20 Best Ups For Home Use (2023 Updated)

I bought this APC Back-UPS PRO 1500VA to replace a failed older APC 1500VA unit (also purchased at Best Buy) due to water damage. That unit was probably 15 years old and would have still worked if the damage wouldn’t have occurred to it.

I did have to replace the battery (about $50 online) in the older one, though, as it wouldn’t hold a charge for too long because of its age at the time (about 8 years). The old unit still worked, but the relay(s) in it were shot due to the water damage (if power was lost, it wouldn’t engage the battery power).

I have always used an APC Back-UPS 1500VA for my gaming computer/monitor/Cisco switch/coaxial cable for cable modem. This device “cleans” the incoming wall power and prolongs the life of your expensive and sensitive electronics, not to mention that it provides continuous power for your equipment from brownouts and power outages until your home power is restored again.

I can have almost 40 minutes of backup power available for my computer/LED monitor if I am not computing heavily. This new unit is also great because it has 2 USB outlets (my old one did not) to charge your phones (or anything that uses a USB cable) if the power should ever go out and you need a charge.

This unit is highly recommended.

I have all major electronics on APC UPS’s. Its a great feeling when you hear the unit beep as the house lights dim or temporarily go out and your television, internet and other devices continue to function as if nothing happened.

If there is an outage, the display lets you know exactly how much time you have at current consumption levels. Sometimes our voltage goes as high as 130V, and its good to know that our components are getting a constant 120V.

AVR, TV, Sub Woofer, Printers, Modem, Router, Apple TV, at least one light, and anything else are plugged into multiple APC UPS’s. When we first moved in to this area a dozen years ago, there was a brownout at 2AM that caused the loss of data on a new computer, and I swore never again! I’ve been hooked on these units ever since.

Customizable for sounds (or none) when there is an event. The Batteries are replaceable, and the staff at Batteries Plus will do it for you! If you think the price is expensive, wait until you have to retrieve date from a fried disc, and subject your private info to the purview strangers out of your presence.

When (not if) you purchase one, remember, the higher the VA, the more time you have if there’s an outage. I’ve seen and read that these can arrest a lightning strike, saving your equipment. I hope to never find out.

I’ve been told APC is king, and for years, I’ve put off buying a UPS for reasons that I can’t quite explain. My area is prone to short blips, and I very frequently wake up to the noises of computers rebooting after an overnight outage has occurred.

These are especially frequent in summers when everyone has ACs running and the draw of that early-morning sunbaking rams the grid. I finally picked one of these up, and it’s pretty impressive. With a desktop tower in full particle simulation mode and a modem drawing up to 300W, I gave the battery a real-time test and watched the unit keep things going like nothing had happened–a big must for my work.

Two days after my purchase, one of those blips struck. I no longer woke up to the sounds of rebooting machines. Instead, I caught that the Event counter on the APC display had ticked up by 1. I’m a bit of a stat junkie, so I also love being able to cycle through the display options to see things like power draw, events, and line voltage.

Definitely worth the dollars. Strongly recommend.

I purchased the UPS to keep our fibre-optic modem, internet router and wireless up and running during power failures. My previous UPS only kept the modem running for 20 min, so it was time for an upgrade so we can surf in the internet in the dark on our phones! What I like about this is the small footprint.

It has well-spaced 3 outlets for my fibre-optic modem, my internet router and my wireless router to run on battery power when the electricity is out. The other 3 similarly well-spaced outlets are just current surge-protected and cuts power when there is no electricity.

The later run my network switches and other electronic devices which are not needed in the event of a power failure and in fact, I do not want them to draw on precious battery power.

I bought the Tripp Lite to support sensitive computer components used in brainwave entrainment equipment (Ajna Light) that I use in my professional practice. The model I purchased is Energy Star Certified, and the company has an impressive sustainability report that you can preview online, which is important to me because it helps me to meet the sustainability goals I set for myself and for my company.

The Trip Lite is well made and compact in size, compared to competitor brands that I have previously used and or researched. I highly recommend that you use a Tripp Lite UPS surge protector for your sensitive electronic and computer devices.

Its a game changer when you are protected during a power outage because it gives you plenty of time to shut down your devices properly, minimizes the risk of damage to your investments, and prevents lost data which may occur if your device loses power without having been shut down properly.

This powers my vacation home networking equipment and protects it from the incessant line surges and transients that occur thanks to ongoing saltwater deterioration of power lines to all the residences.

It stands alone and isn’t networked to anything. Added a whole house lightning protector in the circuit breaker box. I mounted it on the wall and dressed up the cables. Sure beats having a pile of cables on a shelf.

Does it work? The electronics in my last one (different location) died five days after the warranty expired. Tripp Lite made good on it. I’ve never had one of these consumer UPS keep working for more than about 7 years and two battery changes.

I own two of these and will probably be purchasing more. I like the LCD panel and the information it provides, particularly the current wattage draw of connected devices. However, I’ve replaced batteries in two of these so far (both with the APC battery pack) and both times, one terminal of the battery pack won’t seat properly and when the battery is inserted into the unit, the terminal is pushed back into the housing.

Very frustrating. My solution is to use a long plastic stick (a chopstick would work, for example). I insert the battery pack, then insert the stick between the two constituent batteries and push the black cable so that the male terminal is forced into the receptacle inside the UPS.

I know how to do this because I’ve taken apart the old battery and learned how the component is built. I would rather see a design in which the receptacle is at the end of a cable, allowing the battery to be inserted and then the cable attached afterward.

I believe one of the other UPS designs from APC does work this way (I’ve seen pictures of it). If that other product is of sufficient capacity, I won’t be buying this model again.

APC UPS’s are reputable, good quality, super solid, and with awesome support. Otherwise I wouldn’t look at them. Just bought Back-UPS BR1500G plus external battery pack for home use due to COVID-19 working from home all the time.

The cooling fan noise is not too loud but definitely very noticeable in home office setup, which is died quiet generally. Personally I can’t stand this noise the whole day and everyday at home! I do NOT recommend this UPS for home use, unless you plan to put it in a remote closet or corner.

Very disappointed with APC: making super quiet fans and better cooling management is not difficult at all in nowadays.

Bought this to replace a 10 year old SMART1000RM2U that failed on me. Didn’t need the additional features of the new version of that unit so I went with this one. I don’t understand the complaints about mounting, it comes with 2 ears, plenty of screws, and even inserts and screws for my rack to mount it to there, even though I already have them thats a nice touch.

Functionality is great I appreciate the front panel LCD. Everything seems to be up and running smoothly. Yes Tripplite’s software is kinda lame. Its not really made for a home user, I have it running on my server.

