20 Best Underwear For Vaginal Health (2023 Updated)

I had been researching more hygienic ways to handle my period because tampons were always a no-go for me and I was getting tired of pads. My symptoms were becoming too much and my periods were more and more debilitating.

So, about 3 months ago I decided to give Thinx a try. My expectations were high at all. I was expecting some leakage and I was just not ready to believe the hype, but I tried anyway because again, I needed to find something better.

Thinx exceeded my expectation the first time. I purchased 6 pairs of undies (air hiphugger, Super hiphugger, super hi-waist, heavy cotton brief, cotton boyshort, and heavy boyshort) and the sleep shorts.

There was absolutely no leakage not even when I slept. My cramps were even pretty much non-existent. The fatigue, fevers, and pain that usually accompanied my period were even subsided. But what really wowed me was how simple it was the wash and wear after the first use.

My second and third periods with my Thinx undied were mind-blowing. My periods were actually shorter, moderate flow and my symptoms had subsided. I am a Thinx girl for life now and find myself encouraging all my friends, family, co-workers and even strangers I meet in the waiting room at my gynecologist to give Thinx a try.

I bought my Thinx after needing to spend unused HSA dollars at the end of last year. I hoped, but didn’t have a complete buy-in to the concept of “period underwear”. I spent two days going down a YouTube Thinx review rabbit hole and For sure thought, well even if it saves a few bucks on pads in the future, I’ll be happy.

When I say, THINX IS THE ULTIMATE GAMECHANGER!!!!! I just couldn’t believe how well they worked and how comfortable they felt. For me, my time of the month is kinda uncertain. I can usually “feel” when I’m starting my cycle, but don’t always know how heavy and when the heaviness will most likely occur.

So here’s how I Thinx and plan out my time of the month. I purchased 11 pair for just under $275 shipping included. Four (4) super cotton briefs, Two (2) cotton briefs, Two (2) boyshorts, Two (2) cotton thongs, One (1) airHipHugger.

I’ve been rationing out my pads all my life like a pro so naturally I tend the do the same with my period underwear now. Let’s start with the easiest way to work – backwards. For nighttime I’ve found that the boy shorts are CLUTCH! They make me feel like I’m sleeping in normal night shorts.

So comfy. And they have the correct about of absorbency and coverage for the tossing and turning I do. Those are strategically wore on my two heaviest nights (typically days 2 & 3) after the first day of heavy flow).

The next easiest rationing decision for me is to save the two thongs for the end of the cycle. This is when I’m unsure when it’ll be over and I’m spotting. I typically can get a full day wear out of each of them (Days 4/5/or 6).

The tricky part is the beginning. I’ve learned a tissue in the underwear trick for as long as I can remember so I do that until I’m full on cycle mode. Then I put on my super cotton briefs and start oscillating between the two styles and absorbency of briefs I own.

If flow is really heavy, I get 4-6 hours out of the super cotton briefs. So accounting for the fact that I can wear the boy shorts overnight without changing. I wear a combo of the super cotton briefs and cotton briefs on Days (2-4/ or 5).

The airHipHugger is the only leftover and have only now had the experience that I needed to wear this one Day 1 to Day 2 because I was spotting but unsure of when the full heavy flow would begin. So for good measure, I’ve got on the airHipHugger.

This is how I Thinx and it’s been working very seamlessly. Washing out my underwear is a breeze. I spend the 3-5 minutes after changing a pair to rinse with cold water and then (after wringing out at the sink) I put the used wet pair into a water proof period bag that I bought that looks like a small airport cosmetic case.

It’s functional and does not raise any eyebrows as I walk back from the bathroom with it. I typically also just wash out the bathroom sink with a few pumps of soap and/or use a bathroom wipe to put the sink back to normal.

It does not feel like a burdensome process at all. Finally once home, I let all my used (damp but not drippy) Thinx dry out to be tossed in the cold wash on wash day. What a privilege it has been to period with Thinx.

I highly recommend buying at least a few (maybe try the cotton brief and the airHipHigger and boyshort) to those who are on the fence. I think you’ll really appreciate the comfort of knowing that your period is well maintained and hassle free like I do.

I was super excited about trying these, but I’m slightly disappointed with the sizing. I followed the size chart and got a medium (125lbs, 5ft, 2/4) and they’re pretty tight when I put them on. Although at the end of one nights worth of wear, they’re stretched out and move.

