There are a few things to consider when choosing a sunscreen for acne-prone skin. A sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher is recommended. A water-resistant sunscreen is also a good option. A sunscreen that is non-comedogenic, oil-free, and fragrance-free is less likely to clog pores and cause breakouts.

I recently received a tube of Clear Skin SPF 30 complimentary from Proactive in exchange for my honest review, and I gotta say it is refreshing to find a sunblock that actively prevents acne breakouts, when most cause them I have a very fair complexion and burn extremely easily, so a high spf is a must for me.
But, most of them are SO thick and greasy – not this one! Its a very silky, light cream, with hardly any fragrance at all. I would definitely buy this again!.

i used to use this product 4 years ago and it always complimented my skin. it’s nice to see it still does! it’s not cakey and it’s moisturizing which is good because i have oily skin so i tend to cake up with too many products.
for a while i used the bliss block spf sunscreen because it’s cheaper and the ingredients are good, but i tended to cake up a lot and it felt too matte and patchy on my skin. this spf moisturizer is absolutely amazing ! please if you’re hesitating on buying it just do it! although it’s expensive i think this is the only spf moisturizer that suits my oily/acne prone skin well.
one thing is,i wish the bottle got all of the product out. in the end you might have to break the bottle open to finish the whole product. so besides the price and the tubing, this is 100% the best spf moisturizer on the market.
I was looking for a mineral sunblock with a bit more SPF and found this. I read a lot of the reviews and it had such great reviews I had to try it. First, the color was perfect for me. I’m a light to medium skin tone and it blended perfectly.
I noticed it does rub off on my mask when I don’t put makeup over it but I think that is with any skin product that needs to be reapplied. I have combo skin and sometimes I feel a bit dry on certain parts of my face but I’ll mist my face with something refreshing to help.
This didn’t leave a white film like other mineral sunblocks I have. I finally got thru the entire bottle and I love that at the end you know you got all the product out. No squishing the bottle, the little pump tells you when it’s gone!.
EltaMD UV Sheer Broad-Spectrum SPF 50 face sunscreen provides excellent sun protection against UVA (ageing) and UVB (burning) rays. It is water-resistant (80 minutes) and sweat-resistant. When applied, it goes through a water break, creating a sheen-like look at first. It then immediately absorbs into the skin, leaving a matte finish and helping to even skin tone. The sheer and fluid formula is hydrating yet not greasy and helps to calm heated/red skin.
Antioxidant protection combats skin-ageing radicals associated with ultraviolet (UV), infrared radiation (IR) and offers high-energy visible (HEV) light protection. UV Sheer does not require a special cleanser and can be easily removed by regular facial wash.
The formula is dye-free, fragrance-free, oil-free, paraben-free and alcohol-free. EltaMD Skin Care is committed to helping you have great skin for life. Our company has developed sunscreen, skin care products and wound healing products trusted by physicians for more than 25 years.
I and my kids have worn this sunblock on our face under every condition (city, ski, beach) for probs the last 10 years. I’ve tried every expensive to cheap non-comedogenic brand and this is the ONLY one that BLOCKS the sun AND doesn’t create more than the usual amount of zits for myself and my 3 kids.
I’m writing this (usually too selfish and lazy to write reviews) because my son bought some new HERO brand sunblock he saw from an “influencer” on Tik Tok and preceded to wear it last weekend and he got FRIED! I tried to explain to him that although his TikToker may recommend they #1 are likely not as smart as me and #2 have not sacrificed their skin for their child and tried 50ish face sunblocks to see if cause zits.
3 Kids details: The non-listener Boy/17 ON ACCUTANE (yes I know more photosensitive but still most def should not be getting burned while wearing a “sunblock” for 2 hours walking around. and I know this because my other son now 21 was also on Accutane when 16 and wore this Elta brand and never got burned.
current Skin type: Now super dry, inflamed and a mix of underground and white head zits. Girl 20 Gets zits frequently both white head and underground. Pretty sure her zit sitch is a combo of eating and hormones.
skin type: semi-sensitive and on the dry side. Boy 21 overall picture perfect skin. maybe gets a couple of zits a month. (he’s the one that was on Accutane at age 16) Skin type: not sensitive and on the dry side.
Me 51: get an underground zit once a month even though I don’t get my period anymore! Skin Type: Normal to dry. My routine: twice a day and every day I use a French brand (not sold here) moisturizing lactic acid toner, if dry I’ll put a cream on, and then I use this sunblock.
oh and. 5% prescription Retin A gel when I remember, which is like 5 times a month. I realize we all have different skin types so please don’t blame me if you get zits. but if you do I suggest you look into other possible reasons why you got them.
