20 Best Tennis String For Spin And Power (2023 Updated)

I used to use luxilon alu 125 string and I switched to 4g from 2020. Actually I used both strings depending on opponent’s play style. 4g string has less power than Alu but more accurate and absorbed vibration and impact on my elbow that I had struggled due to tennis elbow.

After using 4g string with Wilson blade v7 (customized racquet), I never feel elbow pain. At last I found a perfect string for my injured elbow and shoulder. First time, you may feel like 4g makes your swing less powerful but you’ll be used to soon.

If you switch your swing angle, such as a blushing swing angle like modern style swing, 4g must be the perfect string for you.

I play tennis an average of an hour a week. I bought a Wilson BLX Steam 105S racket and these were the strings recommended on the side of the racket. The cost is a little hard to swallow, being 2-3 times the cost of what I normally pay for strings.

I have my own stringer and installed them at the high end of the string tension range. I do NOT recommend this as the racket was very hard to control at first. However, after the strings loosen up a bit, it plays beautifully.

Many people complain this racket eats strings pretty fast, but I’ve had the same set on for about 5 months with very little notching and still pretty good control with the racket. I bought these to replace the current set which should be changed out soon.

This time, I’m restringing at a lower tension and switching them out more often. If you string your own racket, I have to say that this is the most difficult string that I have worked with. It is incredibly stiff, has a very defined memory when bent, and stretches very little.

Not very fun to work with on my drop-weight stringer. All-in-all, if you need a string that has good movement within the bed, this is for you.

Strung at 5 lbs below recommended for the Wilson Four BLX. Worth every penny, That is why so many pros use this string! After reading many online and youtube reviews I made the purchase at SA. I also had it strung at the riverdale nj shop.

it took one day! How it plays:forehand and serves are right on! Great control and touch. When one has both they usually sacrifice power in their shots. I found this not to be true. I could send backhands down the alley with a great powerful topspin.

cross court back hand slices were spot on. In a nut shell the head heavy Four BLX made this 3. 5(avrage player) look like a super star among my peers. I got my racquet restrung by this new rough version of RPM Blast a few days ago and loving it so far after trying it out in a couple of hours of casual hit. I have played with the original RPM Blast for about a month and it was giving me a bit too much power on my shots though I liked the muted feeling and got the hang of it soon.

But as far as I can tell after having a hit with this rough ver. today, I’m pretty sure that I prefer the new one to the old one. RPM Blast rough is definitely a bit less powered and slightly stiffer than the original one, so you’ll get much more control out of it instead.

They both have similar muted feeling when you hit, but the Rough one gives you more sticky feeling which helps adding spin while the Original one gives you more bity feeling for spin. I have had Luxilon 4G on my racquet before and didn’t like it because my shots couldn’t get enough power though it gave me absolute control.

(*Probably because I restrung it by 58/56 on my Prestige Mid as usual. Should have lowered the tension now that I think about it. ) Anyway, I’ll say this RPM Blast Rough would be something between the original RPM Blast and Luxilon 4G.

So if you like the original one and are looking to get even more spin by switching to the Rough ver, I wouldn’t do that. Because you should probably not take it as the same series of strings, it’s definitely another kind of string.

If you’ve been wanting RPM Blast to lower the power and give you more control, you would probably love it, give it a try!!:D.

I purchased two sets, one in black and one in red. The black is awesome, great grip and feel. The red seems to be a different string. Both to the tough and sight. My stringer commented that the difference in straining the racket was also very noticeable.

Tried out this string after reading the reviews. It has a nice “pop” and feel. I read some review comments that some found it difficult to control strokes with this but in my experience it has improved my control and precision.

I play with the Yonex Vcore 98, strung with RPM Blast Rough , 16g at tension 55. So far very happy.

I am an intermediate player who can now feel the difference in better rackets and strings. After first playing a 1st Gen Pure Strike with XCel strings, I demoed a 3rd Gen Pure Strike with XCel strings.

I noticed more weight in the handle on the 3rd Gen and it felt more solid. Then I bought a 3rd Gen and put the natural gut strings on the mains and XLU Power on the crosses. That racket and those strings made a world of difference in my game of placement and ease of a power serve.

It was very noticeable. I say you need the right racket AND strings now. Mains @ 54, Crosses @ 50. Works for me.

I LOVE THIS STRING. Granted I go back and forth between this and 4G instead of ALU Power. However, I love the feel of this string and it rewards me if I hit right. I string my racquet very tight, and this string holds up beautifully.

It gives me great control and power. If you want a hybrid setup or new strings at all this is a must have. The ALU Power is “rough” which gives you more bite on the ball. I also have the Babolat gut and RPM blast in a racquet.

That is a great string combo, but i prefer this one more because of the power it gives me.

Used this string at 57lbs in my ProKennex Ki Q+ Tour Pro (325). It provides solid spin and plenty of power. I think I might actually increase the tension next time to decrease the power output. Tension maintenance was also very good in my experience.

