20 Best Sulfate Free Shampoo And Conditioner For Curly Hair (2023 Updated)

I had bought this shampoo and conditioner and leave in conditioner some time ago and have only used it periodically. I did like the way my hair looked on the first day that I washed and conditioned it.

Day 2 not so much. By day three my hair was like dry sticky , frizzy straw so I would have to re-shampoo and condition. I used to only wash my hair 2-3 times per week. But I can’t go more than 2 days without washing with this product.

But I can’t use this product more than once every two weeks. It is way to heavy and makes my hair feel gross, matted and sticky. So I was alternating it with a cheaper plain moisturizing shampoo and conditioner in between using this.

That was ok. It took several washings with the cheap stuff to get the Lus out. So I got the curl benefits for about two weeks. I ordered another bottle of LUS shampoo and it took so long to get it that I tried another curly hair product that is much cheaper and gives me far better results without turning my hair into a dry matted mess in 2 days.

Kinda wish I would’ve returned the shampoo I bought now. I probably won’t use it and haven’t opened it. I likely won’t order any more hair products from here. I did however love their tips on caring for curly hair.

Was so excited to try this because it looked refreshing but was quickly disappointed upon opening! The. smell of this is disgustingly strong! Smells like you are pouring a bottle of perfume on your head.

I used it once and not sure that I’ll use it again because it’s just too much. What a waste. This had potential but the smell is way too overpowering. A clarifying shampoo should not be masked with so much perfume.

This product went beyond my expectations! I’m a fan of anything Micellar water! Immediately upon application I got a nice lather and my hair felt softer than clouds ! Left my hair feeling super clean and looking healthy.

This product is amazing.

It’s very thin, like water, so cannot put in hand. Small squirt spread over head lathers well and washes beautifully. Very light fragrance. Leaves hair fresh and clean!

Absolute best shampoo I have ever tried. I usually have kind of an itchy scalp. It feels like there’s build up on it as well because my skin isn’t very oily. I usually do oil treatments to help treat my dry scalp, but this amazing shampoo has helped me completely skip this.

It’s the best shampoo because it’s the only shampoo I’ve tried that cleanses but is actually moisturizing too. I like that it has natural ingredients because it doesnt add to the build up feeling and cleanses.

I also like that you can use a lot of it without drying your hair if you really want to massage your scalp and cleanse it. I’ve turned my boyfriend onto it as well even tho his hair is super oily. It’s honestly the only thing that has helped my scalp and cured it.

I have low porosity, dry hair that’s kinda medium-coarse & medium thick, curl pattern that’s hard to identify, kinda 2c with some 3a I guess, but it really varies all over my head?, but getting quite long, so it’s hard to balance actually cleaning my scalp without parching my ends.

My co-wash was fine, but shampooing was usually annoying bc I knew my hair would take a hit. But this one really does it! Was nervous at first bc of how much it lathered (that’s usually a bad sign), but was pleasantly surprised at how moisturizing it felt even while working it into my hair.

And after air drying, my curls are back! They’d started to lose their shape and look just wavy & fried & sad before this. Of course, this doesn’t provide enough slip to detangle, but I usually do that after washing anyway with a couple rounds of conditioning.

The scent is nice & mild, a little floral and fruity.

Lovely lather, simply clean and nourishingly hydrating with an aromatic and sensual fragrance that lightly lingers. My hair is without frizz, static and feels incredibly soft, bouncy and thick. I switched from Mane Choice’s Peach Black Tea Anti-shedding Volume Therapy because of their unacceptable formula change after they were recently bought out.

I was looking for something equally light and cleansing because I oil my long hair and this is perfect. I pair it with the leave in conditioner, but rinse clean, and my hair looks and feels amazing.

This conditioner is amazing. If you have curly hair that’s hard to manage, this could save so much time and so many headaches. I’ve gone through so many products that either make my hair more frizzy, or flatten my curls.

This keeps my hair smooth, yet bouncy and it’s really really hydrating. Usually I use argan oil in my hair after a shower, but with this, I don’t even need to. It also leaves my hair really soft. I love it and will definitely buy it again.

