20 Best Slide Scanner For Mac (2023 Updated)

If you’re looking for a basic scanner that will only scan documents, this will do fine, hence the 2 stars instead of 1. However, if that’s all you want to do, there are far cheaper options. If you’re scanning anything other than black and white papers, you’re going to be severely disappointed.

Be prepared for streaking and ghosting all over the place. I have scanned photos and books and magazines and this thing completely falls apart. Streaking and ghosting all over the place. Photos can be color or black and white but it doesn’t matter.

Some things will scan fine and other things, it will have a major problem with. There’s an option to reduce vertical streaks that does absolutely nothing. Be prepared for TONS of them. I tried returning it, figuring I got a bum unit.

I was sent a replacement unit and, unsurprisingly, same issues. These machines are clearly only made for the most basic of scanning. And, if that’s your interest, get a better unit for a lower price.

This ain’t it.

I did extensive research into whether or not to get a printer/scanner combo, or to keep my printer as a stand-alone and get a separate scanner. I am very glad I chose the latter; this is a superb document scanner.

Other brands don’t do automatic OCR. This scanner does the OCR when you scan it, so it doesn’t become a laborious extra step after you’ve scanned the document. It’s very easy to set up the scanner to upload the scans directly to Google Drive, which is one of the primary places where I save my documents.

It has a number of customizable destinations that you can program and tap with a button, like specific settings and destinations for receipts, or other settings one might want for a particular type of document.

The white version is pretty and has a fold-over cover that stores easily into a cabinet when not in use. This is certainly the scanner to get.

This is my first document scanner and it performs very well. If you have lots of documents to digitize this probably your best value workhorse. There may be much more expensive scanners that do a little better but this the best bang for your buck.

It’s footprint is rather small, which is nice, it will scan wirelessly and drop the files in the place you specify. Several improvements that would make it perfect for me: 1) I wish they made this scanner wider to cover when documents are wider than the typical 8.

5 piece of paper. 2) I’ve also had some issues trying to scan papers that are extra long. I wish this was something the scanner did without hassle. 3) Occasionally I’ve needed to scan one side of a pamphlet that had more than one page and because this scanner is always pulling your papers through one at a time, it will jam the machine.

I wish there was a way to get these docs scanned without issues.

Great quality scans and fast processing! Digitizing family photos can be a daunting task and this scanner makes the process so much easier than scanning one photo at a time on a flatbed scanner. My wife and I scanned an entire photo album yesterday and it only took about a half hour to scan over 200 images.

Most of the effort is spent removing the photos from the album and re-inserting them afterwards. Scanning is the easy and fun part of the process. The really fun part is seeing your small photos come to life on a big PC monitor screen.

It would be a simple step to later organize photos into slide shows if so desired for a simple presentation. We scanned at 1200 dpi with auto-correct turned on. The software offers the ability to scan and keep the original photo, then generate a separate photo with the auto-correct applied.

However, in almost every case we preferred the corrected version and turned that feature off. Another great feature is the scanner’s ability to scan the back of the photo whenever writing appears. This speeds up filing the scanned photos if you are organizing later by date.

Once the photos are organized, you can then just delete the backside image unless of course the handwriting is sentimental, and you want to save that as a photo memory as well. The scanner does not remove dust specks or scratches which would be nice feature to have, but the quality of the scans is good enough that in most cases further editing is unnecessary.

Another great feature is the wireless connectivity, so you can place the scanner on a large table or work area and have access to the scanner as part of your “assembly line” workflow. Lastly, this can be used as a document scanner with some additional software from Epson.

That’s probably something we will check into after all of our boxes and albums are scanned.

After some research, I purchased this scanner to tackle a large project to digitize several generations of family photos. In a matter of a few days I’ve scanned the first 3000, and am very pleased with the scanner’s performance.

After pulling photos out of old albums I can scan stacks of up to about 50 photos at a time in a wide variety of sizes, both color and black and white. I am using the option to automatically color correct photos, and it is working great even on old, yellowed, and faded color photos.

Many of the resulting scans in both color and B&W look much better than the originals I was scanning. When there are notes written on the backs of photos, the option to scan the backs also is working well, though I’ve had to set it down to the most sensitive setting to make sure it picks up some fainter handwriting.

It’s been able to take most photo papers and even old newspaper clippings without jamming or issues, and the only things that have been challenging have been some thicker photo postcards which are very stiff.

I will need to use a flat scanner for some of the old large format prints and a separate slide scanner for slides, but this machine is doing the heavy lifting on the printed photos. Overall I’m very pleased with this purchase.

I’ve had it for a day but I love this scanner already. Having a lifetime of photos to scan, I was looking for a photo scanner with a document feeder. At the intermediate setting, the file size is about 4Mb, and takes about 3 seconds per photo, and this afternoon I did about 100 photos in less than 10 minutes.

The Setup allows you to generate an exact copy of the original and/or an enhanced copy. I started with both but eventually changed the setting to automatically accept the enhancements as the images are much sharper and brighter than the original photo.

The image generated does not need cropping or editing, and the clarity is amazing. With a bundle of photos in the feeder, it jammed a few times but this was because of turned edges on the photos or uneven original photo sizes.

Feeding them one at a time resolves this, but even in this mode, having to click ‘continue’ for each photo is still way faster than using a flatbed. I’ve used the Epson GT1500 document scanner (at about $500) for years and it was time to replace it but for an extra $200, this one does everything the GT1500 does so the photo scanning is almost a bonus.

All the reviews I read were correct and I can’t recommend this machine highly enough.

Look, the Kodak Slide N Scan is absolutely easy to use and you can digitize 140 slides in an hour. As to Color & Resolution it can vary from Great to Good. That said, it’s easier to fine tune the digitized slides on your computer.

I highly recommend this item for what it is. The Price is Right and it it’s Extremely Easy to Use. With regards to Resolution & Color that depends on the state of the slides. Are the slides encased in paper or plastic and what is the thickness of the encasing medium? All of these variables affect these two parameters.