Functionality is great and it offers a LOT more options than some other brands, at the expense of being a bit clunky. But really it logs everything, you can schedule all sorts of tasks, program it to auto test on a schedule, etc.

That said, make sure this is in a closet, it is LOUD. I usually buy 2U units as the 1U one shave tiny super loud fans, but this one is noticeably louder than my SMART1000RM2U was. I’m not even pushing it hard only pulling down about 150w and the fan is on “hurricane” mode.

I had to pull a star for that. Overall this unit is great and if you have a proper server room/closet, there is no reason not to buy it. If you’re going to try and use it in a living space or office, I recommend against it.

It makes as much if not more noise than an old window air conditioner.

Yes, the fan is louder than one would like. It would help if Tripp Lite would move to a 120mm or 140mm fan. I have two of this model protecting large screen UHD TVs, and a third protecting a computer setup.

I will soon add a fourth one to protect another computer setup. I have learned to, almost, tune out the fan noise. All? of us looking at this model are probably seeking pure sine wave AC output in our effort to protect our Active PFC equipped electronic devices.

Compare this model SMC1500T to the similarly priced and similarly featured Cyberpower model OR1500PFCLCD (which I also use). This model features 3 standard 12v batteries and weighs in at aprox 48lbs; the Cyberpower model specifies 2 non-standard 12v batteries and weighs aprox 28lbs.

No, I do not like the fan noise, but I will grudgingly learn to live with the fan noise. Tripp Lite PLEASE move to a larger (same air movement, lower noise level) fan size!!!.

I have only had this thing a few days but it has already survived a self-test and a blackout (a chronic problem in this area) with flying colors. I hasten to add that everyone should remember that a new UPS should be charged from 8 to 24 hours before installation and use depending on the unit.

(I charged this thing for 33 hours before I set it up. ) I would have given it 5 stars except that as one of the other reviewers stated, the PowerAlert software is not very intuitive and was unusable anyway, at least in my case, because it destabilized my Windows 10 OS.

I removed it and allowed Windows power management to regulate the unit. This feature of Windows is actually very useful and very easy to configure;You can still get Windows to shut the system down in a specified time interval in the event of a power problem.

There is just is no fancy interface from which to view the UPS status, which I don’t like. I believe this problem was because the software is based on java. Still, I am keeping the UPS and hopefully Tripp Lite will come up with something better in the future and That works better with Windows and Ubuntu-based Linux systems as I am dual-booting with Windows 10 and Linux Mint.

I will write other reviews to chart my future level of satisfaction. Thank You P. S. – I forgot to mention that the complaints about the fan noise from this unit are completely exaggerated in that while noticeable the fan noise is very subdued and completely tolerable.

It’s not much if any louder than my case fans which are not loud at all.

I received this unit a few days ago, and had the chance to plug it and test it with my equipment. It is very quiet, and compact for a Backups 850Va unit. It is actually a quite nice design. The unit comes with a USB A to B cable for the use of Powerchute power management software (to plug from a computer or other device with a usb port, into the back of the APC unit).

There is a full instruction book printed on paper. The performance is great keeping my equipment going for several hours with power off. I have three minor quibbles. 1) This is using the older APC design where you have to hook up the wires to the battery.

The newer designs internally have a battery pack that just slides into place which would be preferred. 2) The red power wire to hook up to the battery is a bit short and it took about a minute of stretching the wire and maneuvering the battery pack in order to get the wire hooked up.

The wire could be a bit longer. 3) There is no LCD read out panel. This would have been a nice add on, but might have compromised the ability to deliver this amount of backup power in such a small package.

Low battery is indicated by the power button showing a flashing green light instead of steady so, it really covers that base. These minor quibbles do not affect the functionality of the unit or its performance, and I would be willing to buy this unit the next time I need a battery back up unit.

Super reliable power cleaner and back up system. We always have one on our television and media boxes (dvd player, etc. ) to protect them from surges and brown-outs. APC’s Back-ups is high quality but without the frills of the computer-based ones (which you don’t really need to protect TVs).

APC also has a nice battery recycling program – the battery tends to need replacing after 3-5 years and they’ll let you send back the used one with free shipping.

The software also lets my computer shut down gracefully when the battery life gets down to a certain level during a power outage.

The APC User Manual and online documentation lacks in explaining this for all of their UPS products, a bit strange given their attention to detail. Beyond surge protection and battery backup, this BR model takes a step above the BN Series and generates smooth SineWave power, as opposed to stepped approximation sine wave power, plus provides AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation) that will compensate, not only for undervoltage, but for overvoltage line conditions.

This is just as important as surge protection and backup power for maximizing equipment lifespan and ensures compatibility with Active PFC electronics, avoiding unexpected shutdown of PFC power supply devices.

To top it all off, APC backs-up their engineering with a 3-year Warranty and a Lifetime US$500,000 Equipment Protection Policy. Full disclosure, APC provided me this product for review. Nonetheless, I have yet to come across any company to its better.

Once losing a computer, monitor and printer in one shot to a line surge, not only do I utilize surge protection and uninterruptible power supplies, I only utilize APC products — in my opinion and experience, the best.

For the sake of clarity I have 3 monitors, two printers, external HDD, home phone, 5. 1 speaker system, desk lights, and of course my CPU attached and I have not even come close to using the full capacity! (I put the CPU, monitors, speakers and HDD on the back-up) I am using teh front USB for my Cell phone fast charge stand.

Improvements? a couple of more front USB charging ports, inclusion of the free monitoring software from APC with the documentation, and perhaps something to tell me my remaining battery life would be nice.

For the price? Great product and highly recommend. My original review was published in late 2018. This update is provided 31 Dec 20 The APC BR1000MS continues to operate flawlessly. There is zero noise and it has “stepped” in on a number of occasions without missing a beat.

I still maintain a great product and strongly recommend.

Living in Central Texas, I have several vulnerable equipment collections scattered across the house, including the main home theater system, another mini theater system a bedroom, a two-channel audio set-up, a video game room, a home office, and a desktop set up.

For the video game room system, I picked up the APC model BR 1350 Pure Sine Wave Battery Back-up and this slick tower model is clad in all black, is solidly constructed, and has an easy to use front LCD interface.

The rear panel features 10 AC receptacles, six of which run on the battery backup while the other four just get surge protection. There are other connections on the back (coaxial, ethernet, serial) but these were not utilized in this set up.

I was more interested in providing the sensitive gaming equipment and television display protection from voltage spikes and reductions that plague my area. I have used APC in the past (and even now) so there was an organic trust in the company products.