I have hair that is half wavy/curly and half slightly wavy/straight, which makes for quite the challenge in both styling and care. I have found products that seem to control my hair adequately, but they are unfortunately quite expensive, so I am always on the quest for different, cheaper, more readily-available products.

Unfortunately, my trial of “L’Oreal EverCurl Sulfate-Free Conditioner” was a huge disappointment. Despite applying a massive amount of conditioner and letting it soak in for several minutes (up to 20 on certain trials!), my hair didn’t feel conditioned AT ALL.

It wasn’t soft, wasn’t de-tangled, and was just as frizzy as it was prior to using the conditioner. My curls weren’t defined in the least. Once this conditioner was rinsed out, my hair felt squeaky-clean, which might sound like a good thing, but it felt TOO clean, as if I had only stripped it with a cleanser, and hadn’t conditioned it at all.

What this conditioner does have going for it is that it is lightweight (so it doesn’t weigh down the hair) and has a very “gentle” fresh scent. I am sensitive to smell, and this conditioner’s gentle scent is far from offensive.

I figured out that I could use this conditioner and then use coconut oil for my hair to feel conditioned and de-tangled with defined curls, but the conditioner alone couldn’t do that.

I received these products free from Influenster, but all opinions are my own. My boyfriend tested these products for me because his hair is very, very curly! He absolutely loved this product. The first good thing about it is that it is a Vegan product.

As an animal lover, hearing that this product was cruelty was surprising and exciting. Finding Vegan products is hard, especially for affordable ones like L’Oreal’s new EverCurl line. The second wonderful thing about this product is that it is sulfate-free.

Sulfates are found in the majority of products these days, and that is surprising because of how bad it is as it dries out your hair. Here is my boyfriend’s response to the shampoo: “The shampoo smelt wonderful from the first time I opened it.

It smells of coconut, but not too much. It’s a nice tint to the smell, and I love it. Most sulfate-free shampoos do not lather up well, but this one did a great job of lathering my hair and leaving it feeling clean afterward.

The texture of the shampoo was nice. It wasn’t too runny and it wasn’t too thick. This product is a perfect mash-up along with its conditioner. I would recommend this to anyone with curly hair who loves animals and taking care of their hair.

The only issue I had with it was that the cap didn’t close correctly the first time I used it. “.

I tried this for a week hoping my curls would love it but for some reason it really dried out my hair. It smells lovely and is inexpensive but I think that curls need moisture to look shiny and bouncy and this needs more of that.

The matching conditioner did not help either! Did not finish it because life is too short for bad hair days.

I would DIE FOR THIS CONDITIONER. Okay maybe not but if you smell it you will agree, it gives some kind of intense feeling. It smells better than a Pina colada ever did. And it leaves hair so SO soft and happy, you could run your fingers through it all day (if you weren’t worried about disturbing the perfection of your beautiful curls!) Definitely a keeper.

I have used DevaCurl’s NoPoo for about 7 years now, and was looking for a new non-lather poo. This was one of the few products that fit the description. I really wanted to like it but my 3c hair hated it.

It was not cleansing at all. I felt like I needed to use more product just to cleanse my scalp. It was very drying and did not moisturize my hair. My hair felt dry and matted every time I used it. I followed it up with the Curls conditioner but that was worse and left my hair greasy.

I do not recommend these products. Will stick with DevaCurl.

Curls is a must have staple when you have curly hair. My daughter’s hair is just as picky as she is! But once I put that hair milk it’s like her hair just came alive. It keeps her hair moisturized and all the products smell amazing.

The only downfall is that it would be better if it was a little thicker.

I am really happy with how effective this leave-in conditioner is. I have shoulder-length medium thick wavy hair and I prefer a lot of hydration in my products. I can put 1 full pump of this in after shampoo (or shampoo and conditioner) and it detangles and defrizzes without weighing my hair down.

