20 Best Thermostat For Hot Water Baseboard Heat (2023 Updated)

Not the quality of my old Robrtshaw 240 volt line thermostat, but time will tell. This Honeywell has lead wires, pigtails attached, which means crowded box space. I searched the internet for one without pigtails to no avail.

The internal contacts are to close together for my liking. Perhaps another more expensive Honeywell would have been a better choice but its hard to choose when you cant see all that you are buying.

“Refurbished” but looks new. Used in remote, unheated cabin, connected to a ceramic heater, to prevent pipes from freezing. I’m impressed with 12-14 gauge wires which will handle the heater. It hasn’t actually kicked off yet and reviews like this should really be done after 2 years to see if it will actually perform as anticipated.

This looks like a good solution to my needs. Price is great.

It’s a good product, it comes with wires to hook up with the wires instead of screws so that with the wires coming out of the electric box you do have to force them all back inside. You could cut the wires shorter, I guess but I didn’t do that.

At any rate, the thermostat does work as it supposed to with electric heat and I would definitely recommend it. I got it for a good price too!.

I have the a cold kitchen and needed extra heat. I bought the Cadet basebroad heater with built-in thermostat. As the weather got colder the heat kept coming on, even at night when I didn’t need it. I couldn’t turn it off completely.

I replaced the thermostat with a new BTF1 thermostat thinking I had a broken thermostat. Only to find the problem continued. I wrote to Cadet customer service and they set me on the right road. I needed the double pole model BTF2 which has a positive turn off.

Nothing wrong with the BTF1 it was the temp in my kitchen. It was below the bottom range of the BTF1 which caused the heater to keep coming on. Both BTF1 and BTF2 both work very well. You just need to know which one you really need.

They advertise that it was a 120 240 system it is strictly 120 will not work for me what a waste of money

Easy install. Works fine. Not as sturdy as original part. But for price paid, great buy.

This is the 3rd RLV3150A thermostat installed. Each one is on a separate basebord heater. So far all are working well (first one installed a year ago). Installation is easy if replacing a 240V wall mount thermostat.

It does a good job keeping an even temperature in the room. Only complaint is when pressing Temp up or down to get the backlight to light, it sometimes increments or decrements the setpoint by 1 degree.

They should have a longer “wakeup” debounce on the button press. That’s the only reason for 4 stars Vs 5.

The above two product works fine and looks good, they were professionally installed by John of Skynoor electric on Nov 13 ( Home Depot recommended Pro ) with very reasonably price, Like John’s service very much and I will definitely recommend him to anyone requiring electrical work.

Excellent and highly recommended. Easy to use. Easy to install in less than 5mins. No noise or ticking from heaters. Temperature stays when set and is accurate. No issues. Very happy. That’s the way it should be.

Product is easy to install no paperwork needed for someone that understands general electrical. The digital read out is very easy to read. The buttons click as you push them to let you know your setting is being changed.

There is an on / off switch so no need to turn breaker off (unless completing service on unit) during non heating season. Temperature is very well controlled in a well insulated room and when its not blustery cold.

When its below 32 and windy, it will keep my required temp within 3 degrees +/- of set temp. I now have 3 of these units and will gladly keep using them as my house addiction grows.

It is so easy to set and reset, and gives the room temperature when not setting the heating temperature, so most of the time you see the actual temperature. It lights up when needed to read the numbers, and it is very simple, just push the up button to raise the temperature and the next button to lower the temperature.

It is important to note that the bottom white bar is not a push button but a slide switch, easy to assume it needs pressing. It is the best manual baseboard line voltage system of all the ones I’ve tried as a handyman.

I needed a wall thermostat to control 110v that went to an electric toe kick heater under a bathroom vanity. All the line voltage thermostats that I could find locally were for 220 v only. And they looked a bit cheap and clunky.

This one looks very nice. It is on the wall in a very tastefull, high quality bathroom remodel, and fits right in. Be sure you read the specs carefully if you are ordering a line voltage thermostat, because the ones designed for 220/240 volt do not work on a 110/120 volt application.

And visa versa. I tried to make one work and wasted a lot of time. This really solved my problem, but only after I had bought one that didn’t work because I didn’t read the specs carefully. I took the advise of a person at tech support who apparently didn’t know any more than I did, and recomemded a different one that didn’t work.

I ordered this to replace the original nVent Nuheat Tempo TH114-AF-GA controller on my floor. It was easy to install and works exactly like the Nuheat.

