20 Best Under Counter Can Opener (2023 Updated)

I love this. I have a tiny kitchen and I’ve been having a hard time opening can. This is just what I needed. Product came quick and just like them picture.

We love these. Bought this same years ago for a family member and it outlasted every other one. Looked everywhere for one reasonable to purchase and this one was a bonus for us. They are awesome just very hard to find.

Love this Can Opener. Had one just like it from the 80’s but a new one works so much better. Sad that they quit making them and you have to buy it from Ebay. At least you find new or almost new on Ebay which is where I got it.

I had this can opener for years but replacement blades are no longer available. Found a new one on eBay a few years ago and have been using it until the blade no longer would open cans. Found another one on eBay for around the same price as the previous purchase and bought it.

The only difference between it and the old one was the color. The new one was cream color and the old one was black so I just replaced the blade on the old one with the blade from the new one. Of course, that makes the blade a very expensive blade and I don’t think I will do that again.

It’s too bad that replacement blades are no longer available for a really nice looking, compact can opener.

We ordered the most recent model of B & D can opener, only to discover it cannot be installed on our older styled cupboard. I cannot express my sheer delight and relief to have found this model in a new and unused condition! I had owned this very model for nearly 40 years, when my dear hubby tried to force a “clamp” and broke a piece off.

Still, we used it for several more years in it’s ‘handicapped’ state. At my age, I simply cannot use a hand crank can opener. This under-cabinet mounted model can take on any sized can with ease. It may sound funny, but it is a joy to use; and it should outlive us!.

It’s about what we expected, except I had hoped I could install it in the same cabinet holes as the previous one, but the back holes were closer together. Also there were only three plastic spacers to bring it below the cabinet overhang, and I needed four.

I had to cut one of the spacers from the previous opener to bring it far enough down that the can opener lever could be raised enough to engage the can. In addition, the previous B&D opener had a nice rounded, almost artsy look, whereas the new one is just a functional “box”.

When my old can opener broke down I went shopping for a new. As I was shopping I ran into this under the cupboard mounted space saving one and told myself that this could really save me some space on the counter and its GE so it has to be decent.

I got home and mounted it under my cupboard near the sink and found it was really quick and easy to mount. It was also small enough that my knife rack fit under it perfectly allowing me to pull the blades out easy without interfering with the can opener and without dripping contents of the can onto the rack.

But when I went to open the can I had issues getting the thing to attach to the can to open it. It kept releasing the can and I couldn’t get it opened. For a while I was using a hand opener to open cans while trying to figure this thing out.

I eventually figured it out and now I don’t have much trouble with it. Occasionally it still releases a can but very rarely and usually its with larger cans,. Performance It works ok once you figure out the technique Durability seems good to me but it hasn’t gone through much here Design again I like the size and ease of installation but it needs work on opening cans.

I had envisioned using Black and Decker Spacemaker appliances to save room on the counters. It worked for the toaster oven. I love the fact that it is up off the cabinet and easy to clean and bake things.

The can opener is a different story entirely. We don’t even use it anymore. About the only thing I can think of that it was good for was making a hole in a perfectly good cabinet. The can opener works ok, but when you go to release the can from the blade, the contents of the can are jarred and it just makes a mess by splashing everywhere.

Black and Decker makes wonderful products. This one just falls short for me though there may be other people out there that are in love with this product. When we remodel the kitchen, this can opener will go away.

Until then, it looks pretty hanging from the cabinet, but it is useless as far as I am concerned. Based on my experiences with this opener, I cannot recommend it.

Arrived quickly and was exactly as advertised. Was missing mounting screws, but was lucky to have some on hand to use for installation. Bought for my sister who has a medical handicap that prevents her from doing many things.

This can opener is so easy to use, that she can now open cans with ease.

Having had an electric can opener for well over 30 years, I found the cost of a new one APPALING!!! I am very glad to have found and purchased this one–it’s new, and works great!! Wish it had come with instructions.

i couldn’t believe it that this can opener opened 2 cans for me in less than 40 seconds. it’s been such a long long time since i had no problem opening a can. for decades all i used to use was manual can openers and had never owned an electric can opener until around 7 years ago when i realized the quality and lifespan of manual can openers is extremely shody these days! i’ve had several of them brake on me in last 15 yrs.

or so while i was using them. and what makes it so bad is that many companies cans are not even all the way around which makes them difficult to open cans. i cook once a week for the following week which consists of all my meats as well as can goods.

so when i cook which is time consuming i don’t need the extra hastle of fumbling with substandard can openers so i truly appreciate the ease of using this one and i highly reccomend this can opener to all! and i figured out how to use it in less than 10 seconds.

