20 Best Sun Tanning Lotion For Pale Skin (2023 Updated)

So far so good with this product! I use Jergens body lotion daily and have very sensitive skin, and I love their body lotion. I trust the brand because it is a large brand and typically with large well known brands they sell more product, which means more reviews, more chances for those nightmare break out/rash horror stories…and I am not seeing any of those stories about this product anywhere.

Fully trusting in Jergens brand, I bought this product but I did not buy their mitt, I bought the Tanologist mitt, which happened to be cheaper too, and it worked great! I am extremely fair skinned, you can literally see through my skin I am so pale.

I went all in with the deep bronze! I have a friend who recommended exfoliating, shaving, and also using body lotion before using this product. The lotion beforehand is very important so you do not get streaking around your knees, ankles, joints, elbows.

Also, when you apply just apply on your thighs, and lower legs, then only using the excess product on the mitt go back and get your knees, elbows, ankles, feet, and hands, making sure to bend so you do not get creasing.

It has been a couple of hours and I can definitely see a natural tan progressing with no streaking! I did not use this on my face, I used my normal serum, and face lotion, then after it dried I used the Jergens natural glow moisturizer in light/med.

I am naturally a pale ginger and let me tell you, I’ve been self tanning for the past 10 years and have tried soo many brands (loving tan, st. tropez, st. moritz, b. tan, l’oreal, tan physics, etc. ) and this one still remains my top fav.

My #1 reason for this self tanner is that it gradually fades over time. It lasts for a week and it always fades so nicely & evenly to where I don’t need to do a full-body exfoliate to remove leftover tanner before applying again the following week.

Loving tan is definitely a fan favorite, however, it does not gradually fade and it fades in patches and you pretty much have to exfoliate it all off after a few days and reapply. But NOT with this jergens instant sun self tanner! I always use the dark one since the lighter one has more orange pigment.

Also, this formula always works nicely on the feet and ankles and never looks harsh in dry areas. This self tanner does take a little longer to fully dry because it is moisturizing, but it has never gotten onto my clothes or my bed sheets.

I always apply it before bed and even if its not fully dry, i still put on a long sleeve T-shirt & pajama pants and go to sleep and i wake up and its perfectly fine! No streaks ever! My #2 reason for this self tanner is it remains even after your first shower the next morning after applying.

Unlike other self tanners that have the color-guard which ends up washing almost completely off. 10/10 recommend this tanner!.

There are some pros and cons with product. So first off, this stuff DOES work. One application gives you a nice subtle tan for times when you need some quick color on your legs but 2 applications on separate days gives you a deep rich glow.

Unfortunately, it can’t all be good though. This does take a really long time to dry and even when it seems dry, it’s really not. I used this product late in the evening after I showered hoping the color would develop overnight.

I applied it and after a few hours went to bed. My sheets were a mess the next morning! So even when it felt dry, it apparently wasn’t. The next day I applied another layer which gave me a nice sun kissed tanned look but I had to to keep putting towels down everywhere I sat because it would rub off! The other con and to me the worst, is the smell.

After the product “dries” it has this really musty smell. I can only compare to an almost ammonia like smell, kinda like what kids smell like when they pee in bed in elementary school. The smell really is awful and almost not worth using this product at all.

This is a great self tanner works as well as the expensive brands bought from Sephora. I was extremely hesitant about putting a self tanner all over my body when I was wet so I just did my legs since I could eat pants and cover them up if they looked crazy, but Jergens knocked it out of the park with this product.

I didn’t have any streaks on my legs whatsoever but did have a little splotchiness near my heels. The next time I used Jergens tanner I put moisturizer on my heels, knees, hands and wrists before applying tanner once it was applied I then used a bath towel to lightly rub/buff my wrist so the color would blend nicely with the palms of my hands.

Moisturizing and buffing worked like a charm drastically helped and I was left with a beautiful natural tan that had no orange color to it like so many self tanners do. Another plus is so many self tanners smell tank and within a few hours leave you with a strong odor after it’s applied and started to work, but this product smells great.

Lastly, it did not stain my clothes and I got dressed within 5 minutes of applying. So if you’re in the mood for a tan but do not have hours to sit in the sun, this is the product for you trust me, you won’t be disappointed!.