I used this thermostat on a couple of wall heaters. It is an ideal thermostat for this application. Easy to control, the display is bright with larger numerals that make it very easy to read. The on/off switch is a great function that I hadn’t valued when I ordered it, but rather than adjusting the temperature for occupied/unoccupied times, one can simply turn the thermostat off and thereby the heater.

Installed the Double Pole version of this thermostat to control a wall heater. This is a simple thermostat easy to operate. It is not all that accurate even after calibration with a new dial label. It looks a little dated (old) on the wall.

The tiny little allen screws are supposed to be for locking the cover on it. Good luck getting those on. The double pole version has 2 red and 2 black wires. The reds go to a separate switch in the back of the thermostat and are meant to disconnect voltage to the heater when you put the dial all the way to the left (off).

The black wires go to the actual thermostat switch and are temperature activated making or breaking the hot or black line. Problem I see is the red wires, per instructions, only break the white or neutral wire not the hot or black wires.

This works to disconnect the heater from power but there is a chance that the black or hot could still make via the thermostat and leave the unit “hot” for someone working on it. Kinda dangerous in my view.

Would have been better if they had wired the on/off switch to break the hot line. I’m reaching out to the manufacturer for more info.

I used this thermostat to control a resistance heater for the bathroom. Easy to hook up, worked as it should. I used this model because it can turn off the heater so it won’t come on. We only use it to warm up the bathroom during cold weather so we don’t have to heat the whole house up.

Liked that it wasn’t white, most thermostats we looked at were white and they did not match our rustic wood wall paneling. Also, it has a temperature indicator so you know how cold or warm the room is.

This is a good 240V double pole thermostat. Double pole means it has a true off position. It is very easy to install on a Cadet baseboard heater. The wiring instructions are easy to follow (note that there are separate instructions for left or right installation).

The thermostat controls a baseboard heater efficiently and just as designed. Be aware that the control knob is not marked with anything more than an OFF position, and an area half way around marked COMFORT ZONE.

My experience says that 68 degrees is significantly beyond the COMFORT ZONE (halfway between comfort zone and full on). I give it only 4 stars because the stem for the control knob is very light weight and part of the thermostat housing.

Sometimes the stem is not perfectly perpendicular to the outside plate, so the control knob turns in a wobbly fashion. I have found that bending on the stem is not a good idea. If you bend it back and forth a dozen times the stem will break off!.

I did receive the product in a better than expected time frame but I believe I was mislead with the description. It did say the products “box” was damaged but never mentioned the product was or may have been used.

When I opened up the box they were shipped in, the boxes with the product within that box were damaged as specified. However when I pulled the product from their damaged boxes it was very obvious the product had been used.

I have this exact thermostat throughout our home and will keep them due to their good quality and reliability but I am hoping they have not been damaged from their previous purchaser.

Finding a line voltage programmable thermostat that’s compatible with a hot water hydronic system (e. g. baseboard with a circulator) is not the easiest thing. My electrician recommended these years ago.

I had two already that have been in service since 2016 with no issues. Doing some renovation work in another part of my house and replaced 30 year old thermostats with the Lux’s once again. Just change the batteries once a year.

I do it around daylight savings time. So far. so good. I basically just use the HOLD feature. Set it and forget it.

I needed a 4 wire 240V thermostat for electric baseboard heat but was not sure I wanted the programmable type but after talking with one of your knowledgeable people I ended up with the programmable type & am very glad I did.

Very high quality product, which maintains house temperature within a degree at thechosen times, using our hydronic baseboard electric heaters. Various ELV4 models can be used, all with line voltage and heat only.

Fairly easy to set up following included instructions. We researched several thermostats and chose this one.

Works great and shipping was fast. Using it to control a heat lamp for a dog kennel. I used 2, 250 watt lamps (in case 1 burned out), with a double outlet controlled by this thermostat. I thought about using 2 thermostats in series just as a fail safe to make sure the lights would still shutoff if one thermostat failed shut off.

I think the probability of the happening is very low. And I have tested leaving the light on without the thermostat and highest the temperature on bed topped out at 92 degrees when the surrounding temperature was at 32 degrees.

I will retest that when the surrounding temperature is much high just to what the worst case would if the thermostat should somehow remain closed causing the lights to not shutoff.

I purchased two of these as replacements. I need the less popular two wire stat which limited my choices. The Cadet seems identical to other brands (like Honeywell). I found these to be off more than 5 degrees from setting, worse than the 25 year old ones I was replacing.

Going to try to re-calibrate. Worthless junk.

This is a brand new item and it works. The only thing is that I ordered 2 pole thermostat and I received single pole. Fortunately for me, it did not matter since my heater is actually single pole, but if someone needs 2 pole thermostat and receives single pole, there could be a problem.