I’m sure there are better digitizing devices that are 3-4 x as expensive and very complicated to use. I had over 5000 slides to do. Time is important to me.

I purchased this scanner to copy all of the slides that my parents had taken over the years. It is simple to set up and use and with the preview screen you are able to adjust color and brightness prior to saving to the SD card.

I will be trying it out on negatives to digitally archive them. The two draw backs are the SD card, would like to save it directly to the computer, and the color/brightness adjustments, would like a more sensitive control to fine tune the image.

All and all it is a product I would recommend.

This is my 2nd Slide n Scan – the first got taken out by a lightning strike. They’re real easy to use and for my purpose of getting massive amounts of slide scan, it’s hard to beat for the price. I can process slide pretty quickly now compared to an older scanner I had been using.

Just push them into the holder, push the button and add another slide. the first one pops out the other side. Easy Peasy. It also can scan film strips of color negative or black and white.

Simple and easy to use. Quality is fairly good. It allowed me to convert a lot of family archival slides to digital with very little effort. The machine itself can do much to correct issues with the photos, but that’s okay.

My one wish would be more flexibility with the size of negatives and slides. Slides from the 50’s and 60’s seem to be a different size, not 126 and not 35mm. Unfortunately, many of those slides were cropped by the machine because they were too large.

For 35mm and 126 size films and slides, this is a great little machine. But if you have larger slide media that fits in regular sized slide frames, maybe another scanner would be a better choice. I was able to turn most slides and get a good enough scan.

I was very happy with the results, but just wish it could’ve accommodated those older slides better.

The scanning unit worked exactly as advertised and produced super results. I came home with boxes and boxes of old family slides from decades ago. I used this little scanner to convert every slide. The results were far better than I had expected and I am really happy with the results.

I am even more happy that I could convert all of these old family slides to digital. Well done, Kodak!.

It is a simple tool very easy to use once you get going. I own Nikon and HP scanners and I can get very bogged down in adjusting each photo. This is a tool that says get the negatives into a electronic format, and then use other tools if you want to do adjustments.

It is very fast and easy to use once you get going. I also love it’s stand alone OS. No waiting to Microsoft, Apple, or Google OS’s to screw around with.

Wish I realized that older negatives are larger (sometimes much larger) than 35mm and wont fit into the adapters or even the slot. But operation is easy to figure out and has worked great for my first 500 negatives.

It does what it says it does and does it well. Very simple to use and convenient. No longer have to spend hours converting negatives.

This digital scanner worked great, I scanned hundreds of 35mm slides and the digital prints are high quality. Better than I expected

Great item for the price point. I have several hundred 35mm slides to convert to digital. The adapter for them is a good fit. Push the slides through 1 after the other. Each successive slide lines up the preceding slide in the viewer.

Press the button to copy and push in the next slide. Adapter holds 3 total slides so the 4th slide pushes the first side out the other side. If the slide picture quality is good then its a job of push slide, click, push, click.

There is color and contrast adjustment built in which works well enough for minor adjustments. It would become unneccessarily complicated to add many more exposure adjustments. The display is sharp and the 5″ screen is great.

You can transfer directly from the SD card while its in the unit. switch to USB transfer mode and transfer, delete, etc. Cannot do any other software edit functions from computer to unit. Need to move the SD card to computer for that.

I was looking at over 1000 – 35mm slides that needed to be scanned. After researching the cost of having them done professionally, I took a chance on this scanner and am very pleased The overall quality is more rugged than I anticipated and it is quite compact In size.

The product’s interface is not too slick, but the instructions were very easy to follow. I actually plugged the scanner into a PC monitor via the HDMI output (cable included) which allowed me to ensure the slide was clean and positioned correctly before scanning.

Sometimes it froze and had to be restarted, but images were never lost. Also, you must manually insert the slides into the guide and push them into position. At 22 meg, the images are as sharp as I expected since many of these slides were 40+ years old and been stored in hot climates.

Easy set up. Be sure you have an SD card (not included) with adapter. It took me a little while to remember which buttons did what, but once I got the hang of it, it was super easy to operate. I chose this model because it had the biggest screen so you can really see the image you are working on.

Transfers to my Windows 10 computer are super easy. A great project during the corona virus lock-down to convert all my grandparents’ slides to digital. One caveat, some of their slides were bigger than 35mm so the whole image doesn’t convert.

I was able to work around on most of them by inserting the slide rotated 90 or 180 degrees to get the subject into the converted image.

There are other reviews (not to good) on using the film types (Film gets scratched in the carriers I hear). Good luck. Follow the setup first. If you have a HDMI TV use that over the viewer or use your big screen TV if the HDMI cable is long enough.

I used a 32GB SD memory card, worked fine. I used the #1 adapter (use the #3 if your slide film carrier is the thicker or plastic type). You get to select between 14 and 22 MB scans. They are both 14 MB but the 22 is an upscalled/interpolation image like TV’s use.

My 18 Images = 75 MB. Using the 22 MB option I get a. JPG picture that averages 4. 3 MB at 5728 x 3824 at 72 dpi, sharpness –A bit Soft ???, bit depth is 24, All settings on -Auto-, remember your mileage may vary based on the image.

Follow the instruction on having the shiny side of the film Up, and the Image in the “Viewed” position. Number sequence starts at 000001, Remove the drive images to go back to #1. And orient the direction of the film so you need not have to edit it on the machine.

Insert with the image showing correctly up and L/R correct the first time. Watch for flipped images from the developer, like backwards Text and Steering wheels on the wrong side, Etc. I used the ‘AUTO’ feature in Settings and let it decide.

You may also choose to group like contrasts of the slides to reduce changing that each time. If the colors are still off that can also be modified, once again place those in groups. Get a can of “Dust Off” to blow off the dirt and stuff in the unit and on the slides.

I had over a thousand slides to scan, most people do and use this product to do that. For higher resolution and more adjustments use a Flat Bed Scanner, they are much more taylorable. And make sure you get one that does negatives if your going to do them also.

