20 Best Two Person Fishing Kayak (2023 Updated)

I’m giving Brooklyn Kayak 5 stars based on the following: The kayak came wrapped really nice with a protective covering. The pedals were boxed, encased in dual side foam, and taped to the kayak very securely.

The peddles and seats sit inside the Kayak so they are basically protected from damage. The Kayak overall is very nice, solid, and seems heavy duty. I have not had a chance to use it on the water yet, and I am currently in the process of assembling the pedals.

I will however test the kayak this weekend on the water. Myself and my wife both got one delivered at the same time. If I can edit this review I will come back and give an update after I take it on the water Saturday.

I also took pictures but I don’t see anywhere on this review where I can upload them to the site. Visually, overall I am very pleased. Nothing appears to be damaged as it was well packaged, but again I will test it out on the water this weekend.

Very spacious and an affordable buy. The price of the Hobie made me buy this one after some research lol Glad I did. $5,000+ was a little steep compared to the price of Brooklyn Kayak.

This is a great kayak. I have a service dog who goes everywhere with me, I am a Disabled Vet. My dog was right at home on the kayak, we have plenty of room. The peddle drive is nice and easy to peddle.

Rod holders, storage and accessory mounts are all very well thought out and great to have. Customer Service is very responsive. We worked thru a shipping issue and BKC made it right. Thumbs up for Customer Service too.

Others say the weight is an issue. Ok, when out of the water, it is a bit heavier than smaller kayaks. But in the water that same weight makes this kayak very stable, easy to stand & cast and my service dog does (83lbs) does not tip the kayak when he moves around.

So if you realize you are buying a ocean capable, fishing kayak, the weight is one of the assets of this kayak. Plan to use a cart when moving on land if needed and you will be good. You will really like the few extra pounds when on the water.

I believe I could even throw a small cast while standing in this kayak. The seats are comfortable and well made. My cooler even has a place to be stored behind my seat. Two thumbs up for this kayak. As for cons… only one I could think of was no oar holders.

It is a peddle kayak. But there are plenty of oar holders available that will work for this kayak and the four accessory plates make it easy to add what works best for you.

I have had my Kayak for 2 Months now and have rode (Kayaked?) over 120 miles. First I will say one of the pedals had a manufacturing defect when I got it. I emailed the company and got a response with 24 hours and repair parts were sent right after.

Unfortunately the repair parts did not fix the problem. I contacted the company again and within 24 hours (actually I think it was about 3 hours later) said they would send another pedal kit. They did and it works perfectly! I don’t have a problem if there is a manufacturing defect that happens.

We just retired and built a house on the lake with new appliances. Believe me there are always manufacturing defects. Here is how I judge a company, what do you do? Brooklyn Kayak Company made it right without giving me a hard time.

I wish I could say the same thing about Whirlpool, but that is another review. First, I love my Kayak! We live off a lake and I ride it nearly every day. Perfect around the lake. I have a bone spur in my foot and finding an exercise that doesn’t aggravate this is very difficult.

Peddling around the lake has been a great exercise for me. I travel by myself about 3 miles an hour. Some people have asked if you can go by yourself in a two person Kayak. The answer is yes, generally I go by myself and occasionally my wife joins me.

Very stable you can stand in it without tipping. I highly recommend this Kayak and the company.

Just received via shipping. Can’t wait to try it out. I have owned several kayaks so I was looking for one with specifics I wanted and this one had most. First is sit on top. sit in boats are hard to get out of gracefully, especially for an old big guy! But I’ve watched young and fit adults struggle as well.

Lol The multi foot rest positions are another personal preference. I have owned kayaks with adjustable foot rest. they are not easy to adjust from a seated position and you tend to adjust your feet often on a decent trip.

I really wanted the side mounted adjustable rod holder also and this is the only boat I found designed this way. If you like slow trolling fishing then a center mount rod holder makes it difficult to do.

