20 Best Tear Stain Remover For Shih Tzu (2023 Updated)

This is a very good company and they have good products for humans and pets. My dog, unfortunately, happens to have very dry sensitive itchy skin. Especially during flea season. Just one flea bite and it’s off to the races.

She has severe “flea bites venom” allergy. So flea season I have to be hyper vigilant with everything from yard, home, pet flea and tick treatment, and grooming. I purchased this one day because I know that oatmeal is very soothing to itchy dry skin.

I have used regular oatmeal as a paste and as a bath/rinse with very good results. This shampoo smells good, it was a little higher priced but I was OK as long as the results were equal to the price point.

Sadly, I was not impressed. In this case it was the name brand reputation was bigger than the results. while it did clean her fur thoroughly and nicely , she was scratching a lot within the first few hours after her bath.

And she was properly rinsed. I spend triple the time rinsing.  I put her back in the shower and rinsed her with the homemade oatmeal bath that I use. Regular old-school oatmeal, mixed with water, and just use it as a soak/rinse.

I also put in a few drops of high-quality Teatree oil, the mother of apple cider vinegar, and a cup of chamomile tea. that’s my homemade treatment for itchy sensitive skin this shampoo, for the price, did not meet my expectations.

I have gotten similar if not better results from shampoos that were 1 to 5 dollars a bottle. Keep in mind this is just my opinion and my results on my dog. If you are using it for a regular shampoo and not expecting treatment for itchy red skin, I believe you will be satisfied.

We have an English bulldog who has a white face & he got an eye infection which caused excessive tearing and causing sore skin and tear stains. The powder has worked amazingly in just one week making the skin less sore, and is slowly making the stains go.

Used in conjunction with the tear stain liquid. Will definitely continue to use to keep the stains at bay.

This product is amazing! I have a beautiful toy poodle and have tried numerous products to get rid of tear stains, but this is the only one I have found that works. All you need is a little patience.

And with careful trimming away of old stained hair you are left with beautiful hair that is not staining. Excellent product and will continue to use.

My cat’s eyes have less tear stain now, it is a big improvement in just 5 days! This works together with the eye envy solution. But using this powder the first day already shows changes to his eyes they look much more healthier and less irritated from the dust.

With that being said this is my review and experience with this product. Arrived on time from Amazon very well packaged, including bubble wrap to ensure it did not leak during shipment. The instructions were very clear and easy to follow.

It does have a scent that seemed quite strong. As a pet owner that concerned me, so as strange as this may sound, I tried the product on myself first. After using it I felt confident that it would not burn my small dog.

My dog is very trusting she let me use this product on her without any fuss. The only time she really got was hearing the paper towel Crinkle. I watched it on for several minutes and the product did not seem to adversely affect her in anyway.

I have use this product for a couple days now and I am quite happy with that. Before receiving this product my other dog would lick the smaller dog that had the tear stain issues. So now she doesn’t have to anymore.

Overall I really like this product and I’m very happy and I received great customer service via communications throughout my ordering and delivery process.

I used this product at home on my cat. She always seems to have tear stains that I have been unable to get rid of completely. After two uses of this product we are seeing major improvements. Her eyes don’t look like they are sore anymore.

I would recommend this product to anyone who needs to get rid of tear stains. Our Annabel is grateful. I did only give this product four stars because it took a few treatments to get to this point.

I’ve only used the product about 4 times so far. It has a better consistency than just using water for cleaning around the eyes. My furry terrier mix has crust around her eyes. I think it will be an ongoing process to clean the area every day to soften the crust.

I doubt it will ever disappear completely. My Chihuahua mix just has tear stains, no crust, which the product lessens. I doubt they will completely disappear. I’ll continue to use the product, since it does seem to help, even if on a temporary basis.

Recently we purchased Angels Eyes for our 15 year old Yorkie-Poo, Cisco. He has had weepy eyes his whole life but they were always cleaned/licked by our 17 year old Yorkie, Browser. Devastatingly Browers recently passed.

We didn’t realize how wonderful it was for him to take care of Cisco’s eye drips. We tried to clean them for him with a warm cloth but we were having to do this 4-5 times a day. We went online and foundAngels’ Eyes.

Within 2 days Cisco’s eye drips are 90% better. He is not getting crusty around his eyes either. Thank you so much for such a wonderful product!.