I truly love this stuff. I’ve purchased several bottles in the past several months. I hate the way some moisturizers feel, leaving you sticky for awhile. This does not do that, and I love that I can apply it wet, dab it dry, and get dressed.

Since it’s gradual, I’ve had zero issues with streaking like some other self-tanners do. I have spots where I have lost pigment due to vitiligo, and while this doesn’t make the spots darker, it doesn’t make them yellow, like again, some other self-tanners do.

I have very fair skin that doesn’t tan easily; my skin just burns and becomes red in the sun, so I thought this would be the perfect solution. It takes a couple of applications (usually a few days, I apply once a day) to start noticing any color.

It’s not full coverage or heavy so it looks more natural, but it can be streaky and patchy, especially on the back of your legs, knees, and top of your feet. The biggest problem with this lotion is that it colors other surfaces orange.

It stains bed sheets, light colored clothing, towels, and natural nails (nails with no polish on them). It does seem to wash out after a couple of washes, but I wish it was completely transfer-free. I also don’t care for the fragrance, and it can feel greasy.

It’s suppose to smell like coconut oil but personally, I smell buttered popcorn! Overall, this lotion is just okay if you want to color your legs quickly, but it’s not the best product and I don’t think I will be purchasing it again next summer due to all of these negative factors.

I first tried this product 3 years ago. I wanted a lotion that I could afford (in my very small budget) because I have super dry skin. I also wanted it to be self tanning to help me not look so pasty during the winter months.

Not only is this brand affordable but it also moisturizes my skin without leaving it feeling greasy and it gives your skin a nice radiant and clean look. Consistency is key with this lotion in order for you to be tan if you have a more fair tone color or lighter skin like myself but it doesn’t take long to see results! Your skin gradually looks more tan and even without all of the cons of other self tanners.

PLUS. Helps your skin looking smoothe and gives you a nice clean glow to your face without actually having to put on tons of makeup! This is definitely worth buying and adding into your daily skin care routine! OH! I almost forgot.

It doesn’t smell bad either. :).

This Australian Gold Rapid Tanning Intensifier Lotion is the best. Not only does it smells amazing (like summer), it works SO good. I have a nice deep tan going. I love that it’s a lotion, and not oil.

It really is my favorite, and I’ll probably never use anything else. Great value for your money. Just rub on your skin, and go in the sun. Easy to use. And I do love that it has Tea Tree Oil in it too!.

I love going tanning. In the rainy northwest were I live, we don’t get hardly enough sun. During the winter I offset my low vitamin D levels with some time in the tanning booth. As a WOC I love to deepen my skin tone and look evenly bronzed.

This lotion helps me stay ahead of my tanning goals without breaking the bank. The extremely reasonable price point of this lotion makes it very budget friendly. I purchase these and leave them in my car, on my deck in case of a sunny day, and in my beach bag during the summer.

They do not contain a bronzer or stain your fingers, but it helps my glow get deeper much faster than it can on its own.

It’s a product I’ve been using for some time now. I’d say it’s the best one I’ve found to get a quick tan, I apply the accelerator and then the sunscreen and I notice a lot of difference, between applying it and not.

The brown one is very nice, I’m fair-skinned and I’m always afraid of getting burned but combining this accelerator with the sunscreen, I feel that my skin instead of getting burned gets a tan. It has a very sweet and pleasant smell, not cloying.

It’s quite a spread. It leaves the skin very moisturized. It does not stain, is white fluid cream texture and is quickly absorbed, does not leave a greasy feeling. For me it is a summer must.

I’m on a vacation with my husband in the Dominican for our 5th anniversary, and I bought some of this before our trip. I used it on Monday, and kept using it throughout the week…only just yesterday did I realize that the painful and extremely itchy rash that has developed on my arms was caused by this oil.

Nothing like this has EVER happened to me before, and it was my first time using this product. I’m obviously not near my home, so I can’t just go to the doctor. The concierge at the resort at which we are staying called a pharmacy to have some hydrocortisone cream delivered for me.

It cost us $40 for a tiny tube. We fly home tomorrow and I’m not sure I’ll have enough to last me until I get home. I’m very upset as this has definitely affected our vacation. I’m miserable and it’s all because of this oil.