Maybe the fit just isn’t for me, but feels like there’s not a lot of coverage in the back. Other than that slight issue, they do well absorbing and wash easily.

I loved these originally! Thought the price was amazing with the quantity and quality. However, as time passes I am no longer satisfied and will have to discontinue there use after only a few months of ownership.

I bought them at the end of September. Is it April so about 7/8 months of ownership. They now have stretched out and cause a rash type feeling from the fabric of the pantries rubbing against my inner vaginal thigh – essentially the spot where the leg and vagina meets and folds.

The fabric is to rough and thick now and no longer fits sleek so it rubs. You sort of feel like you are wearing it backwards but you are not. Anyway pretty sad it didn’t last even a ‘em year and I will need to try another set.

I originally loved these though and thing they are great testers!.

These underwear were EXACTLY what I was looking for. The first day of my peroid and the last 2 to 3 days I have very little bleeding. I felt so wasteful using pads during these days not to mention the unneeded uncomfortableness of a pad.

I flow really heavy for two days and am scared to death to try them on those days not to say they won’t work but I would have to change them so often I might not catch it in time. But for light bleeding its been a game changer for me.

They fabric is soo soft and comfortable and not bulky at all in the crotch. I totally dig the black, for obvious reasons, but maybe changing the inside of the crotch area to a light grey would be better.

It’s challenging to see how much you have bled on lighter days with the crotch being black.

I like the product but my issue with it is that I bought size large but it keeps riding up in the back and in the front it keeps rolling down under my belly. I don’t know if that is because I bought the wrong size.

Do they run true to size? I would hate to get the next size for fear it would be to big. Any suggestions?.

As a young adult, I never grew out of wetting the bed so as you can imagine I was mortified to go to sleep-overs, hotels, and sleep in any place other than my bed. I was ashamed of this habit, that I couldn’t control, and felt that there was nobody my age that I could to talk to and relate with.

The stress of not only sleeping over at another person’s house, but even sleeping in my own bed was overwhelming. My parents would get frustrated that I still had this habit in high school so I would hide the fact that I would be washing my sheets at 2am almost everyday.

The investment is so worth it. I’ve tried everything from mattress covers/specialized sheets, waking up in the middle of the night to use the restroom, restricting water intake and of course those horrendous pairs of underwear that have alarms attached that beep (exactly the same as fire alarms) when you start to leak.

I would never recommend the use of alarm-attached underwear because coming from experience, the whole ordeal was traumatizing. Imagine being awoken by a fire alarm every night as a young child. It was horrible and I never want anyone to have to experience that.

It’s true that Speax are expensive but in the long run its a better investment than buying diapers/briefs or the increased water bill from washing sheets. This is just my opinion. Hopefully it helps those out there that are struggling with the same issue.

I have been wearing these undies since I placed my first order about 6 years ago (might be longer). I feel so confident in them that I stopped wearing any other type of undies. With each order the quality seems to get better.

My only complaint is that these undies do start to fall apart if you wash them with the rest of your laundry. The edges aren’t stitched, so the glue deteriorates and the clear tape inside falls out. I admit they said not to wash and dry in the laundry, but I’m always on the run and never separate delicates like I should.

Each order seemed to last a bit longer than the ones from the last order. I just placed a new order for 7 pairs because all of mine now have completely fallen apart. But, even knowing that, I still will only buy SPEAX (used to be Icon).

It seems that a lot of knock offs have surfaced over the years, but im sticking with Thinx products. Their customer service is absolutely top notch and the product works wonders for my confidence in social situations.

I was really hoping that these would work, but I had a number of issues. First, I like full derriere coverage. On these, the cut was a little narrower, so that the edges would ride up over my bum, especially on the right side.

No amount of tugging would keep it in place. Annoying. The second issue was that the absorbent crotch was rather stiff which was intensely uncomfortable. If I was sitting down, I didn’t notice it so much, but walking around was uncomfortable.

Thirdly, I wanted to wear them when sleeping as I tend to leak a little getting up in the middle of the night to use the bathroom. The first night wearing Speax, when I got up, I did leak a little. It absorbed nicely, no complaints there, but the crotch now had absorbed some urine, and was very uncomfortable.

Between tugging at the leg holes to get them in the right on the bum, and the hard thickness of the slightly filled absorbent crotch, I couldn’t go back to sleep. I ended up changing into my regular panties with an incontinence pad.