I only scanned Positives. Turn the power on last and off first to protect the scanner. I had to turn the scanner on then the HDMI set to get it to sync most of the time. I had two old scans come back from the dead, so don’t hurry the transfers but I was using 3 software packages to create my Data.

I am very pleased with the scanner. Ease of use is 4 stars, quality of scan is 4 stars (for the price). I did not expect the quality to be so good considering the price point. I know there are higher resolution scanners with image improvement software, but this scanner did exactly what I was looking for.

I am 3500 slides into a project of about 7500 slides for scanning. My only observation for concern, and it’s not a scanner problem, is you need to frequently monitor the light screen for dust, it is not readily visible on the display if dust is showing up on the scan.

Luckily there is a dust removal wand included with the scanner, but it is operator dependent to check for dust and remove it. I would not hesitate to recommend this to anyone who needs to convert lots of slides, it takes about 15 seconds to get the slide out of the carousel and insert it into the scanner, the capture and saving of the image takes about 5 seconds on high resolution.

Total directory size is about 14GB after 3500 slides.

After seeing hundreds of 4- and 5-star reviews for this product, I was in disbelief after trying it out and thought I might have received a defective item. The visual clarity is terrible and looks very low-res.

Objects in the image can even appear out-of-focus because the loading tray does not apply pressure evenly to the film. The other big concern is the color balance. It appeared fine with the first frame I captured, but right after hitting the capture button, the color suddenly shifted very green.

Each time I hit the capture button, the color balance kept varying more and more, to the point where the color adjustment settings could not make the scans look remotely accurate. The color adjustment settings are so extreme that they are essentially useless.

Finally, dust in the unit is a big problem. This comes with a “cleaning brush,” which actually leaves more dust particles behind. Kodak’s product quality has been suffering for decades, especially with digital, and this product is no different.

I will be returning this tomorrow.

After working through a clunky install of the Silverfast software for Mac OS (no CD drive) this product excels at digitizing 35mm slides. Workflow as follows: 1. Scan into computer using Silverfast software utilizing max res (non-hdr) setting to create a 197MB.

tif file. On my system, scan time and saving (to an external thunderbolt connected drive) takes approximately 3m10s at this setting. 2. Crop and color correct using Adobe RAW. 3. Remove dust and scratches in Photoshop then save as a 3-5MB.

jpg file. My average production time for a full digitization/restoration is approximately 20min per slide. Given I have access to professional photo editing software through Adobe’s CC suite, there is no need for me to use the additional features offered through Silverfast.

I get the results I desire through the above listed workflow and find well exposed/focused slides from the 70’s look like digital images that were captured yesterday. I have been able to recover an enormous amount of data from seriously blown out slides, but the final results don’t quite yield that “captured yesterday” look.

The scanner functions very well. I have scanned over 200 slides now with very good results. However, the SilverFast software package used to control the scanner is worthless as provided. It is a demo version which leaves unsightly watermarks on the scanned image.

You have to purchase a license for $49 to get a working version of the SilverFast software. Fortunately, the actual scanner drivers are downloaded free of charge from Plustek. More fortunately, I already have PhotoShop Elements and it has the ability to import from the scanner.

So, using PhotoShop Elements I can scan 35mm slides or negatives at up to 3200 dpi with ease. Bottom line: If you already have software that will import scans from the unit, this is a great little scanner that works well at a reasonable cost.

If not, you will likely have to purchase the software for an additional $49 or get some other software to control the scanner. I would have given the scanner 4+ if the software was a working version.

If I didn’t already have PhotoShop, I would likely have sent the scanner back as I believe it should be sold in a completely working condition without the additional hidden cost gimmick.

The system comes with two CDs OpticFilm and Silverfast 8. No explanation of what they are. Apparently the first contains the drivers. The second is software for scanning and enhancing images. After installing the first disk, there was a prompt to restart your computer.

Instead, I went ahead and installed the second disk. After turning off my computer I couldn’t find any software to run. I discovered that the Plustek Optic film won’t do anything stand alone; it depends on computer software.

Silverfast just pointed me to some movies; no opportunity to scan a slide. The documentation suggested checking whether the scanner is listed under [Imaging Devices] in [Device Manager]. It was not. No hint of how to get it listed.

Discovered that I really did need to reset the computer. Then the option to use Plustek showed up in Silverlight. That led me to a screen asking for serial number (no not the serial number of Plustek).

Finally got to the point where I could scan a slide. I still don’t know which side of the slide is supposed to be up. I got a digitized image on the screen, but there is no way to save it – no command, no icon.

Turns out you have a dozen choices of what to do with a slide and it won’t save it unless you selected archive. There was no option to save as JPG. I saved as TIFF, but the saved colors were not close to those on the screen.

I tried to save another slide as JP2, but that isn’t even recognized as an image. Turns out that if you don’t select high resolution you can save a JPG. Of the first four slides I tried to scan, I got one digitized.

I’m not looking to do fancy image processing; I just want to get from 35mm to digital. Scanning is slow. No way this is going to work for 10,000 slides. When I came back and tried to run Silverfast a second time, the Plustek option had disappeared.

Silverfast suggest upgrading to the latest version, but when I selected Plustek 8100 it informed me that nothing was available. I’m returning this system.

I had an earlier Fujitsu scanner for 15 years and it finally broken down and needed replacing. I wanted to stick wtih Fujitsu so bought the top consumer model. I’ve been so very impressed. i’m a high-volume scanner for an individual (i’m basically paperless).

It handles large documents (simple or duplix) incredibly well, and the software for Mac is easy and trouble-free. I love this scanner and if I could I would buy it a steak dinner in thanks.

Original ScanSnap was simple and wonderful. Latest software version has destroyed that. Don’t buy it.

Have previously used IX500 – which is great, this one didn’t disappoint – even easier to use

I replaced an ancient HP flatbed photo scanner with the Epson Perfection V600 photo scanner, primarily for genealogy research and photo copying. This scanner is also excellent, better is some ways and worse in one or two, and overall I am quite pleased with it.