I wanted a robust automated voltage regulation feature, which instantly corrects fluctuations through brownouts and over-voltages, but what intrigued me the most about this unit was the pure sine wave technology, something not commonly seen at this price point.

You want this feature (if you can afford it) because sine wave power feeds your equipment running on the battery back up the same power provided from the wall, which keeps your equipment running smooth.

After setting up the battery as per instructions (highly suggest you read the user manual front to back before you begin fiddling with this UPS unit), I noticed the battery was at 83%, so I plugged the unit into the wall AC and let it charge fully before I took it to its new home in the video game room.

Next, I connected all the components, made the setting changes (high sensitivity, muted event alarms), and then did what (I would guess) every other person on the planet does when they add surge protection to their system: I sat and stared at it.

There is literally nothing to do when you first get a UPS backup / AVR component other than to look at it. After waiting for ten minutes to witness something – anything – (only hearing total silence), I felt a little silly and called it a day.

I can say however that it looked great and I felt good having the APC in the lineup, but to better understand its capabilities, I had to wait for a weather event or a brown out. And that did not take long.

Three days later, the neighborhood experienced a series of voltage fluctuations due to city crews working on the power lines. The APC made a click noise (I had the event notification on mute, otherwise there would have been a beep as well) and the game I was playing was seamless.

As far as I can tell, it was steady, clean power feeding the game system and television while the power fluctuated for about 10 minutes. It took a whole two weeks to get a thunderstorm, and a really nasty one too.

Before the expected arrival time, I had my boys fire up their Nintendo Switch and play a game while we waited for the big moment. Thunder crash after thunder crash and no power issues but in the end, we weren’t disappointed.

Seemingly out of nowhere there was a very loud thunder crash, causing us to jump a little. A few seconds later we experienced the payoff: whole-house total loss of power. I have to admit it was a little eerie: everything around us was completely dark except the glow of the television.

The power did not return for 44 minutes and the game never had a hitch. The APC was completely silent (except for the clicks) and performed its job admirably. I was impressed. We experienced three more storms with total house power loss (although none longer than 20 minutes) and the APC did what it is designed to do, flawlessly.

I should add that except for the first time, when we lost power, I took that opportunity of having the APC in the line up to power everything down safely and properly. The two USB ports in the front are quite handy for on-the-fly charging.

I noticed my teenager and his friend use the port to charge their cell phones while they played. After two months of testing and use, I experienced no unusual faults or error messages that others have reported.

It made no audible noise in the room at any time, save for the clicking noise when the back up was engaged. Overall, I am very content with this APC unit. I finally have the protection I want for the video gaming system that sorely needed it.

It runs quiet, does its job as advertised and provides me with a sense of comfort that my game systems are protected.

The unit was really easy to install. More lightweight than most UPS units but doesn’t loose battery life based on that weight. Software is pretty neat! Easy to understand. The only thing I’d say, I wish it came with cage nuts just incase the tech needs to rack mount it.

Our computers went out during a recent thunderstorm & the power outage caused the UPS to beep loudly. It happened on a weekend when the office was closed, but fortunately an employee stopped by & tried to stop the noise.

She alerted us, and we called our computer technician who diagnosed the problem and ordered us a new Tripp-Lite. It came within a few days and we are back to normal.

I bought the UPS to protect a small rack with 2 POE switches. We have our POE surveillance cameras on one switch and our POE SIP telephones on the other switch. The UPS is compact and reasonably priced.

Unfortunately the network card for the UPS costs more than the UPS itself. I can buy a laptop and connect it via USB to the UPS for less money than the cost of a Tripp Lite network card. Something is wrong with that pricing model.

The UPS does it’s job but I have to hang a laptop off of it to monitor it remotely.

We purchased SmartPro to replace aging competitor UPS. Tripplite protects the network switches in IDF cabinets above production floor. The web card is a must to access Tripplite remotely, because IDF cabinet is only accessible via lift.

We have had the Tripplites in our environment for the past 3 years without incident. I have recently changed batteries on 2 SmartPro units. Now we are replacing the remaining UPS. We prefer the Tripplite over competitors because of the cost savings.

We have been utilizing this unit for 5 months now, and the device has functioned flawlessly. We use it simply for a single Switch and TWC Fiber Channel Box. Installation however, was an extremely tedious task.

Since we have an elevated rack, the device being very heavy for its size, needed two people. And because this device is shorter in comparison to other UPS’s, it did not reach the back two mounts to screw in, so currently is is putting a great amount of stress on the front two parts of the mount (which in itself was an extreme challenge to just mount onto thanks again to its weight).

With the way it sits now our main concern is that the screws will eventually give way and start to bend, meaning the eventual removal of the device will be another big venture. But we trust with the Tripplite brand that will not be for a long time.

Overall we would recommend the device, but be warned you should plan out if the task will be a two man job, and if the rack can handle the weight on one side.

This is the second of two units I purchased. The unit runs as advertised. There are several advantages to this unit versus the competitor (cough-APC-cough) whihc bought out by a French company that only maintains the existing product lines of everything they grab (Don’t EVEN get me started on Pelco).

First is the size. Because I deploy these units in remote cabinets, there is a size of how big (long specifically) a unit will fit. With the short depth of this unit, it fits in great. The competitor’s unit is like 6″ longer, and useless.

You would think the competitor would realize this, since it is their IDF frame/box I am using, but they don’t make a UPS to fit inside of it. Second is the Network Management card. I like notifications when a cabinet goes off grid onto battery backup.

While both Tripplite and the competitor offers the SNMP card, you get more features with this unit. A lot more customizable. Third, the LCD screen readout is, well, readable. Unless the competitor has resolved there issue recently, the Tripplite unit has a nice, BRIGHT, LCD readout.

It gives more information as well. It cycles through Power consumption, Run time remaining, etc. The competitor’s LCD screen is about useless when attempting to read. Finally, the unit comes with rails for four(4) post cabinets (see note below about two post solution).

The competitor’s unit does not. TWO POST Solution. The unit (being so compact) is quite heavy. If you do plan on using this in a telecom cabinet, order the two-post support kit 2POSTRMKITWM, makes all the difference.

The standard rails, while good for a big cabinet, will not work for telecom cabinets.

It does what it is advertised to do. Small enough to fit on the shelf with my router and whole-house wireless system. Only negative comment is that the outlets all face in the same direction, which I’d call ‘side to side’ instead of ‘top to bottom’ (that’s normal, though) and all the devices I wanted to plug into it needed the receptacles turned 90 degrees.

Therefore I had to add a power strip that was aligned in a way I could plug all the devices at the same time. It’s really not a negative to the actual product, though. Just something I hadn’t considered when I bought it, but luckily my power strip’s outlets were oriented ‘top to bottom’ (hope that’s descriptive enough) and I could plug all the devices into it.

