20 Best Spray On Weed Killer For Lawns (2023 Updated)

I am so sorry I used this on my Zoysia grass. Label plainly states is safe for Zoysia but I am letting you know “BEWARE”. My beautiful Zoysia lawn is turning brown after trusting Scotts claim ‘kills weeds not the lawn’.

I will never trust Scotts products again. I am so sorry I didn’t trust my instinct from the beginning. Kills weeds alright but apparently Zoysia too!.

I live in the woods and it is a fight to keep a lawn on much of the area close to my house. Over the years I have given in an allowed anything green to stay such as clover, violets and crab grass, but I do eradicate poison oak et al on sight.

I do have some rather large areas on the property where grass is well established and I thought it would be nice to have some expanse of beautiful solid lawn so my neighbors would understand that it isn’t my fault that the wooded areas might be sketchy.

It was easy to attach the bottle of “Roundup For Lawns” snugly to my garden hose, and though I had to drag a hundred feet of hose out into my field, that’s really not to much, when you consider this one bottle covers 5000 sq.

ft. which is an area 50′ X 100′. It took less than an hour in total, including re-reeling the hose. It was a sunny day. I had lunch and piddled around the garage and thought to observe. Barely 3 hours since I started spraying, carcasses of standing weeds were twisted and laying over, and by mid day next, dandelions were drooping and violets were mad at me.

That was yesterday. I can’t say yet that everything is coming up rye grass, but I am off to a good start and the product has been everything as advertised.

This product handled some of my weeds but still have a mixture of odd weeds and grasses. I applied this in between the early spring turf builder and the Thick R Lawn. It required a waiting time of 4 weeks before the Thick R Lawn could be applied.

It is convenient having the hose hook up.

This stuff just flat out works. Like many have said, it takes a bit for it to show results, but rest assured, it will kill whatever you spray it on provided you FOLLOW THE IMSTRUCTIONS on the label. I guess some have quite unrealistic expectations but hey, it does the job and you save a bunch of monye vs the Big name brands.

I mean isn’t the point that the weeds end up dead? You cand overspend if you wish or you can save money. Either way the weeds end up dead. Not a hard choice for me. Don’t listen to anyone who says this stuff doesn’t work.

They probably expected way faster results and were disappointed at the speed. It kills weeds. PERIOD.

Can’t get this in our local stores anymore. I still need to take care of our estate and that means getting rid of vegetation overgrowth. This stuff does the job like no other! Mix 3 ounces to a gallon of water, add a little surfactant (I use Dawn soap) spray it on the leaves of the undesired vegetation.

all dead in a few days. Used it to kill several small trees as well. It’s great stuff! Its 41% glyphosate and it works. Great price too! 2. 5 gallons should last a while but I’ll buy several more before the end of 2021.

They will probably outlaw it like everything else. Buy some today, keep your yard looking great!.

It killed the weeds and some grass. It doesn’t permanently kill weeds. They dry up and die but come right back. It does however kill every bird, squirrel, and rabbit that gets food from your yard. We have not seen this issue with other brands.

Only this one. I don’t feel like it is safe for pets to go in the yard even after this is dry. Seriously dead birds everywhere and we still have weeds. Huge fail!.

I’ve used other weed and grass killer products that gets rid of unwanted grass and weeds but never yet had I found a product that kills down to the root as advertised. Spectracide® Weed & Grass Killer Concentrate2 does as advertised.

I did a spot check in my flower beds to get ready for next spring and wow it did a great job. The unwanted grass and weeds were yellowing after a few hours and brown by the next day! Being that the solution was concentrated and there was an AccuMeasure system with an easy-to-use cap, it took the hassle out of measuring and mixing the concentrate formula; so I was able to get just enough to try it out in a small area.

In my next use I tried it on a larger area and got the same results. I also love that I still have a lot of formula left over even after I treated my driveway, walkways, and sidewalk. I’m overly pleased with this product and have already recommended it to family and friends.

I was provided a bottle of the Spectracide Weed and Grass killer concentrate to try and provide my thoughts. I have a lot of creeping charlie that has taken over my backyard. Literally it exploded from a 1/4 of my back yard to almost the entire yard this summer, from 1 week to the next.

We have had a drought for a while and then had a lot of rain. By the time we were able to get into the backyard, the creeping had crept up and killed almost any and all grass and made it either creeping charlie heave or bare dirt spaces with creeping charlie nearby.

