & covered with 2 coat’s with the less than :30min 2nd coat time(didn’t want to apply 2nd & have to wait the 48hrs time).

Have always done my 2nd coats this way. When spraying Teal on tops noticed a strange flaky looking material in finish in certain areas?!? Paint was well shaken & again with 2nd coat! Assume this material has something to do w/ultra matte paint? This was a sporadic issue but looked terrible & super rough finish! Also had a problem w/lrg clumps of paint coming out of nozzle which really messed up the finish as well! Waited 48 hrs & lightly sanded.

Got rid of most of the flake like material but was not a great fix for botched areas from the clumping problem! These tables have several plants on them so they will cover some of the messed up areas.

But there are still some major problems with visable areas. I had hoped clear coat would straighten out some of the defects, WRONG!! This paint did the same thing & even worst (than colored paint)! Tables look terrible!! Should of just left them be after the 1st color coat! Really bummed what should of been a 1 afternoon job has now dragged out to over 2 wks!! Had to order more teal (2 day ship time)since 1 can defective & stopped spraying with 3/4 can still full.

Then 3 day wait for clear paint to arrive. Wait 48hrs for original paint to cure, 2 times(96 hrs total due to defective can) Then weather didn’t cooperate for a couple of days! This isn’t my 1st Rodeo!! I always read can before painting(make sure process hasn’t changed), Prep items to be painted properly, make sure weather/temps are correct! This Ultra Matte paint is lousy! I would NEVER RECOMMEND!! So disappointed/frustrated with the Whole Experience!! I’m very OCD about the appearance of my Home Decor items.

Guess I’ll just have to get over looking at the Botched paint on these tables that I look at most of the day! Good Luck with that, lol! Side note: bought Hammered Black at same time & painted a metal wall hanging(before I clear coated tables).

Covered in 1 coat(was surprised) & it looks Fantastic! Seems to confirm my thoughts about Matte Paint having a problem!!.

I used this to refresh the 10 ceiling air registers in our Airbnb rather than pay $13 each for new ones. It took 2 thin coats to cover thoroughly as described in the instructions. This way it dries faster as well.

The paint came out consistently and didn’t jam up. Hopefully our wall paint looks as good as these registers do!.

I purchased the clear to cover an old deck bench that my daughter wanted refinished. The only “problem” I encountered was that I ran out of the clear enamel before I could apply a 3rd and 4th coat, which is necessary for wood that is exposed to occasional sun.

That lasted for a year, and I went back again this spring to sand it lightly and then coat again. The clear is non-yellowing, and I have tried it on my deck rails to replace spar varnish that becomes darker with every coat and cracks badly.

Any heavy exposure to sun is rough on any clear enamel or finish, but the UV protection of Rustoleum makes it a good clear coat for top coating a deck waterproofer-stain. No coating is perfect, but this is the best clear top coat I have found.

I am purchasing a case of clear today from ACE to cover an old deck table that I power-washed and coated with a deck waterproofer-stain. Yearly maintenance is a necessity with any deck work. I let mine get away from me.

What can’t Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear do? “Clearly,” it makes painted surfaces shine brighter than most other spray protectants on the market. I know this to be true as I have tried all of them, I believe.

Crystal Clear makes them able to withstand outside weather elements especially well. There is an art and skill to spray painting, and it wasn’t until recently I even bothered reading the can label. The can tells you everything to get great results! That being said, a guy can still make mistakes (spray unevenly, get the can too close to the surface and cause a run, or even miss a spot and run out of paint).

Crystal Clear makes your mistakes look intentional, I have discovered. The literal shiny glare makes mistakes look less noticeable as the light reflects the covered object in ever-changing patterns depending on the angle of reflection and your eyes.

Sorry for the explanation, but I teach science. Two words of caution: ALWAYS paint in a well-ventilated area, preferably outside. Also, purchase a painter’s mask so you do not inhale the enamel mist in the air.

The masks are surprisingly inexpensive and really work well. After all, you get one set of lungs, so keep them healthy. Rust-Oleum Crystal Clear is the best product for clear-coating, especially if the object, 1.

will possibly get wet, and 2. had or has rust you do not want to spread.

This is a horrible product, not because of the textured content but because of the nozzles. I purchased two cans and both are being returned due to manufacturers defects stemming from the spray nozzle breaking on one can and jamming on the other.

The nozzle on one can literally fractured down the middle causing paint and material to flow laterally. The other can jammed after about a minute or two of spraying. The coating itself was very nice, but you MUST follow the directions and take your time layering coats.

I did about 4 or 5 very light coats with about 20 min in between and the results are exceptional. I would have given this four stars if the cans hadn’t given out on me, mid project. If you are interested in trying this product out, I would highly suggest doubling at a minimum or tripling your estimated usage.

