The disc lock is easy to use by itself, easily slips over the front disc of my FZ-07, and locks quickly. The keyway is at the end of the lock which makes it harder to access for me, but I suppose it also makes it harder for a thief.

The problems begin with you are attempt to throw the chain into the mix. The chain has a C shaped link on one end that you loop through a large O link, then attach to the shank of the lock, before sliding it shut.

Seems easy enough, right? It’s not. The lock will only close all the way if the positioning of the lock itself and the C link are exactly right. The link must be exactly parallel to the lock and not too far down on the shank.

As you are fussing around with all of these moving parts, with the heavy chain making things harder, the alarm is blaring in your face because it activates at about the halfway point of sliding the lock shut, and has a very short (maybe 5 second) arming time.

The whole process is a pain in the ass and gets me cursing every single time. Additionally, the lock will not fit on the rear disc of my FZ-07, so whatever I’m locking to has to be near the front of the bike, but the chain is too short to lock to anything with any sort of circumference, or that isn’t right next to the bike.

Makes it useless in most city parking situations where you’re backing into a spot. My suggestion: buy the disc lock, skip the chain. Find another chain solution.

Well this is Abus lock+chain combo: strong, nice and works well. All as expected. This specific lock+chain combo can be mounted either on the brake rotor without the chain, or on the chain that comes with it.

Chain has to bee looped on itself. So you sort of have both solutions in one: chained lock and a brake-rotor lock. I even have a feeling that it’s possible to lock it on the chain and on the front rotor at the same time.

Alarm is loud indeed and is removable from the lock. But it will only engage if there is something depressing the “ball” part. I. e. there will be no alarm, if you don’t close the lock on the rotor. This also allows to transport a closed lock without triggering the alarm.

The “ball” part is actually plastic lever and is a part of the alarm mechanism. Lock+chain combo comes with two keys and a pouch for the lock which can be used to store it under the seat. One key has a light in it.

Overall: would recommend.

You know, if a thief can defeat the disc lock then I’m not certain the chain will be of any use. In other words, I think you might be just as well off getting the disc lock alone without the chain. You see, the chain attaches to the disc lock and if the disc can be opened then the chain is of no use.

This disc lock will not fit on the rear disc of a 2016 Triumph Tiger XCx. The disc lock does fit on the front discs of my Tiger. If you’re concerned about somebody lifting your bike into a truck and carrying it off I suppose then the chain if secured to an anchor will prevent that, but unless you’ve got the bike anchored to something I’m not convinced you really need the chain.

Another thing is that it is a real hassle to get the chain on the disc lock and get the disc lock locked before the alarm starts going off and you have to start all over again. I’m going to keep using the disc lock on the front, and I’m going to get a U lock of some sort and use the chain and a U lock to connect the frame to an anchor/post, or whatever I can.

Yeah, I think the disc lock alone is pretty good, some people think it’s not a shrilling alarm; well, it’s enough of an alarm to annoy anyone trying to mess with it, and I really don’t know if it can be easily defeated.

I haven’t heard of one that was.

IMPORTANT INFO: This was missing from EVERY product description I could find of this lock, YouTube, forums, even ABUS’ own site failed to tell me the distance INSIDE the lock so I could determine if it would fit over my disk.

The fitment is in the attached photo. Time will tell if this lock is any good. I’ve taken it on and off a few times without it going off. You have to read the instructions. The videos I watched on it seem to be done by people who didn’t read them.

1)The beep(s) you hear when you lock it are NOT the alarm, they are the arming beeps – the actual alarm is louder than these. 2) The steel ball on the inside has to be over the metal of your brake disk, if its over one of those holes in the disk than you’ll hear a few beeps and then the alarm will go off.

Make sure its over one of the holes. The people complaining that a) the alarm isn’t loud enough may be talking about the arming and warning beeps and b) the people complaining about it going off for no reason probably aren’t paying attention to where that steel ball is sitting on the disk.

Was a little annoying trying to figure out how to put it on without alarming it but managed to make it work on my 2021 scout bobber and now I can do it quickly on and off without setting it off. Lock feels solid compared to other locks on the market and the yellow body I got makes it very visible.

The annoyance feature on the alarm is nice and so is the reset. I just wish it was louder for the price point and I’m not sure how much of a deterrent the alarm at its current sound level actually is for a determined thief.

I got a reminder cable for the lock but standing up my bike the lock is sensitive enough to alarm so it’s a good reminder by itself. I feel like this lock in conjunction with a chain or cable to an immovable object plus a cover is more than enough to keep my bike parked outside over night.

