20 Best Stretches For Neck And Shoulder Pain (2023 Updated)

Anybody who suffers from migraines and/or tension headaches will tell you how many things theyve tried in order to prevent or stop headaches. I cant begin to count ho many things Ive tried over the years and most dont work.

While this hard, weird little pillow thingie doesnt work for my migraines, it DOES work wonders for headaches that get their start from neck pain and tension. It helps to ease neck pain from tight muscles caused by working at a computer or laptop all day or from sitting in one position too long while driving or traveling.

This device is hard enough that it doesnt compress when you lay on it, and you can use it like you would a muscle roller as well. Hold the part that isnt curved and has the squared off edge, and push the rounded edge along your back, side, thigh, etc.

Works easier if you take off the fishnet fabric cover first. You can also use this more towards your shoulders if they feel tight, or even put it under one shoulder to kind of dig into a tight group of muscles to mimic trigger point release.

Works as a way to stretch tight arches and help relieve plantar fasciitis, tooIt might take you a few tries to find the best position in which to use this, so dont give up on it should it not work for you on the first or second try.

I use these neck stretchers to supplement the stretch exercisesI do. It took a while before there was any improvement but there definitely was less pain. The advantage of this StrongTek version is that its smaller than the Trobing stretcher.

When Im away from home, the StrongTek version is easier to pack in my bag.

Noticed a difference right away. I do use it every night now. I have a three bad discs with stenosis. I have tried every pillow available. Chiropractor. Cervical epidural shots / Steroid shots (ruined my thyroid).

Nerve ablation. I love that this is drug free. I recommend start out slowly. Maybe just put it on and do not pump it up the first time, and I HIGHLY recommend that you have someone home and around the first few times until you get comfortable with how to get out of it yourself! Especially if you are claustrophobic at all!! It does take some time to get used to getting out it yourself.

Another trick: keep the “key” release attached to the pump so you always have it handy so you can release the pressure after you have pumped the brace up. Otherwise, once I got the hang of it, I fell in love with it! I have much more range of motion in my neck! Glad I splurged for this item!.

Purchased for my husband’s chronic neck pain/headaches. Chiropractor has helped temporarily but he loves this device and hasn’t had a headache since he’s started using it! He can turn his neck from side to side w/o pain or “cracking noises”.

I am almost 68 & have multi-level disc herniations, stenosis,radiculopathy, & more in my entire spine. I bought this a few months ago to help me stretch & benefit from this device. After opening, I realized How Am I Going to get onto the floor on top of this? Well, I did by holding onto a recliner seat, then got on my knees & then kind of fell down on it.

Be sure everything is plugged in & remote is handy, because getting up from it is even worse. for me anyway. The directions are very limited, & do not explain what each level does or how it can be beneficial.

I was unsure where to begin. The remote was just as confusing. I did feel better after the 8 minutes I spent on it on day one. Set a timer so you do not over stretch your body on the first day. I really wanted to like this device, but it is not for me.

Since it is way to late to return, I will donate it & include some instructions for the new owner. Even Homedics website does not offer any further instruction on using this device. I wish QVC would include in their presentations on TV & video, how we should get down onto the floor & on top of this.

I was VERY hesitant to buy this mat. It’s a bit of money and I didn’t want to get sucked into a gimmick. I need to make a point before my answer. I have a high arch on my left foot and it has been falling for the last several months.

It is very painful. I need to wear Vionics or any other type shoe with a hard arch on that foot. Because this has been going on for the last couple of months, my back is affected by it as well. This is the reason for purchasing this Compression Mat.

I figured if it didn’t offer any assistance, I could send it back before 30 days were up. I WILL NOT BE SENDING THIS MAT BACK. It has made me feel so much better. It loosen my muscles and gives me more movement.

I’m happy with it. My foot is will be something I’ll have to deal with for the rest of my life. There are Orthotics I can get made to assist but they are expensive. This Mat is a cost that I really can’t afford right now BUT the freedom it gives my back.