That just took up a little additional space which was no problem where I had everything mounted.

Haven’t had any long outages to do extensive testing, but I have an Xfinity modem/router plugged into it. About a week after purchase I was “lucky” enough to have a random 15 minute outage, and internet worked fine on my laptop the whole time.

(Make sure to identify if there are any other devices supporting your internet, sometimes there’s more than just the router!) Curious about how long it would support the laptop itself before getting drained, but I’ll probably never actually rely on it for that.

In the past, I had a few “flickers” that I hope this will protect against (seemed like it could be more of a surge than a straight outage) but after a month or so, I still don’t think I’ve seen that problem recur so I can’t confirm one way or another.

Easy to set up as well. Hope it lasts a long time.

I had purchased this battery after GP had a moment and cycled our power 4 times in about 2 seconds. I run a few servers, so my computers going offline is unacceptable. I decided to pick a couple of these up.

I’d recommend looking at the packaging and doing a little testing first – these are built for about 235w of protection. My computer’s power supply is 700w. However, when put on a Kill-A-Watt, it turns out that my computer uses about 200w at full load, and about 90w at idle.

Thus, my computer is within the ratings of this battery backup. Yours may not be. Test it. Kill-A-Watts are like $20. It lists that at a 180w load, the battery should last about 5 minutes. I suspect at full load, this battery would last about 2-3 minutes (It seems doubling the wattage divides remaining time by 3, at least with the metrics they’ve given us.

). A couple microstutters have happened in the time that I’ve had this product. My monitors will turn off (since they’re not on the battery), but my computer stays on and working perfectly fine. I bought another to keep the internet online, too.

Of course, I can’t stop Comcast from going out, but I can at least get a higher percentage uptime.

So far, it worked perfectly. It was easy to set up. Plug it in and press the main power button on the lower front. The instructions say it needs to charge its built-in battery for at least 24 hours. Lucky for me I set it up when I did, because the power went off the very next day, but my computer stayed on (for a normal shut-down) and I heard the low beeping alarm from this unit that tells you it has switched to battery power.

It’s a bit heavy, so I would guess that most home users will put it on the floor like I did. In that case, my only suggested refinement is that the screen should be on the TOP of the unit for easier viewing, rather than having to get down on the floor to see the end of the unit.

The serial number, which you need to register and also for the warranty, should be on the order form itself and all the paperwork, as well as labelled more prominently as “serial number” on the box, which it is not.

I was not sure that I found the right number, among all the other numbers.

I have used many uninteruptible power supplies over the years but this one from CyberPower is the first one I have owned that is so attractive, I am happy to have it out in the open. Stylishly designed with a sharp, informative, color LCD screen, it is iight years ahead of most UPS boxes of old, at least in terms of looks.

Which, let’s face it, were just basic plastic boxes with a few rows of outlets along one side. Those were almost always simply buried under the desk somewhere, on the floor, out of sight. They did the job but were nothing much to look at and did not provide much information unless the power failed and an alarm went off.

You won’t be inclined to hide the CyberPower LX1500. Not only does it look nice, it provides a lot of useful information via its LCD information screen. When activated by tap of the big button on the front (it remains off most of the time) this UPS displays the current voltage provided by your home or office AC outlets, as well as the charge status of the internal UPS battery and current load of the devices plugged into the UPS.

Pushing the button cycles you through more information, including output voltage, estmated battery run time for attached devices and any faults that may occur. (The same information also is available via CyberPower’s PowerPanel Personal software, which is a free download from the company’s web site.

But you must first connect the UPS to your computer via the supplied USB cable. ) Up to five devices can be plugged in and have battery backup, along with five more that only get surge protection. Just be aware most of these outlets are tightly bunched so if you have a lot of devices with big power bricks, this UPS is not going to be a good choice.

Only one battery backup outlet in each grouping is offset enough for a power brick. The others will only accommodate a standard plug. One nice extra is that all outlets get automatic voltage regulation, which kicks in if voltage from the street drops below recommended levels, which can be damaging to sensitive electronics.

The battery makes up the shortfall when that happens and keeps voltage steady. If you do experience a power outage, battery run times vary from a few minutes to more than three hours, depending on how many devices are plugged in an how much power they require.

When I plugged in my big desktop tower and two large monitors, the UPS said I could keep going for more than two hours on battery backup. Pretty impressive if true. The surge protection on this UPS is a bit less so.

It is rated at 890 joules, which by CyberPower’s own standard, is less than half of what is recommended for desktop computers and HDTVs. Something is better than nothing but you should be aware that even this limited this protection diminishes over time, with the joule rating going down by a significant amount each time a surge is stopped.

This UPS also provides protection from power surges on incoming internet and cable TV cables. And there are USB A and C ports on the front for charging devices that get power this way. Overall this is a very nice UPS with a lot of modern extras.

The LCD information center is very useful and with 10 outlets, it should be able to accommodate the needs of most people. Its biggest shortcomings are the tightly bunched outlets, limiting the number of power bricks you can plug in, and a marginal surge protection rating.

I have had several electronic items damaged lately during storms. My expensive surge protector hasn’t always prevented damage. Several items that weren’t damaged require rebooting and sometimes reprograming as a result of outages, voltage spikes and voltage drops.

I got this as better protection for my equipment more than as a battery backup. Our den entertainment area has too many electronic gadgets to all get plugged into this unit. This unit has 10 outlets, 5 of which have the battery backup feature and 5 that only have surge protection.

I chose not to use battery backup on my 75″ TV, I think it would not run very long on battery power. I chose to use battery backup on my modem, my WiFi mesh server, my small all in one computer, our wireless security camera receiver and our DVR.

Interestingly, the box claims 221 minutes of run time, with what I have plugged in (the computer is turned off) the LED panel estimates a 291-minute run time. My TV, soundbar, Blu-ray player and 2 printers are plugged into the surge protection only outlets.

Aside from surge protection and battery backup this unit has voltage regulation which protects against voltage drops as well as voltage surges/spikes. There are coax cable, network cable and USB connections too.

There is a USB charging port and a USB C charging port on the front. The LCD panel on the front allows you to scroll through a number of screens including the current electrical load percentage, estimated run time on battery, percentage the backup battery is charged, input voltage, output voltage, output watts, percentage of output watts currently used, input frequency, output volt/amps, output volt/amp percentage.

There is an app that lets you monitor and control the unit as well as program automatic shutdowns. I have not explored the app yet. While I haven’t had a full-blown power outage since installing this unit, I have had a number of thunderstorms that made the lights flicker frequently and have had no issues with my electronics.

