19 Best Thin Set Mortar For Porcelain Tile (2023 Updated)

Versabond LFT is a good professional grade mortar that is convenient for Pros wherever the job is with so many Home Depot locations. I had Home Depot deliver all the materials for this project and it was really convenient.

It would have cost me more to pick up everything myself considering it was about 1,800 lbs with everything else including Wonderboard Cement Backer board.

This probably will become my goto mortar as its not crazy expensive. That being said, it sure feels little different to plain ol’ $8 Type S mortar. No remarkable buttery texture like that found in the VersaBond LFT Crack prevention but thats nearly $40.

The worest choices. Poor quality: poor adhision even to bear and clean concrete, reacts to water (moisture) after drying, turnes to like sand when touched. Total waste of money. I have noticed that HOME DEPOT drifts down and down with quality and selection.

So bad for us to shop any more.

I bought this as an idea to repair a broken ceramic radiant grate for a very old space heater that I have. The heater still works great and the mortar did the trick perfectly!!! I also used some to add a needed spacer ring in the top of a snowman tea candle lamp.

The original globe was broken beyond repair but I found another one that would work but it was just a tiny bit too large at the top. The color and texture of the mortar worked great & took care of that little job, too! Now I still have most of the tube of mortar left – maybe I’ll use it for the mortar to make my own brick fire pit.

So versatile and useful! I am most happy with this product and with Tractor Supply. Tractor Supply is always helpful!!.

I asked ACE for a product to repair fireplace cracks between Lannon stone on my fireplace. The sales clerk said to use this product. had to have a mason come out to remove this product from between Fireplace cracks with a diamond tip.

He had to put new mortar in which he made with sand and cement. The mason said this product is high temperature mortar used for firebrick, the interior of the fireplace. Others have made the same mistake as I did.

Works well. HOWEVER. BE AWARE: this grout contains latex. Everywhere that your sponge touches when wiping grout, will leave behind not “gout haze” as such, but a thin film of plastic- like latex. It will have to be removed with a razor blade.

Not your typical “grout haze” and NOT FUN. I had to loosen it w a steamer, then scrape it off of all the tile with a blade, changing to a new blade frequently.

Red Devil Premix is our preferred grout for repairs and for full bathroom tiling. It is a very smooth mix, easy to work with, dries quickly. There are several premix grout products, and this is by far the best one.

Pre-mixed Tile Grout makes it so much easier to tile a wall and it has a strong bond. There is no mess or fuss and I was able to do a pretty good job I love this stuff. Thanks ProMax Supply .

I have used this for ceramic crafting and also to adhere gems/beads/shells when making bird and fairy houses. If you let dry inside, they hold up nicely outside as well. I also used to repair a few of my own ceramic items that had chips.

It is a soft marshmellow fluff consistency so you need to get used to how much to use. More is less so that when you press the item onto what you need it stuck to, there is not an extra large blob. I controlled it better with a finger tip for smaller spaces.

You can wipe away excess to make it neat before it dries (nice – can re-shape or re-position if needed).

This worked great! It was very easy to use! I did read the product questions/answers and reviews, so I was careful to buy “inverted marking spray paint” and NOT buy the “striping” paint. It is very important that you buy the “marking” paint, as this allows the nozzle to be pushed from the side.

(For the record, I used this inverted marking spray paint “Rust-Oleum 266593 Professional 2X Distance Inverted Marking Spray Paint, 15 oz, White” (although I only got 365-370 linear feet instead of nearly 810 linear feet from this paint.

This item is very small. its not measured in inches. It is the size of a 1/4 of a cup. As pic shows I have small hands. one star because very small light Weight for the money.

I was given a mortar and Pestle set for Christmas years ago just like this one. Love it! It’s just perfect as a small gift, and I included my home-grown dried herbs.

Quality/sturdy, small, & aquarium owners – got this one to crush bigger dry fish food pellets to smaller pieces – perfect! No mess or crumbs everywhere like used to happen doing w back of spoon, etc..

Really good stuff for any grouting repair. I have even used it “off label” for odd job patching because it is really strong and will stick to anything. They also mfr other specialty grouts so you can get the perfect job done.

The tiles in my bathroom sometimes fall off the wall (it’s an old building and the tile adhesive is dying. ). This product makes it easy to stick them back on. It’s nice not to have to buy two products (grout and adhesive) when just doing a small repair.

The product cleans up easily with soap and water. (Although I used it in my bathroom, it’s not suitable for use in wet areas like a shower stall. ).

Perfect for mashing pills when having trouble swallowing. Did not want to use the one I have for spices; scary combination, maybe. This one is very well made and easy to clean. Smooth surface does not “hide” residue.

Not good for soft things that may have any type of moisture, the material of this start to absorb the moisture I try garlic in it and it just absorb all the moisture of it and end up just being very dry you can only see skins of the garlic I was disappointed.

Better off use with dry ingredients only.

Nice little Mortar & Pestle for grinding spices when cooking. The set is not 100% blemish free (I was a chemist for 3 yr) , but the price is fine and any casting blemishes don’t impact its use.

I really loved this tile from the sample but once i retiled my fireplace with it im a little disappointed as it looks very rustic (dirty). Several of the tiles have what looks like smudges of grout on thrm in the design, some also have darker discoloration in the design which is fine if you want a rustic look but thats not what i was hoing for and didnt realize it eould have from the sample i ordered.