It has a couple of quirks that I can live with, especially as the price is not ruinous for an amateur like me. I love that it can scan color and b&w transparencies and slides, up to medium-format film, and that the process is pretty easy.

(I have found ways to scan larger negatives as long as I am willing to crop the sides significantly. ) The included pdf user’s manual gives surprisingly good instructions. I also like that included software does a decent imitation of Adobe PhotoShop Elements – it’s not quite as capable, but generally it’s good enough for my purposes.

I just wish it had a spot remover in addition to general de-noise, and the scratch remover seems to be an automated whole-image function rather than something that lets me select a specific line or area.

Scratch remover also isn’t available on all my scans, despite using identical scan settings, for unknown reasons probably having to do with image size. De-noise works really well for some images and blurs others a little too much – mostly it works well.

Color transparency scans are excellent in detail and color accuracy. Color print scans generally are corrected quite well with one-touch color correction to fix color fading/shift on old prints. B&w transparency scans have good detail but do not have the deep blacks and bright contrasts of original prints from these negatives – the images look fine until you compare them to the originals, so they’re not bad, just lacking punch.

I have to use the software to darken the image significantly to get strong blacks and then increase the contrast by roughly the same amount to restore the whites. Also, the default b&w negative scan setting includes compensation for backlighting, which lightens the image even more, so I turn that off.

I started out using the automated scan function, but it does not scan the top and side 1/4″ of the image, so you can’t line up the photo along the edge of the glass. It also gets confused by photo mounting/framing or other attached components.

Switching to manual Home scanning mode fixed these problems – the user defines the scan area, which CAN go to the edge of the glass. The default scan setting, at least for Home, is for multiple Thumbnail images instead of Normal.

I wasted a lot of time trying to figure out why my photos were being chopped up into multiple images until I read more of the (long) manual and realized I simply needed to click the Normal tab to define a single image.

One quirk for which I have not found a solution is that old sepia/browntone photos often come out with browns that are too dense and sometimes with red and gold tones (disconcerting around eyes/faces), especially when some of the editing corrections are used.

These images look very good if scanned in grayscale, but sometimes I want to keep the brown/beige tones for historical feel. As brownish photos must be scanned in color mode, sometimes discolorations also throw image appearance off, in many of my cases giving a pinkish cast to some areas.

Overall this is a very good scanner. Set-up was easy, and instructions are good. It needs almost no warm-up and can be turned off when not in use, and with LED lighting energy consumption is low. Scans are much faster than with my old HP – fast enough for me, although I’m used to slow scanners.

My attitude is that photo scans need a little more time to pull out the details, so I don’t expect the super speed of an office-grade copier. I recommend this scanner for purposes like mine (don’t know how it would work for a professional photographer, even though there is a Professional scan mode), and I would buy it again.

I’m giving it 4 stars overall for the brown/sepia quirk and the lack of contrast in b&w negative scans, even though I’m giving it 5 stars in the areas of overall quality, value, and ease of use.

I wanted to convert 2,000 35mm slides taken with a SLR camera to digital and needed a scanner to accomplish that. The slides have been stored in Kodak Carousel slide trays, with the trays placed inside their box, so the they are dust free.

I didn’t want to spend a lot on a scanner since I would only need it for this task and have 2 other scanners for everything else (documents) I scan. After reading many reviews, most expressing having poor results, I decided to contact B&H Photo for their expert advise.

After several exchanges of emails with B&H sales support they recommended a Plustek 8100, Plustek 8200 and Epson V600 Photo scanner. Their last email said the V600 would be the most versatile and the Plustek the most expensive.

They said the V600 should produce the results I wanted. Based on their recommendation I ordered the V600. After getting the V600 setup I tested it by scanning a 10×13 printed photo using the default scanner settings and the results were excellent.

Then I scanned 4 slides, at the default settings. The scan time was very fast, like the photo, but the image quality was so poor the TIFF images was unusable. I started changing the various settings, image type, resolution, scanning quality, etc, and found the mage type had to be set at 48-bit color and the resolution had to be increased from the default of 400 dpi.

After several scans at different resolutions I found that 4800 dpi provided the best compromise between image quality, image size and time required to scan. With the resolution set to 6400 dpi it took about 6 minutes to scan 4 slides and the file size was over 260 MB for each image.

At 4800 dpi it took 4 minutes and the files were 150 MB in size. At 3200 dpi it took 3 minutes with the file size 67MB. After importing the images into Lightroom Classic, it requires a lots of adjustments to remove the blurriness/graininess and adjust the colors.

I estimate only 20% of the scanned images will be worth keeping. The holder used to position up to 4 slides on the scanners glass is poorly designed. It utilizes one small plastic detent on one side to orientate and hold it in position, but every time slides are removed and/or inserted into the holder it moves out of position.

Epson no longer provides their “professional” software Digital Ice that is needed to properly scan slides, yet all of their instructions still refer to it. Because they are not updated the instructions it is impossible to get help to see why the quality is so poor and if there is any changes that would improve it.

They now offer a third party software, Silver Fast, which I found to be very confusing to use and useless in improving a scan. Overall I am very disappointed with the V600 and B&H’s advise. I should have bought the Plustek 8200 scanner.

After getting such poor results initially I should have given up on the Epson and sent it back to B&H for credit. Interestingly, searching B&H’s website for a 35mm slide scanner, the Epson V600 does not show up, so I feel the information provided by B&H was not accurate.

I have an old Canon MG7720 All-in-One printer/scanner that I used to scan old photos and the quality is better than the V600, plus it cost a lot less. Bottom line, I do not recommend buying this scanner for 35mm slides.

Save your money and buy an all-in-one or a better quality 35mm slide scanner.

I’m using this scanner specifically for medium format 120 film. So far, it’s been okay. I have had mixed results so far from a sharpness perspective, trying a couple different ways to try to get the negative sharp on the scanner.

I have been going through a lot of different online threads and groups regarding this scanner and the jury is still out for me. The included plastic negative holders don’t seem to keep the film flat, especially when come a bit curled up from the lab after development.