This is the easiest UPS unit I have ever set up since the battery is already connected. It is often a pain, especially with these larger, heavier units. All it required was 8 hours of charging prior to use in order to charge up the battery and subsequently allow the unit to be turned on.

There are 10 outlets – 5 battery and 5 surge only. Plus, this unit has protection for both network (RJ45) and coaxial cable connections to protect network equipment before or after a modem/router. The front of the unit has a USB A and a USB C port to power/charge devices whether on utility or battery power.

This is a huge plus for me because I like to be able to charge my phone without using up a computer USB port. Installing the utility software is simple. All I had to do was install the program and plug in the included USB cable.

The software automatically found the UPS without any issue. All of the important settings, such as when to shut down when on battery power, are all easy to find and configure. It has the option to connect to the CyberPower PowerPanel Cloud so the unit can be monitored remotely.

If a person does not want to use the software, the front display panel is simple to read with its color display. I can easily scroll through the data with the display button. Screens include input voltage, output voltage, input Hz, load in watts, load in VA, percent of capacity used, and estimated battery runtime.

When not needed, the screen turns off to save energy and to make this one sharp-looking UPS unit. Only the power button stays illuminated to show that the unit is powered on. I have my gaming tower with a 650 watt power supply, 4 monitors, and my WIFI router connected to the battery side.

The combination uses just over 200 watts or about 21% of the UPS’s capacity on average when the machine is idle. While it is not healthy for a lead acid battery to fully discharge, I pulled the plug and kept working for precisely 5 minutes.

The battery drained by 11% in 5 minutes which implies that the runtime should be about 45 minutes. This is exactly what the unit predicted as the estimated runtime before I pulled the plug. While I never anticipate running on battery power that long, there are times when my machine will be drawing a lot more power.

It is crucial that the UPS unit can stay on long enough to either allow me to safely shutdown the machine or else trigger an automatic shutdown. This unit can easily handle my demands, so I am satisfied.

I would recommend it to anyone with significant power demands, like a gaming tower with multiple monitors.

This is a great battery backup for one or two computers – there are four battery and surge protected outlets and four outlets that are surge-only protected, no battery backup for those. The only issue I have so far is that the outlets are too close together.

This means that if you’re plugging in network gear (routers, hubs, switches), sound gear (speakers, microphones) that have large plugs, you can’t use all of the outlets because some are blocked by the large plugs.

This is a significant design oversight IMO. Otherwise the unit appears to be capable of protecting your primary equipment (computers and monitors) that have standard sized plugs.

The APC 650VA and similar battery backup products have been my standby for many years. No fuss, easy to use, battery is replaceable – it just works! I bought this one to replace a different brand I was having issues with.

I use the smaller Battery backups at the desktop point locations and my smart TV’s. I use the larger 1050VA battery backups for my network rack. Works great for those short outages we get 4 or 5 times a year.

This little UPS will prevent your desktop from losing power at a bad time, and if you install the powerchute software it will shut down the computer if you are not there when the power goes out. This works as advertised, which is what you want in a UPS Only thing I do not like is the power button is not in a good place and is too easy to bump causing it to turn off.

In my opinion a UPS should have a covered power switch so you have to lift the cover to turn it on or off. I did not ding this unit for this because every UPS I have ever used has the same problem.

I bought two of these units for protection against short power interruptions. The first was connected to my desktop computer and monitor. The other was connected to my satellite receiver. While I’m working on my computer the unit, plugged into electricity, starts beeping and then turns off.

That in turn turned of my computer. Lost my work and had to reboot in Safe Mode. That happened two or three times over a couple weeks. Finally, took it out. I had a quick power interruption once since installing the other unit on my satellite receiver and TV.

It did not work to keep the power on either. A royal pain since sat receivers take about 10 minutes to reboot after a lost of electricity. If a unit can’t give me brief moment of time to shut down my computer or turn off the sat receiver, then it’s worthless.

One cannot know these things unless you actually buy it and put it online. Wasted my money. I should have bought a better, higher priced system.

I’ve been using APC products for 25+ years now and they are the only UPS product I recommended and still do. I really like this newer design, it doesn’t take up as much room as the older squattier design and with all the outlets on one side it’s easy to push this up against the wall and keep it out of the way.

After unpacking you will have to connect the internal battery before use, there are plenty of warning labels stuck to the outside of the unit warning about this. It’s a simple process, just flip the unit over, slide open the battery compartment door, take out the battery and attach the red wire to the positive terminal of the battery.

You will probably see a spark once the end of the cable touches the battery terminal, that’s normal. Once attached, put the battery back, put the cover back on and you are ready use. This one is rated at 330W max so you will want to keep the combined power rating of all devices attached below this number.

This model has 5 battery backup plugs, 2 surge protection plugs, and even has a USB charging port providing 1. 5a. I haven’t had any problems charging any of the devices I hooked up to it, be it my cell phone, Bluetooth headphones, tablets, or anything else that accepts USB charging.

It also has a USB port “cable included”, so you can connect it to your computer and use the PowerChute Personal software “downloadable on the APC website”. With it you can monitor your UPS unit and the software can also shut down your computer/laptop before the battery drains.

We get a lot of power flickers here in MS during storms and with these I know my devices won’t be shutting off all of a sudden which is harmful to electronics. I have more than one of these APC units around the house and this particular size is perfect for putting small computer, TV, modem, router, or anything that doesn’t draw a lot of power.

I have one hooked up to 16gallon reef tank just in case of a short term power outage. It provides at least 30 minutes of power, to keep the water / air pumps and heater running. I do keep the lights on the surge protection plug so they don’t drain the battery too fast.

For any possible outages longer than 30 minutes I have other solutions available. I also have another unit hooked up to my 3D printer, it will let it continue printing for at least 10-15 minutes, after an outage, “I haven’t had a power outage longer than 15 min lately so I’m not sure exactly how long it will last while the printer is running”, this at least provides enough time for the power to come back on, or for me to pause the printing so I don’t ruin a print job due to a sudden power loss.

This is another great APC product if you are looking for a good UPS unit that isn’t too expensive and can be used for many different things I’d take a look at this unit.

We sometimes get those random 5 seconds-long power outages. For someone working on a desktop PC, that’s enough to lose your work progress. I built a gaming PC, which draws more power than the average desktop PC.

It’s hooked up to the APC backup UPS along with a 27in monitor. As soon as the power goes out, this thing kicks in w/out power interruption to your equipment (hence, the name UPS for Uninterrupted Power Supply).