This is not normal paint and depending on your desired texture/ opacity it will require more coats.

Bought 2 cans of this quite a bit ago for around $5 and just got to use it. A few years ago i spray painted a stainless steel 13 gallon waste bin and it had started to look worn. So i used this which was darker than what was on there.

wow it went on so easy and the finish was so smooth and i only used a little more than half a can. I had no blockages, the nozzle made the perfect spray pattern, the coverage was amazing and the hide was great even though i was doing red on red.

The pressure in the can was such i was spraying from about 15 inches so not to apply too much paint. for some reason they want $17 now. which is a joke. buy it somewhere else for about $5 to $6. Spray cans can be a bit hit and miss this can i used was brilliant so i believe i may have got lucky.

We needed to update mom’s dishwasher to look like stainless steel prior to selling her home and this product worked great. Other product reviews weren’t as good as the results customers found for this specific item and they were correct.

This really looks like stainless steel (matched the new fridge and stove) but take care to use the product correctly and you’ll love the results. Make sure you buy this specific item because others we found were not rated as highly as this one if you are looking to match or want the look of a stainless steel appliance.

Could not find semi-gloss white Professional Rustoleum at the local big name hardware stores. JB had it and at a very competitive price. Quick ship and I was in business. The Professional Rustoleum applies at any angle and cover just about any material.

It worked perfectly for brightening up my (plastic) shutters!.

I’ve used Rust-Oleum spray for 20+ years with Great professional results,, also painted my full size LWB ’68 Chevy truck, turned out great, that was 10 years ago and paint has held up very good under the extreme elements, Great product, fully recommend.

The only reason this got two stars is because my chairs were absolutely gorgeous for about a month! I love the depth of color this has, and it was exactly what I was looking for! I bought a set of wicker chairs second hand that were a hideous pink.

Instead of sanding, I scrubbed the chairs with a good degreaser and a brush. I did a black primer black on them first, then coated them in this lovely paint. They were stunning, especially after i added the recovered chair cushions! I smiled happily every time i saw them on my deck for about a month.

Then they started flaking. The paint is less than a year old, and the paint has flaked off horribly. you get some flakes on your clothes every time you sit on them. I definitely wouldnt recommend for furniture use!.

Bought two cans, first one I shook using a drill attachment for mixing spray paint and by hand prior to spraying. As multiple people have said the paint sputtered out in big droplets and was worthless.

Second can I shook by hand only for three minutes, but again the paint was a blotchy dripping mess of crap. Tried cleaning the tips and shaking the cans even more but it didn’t matter. Extremely disappointed.

Had to stop my project mid way through and get new paint.

I first tried this product on some galvanized farm gates that I had to touch up for rust spots and general wear. My 1st worry was to match the old galvanized coloration. Well, I got lucky, the product was in a perfect match for the gates and now I’m going to do my entire windmill head with it.

I’s an outstanding product and a decent price. I would recommend it highly for galvanized touch ups!.

haven’t used the paint yet

This stuff covers my colored pencil and pyrography work on wood in an acceptable fashion. Unfortunately, it does require quite a bit to cover wood pieces, and I am horribly disappointed by how little product they’ve fit into this container.

Basically, I want more. It works fine, but there’s just not a lot of it, which is terribly disappointing for an otherwise decent product. I don’t want to have to fill my entire shopping bag up with these just to get the amount I need.

I painted metal miniature figures for years with tiny precise details on each figure including tiny facial features and detailed clothing. I used water-based craft paints (come in 100s of colors) so to preserve my painstaking details on miniature figures I used Krylon Clear Matte or Gloss depending on the finished look I wanted to achieve on my miniatures.

I have high hopes of using the Krylon UV-Resistant Clear Gloss for my outdoor statuary and metal yard spinners to preserve color and keep paint from cracking, peeling or chipping. Colorful resin statues/decor will bleach to white in harsh sun if not coated with protectant! It’s important not to spray Krylon too thick or it can drip or not dry evenly.

2 to 3 lighter spray applications about 20 to 30 minutes apart is advised rather than trying to spray one thick coat all at once — beware that you read instructions completely and you’ll be happy with Krylon.

Krylon so far for me is the least costly option for a UV-resistant protectant on my outdoor painted items. If coating outdoor resin statuary or metal decor or metal outdoor furniture I recommend a minimum of one application yearly or applications twice yearly if item is in direct 24/7 sunlight.

Krylon is always about the best in whatever they make. A word of warning–follow the instructions. Do NOT apply this directly over any fugitive medium or something that does not have a varnish or some fixative applied first and allowed to dry.