Well it’s all worth it.

I looked at the first version of this a lot. I am a pharmacist and spend 8-12 hours on my feet. I also recently switched locations and I find i am standing still more than before and it has done a number on my back.

I got this yesterday and tried it right away. First impressions it is so solid I love how it folds into itself so nicely, although it would be nice if there was a place for the cord and pillow to go when all stored.

Cord is a tad too short another foot and it would be perfect. As for the heat great amount for what it is but as stated in the presentation it is a small amount of heat so now heating pad quality at all.

This heating pad on its lowest setting, would be nice if they update it again if they had more heat options. As for the programs. They are nice although I can’t tell them all apart yet to have a favorite.

Inflation is nice although it would be nice if they could inflate a bit higher, my back was soo close to the perfect pop position but just not quite there so if they could just make the chambers slightly larger it would be perfect, again to each their own so some people there might be just enough.

A truly great update would be if you could do a run your own program, like if they had sections you could tell it to focus on or control each chamber individually. Or you could even just tell it to pause in a position for longer or repeat a movement.

The pausing the program is nice but it deflates the area which makes sense but there were a couple times I wanted to hold a position for a bit longer. Overall happy with the purchase and I do think it will help my back a lot.

I have back problems especially middle and lower. I remove the pads and it helps my muscles relax so much so at times that I can feel my back being realigned. It hurts at times when laying on it but soon the tension is gone.

Love it and have 2 of them; one at my home and one at my daughter’s. Saves me chiropractor trips.

I’ve had one of these for several years and it really helps my neck when it starts hurting after too much time at the computer at work. I gave mine to my son because he tried it and said it really helped his back.

Couldn’t get along without one though so I bought this one. A co-workers swears by his.

Waited to review until I used product for few weeks. The benefits from using this device are outstanding. I have chronic costochondritis, degenerative disc disease & scoliosis. After a few weeks, pain levels are diminished greatly & mobility in back & neck muscles has increased.

Posture has improved. I do use it for about 20-30 minutes daily as my condition is chronic. The recommended exercises that are illustrated in accompanying pamphlet are beneficial also. Highly recommend for those with similar troubling conditions.

For the price the quality is not as good as I expect of more stronger in structure not a plastic one. The effect of the product I am still under trial investigation whether the right device for my inflammed muscles around the ribs and shoulder pain.

After open heart surgery was left with tightness in my rib cage when breathing. Drs advice was to take anti inflammatory drugs-which did little to help. Discovered Backpod during a YouTube search-so glad I did- after only using for a week so far already feeling the benefits.

Plus great support from the inventor who answered all my questions prior to purchase.

Product is well made and comfortable enough. Was worried by reviews talking about the ‘D’ loops being triangles but they must have sorted this issue as mine had ‘D’ loops. The only issue with this product is IMO the chain length.

Many such harness products do not have the chain attach right at the temples, but have 3-5 inch straps coming from the temples which the chain attaches to, which means the weights hang lower. This product probably has same length of chain as others, but does not compensate for the fact it attaches to the temples, considerably reducing how low the weights hang.

I find this a real issue. In fairness the pictures shown are accurate, but doesn’t change the problem. If you look at the pictures used you can see how short the chain is even with just a tiny 2. 5kg plate on it.

Obviously more/thicker plates fill out the chain and reduce how low it hangs. Even with only the 2. 5kg in the picture the weight is already at his chest like a medallion, more weight brings it even higher making it a bit awkward to work with when getting it attached as there is so little chain to work with, coupled with the fact you cannot see the clips you are using when they are at temples instead of end of strap that you can see.

Look at how low this chain loop hangs in the picture compared to how low the loop hangs on other products with the straps. I like that it doesn’t have the straps but they definitely should have compensated by making the chain longer by the same length as the straps most have, so it hangs at the right distance.