I’m seeing now that there are tons of reviews all over the internet where people are saying this have them a horrible rash. Even if I had seen them, I probably still would have purchased this, because I have used Sun Bum products in the past with no issue, and am not allergic to ANYthing.

So instead of enjoying my last day in paradise, I am in pain and so very itchy. Even the cream doesn’t really totally relieve it. I really feel like this product should be removed from shelves until something is figured out.

I will be telling every one of my friends to steer clear of this. I really wish I hadn’t used it, but it’s too late now and I’m stuck with this agonizing rash. Please do better.

I found this stuff on the ulta website and despite mixed reviews decided to give it a try. I took this stuff with me to South Padre in hopes of laying on the beach and getting a nice tan but this stuff did not work for me at all.

Mostly because I couldn’t get it to absorb into my skin. I followed the instructions, applied sunscreen first then after giving that a few minutes to dry I applied this lotion. It just made a mess all over my swimsuit and towel.

I thought maybe the sunscreen was preventing it from absorbing completely so I tried applying this before the sunscreen and still couldn’t get it to absorb. And it has a really bad smell. Smells like cocoa butter and chocolate.

I would have returned it but I ordered it online because there’s no ulta store near me and mailing it back is more hassle than it’s worth so I ended up throwing it away and buying some banana boat tanning oil.

First let me say I’m pale. Like, wicked pale. LIKE, FAMILY CAME FROM IRELAND LESS THAN A CENTURY AGO pale. I know nothing about tanning and do not claim to. I work from home, and on nice days I like to sit on the porch and work, and it was the perfect day for also trying out this product.

I had no idea what to expect, but followed the instructions by applying sunscreen first and then the tanning lotion. I would say within an hour my arms, shoulders, chest, and neck were noticeably darker.

Just as a side note, I tend to burn easily, and I had no burns whatsoever. That said, my legs were a bit more of a challenge- I sat in direct light with my legs up and exposed in the sun, and felt like I wasn’t making any real progress below the knee, but my knees and thighs we’re getting some color.

It kept looking like the lotion was just absorbing into my skin without doing much of anything. i had to keep reapplying in that area to see some results where I did not have to do that anywhere else.

It didn’t bother me so much, it was just an observation. By the end of my workday though, I had a nice sunkissed look that was natural and flattering- not orange or overdone, something I was worried about as such a pale person.

I only wanted a nice healthy glow, and this definitely did that! A few other things to note though: -I bought this online and didn’t expect the actual lotion itself to be brown. I wanted this to be something I could bring to the beach and on vacation, but putting this very dark lotion on my very pale body looked.

a bit problematic. I think this is something I’ll keep in my backyard. -Yes, it smells like chocolate and that smell is definitely subjective. It fades though. -It takes a while for the lotion to dry/absorb, so make sure you give yourself some time before you start moving around and touching things Overall though, I do really like this product! Again, I’m not a tanner, but it got my goal accomplished very easily :).

we have been using this product for years, BUT the formula has been changed. what used to be absorbed into the skin immediately now lies on top and needs to be tissued off. Even the fantastic fragrance is gone.

The sweet-tart burst of ripe, juicy strawberries stirred into sweet, frozen cream is a summer pleasure unlike any other. It’s light and refreshing and tastes like summer on a spoon.

This is a great accelerator for the tanning bed. My husband and I have both been using it for the past month and both are noticeably darker. I have a really hard time tanning because I am very fair skinned but this has really helped me to get a good base tan.

I would recommend this to anyone looking for an accelerator. You can’t beat the price of this product either!.

I can’t find this on Wpg. shelves as of last year and a half, so glad to find it on well. ca. Don’t let the label fool you into thinking it’s oil, or oily, because it’s a gel. I have always used this because when rubbed on your skin it doesn’t roll off into “dimethiconey like balls” or pieces like the others, especially when layered with other lotions or creams.

It is a transparent brown gel. It has a small amount of natural bronzer from walnut. I don’t like dha bronzers, they tend to make me turn orange. I like to use the dry oil as a serum on my face before i put on another cream.

This dry oil is safe for indoor tanning beds, and is a cheap alternative for pricey tanning lotions. I like to use it as a starter before I move on to tingle lotions. I use this dry oil for outdoor tanning too, and it is nothing like an oil, and doesn’t clog my pores and make me break out.