The yellow string also looks great in my opinion.

Using less, a lot less, effort than my previous strings! WAAAAAY more control that you can hear & feel! My game has greatly improved from the 1st time I played just by upgrading to these low priced/high quality strings.

yours will too! Also the shock absorption is a helpful feature I found with these strings which allowed my muscles and joints to have less discomfort after the sets as well as I was able to play longer, using less energy and we WON!.

I recently purchased Babolat Pro Hurricane and N. VY sets separately in order to compose my own hybrid combo. The octagonal Pro Hurricane mains give me power and lots of noticeable spin increase from the traditional round Hurricane and the N.

VY provides the comfort, feel and durability. This combo is awesome. Opponents are commenting on excessive spin along with the ongoing frustrations around lefty voodoo.

Stronger than many strings. Good for the heavy hitter getting back into the game and needs longer lasting set of strings.

As with all strings, they suit certain players and specific rackets. I have this string on a 2016 Pure Aero and boy does it suit the racket. Why? Every player is looking for that perfect balance between power and control.

For the Pure Aero this string gives it to you. Lastly, everything I said here applies to a players with aggressive swing styles, hitting big spin. Hence the name of the string RPM Blast!.

I switched to this (17, 58lbs) on my AeroPro Drive a bit under two years ago from Pro Hurricane and have not looked back (however, I am now using 17 on crosses, 16 on mains, 56lbs). It took a little bit of getting used to as it was more comfortable to play with, but also more dead.

Since switching, my forehand has taken on a more vertical motion in general for head high (~5’9″-6’0″) bouncing groundstrokes, and to contrast it, I have recently acquired a flat, nearly no spin forehand.

The RPM complements both shots well, aiding particularly in the generation of topspin. In general though, I think the string doesn’t have a huge amount of natural pop on flatter shots. I say natural pop, because you can still generate a LOT of pace on a flat shot, but the string doesn’t lend itself to doing so as much as other strings might.

Its pace comes largely from the generation of spin. I’ve found, however, that it isn’t the most backhand slice friendly string: a shot I used to employ very often. I assume that the increased spin, the ball comes off the strings in a slightly more floaty manner, which can be advantageous, though for me is generally not.

This is also likely due to the fact that my backhand slice involves a very heavy chop, so for those of you with a flatter, more well guided slice, this may well be a non-issue. I typically don’t go out of my way to use drop shots or volleys, so this isn’t a huge problem for me, but because of the relatively dead feel of the string, drop shots are somewhat harder to pull off well (but not at all unachievable), and power on volleys can suffer heavily on occasion.

Ever since this product has come onto the market, I have been using it. My recommendation is for a full set if you are after power and durability. It imparts spin and offers good power with a good feel.

A hybrid with a soft string is also recommended for senior and lady players. In this case it gives good control with added power. String changes would be done annually or six months. A good club player who are not string breakers would benefit from this hybrid set.

I am a 4. 0 player and I have a son and daughter who play high school tennis. I have played with Prince Topspin and other spin strings for along time. Bing Banger ALU Power Rough by Luxilon is the best in ball controll / spin that I have found.

I first tried it in hybrid with Wilson Natural Gut. the Roger Federer strings. This combination had a bit more feel that the Luxilon alone but the natural gut was not as durable and is much more expensive.

Compared to Prince Top Spin and others this Luxilon is more expensive however, this Luxilon string is much more durable. Most stings that provide durability give up feel but that is not the case with this string.

Big Banger ALU Power Rough 16L is the best sting with excellent spin, excellent feel, and good durablility.

I was worried that this string would be too hard on the arm. As a precaution, I used these only on the mains, and used a softer string on the crosses. Worked great. Arms feels fine!

Used this string back in the day with full setup. Never let me down. Nice on the arm. Plenty of power with control. Go back to it in a hybrid set up. Putting it the crosses with poly in mains, when arm a bit fatigued with all poly regular setup.

As a certified racquet stringer I have been stringing my own racquets with Gamma Gut Pro 17g for over 20 years. I mainly play on clay courts, rarely break strings and never had any elbow injuries. This synthetic is forgiving, flexible and plays almost like gut.

Been using tnt2 for a few years, back when it was just tnt. Good solid core multi for the price. Nice power, good touch,good control, soft on your arm and decent spin for a multi. Started using it when i had some arm issues.

Good transition string coming out of poly. Solid core gives it a crisp playability, so its not “to” soft or springy like some multis. i get really good durability out of the 16ga. I string one racquet with poly which I play with 75% of the time, and 16ga tnt2 in the my other racquet for when I need a little more zip on the ball.

Somehow these strings have both unbelievable control and power on hard fast swings and then a soft touch and amazing feedback on volleys and touch drops too, magic. Super durable, great feel, loads of spin.

Waxy and stretchyfor a poly when stringing so clean your tools before starting. Tried a lot of strings in the past two years, these are my favorite hands down. Strung at 52 lbs on Prince Tour 100T. 1.