What’s really neat about this UPS unit is the option to connect it via USB to monitor battery runtime, and power interruption status. The Power button on the unit will flash when the power is out. You can also set it to either beep every 30 seconds, or mute it.

It’ll begin to flash rapidly when battery runtime is low, giving you time to save your work and shut down your equipment. If I’m doing regular tasks such as browsing and MS word, I can get about 20min out of this unit.

That’s more than enough time to save my work, and sometimes I even wait for the power return before shutting my PC off. Just keep an eye on the estimated battery runtime. If it gets low and the power is still out, save your work and shut down your equipment, including the UPS unit (or you’ll drain the battery which affects its lifespan since it’ll continue providing power to devices that are off).

Speaking of the importance of UPS is crucial, especially if you have costly equipment and in an area where a power outage occurs due to weather factors. Personally, I own expensive pieces of equipment; my desktop computer is Alienware Aurora, and the Alienware monitor is 34.

14″ in addition to the newest Mac Mini M1. I take care of my equipment, but last year we had a scary storm that put my area under dark days with intermittent power and power flow fluctuation. The UPS is crucial in providing several benefits that can provide adequate power, protect devices from the harm of power interruption, and supply consistent regulated voltage that keeps devices safe.

I chose this APC Gaming UPS mainly because of the lighting effects that aligns with my setup since my setup is a mix of Razer and Alienware products, and they are all about RGB, but as a function, this UPS works just like any other UPSs except the lighting that gives it a more excellent, modern, stylish look.

Setup was straightforward; before powering up the UPS, I slid out the side cover of the UPS to plug the RED terminal and then slid it back. Second, I left the UPS plugged-in outlet overnight to ensure the batteries are fully charged, and then I plugged in my computer, monitor, and Mac mini into the battery/ surge outlets.

With my setup and in a gaming session, I got back up battery time for 26 minutes which is sufficient time for me to end and save game checkpoints or even save office work safely. RGB is fantastic, and lights on the front and back can cycle through 12 different colors in sync mode, which is front or back color cannot be set separately “not a deal-breaker”.

The front screen provides various information ranging from battery info, load, and voltage. Power outlets are a total of ten (6) of them are Battery/ Surge while the rest (4) are surge only, and on the front, there are 3 USBs (2 USB-A & 1 USB-C) of power rated at 15 watts (each port provides 5 watts only if three devices are plugged in at once).

I liked this UPS; it complements my setup, and size-wise is acceptable and functions well. When I simulated that I had a power outage by turning off the outlet plug, I did not feel any power abruption occurred, and power conversion was seamless.

Takeaways: compact, battery replacement is easy, lightning is good to have, modern design, plenty of power outlets. I wish the future design may sport wifi capability and a smartphone-based app to allow control set preference rather than using APC-branded PowerChute software that looks outdated.

Other than that, it is a great UPS and works flawlessly.

I can’t say better things about this UPS. I live in an area with a lot of blackouts and random power shortages/outages. This thing has already shown me it’s value 10 fold. Is it expensive? Yes. Is it overpriced? Definitely.

Does it do it’s job and then some? Absolutely! Not only do I get all the readouts I need on the front screen but it truly gives me comfort knowing I have more than 2 minutes to shut everything down and get things sorted before losing power completely.

I have a beefy PC, RTX 3090, 12900K, basically a custom watercooled PC, 2 monitors, a DAC, speakers w subwoofer, etc. Under a heavy load while gaming on my PC, the UPS shows anywhere from 26-over 30 minutes of battery power! Not that I need to play that long while I lose power but it’s nice to know I have that buffer.

It has RGB but honestly, it isn’t needed. Thankfully you can turn it off, as it’s very bright at night. I’m okay with the light up color during the day as it’s actually useful to let you know the UPS is functioning and also does a good job at showing how much is going through the UPS.

The ring in the front will start small and try to make a fuller circle as your electronics are pulling more power. Really neat feature to be honest. This thing is great. Again, the price is a lot and you can definitely spend less and get the same performance.

But the readouts and what not, and just overall features this UPS offers is really great. I’m very happy with my purchase as I was a little weary spending a lot but needed something good that would last.

Seriously this thing is a powerhouse.

Short answer: Full sine wave battery backup unit with enough power to carry a gaming system and looks to match. The APC BackUPS Pro Gaming UPS is visually a nice departure from the stodgy old UPS that hides under your desk, adding stylish design and surprisingly useful lighting.

The display panel is tilted upwards so you can actually see it without getting down on hands and knees, with multicolor accent LEDs in the front and rear. This is a 1500VA/900W unit with enough capacity to keep a high powered gaming rig going during a power out (more on that later).

The rear panel has six surge and battery protected plugs, four additional surge protected plugs along with surge protection for a gigabit ethernet line and a cable line. The useful rear lighting I mentioned allows you to plug things in without fumbling for a flashlight to see which port is which! The front panel, in addition to the display, has four push button switches for power on/off, info selection, alarm mute, and lighting selection.

There are also three USB charging ports that can be used whether the power is on or off. Setup was easy, remove it from the box (warning, it’s a load, it tips the scales at better than 25lbs), slide the battery panel off and connect the positive (red) connector to the battery and plug it in to charge overnight.

The unit is delivered with a low charge and the battery unconnected for safety reasons. I waited until the unit was fully charged before plugging stuff in, but there is really no reason other than convenience.

Once everything is plugged in, the display will show the load, battery level, and your choice of event count, runtime estimate, load watts, load VA, load percentage, voltage out, frequency out, voltage in, or turn the panel off.

Additionally, the front and rear lights color can be selected or can individually disabled. The display is very useful, I was able to get a good estimate of the power draw for my game system, which gave me a good idea of the probably runtime.

Why do I need this on a game system? Well, in addition to gaming, that system became my exercise station during the pandemic. I have a cycling trainer and use Zwift on the system and there is nothing more annoying than getting two hours and 40 miles into a virtual ride when the whole thing drops and you lose all record of the effort.

The one minor issue I have with the APC UPS is that the switches are double duty, hold for two seconds for one function, hold for six seconds for the secondary function. While the secondary functions are mostly set and forget, keep the manual handy as there is no reference on the unit and it is easy to forget.

While the APC BackUPS Pro Gaming won’t keep things running for days, it is a great and stylish solution for rolling blackouts and short term power disruptions. It will keep things going during brownouts and allow you to shut down cleanly during extended blackouts.

The addition of charging ports is a nice touch for phone charging during extended blackouts. Highly recommended!.

I bought this Back-UPS Connect specifically to power my modem and/or router during a power outage. My modem is rated at 9W and my wireless router is rated at 30W. This UPS is rated at 50W. The unit is very similar in material and dimensions to a Nintendo Wii.