I purchased 3 of these thermostats to replace the dial type thermostats that came with my condo. These new thermostats are exactly what I wanted, as they are completely silent, and are very accurate.

I like that these display this current room temperature, and have an icon on them that indicates not only when the room is being heated, but to what intensity the room is being heated as well. Installation was easy, the instructions are clear, and they have the same footprint on the wall as a standard dial type thermostat.

I would have liked if the LCD display were illuminated when using the thermostat, but I don’t expect that feature in this price range. Over All: It’s a precise unit that works exactly as it’s supposed to.

Quietly. Be aware that these are for electric baseboards only and handle a maximum load of 1000W on 120V. (I. E. Smaller heating applications) Check your heaters before purchasing.

This is an excellent product. Accurate, dependable, multi-featured. It even has multi-level heat demand which saves a lot of energy. My only complaint it that it does not have a back light. If you want to change the setting without waking the wife, you have to have a flashlight handy to see the readout.

Please note: There were missing parts with this item. The mounting screws are missing but are easy to replace. But the tiny screw that holds the cover on is missing. Very difficult to find such a tiny screw with the right thread.

May have to glue it on. Dang!.

High quality, hard wired unit. It would be so much nicer if they sold one with ac input and output plugs/ports. So many of us need this exact controller for things other than baseboard heat. Our own need was for a couple of units to turn devices on that would provide just enough heat to keep our outdoor bird cage safe when a few cold storms come thru each year.

The second is to provide just enough heat to keep our precious plants from freezing under the same conditions. We do drape everything with covers, but sometimes the weather gets even too cold for that protection.

Having to add a plug and an outlet to this device is clunky. If we could find as good a product that already had both, it would solve our problem completely. Sincerely, The Wilson’s of Crystal River, Florida.

Had to replace one that lasted 1 yr. I noticed it was so hot in our living room so shut it off but it wouldn’t go off! Shut the circuit off until I could pick a new one up. Got the new one, took out old one and one of the wires were BLACK! Glad we still have a house! The day before it was getting hot we heard a buzzing noise.

Now I don’t trust the other 5 new ones!.

This replaced a Honeywell mechanical t’stat that never worked properly. It would not come on when it was cold or shut off when it was warm. It became a simple manual on-off switch. This digital thermostat has no such problems.

It is simple, accurate and sensitive. Install was simple, except for it not being clear, in my house, which black wire was which. On the second try I got it right. No fault of the product. Works great so far.

Disappointed that Supply House shipped me new old stock instead of newly manufactured product. Parts shipped were made in 2013, it is now 2022. Especially since one of my original thermostats failed after just being installed for 10 years.

This stat is used to control two baseboard heaters in one room. I gave it 4 stars because the first one only lasted 2 seasons. Im hoping the new one will last much longer. They are easy to replace just make sure you kill the power first 220 kills.

I have this so called thermostat in my apartment, it is nothing more then an on / off switch. The numbers mean nothing, the temperature cannot be set, you can only turn it on or off, I am un able to control the temp in the apartment.

When i turn it on, (regardless of what temp you set it on) the heat begins to rise & rise & rise, until you shut it off will the temp begin to drop. The numbers on the unit make you think you can control it – but you cannot.

You may as well just put a standard on/off switch on the wall.

We heat our house with multiple electric heaters. The heaters themselves work great, but the built in thermostats never have. After looking at a variety of external thermostats, I almost bought the digital plug-in versions to try, but decided on this type of unit.

Glad I did. These do require a basic knowledge of electrical wiring to make the connections, but they’re very easy to wire and install. They also require a switch box to mount them, but again no problem.

I purchased 6, and now have them wired, set up, and tested, and am glad I went with this unit. They work great, and handle the heaters with no problem. The manual thermostat setting seems to be very accurate.

Will definitely make things easier this winter. Very satisfied, would purchased again, and would recommend. And, they’re a great deal compared to the digital units.

Thermostat is poor grade, very cheap quality. Even the weight of it you can tell it is very limited on build. It does not deserve the Honeywell name. It cannot handle the amperage it is rated at. I installed on a 17 amp heater and the thermostat did not even last one day.

Look at the back of it and see the plastic holding the terminals is paper thin. It might perform well for low grade, low amperage, residential equipment but for anything commercial I would go with a more heavy duty thermostat.

I ended up installing a Marley WR66 that worked just fine. I am a licensed electrician.

My home uses high voltage electric wall heaters so isn’t compatible with the mainstream smart thermostats. When I found out about Mysa and read up on it on their website, I thought my problem was solved.