Love the scent!.

Since I have dark olive skin (when I’m tan) this is my go to. It’s got a great summery feel to it, scent is tropical and delicious. Helps keep my skin softer as well. I tend to have dryer skin and suffer from ketosis pilaris so this doesn’t irritate my skin, it instead helps with the dry cracking.

When I’m out at the beach I like to feel sexy and tan, and once I get my base tan going this is all I use all over, except my face. It doesn’t get five stars because the package can get greasy and hard to manage in sand.

Fix that and I’ll be super excited. I keep my products in a ziplock bag and then in a pouch for protection, however I still get sand everywhere and on this packaging it tends to stick and stay. If you want a nice deep dark tan and can handle it, use this for your tanning lotion or oil.

I used to go to the tanning bed when I wasn’t laying out at home and one of the best of the best tanning oils you could use was the Australian Gold Dark Tanning Intensifier. It’s not too pricy. I wouldn’t recommend it for anyone just starting out tanning or anyone with fair to light skin because you will burn extremely bad.

I do recommend it for someone with a light to medium tan. It works so good. It only takes a little while in the sun or tanning bed to turn dark.

I enjoyed this product, its a new brand to me & in the main it did exactly what it claimed. I applied it repeatedly over consecutive days and found it to build well giving even natural coverage. It didn’t smell as strongly of biscuits as other self tanning products I have used although I wouldn’t go as far as to call it unscented.

It faded gradually over time so I was not left with uneven patches, that’s a win! It didn’t stain my sheets whilst sleeping in it overnight prior to showering off the next day, a real bonus! Its not sticky, it absorbs easily & dries quickly.

I used the Vita Liberata applicator mitt to & to give some constructive feedback would prefer that it had a thumb on it to help me keep it on my hand during product application. I would recommend the applicator mitt for giving even coverage whilst protecting your hands from unsightly build up of product.

Overall its a strong 4 stars from me for this sunny product duo.

I’m not an experienced user of a self tanning products, but I can say, that I was impressed by this one. First of all, only after one application my skin had acquired beautifully tanned skin tone. I only reapplied after a few days.

Second, it washes off evenly. Of course, it also has its downsides. Over time, the self-tanning product smell develops. But, to be honest, I don’t believe there is a product that doesn’t have that smell.

So it was tolerable. Also, I noticed that in some places on the body (wrists, ankles, hair line, around belly button etc. ) you can see that the self-tanning product has been applied, but it seems to me that it is the fault of the application rather than the product itself (for your information I applied with tanning mitt).

I only gave 4 stars to this product because I’m still searching for my favorite self-tanning product, but maybe I will return to this one!.

This tan works really well. With exfoliating and shaving it comes out pretty even. I don’t know why they call it a gradual tan as I find it works just like a normal tan and pretty much the same as their more expensive tanning elixir at £34 for 150ml.

I do find the first application of the year is not quite dark enough and do a 2nd one 2 days later after exfoliating and shaving and the colour looks good and pretty even, I do have to do that every 2 days thereafter to maintain the colour and evenness as I exfoliate and shave every two days.

I do think my skin replaces itself quite rapidly though so others may get a more long lasting result and also if they exfoliate and shave a bit less too. With my skin it starts to get patchy and paler by day 3 if I haven’t re-done it.

It does feel sticky when applied and does give that usual fake tan smell several hours after application, but they all do.

Just got back from a beach vacation to Florida and had to write a review because I LOVED this stuff. I applied before we went down to the beach (the SPF 30) and did not get sunburned. I love the consistency of this (a gel instead of a spray or lotion).

I feel like spray sunscreens don’t last very long but this I feel like you use a lot less which is also nice. I don’t feel like I made me more bronze but I did like that it wasn’t white/didn’t leave a white cast and it smells amazing! This is by far my favorite sunscreen and after using it this last week, it will be my go to for sure!.

One of my summer must haves. I think the only disappointment is that the sun protection for my skin is so great that while I would normally tan without it, but risk burning myself, with this product I can spend all day at the beach and not only not burn, but come home with a barely a tan.