I think most of us usually blame what we put ON our face. which yes is often justified but in my opinion mostly appropriate for immediate reaction situations. and for the non-immediate reactions (especially where zits are concerned) it really does make sense to consider some internal factors as well.
I’m going to try and be less selfish and write more reviews cause I seriously have tried almost every brand and product under the sun. Peace out.

This is the best mineral sunscreen, daily moisturizer I have ever used. I have used this for over 7 years. My local stores dont always have it in stock, so I had to try different products- they all weren’t as good as this one- they either didnt sufficiently moisturize or the cast was too white.
This product is perfection for me. Now, only one Walgreens near me stocks this item, and it sells out quickly. Thank goodness I thought to come directly to Neutrogena’s site to see if I could order, and I will be doing that from now on.
PLEASE do not discontinue this product. It has been a skincare must for me- even my dermatologist said how good this has protected my face and neck. I use it every single day.
I’ve been using Healthy Defense daily moisturizer pure screen spf 50 for more than a decade and I hope that stores will have it back in stock soon. I consider this product indispensable to my daily skincare routine.
I have very fair skin and appreciate the very white lotion which blends in perfectly with my skin tone. In fact, it helps with any reddish rosacea symptoms that occasionally occur and doesn’t cause any chemical reactions.
It is the perfect mineral moisturizing sunscreen. Please, Please restock soon!.
I used this product and had a horrible allergic reaction. My eye lids swelled, my throat and chest blistered with a stinging red rash, and I was not out in the sun other than to walk my dog. After researching, I had all the symptoms that tell you to see a doctor immediately.
Wish I had because it took me a week of Benadryl (both internal and lotion), extreme discomfort, Cortisol ointment, and it’s just now at the point that I’m not uncomfortable. Rash on neck and chest still visible.
If you use this product and develop a rash, immediately call your doctor and avoid losing a week of your life!.

I was initially drawn to this sunscreen because it came from Farmacy and all their products have been hits for me. Additionally it’s been difficult looking for a clean sunscreen so this was an added plus for me when this product launched.
Some positives- it doesn’t have the sunscreen smell which was great that I didn’t have to smell that all day. It also didn’t feel greasy or drying on my skin and didn’t break me out. Negatives- it pills if you apply makeup on top of it unless you apply your makeup veryyyy carefully, in which case it still pills but less than usual.
However if you take a big brush the pilling is removed easily. It also has a bit of a white cast if you were to wear it on its own. I mixed the Drunk Elephant bronzing drops with my moisturizer then applied this sunscreen on top and the bronzy glow I had a bit of a whiteish off purple tint? Overall it’s an okay sunscreen, I’ll continue to use it to finish off the bottle but would probably look for another sunscreen once this one runs out.
I like this sunscreen and the biosannce sunscreen. I got this because the biosannce has been out of stock for a while now. I am very pleased though. I am a darker/tan Filipina and I put on sunscreen religiously everyday.
I prefer to wear a mineral sunscreen and this one is a good pick. It pills a tiny bit but you can easily use a brush to brush it off. You have to rub all areas of ur face to ensure it’s rubbed into ur skin before it dries down to avoid pilling.
It sucks this is not water resistant although this sunscreen is one of the better mineral sunscreens Sephora has to offer in terms of no white cast plus it feels very comfortable and light weight. It’s pricey for a small bottle.
Why ??! I’m on a hunt for something like this, but better value and water resistant.
I have been a fan of this product for a while! It was super hydrating and it worked perfectly with the other skincare that I would use. I stopped using it for about a year because I developed a skin condition (not related to this product).
But I picked it back up, and I did notice that the formula was different. Its ingredients are still fantastic. However, the level of hydration is just not the same. This one is a different consistency, whereas the previous one used to be more of a cream.
This is more so like a paste. It does go on as if it got some hydration to it, but it dries down and it feels tightening? It does dry down my other products, and that’s on a hyaluronic acid serum, plus a hydrating moisturizer.
Even so, it gets the job done. 4 stars for ingredients, sun protection, but not a full 5 stars due to the formula change and cooperation with other skincare.
Forget about the annoying white marks traditional sunscreens leave behind. The Unseen Sunscreen SPF 40 is 100% invisible and contains a glowy effect to make your skin pop with radiance. Protect your skin from sun damage and blue light with a sunscreen that won’t fail you.