I bought this neck harness a couple weeks ago. The build quality is good and it is comfortable to wear. Well-padded and the straps don’t feel like they’re cutting into or rubbing against my skin at all.

Not much to complain about on that front. However, there is one big flaw. The soft half of the velcro on the strap at the back of my head doesn’t extend far enough to match up to the other half properly and securely.

Because of this, I had to wear it a bit loose, which is obviously less than ideal when you’re lifting weights with your neck. Now I don’t know to what extent others have the same issue – maybe I just have a strangely small head – but just know that it doesn’t universally fit all head shapes and sizes.

It’s a shame because it’s such an easy thing to fix by the manufacturer; just extend the soft velcro line alone the strap. I sew on another piece of velcro and now it works fine but it cost me another £6 to buy the equipment for that.

So overall, if you have a small (or rather short in terms of horizontal length) head and you aren’t keen on possibly spending extra money and/or effort to make it suit you, then I’d probably look elsewhere.

Also, the fact that it is missing this isn’t a complaint, but if I were the manufacturer, I’d add D-rings to the front and back of the device, so you can train the front and back of your neck without using the chain.

In terms of durability the thing seems solid and well-built, but I haven’t used it long enough to make a comment on that.

There’s not enough velcro on the back of the head strap so it can’t adjust tight enough for me. There’s a large gap with no velcro as shown in the picture. If this gap contained velcro, it would easily fit my head.

I feel like this is a design flaw that could easily be fixed to fix more people and it sacrifices nothing. I ended up going with Hustle. I would consider the Hustle harness to be of the same quality and construction as DMoose, but it adjusts smaller to fit my head.

The Hawk harness is also nice, but the velcro straps are split in two, so there’s a flap on each end instead of one end going through a loop. Hawk also lacks padding on the chin and back of the head strap.

If you have a fire hydrant for a head, the DMoose harness will probably accommodate you. Not sure about my head size, but I wear a size medium motorcycle helmet. Hope that helps. For what it’s worth, I contacted DMoose to share my disappointment.

They responded in less than an hour with an apology, an explanation as to their choice in making it so large (to accommodate more fire hydrant heads), and recommending using a towel to fill the gap. If there weren’t other harnesses available that fit me, I would have stuck with DMoose.

I purchased this yoga strap to use for rehab exercises after bilateral knee replacement surgery. I use it multiple times each day to stretch my leg muscles, to aid in lifting my legs in and out of bed, and to aid in flexing my knees to keep each one limber in range of motion and radius.

The looped handholds stitched along the strap are perfect for shortening or loosening the grip as stretching exercises are done.

Recently had total knee replacement surgery. Post-surgery, I had a lot of difficulty bending my knee. My PT used this strap at the facility bcuz I was too stiff and did not have good range of motion.

The strap was such a help with both the straightening and bending of my knee, I bought my own to use at home. I love it! And I highly recommend this strap as an aid for range of motion stretching post total knee replacement surgery.

The stretch out strap is great. I needed something to assist with physical therapy. post injury it helps to guide a stretch slowly. I like the loops I can put my feet or hands into. This strap can also assist with an awesome exercise routine.

Good product. I would’ve given a 5 star rating but the pressure doesn’t hold. I set it at 15 and within a minute or so have to add more pressure to return to 15. I have to do this about 3 times throughout a 10” session.

Otherwise easy to use and materials are of good quality.

This product was use on me by my physical therapist so I decided to get the same product for home use. It is simple to use and convenient. So far it has help up well for me and my orthopedic Dr approves of my using it.

IšverstiShow in original languageI got this because my favorite shiatsu pillow was discontinued, and I’d hoped that this one would be able to target harder muscles like the sides of my neck, and parts of my legs/feet, etc.

It does do that well! However, when I pull harder to apply more pressure to some of my deeper knots, the rotating mechanism slows and stops moving. So it’s good if you’re not trying to get real deep.