You will destroy your work. Applied correctly however, this will do wonders for the longevity of your finished work. #sweepstakes.

This 10 oz sleek can of matte paint and primer was exactly what I need to do some touch up work around the house. The paint itself is a flat white and sprays smoothly and gives nice even one coat coverage with no running.

The can recommends waiting 24 hours and doing a second coat but I found I didn’t need to. It is uv resistant so can be used inside or outside and won’t fade as quickly. It worked fine on my truck’s rear door base and matched up well to some rust spots I sanded down.

It worked equally well on a couple pieces of wicker furniture I have stored in the garage. The spray propellant (which forces the spray) is made from sugar cane rather than a petroleum base which I think is wonderful and sustainable.

It is designed for indoor/outdoor and can be used on multiple surfaces such as wood,plastic,metal,and crafts. It drys in ten minutes and is a good versatile spray paint for around the home. It covers around 25 sq ft and cleans up with mineral spirits.

It is a nice sleek can that is easy to hold and very cool.

Although the can is smaller than the other brands, I wanted to try it. I am very disappointed. I used it outside to paint a lamp. Two big issues – a HUGE amount of aerosol fills the air quickly, so could only paint for 10-15 seconds at a time.

Applying anything more than the lightest coat leads to drips. Painting a light brown lamp with a cream color took 4-5 coats because it doesn’t cover evenly. Very frustrated with this spray paint.

I wasn’t sure if I would like this color seeing that it was dark gray, but after receiving it, I do. The gray is not too dark and it matches well with other furniture in our living room. It’s a nice size can, not overly large for a smaller hand.

I’m trying a couple different ways to paint a few furniture items and this seems to be the easier way to do things, I jus5 hope that it holds up over time. I think you’ll like it, try it out.

This spray paint is awesome! It sprays out with ease, and even. It does a great job of covering the surface. I was in a pinch and needed to spray paint a white bucket. I didn’t clean it very well beforehand and the spray paint covered it great! The button was easy to push and the paint came out really evenly.

Probably one of the best spray paints I’ve ever used.

This paint is excellent. Very pigmented and makes my crafting easier and faster. One coat is all that I needed when I typically require two or three. I will be buying this paint from now on! So glad I got to try it out.

I bought this a few weeks ago to change the colour of a decorative metal geometric lampshade. I shook the can for a good long while, and sprayed the first side in thin layers a few minutes apart, as the directions explained.

The coverage was complete with no pooling or drips. I then left it for 48 hours to set. It felt touch-dry but still had a slight tackiness to it. I left it another day before turning it over and setting it down on fresh paper to catch the overspray, then sprayed the other side.

It has stuck to the paper where the paint on the first side is not dry. The instructions state it should be touch dry after 30 minutes and hard dry after 24 hours but that could not be further from the truth.

God knows how long this is actually supposed to take to fully cure, but I’m now going to have to sand off the stuck-on paper and re-spray it whenever it’s finally safe to do so and it’s not sticky anymore on the second side.

Could be weeks for all I know. Absolutely rubbish product. Do not buy.

I used this on MDF, properly prepared and I wasn’t impressed with the coverage. Previous reviews that criticised the spray nozzle are correct. The product sprays very unevenly, splutters and deposits random very thick layers as you spray.

The very thick deposits take a considerable time to dry and make getting an even finish very difficult. I did follow the instructions carefully, and I do have a couple of T shirts when it comes to using similar products so I’m reasonably sure it wasn’t operator error.

Colour wise it’s very nice but getting an even finish on MDF was a challenge to say the least. I obviouslt have no clue regarding reliability.

This is a good hobby paint. It’s a good price for the size, it covers well, and the color chit is accurate. The paint IS that bright, so be careful if you’re hoping the tone will soften as it dries. The names for these paints are odd.

Why is ‘Tibet’ mustard orange? The ‘Mustard’ doesn’t look like any mustard I’ve ever seen. Luckily, the color chits are spot on, and I was able to figure out what I really needed. I’m hoping they will do some flats.

I love when I see this spray paint on sale. I pretty much buy whatever is on sale except for this pint because it is of outstanding quality. It does have a nice smell compared to other spray paint but I still would not recommend painting with it in doors as the description implies.

The coverage is great and I feel like the cans last a long time and go a ways. #sweepstakes.

I’ve been using these and Montana Golds for painting murals. The 94s flow smoothly, don’t run easily and ave a great cap that allows you to get nice clean lines, (its one of my favorites to use. ) Compared to a Krylon or Rustoleum can, you will have much less tendency to get drips and can work a little slower with the 94s.

The paint does have a consistency that can build up a little bit of a thick clumpy texture but it isn’t anything that I’ve had problems with. I’ll definitely continue to use these cans.