This DOES help prevent tear stains. It would be even better if it still contained the tiny amount of antibiotic, tylosin tartrate that it used to contain. That version of Angel Eyes worked superbly. This version works well on tear stains, but not as well or equally as well, as the former product with that ingredient.

However, the FDA forbade the use of that extra (antibiotic) ingredient, without a prescription. I find I need to use the Angel Eyes on a regular basis, since I cannot determine ALL of what my dog has allergies to.

We have gone to a home-made diet & eliminated a number of things the vet found (through testing) were problematic. As far as I can tell, there is no down-side to the long term Angel Eyes use. Please work with your vet to make sure your dog does not have ANY EYE INJURIES OR EXTRA EYE LASHES THAT MIGHT TURN INWARD & CAUSE TEARING, Angel Eyes is really best for tearing = caused by allergies (IMHO).

My 1 year old cavalier has had weepy eyes since she was a little pup. We started using this to prevent the yeasty smell that often occurs with dogs with teary eyes. I stopped using it during a long road trip we took a couple of months ago.

What a mistake. Her eyes STINK! I’m restarting it tonight. I can’t comment on the effectiveness against tear stains, because my dog has red fur around her eyes and the top of her muzzle, but I highly recommend this to prevent the proliferation of yeast around weepy eyes.

The Eye Envy liquid works better on my dog’s tear stain better than anything else I have tried. It works better with the Eye Envy powder. But I have received two different bottles of the liquid. One bottle is white and the other one is brown.

The white bottle does not have a little seal in the cap to keep it from leaking & spilling out if it turned over. I like the brown bottle better because it has a little spout which helps prevent spilling.

This is working brilliantly for my white 10mth old Maltipoo’s eyes. Used in conjunction with the powder UK the difference it’s making in only a week is amazing! This is the only thing that’s worked. Impressive!.

Eye Envy is the BEST PRODUCT for removing tear stains available. My white toy poodle had very bad staining. I tried everything out there and then I heard about Eye Envy. Paris loves me to put the cool liquid on her eyes and then I use the white powder and pat that on and just leave it on.

You have to do this faithfully. I do it once a day because It keeps his face so clean and because he really likes it! The company’s shampoo is also a great product. Honestly, this product really works.

It is worth every penny! When you stop to think about all the products you keep trying and none work, you are paying more for no results! I don’t work for this company and I am not related to anyone there just in case it sounds like advertising.

I tried this remover but it does not clear the area on first try you have to really scrub and you should not have to. It should come off very easy. will not buy again. I need something that will take off immediate.

My dog has terrible eye problems with mucus constantly building up in his eyes. For years I have had to cleanse his eyes and then hold a soft warm rag over them to clean them out. Needless to say, he does not enjoy this.

Then there was still build up again by that evening. I tried this product and not only does he smell good, it works great. I put it around his eyes in the morning and he is junk free all day. Even when the mucus starts forming in his eyes during the day it keeps his coat free from the build-up.

I love this product.

I have 2 old dogs with protruding eyes causing much tearing. The tears dry and become crusty in the hair beneath the eyes. This is uncomfortable for the dogs. I soak a cotton ball with this product and pat under the eyes.

After a few minutes the crusty mess dissolves and can be removed with dry tissue or cotton balls. This stain remover does what I need. It also seems to remove some of the stains. Most importantly, I have not noticed any adverse side effects or eye irritation.

I gave this product a shot going in, not expecting much! I’ve used tons of wrinkle stain products with absolutely 0 result. This stuff is actually lightening the stains on my French Bulldogs’!! It hasn’t completely removed them but the stains are much lighter! This is the first product ever for tear stains I’ve purchased more than once!!.

I have a rescue puppy. She has had eye boogers since I’ve had her. They stared getting worse. They were green and hard. It was so bad that she would get them even though she wasn’t sleeping. I was having to remove eye boogers every hour on the hour.

Bottle was leaking when it arrived and some of the product had spilled inside the package. Having said that, the bottle stated to keep the product out of the eyes. The tear stains are around the eyes and I found it concerning that a facial wash for tear stains around the eye area would have that type of warning.

Did not use the product for fear that it might accidentally get into her eyes and also was disturbed that the bottle arrived without a tamper proof seal on the bottle that caused it to leak.

My Bostie’s white fur was heavily stained and I was worried there wasn’t much I could do. At only 12 weeks old, I figured she would just always have this discoloration. She has ceramic bowls not steel.