I’ve had it now for just over two weeks and used it every day. As far as quality of product, the pump stopped working about 10 days in. Took it apart, greased the shaft and now works buy only pumps air on the push, it was pumping on both push and pull before.

So that’s that. On the effectiveness of it, my cervical problem is considered “severe” and am trying to buy time and push surgery as far away as possible. Heaving said that, 2 weeks in of everyday use, i either don’t feel any better or it’s barely marginal at all.

But take that with a grain of salt, my problem/body may reapond different than yours. It should work, maybe it will down the line. It should at least help a little bit, decompression is decompression.

But it hasn’t yet. I haven’t “popped” or “cracked”at all at 20-22psi. Supposedly significant decompression happens between 25-30psi, but with my situation I can’t push it past 22psi yet. Besides, your head wants to come off the plank as the head strap holds it in as you bump up the pressure, making it feel uncomfortable to day the least.

There was one other device that had a brace looking thing that went around your neck. That made more sense to me, but i bought the Sainders because of the better/more reviews. So take all that in consideration, there are others that say they have relief on first use and I don’t see why they would lie about this.

But it’s probably very “situation specific”.

My doctor prescribed traction physical therapy for my stenosis and bulging disc condition, but the PT time is pretty limited over the course of a week, so I bought this for home use. It is pretty good, and feels similar to the machine at PT, with a couple exceptions.

1. The PT machine pulls for several seconds, then slowly releases at intervals. I have to manually do this with the Saunders unit, but that’s acceptable. 2. The PT machine releases at a slow, controlled rate, while the Saunders releases pressure all at once.

This isn’t comfortable, but I can control the release to some extent by putting a finger over a little air hole as I release. That is mostly acceptable. 3. While on hold, the pressure drops over a few minutes.

For example, if I set it to 20 lbs, it’s at 15 lbs after 4 or 5 minutes. This is only somewhat acceptable. I still find value in what the Saunders unit does for me, but it’s a little disappointing in this regard.

Because of this, I can only half-heartedly recommend this device, and only if you can afford it and know it’s shortcomings.

i have had several cervical muscle spasms within the last few years, and extreme muscle tension that causes headaches / sometimes migraines. i felt so helpless for months, going to the chiropractor, osteopath, getting massages.

all of which were costing me so much money. now, having worked for a chiropractor (several actually), i can definitely say that this device will only be beneficial and safe if compression is your issue.

and even if it is the right machine for you, do NOT overdue it. i have been doing 5 minutes every night, and immediately using an ice pack on my neck after for about 1 1/2 weeks now, and am slowly increasing the time GRADUALLY.

This is my second Dr Ho’s neck support. It is awesome for stretching your upper vertebrae, and taking the “kinks” out of your neck, when your have stiffness and pain!!! The pressure to the top pillow can be adjusted with a bead valve in the pressurizing tube, which allows you to stop the air flow to the uppermost air chamber when it is most comfortable to You.

Just move the bead into the pressure tube, to stop the air flow when the top pillow is comfortable to you, and, if you desire, continue to pressurize the lower two air chambers, until you decide they are giving you maximum comfort, and benefit, for Your needs.

There is also a bead valve in the main line, that can be utilized to help keep the air from leaking out, if you desire to keep Your Dr Ho’s neck support inflated for long periods. As when you may be using it as a head support for sleeping in the seat of a plane, bus, or automobile on a long trip.

Great for these purposes because it is so adjuustable, by simply controling how much presure You desire, by infllating the neck support to Your own customized perfect comfort, by gently squeezing the inflator bulb until your head is supported on a cushion of air! Deflates in seconds for storage or portability by simply twisting the inflator bulb counter clockwise and releasing the pressure in all three pillows.

Very ueeful, and well designed, using strong yet “soft to the touch” materials. Highly reccomend!!!.

Great for 2 very important uses: 1. Traveling. Because of its design, it pushes the head up on the neck column, not forward the way other inflatables do. Like other inflatables, it shrinks down to an easily-carried size when not in use.