It doesn’t have strong definition, but it is enough to stop my frizz. I also find the scent to be pleasant and light. I occasionally put a little on my dry hair to define/tame my curls as well.

Ladies, you have to use the WHOLE system to see true results. Can’t just use shampoo and conditioner to see much of a difference. Pending on your curl type, you need to use the finishing products after the shampoo and conditioner.

I was skeptical at first, so I purchased the “Starter Kit” for my curl type. When I used all 4 products together, WOW!!!!! My curls have never looked so good! It’s not cheap when you go into buying all 4 in full size.

But, oh so worth it! I’ve recommended this line to several people, and they have all agreed with me you have to use the entire line to really get the full benefit, especially the Curl Defininf Gel. That’s a life changer!!! My hair dresser LOVES Living Proof everything, and recommended this line to me.

Not useful for curly hair. Doesn’t detangle and it’s impossible to comb my hair in the shower. Which if you have curly hair that’s when a lot of us widetooth comb it! Doesn’t smell good. Reminds me of a free sample from a budget motel.

Scalp super itchy. I love the curl cream from LP, so I gave it a shot but I should’ve listened to the reviews. I got the smaller one to try it out before getting a big bottle and had to use more than usual trying to condition my hair so it’s almost gone already.

Might be good as a second conditioner after combing it out with a different product, but there’s just so many other better products out there. Really don’t recommend skip this and try something else.

I am confused by some of the reviews. This shampoo is NOT sulfate-free and it contains protein. If your hair is protein sensitive, then it will definitely feel like straw after using it. Even more so if you use multiple products with protein in them.

If your hair feels like straw after using this, then deep condition with a protein-free conditioner and it will help balance out the protein/moisture content of your hair. It’s a good shampoo. Cleanses my hair and scalp well.

I don’t use it more than once a week because it is a sulfate shampoo. More than that and my hair/scalp would suffer negative effects. I have low porosity, curly hair (3B-ish) that is prone to build up.

This does an excellent job of removing any build up from co-washes or styling products. It may not suds up like some shampoos, but that isn’t necessary. A good scalp brush (silicone) and a few minutes of gentle scrubbing and you’re good.

I like this conditioner and I have been using it for sometime. The price for the two pack was very reasonable. My only issue was when was produced in Vancouver and another in another city in Canada. One came with a foil seal on top and the other did not.

Because of this, I I was concerned that possibly one was counterfeit, but after a lot of research online I realize they have two factories that produce this product. Both bottles are the actual product!.

I have 2A/2B fine hair and this shampoo works so perfectly for me! I was afraid it would be too heavy but my hair is always shiny and bouncy after I use it. My hair loves coconut oil but if I use too much I get weighed down, there is not a lot of coconut oil in this so it isn’t too heavy.

Keep in mind, if your hair doesn’t tolerate coconut oil or protein this might make your hair feel dry, which explains the negative reviews. This shampoo smells great and lathers a ton and it’s so creamy! I can’t really describe the smell but it is definitely different, maybe like.

I received a sample from pinch me for my honest review. I received the John Frieda frizz-ease dream curls conditioner and I really didn’t have high hopes I just thought oh it’s a conditioner I don’t think it’s going to make much of a difference.

I started using this product and while I was in the shower and I was applying it to my hair it felt really smooth and soft I love how this conditioner smells. I really didn’t need a whole lot of product and that’s because I have really long hair.

I usually have to add a lot of conditioner but with this product I didn’t have to add a lot. When I rinse the conditioner off my hair felt so smooth and soft and I could see my curls in the shower that they were already forming.

So I dry my hair and brush it and as it’s drying my hair has so much definition you could see the curls clearly without me adding any extra product on it. I wanted to see how the conditioner would leave my hair without adding anything extra on it and it did leave my hair with curls it look like I had styled it but I hadn’t styled my hair.

I also noticed less frizz I wouldn’t say that my frizz was completely gone but I did notice that it wasn’t as frizzy. I really love that it’s sulfate-free. I definitely recommend giving this conditioner a try especially if you have curly hair and some shampoo and conditioners that I use can weigh my hair down.