It has two rotating 120VAC plugs in back, and a hot-swappable lithium ion battery about the size of cellphone, but twice as thick and heavier. The battery is rated at 11,400mAh and has both a 2. 4A and a 1A USB power output on the front, and a micro USB input on the back to recharge.

The product also provides surge protection. I tested this UPS powering both modem and router, and the battery lasted 40 minutes before battery was discharged to 60%. I also tested the battery powering only the modem, and the battery lasted 95 minutes until it reached 60% charge.

Recharging the battery using the base is quick, but the instructions advise that charging by USB takes longer. The devices plugged into this UPS ran undisturbed when AC power was cut as well as when AC power was restored.

The 1A USB charging port on the base works when the AC power is out, if the battery is plugged in. If house power is on, the plugged in electronics will continue to operate if you remove the battery, and the ON/OFF button will turn amber.

The product had adequate, understandable documentation enclosed and was suitably packaged. The BGE50ML is a handy and quality product. Edit: I changed the title and my rating on this product from three to five eggs.

First I dropped my objection to the proprietary battery. As this is a unique product I don’t believe there is any alternative but to create a unique power pack. That’s one egg. Second, the manufacturer warranties the battery for three years.

It is a positive that APC is a well established company whom I believe will be around in three years to honor that warranty should that be needed. That’s another egg. I am still concerned about future availability of new batteries, but I can’t penalize in anticipation.

If there was a “0” on it’s rating, I would have rated as such. After receiving the first unit, I followed the instructions for charging the battery. The APC UPS unit with battery was completely discharged.

After charging it overnight, the was no indication of charge. I returned the item to the local Staples store the next day for credit and they ordered another same model. This one was also received in the same condition.

Somewhat Non Operative, dead battery;however this one will turn on but not charge the battery. The expense for shipping /special and handling it back to APC for warranty is not an sensible option as it has Lithium Ion battery.

In theory this unit would meet my needs IF it were functional, but it is not. Let the buyer beware. Two defective units in a row should tell someone in management APC quality control has fallen to an all time low based on my experience with these two units.

Warranty is almost worthless to me because of special labeling, packaging and shipping restrictions for the Lithium Ion battery. I do not recommend this product based on my personal experience.

APC, since it’s inception has been the Industry Leader in regard to Computer & Network protection. “Simply the BEST”! This product as expected did not fail to impress. Although a bit pricey (4 star Value), I made my purchase, knowing APC would protect my equipment better than any other Product available.

The removable and portable power pack, assures me that I will have all the standby power I need, as well as being able to recharge the portable power pack (via USB) if on the road longer than expected.

If you are a frequent traveler, this product is a must have, in these high tech days. Charging a vast array of power hungry devices.

I am impressed with Tripp-Lite’s products. Although they are reliable and perform well, I do not mean to overshadow the quality of their products with my next statement. They back their products 110% and they have the best customer service I have ever experienced in my life – and that is not an exaggeration.

I have dealt with Tripp-Lite customer service on two separate occasions, once with technical support and once with a claim. As a consumer, I would expect any company to meet the standards of good customer service.

The first time I dealt with Tripp-Lite, that expectation was far exceeded. The second time it blew me away. What do I mean about being blown away? How do I put it? I would say that Tripp-Lite has set the standard for excellent customer service, but I am not sure there is even a term for what I have experienced with them.

I had an idea of what made excellent customer service; Tripp-Lite went well beyond that. Needless to say, I am a loyal Tripp-Lite customer and, as much as I tell others about my experiences with Tripp-Lite, I am probably one of their best unofficial advertisers.

I tell anyone who needs electronics, with Tripp-Lite’s quality products, warranties, and unreal customer service, you just cannot go wrong with buying from Tripp-Lite. I love Tripp-Lite products because I’m not just getting a product, I am getting a whole company who will back it.

As I said, It’s impossible to go wrong. Without a doubt, hands-down, Tripp-Lite is the best in the business.

Looks cool in my network rack, but wish I had read the reviews. The (very loud) fan runs 24/7, and not because the unit is warm. My decibel meter averaged 55-60 db for the fan. Seemed to work fine when I disconnected the AC power with no interruption to the connection NAS and switch.

Definitely would not have bought if I had read the reviews. Hadn’t planned on having to soundproof my network closet! If you want this for an entertainment system setup or anywhere you can’t sequester the noise, you’ll be thoroughly disappointed with how loud it is.

I would not purchase again.

Where I live, the power is constantly flickering on and off. That’s a death sentence for electronics. I needed a UPS to keep a TV, wireless cable receiver, and soundbar from frying. I already have 3 UPS units for other equipment.

I like this UPS because it can be used horizontally or vertically. The only thing I wasn’t expecting was the fact that it is quite heavy. From looking at the photo it seems small. I should have check it’s weight.

I know from previous experience with Tripp Lite, it will definitely do the job and keep my electronics safe. If the power goes out for a longer period of time, the UPS keeps the the TV and the rest running until my generator kicks in.

The APC 2200 tower has evolved over the years (SU, SUA, SMT, SMC), but the basics remain the same: powerful, reliable, functional. I have an SU2200I with a serial connection from 1999 still working, and this SMT2200I with USB from 2011 is really much the same.

The 2200 is now my UPS of choice for my home office in 3 locations, providing good power and longevity for computers and Hi-Fi alike. They need room. They are heavy. They need a C19 power cable, one up from a kettle cable.

Replacement batteries are easy to fit and last many years. Much the same can be said for the 1500 models except they need less room, are less heavy and use a kettle cable. I’ve been using APC exclusively at home for more than a decade and recommend them.

It was not clearly stated that the plug was not for a typical receptacle. But the plug was wrapped tightly. I discarded the enormous amount of packaging and discovered this upon set up. Office Depot WILL NOT take the return! Unbelievable.

With 10 (!) outlets, pure sine wave output and AVR, this thing is a beast. 2,700 Watts of output is nice, too. It’s large (17” x 7. 7” x 21. 4”) heavy (116lbs. ) and requires a rare L5-30R (30 Amp) power input connector, so it’s not the easiest UPS to install, but once you get everything in place, it offers the absolute highest capacity you can get in a single cabinet, 120V UPS solution.

Consider it for large, power intensive applications.

I am currently using this model in a small office. We have our network devices hooked up to it as well as a computer station. During the warner months we have a lot of brief outages and brown outs. This device has been so important to our company.

It keeps us connect during those very brief power outages. During longer outages this unit it keeps us connected and gives us time to save our work. It’s been a time saver. I liked it so much I have purchase another one for our phone systems and other equipment.