Having the ability to release just some of the pressure easily is handy when you hit altitude and the thinner air makes it necessary to release the now-expanded air to remain comfortable. 2. Sore neck.

It can be pumped high enough to traction a stiff neck; alternately pumping it up and releasing the air creates a massage effect. My only concern is that this is the second one I have had to buy, because the first one developed a leak after a couple of years.

I am hoping this one will last longer.

I think the product is fine but there were no instructions on how to use it properly. So I do not want to use it until I can figure out a way to use it without damaging my lower back.

They use the same straps at physical therapy. I did not realize how much more limber I would be. It’s a straight forward product and seems durable enough. There’s a booklet inside with many more types of stretches.

Some seem a little tricky and I will, therefore, stick to what PR assigned me.

I own several heating pads, all made by Sunbeam. I have this neck wrap (two of them) and a larger one that is about double the length (for the neck and back). One awesome innovation with these heating pads is that they can be machine washed.

I recently washed them for the first and only time, following the exact instructions that are printed directly on the heating pad/s. When I went to use them again not one worked. First I tried one, then the other, then the other, they wouldn’t heat up.

It can’t be a coincidence that they stopped working after they were washed. I’m very frustrated because these are not inexpensive heating pads. And if they shouldn’t be washed (or won’t work after they’re washed) they shouldn’t be advertised that are washable!!! It’s hard to give this “X” out of 5 stars because I would give it 5 stars initially but now, ZERO!!.

I bought this heating pad in July of 2020. I chose this heating wrap to help with my knots and pain because the reviews were great. I’m very disappointed. I had a sunbeam heating pad from 2008 until 2018.

It was amazing and my all-time favorite! After 10 years it finally crapped out so I bought the same heating pad to replace it. That heating pad lasted about a year and then crapped out. I replaced it with this heating pad and after only 7 months it’s already basically worthless.

It heats up but the heat only lasts about 15 minutes and then cools off again. It still says it’s on but it’s no longer hot. I’m so frustrated that I spent my money on this heating pad but more than that the face that I can’t get a good and reliable heating pad! Done waste your money on this one.

The heating pad is made of very soft velour material and is very well made. It comes with a long cord and it attached to the left side of the front. It is some what heavy due to the roll along the entire outside of the pad being filled with weighted pellets – which helps it stay in place on the body.

If a person was small or very thin this might be too much weight and be uncomfortable. I had one similar several years ago – the collar was not as high nor the back as long. This is a overall improvement – I love mine – I would recommend this product to anyone who has neck, shoulder and upper back pain, stiffness or muscle aches.

I want to thank you all for a wonderful Stretch Strap. My order for 5 straps came this afternoon 1/28/2017. I use straps teaching my exercise classes & also teaching my Yoga classes. PNF stretching is great for the joints & increasing my students flexibility.

It also allows them to go safely & deeper into the stretch while knowing their limitations. My students love the color! The booklet is great as it shows the muscles being worked & the instructions clear.

I will be ordering again as new students come to my classes. This is a great strap to just keep in your purse to use on trips away from home.

I had a partial knee replacement and was looking for exercises that would help strengthen my hamstring on the applicable leg. One of the physical therapists recommended a stretch band and I subsequently purchased one from Vive.

It is the right size and is doing the job I purchased it for.

Very well made. The instruction booklet is very helpful. There is a photo demonstrating each stretch along with a graphic showing the muscles being stretched. Very helpful. The only improvement I see would be to have the booklet fit into the bag along with the strap.

I purchased two of these PureRelief Neck and Shoulder Heating Pads for gifts for my two best friends who both have neck and shoulder issues. I purchased the Pure Enrichment Pure Relief Neck and Shoulder Heating Pad at our neighborhood Walgreens and was shocked at the price at first ($34. 99), but there there were no other heating pads that could conveniently fit around the neck so I decided to give this a shot.