I felt this would be a perfect opportunity to try and provide my thoughts. I cannot attest to grass, and I didn’t have grass yet to kill. But, we put this into the sprayer, did what we needed to make this sprayable and went to town.

Spraying the areas, away from the dog potty zone and waited. It was a nice sunny day, low to mid 80’s and no rain in sight. Waited. Later that day, I felt like it looked like a lot of the charlie had died.

But, thought it might be my imagination. Waited next couple of days, watching. Noticing more and more browning and death to the creeping charlie. Mind you, I had one application at this point, and find that the first past, killed quite a bit of the charlie.

I feel with another couple of passes of the Specracide, I might win this season’s war of the creeping charlie. I liked this, fairly easy to use, appeared to start killing pretty quickly. I would be happy to try more to see I this turf war can be won by us and not the creeping charlie.

I fight a constant battle with my driveway. It’s a nice long stone driveway — however grass always seems to want to grow in it. I buy quite a bit of weed killer to spray in the driveway to keep the grass under control and it gets expensive and the premixed sprayers are not very efficient.

This Weed and Grass Killer Concentrate has helped on numerous fronts. 1) I was able to buy it online. Since it’s concentrate, the container isn’t very large (which is good!). It was shipped in a reasonably small box and was wrapped in a sealed bag inside.

This is convenient, since I didn’t really know what to expect with shipping something like this. 2) It has clear instructions, measuring cap and is easy to use. I got this to mix myself in a larger sprayer — worked like a charm.

3) It’s more cost effective than some of the other pre-mixed + sprayer container options I was trying. Once I filled up the sprayer with the weed and grass killer, I went out and sprayed my lawn more effectively than past use with the other sprayers, finished in less than 1/2 the time and then waited.

I saw clear results of dying grass within a day. Do I recommend? Yes — if you want a grass killer concentrate, then give this one a try.

This is a great product. It works slowly, don’t expect overnight results, but one day you look at your lawn and the weeds just seem to have disappeared. I live in Houston Texas and this is the first year I have used it.

I just reordered a gallon so I will have plenty for next spring, however, at this point, I’m not sure I will need it.

I applied this product on my lawn according to the instructions more than a week ago. Nothing has happened. useless, don’t spend money on this product.

This product did not take care of the grasses I wanted to use it on though it works very well for the grasses it’s designed. Simply my error!

I followed the instructions to the letter. 2 beautiful days before and after application. More weeds pop up and the ones that recieved treatment just grew larger. I believe spectracide is an inferior product for the asking price that this web site will not allow to be shown.

I suggest ortho products replace spectracide. I wish I saved my reception so I can demand a refund. I do have the 2nd. bottle left. What a waist of a bunch of money.

I used this last spring and it did a fabulous job at weed eradication and I had a beautiful green lawn once the Bermuda grass came in. My lawn thickened up the turf well. I used it again yesterday and 29 hours later the weeds are wilted and limp.

It’s too early in the season to evaluate the turf. But I anticipate good results as I received last year. This has been much more cost effective than granular products.

Undecided how to rate, but, it’s been 5 days now since application and not seeing ANY signs of weeds even getting a little bit “limp” or “sick”. Maybe I expect too much too soon, but seems like they should at least not look so healthy after five FULL days.

Maybe I will be surprised and have to edit this review. Obviously did not expect the “feed” part to do anything this soon, but expected the weeds to at least look “not well” !.

I really liked the side holster comfort wand. There was no pumping to mix the ingredients and it is so easy to apply. You can control the spray to desired amount and just squeeze the trigger to coat the leaves of the weeds.

As advertised, there was no damage to my Bermuda lawn. But it only wounded the weeds and did not kill them. I applied it more than once at the recommended times. After reading all the literature, could only fulfill part of the conditions.

It is very humid here and the yards are mostly damp. Our temperatures are well above 100 degrees for much of the day and it is the dead of summer instead of fall or spring. So my weak results could be caused by the wrong conditions.

I do use other Ortho product that have worked quite well. We just moved from a Kentucky bluegrass lawn to a Bermuda lawn and we are just learning.

I am quite satisfied so far. After 3+ years of infestation and pulling and digging to get rid of the sedge I am starting to see results. I mowed 2 days ago, then we had a day of showers (I thought this might help the grass from being damaged), so I sprayed this directly onto my nutsedgey lawn to test/ spot treat the nutsedge.