She drinks purified water. She is on a top of the market food. Warm water wiping on the area daily didn’t work. I was also afraid the area would become agitated from scrubbing that frequently. Her eyes were at risk with peroxide and I wasn’t comfortable trying to keep it from her eyes and at the same time getting it into all her wrinkles.

This is super easy to use and super easy to wash off. Did not stain my puppies fur blue. Did not irritate my 3 month old puppies eyes. Took 90% of the dark bags/dark stains under my puppies eyes off instantly.

This product is the only product you need to buy. I only used a pinky size drop on each eye rubbed it in deep to the skin. Washed it off with water using my hand and dried her with a wash cloth. Super easy.

Now she looks brand new and not like she is ill. The dark under her eyes looked so sickly and now she looks pretty again. It did not bother her at all. This bottle should last for a very long time, unless your using it for bigger areas.

I highly recommend this product from one pet owner to the next. I am not getting nothing out of this review other than helping you choose the best product that I have came across and this product fits in to my A++++++ category.

The only one annoing point of this product is powdered substance, which is difficult to evenly spread on the stained fur. Since dog isnt quietly waithing for your treatment. Secondly, manuractor practice deceptive tricks – selling only half full powder in big boxes.

So, we still have a lot of liquid and application pads, but, no powder.

This works a treat on my exotic shorthair’s eyes. Being a brachycephalic breed it really makes them so much easier to keep clean!

Ziva, a long stock German Shepherd Dog, requires a conditioner for her coarse dense fur on her hind legs/ butt area. I use a generous amount and work into her fur to detangle and condition both fur and skin w/ a rubber brush, leave on for 10 minutes before rinsing.

This conditioner is perfect, as it has limited ingredients, a light pleasant fresh scent, and rinses out well. Perfect for a pet with sensitive skin. Also, does not contain silicone or derivatives of – there are many hidden in ingredient lists – which leave an unhealthy residue on skin & fur/hair & inhibits absorption of natural oils.

Silicone, and derivatives of, are used in many human and pet grooming products to give illusion of healthy hair/fur and provides slip for easier detangling at the expense of residue build up on skin & hair/fur & attracting dirt.

If absolutely must use silicone derived ingredients, ensure type is water soluble. IMO using grooming products w/ silicone should be avoided in almost all circumstances. It is disheartening that so many grooming products designed for pets include silicone derivatives, including sensitive skin marketed products.

I clean my Coton’s eyes everyday using Eye Envy liquid first and the apply the powder. I’ve been using it for a week now and see results. The stains are almost gone. I think that the powder must dry up the moisture left by the liquid.

I am very pleased with this product and highly recommend it.

I’d seen these in my vet’s office before purchasing at Chewy, so I was hopeful they were more effective than other options. I went through 2 packs, as the instructions said it could take 60 days to take effect.

However, there has been virtually no difference in my pup’s red staining, or amount of tears/wetness/goopy eye discharge. They get an extra star because at least he seemed to enjoy them as a treat.

I have tried a few different supplements for fighting my dog’s tear stains, and although this is not the most effective it is the best option for the price. The ones my vet offers seem to work a bit better, but they are significantly more expensive.

That being said, I have tried other over the counter brands and none of them have worked as well as this one, so it’s the winner! My dog still has some discoloration/staining around the corner of her eye, but it’s far more manageable and her eyes are much less goopy after adding these to her diet.

I have a poodle mix who was getting badly stained, pink paws and all. I started him on it right after his last grooming, which was 3-4 weeks ago now. Some staining under his eyes is still happening, but it’s a fraction of what he was getting.

I have used this product for years and love it. I have always purchased it at dog shows, but with Covid, not as many shows. I was happy to see that Chewy carried it. Ordered a small bottle to make sure it was the same product.

Fast shipping, but it had leaked and soaked through the bottom of the box. Called Chewy and they were great and replaced it. So, I went to purchase again and was shocked, in a week or less, they had doubled the price.

So, know very expensive. Still a good product though. Would love to see the price come down.

This serum is just like Biosilk serum for humans (even smells just like it). A little goes a long way so I’m glad that for the price that it’s going to last a long time. I was looking for a product that would help make my poodle’s hair feel extra soft.

I’d bought several moisturizing, dentangling and shine sprays for dogs but none really made his hair feel silky soft. This product does just that and it’s not oily or greasy even when applying on multiple days! I only give my poodle a bath about once a month and this product really helps to keep his hair feeling soft between his conditioner application on bath days.