I’ve read people using all sorts of techniques to get sharp images but part of me just doesn’t want to spend more time and money into trying other accessories. I just want it to work consistently. Maybe it’s that my images aren’t 100% in focus.

Just from my anecdotal searching, it seems the majority of opinions I’ve come across state that their images aren’t the sharpest coming out of this scanner. However, some people love their results. It’s really hard to say for me at this point.

I think from a functional perspective it works great – it connected easily to my computer. Epson Scan 2 scans very quickly. For the cost, I am not sure if I can complain too much about it. I also looked into dslr/mirrorless scanning but the cost of that is exponentially higher than this.

I did a very basic test with a homemade contraption that pushed light into a negative, and shot the negative with a mirrorless camera. It seemed that it was a bit sharper – but is it worth the hundreds to thousands more of expenses having to buy another camera (I don’t have a high resolution one that’s recommended), a whole setup, etc.

? I am not sure yet. My personal recommendation is this – seek out various methods for scanning before just jumping into this scanner like I did.

Used this Canon R40 scanner on my Windows computer. The software they offer is easy to use and configure, and it’s very flexible. Didn’t take a lot of hassle to get it up and running which is a plus for some people because there are not so tech savvy people who still just doesn’t get things! I was able to set up a document link to DevonTHINK, and with one touch on the scanner, it scanned images and pipe them directly into my DevonTHINK Inbox.

Images are clear and great quality , and the issues I had with my other scanner feeding multiple pages and jamming (constantly) hasn’t happened yet on the R40. It has multiple settings that you can adjust to twerk your document just how you would like and the speed it scan the documents at you can get loads of paperwork scanned in just a short amount of time It even aligned the page for me itself!So Win Win for me ! I used take so much time Scanning my documents and saving it, printing or emailing it.

Now with this AMAZING scanner I can program the multiple(10) one click buttons options to send my documents to their destination with just a single click. the scanner comes with 10 different Job selection buttons that you can easily setup to fit your needs How can anyone go wrong with this amazing scanner ! I’m so super excited I received it It does scan 8.

5 x 14 paper easily as well as smaller receipts. I even used it to scan pictures to share online and the picture quality was unbelievable ! This is a quality scanner at a great price. If you’re on the fence about it, I’d buy it.

But don’t take my word for It try it out for yourself. This scanner is definitely a game changer for me and my family even my children use it Inside the box is the scanner, power cord, USB cord, tray attachment, and user documentation.

The Canon Image Formula R40 has helped my New Year’s Resolutions come to fruition! This scanner easily scans just about everything imaginable including business cards, plastic cards, post cards, receipts, you name it! The Canon Image Formula R40 brings scanning to a whole new level as you can scan up to 60 sheets into various folders, emails, applications and drives of varying sizes, weight and the documents can even be inserted upside down and even better blank sheets are skipped during the scanning process.

Scanned documents can be saved in a myriad of files such as PDF, JPG, BMP, PNG, PPTX and TIFF. As an added bonus the scanner does single pass double-sided scanning. I have been successful at scanning my documents and storing them in easy to find folders on my computer eliminating a desk and file full of various receipts and documents used in my home.

Tax time will be so much easier this year. My goal has always been to have my home office organized and this scanner does it all so easily. Directions are easy to follow for installation and this scanner well replaced my old scanner.

Every office needs such an efficient easy to use scanner! My only wish is that the scanner was wifi enabled and a bit more compact as it does take a bit of desk space. This scanner is OS, Windows and Mac compatible.

We intended to use this only as a document scanner, but found that it can also be used to send faxes and documents much smoother than our actual scanner/copier/fax machine. As far as scanning documents, the device is quick and relatively quiet (not any louder than a standard all-in-one printer device).

It pulls the documents through at a reasonably good speed. We used the software a bit and it seems easy enough to install and use. It has some nice features like color correcting on receipts that may not show up as dark as needed, etc.

We had a smaller pill cylinder shaped scanner before but found that one too clunky to use for a lot of documents at once. We also did not have much success with our flatbed scanner as it took too long to swap out pages, especially when they were double-sided.

This scanner fixes all those issues. It is larger and bulkier than the small scanner, but less bulky that our all-in-one with the flatbed scanner. If you have the space for it, and have a lot of documents to scan, this works great and is much faster than the other options.

The software makes it super easy to archive and organize documents. It will take time to work through a backlog of documents we want to save, but this seems to be the best tool we could have chosen for the job and we highly recommend it over the more compact versions or the larger all-in-one machines.

I bought the scanner about a week ago. It arrived in two days. I installed the scanner software and the SilverFast 8 software. When I inserted the slide holder into the side port the small swinging flap broke off and fell inside the scanner.

After much shaking I got the small part into a position where I could remove it. I then inserted the calibration slide onto the slide tray and inserted it. I started the SilverFast software and clicked on the calibration icon.

It scanned the slide and a window popped-up showing a registration error. I tried multiple times but could not get past that error. SO, I was unable to calibrate. I decided to test the device on a slide photo.

I inserted a slide, touched the intelliscan button and it stuck so that the bottom was in and the top was out. There was no way to get it unstuck. I called B&H customer service and, as always, they were wonderful.

Within minutes I was able to print a shipping label and a return authorization document. I asked for a replacement and hope the next one will be a working system. The SilverFast 8 software is very poorly designed and lacks an option to save the photos.

That was very disappointing in an era when most software is very user friendly. Another issue is that, in the literature, the SilverFast software is supposed to load a driver into Photoshop. I have an Adobe subscription that is always updated and there was no usable driver or plugin that I could find.

I’ve been an ‘ardent amateur’ photographer for the last 40 years, starting out with film cameras in the 1980s, and have multiple thousands of negatives and slides. Let me say don’t let Silverfast 8 software be your only decision point to not buy this scanner! The scanner has performed flawlessly—I’ve been able to digitalize my old film negatives and slides with great, professional results.

The Silverfast software is not always intuitive and it takes a little bit of work to conquer their learning curve, but once I became familiar with how it functions it was no more difficult than other software I’ve worked with and it produces excellent results.