The sedge is already golden-brown and dying while my bluegrass/fescue is still thriving. No damage even though I sprayed on a warm morning, the sunny high reached 88 degrees, and it is late in the season (early August).

They say it is better to spray in early spring. I hope I don’t have to do another round of treatment like most folks review this product, but I expect I will have to since it is so late in the season and we’ve been infested for years.

If spraying again means a future of no sedgy lawn, I am hooked and it is worth it. Could have been a bit cheaper, come in a larger bottle, or even a trigger that I don’t have to manually spray over and over again (my wrist hurts and I only sprayed a small section 2 feet by 10 feet).

I tried another product which advertises effective in killing nutsedge with results that it appeared to fertilize the nutsedge and other weeds it said it would kill. I tried ORTHO Nutsedge killer and it worked the first time with dying nutsedge within 24 hours! Within a week the active nutsedge was gone.

This hand sprayer bottle is great for outcropping of nutsedge, but not effective for large areas.

I spent several seasons unsuccessfully using Ortho Weed-B-Gon to eradicate Oxalis (Woodsorrel). Ferti-lome Weed-Out Lawn Weed Killer was effective with a single application. Be aware Ferti-lome offers the product in various active ingredient concentration.

I augmented the application with Hi-Yield Spreader Sticker Non-Ionic Surfactant. In addition to Oxalis, I am using Ferti-lome Weed-Out to control other broad leaf weeds. The product boasts control of 200 broad leaf weeds.

Applied as directed, the product is very slow acting but seems to be working well in most areas. No visible effect for about 3 or 4 days on chickweed. About 2 weeks required before significant change is visible.

Most effective on chick weed, less effective on dandelions, dollar weed, and others. Still waiting for effect to be visible on all others after about 2 weeks. Product coverage appears to be less than advertised.

With all that said, it seems to be better than anything I have tried before.

Works great! The concentrate is the better buy and way to go. I mix it with distilled water in the ferti-lome spray bottle. It kills the clover and not the grass!

I am that person who is kind of obsessive about my yard. Weeds, in particular, are my nemesis. My neighbors often seeing me patrolling my beds in a orderly sequence looking for and pulling weeds. Alas, mere weed pulling won’t rid your beds of those pesky weeds.

I have found Spectracide to be a worthy soldier in eliminating weeds from my beds and driveway. What is particularly nice about this concentrate is the measuring system. All the guess work is taken out.

You simply measure into the cap, add to sprayer, and fill with the right amount of water. In my opinion concentrate is the way to go. I spray often because new weeds are always popping up so I use a lot of product.

A concentrate is much more economical than a premixed formula. I use one sprayer for Spectracide Weed and Grass Concentrate and another sprayer for grass friendly weed killer. I have yet to find a weed that this herbicide can’t handle.

Another plus is it is rain proof in 15 minutes and weeds are visibly dying within 3 hours. This is my go to weed killer because it never lets me down.

Use this product for the insipid dollarweed that encroaches on my yard since the neighbors do nothing and it works great. Within a day the dollarweed starts turning yellow. However the new bottle design barely sprays product out.

When trying to use the “Mix” setting, you really need to jam it all the way out and very tightly hold it in place to get ANYTHING out of the bottle. My backyard is over 16000 sq ft, and I sprayed the entire back yard three times on a 5000 sq ft coverage bottle and still had not used all the product in the bottle.

And now I have a very sore thumb. I wished I had saved one of the older product bottles.

Very effective, easy to use, and safe for St. Augustine. I spent just as much time unrolling/rolling the hose than was needed for the application. This is not a fast acting product, but in a few days you will notice the limpness in the weeds, and shortly thereafter, they disappear.

This product actually works and safe for St. Augustine grass as directed. I had outbreak of ground ivy and dollar weed and others. The concentrate is the best value; used in 2 gallon pump sprayer.

I have a small lawn so this 1. 3 gallon has actually lasted through several uses. Definitely will be using this again.

The bio advanced all in one weed and crabgrass killer is awesome! First of all this mixture kills over 200 different weeds as well as crabgrass.

This can be used on various grasses such as bermuda, rye grass, fescue, zoysia and more. The sprayer is super easy to use, just adjust spray nozzle to course spray, hold sprayer end about 12 inches from weed and aim for center.

This can be used any time of the year when weeds are present no need to worry about burning in the summer! This was non staining on surfaces, like my driveway and yard can be mowed 1-2 days after applying.