The John Frieda frizz-ease dream curls definitely gave more definition to My curls and made my hair less frizzy. This is definitely a conditioner worth trying.

I was so excited to receive John Frieda’s DREAM CURLS CONDITIONER in my PinchMe sample box last month! I have enthusiastically used John Frieda products in the past, with phenomenal results. DREAM CURLS CONDITIONER was no exception! It took my dull, lifeless, limp, wavy hair from blah to beautiful in a matter of minutes, leaving soft, touchable, vibrant, flowing spirals of gorgeous healthy hair.

I’m not sure what it would do to a person with naturally straight hair,but as a conditioner alone, it definitely hits the mark on all necessary points for me so I would actually recommend it to anyone.

I was excited to try John Frieda’s Dream Curls Conditioner product with a good size tube sent to me by PINCHme. I have very fine limp hair but when I turned 6o my straight, limp hair developed a wavy curl for the bottom five or six inches.

It was cute to go natural but I needed a new product to give my hair some bounce and volume. When I looked at the prices of products at the store, prices were over $5. 00 and there was no guarantee that they would be just what I desired.

PINCHme sent me this trial of John Frieda’s Dream Curl’s Conditioner and I was eager to see if this was going to work. The product was to be used after shampooing and rinsed out. My hair immediately felt different after I rinse it out.

When I styled as usual, it made my hair like silk and there were no tangles. My hair felt great but I did not have any of the natural curl that my hair took on after 60. This product would be great for hair that has very defined curls, perhaps permed.

It was not right for what I needed. Next time, I think I will try a product by John Frida for adding volume to fine, limp hair. Thank you PINCHme for giving me this opportunity to try this hair product.

I’ve seen a lot of mixed reviews about this shampoo and I just want to throw in my experience. I have incredibly fine and oily 2C/3A curls. Most curly hair products out there are made for much thicker, drier hair, and always leave my hair flat, greasy, and stringy.

This shampoo was recommended to me by my hairstylist of almost 10 years who also has finer curly hair like me. after years trying every clean curly product i can find, Wella really nailed it with their nutricurls line.

I LOVE it and have even tried other products after with no such luck. I always go back to my nutricurls 🙂 so if you have fine wavy/light curls, give this a shot!.

I used to absolutely love this shampoo paired with the same line’s conditioner. It made my waves so beautiful, and way more manageable than they’d been with other shampoos and conditioners. The reason I’m only giving four stars though is that, although it’s sulfate free, my color faded.

After switching to a color-safe-specific shampoo and conditioner, my color hasn’t faded. If I ever go back to my natural color, I’ll absolutely start using Nutricurls again.

All in all I thought this product was good. The only bad thing I have to say about it is that it has a strange smell that made me feel a bit sick. It did %100 detangle my hair, it also wasn’t fast dying so left my hair soft for longer.

I would recommend if you don’t mind the smell.

This shampoo works wonders on my naturally curly hair. I use with Curls Unleashed Moisturizer in the shower. After I rinse out, I apply the Curls Unleashed Leave In Conditioner. I am Caucasian with very fine, naturally curly, frizzy, dry hair.

With these products my hair fails into beautiful curls with no frizz. I’m very happy with this product. I’ve been using over a year and plan to continue indefinitely!.

I love all of the ORS Curls Unleashed collection and this, as well as the curl refresher, are my favourite! They do just what is advertised on their packaging. The smell could be improved though. Nonetheless it is an amazing product.

Keeps your hair soft and easy to manage. It’s affordable and I will purchase it over and over and over again.

I have 2C wavy hair that tends to be quite dry, frizzy, and tangly– but my scalp and roots tend to be oily. I loved my natural waves, but often ended up just putting my dry, tangled hair up in an easy ponytail because I couldn’t make my hair look good down.

But this shampoo and conditioner have saved and revitalized my hair! Using this shampoo and conditioner and following the curly-hair methods I learned in the videos on the LUS website, my long waves are now bouncy and glossy without being weighted-down.