(I use Always light extra long) I ended up throwing the Speax away.

I CANT believe these are leak proof- since they are so damn cute. So I had to test them myself. Seeing is believing. The name “PROOF” is so fitting for these. I also ordered the briefs for my mom as these are a wonderful transition for my mother as she began to have a few “accidents” – Proof undies protected her clothing and her dignity!.

I usually don’t buy lace underwear because they always tear so easily but thought I’d try these because they are period underwear and are way cuter than any other period underwear I’ve seen on the market.

Let me just say not only do these work for covering all of my leak needs, but the lace is actually really high quality I’m very impressed! If you haven’t tried Proof, please do yourself a favor and get yourself a pair!!!.

I always feel so gross when I’m on my period. The least I can do is wear something cute that also protects me from bleeding on my pants. Proof is the best period underwear I’ve tried. Others tend to wear out fast or feel diaper – ish.

This is a great little panty. The fit is perfect. They stay put and the fabric is very comfortable. I have some more details below, but all you need to know is perfect fit, comfortable and really cute.

I’m buying more. Frankly, I wasn’t excited about the idea of a thong with a lace waistband. The ones I have tried before I found the lace rolled up. On these the lace is more like a stretch mesh; they stayed put and laid flat all day, which was a pleasant surprise.

I’m also not normally a big modal fan, but this time the fabric feels nicer, maybe because there’s more Spandex in it. To repeat, very, very nice.

I’m not sure I would call this a String Bikini because it has a beautiful lace waistband that is so comfortable you will not want to take it off. I love this Soft Touch Lace Modal String Bikini. The lace makes it cute and sexy.

The size is right on, and it washes well but I air dry it. I’ll be getting more and trying the Soft Touch Lace Thong. You will just love this one.

I’m 5’9”, 140 lbs and usually wear size M in Soma vanishing edge underwear, high leg. This time I ordered S in leakproof brief and it is way too big! The underwear fits more like a cheeky hipster. It is very low, and sits loosely on my hips.

At first I was a little disappointed, but then, the time came to try it out, and I must say IT WORKS LIKE A CHARM! My day 1 is super heavy and I felt dry all day long! No heavy pads, no uncomfortable tampons! Yay! Rinsed it in cold water with some soap and placed on the towel to dry.

By morning it was ready to wear. I am definitely getting more, a size smaller this time.

I adore these panties, I bought three and then I bought 6 more. They are great to sub for pantiliners and I think of all the plastic and packaging I’m saving by using these underwear instead of buying pantiliners.

They are very soft and have a great fit. I’ve tried other companies leak proof panties and they have been awful in fit, material and absorbency. I really love these and now these are the only panties I wear.

I finally decided to try and wear these panties for a whole cycle without relying on a cup, pad, or tampon. I didn’t expect to make it, but they were amazing! The liner absorbed about 8 hours of flow, even on my heavy days.

The absorbent section goes all the way from the top of the front to the top of the back, so I didn’t leak on the sheets while sleeping. The best part is they fit well (size up one size!) and the liner didn’t feel like I had a pad between my legs all day.

There is some extra laundering involved, but they came out totally clean and ready for wear.

I bought a pair when these panties came out. I was a little hesitant to try them, but I am glad I did, I have few more of these panties now. I love them! they are very comfy, discreet and not leaking 🙂 Also I do not get my usual “pad irritation” from them.

However if you are a very heavy bleeder like me you have 2 options- 1/ change the panties more often ( great if you can stay home ) or 2/ use them as a backup for your tampon ( if you have to work). So no biggie for me personally.

Also I stopped buying pads completely and only use tampons during my heaviest days. No more leaks, no more anxiety about the blood gush every time I move. The panties wash great, but do not forget to air dry them.

I am lucky to have a nightwash+ air dry cycle in my washing machine so I toss them into the wash and in the morning I have them all clean, dry and ready to go.

I ordered these one day and they arrived the next! Perfect! I’m getting ready to travel and I noticed my usual underwear drawer was getting a little low, when I travel I bring undies that have seen better days and toss them as not to drag around dirty clothes and to help free up a little space every day.

My family laughs at the state of my underwear that are comfy and cozy and have rips and holes and snags. I decided to bite the bullet and order these in nude since I was traveling with leggings (gray and black) and some very light colored pajamas and most of my undies are black.