Once sprayed, I noticed weeds began to wilt within 24 hours and is rain proof within 1 hour- perfect for my southern weather! I have been very happy with this product and love the simplicity of using it and all the weeds it knocks out!.

I purchased it about a month ago. I sprayed the crabgrass and other broad-leaf weeds twice. I killed nothing. l sprayed the same weeds with Trimec Crabgrass Friday, July 29,2022. The crabgrass and broad-leaf weeds are wilting and showing that the Trimec Crabgrass is killing the crabgrass and other weeds.

Trimec contains 2. 13% Quinclorac ( active ingredient to kill crabgrass). Roundup Crabgrass contains only 0. 118% of Quinclorac. Trimec Crabgrass contains 0. 60% of Dicamba dimethylamine salt while Roundup Crabgrass contains only 0.

029%. It appears that Monsanto was more interested in making a cheaper more profitable product rather than a quality product that actually performs as stated on the label. I will take it back to Lowes and try to get my money back.

I had nurtured my lawn all spring with feeding and over-seeding which produced a beautiful thick green lawn in June -July 2021. Small sprouts of clover started to pop up here and there so I purchased the Roundup for lawns ready to use.

Read the application directions carefully and applied as directed to the clover locations. Within one week my lawn was ruined. The clover remained green and healthy while the grass was completely killed.

The bottle label says kills weeds not the grass. In lite of the extreme negative effect on the lawn I felt that affected soils required removal and replacement prior to restoring the vegetation. I contacted SMG Roundup and was repeatedly switched from one representative to another and each time asking the same questions and seeking the same information.

My request of SMG Roundup was for nothing more than to have the impacted soil removed and replaced with virgin topsoil and my lawn restored. Ultimately after a significant amount of time had passed I was handed of to a claims adjuster from a third party contractor whom did not present himself in a very professional manor if you know what I mean.

The adjuster advised I would be contacted with a resolution in short order. That was two weeks ago and no word and no returned phone calls from either SMG -Roundup or the contractor. I caution other consumers with regards to the use of Roundup for lawns ready to use.

This is my second attempt to review this product. My first review was moderated as they put it in their response.

The sprayer itself works the first time, but after that it just won’t allow pressure to be pumped up and becomes very hard to get more than a trickle out. I bought the regular roundup in the same ready to use sprayer and had the same problem.

Cheap and nasty product. When it comes to the actual performance of the poison, I had to spray clovers and regular lawn weeds 3 times over the course of 3 weeks to get them to start turning brown. Other products I’ve used from a competitor brand, have always worked within days without damaging the lawn.

I tried roundup because of the media reviews, but clearly they are all paid to say it’s great.

I had a big problem with dandelions in a flowerbed alongside a path that just got worse every time I weeded it. I didn’t want to kill everything or poison with glyphosate so looked for an alternative.

This works well, needed a couple of doses but has been really effective on the dandelions whilst leaving other things. Hopefully next year I will be able to plant something else there and won’t get the same problem.

I have loads of dandelions everywhere else which I’m happy to keep for the bees and other insects – just need some diversity. Arrived on time and was reasonably priced, so worth buying.

I do not know where all the favorable reviews come from. I read the label completely, applied exactly as directed on partly cloudy day with a temperature of 68-70 degrees. No rain, no watering for 6 days.

Product did nothing. Not a single weed even turned yellow. It was as if I sprayed water on them. I measured each area of my yard with my measuring wheel prior to purchasing so I knew I needed 3 bottles to cover my yard.

After completion I had about 2 oz. of product left so application amount was spot on. And the “Money Back Guarantee” listed on the front of the bottle. Good luck with that! I found nothing about it on Spectracide’s website.

Even using their search returned their Privacy Policy. I’ve had good results with other Spectracide products but this one literally did nothing for me.

It works well on clover and dollar weed. So far, I can’t tell if it works on anything else. Note that this weed killer takes time. Not like northern grass weed killer that shows it working sometimes overnight.

In maybe 4 days you start to see clover turning a lighter shade of green then eventually yellow until gone so give it 2 weeks. You can also re-apply after a couple weeks if necessary.

After almost 30 days, dandelion occurrence has diminished. Appears to work as pre-emergent against dandelion. Works as post emergent against stinging nettle if you have a week of dry weather to follow.

Stinging nettle results will be seen after a week. Hawksbeard is another issue. Has not prevented hawksbeard. Another product I used seemed to be only effective on hawksbeard. Evidently, no product perfect unless you go to cancer causing commercial nuking.