Plus you usually have to lean forward a bit to reach the rod with a center mount. The side mount is an easy reach for a quick set. I’ll be pushing the weight limit at 275 but sit on tops won’t swamp or sink.

The width of the hull looks much wider than any of my previous boats so that will only improve stability quite a bit! Eager to dirty it up with some fish scales and slime!.

So I’m writing this because I didn’t see any other reviews for bigger people. I’m right at 275, and I was hesitant about getting this kayak. I researched and researched and could not find anything about being right at the weight limit and how it would how up (or if it would).

Well I bought in anyways as a new set goal to lose some weight and I’m glad I did! I also purchased the ozark rubber scupper plugs because I thought this might would help more but I didn’t really need them! I glided across the water with ease with still enough room for my light fishing gear to be added and whatever else I might would want to add.

The paddle definitely needs a drip blocker but other than that I’m completely happy about this product! It’s light enough to grab the hand rail and carry down to the water (about 50lbs). I say in the seat for a good 2 hours with no back issues but I could see why some fishermen might would want to add the higher stadium seats for fishing.

I would definitely recommend to anyone!.

I purchased this boat online due to nothing being available locally that peaked my interest, and people wanting retail for used boats that have been beat to death or drug across a parking lot. So far, I’m fairly happy with it.

Arrived 2 days early. Spent a hour going over it looking for any damage and found none. For the price. Can’t beat it. Took it out 2 days later for my first trip with it and spent about 6 hours on the water with it feeling it out and testing various things.

Good – Good initial stability, and even when heeled it doesn’t feel like it wants to flip. – Going downwind, or across the wind it tracks fairly well and as long as you’re aware of your stroke (one side is always stronger or deeper than the other) it doesn’t yaw back and forth too much once you’re moving.

– Was stable enough that I felt comfortable enough to fight with a mangrove tree to get my spook back when I botched a cast and put it into the tree. – Flush mount rod holders are kind of shallow, BUT that kept my reels away from the water, which is never a bad thing when it comes to salt water.

– Seat is fairly comfortable if you sit facing forward at all times. – As long as you’re not going directly into the wind it moves through the water fairly easily. Even with a shoulder injury I had no issues fishing for hours on it.

Not so good – Weight capacity. 300 lb capacity is probably a swamped boat weight. At 5’11” and 240lbs with 3 rods, a backpack with a few Plano boxes, soft cooler with half a dozen bottles of water, and a net.

The water was almost all the way up the scupper holes to the deck. – The seat. one of my rear tube plugs is missing so the water that collects under the seat for the rear scuppers was actually filling the seat tube.

I’m sure a replacement plug will fix that issue. – Under seat tackle tray. Great idea. not so great in execution. The seat is so low to the deck that you can put a tray in there, and bungie it down, but I could not get it out without getting out of the boat and fighting it out from under the seat.

– The rear of the seat is lower than the front which puts you in a reclined position. Great for relaxing, but not so great for covering distance, paddling into the wind, or fighting fish. Also if you want to sit sideways and drift the rear of the seat being lower puts pressure on the back of your legs and is really not comfortable at all.

Also if you fish like this (great way to drift a flat) the holes drilled for the paddle holder bungee will allow water into the hull. – Does not like to go directly into the wind. While paddling back to the launch staying on course was a challenge.

– When going into the wind or paddling hard to cover distance hull slap is a very real thing if that matters to you in your fishing style. – slightest body movement will spin the boat. All in all, can’t complain about my purchase.

Wow what a fishing kayak ! Ego fishing hooked me up good. Received in mint condition. Ego kept me updated on progress every step of the way. It’s winter here in Maryland so I can’t try it yet but can’t wait.

Studied long before buying and I believe I got one of the best unlimited kayaks on the water. Ego has excellent reviews so I decided to go w them. Pro’s. Great prices and professionals W anything to do w the water.

Fantastic kayak. Very customizable but basic in design. Great grab and go vessel. Decent primary stability but great secondary stability. Easy to stand and site fish even going through smaller rapids on a fairly quick moving river.

