16 Best Solar Cover Reel For Inground Pool (2023 Updated)

Probably would be fine for smaller size pool covers, but really is too lightweight for large size solar covers. I have an 18×33 ft pool with a 1200 mil cover and its not easy to roll or the handle struggles at full weight.

1200 is a mid weight. Its also really a 2 person job to use the reel.

Instructions leave much to be desired, may as well just throw them away and figure it out on your own. Once its together, it works perfect. Overall very good purchase/value for the money.

You must make modifications to this for it to work. As a previous reviewer noted, there is no way that sticky back Velcro strips will hold up to this wear and tear. Mine is less than two weeks old and we will be placing rivets into the straps to hold them.

You get what you pay for, so my expectations were not very high. This product served me well however and is of good quality. Use it to reel in my 19×40 pool heat blanket and it does that with no problem.

Can do it by myself. Moving the reel out of the way is easy. Assembly was pretty easy, the only thing that absolutely needs improved is the way the straps attach to the pole bar. This can be done with the supplied Velcro pads which are to be glued to the pole: this is a joke and doesn’t even hold without a load, let alone if you try to reel in the cover.

Fixed this by drilling holes for self tapping metal screws. Placed the self adhesive pad over the hole, attached the Velcro and took a screw plus washer and tightened it, works perfect.

We have a 32 x 16 foot pool with a spa and taking the cover on and off was a chore for 2 people. I assembled the reel using only one of the aluminum cores. Then I fold the cover into a third – approximately 5-6 feet wide, and slowly roll it into the reel.

It works perfectly for us and because we are very gentle with it I expect it will last a long time. The cover is bulky and not very heavy so when it is rolled up it can be maneuvered and stored easily.

It now takes less than 5 minutes for 2 people to remove or install our pool cover. It is very light weight and as strong as it needs to be to do the job – but be GENTLE with it!.

We have had the pool cover reel for over a year and find it very helpful in removing, storing and replacing our pool cover. It is easy to operate and move about. The only drawback that we have found is that the plastic clamps that hold the pool cover are breaking and we are having difficulty finding replacements.

Straight forward to install (need to drill holes in reel), work effectively and hold up well. After many seasons the straps may become stiff and crack but bulk strap material is easy to buy and cut to size.

Bought a backup, mostly for parts — I had disconnected one strap temporarily and lost track of one plastic nut.

I had difficulty feeding the strap through the slits in device, especially the center slit. I’ve looked for solar cover clasps and this seems to be the only product out there. After installing the straps to the aluminum rod, and the solar cover, I had to make some adjustments to even out all of the straps.

When doing this, the clasp broke in my hand. If I could find a better product, I would purchase it.

These are great. There’s other types of products but these last longer and work the best. I can get 2 full pool seasons out of these, which is as it should be. They take more effort to install, but the dependability is worth every penny.

The product is good poor instructions on how to assemble the straps to pole and I don’t like that I have to put holes in my solar cover so I have another way in mind I hope it works if not then I will put the holes in solar cover but will never buy this reel or any other kind like it that requires putting holes in solar cover.

This is a great pool cover. Not only does it raise the temp of the pool water, it keeps out leaves and debris. Easy to install.

Very solid. Works great. Can uncover the pool in seconds and very easily.

The cover arrived tightly packed in its package. It was so tightly packed, however, that the air bubbles that are supposed to cause the cover to float on the water were crushed to half of the expected size.

The did not regain their volume. This problem causes a few issues. First, the cover remains partially submerged all the time. Second, the cover becomes heavy because of water infiltration into the “air bubble” spaces.

Third, this causes the cover to prematurely delaminate. Yes there is warranty coverage. I have filed several claims, but each replacement comes with similar problems.

I highly recommend this cover for your pool. We likve in Sunny Northern California and have 8 weeks at or over 101F. WE currently have 6 weeks from 99-113F. I cover the pool during the day to reduce evaporation and open it at night to keep the water cool.

