A thermostat for a heat pump with auxiliary heat is a device that controls the temperature of the air in a room or space by turning the heat pump and auxiliary heat on or off, or by regulating the flow of hot or cold air.
20 Best Thermostat For Heat Pump With Auxiliary Heat
White Rodgers 7-Day Programmable 2H/1C Thermostat 1F83H-21PR Before considering which thermostat to buy, please read our helpful Guide to Choosing the Right Thermostat. The White Rodgers 80 Series thermostat is easy to install, has a large 4.
5″inch high-contrast, bright backlit screen making it easy to read in low-light situations and features a slim profile with a modern design. This thermostat is ideal providing clarity in selection, installation and programming.
This thermostat is good for use in gas, oil, electric, heat pump and conventional applications.
I replaced my thermostat last fall on my heat pump with a Honeywell thermostat. During the January cold snap, my heating bill necessarily skyrocketed. The Honeywell stat ran the emergency heat just as soon as the heat pump would kick on.
I ordered this Emerson stat from SupplyHouse on Saturday afternoon. It was shipped on Sunday and I installed it Tuesday morning. The stat works properly, keeps even heat and does not start the aux heat until there is a 3 degree difference like it should.
The shipping was very quick and with UPS, the stat arrived in less than 3 days.
The wiring instructions are not clear for a 7 wire connection. Need to be very specific concerning aux/emergency heat regarding clipping the w2/e jumper. Even though I had a wire specifically for the e terminal and the w2 terminal I should not have clipped the jumper since the aux and emergency heat are the same source.
There should be a non permanent way to separate the e/w2.
I bought the refurbished unit. Wired it up exactly as the original thermostat, and as the included manual (haha) suggested. Turned the power back on, switched on the AC, and the heat came on. Disconnected it, tried again, and same result.
Reconnected the old digital thermostat, and it ran perfectly. Not sure why, but I do know it didn’t work for me. Returned the unit for a refund.
The Emerson Digital Non-Programmable Thermostat offers electronic controls and a big, clear digital display for simple control of your heating and cooling system. The backlit display allows for you to see the controls clearly.
It has a precise temperature control that ranges from 45-95 degreed Fahrenheit. It’s easy to use, easy to see and has easy access to the battery compartment.
Had to replace an old digital thermostat on a Rheem heat pump. Watched a few youtube videos to see if it was something I could do and it was. One important tip was O/B connection. Most have orange wire, mine had blue (Rheem) so you have to flip a switch on the board to let it know which you are using.
Also, in installers setup menu you have to set the compressor lockout as it defaults to no delay. My old thermostat had a built in 5 minute delay, so I had to turn it ON with the Emerson. The other thing to watch for is the W2/E jumper.
The instruction book is very helpful, better than most, but check what you have on the old one before disconnecting the wires. With my notes from the videos and my hand written diagrams I was ready. Everything went as planned.
The test section in the manual confirmed everything was working correctly. It has been more than a month and so far no problems, heating or cooling.
If you have a heat pump AC, this thermostat will make you very happy. I bought in early June but didn’t replace my old one until early August because I was afraid to mess it up, I took photos of the old one (Climatouch) wires To make sure I have the right connecting terminals which I have 5 wires, red, blue, white, green, light red.
Very fortunate I see the same color wires in this new one, took the old one off the wall, place this new one in, Turn the power on, bingo! Sounds easy? But I spent more time to figure out how to screw the thermostat into the wall because my old one has a bigger hole 🙁 anyway, I gave myself a pad 9n my back, all my worries has been overestimated! Effect? This new one is very efficient, it maintains the room temperature whenever the room is getting hotter, the result is a very comfortable atmosphere all day and night! More frequently to kick on but much shorter period of about 5 min vs 20 min of my old one which won’t kick on until there was a 2 degrees differential between the setting temp and the room temp, sucks! Go ahead, but this one if you have a heat pump ac, you won’t be sorry 🙂 by the way, I just received my electricity bill, there are 2 weeks of using this new 9ne but my bill is the same!.
This works great on my 2 stage Geothermal Heat pump with auxiliary heat! I did have to get some assistance on wiring since the old thermostat was coded differently. I am very happy and would recommend.
Honeywell Programmable thermostat features a standard easy to read digital display with an electronic control to maintain desired temperature. The precise comfort control (+/-1 F) helps in maintaining highest level of consistent comfort with accuracy.
It comes with simplified program for easy operation. The adaptive intelligent recovery feature ensures programmed temperature is reached within time. The temperature range stop helps in controlling too high and too low temperature settings.
An easy changing battery door allows you for easy battery replacement with just a flip out of door. This programmable thermostat is perfect to use for heating/cooling in heat pump with auxiliary heat.
Works perfectly! However, you MUST program the unit during setup and installation. Some programming specs are not readily known by the DIY’er, so this may be an issue. I had the advantage of replacing my T-Stat with an exact duplicate.