Was a bit turned off by the lack of dry storage originally, but found that once i was on the water it was perfect for me. Dont have to manuver to secure items in a hatch. Can just use a dry bag and have PLENTY of deck space for it to sit and remain out of the way.

Boats scupper holes and the channels comnecting them do a great job at keeping the deck dry. Plenty of room for coolers and gear as the seat is trimmable. Even room for a child if you choose to bring them.

For me, GREAT kayak and was not disappointed once i got her out. Added the 360 seat to it and made every part of it more awesome. Easy to turn and access gear, fish banks without turning th vessel, and helps getting in and out easier.

Overall I am very happy with this purchase. I spent a lot of time making my decision, however didn’t want to spend a lot in case we didn’t really enjoy this new activity. So this purchase was a balance between being above the cheaper entry level kayaks and not going with the best available.

I am very please with the Kayak, however based on watching online video reviews, I did upgrade from kit included accessories with Winnerwell Paddles and Padded EVA Foam Kayak Seats to improve the ease and quality of our kayaking experience.

The air pump system works great both for inflation and deflation (best way to pack it up tight), the air pressure gauge is great to have, the footrests work well and having both short and long skegs is also great option.

I am not a fishing person, so not using the fishing attachments but I don’t feel like I have paid unnecessarily for things not used. The other good option is that this 2 person kayak has an alternative specific set up if only one person is going out alone.

I am a wheelchair-bound amputee who has recently gotten into kayaking, but after purchasing a traditional sit-on kayak to go out with friends I realized I would never be able to go kayaking solo-style, due to that yak’s 12′ length and weight of around 85 pounds.

So, with no other options for solo-day trips and wanting to be more active, I decided to buy a second inflatable kayak that I could take out on my own, without any assistance. After much research, I decided the Intex Excursion Pro was the perfect ‘yak in my price range and ended up purchasing an open box from Ebay/Spreetail.

While I understood my buy was of an open box return and did not expect the kayak to be perfect, I was disappointed to find that the bottom/floor inflation section along with one of the two inflatable seats would not hold air for more than an hour.

I am sure it is going to be an easy fix and since everything else was in perfect, new/unused condition, so I won’t be trying to exchange it; but I still have not gotten a chance to truly enjoy that kayak, until I can make the needed repairs.

I know boats ,. I’m an outdoor guide. By the time you can make your warranty claim the warranty will have expired. I was on hold for hours. It was extremely frustrating. The forms you need to fill out to make a claim were very difficult.

It took well over a month for them to respond to me. This is a sure fire way for a business to get around the warranty situation. I am sure that this was on purpose. To avoid having to repair my kayak or replace it.

Two weeks after getting the excursion pro kayak I develop seam leaks in the bottom tubes. Seam leaks are very difficult to patch. At the same time, I developed seam leaks in all three seating sections.

this was not due to over inflation!To say it ruined our Covid altered summer is an understatement. We don’t have a lot of money and placed faith in this company. A major disappointment. They are making a lot of money and delivering a poorly made inferior product.

And by now, they know it!Not incidentally , don’t believe those short reviews that are glowingly positive.

Today, 02/07/21, my son and I took them on their maiden voyage. My goal was to get acclimated to everything as I consider us beginners. I also took a fishing pole with me to see what it was like to cast.

I took these on Castaic Lake Lagoon here in California. We decided for the most part to hug the shoreline in case we flipped and had any issues getting back on, keeping the shallow shoreline close. The lagoon has about 3 miles of shoreline and we had no problem covering that in our day trip (4 hours).

The only reason I didn’t give this 5 stars is the seat. It does get a bit uncomfortable after 2-3 hours. Most people upgrade this seat and I’m looking to do the same. The kayaks seem durable and we plan to have many more trips as the weather is beginning to warm up.

I will also be purchasing anchors soon as the kayaks drift very easily especially on this windy lake. I’ll take it slow for any other modifications I’ve seen on the internet. Overall this was a great purchase for my family as it will be a form of rest and relaxation we’ll be doing often.