I purchased this lock after reading multiple reviews on the most effective disk locks. While I hope that it will never be put to the test, it is a solid piece of kit. The alarm is loud and triggered fairly easily with only a little motion, but I doubt that it will put off a serious thief, and just as other reviewers have referenced, it takes a little speed to take it off without triggering the alarm.

Most of all, the square solid nature of this lock I anticipate will provide enough of a deterrent for a would-be-thief to look for an easier target.

This lock is expensive but when used with my Kryptonite Krypto 4 foot chain lock delivers a great satisfaction of knowing that a thief would have to bring multiple tools to defeat both while at the same time being blasted with 100 db of alarm leave me confident that my ebike will not get stolen.

The only draw back is that the lock can only be used as a wheel lock and it is tricky to learn to use without setting off the alarm myself.

This bike lock is constructed very good. The mounting bracket is very dependable. The alarm is very delicate if moved. A warning beep will tell anybody moving bike. If the warning is not headed the bike will go full alarm.

Idea is very nice. Unfortunately execution isn’t. The alarm sets of way too easily. Combined with the fact that the pushing in and out of the lock’s metal end is really heavy, with almost all unlocking actions, as an owner, you activate the alarm yourself.

Big pity.

Ive used this as a lock on a shed hasp and staple and its much more robust than the padlock I had before and great for the price. Being a Sold Secure item also gives extra comfort that it will be a quality bit of kit!.

Great disk lock that fits most bikes. Well protected so it won’t rub or scratch anything. Sold secure silver so it’s a decent deterrent. Idea if you are out and you are going to leave your bike unattended for a short time.

Obviously not as good as a decent chain and ground anchor but its lightweight and can be carried when out and about.

This thing looks ok when you install it, although pretty thin metal. I forgot to remove it and drove off with it installed. It split open and I never even knew it was on until I came back hone and found it laying right where it came off the tire.

It wouldnt stop a thief at all.

Well made product that should work well. I put it on my trailer immediately and feel more secure now since I live in the country and am not always at home to watch for thieves.

I needed more security for my contractor cargo trailer so I got online and looked at lots of options. I saw several “boot” type locks for twice the price as this one but I liked the design and price of the Trimax so I bought it.

I have had it several weeks and am very pleased with it. It is very secure and pretty simple to take on and off. It is also a very good visual deterent.

I spent about a year trying to make the Spot Trace work as an anti-theft device on my 40 foot sailboat. Granted, the device is easy to set up and install – I installed it close to the engine and got it with the 12 volt cable so I could hook it up to the boat and not worry about changing the batteries.

Unfortunately the Spot Trace does not detect movement very well, not to say at all. I have sailed for days without this thing tracking. I’ve had things fall on the floor in the cabin and people get seasick without the Spot noticing movement and I’ve motored for hours without the device tracking.

I’ve even brought it to shore in my pocket on shopping trips. No tracking. I could make it track by turning it off and back on after I started sailing, but I’m afraid even the most considerate pirate would not be that helpful.

The Spot support crew have tried different solutions. They replaced the device itself, we tried installing different versions of the firmware, we tried installing a special super-sensitive vibration sensing firmware tweak, but nothing could help it detect movement and start tracking unless I REALLY shook the device around.

After almost a year a nice lady in support took pity on me and went off script: “Well, we’ve had some problems with this device on sailboats”. Thank you, that is very helpful to know instead of just letting me waste my time for a year.

I wanted my money back since the device does not work as advertised but Spot argued that the device actually tracked from time to time, so they wouldn’t make a refund. I argued that it was like having a house alarm with a movement sensor that only detected Halloween Parties and claiming that it worked.

They said they’d refund me $50 as a good-faith gesture. The money never showed up on my card though and this is pretty typical for the Spot support experience. They are happy to suggest solutions while on the phone but once the call is over I will have to call them back about any promises they made.

for instance, it took 3 or 4 calls over a month or so to push them through the process of sending me a replacement device. The Spot Trace might work in a car or a trailer, or on a high-speed water craft, but personally I wouldn’t trust it to and since Spot support seems to consider the device more of a toy than a safety device, I would look for a company with a more professional approach.

Easy to setup Don’t forget to check for updates like your phone when you buy an unit I called support because I was not able to get it going and did the updates with support: knowledgeable and friendly.

Bought it because of « boat motion » option. Tested it last weekend by actually taking the unit in my hand walk away from boat with and got email notice. What’s left to test: longevity of batteries and how it reacts when it’s cold.