This electric can opener looks sleek and nice on the shelf and works well. It goes all the way around the top so that the lid is completely separated from the can, then holds the can in place until you release the lever and remove the can yourself.

The reason I did not give it 5 stars is that sometimes it is a little tricky attaching the can initially to the opener. My husband still has a problem with that from time to time. Please note that, like all electric openers I’ve ever seen, you are left with a lid which has a sharp edge, unlike some of the newer designs which cut into the side of the can and leave an edge which will not cut into your skin.

We’ve been using those hand held openers for awhile now, and it is really nice to get back to removing lids so easily and quickly. And — the price was reasonable. A good buy!.

I purchase this can opener at the local store, for the same price listed here, after reading reviews on here. It came completely assembled and ready to use. It comes with the magnet pushed down for shipping and can be pushed down when storing to save space and to keep it safer.

The cutting assembly is easily removed for cleaning; I took it off just to check how easy it would come off and go back on. Super easy. I opened the first can and it worked great and is much quieter than the one it is replacing.

I admit the can I opened was in perfect shape with no dents so I will see what happens if I get a dented can. So far I really love how easy this is to place the can, press down and let it go. It didn’t take a lot of pressure to push down to puncture the can so I think it would be good for people with issues of weakness in their hands and wrists.

I am not able to use a manual can opener due to weakness in my wrists.

works awesome, came with a bunch of cupons. i have a immune disorder that messes with my nerves, and i use this for catfood cans with no pull tab. It’s easier than another hand held opener i got previously.

There are no sharp edges on the cans, so i can put the lid back on and store it in my fridge safely. Worth it.

If it wasn’t for this thing I would have cuts all over my hands. There is no telling how many countless times I have had to use this thing. I use canned vegetables and canned chicken on a regular basis so this thing is worth the 10.

I do not use my electric can opener a lot. I only use it on bigger cans because they do not have the pull top that regular cans have now. When I do use it it works just fine and I have no issues with it cutting off the top of the tin cans.

It’s a good kitchen appliance just not one I use very often.

Once I get it engaged with the top of the can, it works very well, but I have only done it three times (I don’t have that many cans to open so far). Maybe I will get the hang of it, the more cans I try.

We wanted to replace our spacesaver can opener and this replaced it perfectly. Looked brand new.

I have had this model of can opener for more than 20 years! I replaced it because it was yellowed in appearance. I was pleasantly surprised to see this model was still available. Excellent can opener, great design.

The can opener arrived safely, was as advertised and easy to install. I love it!

Doesn’t work properly. Motor runs but is noisy and cans fall off the opener after partial or no opening. Suspect device is just worn out.

My daughter gave me one of these when she was 9 or 10 years old. She is 35 now and it just broke. I looked everywhere for a replacement. I was so happy to find this one at a reasonable price. It shipped so fast and installed very easily.

It is a little different than the one I had as B&D had some upgrades added and I really love it.

Waiting for son to install it since the mount is different from my twenty year old similar one, which has bit the dust. Cant really rate until then. Looks great. Shipped fast.

I have needed a decent can opener for a while; My electrics wouldn’t stay attached to the can and my handhelds had sharp edges on the drive key that was causing blisters on my fingers. So when I saw that this model was on sale I jumped.

The Securimax opens cans by slicing through the edge of the can’s lid – this allows you to remove the cap and push if back on, though the re-attached cover isn’t leak prof – it is fairly tightly in place.

In operation you simply place the opener across the top of the can, passing the raised edge of the can’ between a drive wheel and a metal slicer. As you turn the handle the can rotates and once the tension on the handle drops to low you can remove the opener and lift off the cap!!! I liked it enough that I bought 2 as gifts.

If I had a complaint it is that elements of this opener, the handles in particular are made out of plastic which I wonder if they might not get brittle after a lot of use. Given the price, it wouldn’t matter if they did.

Since I was a kid I have always hated opening cans. This is the smoothest opener i have ever used. There has been zero strain when trying to use it. It cuts the can so well that you will think it did not open it.