In California we’re prone to many weather related power outages from downed lines, wildfires, and even car accidents (2021 over 10 times). Our Connected Home is full of wifi-devices, many of them are POE powered as well.

So, even in an outage, our Tripplite UPSs keep our power constant, clean, and flowing during the frequent one to ten minute faults and failures. Previously we’d gone with a competitor but after years of failing batteries and THEN super high replacement costs, Tripplite is bringing value and peace of mind.

After a little over a month, the UPS started to make a high-pitch whine (my guess is coil whine from the charging circuit) and reporting battery life of 55% despite having no power loss to the mains power.

Tried to contact Cyberpower support, which they were decently quick to respond via email, but clearly did not want to read over any of my details or issues very clearly. After a bit of back and forth, they determined the UPS was working fine, except the issue they were trying to solve, was not the issue I was having.

At this point I’m under the assumption they are not going to do anything to rectify the issue. As far as the UPS goes when it was functioning, it was okay. It’s a little on the cheaper side and should’ve been a warning sign to begin with.

In general, the consumer UPS market kinda sucks and you get taken for a ride in terms of price for what you get. In general, a good UPS comes with voltage regulation (in the case of a brown-out), simulated sine-wave output, and some sort or power bypass for when voltage from the wall is good rather than passing through the battery, which this had all of those, the quality and ultimately the companies lack of customer service has turned me away for good.

Cyberpower’s customer service has left me with a $170 paperweight, which at least I can get a replacement battery for $105. This is my 2nd Cyberpower UPS that’s up and failed me within the past year.

When it works, it works very well. The first unit purchased from Best Buy had to be sent back after 6 months as it was no longer switching to battery power. When the replacement unit arrived from CyberPower it lasted two weeks before it started producing a burning smell.

Back that went this week for replacement. with a 3-4 week turn around time. Impressed by the customer service Cyber Power provided, I purchased a second new UPS while waiting for the replacement of the first unit.

However, I received a clearly used unit from Best Buy with the wrong batteries inside that were completely dead. Returned it immediately – hopefully it’s not being sold as new for a third time now? Given the three lemons I have had, I am not sure how well the fourth unit to come through my door will work.

I will say that CyberPower appears to have a great warranty associated with their products, but I have only had a “working” UPS unit for 14 out of the 75 days thus far in 2023.

I have a new Samsung 2021 Neo Q90A TV with sound bar, 2 Xboxes and google wifi and media player. We flipped off the main panel breaker over night and come morning flipped it back on. The 2 month old TV did a freak out and Samsung did a RA to the store I bought the TV from.

I explained to them what happened and they said it don’t matter, something is wrong with the set so They’re giving me a new set as this one is only 2 months old. Samsung set up an appointment for an in home repair, new panel and main board but it would take to long due to Covid so an RA was issued.

The Authorized repair man said 99% of the issues are caused from dirty power, so I bought this UPS and so far so good. If it actually auto regulates the AC power to save my home theater then that’s what I want.

I didn’t spend a bunch of money on such an expensive TV that’s so sensitive to the voltage to have it act up on me. Over all Im happy and if it stops dirty power then that’s all that matters.

If you’ve bought one of these, you know why they’re good to have with a gaming PC especially, but any PC or other setup you want protected fully during brownouts and blackouts. I have a second one this size from another company.

I use this one to power 5 monitors (3 of them are on my gaming PC) and a secondary PC system that has an i7 8700, 550W PSU, RTX 2060, 2x SSD’s, 1x HD. The one I have from another company this size is used to protect a high-end gaming PC with a 1000W PSU, 3900X, Custom Water Loop, RX 6800XT, 5x SSD’s, 1x HD.

I gave this 4 stars because this one requires you to remove the battery cover and flip the battery around to make it ready to go before you plug it up. In other words, the battery is not charged when you get it which may or may not be a good thing.

Regardless it works like it should for what I’m using it for. I get around 40 Minutes off the 5 monitors and the PC that is hooked up to it. I get roughly the same off the other brand for the big gaming PC.

So ideally, if you’ll looking at one of these for a gaming system, it’ll give you enough time to power it off the right way during an outage and keep your system from potentially getting damaged from the surging that occurs on both the outage and the power coming back on.

Not much else to say about it. The display panel gives you information about your draw, what your equipment hooked to it is actually using in wattage, time remaining on battery, battery level, etc. It’s fairly straight forward.

Sockets on one side for battery and on the other side for passthrough outlets like a power strip. It also has in/out for both ethernet and coaxial protection and a RJ-45 to USB for some software you can use to control it thru a PC if you choose.

The UPS is fine but the PowerChute software that comes with it doesn’t work if the PC has Windows Server O/S on it. Very disappointing. The PowerChute software is critical to tell the PC to turn off when the UPS is running out of power during a power failure.

APC confirms that their software only works with their Smart-UPS line and intentionally doesn’t support these Back-ups if Windows Server is the O/S. That may make sense for servers in a data center but not for individual PCs.

This became a huge problem when several PCs using these UPS were corrupted because of a power failure that drained the battery completely, and Hyper-V and VMWare VM files were corrupted. Also our domain controller.

Ugh! Alternatively, we discovered that the software with CyberPower UPS works, so we’ll be replacing our APC Back-ups with those moving forward.

Would rate 5 stars however the battery would not connect to the unit when I was setting it up from new. When you unbox this you have to open the UPS, remove the battery and flip it over and slide it back in, this connects the battery terminals to the UPS internally allowing it to work.

On my unit however the battery would not slide back in all the way, looking at the battery-side of the connector I could see that the tabs where not centered in the opening but rather pushed all the way to one side, this was causing the tabs to hit the mating connectors instead of mating with them like they’re suppose to.

Simple fix was to insert a flat-head screw driver into the battery terminals and just move the tabs away from the connector walls ever so slightly (like 1 or 2mm). After this the battery slid in perfectly and the unit works.

My application is to power my cable modem and WiFi router if there’s a power failure because many of our devices attached run on battery power anyway (laptops, tablets, phones, etc. ). According to the LCD display on the UPS my cable modem and router are only using 9W and the run time would be 390 minutes (6.

5 hours), very impressive!!! Plus for grins I connected this to my camera security system to see how long it could power the cameras and DVR, I have a LOREX 2K analog wired system, it uses (for 4 cameras) 15W in the daytime and 25W at night when the IR illuminators come on.

According to the UPS it could power the system for 280 minutes (4. 5 hours) in the daytime, less at night, also not bad! I’m very happy with this purchase because my intent was to power low-wattage equipment for the longest time practical and although APC does not publish run time for anything less than 90W it seems that it will run for quite a while in this case.