It even claimed to work with Alexa. I bought 3 of them and had a pro electrician help install them. Once they weee installed, I was immediately disappointed at the LACK of sensitivity of the physical wall thermostat – there is no knob or quick thing you flip to turn the thermostat up or down.

Insead you have to press the Up or Down arrow repeatedly, with each push changing the setting 1 degree. As slow and annoying as it would be to do that every time with it working on each touch, the darn screen is nowhere near sensitive enough so you practically have to firm hold your finger down for over half a second each time – and even then it sometimes takes 2-3 tries before you move it 1 degree.

For the above disappointing reason, the next logical choice to adjust the Mysa temperature setting in a room is to use the app. Only problem is, it takes up to 5 seconds for the app to fire up every single time you open it.

Then there is STILL no quick slider or fast way to adjust it. You still have to click the up or down arrow as many times as needed. So when you are leaving the bedroom for the day, it can take as long as 15 seconds to just change the darned temperature setting.

– How is this any more convenient or “smart” than the old knob I had on my dinosaur thermostat?? If you want to save yourself the pain of doing this over and over eaxh day, with multiple thermostats, you can set a schedule.

Again, instead of designing this with something SIMPLE like a slider to select the hours you want included and another slider to quickly scroll to the temperature you want it at, you have to manually go in and type what hour you want it to be at a certain temperature, then select the temperature, save it, then repeat the process all over again for when you want it to stop and what temperature you want it to to to when that time stops.

All of these frustrating user interface errors and non seamless usage design could easily be overlooked if it proved to be more efficient and save on your energy bills. — At the end of the day, that’s a big selling point they use to justify their large sticker price of over $100 per unit and why I thought it’d be worthwhile to keep them.

After using them from December until March, I can conclusively say with certainty: 1. They did NOT lower my electric bill. In fact it is higher. 2. By default, the thermostat makes the heater go in short cycles, as some “eco mode” gimmick.

Aside from being annoying having the heater fan fire up and stop 2-3 times within 5 minutes when you’re trying to go to sleep, it’s NOT a fast way to bring a room to a desired temperature. 3. Due to poor design, the heater’s temperature detector seems to pick up the temperature of the hot air rising from the wall unit that 99.

99% of home builders place directly below the thermostat. Result? If you are freezing and want the room warmed up from 60 degrees when you walk in to 70 degrees, it starts to heat the room and then detects that the hot air rising closest to the thermostat is 70 degrees and shuts off.

After a few minutes, it notices the general room temperature is still quite low so it fires up again. In summary, if they were not such an intricate and extensive process to swap out, I would have ripped them out and sent them back and put my old 1960s looking cadet thermostat wheel back on.

Oh, and does it work with Amazon Alexa? If you tell Alexa to raise or lower the temperature, all she does is read you what the temperature is currently set for. Tried to find an Alexa skill to see if that’s what I was missing.

There is none. COMPLETE waste of money!.

TLDR: Would I buy this knowing what I know now? Yes, but I wished there were a few more improvements. The hardest thing to do is wiring up this to your existing setup, but that’s really not the fault of Mysa as they lay it out quite simply, but it’s just if you’re not familiar with home wiring, it gets a bit frustrating.

(traveller wire, which one is hot which one isn’t, which one is the load, which one isn’t. etc). For the unit itself: Pros: – very clean, no hinges, no doors, gets straight to the point and doesn’t scream look at me – humidity and temp sensors included – simple control scheme (more on this) – great installation experience (more on this) – pid controller is excellent, learns well and is tuned well Cons: – few dedicated controls and indicators, which leads to lack of feedback (although I think creative solutions are possible to make it work in software as long as the hardware is capable) – wifi only (wish we could have z-wave for home automation without the need of the cloud, experienced the aws servers going down and it affected our usage of the thermostats) App (as of version 2.

14. 0(305)): Pros: – scheduling is robust enough – control layout mostly makes sense – pairing process was pretty easy – energy consumption layout is excellent – history of energy usage/setpoint/temp/humidity is available and easily accessible – early on feature – eco-mode feature – zoning is great cons: – I want to know if the thermostat is following the schedule, sometimes it says it does, but when we check the history – would like more feedback – interface could be cleaned up (more down below) – scheduling is robust but I would prefer another way of inputting time and temp changes instead of looking at a list of numbers, a graph that could be manipulated would’ve been better All the home management controls and options should be placed on a separate side panel as opposed to having them clumped together with “account, install&support, manage mysa homes, get more mysas”.