The other issue is that the scanner ( just as other scanners) can be a bit slow, depending on the settings you choose and the reproduction quality you’re after. I look forward to passing many old images on to our daughter and her family as heirloom memories, so I’m willing to take the extra time to get the best quality possible.

That said, images reproduced at lower dpi are still excellent. Yes, I would definitely buy this scanner again!.

Smooth as silk. The plustek 8200i is hardy and well made. Ease of use from my first scan. The maximum scan resolution @ 7200i gives 66 mega pixel files. Lasersoft software silverfast studio 9 is pretty intuitive with simple controls.

The overall scan quality is far superior to the my current flatbeds and also to two Nikon coolscans which have since been retired. Several tone curves built into silverfast render authentic tonal properties (negafix).

I was stunned by plus x pan and tri x negative to positive conversions. The scanner self calibrates in about two minutes with the provided IT 8 target. Other functions in the easy to find GUI are iSRD ( Equivalent of Digital ICE infra red automatic cleaning of dust and scratches) , AACO (adaptive contrast optimization), Saving files to PSD or RAW in addition to standard Jpegs Or TIFF (16 bit), Unsharp mask, Level and Curve adjustments, Auto exposure.

On the whole, A very satisfying experience.

Pros: Before buying this scanner I read PC Magazines review for scanners for Mac and other user reviews. (The V800 was more than I wanted to spend so I bought the V550. )Used for scanning old (1950’s – 1980’s) transparencies – this achieved outstanding results compared to a cheaper scanner I had bought, and well worth the extra money.

The quality of detail revealed is amazing. Like comparing the view from a filthy dirty window to a clean one! Colour restoration and dust removal works really well. Easy to use once you have got the hang of it and worth spending a bit of time experimenting with settings.

Inspite of the negatives, I think this is a great product and I wish I had bought it before I scanned 150 boxes of slides on the cheap one I initially bought. The difference in quality of the photos is such that I am now going to go back and re scan those boxes.

If you are concerned about budget, don’t waste your money on a cheaper scanner just buy this one, you won’t regret it. Cons: The instructions and help information tabs are quite technical and assume you are a photographic expert, which I am not.

That said it is reasonably easy to work it all out and the basic fully automated setting gives good results without the need to fiddle with other settings. It does take time to complete a scan of 4 negatives in Professional Mode, but not as long as the system will initially show.

Although it doesn’t tell you to do so, I found you do need to click on the screen to instigate the scan of each negative, otherwise it just sits there doing nothing!Some people have commented on the glass scanner bed getting dusty.

I lift the slide holder off each time and wipe the glass screen with a dry E Cloth for glass which removes any stray dust particles. I also give each negative a quick flick with a large clean make up brush to remove any dust.

In doing this I have not had any problems with dust etc.

I purchased the Epson V550 scanner with a little apprehension as a result of reading others experience with the compatibility with Windows 10. I first installed the software and drivers from the CD that accompanied the scanner and then downloaded and installed the updated software from the Epson site before ever attaching the scanner to my Win 10 PC.

I have easily scanned over 1000 slides, photos and negatives, in which I have only experienced the software hanging after walking away for about an hour, during which time the PC also went into standby mode.

The scan quality and color restoration have worked very well. The ICE mode for scratch and dust removal does extend the scan time considerably (at least by 2 – 3 times normal) but without it set, the scan time per picture or slide were acceptable.

The software has multiple modes to select which have different feature capabilities. For slides, the tray holds up to 4 and the features can be set for each slide on a single scan when using preview.

Over all, I have been happy with my purchase. There is no real photo editing software that comes with the V550 that apparently does come with the V600, so I have also installed Paintshop to edit the photos as necessary.

From my experience I would not hesitate to recommend this scanner.

Pros: Once you get used to the settings that come up when you start the programme, it is as easy as using a digital camera. For ease of use I would recommend the professional setting for 35mm film negatives.

You soon find the best settings by attempting a few different things on the same negatives. For copying of prints, aim for a something which will be give a saved JPEG image of around 3mb and around 2mb for 6 by 4inch prints.

I use ifanview to fine tune the resulting jpeg files if required. This machine is very versatile. I aim to use it with 120 film negatives in future. Cons: Maybe be best to have the on/off switch at the front and not the side!.

I have to admit I have at times questioned my decision, but B&H staff guided me towards this rather then the 12000 series Epson. I have also considered an additional dedicated slide scanner, but personally have decided probably don’t need that.

Let me explain the scope of my project, 35 mm B&W, Kodacolor and Ektachrome from the 60’s to 2012 when I became about 95% digital. Also family shots from the 1930’s thru the 80’s. Currently shooting 4×5 b&w but that may start to include color.

Basically I have have 9 cu ft of images to scan. Light box editing showed me many rolls of airshows actually only included 3-5 relevant images (used to shoot 20+ 36 exp at 1 day airshow), so that really cut down on the need (in my opinion) for a dedicated slide scanner.

PROS of the V850: I have used this for 35mmm, b&w and color negatives, and Ektachromes as well as Polaroid slide film and C-41 B&W negatives. Also have used it extensively for scans of “snapshots” and have also started on my 4×5 Kodacolor and b&w.

Scanning negatives at 6400 dpi, snapshot at 300 dpi. 2 sets of mask for each media allow me to maximize workflow, scan one and prep the other. This has taken everything I have thrown at it without disappointment.

Big pro is the cost, about 1/3 of the 12000 series and less then a high end dedicated slide scanner but handles multiple formats. I did not use the include Silverfast as it came on a CD and at the time I did not have CD capability on my 2020 iMac.

Using Vue Scan with great success over multiple media, cataloging in LightRoom Classic (which to me has the advantage of not going to cloud) and storing on external 6TB hard drive which I plan to replace with multiples to ensure backup.

CONS: only issues I have had are related to dust in work environment and keeping carriers clean, using gloves, anti-static brushes and air compressor with airbrush. Speed was initially a concern but I have gotten used to the up to 90 mins for 12 Ektachrome scans using multiple scans and digital cleaning at 6400 dpi.