But that is my skin. Since I don’t want to end up looking like a leather handbag, I will swap my natural tan for this, and have patience with my toasted marshmallow. Which reminds me that I love the smell of this stuff.

I am a natural redhead. Years ago I would love to go to the tanning beds, but wrinkling, freckling, and fear of skin cancer has kept me away. I have been in search of a perfect self tanner and have tried them ALL – from expensive St.

Tropez, Fake Bake, Jergens. so many!. I have not been happy with the results or color of any. They are too smelly and take too long to set! Who has 8 hours to wait around in a smelly coat of lotion?! Even if I do it while sleeping, I feel so uncomfortable and fear streaking! I’m rolling around all night!.

I was actually considering going back to the tanning beds. It just makes me confident. So, I was looking at lotions, always being a fan of AG products, and I had an idea! If this has bronzers, could I use it even without the bed and get color? I tried it and the answer is YES! Here is my process:1.

make sure all skin is clean 2 apply to full body. i do my face, but if you have sensitive skin, be careful. 3. WASH HANDS! They will stain if you don’t! Pay attention to nails and knuckles! DON’T GET WATER ON BODY.

4. I wait ONLY AN HOUR and shower. (this is amazing for me. self tanners take forever!)5. color develops in 6-8 hours, so don’t be sad when the color of the lotion washes away in the shower. It will be back soon! Another benefit is the smell.

Usually I smell my self tan as long as it’s on my skin. With this, I only smell it after the first shower. After the second shower, the smell is TOTALLY GONE! AMAZING! The color fades slowly and not patchy.

I plan on using only once a week to keep some color. Cons: The only con is the color is SLIGHTLY orange, but not so much that makes me self conscious. I feel pretty, toned and tan. Try varying the time you leave on your skin for deeper color.

An hour is perfect for me. Any longer, and I think I may look too fake. Even after 30 mins, I can see a nice glow about 6 hours later. I will never have a deep dark tan, but have achieved a nice, natural glow! I am happy!.

This is the best self tanner you will find! It has no funky smell, does not leave your skin orange. Exfoliate well, moisturize then use as directed and you will have a nice even natural looking tan.

This is the best self tanner hands down!

PROS: – No smell (after you rinse off). Just like almost ALL other self tanners, the timeframe from when you put it on until the first time you rinse, it has a self tanner-ish smell. You only have to wait 3 hours to rinse so I can stand a little smell for that small timeframe.

– Goes on evenly with marginal room for error. As long as you use the “tint” of the foam as a guide, you’ll have little to no areas of unevenness and it’s very forgiving even if you miss a spot. – It’s NOT orange (after you rinse).

I read the reviews before trying and there were several that reported they felt like they looked orange but I’m guessing these people put it on and didn’t rinse it off and that’s when they felt “orange.

” It does look orange for those first few hours until you rinse BUT after you rinse, a sun kissed golden brown color remains (the more product you put on, the darker this will be). – It fades seamlessly with no patchy areas.

And I’m not one who exfoliates before usage (which apparently helps decrease splotchy fading) – The mit and kubuki brush are great for application (although you do not need to replace each time you order a new bottle) CONS: – Amount of product needed to maintain color is quite a lot.

I don’t think one bottle would last me a month or maybe it would, but no more than a month. This is using it up to 2 times per week. If this product was less expensive, this would not be such a negative.

– Cost. It’s expensive and on the higher end of expensive, when it comes to self tanning products. In addition, you cannot purchase the foam by itself but must purchase the kit (that includes the mit and kubuki brush).

Having to purchase the kit obviously makes it more expensive and the mit and kubuki brush do not need to be replaced that frequently. With current state of our economy , a LOT of people will not be able to afford this product regularly.

These are my thoughts based on my experience with the 85/66 tanning foam.

Loved everything about this lotion (except the price)—it’s super thick and creamy, but a little actually goes a long way. I have been tanning for a while now and usually use either Neon Rose, Somewhere on a Beach or Ed Hardy’s Coconut Kisses—and while I have a solid base tan, I was starting to feel like I was plateauing and wanted to try something new to boost my color.

The girl at my tanning salon recommended this one since it gives a natural bronze color without having to worry about streaking and turning orange—and I’m so glad she did! I immediately noticed results but even more so the next day.