I was replacing my old Honeywell that the backlight had failed on with an exact replacement. Heat pump settings can be not as straight forward as you might think. There are a number of different possible configurations for heat pumps.
I was able to get the settings for the replacement out of the old one. I went to the setup function on both units and simply copied my same settings from the old one into the new one for each step. If you are doing a fresh install, however, some of the settings required may not be so readily known without having the heat pump documentation.
So I recently purchased this and the base unit is very simple to install. I’m not an electrician but I am a home improvement enthusiast and DYI-er so I have some experience in home repair and improvements but the instructions were detailed enough that I could properly wire the unit by myself.
The only thing is that if you don’t know boilers and where to pull the power from, you may have trouble so you might need to look up your boiler online to see which terminals have power and where to pull from.
Great range. It goes through several stories (basement -> ground floor -> 2nd floor -> 3rd floor where thermostat is) without any problems. 100% happy with how easily it connected. Very simple. Just a push of one button and it’s set.
The thermostat is also customizable to fit the type of heating and air conditioning setup you have. I HIGHLY recommend this for people who don’t want to spend thousands of dollars rewiring their home.
This isn’t for your DIY beginner but if you’re familiar with wiring diagrams and electrical work, this is the product for you!.
This is one of the greatest products ever! I wanted to add zoning to our upstairs unit so that we could have separate control for our master suite, home office and guest room because the temperatures were so different and with only the one thermostat, the office would end up way too warm in the summer and we’d have to set the master to freezing cold to get anything close to comfortable in the office.
Sure, I could have spent time pulling wires, but with this, why? All our other thermostats are focusPros and I really like the simplicity of them. Yes, I used to be all into the fancy touchscreens and such, but since we bought this new house I’ve decided I prefer the more minimalist interface of these; simple buttons for up, down, and mode settings, clear display, etc.
We don’t use any of the programming and just set the temp we want and pretty much leave it there. Don’t get me wrong, this is a powerful thermostat and can control even the most advanced systems (up to 3H, 2C plus heat pump and aux I believe) and it works with the remote comfort control as well.
It took me literally minutes to install; just mount the thermostat where you want it, install the EIM (which is the receiver) near the equipment, sync and done! I used this for our second zone, so I just wired the EIM to the zone panel and it wires just as if you were hard-wiring a thermostat directly.
Connections are clearly marked and easy to do. Everything works flawlessly and temperature control is very accurate. Installed the thermostat in our office since it’s the room we use the most and added the remote comfort control, which is in the guest room, so when we have guests staying with us they can control the temp of that room from there by selecting ‘Sense temp from: This Device’.
Once they do it takes control and the thermostat will display ‘Remote has control’ and show the set temp and current room temp on the display. The whole system is awesome! You can also use this to easily re-locate an existing thermostat.
However, after reading many reviews of this product I noticed many people saying that the EIM (receiver unit) goes where the old thermostat was, which while technically possible, is not how it’s intended to be installed.
The EIM goes near the equipment itself; you just disconnect the existing thermostat wire at the equipment and run a new (fairly short) wire from the EIM to the equipment. You then place the new thermostat where ever you want and you can tuck the old wiring into the wall and cover the hole however you like.
Honeywell really created a great product here with this kit and we couldn’t be happier. All our rooms are now comfortable because each thermostat reacts to the environment of each room separately.

THIS THERMOSTAT SAVES ME MONEY ON MY POWER BILL. This thermostat has an accuracy range of only 1 degree. It comes on when it is one degree below your chosen temp and runs only until the A C has reached the higher end of that chosen temp and it shuts off.
This keeps the house very close to the temp you want constantly and runs for much shorter periods of time but still keeps the house at my chosen temp constantly. It is saving me about $45 to $50 a month.
I had a Home Depot bought thermostat put in when my prior one broke about 4 months ago. That thermostat had a accuracy range of about 3 degrees therefore the A C ran constantly and for very long periods of time making the house colder that I wanted and let it get a couple of more degrees warmer than I liked.
This ran my power bill up at least $50 more per month. I LOVE THIS THERMOSTAT !!.
We have lived in our home seven years. The thermostat worked, but the LCD read out was missing segments. I’m a DIY kind of guy, so I went online to find a fix. I made it worse. Time for a new thermostat.
This is a direct replacement for the hard-to-read thermostat. I took a phone photo and made a diagram of the wiring. A few minutes later, I had a functioning thermostat with a COMPLETE read out. I dissed the maker one star because in 20 years (since the house was built), they should have upgraded to an LED display.
This is a great thermostat. It is easy to read and easy to operate. My last one had a light that stayed lit 24/7. this one does not. Now I have to turn on a room light to read this one. I liked the 1st one MUCH better.
but it doesn’t seem to be available anymore. The lit one could be read at night with no other lights. Still. a good thermostat.
This non-programmable digital thermostat from white-rodgers includes two aa energizer alkaline batteries. The batteries power the unit’s first-stage heat and first-stage air. Heating and coolingthe unit provides first-stage heat no auxiliary heat for gas, oil, electric, and heat pump systems.