I bought this a few weeks ago to secure a trailer while storing it outdoors. It included 3 “very custom” keys and was super easy to use. I had no trouble getting it setup (getting it out of the packaging was another story).

With this added to my other trailer hitch lock, I think it will take someone a long, cold day to get all the security precautions loose.

I bought this lock a few weeks ago and use it everytime I leave my motorcycle alone more than 5 minutes. I accidentally set it off a few times and was a little disapointed by the volume of the alarm, it’s loud but it could be louder.

If you park in a busy street and you are eating in the back of a mildy crowded restaurant, you probably wouldn’t hear it. I feel like its more a bonus to a good disk lock. Except for the volume aspect, everything else is nice.

It’s sturdy, it works great, goes onto my front disk without any problem but it won’t fit the rear disk on my Ninja 650 2017. I like how the alarm doesn’t go off that easily. I feel like it’s the perfect sensitivity not too much so that the wind or road vibration will set it off but, enough that if somebody fiddle with your bike, it’ll trigger.

You have 5 seconds to unlock the lock before the alarm goes off and since the disk is low to the ground and the keyhole is facing down, you need to be kinda quick. I often unlock it with a second to spare.

It comes with a pouch, 2 keys and a code that you can send them if you want another key made. Batteries are already inside and was working instantly when I opened the package. I didn’t need to change the battery yet.

It fits perfectly in my seat when I ride. It’s pricey but I feel like it’s worth it, If the alarm was 10-15 db louder it would be close to perfect. I would give it 4. 5 stars if I could.

I bought a bike lock from Halfords. It seems one of the most secure ones of its type and I’ve had no complaints so far. Only downside is that it is quite heavy and quite difficult getting it on and off, and also isn’t that big so it doesn’t fit easily around all fences and railings.

However otherwise it seems safe and secure which is the main thing.

Reassuringly chunky and alarmed, this lock allows me to leave my bike with confidence where bike theft is an issue. A little clunky to use, the jaws must be fully open and the rotating plastic collar carefully lined up with the other jaw, so it can be a little fiddly to engage.

A great item, and an addition to the two other locks I use. I would prefer it if it were a little more sensitive. Hoping that this lock, with its alarm feature will deter would be thieves, and that I can hang on to this bike for longer than I had the last one.

Having all kinds of technical issues that maybe very easy to solve; however, company’s tech support is voice mail that claim they will get back to you but never does. I rate it less than fair. I wish you will give me my money back or exchange for a different tracking device.

I love this thing, it gives me peace of mind for sure. I know some people say it’s too sensitive, but isn’t that what you want out of a security device? Also this one has a feature to make sure it is inactive whenever it isn’t actively on your disc.

Fantastic way to immobilize your trailer from thieves. Has a very unique round barrel key that cant be duplicated or picked.

Great Product. Gives me confidence that my trailer will still be there in the morning.

Happy with the purchase. It arrived in the estimated time (Mallorca). The Abus detecto 7000 RS1 meets the detailed specifications. Although both keys come without light, in the description there is an error, as it details that one of the keys comes with an LED light.

The alarm is pretty loud, although I don’t think it’s very loud either. For my taste, it could have more dB. Once the alarm goes off, it stops after 15 seconds and is automatically armed again. Now to use it.

I bought one of these Abus Detecto 7000 disc lock alarms it lasted for less than a year when the alarm stopped working. I thought the problem was simply that the batteries had died, but after replacing the batteries the alarm would not function properly.

After replacing the batteries, the countdown beeps and then the alarm itself would always trigger immediately after locking the device. The alarm was no longer usable. The only reason I gave it two stars instead of one is that while it was working properly it met all my expectations.

The design is good, the problem is with its reliability. Hard to believe this is manufactured in Germany. (or maybe it isn’t?). Side Note: This same exact problem occurred on another Abus disc lock (the Granit) I had bought before.

I foolishly thought that it was a rare defect and decided to give Abus another try. Unfortunately the same problem occurred.

I know this is a review of the product as an alarm & disc lock, however it is important to understand what security system you are choosing to purchase. I decided on this Abus 7000 alarm disc lock for peace of mind.

I live in a “higher end” apartment complex in a large city with gated garages and security guards. I felt reasonably secure with my bike simply locked and alarmed along with all the other motorcycles in my complex.

Unfortunately my 2014 Yamaha R1 was stolen within one month of me buying it. This brings me to reviewing this product. Disc locks are truly not that much of a security deterrent for thieves. It takes very little effort to pick up the bike and wheel it off on a dolly or roller cart (tools any movers can purchase at Lowes for $20).