It would really clean up the experience and not clutter that area. Issues I’ve had: – aws servers going down, rendering app useless, wish it would tell us this on the app instead of having me google around for it.

I was just in the midst of doing some changes on my network during the outage and I thought I did something wrong the entire time, went through the whole process of pairing and unpairing, hard resetting, power cycling.

it was annoying. A simple notification connected to their webpage would’ve solved this issue in no time. – not 100% sure if commands go through to the thermostat – thermostat doesn’t follow the schedule even though app says it does but when checking setpoint history, it has not changed.

Features I have not yet used: – Geofencing.

I have installed seven Mysa thermostats for electric baseboard heaters and used them for over a month now. Overall the experience has been good, but with several small yet annoying issues I did not expect for a device at this price point.

Pros: I love the scheduling feature and the ability to switch off rooms at night or when out of the house. The energy use graphs are interesting and useful and so are the monthly reports you receive via email.

The devices generally do everything they are advertised to do very well. Cons: The annoyances are mostly in software and so may be fixed in later updates, but I did the touch interface of the thermostat to be too insensitive to my touch.

Trying to change the set point by several degrees can be frustrating. On software I have experienced several crashes in the iOS app, mostly while browsing the graphs. It may be related to the time periods where the number of installed thermostats changed, or when there was missing data.

I have seen several periods of a few hours where data are missing, even in the rooms closest to my wifi router, and in general I don’t have connection issues with other devices. One night there was a serious issue and all the Mysas went offline, failing to increase the set point in the morning making for a very chilly start to my day.

That may have been related to an automatic update of the iOS Home App, and in general the synchronization between the Mysa app and Home app is a little clunky and unreliable. Even though my Cons list is longer than my Pros, an the whole I am satisfied and happy with the purchase.

However, for the full retail price that Cons list is pretty hard to stomach, and I did expect better for such a premium. The sale price, multi-unit discount, and rebate from our electric company made the quirks easier to accept.

I hope that future software updates can solve many of the issues I have experienced.

It works as designed. It could be improved by calibrating it and actually putting temperatures on the thermostat dial. Since mine was going into a well house in northern Wisconsin, I needed a bit more precision than “Off, LO, MED, HI.

” I put it in the frezeer, then the refrigerator, and finally at ambient temperature to find out where the dial position activated the circuit. Pretty rough but far more accurate than the existing dial marks.

After re marking the dial with temperature numbers it is going to work fine on this project.

I used this thermostat with a 24″ baseboard heater, also from here. A bit nervous about doing the wiring but the instructions and illustrations made the job straightforward. Also, very timely delivery.

Completely pleased with heater and thermostat. Have since bought two additional heaters plus one thermostat.

bought 4 heaters with thermostat they all work great. haven’t really used them except to burn off whatever makes them smell when new but they seam to work and do what they are meant to do. Thanks for everything DJ.

Starting in the fall of 2020 I had specified Mysa thermostats for baseboards (240V) combined with new “Comfort Cove” Infrared Radiant heaters from Radiant Heat Systems for my son’s new home that we were building for him which consisted of a two bedroom Cape style modular atop a single car garage on one side and a walkout basement on the other.

Radiant Heat Systems provided us a take off and plan for where to position the cove heaters sized for each area of the home (seven areas; Kitchen, Living Room, 2 Bed rooms, 1 bath, 1 walkout basement, 1 single car garage) all insulated with R19 in the walls (2×6) and R36 in the ceilings.

My son received his occupancy permit from our city in September 2021 and has been acclimating himself to the Mysa controls using his I-phone. He is a music educator and has many late nights at work with band, orchestra, jazz band, booster meetings, etc.

With Mysa he is able to communicate to any room in his home so when he gets home it is to a warm and comfortable home. The heat from the IRH cove heaters are wonderfully efficient and maintenance free but the bonus is Mysa’s ability to schedule, accommodate overrides, and report back electricity usage and cost by room is truly a huge value add.

Now that we’re getting into the heating season here in Maine, my son really appreciates the ease of use and the control Mysa’s afford him. I was urged to write a review shortly after procuring the seven Mysa thermostats directly from Mysa back in May of 2021 but back then we were not even close to installing them.

So fast forward to November 2020 and the fact that we have experience with the products we’re delighted to give the Mysa team a big thumbs up for providing us a wonderful product that allows us to be fossil fuel free and that’s doubly comfortable.

The Almond thermostat matches perfectly with the baseboard heater and, as a thermostat should, works perfectly. Great, fast fulfillment.

I thought I had to replace my entire unit when I broke the knob on my baseboard heater. The replacement part came quickly. Saved me a lot. Heater is working perfectly again