I bought this Kayak about 9 years ago and although I haven’t used it for a few years, it doesn’t disappoint. Very sturdy and great for small lakes. Have used it fishing, since that’s what it is intended for, but mostly just for cruising and enjoying the scenery.

It is a bit heavier kayak, but that’s what also makes it more sturdy. Easily holds someone who is 225lbs with no problems at all. Customer service has been great. I lost one of the hatch covers and looked for a replacement online, but couldn’t find one that size.

Contacted Lifetime and they are able to ship one out to me. super easy and quick. Even after being in outside storage for 3 years, a little bit of cleaning and it’s as good as new. Can’t wait to get it back in the water.

I bought this when the water was still ice so I had to wait to try it out. Today was the first day. Went out for a solo fishing trip. The kayak inflates quickly with little effort thanks to the two way pump.

Every push and pull inflates it. Not too heavy. I was able to pick it up with my equipment inside and drop in the water. I didn’t want to drag it and possibly puncture the bottom. On the lake it felt very sturdy.

I was able to get on my knees and turn around to retrieve something from the back without tipping over. It held its air perfect while I was in the water, I was out for 3 hours with no issues. The water was a bit choppy but I was still able to paddle the boat effortlessly against the waves.

I bought a 5 lb anchor and it held the boat still while I fished. The only issues I had with the it is i find the seat slightly uncomfortable because it has no support so if I lean back the seat just bends back with me.

I also was not a fan of the rod holder placements. I think the maybe could’ve added some more for convenience. One other complaint would be that the pump hose seems low quality and I am concerned that will easily break.

Packing it back up was easy. The pump also deflates the boat helping to get all the air out. It rolled up perfectly and fits back in the bag, unlike other products that never fit back in the bag once you take them out.

A bystander even commented on how slick the boat packed back up. I haven’t used it tandem yet but I think it’ll be ok for 2 people. Happy with my purchase. No buyers regret.

So far so good on my Kayak. The logo sticker on mine came a little damaged. When I contacted BKC they sent me a kayak cart for my troubles. The only issue I have with it is that the dry storage compartment let in some water today.

I used it in some wavy and windy conditions and the kayak got some water in it. When my wife opened her dry storage compartment her items were wet. I’ll have to research some more and see if this issue continues.

Other than that. The seats are comfortable. I would prefer it if the rod holders had slots next to both seats. I do like the bungee cord storage in the back. Overall it’s a good kayak, not great.

Took it out for a week on its maiden voyage to an alpine lake. Was impressed how well it tracked and handled the wind chop. With the seat in kickstand I was surprised how easily I could cast flies. Of course it’s plenty stable to stand and cast in calmer water.

Really enjoyed fishing, maneuverability and the comfort of this yak for 5 straight days. Just beached it every night. It’s heavy though and got cradles and Malone Microsport trailer which make a world of difference in loading from a ramp.

Looking forward to fall salmon fishing next month.

Great experience overall, the Kayak came in basically perfect condition (there’s one very small nick, near one of the rails which is relatively unnoticeable). Shipping was easy as well, PaddleVA set up freight with Old Dominion (OD), they gave me a call to schedule a drop of time and was seamless.

Even the driver was very pleasant and gave me a hand with unloading it to my drive-way. The kayak came wrapped like a tank, (the driver actually made a comment how he was even surprised by how well wrapped and protected the kayak was.

Overall a 6/5 experience (caught a nice pickerel on it’s maiden voyage as well).

This is the 3rd Hobie and 5th kayak overall that I have purchased from Appomattox River Company. They provide outstanding customer service. The Hobie Outback is performing as expected. It is an excellent fishing platform and an overall great boat.

I have two kayaks, the feel free lure2 with overdrive, and a perception outlaw 11. 5. The first thing you notice is the weight difference. The lure is not that much longer but weighs significantly more.

