20 Best Toner For Dry Skin Dermatologist Recommended (2023 Updated)

I have been using witch hazel since around 2008. My teen sister and I are both acne prone and like this waaay more than the original formula. Doesn’t dry out my combination skin (due to being alcohol-free), helps control excess oil, and has a subtle pleasant fragrance.

One bottle lasts me probably 6 months and I use it almost every day. The only difference I see between Dickinsons witch hazel with rose water and Humphreys version is the $4 price hike for half the product.

The ingredients are almost identical, this one just adds Polysorbate 20 (an emulsifier to help blend the ingredients). Save your money, buy Dickinsons.

I’ve been using this toner for about 4 months now and I don’t see myself ever using a different type of toner. I have a health condition that can really dry out my skin, and when that happens it makes my skin so much more hydrated and I feel so much more comfortable.

During the months where my skin tends to go more to the oily side, I feel like my skin is still very well balanced. The ingredients like glycolic acid, hyaluronic acid, and pycnogenol are amazing. Different parts of this contributes different benefits; Exfoliating, hydrating, anti-inflammatory, reduces redness, prevents UV ray damage and UVB wrinkles, and reduces melasma.

It definitely smells like rose/botanical, but the smell becomes less and less noticeable with time regardless of how you feel about it (I’m personally totally fine with how it smells). I’d personally recommend this toner for people who are trying to prevent aging and are aiming to balance their skin hydration.

Anyone who has more irritated or inflamed skin may also benefit from using this. If your skin is super sensitive, you may want to have another toner on standby, but this has so many soothing agents in it I think you’ll be fine.

Note: My first bottle of this toner was free in exchange for social media posts. Since then, I have bought it twice. I’m almost done with my second bottle, which is why I had to buy the Essentials Radiance Toner again.

I have sensitive skin, but I worked my way up to using this daily. Initially I didn’t apply it over the most sensitive parts of my face, and I immediately rinsed my face after using this toner. This was more of a precaution since I never had a reaction.

Now I use it as part of my evening skincare routine. After cleansing my face (usually with the DERMA E CBD cleanser), I pat it dry, and then I apply this with a reusable cotton pad. I let my skin air dry for about a minute before continuing with my routine.

I love how my skin feels and how it looks. Most acids are too strong for my skin, but I’ve never had an issue with this one.

I love this brand. I have rosacea, and I ran out for about a week and my skin was SUPER dry and sensitive for that whole week. I could not figure out why out of the blue and I realized it was probably because i stopped using this scrub while in the shower.

I went to the store and they didn’t have it. So I used other products I had to maybe help in the mean time and nothing worked. so I ordered on Amazon’s and had to wait a few days for it to arrive. LITERALLY just a few days later of using it again.

my skin felt SO much better. I was honestly surprised I have started using the night lotion of this brand and that helped too but the scrub alone did the job and got rid of the dryness on my face. Also I have to wear a face mask for work for 10 hours and my face (cheeks) are still smooth and hydrated.

I highly recommend this specific product if you have sensitive skin/rosacea.

I absolutely love this toner. It’s not for everyone. If I would have used it before my skin became so oily, it probably would have burned. It does have alcohol in it which I have never actually noticed.

It dries up the oil on my face and takes away any dirt and residue left on my skin after cleansing. Even when I do a very thorough cleansing! I have to order it online – I’ve never seen it in any shop or drugstore I’ve been in.

I will even use it when I’m not wearing makeup and I can feel my face getting oily just to clean my face up. I’ve never had a problem with it aggravating my acne, just the opposite – it HELPS it. I hadn’t been using it for a while and the acne along my chin was out of control, and the pores over my nose and cheeks were always clogged.

Now that I’m back to using it, things have definitely settled down. I liked reading here that people said their dermatologists suggested it. Makes me feel even better about using it. Even the packaging is great.

The pump on the bottle is so unique and thankfully makes it impossible to spill. I can’t imagine spilling all of this and then having to order more and wait for it! It’s such a good product. I really need to order a few of them so I’m never without.

don’t be fooled by the photo like I was. This is the original Merz Pharmaceuticals Aqua Glycolic in the picture, but what I was sent was the new MedDerma formulation. False advertising in my book. I returned the product and advised Pharmapack it should change its marketing pictures.

It’s also a royal pain to return third-party merchandise at a local Walmart. Will never do this again.

Bottle leaking. Whenever, i press the pump to pour the toner, it starts leaking from the sides. I received it yesterday and almost 1/4 th of the toner got wasted because of leakage. I’m sure it’ll get over very soon as there is so much wastage due to poor packaging.

I started using this for the seven skins regimen. I am obsessed with this stuff! It smells so freaking good! So crisp and refreshing, it’s like tea tree without the minty smell. I can’t describe it, but the cleansing balm smells the same as this too.

It’s amazing! The toner/essence is actually pretty hydrating for how dry it is right now. I didn’t have high hopes for the toner, but it’s going to be an addition to my skin care routine. Patting this into your face instead of wiping with a cotton ball actually gives your face a beautiful glow.