As for the alarm on the Abus, it is pretty weak and it only stays on for 15 seconds. I set it off almost every time I unlocked it and it really was not loud enough to gain much attention. (see previous review regarding noise level) Abus makes some quality locks that are tough to pick or break open, but locks are there to keep honest people honest.

For motorcycle security you simply require more than a disc lock and alarm. Suggestions: Use a combination of deterrents. Wheel lock in conjunction with security chains. RF alarms to notify you. GPS to track and/or locate the bike if stolen.

I realize you can get a lot of money tied up into securing you motorcycle, but you must not assume simple locks such as this Abus Alarm Disc Lock is provided more security that it was designed for. It just simply does not provide $100+ worth of security.

I would recommend stepping up your security by means to secure your bike to a permanent fixture.

great lock, durable and large. a bit too large for Brompton bicycle, as this is the largest size for Bordo line. key lock is very smooth even after rain and wind and snow. automatic dust cover protects keyway locking and unlocking fast and smooth.

rubber more than supple to protect against all scratches exactly the same size as standard U lock comes with heavy duty metal straps coated in rubber for lock mount. must use metal cutters! straps to bind lock mount to bicycle are steel under the black rubber.

mount is click in click out, never once fell out. released by pushing sideways on clips in center of mount easy to do. fits between legs on downtube without issue must tighten hard, otherwise lock will rotate.

plenty of rubber on underside no scratches very heavy though, even more than extra thick U lock of same caliber.

I use this on my eBike when I have to make short stops about town. It is great because eBikes with integrated batteries typically have much thicker downtubes and that combined with the bigger frame in general make it impossible to use a standard U-Lock to secure an eBike to a typical bike rack that you’d find installed on the sidewalk in a city.

I went with the 110cm size instead of the 85cm one and am very glad I did, it gives that extra room needed to accommodate any less-than-ideal placement of your eBike relative to the structure you are securing it too.

Yes its heavier than the Granite 6000 but I carry it in my pannier and the weight isn’t noticeable.

It’s compact when installed and strong. Love the lock especially after rad techs installed it. At first I thought I should’ve gotten another style lock but now that I’ve used it I’m extremely glad to have bought this one.

I feel like it provides stronger protection and for shorter duration stops, I feel like thieves are more likely to find easier targets. It would take a lot more time, equipment, and preparation to break this lock.

That said, I do not leave my bike out overnight.

I bought the best reviewed U-Lock I could find to protect my Ebike investment. Although I have not yet had occasion to use it, right out of the package I am impressed by its formidable appearance and I’m certain that no one but a professional bike thief would even think about messing with it.

As for the thief, I will only park and lock it in the most public of places. I will also maintain a direct line of sight on the bike from my cafe table (or barstool!) for any scumbag action. I added the bike specifically to my homeowner’s insurance policy.

My next purchase will be the Abus cable to string from the front wheel to the lock on the back wheel.

I worked in a bike shop for 3 years and heard from numerous people whose bikes had been stolen due using flimsy bike locks. Abus 15 was always the only lock that survived any bike theft attempts so I got this small one for son’s bike as I know this lock will last a really long time and we’re a bike family for life! I’ve had a 15 Abus bike lock since 2007 because they’re hardest one to break into! Sounds pricy but in the long term they’re worth while!.

I believe this is one of the smallest and lightest gold standard locks – it is wide enough to lock a wheel and frame to a standard bike stand. Good solid feel. Not too cumbersome. efficient service from Sigma sports.

Bought this several months back as I live in a questionable neighborhood. This thing can take a beating. I’ve dropped it a few times and broken the plastic cover off. The lock works great and is easy to attach to the bike.

The alarm isn’t very loud but loud enough to be a deterrent I suppose. The batteries also don’t last very long but at easily replaceable with standard alkaline batteries!.

Great lock. The alarm will trip if the bike is moved or nudged, but doesn’t get set off by the wind when my bike cover is on. It’s loud enough that I’d hear if someone is messing with my bike at night, but not loud enough to be painful when I accidentally set it off while trying to unlock it.

It should be coupled with other locks if you really want to prevent your bike from disappearing overnight, but plays a big part in making sure thieves move on to an easier bike to steal.

I use it on the front wheel as a deterrent when I leave the bike unattended for a short period of time ie: going to the theater or shopping. The flashing light is a good visual warning and it is loud.

It will go off as soon as it moves but is not tripped by traffic vibrations. For overnight parking during rides, I combine it with a Granit Victory X-Plus 68 Chain Lock on the back wheel.