Leaves no sharp edges it is the best can opener ever. It was on clearance so we were just hoping it might be better than the basic hand crank one we had or the stupid one touch openers that work for a month then go stupid.

You will not be disappointed. This should only be this one sold every where you do not need any other options.

Best type of can opener made. Both the lid and the can edges are safe to handle, no sharp edges. Can be a bit tricky to use at first but once you get the hang of it you’ll never use another style of can opener again.

It only takes one pass around the can to split the lid seam. You’ll know when you make it full circle because it’ll get easier to turn the knob. Releasing the cutting mechanism is usually accomplished by turning the knob counter-clockwise.

If it’s still being stubborn, try rocking the knob. The lid grabber is essential for grabbing the edge of that freshly cut can lid.

It does exactly what it is supposed to do With arthritis it is a great help in the kitchen. It also comes with a jar opener which is also very helpful

This opener has worked well on all the cans I’ve tried since I bought it including tiny tomato paste cans. I cannot recommend this product because of the dangerously sharp can edges it leaves. Pros: Effortless opening.

Takes just 2 AA batteries and it is easy to remove the battery cover. Cuts in only one pass every time–it is very sharp and cuts deeply just below the top rim of the can. The opener has a magnet that lifts the lid when you remove the opener.

Has a panel that snaps off so you can clean the blade–I had not found it necessary to clean the blade after a month of use. Does not make curls of metal. Cons: The blade is very sharp! It has a larger blade than most openers of its type so you should handle it by the top.

It is easy to accidentally press the button and the manufacturer recommends that you remove the batteries to clean it for that reason. I stored mine in a drawer so as not to accidentally start it. You must press the button a 2nd time to stop the opener–you hear a snap when it completes one revolution of the can.

It leaves a razor sharp edge on the can. A moment of inattention left me with a deep cut and two stitches. I had thought it would be a good opener for an adult household, but I revised my review after cutting myself.

Con for this model is that it doesn’t automatical turn off when the cycle is finished. Pros: I’ve had other “One-Touch” models that did turn off automatically but prefer this as when the battery stops working you can replace it with the tin still attached.

The amount of time I spent ripping into tins with various cutting tools and pliers, spilling juices/sauces/oils, etc. when I had my previous version led me to buy this model. I’m happy with this one but the “One Touch” name continues to mean nothing: The previous model I had would absolutely never start without several “touches” of the button, driving me nuts, and this one has to be “touched” at least twice to turn on & off.

The best can opener I EVER SEEN was one in my home as a kid with the Sears brand. It closed the cutting wheel on the can with the first operation of the crank, and opened the action by rotating the crank backwards when finished.

But that great machine has been out of production for many, many years. Barring that glorious Sears model, this Swing-A-Way is the best can opener currently made, You have to operate the open and close with a dedicated lever, but that’s a nit really.

Once locked and loaded, you open the can as fast as you can rotate the crank a few times. This is no much better than a hand model, it’s hard to imagine without experiencing the splendor first hand. Seriously.

I was very excited to find this product and it worked well for several months. It has apparently worn out after less than a year of light use. It will open part of a can, then the mechanism fails to hold the cane under the blade and the blade fails to cut the can lid.

It came with a lifetime warranty, but because of the low cost of the item, I’ve decided it isn’t worth the time and expense of packing and sending it back for replacement, only to receive a new one that would likely wear out and require replacement within a year.

Love this can opener. Brings back memories, as this is the same can opener my family used when i was growing up. Electric ones have always let me down, even the ones that are safety ones. Only problem was the 4 mounting screws were missing, but 4 wood screws are easy enough to get.

I’m very impressed with my Zyliss Lock N’ Lift Can opener. I Love that it has the magnet lid lifter. It’s one of the best features on it. The locking feature is also the best. It simply locks on and is so easy to turn, anyone could open it.

It then magnets to the lid and bang it it unlocks and it opens. It’s easy so simple and great. It really beats the old can openers. We prefer this over the electric cam openers. The easy to hold handles also make it nice, they are comfortable and easy to grab onto.

We love it and have recommended it to friends and family.

I have a Zyliss Lock’N’Lift can opener and while this LOOKS like the one I have, this is a terrible knock-off of the one I have. The one I have works. These just plain don’t work. They don’t hook on the can, they don’t cut through the metal top and they don’t open the can.