I have no problem with the scent (but I’m not someone sensitive to fragrances).

This stuff is inordinately expensive. Not sure if that’s the result of Coronavirus or if it was always this expensive but I love it regardless. I was given a couple 2-ounce samples of it with something I bought once and just fell in love with it as an overall product.

I have a grooming business. I like to use it after baths so dogs are sent home smelling lovely. I also think it does a great job of silkening up the fur.

I have tried several products that claim to improve tear stains on dogs. Have found most don’t work. A read that boric acid is an ingredient that works but not many products have that listed in their ingredients.

Stop problem eye cleaner contains some boric acid so wanted to give it a try. It has made a noticeable difference on the tear stains on my white poodles eyes. I will be ordering again.

I have a daschund who in her old age has gotten more eye drainage in the corners of her eyes and it drains out and leaves a hard crusty material in the hair by her eye. It really grosses me out but I knew I needed something to help break it free.

This eye cleaner works really well with loosening it up so I can easily wipe it away. It smells descent and I like that it has some sort of infection control because you always have to be careful when dealing with eyes.

Worth the money.

I have a sheepadoodle puppy who has gross eye crusties and tears. I poured some of this on the cloth eye pads I have and rubbed his eyes quick and he didn’t mind. He let me and I think he liked it because he didn’t fight me afterwards.

It cleaned them but I did have to do the next day. Great for when they are bad or if your dog seems bothered by it. My dog I think has allergies and this has been a great way to clean them gently.

Yes 3x daily for first week and saw a difference. I will now use 2x weekly as directed and hope this will keep the tear stains at bay. I feel its good value for money compared to other more expensive products Ive used and never worked.

I would have given 5 stars except theres a bit of an odour On my dogs face after use.

I don’t like to leave bad reviews but I used this product several times to make sure it really didn’t work well. I used a 2 just because I felt bad about a 1 as there was some movement of the tear stains.

Perhaps if you used it as suggested for “stubborn stains apply 3 times daily for at least a week” it would work, but my dog doesn’t like even one time. I usually have to apply the product I was using several times during a cleaning but then it is done.

I’ve used this product many times and it works really well on my shihpoo, s tear stained eyes, slightly more expensive than buying from a pet shop , but more convenient for me to have it delivered.

I just received my order today. Am wondering if it will even work as none of the ingredients listed on the website match the ones listed on the bottle I received. No lemongrass oil. No Lavender oil. No garlic extract.

No Tea tree oil. No Hydrogen Peroxide. I purchased this item due to the ingredients I thought it had.

This is the second Tear Stain Remover I have tried on my pup. I’m just beginning to think that his tear stains will never go away completely so his face is beautifully white like it should be. I honestly don’t think it’s the products fault, he just tears up a LOT right now, I think due to the heat of summer and he literally sweats (as I’m sure other English Bulldogs do?).

Before applying this tear stain remover I washed my dogs face and let it dry thoroughly. He really likes getting his face washed, so that wasn’t a problem at all. After his face was dry I grabbed some cotton balls and put some of this stuff on them so he couldn’t see the bottle.

He didn’t like the last product I tried on his face and when he saw that bottle (which looks almost like this one), he booked it to the other room. The cotton ball helped a lot, because he had no clue what was coming! I rubbed this along his dark tear lines (his left eye is always worse than the right), pulling in the direction away from his eyes.

He didn’t seem to like this formula any more or less than the last product I tried. I did notice some changes, and after a week his tear lines were a lot lighter, just not all the way gone like I would really like.

I took a little more than two weeks to review this product because I really wanted to give it a good run before deciding it was for us or not. I’ll have to say that I do like this product, it gave great results.

I think during the winter when he is less sweaty (does your dog sweat too or is mine just weird?), that the results might be a lot better. I’m going to continue using this, regardless of the fact that my dog’s tear stains haven’t fully gone away yet, because I have hope that they will.

Cleans the pet’s eyes well especially when used once or twice a day, tho doesn’t do much beyond that it’s still just what I was hoping for

I use this all the time. Superb for getting rid of the tear stains on my Bichon Frise. Tried many others until I found this one. It is now a regular purchase.

Simple review. It doesn’t work. And after speaking with friends I’m not the only person who is disappointed. Expensive too.