It provides first-stage cooling for compressor systems. Features include: lcd with backlightselectable celsius/fahrenheit temperature displayb/o terminalselectrical accuracythe 70 series thermostat is the perfect upgrade from a mechanical thermostat because of its electrical accuracy and the fact that it doesn’t require an extra wall plate.
It’s also compatible with all millivolt systems and provides accurate readings.
This is a replacement for one I had. I prefer plain & simple, where I can turn the air conditioner, heater, or blower on and off when I want it and still have the thermostat tell me the temperature of the room, even when off.
It looks good and is easy to use. If you don’t want all the fancy settings to program and re-program, this is for you. My last Emerson thermostat was the original when the house was built in 1979. You can’t beat that kind of durability! I am not familiar with wiring, so I had someone install it, so I cannot comment on that, but the wires do have to be hard-wired (not plug-in, like a computer).
So I went down 1 star for install. But none seem to be for a lay-person who know nothing about electricity.
1st, it was a surprise that this unit wouldn’t operate without batteries. Now I have an annual maintenance chore and maybe a rude awakening one freezing night when the batteries are dead. 2nd, the unit leaves a huge unpainted area from the old thermostat’s silhouette.
3rd, for my heat pump, it requires 2 jumper wires in addition to the control wires. There is a tiny slot for the wires to pull through and the entrance of the terminals are about 5/8″ apart, requiring hemostats to push the wires in the terminals.
No fault indicator or emergency heat switch, so I had to incorporate that into the fabricated adapter plate. Overall, I would NOT buy this item again.
Replaced Thermostat with same White Rogers Model Number because it says has back lighting which the old one did not. After I installed I realized this one doesn’t either or it is defective. The original had large screws to wrap wires around but the new one has Tiny Screws and wires have to be inserted at 90 degree angles making the installation much more difficult.
I would install the original and return the new one but its not worth my time to reinstall.
Honeywell’s FocusPRO 5000 digital thermostat offers the perfect blend of features, performance, energy savings and value. With the largest backlit screen in its class, the FocusPRO 5000 prominently displays both room and set temperature.
Using primarily online videos from variety of users, the thermostat was replaced with no problem. Also, I talked with a hardware store electronics person. Then, easily using a flathead screwdriver to separate the unit from the ‘wall-plate’ was very helpful.
Finally, bending the wires to accommodate the unit that runs vertically as opposed to horizontally was the final discovery needed to succeed. In summary, when contacting ‘Honeywell’ for assistance, a simple conversation would have helped; instead, I was transferred to a commercial vendor which would charge for consultation.
I did not use them. Notably, it required a bit of force to separate the wall plate, as well as slightly bending cold wires.
This replaced a 21 year old Honeywell Programmable thermostat that quit working. I like the large easy to read display and the simplicity of a non-programmable thermostat. The wife likes it also. It seems to hold a good steady temperature.
This is an easy installation if the existing thermostat wires are properly marked. The Honeywell 50002883-001 cover plate assembly adds a nice touch to the wall mount. It has tested out fine on both the central a/c and the oil-fired boiler.
THANK YOU! Only the outer casing is what needed to be replaced. The previous owner was so rough with it, that the heater could no longer be adjusted. Now, for installation, your phone crew was awesome and helpful, but had I known what kind of a system we had in our condo complex I would not have had to call a repair company.
But when he corrected me on the heating system we had, I knew instantly the simple adjustment I needed to make in the settings, and it was fixed – no more issues. It still was less costly to fix in the long run.

I bought a replacement thermostat. I was fortunate to find one that matched the thermostat that was originally installed with my heating system. It has been professionally installed and works well, as it should.
Many good features on this T’stat. Easy to program and easy to use. Needed a t’stat with a calibration offset and this one has it. Taht was a principle reason for choosing this one. Not all t’stats have that feature.
Nice size and the backlight is a pleasing blue color.
Handle the Dropping and Raising of Home Temperature Easily with the White Rodgers 80 Series 5/1/1-Day Programmable Digital Thermostat You can program the White Rodgers 1F82-261 thermostat for 5 working days and separately for Saturdays and Sundays.
The large LCD display with contrast facilitates easy reading even in the dark. This unit can help you accurately control indoor temperature. You can hardwire this unit for effective installation.
This product was recommended by my HVAC repair person, they rated it ahead of all the others I had heard about. This product is great and preforms wonderfully. The instructions provided were clear and easy to understand – I’m not an electrician and I felt confident as they were really easy to use explaining what needed to happen step by step.
Installation was fast about 30min. It helped to have a second set of hands to hold the the unit in place until all the wires are connected. You’ll need to know which model is compatible w/ your HVAC unit before you make your purchase.
The instructions made installation easy and the tags provided saved a lot of time. If you can replace a light switch you can replace your thermostat and save a lot of greenbacks. Ordering was easy and the prices offered were better than competitor sites.