It’s a beast. Easier to move when using the C tug, but very hard without. The perception is just plain light in comparison. The pedal drive is great, really would have a hard time without us as I bought this for my special needs adult son and I.

Would not be able to paddle far, so the pedal drive is nice. From what I read, after break in, it will get better yet. The only drawback is, I wish the seat went back a little further so my legs could extend fully when pedaling.

I’m 5’ 10” and it’s a little cramped. As far as stability, both of my kayaks are super stable, can easily stand in both, I like the feel free a little better n this regard as from the rear seat position , when you stand, you are in the middle of the kayak.

With the perception you are more on front, so you have to get your balance a little slower. Transporting is very easy with both, as they both fit in the back of the truck together with no issues. One con about the pedal drive for me is, I like to be able to use the carry case to transport it.

I don’t get to use the yak as much as I would like so keeping it stored in the case is nice. However, you have to use a rubber mallet to get the pedal arms off the system every time, which is a big hassle.

Im fearful of possibly damaging it, but it doesn’t make sense to keep it somewhere out is the case when I’m not using it. My yaks hang flat on my garage wall so I can’t keep the pedal drive on it. Hope this review helps.

For its intended purpose with my son, I would recommend it.

They thought of just about everything with this kayak. I knocked off one star for some subtle things that could be improved upon. 1, the rudder. It works beautifully, but when you’re wheeling the kayak around, it’s difficult to keep the rudder housing from dragging the ground (even when rudder is in upright position).

2, there was a small amount of assembly required, and the instructions were difficult to find (YouTube is your best bet here). Even if they just included a little piece of paper that had a QR code linking to youtube instructions, that would be fine.

But it was kind of a shot in the dark otherwise. As far as the kayak goes, though, it’s smooth, incredibly stable, comfortable, and rugged. This thing is a fishing machine. And delivery wise, I couldn’t be happier.

The 5th star is just those small design and experience details.

Finally received my kayak after 2 months! The shipping company is terrible; no way to track in real time and do not answer email or phone. That said, I tried out the Lure 11. 5 this weekend. It’s a beast to carry.

The website says 85 pounds without seat and overdrive. Unfortunately the seat is not easily removed. The seat is really awesome, although I could not easily master moving it front to back. The kayak is very stable.

I fished standing up and with the seat raised. The pedal system works great but requires strong legs. The rudder mechanism is very easy to use, and locks in an up position easily when on land. One little convenience item is that it lacks a cup holder, but I think you can add one to the rails.

Overall, I’m really happy with my purchase and can’t wait to be on the water catching fish.

Could not find an outback near me. they had this in stock. Purchased in mid April. Great shipping through Old Dominion. Kayak was perfect. Highly recommend this company. I had a 2017 Outback and it’s obvious Hobie is stepping up their game.

I love the retractable transducer plate. it’s nice to pull it up and protect it as I’m coming in. They added storage space along both gunwales in the cockpit. and a place for grippers, bait knives, etc.

Previously I had to install tracks but this comes standard now. Mirage 180 drive is smooth as butter and I like that it now has the kick up fins if I run into something. Highly recommend this great kayak.

Maiden voyage in the 2020 outback today. Wind blowing 15-20 mph with gusts to 30 mph and the outback handled it like a dream. There’s nothing negative to say about this yak. It tracks great, it turns great, it rides great, storage is great, controls are great, etc.

Coming from another pedal yak (which was very nice) to this one is night and day. The outback surpassed all my expectations. If you have a chance to test one, take it. If you have the opportunity to buy one, don’t hesitate.

The big price tag is worth it.

I absolutely love my new F10. Received it with just a few minor scratches. When I first sat in it for the first time, I was upset because I could not leave the doc without tipping it over. It was because the seat was to high and to far back, the whole area behind me filled with water.

So I flipped the seat bracket which dropped the seat about 7 inches, and moved it closer to the middle of the kayaK. It worked great and off I went.

After hours and hours of research online, we settled with the Blackfoot Angler 160. It is absolutely perfect for our needs. The kayak is very stable on the water, super spacious, tracks well, easy to get into and out of and lightweight enough for my husband and I to get it to and from our truck.