I don’t use a lot of the shampoo, but I use a very generous amount of the conditioner. Because of my oily scalp, I start the conditioner a few inches from my roots and distribute it with a wide-toothed comb, with extra for the ends!, leaving it in for a few minutes before rinsing it out with cold water.

I usually let it air dry (my preference), but if I don’t have time, I dry gently with a curl diffuser, and it looks great either way. The litres are easier to use than the smaller bottles, and last longer, and I love the large, sturdy pump (though the pump can’t get out the last tenth of the product– the one design flaw in otherwise wonderful packaging).

I go through the shampoo and conditioner at different rates, but that’s okay– I just try to have another two-pack ready to choose what I need from at any time. ;).

Before Lus my long wavy (but dry) hair used to get really matted and knotted – so bad large clumps would fall out in the shower (causing thinning in spots) or at times I’d have to resort to cutting tangles out (gasp).

But now my hair loss is kept to a minimum (and has even grown back in) and my beautiful mermaid waves are accented, healthy and less frizzy. I can go a whole week without washing my hair and still the waves look great.

The myriad of ‘other’ hair care products I’ve tried over the years remain abandoned in the cupboard – because after discovering Lus a year ago, well, it’s the only product line I use now. I’m in my sixties and while most women cut their hair short as they age….

This is the best shampoo and conditioner I have ever used in my 46 years! Have been looking for a shampoo that doesnt bubble up like crazy and leave my hair like hay for years, and a conditioner that actually makes a difference once its rinsed out – eureka I’ve found them!!! I have unruly wavy hair, with blonde highlights, tending to dryness and frizz.

The shampoo cleanses without stripping, and the conditioner just melts into my hair leaving it super manageable and shiny. You dont need a ton either, its nicely concentrated. I love it, and my daughter adores it so much she almost used up my small bottles – hence I upsized to the litre set! Expensive, but worth the $$, I don’t wash everyday anyhow (another earlier revelation!) and I alternate with less expensive product some days to make my LUS last longer.

Did I mention it smells like freakin heaven and i would easily wear a perfume version of the scent? (In fact got the hair perfume – closest thing to that lol) Thanks LUS!!.

Before I began using the Mizani True Textures Curl Balance Moisturizing Sulfate-Free Shampoo my hair was a frizzy, curly mess! It was so dull and dry and just lacked life! Since using this miracle shampoo my hair has transformed to vibrant, shiny, healthy, curly hair! I use this shampoo and the MIZANI Supreme Oil Conditioner daily or every 2 days and my hair has never looked better! I use the MIZANI True Textures Curl Replenish Intense Moisturizing Mask once or twice a week! This combination of Mizani products works awesome for me!.

This Mizani True Textures Curl Balance Shampoo is OK. It didn’t strip my hair of moisture which was nice, the product smelt lovely and did clean my hair well. However, the major flaw in this shampoo is that I required half the bottle to lather/clean my hair which really isn’t great from a consumer point of view.

I think that this may be the problem with most sulphate free shampoos though.

My hair is fine, and any sort of weight knocks my curls out, so I was really impressed with this Mizani product – it felt greasy going on, and you certainly don’t need a conditioner afterwards (I hate two-in-one products!), but after a rinse, I found my curls soaked up the moisturising, my hair had sheen and there’s no build-up at all.

A little goes a long way, and since you’ll never need conditioner (and my hair’s dry, and NEEDS conditioner), this is a really cost effective product.

This product really moisturizes my dry, kinky curly type 4 hair! Garnier, please keep this product, please don’t change it! The recently discontinued Moisture Lock Conditioner was my favourite. now it’s gone.

but this is great! The only thing I would change is leaving out the Isopropyl Alcohol, but the product is great. The silicones are useful and necessary for smoothing and sealing in moisture. ladies don’t fear silicones, once you cleanse your hair regularly.

This is a great product. (now if only Garnier would change the Pure Clean shampoo main ingredient back to the gentler Ammonium Lauryl Sulfate like it previously had, rather than the harsher Sodium Sulfate it now has.