Delivery arrived way ahead of the projected date. Consider me a repeat customer when my next project presents itself. Thanks.
Got this one because it was the same as the old one. If you buy a different style you may have a spot on the wall to paint. Easy to install take a picture of you wires before removing old one. You will need a small Phillips screwdriver.
Change your batteries before you call the old one dead. It may be all you need. Be sure the o/b wires are right.
Your new Honeywell thermostat has been designed to give you many years of reliable service and easy-to-use, push-button climate control. Features: Backlit display is easy to read. Displays ambient (measured) temperature at all times.
One-touch access to set point temperature. Built-in compressor protection.
This thermostat was recommended by my local HVAC professional. He was right. The best feature is the simplicity of design and function. It is lightning fast to change the temperature, which we do often.
A programmable thermostat may be good for some, but if you’re changing the temperature in different zones, then this is for you! Also, we have a single zone AC thermostat that we use during the summer, so we didn’t need a combination AC/Heat thermostat.
You’ll be very pleased with the ease of installation and performance of this product.
I’ve had this for 2 winters now. It works great. It has a simple 2 wire hookup. I did take the opportunity to move the thermostat from over the dining room bench to the hallway. I would really recommend this to anyone with an RV who wants a simple heat only thermostat.
Edit 3/11/17: I installed mine in an RV. I really like it because of the accuracy and also due to the fact that I moved the thermostat from right next to an outside wall to an inside wall when I put this in.
However, my batteries don’t last very long. This might be due to the fact that the RV is unheated most of the time. So when I go to it and it’s been sitting in 15 or 20 degree weather for two weeks I almost always have to pull the cover off and either replace the batteries or pull the batteries out and rotate them.
I’ve bought an external battery holder that I’m going to wire into the thermostat and see if that makes my set up easier. Other than the battery issue I do love the accuracy of the thermostat.
Order product based on feedback and research. Installed Sensi Touch Wif-FI Thermostat based on Emerson website and followed instructions. Once installed ONLY the fan would run, compressor would not start, no cold air.
Called tech support located in the Philippines, man stated he was trained HVAC technician. Per his request I sent him pictures of my thermostat wiring before I removed, he had change some settings in the advance settings with the heat pump valve, still no cold air.
Then he had me jump 3 low voltage wires off the thermostat using a wire nut, then 4 wires using, still not cold air. He said I would need to call a HVAC professional for my DIY project. I said I would just removed the Sensi WI-FI Thermostat and return it and put my old thermostat back on the wall and he said it would not work.
I said, I’m sure it will, my HVAC system was running an hour ago with the thermostat I just took off the wall. He said, the old thermostat will not work. He was RIGHT whatever the Sensi Thermostat, advance setting changes to heat pump valve, and hot wiring my system prevents my compressor for starting.
I have called Sensi Touch Wi-Fi (Emerson) customer service/tech support twice and still waiting for a manager to call me back. So now, I waiting for a local HVAC repair company to show up to get my HVAC system up an running, spent all weekend in Florida with NO air conditioning.
Large 2 sq. In. Display with bright blue backlight, adjustable temperature limits, hardwire or battery powered Permanent memory retains settings, compressor short cycle protection, separate O & B terminals Low battery indication, ESD guard electronic circuitry, front access reset button F /C switch, gas/electric Fan switch English/Spanish packaging and instruction card with free contractor branding The Braeburn 1020NC is a nonprogrammable thermostat from the Builder series.
This model is designed to control single stage conventional or heat pump systems. All thermostats from the Builder series feature a bright blue backlight display. This model in particular has a larger display (2 sq.
in. ) than other thermostats from the Builder product line. With large characters on the display, it is easier to check and view settings of the thermostat. This unit is also simple to operate with a system switch you can choose between heat, cool, or off modes.
Two arrow buttons are used to increase or decrease settings. Also, when the batteries need to be changed, a low battery indicator will go off. With the Braeburn 1020NC energy costs can be controlled by setting heat and cool temperature limits.
This unit also offers flexible installation; it can be battery powered or hardwired.
I live in a smallish town in southern Nevada and the contractors class of work is reflected by the neighborhood home values. We hired a roofing contractor to fix our mobile homes roof. He quoted me a price and left me with shingle samples.
He found out my then 87 year old mother was paying for it. He came very early while my. My mom was shopping and fixed the garage and got paid and left. When I returned home I was stunned. I didn’t want my mom to feel bad so I just kept my mouth shut.
I know nothing about one brand of thermostat or another. But this one offered the features I wanted at a great price. I am hooking this up to work in conjunction with my fireplace blower. I needed to wire it opposite of normal, so set on cool, it kicks the fan on when the room is warm enough to pump the heat through the ducts to the rest of the house.
Worked like a charm! I am glad I didn’t spend twice as much on another brand. This was easy to install and looks nice too. Buy it!.