I am returning to film photography after many years in the digital world but I will take a hybrid approach by shooting film (medium format B&W) and then scanning the negatives. I also have two 4×5 cameras and will begin to use those again too.

Thus my desire to have a good quality scanner to digitize my negatives. The Epson had been recommended to me and after many years I bought this model. I quickly discovered that the hardware is one aspect of this approach to image making.

The other is the scanning software. This is probably as important, if not more important, than the scanner. Here is the caveat. The software, Epson Scan 2, that comes with the machine is barely adequate and crashes on my Mac Mini with the M1 processor frequently.

I tried Vue Scan which I already owned with better results. However, I have now acquired SilverFast 9 AI which is giving me the results I want in a much shorter time and with less tweaking. I have been scanning old 35mm color negatives some of which were in less than excellent condition.

The Epson with SilverFast is giving me the results I want. Its tools for dust and scratch removal are very good. Please note that these tools do not work on B&W negatives because they need an infrared scan which can only work on color film.

Not Epson’s or SilverFast’s fault. Just the nature of the film. If you search You Tube you will find different approaches to scanning color negatives. There is a school of thought that scans the negative without any correction or inversion and uses Photoshop to produce an image.

Then there is the approach of letting the scanning software process the negative and do some minor tweaking in Photoshop or Lightroom. The advantage of this is that the software has profiles for the type of film to be scanned and, in my opinion, produces superior results in less time.

To conclude, like any new piece of hardware or software there is a learning curve here. It took me a few days and three software packages to get where I am today. The results are truly satisfying and I now have digitized some old a cherished images.

Worth the price of admission.

I have been a black and white photographer and printer for decades. I recently decided to take a much cleaner route for making prints. I closed the darkroom and got the Epson scanner for Christmas. I specifically wanted a scanner which could handle my negatives of many sizes.

This one can handle my 35mms, 120’s, and 4×5 sizes. As a novice to anything modern, I contacted my mentor in the black and white world. He had gone digital many years ago. He recommended the Epson Perfection V850.

I set everything up yesterday, with no help. I scanned immediately and found the instructions easy to follow. I am very happy with the results. I have a body of work spanning 10 years of black and white film that I am about to begin scanning for publication and an upcoming show.

I am very pleased with the quality of the images and the dramatic reduction of chemicals required to make a final product.

I collect vintage slides and negative, and still shoot film on occasion. After having a slide badly scratched for the third time by the photo lab I was using I decided to go ahead and purchase a scanner.

I didn’t have the buget for both a flatbed scanner and a dedicated film scanner for small format shots, so after some research I settled on the Epson V700. I recieved it quickly from Adorama (as usual).

The scanner is very easy to set up, although the directions are a little sparse. The software installed fine on Windows 7. Although the included software is very basic, it is easy to use and will be fine for most users.

If you desire something more advanced there are several after-market programs with many more options. After getting everything hooked up and installed it was time to scan some photos. First the pros, my first scan was of a 4X5″ 1940s erea B&W negative.

As one would expect from a negative this big, the quality was amazing, even at a low DPI. I also tried some color 35mm negatives that I had shot on cheap film as a kid. The color and exposure on them was pretty bad.

However the scanner’s color correction option did an admirable job fixing the former problem and the rest can be tuned in post processing. However after a couple more hours of use it became appearent that the scanner has several short-comings (although nothing to bad considering the price).

First off the dust removal program quite frankley sucks. It failed to remove much on any of my slides or negatives, which range from month old perfectly clean shots to filthy, eighty plus year old photos.

While this can be corrected in post processing it’s a rather timely process, and I’d much rather let the scanner do it for me. A much bigger problem is this scanner does a poor job scanning anything under medium format.

While a higher resolution scan will be adequate for internet postings and smaller prints I wouldn’t use them for anything larger than an 8X10 and even that’s pushing it. They also tend to not be as sharp as I’d like (not bad, just not great either).

Overall its a good scanner and is a great value. It is very much worth it for medium and large format negatives and prints, however if most of what you will be scanning is 35mm I recomend you look at a dedicated film scanner (I will be purchasing one as soon as my wallet recovers).

Overall, I’m happy with my purchase and wouldn’t hesitate to recomend the scanner to a potential customer.

Hello Everyone, This is my 4th and probably final scanner. I’ve had the Acer A 320 (great for paper), the Epson 3200 (great for paper and film from 2 1/2 x 2/14 and up, the Nikon 8000 (film up to 2 1/4 x 3 1/4 -fantastic), and now the Epson Perfection V700 (paper and film).

If you’ve already owned a flatbed or film scanner, then it’s quite easy to work with the V700. The software that Epson provides has Grain Reduction, Digital ICE, and unsharp mask. I’ve tested the unit with some 35mm slides and was impressed what a flatbed scanner could do with a slide.

The results were great in terms of no grain, capturing fine detail, and very little dust. I scanned the slides at 4800 DPI and came up with a 1. 12″ x. 84″ size of 62. 5 MB. I then enlarged the image to 7.

875″ x 10. 5″ @ 514 DPI for the same file size of 62. 5 MB. You really don’t need to go so high, as the human eye is satisfied with 300 DPI and can’t resolve any higher! I used my 1270 Epson printer (about 10 years old now and still working great!) to make the print.

You should have (and most of you undoubtedly have) a fast computer (mine’s a slow 2. 0 ghz PC) and Photoshop. Now for some good and bad (but not so bad): 1. The D-Max is 4. 0 (the ability to capture a range of tones from dark to light) compared with the more-expensive V750 (D-Max of 4.

3). However, anyone knowing Photoshop would know that you can scan the same slide at different exposures (to capture light and dark tones) and then blend them altogether in Photoshop (the specific command escapes me for now).

So spending the extra $ 300. 00 really isn’t worth the cost. Also with the V750, you can use oils to fine-tune your film and eliminate scratches (a messy technique). 2. Like most scanners, the parts are “plasticky”.