My first impression was that the color is very nice and rich (I have the dark teal) and the material is high quality. It’s super soft! I love that the heat pack is weighted and is machine washable. I’m using this right now to help with persistent headaches, and it feels so nice.

I also love laying across my belly like a mini weighted heated blanket. The heat is therapeutic and the ergonomic design is great. It’s not quite as hot as I expected but it also doesn’t need to be. This way, I can use it for longer without getting overheated.

The 3 different temperature settings is a bonus!! The auto shut off is another great feature I appreciate. Overall, I feel this was worth the investment since the quality is so high. And most importantly, it’s not going to burn in the microwave because it’s electric! I’m very satisfied my purchase.

After dealing with neck/shoulder pain for years (since the late 1990’s), I was diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease and Cervical Myelopathy. In 2017 I had a cervical fusion done on my C4 and C5 vertebrae.

I received a sample of ACE BRAND KINESIOLOGY SHOULDER SUPPORT from PINCHme for an honest review of my opinion. I regularly suffer from shoulder pain, so this sample was perfect for me to test. I wasn’t disappointed.

The support patch is small but “mighty”! The patch is pretty easy to apply and contours to the curves of the shoulder area pretty well. It is easier if you have somebody help you with the positioning, but you can easily apply it yourself too.

I used it the other weekend while archery hunting. I have injured my shoulder in the past and have found it hard to draw my bow back. However, this really helped to relieve some of that tension this year and I found it easier to draw and less painful.

Better yet, the patch was pretty waterproof and lasted all weekend. If you are looking to avoid taking pain medicine and just need something quick to help with tension and pain while lifting, or pulling, this can certainly be helpful.

My only thought would be the size-it does take up more room then if it were just the rope itself if I was trying to compact in a suitcase, but know you could also take off the beads too.

But overall I’m very happy with it and love that it is adjustable. I’ve been using it everyday post run. It really gives you a great stretch.

IšverstiShow in original languageI use the StretchRite to stretch my hamstrings after running. I like how the strap does not slip off my foot, whether I’m wearing shoes, socks or am stretching barefoot, which is a problem I have with rubber tension bands.

I also appreciate the multiple handgrips because some days I’m tighter than others. The also allow me to deepen my stretch on later repetitions in a set. Plus, they’re a lot easier to hold onto than gripping and pulling with a towel.

I like that this pillow has such rigidity as I need. It certainly is not quite individual, and I have to move it slightly when using it, first slightly up, later slightly down. This is so that all the convex surfaces are activated, because the length of the neck in humans is slightly different.

In general, it is a very pleasant relaxing massager.

I am a chronic neck pain sufferer, I also recently broke my neck in a car accident and was in a hard collar for two months. This product is great for relaxing tight neck muscles. I purchased a second one for my partner who has arthritis in his neck and upper back.

I am a massage therapist and, I suffer from neuropathy. It is difficult for me to reach certain areas for relief. Here is where the Gui neck stretcher become to be of great help.

I have a condition where the pain in my neck comes from a pinching action in my cervical vertabrae. My physical therapist advised me to get this and I used hers on three occasions. Since I received mine, I’ve been using it at home and I definitely feel a difference in the level of pain.

I can go a day or more with much less pain. It is relatively easy to use. The manual is less than helpful, though. My therapist advised that I bend my knees while on my back in order to relax my spine to gain the most benefit.

The one thing I dislike about the device is the head strap is made of very cheap material. It’s scratchy and makes the skin on my forehead itch. Plus the edges of the strap irritate the skin. I’ve put a sock over it and that helps a lot.

Considering on how much I paid for the device, I think the strap could be better made and of softer material. It would be very helpful if the numbers on the pump dial were in a much larger font. It’s impossible to read the numbers when you’re on your back, the room lights are in your eyes, and you’re not wearing your glasses.

I would recommend this device to others.