I wish the store had a display of them together, but you can only order this online. not sold in store.

This tile looks great in our 120+ year old home- like it might have been the original floor tile. I would say it isn’t for everyone- if you are looking for bright and shiny new looking floor, you may be disappointed with the appearance of this tile- it has some intentional discoloration to give it an aged look.

It cuts beautifully; not a single chip or broken piece for the whole project, so we have several extras. If you usually over-order to account for some breakage, you may need fewer tiles than you think.

Trying to come up with some other place to use these in our house! Maybe the pantry could use a new floor.

Very heavy, high quality tile. I am not sure how easy they will be to cut and install but I love the tile. They will be installed in our master bath. Vintage look as I expected. UPDATE: Our bath has finally been renovated and we love these tiles.

We used white beveled subway tiles on the walls as contrast. We used Polyblend Charcoal grout on the walls and Polyblend Pewter grout on the floor. It’s a small master bath so excuse the photos. The shower glass has also not been installed yet.

Very easy to fit, it took me all of 10 seconds! I didn’t know how accurate this little compass would be given the amount of metal around it, I wasn’t expecting much, but I only wanted a bit of a guide as to the direction.

However, I was pleasantly surprised, while it’s not entirely accurate it is only a few minutes off, so is better than expected and more than adequate for my needs. With the rubber sleeve it doesn’t move and the damping it doesn’t vibrate.

Conclusion. It seems a little expensive, but it works well and is there for worth the money. If you’re looking for a compass, you could do a lot worse.

Why pay more for the pre-mix? Although the product was very good and quality to spread on my project and it definitely did the job. However, I paid for the pre-mix of the glitter in the grout and there was barely any glitter mixed in!!! My project is done now, and maybe I see a few sparkles in a few spots, but there is not nearly enough glitter to justify the extra charge for the pre-mix.

My suggestion to you is if you are going to sell glitter grout, there should be a ton of glitter that is visible once the project is complete! Super disappointed.

I was super excited to receive this. I ordered 2 tubs, 1 came busted open. I took a pic and sent it to the email help desk. The response back was that “I should go ahead and use anyways. ” We use the none busted bucket first and when the grout dried it cracked.

My contracted had to apply and re-apply by finger to fill in the little cracks. When we went to use the busted container noticed that a quarter of contents was missing. I didnt email the company back because I felt like the first request for a fix was ignored.

Luckily my contractor was patient with the gout and We ordered more than what was needed. It could have been very bad trying to dig grout out of tile. I give it a three stars because the sparkles are beautiful however the customer service and the product is not friendly to use.

I use this for a rather different purpose. I have decorated the walls of my cottage with 1/2 round logs to create a log cabin look. But I needed chinking for between the logs. I looked at all the recommended possibilities and they were all very expensive.

I spoke with Home Depot and some contractor friends. They suggested Megalite. It is very clean and white – not cement grey. Most important is that it has significant flexibility built in. The wood logs expand and contract regularly with changes in temperature and I was afraid that cement would crack and might fall out.

I started using Megalite for this purpose about 3 years ago. So far it is working perfectly and I am extremely pleased with the result.

I switched from a much cheaper thinset mortar after it ran out. I read a few reviews of the Mega Lite brand and decided to give it a try. Yes it is more expensive than most brands. I was very pleased with the product, finding that its holding power is much better than the previous product I used.

I highly recommend Mega Lite.

I did 2 bathroom walls, and floor installation using 12 x 24 inches Porcelain tiles. Pros: 1. This product have a very good bonding strength. 2. After 6 months of installation, no tiles falling off the walls, and crack joints.

It works really well for heavy tiles. Highly recommended if you are okay with the price. Cons: 1. Price!!! Extremely expensive, for 30 pounds a bag and cost $59. 99, that is 3 times more expensive than other products and brands such as Mapei, Versabond.

I installed 2 bathrooms (1 tub sourround, 2 bathroom floors). I ended up using 6 bags of this products.

Easy to use, begins to dry fairly quickly. Good value.

In my new house I really wanted real terrazzo, but that’s not the budget I was working with. Terazio has been a great substitute at a much more affordable price. I ordered the glossy 24″ x 24″ samples, but went with the matte 12″ x 24″ due to price and layout concerns.

I do prefer the glossy finish — the matte gives away more of the computer printed design that’s more hidden on the glossy. However, if you’re just standing in the room normally, it’s not an issue. The matte also has some semi-sheen areas dotting it that I kept thinking were wet spots at first.

I chose gray grout as close to the Gesso color as possible and had the guys lay it with the thinnest grout lines they could, and it created a nice, solid look like classic terrazzo. The crew who installed it loved it, and literally everyone who has come in my house since then has mentioned, unprompted, how much they like my floors.

Ordered samples of all colors and the Palladio pattern was larger in scale than it looks here in the photo and the printing of it on the 12×24 is really very obviously printed and not recommended. The other colors with more speckled terrazzo look do look pretty good.

there are shiny spots on the matte finish which doesn’t bother me- it adds some interest. for the price these are a great terrazzo option!.

These tiles look fantastic in my new kitchen. They are the perfect contrast to the dark brown cabinets. I wanted a nod to the mid-century modern roots of my house without going overboard. This tile struck a perfect balance.