Ever since I started patting in my moisturizers, lotions, toners, etc. my skin has been super glowy and hydrated. I’m amazed! I highly recommend this, the cleansing balm, and the oil control lotion. They’re very inexpensive, so even if they don’t transform my face into a perfect one, the smell alone is worth the purchase haha.

I’ve noticed my skin has been a lot less oily than usual since adding these e. l. f. products. My skin is much clearer too! I highly suggest double cleansing and starting off with the e. l. f. cleansing balm because if you don’t like it or if it’s not for you, you didn’t waste a bunch of money like a lot of these cleansing balms going for $40.

For this toner, I don’t know if it would be enough to use as your sole toner, but it’s definitely a good one to use at night or in the morning. Way to go e. l. f. for kicking up the quality of their products and keeping them affordable! I’m definitely going to be trying the facial cleansers next!.

I love this toner. I have never used a toner before, aside from using pure witch hazel which dried out my skin. But this toner is perfect for people with sensitive skin and I would said combination skin.

Some areas of my face get more dry than others but my T zone is oily. It works fantastically. I start with the Holy Hydration Cleanser then apply this toner and follow it up with the fragrance free Holy Hydration cream.

It’s totally changed my skin care routine, that was otherwise barely existent. Highly recommend.

I bought this yesterday to try it, I didn’t stop to read the ingredients and I wish I did. The second ingredient is alcohol! NEVER USE ANY SKINCARE PRODUCT IF ALCOHOL IS IN THE TOP 3 INGREDIENT LIST! (Unless directed by a dermatologist,) Alcohol dries out skin, it sucks out all of the moisture! Doesn’t matter what ingredients are below, the higher on the list, the more potent the ingredient is.

This is my holy grail toning product!! I’ve tried a few other toners, both from The Body Shop and not, and this is the only one that actually positively adjusted the texture and color of my skin! I have naturally dry/combination skin that’s very red and acne-prone.

This is the weirdest skin type and I have to use a combination of mattifying and hydrating products to keep everything balanced. With this Vitamin E Hydrating Toner, however, I don’t need to use as many products anymore.

All I need is my face wash and this toner and I’m good to go! I wash my face twice daily and after each wash, I apply this toner on my hands and pat it on my face and neck. It not only smells amazing, but relieves the redness and breakouts on my skin and keeps it both moisturized and not too oily throughout the day.

I usually use it every night and I have great results in terms of hydration without unwanted effects such as excess oil. I really like the thickness that is not entirely watery and allows me to confidently apply it all over my face and neck.

I really enjoy using this product. It goes on nicely and dries quickly allowing me to continue my Go Pure skin care routine in a timely manner. The smell is great. I love to use it after using the facial hair trimmer.

It’s very cooling and soothing to irritated and tired skin. If there were any cons I would say that the pump tip gets clogged with the product that sits there after you pump. It makes the pump squirt in all directions.

I like this toner because it delivers on its claims and doesn’t dry my skin out. It shrinks my pores and reduces oil for a few hours and clears the junk out of my pores. I see some additional color in it which I’m not a big fan of but it is at the very bottom of the ingredient list so from what I know it isn’t a high amount.

There isn’t added fragrance which I like. It just doesn’t do anything long term or lasting. The results only show for about 24-48 hours. I apply it as you would and essence and with a reusable cotton round and I get the same results.

I like it because it doesn’t sting or leave me feeling dry or cause uncomfortable tightening. I will re-purchase. I think the price for quality and amount are fair, too. If you have combination skin and even mild/ occasional acne like I do this might work for you.

I alternate between this toner and the blue herbal toner. I find this combination has really helped my skin. This toner helps with redness and irritation and calms down inflamed painful pimples. I do switch it up with the herbal toner as I am treating acne usually.

But the two combined is a great combo. Also my dad steals this from me to use after he shaves ? I’ve bought him plenty of after shaves but he still prefers this as he says it’s very cooling and calming after he shaves his face.

I’ve gone through a lot of toners that I didn’t love so my esthetician recommended this one as I have dry skin and live in a city with more pollution. After consistently using it twice a day, I noticed a difference.

This is an excellent toner. I have very sensitive dry/combination skin. I require a toner that removes any remaining cleanser, balances the ph of my skin and helps other skincare products absorb well into the skin without irritating my skin.

This product does all of that perfectly. Unlike a lot of other toners, this product does not remove moisture from my skin or further dry it out. It actually feels nourishing and soothing. I have used this toner for years and I will continue to use it in the future.

I bought this product to use morning and night after cleansing. I did a lot of research before deciding to try this one out, This seemed like a great one to try because it doesn’t contain irritating ingredients and it’s formulated with aloe Vera.

Although it didn’t irritate my skin, which is a huge plus considering how sensitive my skin is, it didn’t seem to benefit it either. It is basically like putting colored water on your face. It smells nice and is slightly “refreshing”.

I love my Neutrogena alcohol free face toner compared to this one because of how clean and refreshing that one is and clean all dirt and makeup impurities.