I wasn’t sure what to expect but the price point was PERFECT for me. When they arrived I was surprised by the color as they appear lighter on both laptop and phone but overall they are just fine. The quality is nice, stitching, feel, everything just feels nice.

They are not your typical undies. They are nylon/spandex with a nice sized band, the photos other have posted show them exactly as they are though I’ve also included photos as well. These will go perfectly with what I wanted to wear.

I think they will hold up well in the wash as I have other pairs similar to this though I don’t wear them often I do like them. I think these will ease up on panty lines compared to other brands of basic undies.

These undies are a game changer on several levels! They provide complete confidence against leakage (especially the bamboo style) and feel so comfortable to wear. They are very affordable when you consider no more need to purchase pads! And what a great eco-friendly factor that is! I eventually purchased 12 of each style (24 total) once I received the first order and experienced what a great product it was!.

These panties initially seemed like they were pretty close to perfect as opposed to what I’ve been finding in the stores recently. However after just one or two wears and carefully washing these underwear in a laundry bag and even letting them air dry and not be exposed to other linens you can tell by the photographs that they have little balls of fabric on the outside and that means that the fabric quality is not that great.

I’ve had other panties made of similar material and the balls of fabric were not an issue after a year of wear so not sure what went wrong here. They are not actually bikini style they are cross between cheeky and bikini.

That’s also a little annoying because I’m not looking for a style of panty that is trying to cover for the fact that I have no butt. I need full coverage, comfort and zero wedgies. Also they almost seem to fit like briefs because the waistline is so high on the panty and it’s not particularly flattering or sexy.

I have purchased these before in a retail outlet so this is actually a repurchase. I love these briefs. The fabric is very soft & comfortable but holds its shape. But especially I like them because they do not roll, either down at the waist or up in the back at the legs.

This underwear is so freaking comfortable. I bought them to sleep in, and most bottoms drive me crazy while I sleep, but these are so perfect. They also don’t ride up which, when you have a big butt, is a gd miracle! The fabric is super soft and I’m hoping they hold up after lots of washes.

I love all Felina products I have bought. I have trouble finding panties that come to about 1 inch below my belly button. So I went ahead and got these high-waisted versions. I love the product, I just wish they were a little less “tall”.

I’m pretty large in the testicle department and I’ve got kind of big thighs, so comfort has always been a losing battle for me and constantly adjusting myself was just a part of life. I saw a sponsored ad for these on Saberspark’s YouTube channel and he really sold me on the promise of everything staying in place (a promise I’ve heard from brands before and been let down on) so I decided to give them a try.

Every other product or solution I’ve tried (everything from jock straps to using the waistband of my boxers like a sling to hold my junk up) has either not held me in place during activity, or held me in place but felt uncomfortably tight and restrictive.

I had no adjustment period with these, from day one these are the most supportive and comfortable boxers I’ve ever worn. They’re soft, light, breathable, stretchy, form fitting, and most importantly; everything always stays in place without ever feeling restrictive! These literally avoid every problem I’ve ever had with undergarments.

I just bought a dozen new pairs of boxers and tossed all my old ones before getting these and I already want to get rid of those and replace my whole collection with Sheath. I’m currently wearing a non-sheath pair of boxers and I actually hate them.

These are nice high quality boxers and I hate them. They’re brand new and I want to get rid of them. They were expensive and I want to throw them away. Even with all this rambling I cannot accurately express how much I love these boxers.

Great support for athletic or regular use, esp. in warmer weather or when sweating would be a problem. They keep me cool and dry! And they dry quickly in the rack after a wash. I have had just a little pilling on these with wear/use.

I think it is to be expected and isn’t concerning. I wear a large in these and a medium in sheath 4. 0 underwear, not sure why. I think the latter must stretch out a bit while the air low maintain their shape.

I was worried the would look see-through but they don’t when you have them on. I have not noticed Ed that they pick up any odors like some athletic/synthetic material can. Easy to wash and dry on the line, though I have put them in the dryer as well with no problem.

Secure. This is the best way I can describe how these feel. Everything has it’s own place to be and everything is in it’s place. Nothing feels sticky or like it is competing for space where there is not enough space.

Nothing gets swampy because nothing is touching and there is no need to readjust yourself throughout the day because well everything has a separate place to be and everything stays in it’s place. One downside I have found is post urination is a bit of a damp to get Mr happy back in his home so wash your hands man when owning and operating these boxer briefs.