I purchased this for my camper because the thermostat before would not turn the heat on if it got below 42F. I really like this unit and that it displays the set temperature continually. The only slight negative is that the switches feel a little cheap.

Reviews From Real Customers
After having this device for about 7 months I can safely say that this device is not what it’s all cracked up to be. Aesthetically it looks really nice on my wall, gives it a pretty modern look. Also being able to control the climate via phone is pretty handy but other than that it’s not very useful.
First it’s auto scheduling is very unpredictable and impractical. As a person that already keeps the thermostat at 78 degrees there doesn’t seem to be anything this thing can do to save energy while also keeping the house at a comfortable temperature.
It will try to put the house a 83 degrees sometimes and you have to switch it back up. The auto scheduling will eventually switch it back down and it’s a constant fight with this device, which ends up using more power to cool the house 6 degrees.
If you try to set up your own schedule like turning down the AC during peak hours, it will make its own with worse temperatures at random times. At the end I have not seen a change in my electric bill compared to last years kWh usage after 7 months with me allowing it to auto schedule.
Despite the uncomfortable temperatures it set my house too. I ended up turning it off, which defeats the purpose then it just becomes a regular $30 thermostat for $250. Luckily my local electric company has a rebate program that gives you a $85 credit to your bill which brings down the price but not enough to justify the cost compared to my old thermostat.
Your better off just keeping your thermostat at 78 and just leaving it there because it’s more energy efficient to keep a house cool that to cool it down from a high temperature.
I bought this unit to upgrade from Gen 2 because it can both make use of the sensors and it has dual-band WiFi for a stronger signal. It was very easy to install, it looks great, and it’s very intuitive to use, either on the wall, with your phone, or via a voice assistant.
I’ll ding it a little bit because the sensor schedule—that is, when the device can be told to use which sensor—can’t be customized. You have 4 pre-set blocks to choose from, and that’s it. But then the trouble started.
First I got a dreaded W5 error, meaning it’s WiFi radio was no longer working. I contacted Google for a replacement, which arrived promptly… but it kept getting caught in a boot loop and I couldn’t set it up.
A second replacement arrived and wouldn’t correctly read my (very straightforward!) wiring, despite the fact that the one with the W5 error still could. The third replacement had the same issue, at which point I was advised to spend $130 to have a technician inspect my system to verify it was in fact the thermostat that wasn’t working.
So after 6 total hours on the phone with customer support and HVAC technicians, and 3 replacement thermostats, I finally got my fourth one: an ecobee. I had it on and functioning in 20 minutes. My experience is probably very far outside the norm.
I most likely just had a run of bad luck; I know when I see reviews like this for something I have maybe already talked myself into, I think, “ah but that’s just one guy; he’s unlucky or he did something wrong; that won’t happen to me.
” And it probably won’t! But given the sheer number of issues I encountered—from failing components to annoying limitations to inept and sometimes contradictory customer support (who, at the end of the day, are call-center employees and decidedly *not* HVAC technicians)—I’d urge you to strongly consider other smart thermostats.
This one is just not worth the risk or the headaches.
This thermostat looks nice, better than any other thermostat. The installation and general setup is OK, it takes about about 30 minutes if all wiring is there. It also easily integrates with Samsung SmartThings v2.
But the functionality is not as advanced as for instance Ecobee’s. The occupancy sensor in Nest thermostat is pretty much useless. I was home moving around, and the Nest thermostat would switch to Away state thinking that there is noone home.
The remote sensor that came with it does not have an occupancy detection, so all you can count on for occupancy detection is really the smartphones of the people that live in the house, which is not a really nice way of detecting home occupancy.
If you have multiple sensors in the house you only can pick one at the time to regulate on its measure temperature, there is no possibility of averaging in this thermostat. Also, the history view is really poor for Nest, Ecobee did a much better job on this.
And if you download the history data from the website, the status data is in JSON format and it is impossible to interpret. Also, the deadbands are not adjustable for Nest, at least I could not find it.
I did not try its learning feature myself since it already had a lot of negative comments. So, I think if one wants to buy a nice stylish looking thermostat for a very basic use, Nest Learning Thermostat is a very good choice.
But if one wants a highly customizable thermostat which one can also regularly monitor and adjust, then there are better choices , like Ecobee.
The T3 Pro Non Programmable Thermostat is simple to use with straight forward backlit display and percise comfort control. The thermostat can be powered by a common wire or batteries. Set an alert to change AA batteries to maintain comfort controls with memory storage even during a power outage.
Features 2 Heat/1 Cool Heat pump Large backlit digital display Intuitive up and down vertical buttons Precise comfort accuracy of +/1F.
Works perfectly to keep the temperature levels you set for Heat mode and Cool mode. Then you just walk away and enjoy it. No busy fiddly “programming” for hours, just set the temperatures you want and enjoy.