I love it. We had a bunch of trees pushed up & 800’ of ditch dug with the dirt making a levy. The initial spray, all that “very deep hard brush” & grass is still dead. What I go & spray about every 3 weeks is all that underneath that we can’t see growing through that levy of dirt.

The front ditch I’ve only sprayed 2x & it is 100% clear & water running. Those hard wood trash trees, I call gum ball, they grow anywhere a seed lands & the seeds are round looking solid green berry type about the size of “lemon drops”, roundup concentrate doesn’t even turn the leaves yellow & this RM43 kills it!! I agreed to let my mom buy me a thing of concentrate round up cause she swears by it, I put the exact amount of ounces for my 2 gallon sprayer.

One week later, our hard brush & thick weed grass actually grew instead of dying. I tried it once more with 14 oz to 2 gallons. Barely turned hard brush yellow, did kill little grass. I went & purchased our 2nd gallon of RM43 (I would buy the 2 1/2 gallon if it had a pump attachment to pump out the ounces you need cause I’m partially disabled & can not lift, pour & not waste out of that 2 1/2 gallon), made a total of 4 gallons, sprayed all 800’ of ditch, those trash trees that still have berry seeds buried in the ground, poison ivy, poison oak, weeds & thick brush along the back fence we are trying to cut.

Less than a week a later we went back out to the property & everything dead. Went out day before yesterday & still dead, no new things popping up yet. I don’t care what it is, nothing kills 100% to never ever grow back unless you pour full strength peroxide, bleach or some other haz mat chemical that is carried by 18 wheelers.

That will kill deep into the ground for years. Naturally, companies can not make chemicals that strong for general public use. This is just common sense.

I maintain 10 desert acres. The way out of weed takeover by July and I mean farm-like sections of weeds, is to pre emerge yearly! I have to be selective around vegetation and the house directly, but for the furthest areas around my property, I use an atv sprayer.

The first year preemerging, we got surflan southern weed killer, the second year we got TVC. I was worried about the TVC and was looking for something as effective but not as devastating. I saw a video for the RM43 and got it! It seems to have worked great and I like how it kills existing weeds as well! None of the other preemergants did that! I was even still spraying weeds with the leftover mix out of a sprayer.

It left NO Green!! I use Caseron for in and around vegetation and good ol picking them everywhere else every year. Unless I find something as good or better and less expensive, I’ll be buying the RM43 from here on out!.

We have 4 homes spread out over several acres of family property. I keep about 12 acres of the property mowed and cleared. That includes weed eating around each home, several outbuildings, and a very wide, long drainage ditch.

It has become too much for me over the last couple years, so we have using herbicide in place of most of the weed eating. I mixed this product at a rate of 2 quarts in a 25 gallon sprayer. We sprayed a little over 125 gallons of mix over 2 days.

It took about 4 days before we started noticing any effect, but within a week it was obviously working well. Now 2 weeks later the RM43 has killed everywhere we sprayed. As noted in the instructions, it will get into the root system and spread to surrounding plants whether you want it to or not.

Not a big deal to me but it might be to others. Don’t use it in areas you don’t want everything dead. It kills at least twice as much as you intend it to. I think the prices are ridiculous but if it lasts a full year, it will be worth it.

I love pulling weeds by hand. But sometimes the weather keeps me from getting the job done in a timely manner; taking months to get through my front yard grass. So I was looking for a little help. What I love about this product is the high quality hose and trigger.

After it is easily installed, it can be controlled with an open/close switch on the jug. The hose is a nice long length of nearly 3 feet that makes it easy to precisely spray your target. After use, the trigger easily clicks in under the jug handle for convenient storage.

But as for the weed killer, it didn’t work as well as I had hoped, even after my results were better by shaking it well. It did wilt some dandelions and some of my sturdiest, heartiest monster weeds.

But I guess I was just expecting it to work faster than it did. So for now, I’ll just continue to pull my weeds by hand.

seems to do the job it says,definitely wear gloves though as found it leaks when using it,not ideal and haven’t come across this problem before with any other brand. I would have given 5*if it had not been for this.

VERY EFFECTIVE, WEEDS ON LAWN STOOD UP AT FIRST THEN SHRIVELED UP AND SLOWLY DIED OFF. JUST TAKE ALL THE USUAL SAFETY CARE AND APPLY COMMON SENSE AND ALL WILL BE WELL.

Good product, good price. Only minor comment is the trigger is quite hard to press.