The seats are amazing! I think I could paddle this thing for hours and not experience the back pain I’ve had in the past with other kayaks. One recommendation is, because the kayak is pretty wide and with the ability to sit higher off the floor, make sure to buy a longer paddle (250 or even longer).

AirKayaks provided super-duper service. Even though the kayak was listed as “pre-sale”, we still received it in record time. Shipping was quick and everything arrived in perfect condition.

I have had this kayak for a couple years. After owning several kayaks and using many more, this is by far my favorite. I have taken it with me on my sailboat as well as camping using it on the ocean, lakes and rivers.

Set-up and storage using an electric pump (which I highly recommend) is simple, fast and easy. There are no ribs, bladders or covers to mess with, but it is as stiff as a hard-shell boat. On the water it is super stable, tracks well and is quite maneuverable with either one or two people.

While I am always wary of spending big dollars on an on-line purchase, AirKayaks did not disappoint. This is a great product.

I bought my 2015 Revolution 13 secondhand on Craigslist in 2020. Since then, I’ve taken it out offshore dozens of times here in Hawaii to target pelagic fish such as Yellowfin Tuna, Mahimahi, Wahoo, and Sailfish.

I often pedal 6-8 miles round trip and I honestly didn’t even realize it was that far until I GPS tracked my route one day. The Mirage Drive GT is very efficient and makes it easy to move 2. 5-3. 5 MPH at a leisurely pace.

That being said, this kayak does have some shortcomings that need to be addressed. For starters, Hobie please get your act together and make a kayak you advertise as being seaworthy WATERTIGHT. The twist and stow hatches, front hatch, and rudderline ports all let water in.

I have a significant amount of seawater in my hull after every trip, especially if the conditions are choppy and I take waves over the bow and sides. Second, the Revolution 13 has a relatively low weight capacity.

I weigh 200 lbs, my fish bag with ice is another 40 lbs, and my gear is at least 15 lbs. That leaves very little capacity to store fish. Some have told me to just get an Outback because it has a 450 lb weight limit, but that kayak is so much heavier, wider, and slower.

In summary, the Revolution 13 had gotten the job done for me, but in some ways I’ve had success in spite of the design, not because of it. You can’t call a kayak that takes on gallons of water on a 5 hour trip seaworthy.

Especially for the price you pay nowdays to get one brand new. My Ocean Kayak that cost less than 1/3 what a revo13 does won’t take on water even if I roll it in the surf. Not a drop. I’m sure Hobie could do the same if they really tried.

Paid for a new kayak. recieved one that had obviously been used. A bunch of sanding marks. heat fixes. actually dirty, had to wash it with dawn soap to get the oil and dirt off of it. After the first trip and unloading it from the top of the truck, something came loose inside the kayak.

We open it up and pull out a hammer. Yes, a steel headed, wood handled, hammer. Im still speechless weeks later.

Hobie is known for quality and this entry level kayak opens you to the world of their product eco system. They pioneered the fin-type drive that allows you to pedal as shallow as 8 inches of water (I believe) by using short back and forth pedal strokes.

In addition, this style of drive is less likely to tangle in long grass and weeds compared to propeller style drives. Product quality and warranty is hard to beat!.

Old Towne is a top notch brand for kayaks. They are sturdy and have good tracking in the water. My kayak also has nice added features such as padding around the rim so it does not irritate your legs, adjustable foot pads for different heights, adjustable seat to lean back or sit up depending on your comfort and preference.

An excellent investment.

I received my yak today. Just like you said it would be here on the 20th. I was so excited when they called me this morning, couldn’t wait to get off work to pick it up. I picked it up after looking it over for any damages.

None found packed for shipping really great. Got home unpacked it and was amazed at how beautiful it really is in person. Sat in it in the front yard and I love it. Can’t wait to mount everything that was included with this yak and hit the lake Sat or Sun morning.