The physical size is about the same as the old “programmable” unit, which never seemed to remember the settings, for the temperature, for the time window, for the day, for the heat or cold, for. Enough! Worse, the “programmable” unit did not know how to switch between Heat and Cool on its own! This one does! If you like fiddling around with a “programmable” thermostat, or having to manually select Heat or Cool, this isn’t for you.
This is literally “set it and forget it”. A masterpiece of climate-control engineering.
This thermostat is about useless for homeowners who wants to change their old thermostats to a new programmable one you can’t mount them to your walls without having to buy a mounting plate at an extra cos? We just bought two of these thermostats 5-2 DAY PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTAT RTH6360 5-2 DAY PROGRAMMABLE THERMOSTAT to change our old ones out but we couldn’t mount them do to no mounting bracket or plate.
So we had to take them back and get our money back wasn’t to happy about wasting gas to have to take them back? plus you have to pay extra money for the brackets to mount them? If Honeywell had any brains they would at least put the bracket in their thermostat boxes to give the homeowners who have older thermostats in their homes the option to be able to change to the new programmable ones without having to pay extra money for the bracket.
We liked the thermostat but couldn’t use it so very disappointed with Honeywell.
I was looking to replace a very old mercury type thermostat on a hydronic in floor system which is a low voltage type system. Gives me. 5 degree control which makes a difference. I can program this, see the set temp and the actual temp as well as know which zone is on.
Initial programing requires you to know a little bit about your heating system but wasn’t to hard. All I had was 2 wires so connecting it was simple. Turn power off before starting install and remember to install batteries, Very happy, I have a much better looking thermostat that provides me with much more control and info than the basic mercury switch and because I got it on sale it was about the same price as the simpler type controllers.
It should be noted this NOT for baseboard type heating systems.

The product is highly durable and handle. The product is manufactured in china.
I bought this unit at Home Depot to replace a Google Nest. Like one of the other reviews here, I also had the issue where it would say “cooling” but instead turned the heat on. I discovered the top floor of my home to be well over 100 degrees (the unit can only display up to 99).
Two different HVAC repair technicians confirmed that I wired it correctly. The second one told me that the thermostat was bad and to replace it. I replaced this with a more expensive T5 touch screen unit that works great.
Unfortunately, I had already thrown the box away and couldn’t take this unit back so I am out 80$.
You’ll love the difference this low voltage thermostat from Emerson makes in heating and cooling your space. This low voltage thermostat is designed with a 24Vac voltage and a 45 degrees to 99 degrees F control range.
It comes complete with 1 cooling stage and 1 heating stage. A horizontal mounting allows for utmost usability. You’ll know this control is compatible with your system by the following terminal designations: R, C, O/b, W2, Y, G, L.
Keep your Hvac system in check with heat-cool-off-emergency system switching and auto-on fan switching.
Great thermostat and very convenient with out all the programming. I set my sleep temperature 5 degrees cooler or warmer than my daytime setting. When I go to bed, I push the night setting, 8hours later the setting is changed back to the daytime setting.
Easy to connect if your heat pump was hooked up using the standard wire color coding,.
We replaced our old slide thermostat within 30 minutes! This was a great investment, it is programable for sleep and while you are away. The backlight is easy to read and you can see the exact temperature! I would highly recommend replacing your old thermostat with this easy to read version.
I bought one of these to replace a bad thermostat; it worked so well, I replaced all in my home at a fraction of the cost the A/C repair folks would have charged. It was easy to install thanks to the original installer following the standard color code and the instruction provided.
Working within a budget doesn t mean you have to sacrifice quality. Perfect for multi-family housing developments or apartment complexes, PRO series thermostats feature the quality, reliability and performance that you can expect from Honeywell at a price that s just right.
Same functions as with the one I replaced. Was hoping to not have to change the mounting plate but this new version is somewhat different and you need to change over the mounting plate to the new one included with the unit.
Not a big deal. The 4 wires go to the same terminals identified by letters. Just take a picture of the old wiring before you switch so you keep track of what goes where. Arrived fast!.
Anyone wanting to swap their Rv or camper archaic thermostat for the 21st century I highly recommend this 10 minute cheap upgrade. I installed this in my 2008 Arctic fox 1150. The Pro 1000 takes two AAA batteries so no need to worry about it draining your camper just keep a few extra on hand for when those AAA get old.
Super easy install. I pulled the old one off the wall with the two philips head screws and then undid the red gray and black wire. I had a wire connector on my gray and black so I cut that off and striped the wires back a little.
The red wire goes into the R, the gray wire goes into W, and the black goes into the G. By hooking the black to the G it allows you to either have the basement fan in auto mode so it turns on when the furnace fan turns on or you can flip the fan switch to on and just the basement fan comes on.
This allows you to control the basement fan independently of the furnace. I really like that I can see the inside temperature now and set it to an accurate temperature setting. It’s also going to be nice having the screen back lit so that I can see it at night with out turning any lights on.