I wear mineral sunscreen almost daily, but I find that it doesn’t always play well with some foundations and primers. I’d been debating whether to try this product for a while, then it popped up as a sample option at checkout for another purchase.
I was so excited to receive my little sample packet a few days later. It is in fact completely clear and upon application feels just like any other silicone-based primer. I applied my normal skincare products first- vit C serum and moisturizer- and let them fully absorb into my skin (about 10 minutes.
) Then, I squeezed out one small drop of Unseen Sunscreen and patted it on to just half my face for comparison purposes. Immediately, I noticed how much more even it made my skin. Like a fine putty, it smoothed over all my pores, lines and textured areas, leaving a flawless glowing canvas behind.
I was worried about it being too mattifying since I have drier skin, but that was not the case at all. My foundation glided over this product incredibly easy, without clinging to any problem areas. I then worried that as the day wore on, my makeup would start to appear oily or slip off, but it didn’t move.
Not even a little bit, and I maintained that gorgeous glow all day. Although the sample was enough for about 3 applications, I ordered a full size after just the first day. I’ve now used it 3 days in total, with 2 of those days having spent several hours in the sun.
So far, no signs of sun damage whatsoever, even after one day where my neck and chest turned a bit red. I’m so beyond pleased with this product for not only saving me time spent applying sunscreen and primer separately, but for giving me a flawless finish.
This will definitely be a product I reach for often.
You might be thinking: will adding sunscreen to my morning & face every few hours really make that much of a difference? I’m here to tell you: it absolutely will. My skin is on the dry/oily side depending on the time of year- but in the winter my skin wants to match the intensity of the frigid cold snow and crumble away like that granola bar you forgot is in the bottom of your bag as a safety snack.
It’s not cute friends, not cute. The unseen sunscreen revitalizes my skin & lets me have peace of mind that it’s protected from not only the blazing rays of the sun- but also adds a little extra punch of hydration so that I know that despite my genetics- there’s an improved chance of my skin looking younger for longer.
I cannot recommend this product enough! I apply it after washing, toning, adding my serum, and moisturizing to really lock in the moisture. It’s comfortable under makeup & doesn’t affect the texture of my BB cream.
I use Supergoop!’s mineral powder to reapply sunscreen after a few hours if I am wearing makeup- otherwise if I’m not I’ll slather this on again and hit my face with a lil setting spray to feel fancy.
It’s worth the money! I’m inconsistent (despite my dedication to not look like a dried up raisin) so the full sized version will last me two months. As an added bonus: You can ALSO recycle the bottle after you’ve used all of the product so you aren’t contributing to landfills while trying to keep ya skin fresh.
(I may have imagined that last part but I’m nearly 87. 5% sure you can recycle the type of plastic through some method or another). 15/10- recommend.
I bought this because I needed a sheer, everyday sunscreen with zero white cast. This product is completely clear and didn’t make my skin too oily. But unfortunately, after just a few days of using this, I started noticing little raised bumps all over my forehead (I was only using this on the top part of my face because my mask covers the rest).
At first I thought it was just a breakout, but I didn’t regularly get these sorts of pimples and this sunscreen was the only new product I was using. I don’t have very sensitive skin so this sort of reaction to a product is very unusual for me.
I have had the same reaction to another sunscreen, the CeraVe ultra-light one, so I believe I have an allergy (or sensitivity) to some of the most common ingredients in chemical sunscreens: avobenzone, homosalate, octisalate, and octocrylene.
If this is the case, then I don’t have a problem with the sunscreen, just my skin’s reaction to it. In the future, I will only be using physical/mineral sunscreens that don’t include these ingredients.
I have heard great things about this product, and it seems to work amazing for other people. It is sheer and almost completely grease-free when applied. Because of how many people rave about this, I would say it’s still a safe product to try (though I wouldn’t purchase if you’ve had reactions to other chemical sunscreens because the price is pretty high).
I would just say that if you buy this, make sure to test it on a small part of your face before putting it everywhere, just to make sure you don’t have a similar reaction to me.

I have been an avid user of this sunscreen for years after it was recommended in a post-follow up surgery appointment. I have a long history of skin cancer. It runs in my family. After having Mohs and reconstructive surgery on my face (the surgeon did an AMAZING job, I only have one small, barely noticeable scar), she recommended using this product on my face whenever I went outdoors during the healing process.
I had 38 stitches on my face, so I really had to be really careful. I also wanted to minimize any possible scarring. She told me this product was extremely gentle and effective. She also told me she knew it was more expensive than drug store brand sunscreens, but that it was the only one she recommended to her post-op patients.