It leaves your skin super soft and I swear it helps firm you up. If you want to look and feel like you just got back from a tropical vacation, this lotion is the key!.

Love this lotion! It smells great, it doesn’t leave you feeling greasy, and it gives you great color! 2 thumbs up for sure!

I have used this for years for tanning and love everything about it. This time I bought it for a different purpose and I’m so happy I did! I recently had back surgery and couldn’t moisturize easily because I couldn’t bend.

I have 2 rods and 22 screws and 4 new cages. I have very dry skin and was looking older and more beat up. I started using this after my showers while still wet to moisturize. It glides easily so I was able to get it to places like my legs that I couldn’t reach.

My skin is baby soft and smooth now all of the time. No bumps or dry patches anywhere. The scent isn’t strong like when you’re baking in the sun although I wish it was lol but my skin has never looked or felt better and I stay that way until my next shower.

I have always had extremely dry skin and tried everything and only one other thing worked. But this as a daily moisturizer omg I’m telling you is the best thing ever. I don’t stay oily or sticky, it’s different than when you are in the sun.

The trick is to put it on wet skin then dry off. I’m so soft I sit here rubbing my own legs all the time lol I’m 50 but have the legs of a 25 yr old thanks in part to this oil.

But most importantly, it works great for fair skin tones! It gave me a natural sun kissed look, and I absolutely love it (though, you need a couple of regular applications to see the result). Make sure to blend it well on the areas like knees and elbows to avoid patching, and give it a few minutes before putting your clothes on (I personally didn’t find any stains even on the lighter fabric after use).

Amazing for pale skin and rainy spring :).

It smells like soy sauce, straight up. You get used to it, but it’s not pleasant. However, I don’t notice it once I’m done applying, so I assume it’s fading. Plus, the smell of the after-sun lotion is lovely, so that makes up for it.

Second, the way it sinks in. or rather, doesn’t. It really just sits on top of my skin, and often pills in places, even right after I’ve exfoliated. It takes a bit of work to spread evenly, and no mater how much you rub, it’s not gonna be absorbed.

This leads to number Three, it absolutely rubs off on whatever you come into contact with. The reason it works so well for me is that I very carefully ration my time laying out for a tan to 20 minutes max per side, and I’m able to do this in my back yard.

I don’t have to worry about it staining my favorite suit or towel, because I use stuff I don’t care about when I’m just working on my tan. (So far, it’s washed out very well though!) I’d never bring this browning lotion for a day at the beach, it would rub off on everything and somehow still manage to cling to the surface of my skin, making me a sand magnet.

Everyone would also wonder why I deliberately brought something that smells like it should go on sushi. Despite these drawbacks however, I do have a very fabulous tan. I have very fair skin, and the aforementioned self imposed time limit, so it took about a full week to settle in, but it sure does work.

I love the way my skin looks, and I’ve never burned when following my 20 min rule. My legs have always been the hardest part for me to tan, but I just keep looking at them now and admiring how tan and glowy they are.

So altho I don’t recommend this for a long day at the beach, if you want a good tan, I’d give this a try. Also, I purchased the after-sun lotion as well, and it is hands down the best I’ve used; not only does it smell wonderful without being too heavy, it’s the ONLY one I’ve found that actually leaves my skin feeling moisturized for longer than an hour.

Plus, a little really goes a very long way. Hope this helps someone!.

it says on the bottle that you can use this without sunscreen, but i wouldn’t recommend unless you already have a tan. if you want to use this when you’re not tan and aiming to tan for the first time, use with a low SPF (6, 7, 8, 15, 30) and you will get tan.

this stuff CAN and WILL stain your clothes? however, it washes out easily. dress accordingly if you don’t want brown stains on your bikinis/towels. smells like cocoa beans with a hint of chocolate. it’s a good smell, not at all overbearing.

a bit greasy and takes a little to completely dry down, but that’s fine with me.

My wife and I have been using Australian Gold products for 4 years now. By far the best on the market The results speak for them self’s.

I’ve tried St Tropez, Bondi Sands, Bali Body, Loving Tan, Isle of Paradise, b. tan, literally SO many and this is the least offensive smelling tan – confident enough to wear this in the day as it develops and I’m not embarrassed of smelling gross like the others.