Emerson 4. 5 in. Display, Heat Pump (2H/1C) With Dual Fuel Option. Non- Programmable Digital Thermostat, Backlit Display, 24-Volt, System Switch-Heat, Off, Cool, Aux/Emer, Fan Switch-Auto, On, Keypad Lockout, Temperature Limits, Profile-Horizontal, Dual Power: Hardwire and/or Battery, Range 45-99°F.
Easy install to replace my antique thermostat. Fortunately, the color coding of the wires was the same as the new. I can now control my heating and cooling more accurately plus can do setbacks for nighttime operation.
I dispute whoever said they installed it in minutes. It doesn’t take all that long but installing it properly on the wall, hooking it up, running the tests, and setting all the functions to your needs, does take time!.
My previous thermostat was a honewell and it had no turn on or off adjustment. My AC would constantly cycle on and off all day and night. The on and off factory settings on the honeywell are entirely too close together.
This thermostat has several sensitivities you can set. My AC now stays on when it needs to run and when it turns off it’s off for a little while (not just the 5 minutes the honeywell would do). DEFINITELY well worth the money for this one.
White Rodgers 5-2 Day Programmable 1H/1C Thermostat 1F78-151 Before considering which thermostat to buy, please read our helpful Guide to Choosing the Right Thermostat. With a White Rodgers 70 Series thermostat, you can upgrade to digital accuracy and energy savings.
It’s new low-profile design covers the footprint of the four most common mechanical thermostats used today. So there’s no wall re-painting and no wall plates required. And, it’s battery-powered, making it easy to install and compatible with most heating and cooling systems.
The White Rodgers 70 Series thermostat is perfect for those who want a quick and easy digital upgrade.
Furnace fan was cycling on and off at random intervals, placing a strain on the blower. After checking out the system, my HVAC tech said it might be the thermostat (I had installed an old T87 unit some time ago.
) I asked him for suggestions then ordered this Emerson single-stage unit. It went in in a half-hour, and is easy to operate. I wasn’t able to run on fan-only without the fan cycling on/off until I installed the Emerson thermostat.
Very glad this unit is in. I am going to keep the house cooler in the warm weather, warmer in the cool weather and save a lot of money on my electric and gas bills.
Had an older White-Rodgers 1F80 series thermostat (circa 2005) and thought this was somewhat similar. I guess, however, this is the updated version. Although looks pretty well built and sturdy attached to wallboard wall, only minor issue is that enclosed instructions for wiring the single terminal block did not match the actual two terminal block layout on the thermostat itself.
In addition, the wire designation lettering on the thermostat was tiny, and the wire insertion points on each row, face each other, and are very close – just making the one-time installation more difficult than it should be – especially if you have hands larger than a child’s.
(That was why I gave it a four star rating. ) After the fact, went on-line to www. white-rodgers. com and found a link to the full (and accurate) eight page installation manual and user guide for 1F78 series thermostats.
(Saw that another reviewer mentioned the LED backlight wasn’t working – the accurate downloaded manual instructs you how to turn the backlight on and off. ) Nonetheless, with the unit now installed on my single-stage A/C system, appears to be working fine.
I just wana say how easy this thermostat is to install and program. I replaced a non programmable thermostat in my apartment with this one. I live in the Midwest and its get pretty cold. so I bought this little guy so I cant set it to turn on a few hours before I wake up to warm my apartment up.
and when I leave it will turn off. so I dont have to remember to lower the temp before I leave. the unit came with 2 screws, the plastic wall anchor thing and 2 batteries and instructions. I bough mine refurbished for $18 and there are no blemished or issues.
looks and works fine. I had the same exact model and brand but the basic one. so I took a pic of the wires and just used that to install the new one. Very straight forward and simple. programming took me less than 5 minutes.
I mean how easy was that!!! You program the weekday and the weekend separately. honestly I dont see why anyone wouldnt be happy with this product. I dont have any experience with wires or even hvac. just kill the power to your furnace and you should be safe.
honestly Im thinking the bad reviews are just people who are not so very smart.

Pro 3000 2H/1C Easy-to-read backlit display – easy to read in various lighting conditions. Shows both current and set temperatures at the same time. Precise comfort control (+/-1 F) – maintains consistent comfort to the highest level of accuracy.
I replaced a programmable heat pump thermostat with this because I hated the complexity of setting the programmable thermostat (And I am a retired electronic engineer!). This thermostat provides all the necessary settings and controls for a heat pump with auxiliary/emergency heating and has a digital temperature setting and readout.
Note that this says it is for professional installation only (if you screw up the wiring and setup you could potentially damage your system or the thermostat). But the installation instructions are clear and fairly easy to follow.
Just note that the included installation instructions cover more than one model thermostat and system type and have notes about the installation that need to be checked carefully for your given installation.
That said, the color codes are normal for most heat pump installations. If you are replacing an existing heat pump thermostat carefully note or photograph the previous hookup wiring (thermostat wire color codes to thermostat terminals) and refer to that information when hooking up this unit.