I bought 2, because they were inexpensive and I love the one I own. These ARE NOT THAT. To make matters worse, LTD will NOT refund the postage I used to buy these. After looking at the reviews, I KNOW they know they are sending junk, but still refuse to refund the whole price.

I will never buy from LTD again!.

This was an updated replacement countertop can opener for a much older Cuisinart model which we had gotten many years of excellent use from. I opted to purchase from Cuisinart/Conair as their pricing was better than Amazon.

I do, however, regret the decision somewhat since I would have been more satisfied with the stainless model which Cuisinart did not offer but Amazon did. That being said, the white model which I am now using seems to be more cheaply made than our older model: lighter in weight so not as sturdy seeming.

The blade is quite sharp as one would expect of an new model, so cans open easily. This was the problem with our older model, the blade unit failed. I will be keeping this new can opener as I consider the environment and waste disposal with every purchase I make, however, I will continue to regret not purchasing the stainless model!! A plus for Cuisinart/Conair is that I was able to return the two blade units to them that I had originally ordered when trying to initially solve the problem by replacing them.

Hopefully they’ll be resold and or recycled! Every action that we take must take into account its impact on the environment!.

When I moved here to this apartment I didn’t have a can opener. I had used an electric one mounted under an upper kitchen cabinet for years and years but I couldn’t take it with me. I wound up buying a cheap $5 handheld one at the grocery store which worked for like 2 years before literally falling apart.

I had had enough of the hand can opener and went with a countertop electric one. I snagged the Cuisinart CCO-50B on Amazon for like $15. I didn’t need anything fancy. I just wanted something that could stand up to opening 3 or 4 28-ounce cans of peeled tomatoes in one go.

And that is what this thing does. I use this Cuisinart Can Opener for crushed and whole peeled tomatoes, tuna, cat food, tomato paste, store-bought broth/stock, beans, etc. I’ve had it for about a year and haven’t had any issue with it.

If it self-destructed tomorrow I’d be okay with that and feel like I got my $15 worth out of it. I’d even buy it again.

Well made and easy to use. When I make my Spaghetti sauce, I use about 8 cans total of crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, tomato paste. In the past I have had electric can openers. They were more work as they wouldn’t work right.

Have to stop and readjust the can. It would only open a portion of the can. I ended up pulling out the old hand can opener to complete the job. I threw out the electric opener, and only used the manual one.

Years later, I’m older and doing it by hand is getting harder. I actually found this Cuisinart can opener at my grocery store at a $25 price point. I already had a Cuisinart hand blender which I found to be of good quality.

After using the opener, I found it so easy to insert the can, holds the can steady and easily opens can and magnetic tip hold the lid. I liked this opener so much, that I purchased another for my vacation home.

Really like the fact that this opener cuts off the whole top with a clean, non-burred edge so that you can scrape out the whole contents of the tin without fear of cuts or damage to spatula edges. It works well, spinning it’s way around the lid automatically but does require to be stopped in order for it to release the removed lid as it shuts down.

With so many ring pull tins appearing from premium priced tinned food providers, this little device allows you to buy quality low cost supermarket tinned products without fear of getting sore hands when it comes to trying to use them for home cooking.

It’s also small enough to fit in the drawer where my old rusty uneliable steel plate tin opener was before I threw it out.

Nice and small, goes into a kitchen drawer easily. Handles most cans easily, fits nicely into the hand and is lightweight. Works well, however turning it off once the can is open is tricky until you get used to it.

I like the feel of the rubberised unit. Battery replacement is easy, and batteries last quite a long time. In all a good product, my wife has arthritis in her hands and this has helped a lot and much better than the mains unit used previously.

It’s fiddly – You have to place on the tin very specifically and once you’ve got the knack, it’s useful. However, the 2 downsides is it cuts the tin in a way that the lid & can are left extremely sharp so you have to be careful when handling and removing the lid from the contraption.

It then also requires frequent battery replacement, so it becomes a rather expensive convenience. It’s more compact than a free standing, counter top tin opener, though.

My mum recommended this tin opener to me. She has had hers for around 20 years and it’s still going. I wasn’t disappointed. Excellent hand tin opener. I have spent more than the price of this one on multiple cheaper ones that have all gone in the bin.

This can opener is the best i have ever used and seems well made. however having had one before for approximately two years they fail at the hinge point which is made of plastic. Presumably this degrades over time.