I trusted her word and followed her instructions precisely. I’ll be honest, it has been my tried and trued sunscreen ever since. In the last couple of years I had to switch dermatologists due to a change in our medical insurance.
Out of curiosity, I asked my new dermatologist what she recommended? I wasn’t the least bit surprised when she said Elta MD. She said it was the only one she used. She said the same thing as my surgeon.
it costs a little more, but it is worth it. I cannot recommend this product highly enough. If you have to skimp on anything— do not make it your sunscreen. In my humble opinion, it is the MOST important thing in your skincare regime.
I originally tried this out after having a reaction to the cult favorite UV Clear–I think my skin disagrees with the niacinimide in that formulation. Anyway, I was happy with the quality of EltaMD, but looking for something more moisturizing for my combination/dry skin and I found it in UV Facial.
This is an incredibly moisturizing and rich formula that does not leave a white cast on my pale skin. It will leave an ever so slight shine on your face, which translates to a glow on my skin, so if you are oily or prefer a completely matte look then this product probably isn’t for you.
I find it wears lovely under my foundation–something that can be a challenge with sunscreens. I love this formula so much but had to knock a star off because of the use of chemical filters. If this sunscreen was purely physical it would be a 5/5 holy grail formulation.
I keep testing out all-mineral sunscreens and always come back to this one. If you are on the drier side and don’t mind a chemical sunscreen, try this out!.

I developed an allergy to chemical sunscreens over the past year. I tried all sorts of dermatologist recommended and sensitive skin sunscreens but still had issues with my skins reactivity. I’d either breakout or have an allergic reaction.
I used to be a SPF every day sort of person, but I had finally had enough and stopped wearing sunscreen altogether. I bought this after extwnsive research and had it for several months before I finally decided to do a patch test.
I was terrified, but nothing happened. No reaction! After a week, I tried it all over my face and let me tell you, I am amazed. Finally I have found a sunscreen that doesn’t cause breakouts or irritate my sensitive skin!!! After three weeks of wearing this stuff I have also noticed that my acne has gotten better, my hyper-pigmentation is not so bad, and it just goes on so well.
It can leave a white cast, but for a very fair skinned woman, I like that it lightens my redness. It’s also very luminous. It will cling to dry patches though, and be very careful to rub it in around the brows and hairline.
It also has a strange smell, but it goes away after it dries. Overall, I highly recommend this product for anyone struggling with a sunscreen allergy and acne.
I have two favorite facial sunscreens right now and this is one of them. I love that it is completely unscented (I loathe, mean loathe sunscreen smell period) and liquid for easy application. When first applied, you will have a white cast, just keep gently rubbing it in and it will disappear.
Plays well with makeup! I have used this for years and love it. Please don’t stop making this product available! This product was unavailable for few months in store and online. They recently made it available online only through the official Neutrogena site, which I love due to knowing I am getting an unexpired, authentic product! Thank you Neutrogena for this product!.
I have been doing a lot of research on sun block and I really like this one. It is a mineral sunblock, meaning it has zinc and titanium. Zinc typically doesn’t irritate, where as something like oxybenzone which is found in a lot of other sunblock, will often irritate my skin.
Being that this is a mineral or physical sunblock, it leaves a lavender/whiteish cast on my medium brown skin tone. The cast is somewhat noticeable on my skin, in my opinion. I think this would leave more of a whiter caste on deeper skin tone.
The consistency of it when it comes out the bottle is a bit watery. According to my dermatologist, physical sunblock’s don’t get absorbed into the bloodstream and it blocks UVA which is responsible for destroying the collagen in the skin.
For these reasons, I don’t care how I look with this white/lavender cast! I am preventing my skin from aging. PLUS, if my confidence isn’t as high that day, I’ll have a mask covering half my face and sunglasses covering the other half.
So it really isn’t an issue for me. I would recommend this product especially if you have sensitive skin. I think this product and the white cast it leaves is not as bad as some products with higher zinc content.
Its easier to blend in compared to some other zinc sun blocks I have. The issue I have is that it is a small bottle for the price. They can go ahead and make this 10 dollars instead of 15 or something.

Powerfully invisible broad-spectrum, mineral SPF 30 protects even the most sensitive skin like you’ve never seen—literally. This lightweight, deeply hydrating lotion blends in for all skin tones fast without leaving a trace.
It calms and cools sun-stressed skin and leaves absolutely everyone with a soft, dewy finish.