Overall, the best most comfortable underwear I have ever had. 10/10 would recommend and will be personally be a return customer when these are back in stock. For those on the fence, I would recommend buying one pair to test drive and see what you think before investing full send into a whole new set of underwear.

The bulk of my review is on the super leakproof dream short. There’s some stitching on the sides of the gusset (on the dream short) that are uncomfortable to wear. Which is disappointing because I liked how breathable the material felt, but I don’t feel comfortable wearing it because of that small bit of stitching on the sides that borderline hurt whenever I closed my legs.

If you’re sensitive in that area, I don’t recommend this particular pair unless they do something about how coarse that stitching felt. The other one that I bought, the cotton super leak boxer brief was good though.

I’m just disappointed that I only have one pair to wear on my period instead of the two to change between that I was hoping for. I’m giving three stars because this review seems to be based on both of the two.

The cotton one is 5 stars, the super leakproof dream short I give 2 stars. For comfort give the cotton one 4/5, cuz I at times felt too damp, and the dream short I give 2, that stitching really bit into my skin.

Effectiveness, for me, since i only really got to wear the cotton one with a wash in between while I briefly wore the dream short, was very good. But I’m usually about medium on my period.

I’m actually looking forward to how comfortable I will during my next period! Thank you for saving me the monthly frustration of shopping for pads without wings and dreading any physical activity because of the tampon/pad dilemma.

These take some of the angst out of having a period and leaks aren’t a thing! I have a heavy flow and these get me through a work day without fear. You should be 3-5 so you can rotate them because they need an extra dry to be just right and I do recommend washing them by themselves so they can move about.

A line dry after a standard wash/dry cycle does the trick! These pay for themselves instantly in comfort and over time in not buying feminine hygiene products. Also the environment will thank us! I recommend buying your normal size and not going up, they will fit better a little snug than a little loose.

I’ve been trying zero waste period options for years now, and I finally tried a pair of Knix Dream Shorts as a nighttime option for my heaviest nights. I. am. in. love. I had an exceptionally bad period this time around, with lots of bleeding and cramping that woke me up in the middle of the night, and not having to bother with pads or menstrual cups at least helped me feel a little more comfortable.

There was no leakage and in general, I felt really secure/ not preoccupied that they would leak. The fabric is so soft and the cut is super flattering. I just bought more as well as some reusable pads.

The underwear are beautiful & so flattering! I was pleasantly surprised by this the first time I tried them on. This is my first ever experience with period underwear. The quality is very nice. I wore the mesh lace hipster the first day I started my period.

I was very comfortable all day & it was so nice to not have to worry about a pad. However, today is the second day of my period & my flow is significantly heavier. Though I am wearing the moderate to high absorbancy, I was only able to wear the underwear for 2 hours & they started to leak through, mainly through the sides.

Luckily I brought pads & underwear to work just in case. It was quite an uncomfortable situation. I think this is a great product for lighter days & the company has great potential. Saalt, I love what you are doing.

Just think you just need more research & product development for those heavier days. My hope is to be able to wear solely underwear throughout the length of my period.

I purchased these for my daughter who, up until now used pads. I remember what a pain pads are so when I saw these I was intrigued. Purchased her three pairs(in two different styles) to start. Was very happy to find the pink pair was lined in black.

Not gonna lie, the thought of them just being a super light pink made me not want to order them, I only did because she really wanted pink. When my daughter called me and told me they just make her feel better as a person I was elated for her.

I know how free I felt when I purchased my first cup (saalt obviously lol). It’s odd the amount of weight that comes off your shoulders when you find products like these. You don’t think, at any point, about how much stress you carry around over period management until it’s magically lifted.

My daughter and myself highly recommend finding your perfect Saalt fit for you. If your on the fence just do it. You will not regret it! My only regret is using tampons until I was 40! Never again!!! 🎉🎉🎉.

I bought a pair of these after using a few pairs of Thinx for a year or two. I think these are higher quality and I really like that the padding is much thinner. I wouldn’t use these for a heavy or moderate flow, but I like using them as backup to my Saalt cup (also a fantastic product) or on light days.

Actually, one of the things I like most is that I can use these when I’m not on my period, they do a great job of absorbing sweat and discharge. I’ve been looking for an alternative to pantiliners and I think these are it! Also, I love the design, they’re so pretty! I’m hoping the mesh will hold up over the long term, but so far, it’s been better than I had hoped.

Please don’t stop selling these. Ever.