Lovely soft poly, really good playability. Drops tension fairly quickly and durability isnt great but thats to be expected with soft polys. Ive tried hundreds and this is one of my favourites.

There is nothing better than gut, and VS is the best. There are a few more choices now, all looking like, stringing like, and almost playing like, but nothing beats the best. The only con is durability, which is why you should protect the most expensive gut on the market by using “string-a-lings”, most especially if using 17, or 18 gauge string.

Hybrid stringing is the big thing now, so indeed use VS for the Mains, not the crosses. Almost any string will perform better with VS as the Main string. If it’s good enough for Federer, should be a good choice for anyone else.

Fantastic string. I used it in a hybrid set-up for two racquets. One for the mains and crosses for the other. It performed excellently both ways. I think I would use it only as a cross in the future since it really seems to extend the performance of poly mains, even after they should be ‘dead”.

This is my favorite tennis string. It is expensive, there’s no hiding from it, however, it offers the best combination of feel, control, power and comfort of any string or hybrid combo that I’ve tried.

It allows me to play through occasional bouts of tennis elbow without the condition worsening, and I know I experience this less frequently playing with natural gut from past experiences playing with polys and hybrids.

I prefer the 15L diameter due to its better durability than the thinner options. I personally do not notice any significant lessening of power potential or spin when using 15L vs. 17, for example. If you can afford it, buy it.

It’s important enough to me, with as frequently as I play, that I sacrifice other things to ensure I can keep a full bed of this string in my racquets.

Put it in my Yonex VCore 2022. 16L. Good co-poly option. Soft enough to not cause but arm aches/problems, but firm enough to give you plenty of feedback, top spin, and a little extra power/pop. I strung at 51/49.

Love it so far. Would recommend it to anyone looking for a string that lets you swing-away a little bit more, but gives good feedback. I’m 4. 0 player who plays 3 times per week.

Tried it on Yonex Vcore 330 H and at 46 lbs. What an amazing combination this turned out be! The string has amazing spin and bite with amazing feel. Tension maintenance is also great. You need to adjust the power level you need by playing around with the tension.

I used 46lbs and works perfectly for me.

My daughter is super happy with the string and the way it plays. Feels lively and she feels she is getting more pop and I’m happy because it’s more durable than her other strings.

I’ve had at least 5-6 different sets of the Natural Gut Luxilon. I’ve tried Head and Babolat strings before. No comparison whatsoever. I’m a 3. 5 almost a 4. 0 player. Play a lot of top spin and strong serves.

After a run in with Tennis elbow a year ago, I changed to Nat Gut and lowered my string tension to 48 lbs. Magic! Tennis elbow gone. But the feel of my stroke and my Racquet (Head Prestige) is nothing short of amazing.

Yes, $50 for strings is not cheap. But how important is your tennis elbow and the amazing feeling you have after striking the ball so good constantly? Exactly. Very much worth it. Luxilon Nat Gut is THE string out there until I experience otherwise.

I tried this new string on two of my racquets and was totally excited about the way they played. My wife even tried my new strings and we strung her racquet with the same Luxilon element. I have been using NXT with good results except for durability.

This string has great playability. The BHR offers great spin and a good bite on the ball. The feel isnt the softest but it does not hurt the arm. The only disappointment is the longevity of the string.

Ive been stringing frames for 13 years and these break the most out of all the polys Ive played with. It is the 16 gauge and it usually only last 3-4 hours of hitting max. At first I thought I was doing something wrong but Ive had it strung by different people differen machines all over the place.

I can compare these to luxilon and babolat polys which last only a bit longer but at that point the strings feel dead and have a trampoline like effect and still snap. Overall not bad for the price.

Using the Big Hitter Blue strings for mains and a synthetic gut for crosses. Exceptional Feel for a poly string. The color reminds me of my younger years when I used to use a string called Blue Star.

I have only played an hour with these strings but on a ball machine, durability good so far, jury still out.

I’ve been testing out different hybrids in my racket. I play with a Pro Staff Classic 6. 1. I strung this in the cross at 58 lbs. with Kirschbaum Proline Evolution, both are 17 gauge. I expected this string, like other multifilaments, to start fraying quickly, but, no fray, whatsoever.

You will lose tension on this string before it frays. Speaking of tension, it holds it pretty well. It will stay playable for longer than you expect.

Nice durability too. Maybe one very little drawback : you have (often) to refix in place the center vertical strings after having imparted heavy slice or heavy top spin. It’s worth a try !.

Strung this on my racquet and my friend’s. She loves it and hits very flat shots while I hit with spin. It adds a good amount of kick to the ball. Definitely is too powerful and lively for me, so I will probably try this in a hybrid set up next time or I would crank up the tension.

My friend on the other hand found more control than she did with her other strings. At this price, this is a quality string and offers some pretty colors.