I have post damage to my earlier acne, stressed past over exposure to the sun. This is a great product for my own skincare needs to address the issues that I have dealt with in the past. I recommend a sunscreen for the day when using this product.

I am also a fan of the alpha grapefruit toner for the day, my evening gentle exfoliation is really wonderful, the vit c in the morning routine with the alpha grapefruit after cleansing with the seaweed soap which has a slight granular exfoliation from the seaweed really leaves my skin incredibly smooth, bright, feeling great, especially when I use a vit c serum or moisturizer, also recommend the buttermilk moisturizer for a bright, moisturized texture The whole line is highly recommended.

The price is great especially for the results that can be achieved.

I’ve been using this toner for about a month now but noticed the difference within just a couple of days. It’s truly amazing and sinks into my skin like a dream. Many other toners I’ve used have either made my skin dull or felt overly drying, leaving my skin feeling tight and parched.

Not this toner. It leaves my skin glowing and feeling soft and supple – there is no tightness or dryness. I’ve started applying it within a few moments after stepping out of the shower and find that it keeps my skin feeling moisturized and prepped until I’m ready to put on my moisturizer.

I absolutely love this toner. I have used 3 other brands before and this one definitely beats all of them. Not long after applying this my skin felt slightly moisturized and softer. To use this I poured it into my palm and then applied it to my face using my fingers on my other hand.

I am sure many people would just use a cotton ball, but I feel it absorbs so much, causing it to go to waste. After this I applied my regular moisturizer. My skin feels very soft and moisturized after this.

I loved the packaging colors, simple yet beautiful looking. It is vegan, cruelty free and carbon neutral, so knowing that is a bonus for me. The ingredient list is impressive but three stand out the most glycerin (makes skin feel soft), Sodium Hyaluronate (naturally occurring and helps restore moisture), and mallow root (antioxidant and calming properties).

5 stars all the way around for this for this toner. Hydrate Moisturizing Toner goes a long way. I used it same time everyday and am happy with the overall look and feel since starting to use this. I have extremely oily skin, I’ve had toners that seemed to add to the problem, but not this one.

I used it as soon as I’m done with my cleanser, on a pure cotton square. A little goes a long way, so not much is needed. It immediately softens my skin, without an oil or greasy finish. My skin easily absorbs it.

There isn’t a harsh feeling after use either, no tightening or dryness. I use morning and night and follow up with a moisturizer. I some ingredients are Mallow Root, Chamomile, Aloe Leaf, Rose Oil and Cucumber also Paraben free.

Great for any type of skin.

To the reviewers that criticize this for not removing makeup, I hope you understand that this is not the intention behind using a toner. This is supposed to soothe skin after makeup removal or washing! I bought this because my typical toner was out of stock.

I am extremely impressed with this product and I’m glad I switched to this from my clarins pore toner. I am 28, healthy and do get regular medspa treatments on my face (b-tox, laser treatments, chem peel).

Being a working mom does leave my face looking stressed out and dull, though, plus I am seeing some fine lines sometimes. Ive used this for 2 weeks and at seeing improved plumpness and fine line reduction in my skin.

I have really dry skin, especially during the winter, and I wanted a toner that could balance out my skin after cleansing (since cleansing can sometimes make my skin feel stripped of moisture and nutrients), while also being actually hydrating and replenishing.

This toner really does the job! When you first apply this toner, it almost feels like you’ve just applied lotion – that’s how hydrating it is. I think that it helps balance out the skin and replenish moisture before I put my actual moisturizer on.

Since this product is kind of pricey for a toner, I use my Neutrogena Toner in the morning (it’s a really great daily toner that isn’t as hydrating but isn’t stripping at all. also, it’s only $8. 50 for 8.

At night, I cleanse my skin with Lancome’s Creme Radiance Gentle Cleansing Creamy-Foam Cleanser (which is a really gentle nighttime cleanser that I recommend to everyone), and then I use this product right after, since it’s important not to let cleanser sit on the skin for too long before applying any sort of moisturizing product! I use my jade roller to help the toner absorb into my skin more, and then I apply Clinique’s Moisture Surge Overnight Mask, which makes my skin nice and hydrated by the morning.

This skincare routine has really helped to improve my dry skin, and I think that a lot of the change has resulted directly from the use of this toner! However, I don’t know if I would recommend this product to people with oily skin.

My friend has oily skin, and when she tried to use this product, she said that it was too hydrating for a toner, and it actually created little bumps along the bottom of her face. It’s thick and silky, smells light and fresh, and I like to apply it to my skin after double cleansing in the shower or an exfoliation treatment. I know the directions say use a cotton pad but that seems wasteful to me.

I prefer to shake it a bit in the bottle, pour a nickel size amount into my palm, and gently press it into my face directly. It’s been great for my dry skin and even though it takes a minute to sink in, it’s great as a prep step with gua sha and before applying my retinols, AHA/BHA, night oil, and moisturizer.

I think it’s helped plump my skin and I wake up looking radiant. Definitely a hefty price tag, but I got it on sale! If you have the means, buy it. I am obsessed!.