-Dries quickly with no sticky feeling. I hate that feeling stickiness even if a tan claims to “dry fast. ” This one truly does and I can be confident I won’t feel gross after putting on clothes. -The product develops quickly.

I get a rich, deep color, similar to as if I were to be naturally tanned if I sleep overnight in this, but I still get a nice tanned look if I wear it for 2 hours. -Lasts about a week if I moisturize in the morning and night.

Cons: -This is a spray instead of my typical foam I would use, so if you use a mitt you waste a lot of product. The consistency is like Fake Bake, which is also a liquid tanner, and I recall their instructions were to use latex gloves as opposed to a mitt.

I tried that with Maui Babe and find that it’s a lot better than a mitt – you can spread the product better and it’s not as wasteful. -If I forget to moisturize, I’ll notice some “cracking” on places like my knees and elbows.

It doesn’t look horrible, but it does make my skin look pretty dry if I don’t hydrate. Overall, it looks really nice for the first 3/4 days, and can start to look a little less nice with more “cracking” on the 5/6/7 day depending on how often you moisturize.

-The packaging and directions are inconsistent – the front says 1 hour but the instructions direct users to leave it on for 2 hours – regardless, I usually always have it on for 7+ hours, and occasionally if I want a fast tan I’ll wait for a min of 2 hours just in case – but it would be nice if the packaging was more specific.

Overall I love this product. Everyone is different and I think I talked about all major points, so it’s up to you to see what you value. For me, the most important factors are the final color, then my comfort level as the product develops, then the smell, and the rest are last on my priority list (price, longevity, wait time, etc).

I’ve tried so many self tanners and this one is by far the easiest and quickest to use with the best and longest lasting results! Many foaming self tanners are sticky, take a lot of effort to rub in, don’t apply evenly and you have to wait hours for them to work then wash them off.

The Maui Babe dark sunless tanner goes on so easily with a mitt (it does overspray though, so spray it close to your skin or directly onto the mitt) and it rubs in so easily and dries down instantly! And it smells amazing! I can apply it and go and not have to worry about staining clothes or feeling sticky and gross.

It is also one of the darkest but most natural looking results I’ve ever gotten from a self tanner! I typically see results in 2-4 hours and it reaches its full color in 6-8 hours. It lasts about a week if I moisturize every day.

Be sure to exfoliate the skin before application so it isn’t patchy. I would recommend this tanner to anyone, even if you are a beginner with self tanning!.

My first applications were straight out of the bottle with the spray bottle. I wanted more control so I use those gray sponge painting applicators that you use an arts and crafts. Specially for my hands and my feet.

This was a Game changer. For those of you who are new to tanning products or are afraid to use it straight out of the bottle and want more control try it with those little disposable brushes. It’s perfect.

This product is not for the faint at heart. The dark version is very dark. I use the light on my hands and my feet around my neck and on my face. Perfect every time. Make sure you exfoliate and moisturize your skin the night before so you don’t have dry patches.

You will love it.

This provided a very subtle colour increase. Maybe one shade darker possibly two. I applied it with a tanning mitt, so next time I will use my hands to see if it goes darker. What I like: the ‘fake-tan’ smell is very mild.

(I don’t think it’s possible to create a fake tan that DOESN’T smell like fake tan!) What I don’t like: it is the same colour/texture as the Cream Cleanser and Body Lotion – so when you put it on, you can’t see where you have already applied it.

I prefer fake tans that have a colour to them to help you rub it over your skin evenly. Also, one layer was fine, but I reapplied a day later and I ended up having speckly-looking legs. Will I buy again: probably not the larger tube, but I think I might always have this smaller tube in the bottom of my cupboard for a quick-fix as I head out the door, without having to worry too much about the tell-tale smells of fake-tan following me.

I will use it just to put on my lower legs to make sure I don’t blind people in winter when I’m wearing my 3/4 leggings out walking! I certainly would not be relying on it to provide me with enough tan to be out in my bikinis though.

Love this self-tanner. It slowly adds color so that you never look orange and you can really get a nice buildable color. I tend to apply it every 3-4 days since I am fair skinned and don’t want to get too dark.

I use a body lotion behind my knees and ankles, and at my elbows. It never looks blochty, just super nice and glowey.