I also bought the reel to easily move the cover on and off, DO THIS !! excellent. Only get 1 year’s use and then then start to loose the little bubble caps. Great Bargain when you thin of the fact that I have not added water to the pool in over 5 weeks now!!! thats huge here is drought ridden CALIFORNIA!!!.

This is a well engineered reel. If you’re mechanically inclined it is pretty easy to decipher the instructions. If not they are somewhat confusing. So far it works perfectly.

Reel works fine on lightweight cover. We had to search with difficulty for heavy duty clips at extra expense to be able to attach and wind our cover up. We are not totally happy.

First ever piece that arrived amongst all my pool related order. It was easy to connect the roller poles. But you would need a good idea of how long you’d need. It is not something you can fix to a length whilst you haven’t got the pool.

As we have assembled it without the pool we anticipated how much poles we would need. We actually didn’t use one of the poles (we got the 18ft x 9ft x 4ft bestway pool). As we have a 500micron solar sheet of 20ft x12ft we knew we have to cut it down.

So we ended up mounting the roller on a make shift stand, longer that the width of the pool, so we could spread the solar sheet on top of it. We measured and cut it in this set up. Once we got the size we wanted we just adjusted the length to attach it to the bars of the pool.

And that’s it. It’s easy to roll in and out. Also, as our sheet is quite thick we needed to punch a whole so that the locking bit of the clip would work. But once this is all done, it works well.

We like that we found a reel that fits on our above ground Intex 12x24x52 Rectangular pool. However the clips that come with this product to attach the solar cover to the reel are terrible. We had another one that had pvc bolts to hold clasps to the reel and to the cover.

These flimsy pieces of string with plastc clips that do not stay snapped closed (seemingly from the air bubbles in the solar cover) render the reel useless. My husband threw the directions and packaging away the first day but I do not think there is much choice on how to use these.

For this reason, i would not reccommend product because the cover does not stay attached enough to reel it up evenly and its a big pain. Will try to reconstruct from old reel parts unless INTEX can HELP??????.

Easy to assemble. Seems very sturdy. Large crank makes it easy to use. Large wheels make it easy to move out of the way. Price is excellent for this quality of product.

I liked that the handle sat higher, it’s easier to use. What I didn’t like was that the wind got into that space lifted the cover. It would not stay down

No pole or cover ?Just the plastic cranks for each end which cannot be used without the other parts ? I have been trying to resolve this issue since 7/25/21 and nothing from anyone ? HEY WHAT IS GOING ON 8/6/21 ?.

I returned this item as it was only the reel no roller for cover. Too expensive.

Die gehen einfach nicht zu. Deshalb der Sternabzug. Wir haben jetzt eine andere Konstruktion gewählt.

I bought this to replace my old broken roller. It doesn’t fit my aluminium tube but it is not too bad to trim it to fit. It take a little effort to modify it to use for my underground pool. It is the lowest price replacement and I am satisfy for this purchase.

Whoever designed this product surely didnt have a pool. It misses the mark on every level. I took some abilities for granted and was sadly mistaken. If you need to move your cover, even an inch, find another reel.

It does the job. Very reasonable/ Had some issues with plastic wheel breaking – may have been affected by sunlight. The plastic rollers did develop flat spots and the cover did not roll out as well as it did initially.

Perfect replacement for my pool cover reel. Great price and saved the expense of buying the entire system.

I bought this because of its 5-year warranty. The bubbles on my old one (not this company) deteriorated after a year and filled the pool with blue specks. But the “five year warranty” on this item basically covers seam separation and specifically does NOT cover bubble deterioration.

After two years it’s a pro-rated warranty. I’ve only had it a couple of months and it seems fine but I can’t really comment yet about its durability.

I had to replace my 2-yr old cover – was shedding plastic dots. This new cover is a bit lighter weight than the old one but works fine. Good price – value for what it is designed to do.