Most heat pumps use the “O” (orange) connection for the reversing valve which is on during cooling and off during heat. Apparently some use the “B” (blue) connection for the reversing valve which is on for heat and off for cooling.
This thermostat has both connections but you use only the one your system uses – This is noted in the thermostat installation instructions. Note that if you Google “Honeywell TH3210D Installation Manual” there is a.
pdf version available that only covers the TH3210D thermostat (this unit) which is easier to follow than the multiple version, multiple language instructions shipped with the thermostat. The good:Very easy to use once installed.
Temperature setting to within 1 degree F (can also be set up for Centigrade). Works perfectly for my heat pump. Could Use Improvement:Enclosed manual covers more than one product, a minor nuisance not a serious problem – But I deducted one star for this.
I replaced an identical thermostat with this one. The display was going out on the old one so all I had to do was replace the face and not the base. I actually bought the old one used at a thrift store years ago to replace an ancient mercury bulb type, so I don’t know how old it was.
But I’m hoping the fading display isn’t going to be an issue anytime soon. This thermostat controls a HVAC for spare bedrooms so I set it, and forget it- I love the simplicity. My main system is a smart thermostat, and I use that feature, but programming can get laborious twice a year at season’s change (so it’s not all that smart!).
When my heat pump stopped working correctly, I called a local repair service and they replaced my thermostat after repairing a short in the wiring. The Bryant thermostat they installed would not hold the temperature close enough to the set temperature, it ranged plus or minus 3 degrees from the set point.
I ordered this thermostat which is the exact same as the original and installed it and it holds the temperature within one degree of the set point during heating or cooling. I am a firm believer of Honeywell thermostats.

Wanted to upgrade to digital from my old discontinued analog dual mercury bulb 1F58-72 thermostat. This one was a suggested alternative on this site. My old thermo has both 0 and B terminals and both are utilized in my system wiring.
This one only has an O/B terminal with a switch to select O or B. Not compatible wiring wise and had to return at my cost. My rating only reflects the fact that this was the only suggested replacement for a 1F58-72 with this Company and won’t work as a suggested compatible replacement.
Exact replacement for my old Tstat with the exception that the control wires are secured a little different. A little bit more finiky to get the wires in place but a more positive system. My old Tstat worked but the temp could not be turned down.
Has this on the wall for two weeks now and it works in all modes. Same everything except wire hold down.
We have had this thermostat on our furnace for over 15 years. It started to act up when a battery went bad. We live in the north and wanted to make sure we had backup. Supply house delivered new one quickly.
Honeywell Programmable thermostat in white color can be horizontally mounted. It has heat current rating of 0. 02 – 1. 0 Amps and cool current rating of 0. 02 – 1. 0 Amps. Thermostat features multiple programming options that helps fit your lifestyle.
It incorporates dependable functioning since adaptive intelligent recovery feature ensures that chosen temperatures are reached by designated time. Thermostat has digital display screen that is backlit to make it easily readable.
Thermostat has heating temperature range of 40 to 90 deg F and cooling temperature range of 50 to 99 deg F.
This is the perfect air-conditioning thermostat. It is so simple to use and very accurate. It is based on a retro design of the Honeywell thermostat that was in my home as a child. But it has all new electronics with a digital temperature display.
It retains the old, tried and true, circular knob to change temperature. One click at a time as it rotates. I plan on buying five more of these to last the rest of my life. It is perfect in every way.
It is not programmable, which is a feature I have never used in past thermostats.
I needed a replacement cover. I already had this unit in place and it was difficult to get the cover off in order to replace the batteries. Don’t know why cover so hard to get off. Maybe it had just been a very long time.
However the cover hit the floor and that stuck the HEAT to the ON position. No getting off it. The button was shoved in and couldn’t be slid over or pulled out. So that meant controlling heat in winter by dropping/lowering the heat setting instead of doing ON/OFF.
Of course, with spring/summer approaching need to get to other cycle. Relieved I was able to locate a (used) unit off EBAY so I could replace the cover. Importantly the unit cover does communicate w the wired in backing.
So I didn’t have to replace that. Something else, the batteries were supposed to be low – to cause this problem to begin with – but I have a battery tester at home and it was showing strong batteries.
Just sayin’. From my former cover I knew (though my house is) Heat=Gas & A/C=Electric the inside setting is towards GAS since it’s an independent routing.
Purchased this to replace a faulty faceplate. Have had three of these units since doing a home remodel in 2009-2011. They work well and are easy to maintain. But, be sure to replace the AA batteries on a regular basis or there could be issues related to battery leakage.
as in my case! All in all, these were a welcome improvement to my residential needs. Trusty and easy to operate/program.
The thermostat for a heat pump with auxiliary heat should be set to the “aux” or “emergency heat” position when the outside temperature is below the point where the heat pump can no longer effectively heat the home.
This will cause the auxiliary heat to come on and supplement the heat coming from the heat pump.