One of the most easy to spread mineral sunscreens I’ve ever tried with a good amount of ‘playtime’ to work into skin before it sets/becomes a struggle to move around. Whilst it certainly leaves quite a residue on hands that you’ll probably want to wash off after application, I don’t feel it sitting on my face like you often can with mineral sunscreens so fairly lightweight in terms of feel.
As someone with fairly picky skin, another plus is that it didn’t clog my pores or break me out at all. Despite this however, it can appear very greasy on skin and this is coming from someone with dry skin.
This is odd given the ‘lightweight’ feel, but it doesn’t seem to dissipate or soak in throughout the day. In fact, I’d argue that coupled with your own natural sweat it looks worse as time goes on which makes re-application less than desirable.
Definitely one for the cooler/low UV index days and probably best avoided in the heat. Even for me, two finger-lengths of the product (which is likely below the recommended amount) leaves me looking a little more sweaty than dewy.
Finally, I’m a fitzpatrick type II and there’s a definite tone-up effect in terms of the mineral cast. This does fade slightly after 15 minutes or so but I definitely wouldn’t call this sheer for a majority of skin tones.
I almost gave 4 stars as the actual texture compared to other mineral sunscreens is great. but on reflection it’s far from perfect and not a very affordable option. The hunt for a holy grail sunscreen continues, but it’s good to have this option available as a back-up.
Let me start by saying DO NOT use this if you have dark skin. I’m the palest person I know and you can see this on my skin. I think that’s just the nature of zinc oxide sunscreens but I’m not totally sure.
I used to really like this and I had bought it because of Hyram like a lot of other people. One of my biggest concerns with this sunscreen is the fact that it has Isostearic Acid which is a well known acne causer but I didn’t realize this until my dermatologist pointed it out and it was too late to return this.
I have not noticed any breakouts yet that I can contribute to this sunscreen but just know it’s a possibility because of that ingredients, Cosdna actually ranks it as a 5 in the acne category. My other quarrel with this sunscreen is just the way it applies.
This is not moisturizing even though it might seem like it when you first put it on. It dries QUICK and will not blend into the skin properly if you let it dry before it’s fully rubbed in and you’ll also have white streaks on your face.
This also dries down sticky and will have a bunch of hairs and dust stick to your face. I’ve also found that throughout the day at work, I’ll have white flakes pilling and flaking off on my chin and it’s very noticeable.
As for actual sun protection, I’ve never actually used this in a setting where I would get sunburnt, I use this for daily wear so I’m not sure how well it protects against the sun yet. Since I can’t return this sunscreen I will be finishing it but I am not happy with it and will not be repurchasing.
I kinda wish I could give this 3. 5 stars, but I felt generous so 4 it is. I had been looking for a good mineral spf because chemical ones irritate me. I kept seeing this one recommended everywhere so I decided to give it a try.
For one, yes it’s kinda pricey, but most US brand face sunscreens are. I personally didn’t mind how moisturizing (or “greasy” as others put it) this product is because I have very dry skin. That being said, even for me this is quite “wet”, so I would stay away if you have oily or even combo skin, (unless maybe the weather is cold/dry).
As for white cast, don’t be fooled by the marketing. I have Indian/brown skin and this still takes a lot of rubbing in. I always put the proper amount of product on my face, and it def leaves a white cast if I don’t give myself quite an adequate amount of time to properly rub it in.
Even then though, it still leaves somewhat of a vague hue. If you have lighter skin this probably won’t be a problem. But for people with darker skin I would honestly just stay away. I will say it does blend in better still though than most mineral spf’s so I will give it that.
I much prefer the Cotz brand sensitive mineral spf 40. It blends in with no cast (magically??), and is cheaper for more product, (however beware it is still “oily”). Overall, I would say this spf could work for some, but still won’t be worth it for others.

I can’t stand the feel of greasy sunscreens on my face, but this one is really great. It doesn’t leave a shiny finish, doesn’t make me look oily at all, it doesn’t feel gross on my skin, and doesn’t break me out which is very important for me with my very oily, very breakout prone skin! It is quiet pricy so I only use it in the morning after my cleanser and light moisturiser and I use a different sunscreen throughout the day to reapply my spf.
It leaves a whitecast at first but it does soak in after a few minutes so don’t worry! It’s taken me a long time to find a sunscreen that works well for me and although it is more expensive than other spfs, it is by far the best one I’ve tried.
This is the second time I’ve repurchased this product and I will definitely be getting another one once this one runs out :).