Had this brand before for 20 yrs. Before it struggled to cut properly. Bought a cheaper but recommended one off this site. That went in the bin. Back to the Zyliss PERFECTION locks onto tin, cuts easily, well made, should last as long as the old one.

This smooth touch electric can opener is just that – smooth to use. Tall enough for all cans. Looks smart on the counter. Leaves NO sharp edges at all. I always thought that if the lid came off with no sharp edges, then the can itself would have a sharp edge all around the top.

Wrong! Somehow this can opener manages to cut the top off and leave a smooth, non-sharp lid which is harmless to anyone, and also a smooth, rolled top all around the can – I now feel comfortable leaving an opened can in the ‘fridge with lid on and no worries that someone else will cut themselves if they pick it up.

My biggest sense of comfort comes from the fact that NO ANIMALS will ever cut themselves if they forage in recycling bins – mine or the destination of my cans once picked up by the Blue Bin folk. I always consider this whenever I discard anything, even cutting plastic bags up so no little creature gets stuck inside.

Now I know my washed cans will cause no harm to anyone or anything – great.

I have had this can opener for about a year. It’s a nice design and at first I really liked it. I love the way it secures the can when you mash the top. All the others are such a hassle trying to get the can aligned so it will work.

I dislike having to hold the top down for it to actually cut open the can. The main issue with this model can opener for me is that about 99% of the time, it cuts the can where the glue is and you have to take the time to remove the glue from the top of the can before using the contents.

Another big issue is there are metal strips along the outside top of the can especially where the final cut is. Who wants metal being in their food causing a potential health hazard. This can opener definitely has flaws and Hamilton Beach should find a way to remedy them.

It would be worth it’s weight in gold if those problems didn’t exist. As for me, I am tired of having to make sure glue and metal aren’t going in my food. Time to find another can opener.

I got this and opened one can. It cut great, fast, quiet. But since this opener cuts on the sides of cans, rather than into the top, the top lid that is cut is the exact same circumference as the can.

So be mindful for those who like to drain excess liquid contents packed inside of cans like in tuna, canned veggies, or anything with excess packing liquid you don’t want. You cannot effectively drain fully or rinse well with cans opened with side openers.

I am one who likes to use the cut lid inside the can as a strainer or plunger to drain, then rinse and drain again in the sink. I hated to return it after one use and get a traditional opener. Not because of quality, but my own ignorance.

It never occurred to me about side openers and boy did I feel dumb. So just a heads up to those before buying side openers who may be looking for a new opener. If you ok with them, this one seemed good and came highly rated.

I gave it a 4 because nothing’s perfect.

We’ve had extremely good luck with Cuisinart in the past. So much so that most of our kitchen bling is Cuisinart. So when we all finally got tired enough of the cheap $7 wally world can opener we had, we looked to the Cuisinart one to replace it.

Their can openers are apparently not a specialty of theirs, as is the case with their coffeemaker/keurig combo unit which we’ve had for years and adore. Pros: Vastly superior to the cheap Wally World ones, much easier to find the “bite spot” to get the can started.

Unit is prettier, sturdier, more substantial. Cons: Most times have to push the can a bit to the left to get it to rotate the can. So the unit certainly works, but is not perfect. It particularly has trouble with the bigger cans like the 28oz size.

Purchased this unit a month ago and still have not received the charcoal filter and cover that I believe is part of the compactor. I called Whirlpool and spoke with both the “Customer service “ department and the “Parts “ department, was on the phone with them for over 2 hours.

No one at Whirlpool was able to answer my question. The dealer I purchased it from is still trying to get information from his Whirlpool representative, so far no luck. I can’t believe there is no one that can answer the question.

The charcoal filter seems to me like a pretty basic item, kind of like the bag that the compactor uses. I believe that a product is only as good as the support system it has, so far I am not impressed.

I am thinking I may have to settle for a “Stick Up “ air freshener.

It’s a compactor. It does the job, but it doesn’t have the lock down feature. So you push the button, it goes down and then right back up. Our old compactor had a lock down feature which helps keep the trash packed down so much better.

We find we need to change the bag more often with this new much more expensive compactor. Seems like such a simple feature that every compactor would have. Disappointed.

I have owned the compactor for a couple of months and it is now making a loud noise when we compact the trash. We owned our last compactor for 15 years and never had a running issue. We just wanted to update the unit.

That was a BIG mistake. I have an order in for service and it will take 3 weeks for service. I would not recommend the Whirlpool Trash Compactor.