Be careful to avoid breakage, and use a well-lit room. In this way you won’t break off small pieces of the film holders. 3. Use a dust-cover because the higher the resolution of the scanner, the more it will capture – especially dust or scratches, even if you use an anti-static cloth or brush! 4.

I purchased the Nikon 8000 to transfer my collection of 8000 slides to digital. I’m a teacher who had a large slide collection like anyone else. I started out scanning my family slides and after I did that (about 500 slides that my father had taken in the 1950’s and early 60’s I called it quits.

For teaching purposes I could download images from the Web. Try to buy 1 used – $900-1400 if you can! Why did I mention that? Because each slide takes time to scan. You have to do a preview, and then scan.

You then do some small retouching in Photoshop, save the file and backup, and you have about 8 minutes of work. Multiply that by 100 slides, you get 800 minutes or about 15 hours of work! Are you a good editor? Do have like staying indoors in winter? Once you’ve done some fine-tuning for your slides (Kodachrome, Ektachrome 5500 and 3200 Kelvin, Fujichrome,you can scan 12 slides at a time.

5. It’s hard to find a used V700 on e-Bay. If you buy a scanner, you’ll most likely keep it. In my case, I bought it from someone who needed to copy a set of images, and then resold it. Most of the time the sellers are stores.

Another slightly annoying thing was that Epson raised their price for this scanner by $100. 00 from 2008 to 2009!. T In conclusion, if you’re serious on keeping all those “historic” film or print images to pass on to your sons and daughters or to the next generation, then this is the scanner to have- period!.

I had previously purchased the Epson Perfection V600 but then discovered that I needed a different scanner due to large format negatives (4×5). This device is significantly larger yet uses the same Epson Scan software, though they do include Sliver Fast SE 8 along with Photoshop Elements.

For the price I feel the scanner technology is improved though the film holders seem a bit flimsy given that the V700 retails for over 3 times what the V600 does currently. The larger scanning bed is extremely valuable and it’s good to have a device that can handle all formats.

Overall I’m pleased with it and recommend it to anyone that needs to scan photos or prints.

Until the Silverfast software (& Epson Drivers/Utility) that comes with these Epson Scanners (including future models) is fixed I cannot recommend this line of scanners. Put simply the problem is that if you want to scan anything bigger than a single 35mm slide you will get nothing like the advertised 4800 x 9600 dpi at 16 bits or even at 8 bits per channel.

For say a 6x17cm format you might get 2800dpi. The larger your slide the lower the end resolution. The problem appears to be built into the software perhaps that the Epson driver level. However Silverfast that comes with the scanner is far from perfect.

On my Mac is crashed several times and after long scans that appear to complete properly the scan file is empty. The documentation that Silverst comes with is woeful, so that you need to purchase the online manual, however this manual, annoyingly, does not cover all options and choices in the software.

The software allows much lower dpi (e. g. 2800 dpi) for scans of larger transparencies (e. g. 6x17cm), that means it is not possible to obtain images with anywhere near the advertised 4800/6400/9600dpi of this device.

The raw Epson drivers/utility is also clunky and very restrictive on scanning resolutions. The resolution limitations are even more restrictive. i. e. it cannot even scan a 6×17 transparency. Epson Support was unhelpful.

I was advised by a good friend to not get the 850 and to save money with the 750. So glad I did. This thing is a BEAST!!!!! It makes my film look like FILM. Doesnt give that digital look some scans can do.

I have tons of polaroids that need scanning. The quality and resolution is amazing. I was worried I wouldnt be able to get a scan big enough for the prints I want to do. Nope! Upon maxing our resolution I quickly found that I could get it to a 78 (long end) at 300dpi!!!! Optics are awesome.

Everything is awesome!.

I have film, slides and prints that date back 30 years that I finally decided to digitize. I bought the V-750 based upon all the excellant reviews that I read. The inside glass on the first unit I received was dirty and as per Epson was sealed and could not be cleaned.

I received a new one from Epson in 3 days. Sent out the day I called. I think that I have had service this good before but it has been so long ago and so few and far between that I cannot remember. Epson is a good company to trust.

The scanner was easy to set up. The Silverfast 8 software (I had to jump through a few hoops to download the right free version having just upgraded my Mac to OSX Lion) does everything that I need it to do.

I do most of my editing in Photoshop but this program looks pretty powerful for those that don’t have Photoshop. The image quality is superb for film, slides and amazingly enough; prints. It won’t match the technical quality of an image right out of a digital camera but no scanned slide or negative ever will so expectations need to be realistic.

A reasonable amount of editing will be necessary to pull back the sharpness and tonality but the color accuracy is excellant. I do; however, like the softer, grainier more photographic look of a print made from a scanned slide or negative.

All the reviews I read indicate that the quality of a scan from a dedicated film scanner is better, but not nearly by enough to justify the additional cost. I have had a friend run a few scans for me on his older dedicated film scanner that had a reputation of being one of the best and I can not see any difference unless I pixel peep and the differences never show up on a print.

I think that this is a wonderful instrument and very flexible for all my photographic scanning needs. It definitely represents very high quality and value for the price. I gave this unit a 5 rating. If compared against a $5,000 dedicated film scanner it may drop the rating to a 4.

5. Do the math. All things considered. it’s a solid 5.

Wife sorted through over 500 35mm slides and stored scans in jpg format for storage on computer. Basic ‘corrections’ were made using the device with acceptable results.

The 35mm slide holder would be easier to use if was a little longer. The little I’ve used the product I think it is a good product.

I considered purchasing a Fujitsu ScanSnap for several years. I wish I purchased one earlier! For me, it is totally worth the money. It is compact and quiet and scans incredibly quickly. I love that it is a double-sided scanner.

I have a portable scanner that does one-sided scanning only, which has led me to miss a page or two in long, double-sided documents. I almost didn’t buy this scanner because of some negative reviews about how difficult it is to set up.

It isn’t that difficult, but it does take a little bit of time to download the software and link the scanner to your online accounts, such as Dropbox and Evernote, where you want scans to be sent. It is a great product that would benefit any home office.

Highly recommend.
